Right. That was a couple seconds early, but
that's okay.
Everyone.
Welcome to
week or sorry, day number 3 of the
Hijjah 360 with Almagrib Institute.
Such a pleasure to have you all back
with us,
and
it's as I was mentioning or giving you
guys a heads up, this one is always
such a quick experience.
We are already, after today's session, gonna be
at the halfway point of our class. And
after that, it's going to
be blink and it's over as it always
is. But
it's an honor as always to be able
to come back again and again and again
and to bring our amazing instructors
to inspire you, to motivate you, and to
at least take us out of our our
our day to day routine just for this
hour hour and 15 minutes that we're blessed
with,
during our programming and to just have a
chance to be together, to be reminded, and
to come back into into the world hopefully
a little bit more encouraged, hopefully a little
bit more hopeful,
and a little bit more,
equipped with tools and with with with advice
and with encouragement
to do better and to use our,
skill sets and our mindsets and our,
Yaqeen to to to forward the the cause
that we're we're supporting right now with Palestine
and to make to make ourselves better, Muslims
and community members, and all that great stuff.
Right now we know there's it's a pivotal
time. It's a crazy time. It's been like
that.
I feel like before and by the way,
Ashley, while I'm doing this, please do turn
on your cameras. I just wanna make sure
that you guys are able to do that
and rename yourself here on, Zoom, add your
locations. Shout out to Vilkis and Hadra for
being the first as always racing for the
forefront,
with their cameras on. Hopefully, to see the
rest of you guys with us.
But I I I think before this, it
was it was COVID times, the c word,
and we were all kind of, like, in
in enmeshed in that, and that was taking
over the entire world.
And it felt crazy to that we never
felt like we would get we would get
out of it. And then subhanAllah,
now we have something a lot more impact,
you know, unfortunate and painful and hard for
us to to hear and to experience. I
would do another 10 years of COVID if
it meant that Palestine was safe.
SubhanAllah. But here we are and it's nice
to have this community come back and to
be to have gone through all of that
together and now to be going through this
and hopefully doing as much care, as much
good as we can during this time, for
the people of Palestine.
And yes,
to all of you who have come back,
who are sorry. Someone's asking to talk slowly.
I will do my very best to talk
slowly. It is not in my nature,
In but I'll do my best
for reminding
me. Geneva,
Mona, Mumtaz,
Anjum,
brother of man,
the other Hafsa, Hadra, Samia,
to Sandra, welcome, welcome. And to all of
you, Jazakk Makar. I see some of our
brothers representing on screen as well. Thank you
for for coming through. And just a reminder,
please add your locations next to your name
so that we're able to, shout out and
to benefit from where every one of you
is coming from as well.
I'm very excited for our session today, but
I do wanna quickly shout out before we
start. 1 of the amazing charity sponsors that
people that make,
these programs possible and that do the hard
work on the ground of protecting, of facilitating
aid and food and comfort in whatever capacity
as much as they can and had been
tirelessly working for the past 8 months on
that effort,
has been forgotten women and they've been
a charity that we've been honored to work
with in the past for a lot of
really, really crucial causes, and they have really
critical partners on the ground in Gaza that
actually allow them to get 95% of their
aid actually into the country and distribute that,
which is massive. And I know it's very
difficult for a lot of other organizations to
be able to meet that. So we're excited
to be able to bring them back. And
Insha'Allah, we'll get a reminder from them as
well, but I do highly encourage you guys,
as you have always in the past, to
just click through the link. I'm gonna drop
that here in the chat as well in
a second.
The click through link, this is what you're
gonna see when you open it up,
and help it help us help them,
reach the goal that they have, for this
campaign and smash it out of the park
because there's not this is not a goal
that we want to just meet. We want
to exceed it. As we know, the struggle
to Ibraza alive continues. It's it's every day
is crucial. Every little bit that we can
do is critical.
And obviously during this time, the connection of
that time and that holy space and the
the people that that inhabit the land, is
is a much more stark reminder than it's
than it ever has been. So please do
there's a bunch of giving levels that they
explain exactly what you have the capacity to
to give. Please give as much as you
can generously, Insha'Allah.
But the the link is the LaunchGood link
that we're gonna drop in the chat in
a bit of a second. So please click
on that as soon as you see it,
and please share it with others as well
if you're not able to give or if
you're not able to give as much as
you want. If you wanna come in with
a friend or a family member inshallah to
maximize what you can do, please support them
generously in that. With that said,
as always, we bring in our among our
talent from all corners of the world, and
our instructors are included in that, for the
Hijjah 360. So we are in day number
3. Our topic is gonna be lessons from
the life of Imam, Al Bukhari, and our
instructor is going to be a beloved and
a welcome face returning to
the Hijjah 360 program, the Almaguib 360 programming.
Sheikh Naveed Aziz is with us today,
to give us a bit of a reminder
and then to give us the opportunity to
reflect
afterwards as well. And, of course, we'll have
Zazania Zubayr back with us for the du'a
reflect session.
With that said, let's jump into the Hijjah
360 day number 3. Shef Naveed, I see
that you're on screen. Hold on. I haven't
seen Medina yet, so I don't know what
your background is. There we are.
Sheikh. How are you doing?
How about yourself?
I am well. You know, Sheikh, I usually
have a lot more detail in my email
that I sent to instructors. Like, this is
how we set up and this is what
to do and and to with you, I
just know what to expect. Alhamdulillah. We're gonna
see Madinah.
That's it. Time.
Sorry?
I said that's it. That's how I roll.
That's it. That's the way you roll, and
that's the that's that's what we expect and
what we love, and we look forward to
every time of shift. So I cannot wait
for this instruct this session and this reminder,
and we look forward to being back with
you inshallah at the end. Inshallah.
Sounds good. Thank you so much.
To everyone for joining us today
to speak about one of my favorite personalities,
throughout Islamic history,
Imam al Bukhari.
Today's session is not going to be like
a
biographical
discussion of his life, but rather focusing on
a few incidents in his life that we
can draw deep lessons from.
So we speak about his relationship with his
parents and the impact that it has, then
we speak about one of his teachers and
how that led to his great project, And
then we speak about, the death of Imam
Al Bukhary, which
it does get a little bit intense. So
be forewarned.
So Imam Al Bukhari,
he was born into
a pretty normal family, mother, father, brother, and
that's how his his life was. But from
a very young age, he was tested with
blindness. He was tested with blindness. So he
went completely blind. And, subhanallah, you can imagine
that a young child going completely blind, the
impact that it would have on the parents.
Right? They would be very, very distraught.
And
Imam al Bukhari's mother, Rahimahullah,
you know, especially,
took it very, very hard as as you
can imagine. So much so that it was
recorded that she would pray every single night,
and she would cry her eyes out in
salah, begging and pleading to Allah
that, oh, Allah, please return the eyesight,
of Imam al Bukhari.
And I was just before his he became
an imam, but out of respect, we referred
to him as Imam al Bukhari. And this
continued for a month. A month straight, she
cried every single night till the ground at
her feet was drenched,
and she would just beg and plead with
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in salah.
Until one day, when she went to sleep,
she saw a beautiful dream that Ibrahim Alaihi
Salam, the the great prophet of Allah, Khalilah,
he came to her in this dream and
he gave her the glad tidying
that your son's eyesight has been returned.
And lo and behold, in the morning, when
she wakes up, she goes to test Imam
Abu Khaira Rahimahullah
and his eyesight has completely returned. His eyesight
has completely returned. And she was so grateful
for this.
Now
what impact does this have on the life
of Imam al Bukhari?
Later on in the life of Imam al
Bukhari,
we find out that as he's compiling Sahil
Bukhari, which its final version has
some 7000
odd a hadith in it,
he prayed 2 rakas of
for every hadith that he included, and this
is not including the hadith that he didn't
include. So we don't have an actual final
number of,
of of number of rakas that he prayed.
And you can imagine that's, like, just within
the number of hadith in Sahil Bukhari. That's
over 15,000 rakas
that he prayed. Over 15,000 rakas
that he prayed of.
Where does an individual learn that sort of,
you know, level of? Where does an individual
learn that level of worship? If it was
clearly the impact of his mother after the
tawfiq of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. So this
shows us the importance that, you know, whatever
you want your child to do, you have
to lead by example. You have to lead
by example. And on this point of leading
by example,
we see that this couldn't be
further, you know, exemplified
other than the fact that Imam al Bukhari's
father,
Ismael,
was also a scholar of Hadith himself. And
there's 2 beautiful, you know, portions I'll I'll
I'll share with this.
Imam Ashubki, he narrates,
about the biography of Imam al Bukhari's father.
And he says that, you know, he narrated
a hadith from Imam Malik and Hamad ibnu,
Zayd,
and other scholars, from Iraq. And you can
see this just a a very simple,
you know, biography. But then Imam al Bukhari
he eventually compiles a list of biographies of
narrators of hadith as well in a Tariq
al Kabir. And this was one of the
first books that Imam al Bukhari wrote. So
just for context, the father of Imam al
Bukhari,
he passes away
relatively young when Imam al Bukhari, was just
a young child. And Imam al Bukhari Natarih
al Kabir, you could you know, you we
know you know when someone writes something, you
could sense the the joy, the amazement, the
honor that they feel in in writing something.
You could sense this in the way that
Imam Abu Khareer
wrote about his father,
and he mentions the same points that he
narrated from Imam Malik, narrated from Hammad ibn
Yazid, and he also mentions a very strange
unique fact that he shook hands with Abdullah
ibn Mubarak. Right? As if this was like
a a great virtue,
And then he this is where he mentions
something very profound. He mentions that on his
deathbed,
Ismail mentioned
that of all of the things that I
have done,
one thing that I am confident about
that I can meet Allah
with is that I have not earned a
single dinar or a single dirham from a
dubious source. Let alone it being haram, but
there's no income that I have that is
even slightly doubtful. And this is something that
I can say with confidence, and these were
reported as his, dying words as to what
he's meaning Allah
with. So the Sadaf, the predecessors, they teach
us that when one is on their deathbed,
rather than being in fear at that time,
one should be optimistic of their meeting with
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And the way that
Ismael manifested this is the deed that he
wants to present to Allah that he is
confident of meeting Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala with
that he lived his whole entire life, not
only staying away from haram, but that there's
not even a a dubious source of income
in his life.
Now how does his father impact Imam
And we see it clearly in the fact
that Imam
he became a great scholar of Hadith in
his own right. He was called Imam al
Muhadithin, and he was called Amir al Momineen
Fil Hadith. Right? So we can see that
the apple did not fall far from the
tree, but in fact, you know, the apple
grew into something much, much greater. Right? The
greatest scholar of hadith
that, this Ummah has ever known. Again, whatever
you want your challenge to become, lead by
example. But number 2,
the importance of integrity.
Right? The importance of staying halal, the importance
of of seeing
the impact of a halal, the risk upon
your family. This was something that was greatly
seen
in the life of Imam al Bukhari. And
I think one of the incidents that greatly
manifest this, even though this narration does not
mean the integrity of the scholars of Hadith
requirements for narrations, it's mentioned by a lot
of scholars of Hadith in the life of
Imam, that write about the life of imam
al Bukhari. And that was that one day,
imam al Bukhari was traveling by boat, and
he had a large amount of wealth with
him, approximately 10,000
dinars with him. And one of the passengers
on the ship caught eye of this and
was planning on robbing
Imam al Bukhari, was planning on robbing
Imam al Bukhari.
So Imam al Bukhari
he finds out
about this,
and now he decides that, you know what?
This person is going to rob me, and
they're going to try to,
tarnish my reputation.
And how are they going to do this?
The person is going to falsely claim that
that person has been robbed, and then the
money is going to be found with Imam
al Bukhari. Subhanallah. You know, amazing how Allah
gives insight
to the believers and gives foresight
to the the righteous and the pious. So
now when this man starts shouting and screaming,
I've been robbed. I've been robbed. I've been
robbed. You know, people are frantically looking for
these 10,000 dinars.
And dirhams, where are they going to be
found? And this man knows for a fact
that, you know what, Imam al Bukhari has
it, and this will be his way to
get Imam al Bukhari's money.
But, subhanallah,
lo and behold, they go and search every
single, you know, spot on this boat and
on the ship, and the money is nowhere
to be found.
So the man eventually approaches Imam al Bukhari,
and he says, I knew for a fact
that you had 10,000 dinars and 10,000 dirhams.
Like, I saw you with it. Where did
that money go?
And Imam al Bukhary tells
him, you know, the simple fact that as
a scholar of Hadith, I am nothing without
my integrity. I am nothing without my reputation.
And even though I know rightfully that this
money belongs to me, if these people started
to believe that I stole your wealth, people
would never accept my hadith. People would never
accept my hadith, And my integrity is more
beloved to me, so I threw it, you
know, off the ship. And
this makes you think. What are you willing
to do to protect your integrity? What are
you willing to do to protect your own
credibility? And the Imam al Bukhari
he had to sacrifice,
you know, these 10,000 dinars,
which, you know, in in modern day context
is, like, we're talking about, like, 1,000,000 of
dollars. But this shows us something that these
these these pious predecessors, they weren't normal human
beings.
Right? They were people that deeply loved Allah
I'm gonna go on a very quick tangent,
and then I'll come back to what I
what I wanted to discuss.
You know,
Imam Ahmed
when he was asked about Zuhd, he was
asked about asceticism.
He said that asceticism
is that if your wealth was to go
up, you do not be become happy. And
if your wealth was to go down, you
do not become sad. That is when you
know that you will become a true ascetic.
We know that Imam, Al Bukhari
was from the direct students of Imam Ahmed.
So you can see that where he learns
this from that he was willing to let
go of this money because at the end
of the day he knew that whatever he
did for the sake of Allah, Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala would
return it to him and much, much more.
Would return it to him and much, much
more. So this was the impact of his
father of not only becoming a scholar of
Hadith, but remaining his integrity and keeping his
credibility
and the importance of of being honest.
Now the second lesson I wanted to share
with you was his relationship with one of
his teachers,
And this directly ties into how did Sahil
Bukhari
actually come about? How did Sahil Bukhari actually
come about? And there's 2, important points that
needs to be understood
over here. Number 1, with regards to the
statement that
made. And just for context, I want everyone
to understand
that just like we know of
Ishaqab
was
a man of that caliber, but not only
had he excelled in hadith, he excelled in
and excelled in a variety of different subjects.
And had it not been for his students,
you know, dying off early, it is put
very possible that we could have had another
mad hub under the name of Ishaq al
Rawawi, Ishaq ibn Rawawi.
So now, Imam al Bukhary
is studying with, him. And one day in
passing,
Isaac and Rahway is just speaking about the
problems of his time. And the problem of
his time was people were fabricating a hadith,
and people were unable to verify what was
authentic from what was not authentic. And people
were just narrating as they pleased. And you
can imagine
this is before, like, WhatsApp and emails. Like,
a lot of you may be young,
but there was a time where you used
to get these emails that said, you know,
if you don't forward this email, you're going
to to die or you're going to face
misfortune. And then people would frantically forward those
emails. And now we see it on WhatsApp
as well. All these forwards that we get
that if you don't, you know, share this
forward, some of the x, y, and zed
is going to happen to you. So people
are, like, frantically
sharing these things on WhatsApp. And at that
time, the very fact that people are narrating
a hadith, that's what was happening. Right? They
were
the he felt very afraid for his time
that people are narrating a hadith without any
form of verification.
So he says in passing, and this is
the the point I I want to highlight.
He says in passing
that I wish
one of my students
would compile, or he says, I wish someone
would compile all of the authentic hadith and
put them together.
And that was it. That was all Imam
al Bukhari needed
to be inspired
that you know what? This is what I'm
going to dedicate my life to. This is
going to be
my, you know,
contribution to the ummah. I'm going to try
my utmost best to compile a book
that has the has only authentic hadith in
it. And, subhanAllah, how many books of hadith
have been written? Literally,
you know, 100 of 1,000, if not millions
have been written, yet Allah
gave Imam Al Bukari
Sahih acceptance like no other. Number 1, due
to the intention behind it. Number 2, due,
due to the credibility of the individual
that compiled it. And number 3,
this is the the, you know, the the
the barakah of of listening to your teacher.
The barakah
of of listening to your teacher. And this
teaches us a very valuable point
that what do we do
to continue the legacy of our teachers.
This is something that we we don't think
of enough.
You know, the the the scholars of the
past that they used to say that if
a man teaches me, one hadith,
I would be his slave for a life.
I would be his slave for a lifetime.
This was the
the honor and commitment they had to their
teachers
that they would,
dedicate themselves and and honor the teachers and
and help them in any way. And people
often think, you know what? It's about showering
your your teacher
with gifts and praise.
That's not it. The greatest gift that you
can give your teacher
is the fact that you share your teacher's
knowledge.
There is no greater gift than that. You
become your teacher's
and I cannot emphasize this enough, my dear
brothers and sisters. If you leave with nothing
from this lecture under other than this very
fact
that
take your Islamic education seriously,
And if you ever want to pay your
teacher back,
show him kind show him or her kindness
in this life. By all means, give them
all of the gifts, pay them, you know,
treat them as well as you can, but
know for a fact that the greatest gift
that you can ever give your teacher
is the fact that you share their knowledge.
There's nothing greater than that. So honor your
teacher by sharing their knowledge. And I think
this will be a beautiful thing to show
up on the day of judgment
that your teacher sees this immense amount of
reward. And they're like, Allahu Akbar, where did
this reward come from? And Allah
shares the glad tiding that it was your
student so and so that shared your knowledge,
and, you know, this is the that you
have received
from it.
The second point related to Sahil Bukhari
is that Imam Bukhari
he actually had a dream.
And in that dream, he saw the prophet
and there were,
flies that were trying to come close to
the prophet
and
Imam Al Bukari
he had this fan
that he was waving the the,
flies away that were trying to approach the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. So with this
dream, he goes
to and he asks him, what is the
interpretation of this dream?
And
says that you will do something great
to defend the sunnah of the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam. And this shows us that one
of the responsibilities
of the teacher
is to inspire the students with greatness,
Inspire the students with greatness as to what
they can achieve. And,
he planted the seed. Oh, I wish someone
would compile these, authentic narrations.
And then when Imam Abuqqari
he comes with this dream,
is Sagam Rauhi tells him that you will
do something great to defend the sunnah of
the prophet
So Imam al Bukhari from a a young
age, he's he's he's developing this,
you know,
confidence
that even my teachers believe in me that
I can do something great. And sometimes, you
know, you you you just see that there
are certain people that you know they're destined
to be great. And Imam Abu Khad
was one of them. Now
this is where we get to the last
portion
of today's discussion, which is the death of
Imam Al Bukhari.
And,
you know, it's
a very heart wrenching story. A very, very
heart wrenching story.
So whatever what what eventually ends up happening
is that from a young age, Imam al
Bukhari has shown a level of intelligence, a
level of understanding,
a level of depth in hadith that has
never seen before
him, and Allah knows best even after him.
And something that happens is that one of
the teachers that he has is Yahya Azhulhi.
Yahya Azhulhi.
Yahya Azhulhi
also has a son
named Muhammad.
Also
has a son named Muhammad. So his name
is Muhammad ibn Yahi
And I want you to remember this name
because it's going to be repeated
quite frequently.
So Imam al Bukhari
comes to study with Yahya Adduhali and Mohammed
is there. And Yahya Adduhali, the father,
he's so, you know, mesmerized
by Imam Abu Ghali, young man, intelligent. You
can see the note on his face. He's
pious. He is
as sharp as anyone he's ever seen. His
depth of understanding is is paramount for his
age,
and the father is just overly consumed.
He's like, you know what? If I'm going
to leave a salakat jaria,
it's not his words, my words, forget my
son, Imam Abu Khali is going to be
my salakat jaria. So he ends up preferring
Imam Abu Khali
over his son, Ends up spending more time
with him, nurturing on the whole nurturing him
more, mentoring him more. And then Muhammad ibn
Naw Yahya Az Zohali,
d, d u d h u h l
I, because I saw someone type it in
the text,
feels neglected.
He feels really, really neglected. Now what's really
amazing
I wouldn't say this was the inspiration of
Muhammad but
it's very possible that it was. But eventually,
Muhammad ibn Yahya Abdulhali ends up becoming a
great scholar of hadith in his own right.
So Imam al Bukhari was from Bukhara. Muhammad
ibn Yahya Abdulhali
was from Nisapur.
So now some time goes by, Yahya Abdulhali
passes away. Imam al Bukhali comes to Nisapur,
and he receives this amazing, amazing welcome. Like,
some of the books of Hadith mentioned that
people were lining up to meet Imam al
Bukhari
the equivalent of 10 to 15 kilometers.
Like, that's how long the lineup was to
receive,
Imam al Bukhari.
Now Mohammed ibn Naw Yahya, as great as
he was, he was no Imam al Bukhari.
There were certain things that Imam al Bukhari
knew that he could only,
attain
through Imam al Bukhari.
So he,
one day attended a janazah,
where Imam al Bukhari was, and he was
actually asking, Imam Al Bukhari questions about hadith
narrators and so on and so forth, and
Imam Al Bukhari was answering him.
Now over time, what ends up happening as
Imam al Bukhari
starts teaching in Nisapur,
all of the crowds are going to study
with Imam al Bukhari.
The halakat of Muhammad and some of the
other
scholars of hadith
are completely depleted.
Completely depleted. Very, very few
attendees.
Now this is where jealousy
kicks in. And
this is such a beautiful principle in in
hadith that when you study
the criticism of hadith narrators, one of the
principles that you will learn
is That a criticism
of of one contemporary for another
is just passed on and is not accepted
because it is understood that contemporaries will be
jealous of one another. Contemporaries will be jealous
of one another, and shaitan actually incites jealousy.
SubhanAllah. You would think that scholars
would be protected from this. But the the
the reality is as even sheikh Nafaym Allah,
mentions
is the fact that some of the most
jealous people
are the are the people of knowledge. That
shaitan manipulates them into being jealous.
So now,
Imam,
Muhammad he's
he's a righteous man. He's not an evil
man. And I don't want anyone to think
that he was an evil man, but he
was human at the end of the day.
He knows that he can't lie about Imam
al Bukhari. He knows that he can't slander
Imam al Bukhari. There's no way to bring
his reputation back. But one of the things
you need to understand is that
from the time of Imam Ahmed, you have
the,
Khalqul Quran, the the the trial of the
creation of the Quran. And you should read
it into this and look at the the
resilience of Imam Muhammad that
the Khilafa at that time was heavily inspired
by
by the Mu'tazali movement, and they believed that
the Quran was created.
Whereas,
they believe that the Quran is a speech
of Allah
and is not created.
So Muhammad
he plans this plan
that someone would ask Imam al Bukhari a
very, very technical question
that unless
answered meticulously
knowing what the intention of the person is,
it can be misconstrued.
So this person comes to Imam al Bukhari
and says,
is our recitation
of the Quran
created?
So now as we know, human voice is
created, but the speech of
Allah is not created. So now when the
Quran is being recited
and the person says, is the recitation of
the Quran being recited without specifying, are you
referring to the Quran, or are you speaking
referring to the voice?
And Imam Al Bukhar
says that our voices
are
created.
The recitation
is created,
but not the Quran. This was enough. People
you know? Again, you have thousands of people
attending. One person is asking a question. There
is no microphone.
People wanted to hear what they wanted to
hear. And eventually,
this goes back to Muhammad ibn Yahya al
Zohli,
that Imam al Bukhari has said,
our recitation of the Quran is created.
While factually true,
he has completely misconstrued
it and has now, you know, fallen into
this,
this trap
and he starts spreading this news that Imam
al Bukhari is heretic. And,
there could be no bigger, you know, tarnish
on your reputation than being a heretic. And
this is a major trial at this time
right after the time of Imam Ahmed that
Imam al Bukhari believes that the Quran is
created.
So
slowly but surely, this news starts spreading,
and people start abandoning Imam al Bukhari. And
Imam al Bukhari is eventually kicked out of
Nasapur.
Imam al Bukhari, he goes to Bukhara, and
he starts narrating hadith there.
Muhammad
sends letters to these people saying that do
not sit with Imam al Bukhari
because he believes that the Quran
is created and becomes a massive trial in
his life. So much so that all of
the students
end up leaving Imam al Bukhari
with the exception of one student.
Who is that one student? Someone that we
all know. Imam Muslim Ibn Hajjaj,
the compiler of the 2nd greatest
Sahih. And he has this amazing confrontation
with Muhammad
that he had collected a hadith from Muhammad
and he sends them back to Muhammad
on a camel saying that if this is
the the likes of yourself, I'm in no
need of your hadith. He sends all of
his hadith back.
But look at the integrity of Imam al
Bukhari.
Imam al Bukhari
had spent his whole life collecting hadith, and
there was one hadith that he could only
find
through Muhammad
And he wanted to, you know, honor the
sunnah of the prophet
So he honors
the the sunnah of the prophet by still
narrating this one hadith from Muhammad
but he puts his instead.
So you don't find Muhammad
but you find Abu Abdullah,
something.
And that was the integrity that Imam Abu
Khare
had.
Now I want you to think about
the impact that this has on an individual,
that you've dedicated your whole entire life
to compiling the sunnah of the prophet
and teaching it to the people.
And now wherever you go,
no one wants to learn from you.
No one wants to study with you. No
one wants to hear from you
the impact that it has.
Like, you have this purpose of creation that
you feel that you were created for, and
now all of a sudden, you can't even
fulfill it anymore. And it's not anything that
you've done wrong, but you've just been falsely
accused.
And I think what's important to highlight over
here are are 2 very important points.
Number
1 is that understand
that trials are real. Understand that
great catastrophes and calamities
are inevitable in life. Sometimes they happen to
those around you. Sometimes they happen to you
directly,
but you have to stay the course. The
most tested of people are the prophets and
those that follow their way. And that is
why you will not see a great imam
except that they've been tested and tried. And
then number 2 is the importance of loyalty.
My dear brothers and sisters, be loyal.
Be loyal to your teachers. Be loyal to
your family. But most importantly, be loyal to
the truth.
Be loyal
to
the truth.
And that's what we see from Imam Muslim
that
even till the time that Imam al Bukhari
died, Imam Muslim stuck by his side because
he knew that Imam al Bukhari
was the truth.
Now let's get to the month of Ramadan.
In the month of Ramadan in 256,
every single night. So Imam al Bukhari, he
he had a scribe by the name of
Muhammad ibn Abi Hatim,
and he would accompany Imam al Bukhari and
would write whatever Imam al Bukhari would want
him to write.
He says that every single night in the
Ramadan, Imam al Bukhari
he would pray.
He
would
say That, oh, Allah,
as vast as this earth is,
it has become congested on me.
It has become constrained on me. It has
become tight on me.
Take me back to you. I can't handle
it anymore.
And, subhanAllah,
he spends the whole entire month of Ramadan
making this du'a to Allah
And on the very last night
of Ramadan, the night of Eid,
that is when he passes away.
And people came to visit him the next
day, and they found him that he had
passed away on his, prayer area.
So if he died in salah or not,
but he died in that area. And on
the day of Eid, after
that
is
when the janazah of Imam al Bukhari was
prayed.
And, you
know, trials are consuming.
Fitanas are very consuming.
And,
Imam al Dhabhi
he narrates that for 100 of years,
people came to seek forgiveness from Imam al
Bukhari.
They would go to his grave, and they
would say, we were wrong. You know, please
forgive us.
Our ancestors were wrong. Our forefathers were wrong.
Please forgive us. Because eventually, the truth came
out. Imam al Bukhari
he actually wrote a whole entire book called
the creation
of the actions of the slaves of Allah
to defend his position, which was actually the
correct position. As people read this, they realized,
you know, whatever Muhammad
had mentioned was completely wrong, was completely in
factual.
And then, Imam
also mentions
that for centuries, you know, there was a
a beautiful fragrance
that used to come out,
from the
grave of Imam al Bukhari
So this is just a a small glimpse
into the love of the life of Imam
al Bukhari.
To summarize and to recap, the importance of
parents' pies, piety
and righteousness, whatever they want to see in
their children,
they should,
lead by example. Number 2 is to honor
your teachers by fulfilling their wishes and their
commands, and the greatest gift that you can
give your teachers is to spread the knowledge
that they share with you. And then last
but not least, life is going to be
filled with trials.
Embrace them. Understand that they're part of life.
The greatest of people have faced
tremendous trials.
Turn to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala always,
creates a way out.
The truth will always be known and can
never be hidden. We saw this in the
situation
the situation with Mariam
and we see this with Imam Al Bukhari
And then last but not least is the
importance of loyalty.
Be loyal to your friends, be loyal to
your family, but most importantly, be loyal to
the truth
even if it means making difficult decisions, even
if it means taking difficult actions.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will honor you for
your loyalty and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala knows
best. And Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala shower Imam
al Bukhari, Imam Muslim, and all of the
Imams of Hadith,
with forgiveness and mercy. Even Muhammad
You know, he gets painted as an evil
guy, but he wasn't evil. He was just
human that ended up making a mistake and
get it get it got consumed
by his jealousy, which again happens to everyone.
So may Allah
forgive him as well and have mercy upon
us and forgive us as well and make
us of those that are freed from the
hellfire on day of Arafah and decreed to
be from the people of inhabit of the
inhabitants of Jannah,
and allow us to honor the legacy of
the great scholars of Hadith that existed before
us.
I hand it over to you.
You always have us diving deep even with
limited time and this session is such a
great example of that. I think that's the
the creek that that's the crux of what
we're trying to do with Duhaja 360 this
year is to to look back into our
past as an and the, as we're we're
at a pivotal time right now to then
think about the pivotal moments in our past
and what we should have done right then
and how we can implement them now. So
for for being there with us.
We don't I know, for the last few
sessions, we haven't been able to squeeze in
a lot of questions.
So
this session is a little different in that
we have a quick reminder as well from
our amazing friends at forgotten women. And then
sheikh Naveed will have you back for a
few minutes to squeeze in as many questions
as we can about this story that we
don't think is is as well known,
as well within within the community. So inshallah,
we look forward to that. You guys save
your questions. We'll reach Sheikh Naved right back,
in a few moments and start typing them
out so that you have them ready and
send them to me privately so that I
can make sure that we have them in
order and that we're mindful of of the
time as well.
With that said,
as we have with Ramadan 360 and with
all of our programs, we always have the
honor of partnering with, you know, sincere partners
who, are have high integrity and who represent
the values that we have in our organization
and who do some of the critical work,
as I've mentioned, on the ground. And some
of you saw a few days earlier actually,
was it 2 days earlier that, we started
off with Hijjah 360 with with myself in
London. And there's so many amazing folks,
of Almagribs, in the community that that's in
London, but I made time to just meet
with one person.
And that is the sister who you're about
to to inshallah, hear from today from forgotten
woman because you when you know good people,
you know good people and you you you
prioritize,
the best of the best. So inshallah, I
look forward to having, you guys benefit from
her reminder inshallah now, and I'll be back
in a few minutes for the remaining q
and a and, of course, for other our
our reflection section. So sister Sadia, give it
take it away, inshallah. I'll pass it to
you.
And, as always, lovely to see your beautiful
face, And many familiar face faces and names
in the participants list as well.
It really does feel like it's been a
while since we last spoke to them. It
was actually just a few days ago.
We've been blessed to see each other once
again, albeit virtually.
But for giving me a few moments of
your time to interrupt this amazing session,
a very beneficial session,
to talk about something that will also be
equally beneficial in a way to benefit ourselves,
not only in this site, but in the
akhirah as well.
Of course, you know that forgotten women are
fundraising. I think the link is already in
the group chat, so you're already aware. I
don't need to make a big introduction as
to what we're fundraising for. It is indeed,
of course, for Gaza.
But I know that after now we went
to the 9th month now, I know after
9 months
of continuously,
consecutively back to back fundraising for Gaza,
I myself even can feel quite, like, exhausted
by being asked and to keep on asking
and subhanAllah I can only imagine that people
who are being asked to give are also
feeling the same way. But I feel like
this is why it has become the greatest
test of our humanity. SubhanAllah.
This period, this last 9 months has truly
been one of the greatest tests of our
collective humanity.
What we have seen
shows us
who in the world their hearts are still
truly alive
and who in the world, honestly,
must not have a shred of humanity left.
That the people who cheer this on, the
people who facilitate this, who are funding this,
those people,
the only thing I can understand of this
is that they must have literally nothing but
like, blackened, lifeless, lump of coal for a
heart. That's all I can think of. And
everyone else who's watching and is responding and
who is still crying, the question is do
we still shed tears for our brothers and
sisters 9 months on when we have been
bombarded with so much horror? Do we still
feel that pain?
It's a huge, huge,
question of our time, subhanAllah. Like, how long
will we keep feeling their their pain? And
how long will we keep responding and being
with them? Because what haven't we seen? We
have seen hospital massacres,
the school massacres, the UN schools, the refugee
camps, the flower massacre,
safe zones, the corridors that were lined up
and said, this is gonna be a safe
zone. You can make your way from north
to south. That's also been, a scene for
massacre. Now it seems like the word massacre
is happening, like, literally every day, several times
a day. It's actually really, really scary how
often this is happening.
And, Swamana,
this is something that we keep seeing, and
our hearts need to keep on bleeding
with our brothers and sisters, subhanAllah, because this
is not normal. This is not normal at
all. And, Allah, please keep our hearts soft.
Please keep our hearts united with our brothers
and sisters. And please keep our hearts amongst
those
continue to be responsive. Say 'Amen' please. Allah,
keep make us responsive. Please do not turn
us like those who turn away, who look
away, who stay silent, who don't respond anymore
because we've done enough apparently.
These our brothers and sisters have seen
the greatest of,
horrors, the worst of humanity for the last
9 months. It is our
responsibility to continuously show up and meet that
tide, push it back and show them the
best of humanity inshallah.
Now right now, the forgotten women are on
the ground, and they are providing food,
water, hygiene kits, dinghy tickets, and inshallah, they're
also delivering qurbani as well. So there's multiple
things. They've even got a medical clinic in
Rafa, which
is very much needed because of the situation
with the hospitals. So there's a plethora of
ways that you can give. Now to give
the food, water, hygiene kit, and dignity kit
all in one for 1 sister's family
is a £100.
And the great thing about this is, if
you ever seen these aid deliveries that that
happen,
typically, it's a truck that comes and they're
throwing things off the truck. People are jumping
onto the truck, and it's typically,
you know, men, elderly and young, teenagers, whatever.
However, what is a sister supposed to do
in that situation? How is she supposed to
climb on and try to fight against these
brothers and join into that melee? It's very,
very difficult, and it's very, very undignified.
The the beauty of this package is that
it gets delivered right into her hand in
her tents, panallahu, so she doesn't have to
fight for her food. And especially because so
many of these women want to become widows.
So many of these women are elderly, who
can't even begin to physically try to compete
with the brothers. They also won't be forgotten
either. This is a way to ensure that
your sadaqah, insha'Allah, goes directly into their hands.
Your zakah can go into their hands as
well, because it's zakah eligible. But it's a
way to ensure that these are not forgotten
women. These women who for the last 9
months, subhanAllah,
have not been able to go through their
monthly period without
the sanitary products that they need. And so
they're using tent scraps or they're wading out
into the seat and are hoping that the
dishwasher washes and cleans them cleanses themselves. Like,
what dignity do they have? This is our
responsibility to provide them with that dignity, to
give them that food, to give them that
clean clean, safe drinking water. I went to
Gaza in 2012.
And when I was there and I walked
through Al Shifa and through the dialysis ward,
I kid you not, the dialysis ward was
not filled with elderly people whose kidneys had
obviously over processed and and and worked to
their max and and,
got to the point where they it it
just over overused.
Not it was 6, 7, 8 year old
children because that's how saline the water is.
It was children whose kidneys were shot. It
was their livers that needed to be coaxed
and to be subhanAllah. It was horrific to
see. And that was in 2012.
But we know for the last 9 months
that the water levels in the clean water,
safe drinking water in Gaza has been diminished
even more so, subhanAllah.
So what then is the state of the
people there? They desperately need this clean safe
drinking water. They need this food.
1 in 3 people in Gaza is going
without food at the moment. So this is
so urgent. And the UN have been raising
the alarm. In March, they were raising the
alarm. They're raising the alarm again now. It's
in all the headlines that if we don't
do something, you're going to be looking at
catastrophic
hunger and starvation levels where 200 people a
day will be dying of starvation. Because we're
coming into the summer months, water and food
is critical.
So what you do today is going to
save lives. It is actually going to save
it. It's not just food. It's not just
water. It's not just a hygiene kit. It's
not just a dignity kit. It is life
saving. And if you can do this, you're
gonna ensure that the women in Gaza, our
sisters in Gaza, our children in Gaza are
not forgotten inshallah.
Please give as much as you can. The
link is there. There are many different ways
that you can give. You can give the
100, you can give more. What I would
say is even if you've been called to
give again and again and again, this is
the month of sacrifice. This is the days
of sacrifice. The greater your sacrifice is, the
more your reward will be. And ultimately our
faith is not something that we just feel.
It is something that you have to participate
in. So if you want to be truly
mustn't participate
and do what you can and strive and
go as far as you can and show
them the best that you can. Because each
and every time you respond, you are being
honoured. Wallahi, you are being honored. The more
I think about this, the more I believe
that the people who are not responding, Allah
doesn't want their them to be rewarded. He
is literally pushing them away and turning their
hearts away because he doesn't wanna honor them.
If he is giving you the chance to
take part and you take that, you are
honoring yourself. You are being honored by Allah.
You are taking the opportunity. So keep running
to those opportunities insha Allah. Especially in these
days where we know that the reward is
huge. It's amazing. An amazing opportunity for you
to support your brothers and sisters and still
provide your response to Allah. Allah, 9 months
on, I was still there with my brothers
and sisters. And insha'Allah,
because this is not going to go away
anytime soon, 10 years, 20 years, 30 years
from now, you Allah, I will still be
present. If I'm still present 9 months on,
inshallah,
with your help and your support and with
your tawfi, you Allah, I will still be
there with my brothers and sisters when they
need me 10, 20 years on, inshallah.
We've dropped that link in the chat. We'll
keep dropping that.
And, of course, as we always do, we
we aim to exceed our goals always because
this is not something that is going to
any pockets. It's going to going towards make
more aid and more helping facilitate. And I
don't know if it was yourself, Sadia, or
someone had mentioned this
a while ago. Someone like, I think a
non Muslim was asking that why is it
that it seems like the emaciated bodies that
we're seeing coming out of Gaza, the the
images that we've seen in textbooks in the
past of famine is it's usually children. It's,
like, very thin, like, bones and whatever. It's
always children. And someone had asked a non
Muslim asked,
like, why is are the adults not giving
the food to the children? Are kids not
getting the food? And the response was that
it's because kids don't have stores of fat.
Like, they can't last this long in these
high conditions.
Adults are we're we're fully developed. We've got
the stores of fat. We've got a fully,
you know, built body, and we can handle,
you know, hunger and pain and dehydration, all
that kind of kids have tiny little bodies.
Very, very quickly, they start to lose sorry.
Go ahead. Sorry. I mean, you're mentioning that,
but
the reality is there have been so many
children who have been born into this conflict.
There's not even a conflict, it's a trick
walk.
They've been born into this and they have
left the departed of this world knowing nothing
but hunger
Their bodies have literally, their immune systems collapsed,
their organs have shut down, their bodies have
started to consume themselves
to the point that even if you were
to give that child food at that point,
it would be deadly for
them. Now
imagine
what they endured and what their parents endured.
And these are 6, 7, 8 month old
babies. They don't deserve that. SubhanAllah. They don't
deserve that. And their mothers are too weak
to feed them.
So like I said, this food box, this
aid box, this is it's not just food
and it's not just water. It's not what
we have here, this bottle of water. It
isn't. It is life saving for our brothers
and sisters and they need it desperately.
I keep thinking about how many children have
perished so far from starvation and I think
about the the agonising pain that they've gone
through.
And
as an Ummah, we can't allow this to
happen.
We're an Ummah where a woman's honour was
being dispersed and a whole army went out
after
her to to to to fight for her
honour. And we're letting children, our children, They're
not their children. They're our children. We're letting
them go through that. So please, I beg
that anyone who's watching, if you have the
means even if you don't have the means,
do the best that you can. Speak to
people. We have been given this beautiful gift
of a voice just to speak to people
and encourage them to give and share the
the news. That's all we all are. We're
all messengers as well
to share the news and get people to
push, push, push, and help our brothers and
sisters.
Beautiful. And you've used your gift of voice
very well. Jazakam alikha for this reminder. Sadia,
I think we need it, and I think
we need to it just say to be
a regular
part of our routine and to be brought
it's sometimes out of our our our our
bubbles and and brought. I know we're seeing
images. I know we're seeing all of it.
It's almost like you're just scrolling, you're scrolling,
you're scrolling, and you just go into the
tunnel.
And sometimes hearing a human connection and reminding
you what that means and how you can
help and you can make a difference. There's
things that are out of our control that
we are just you we're doing our other,
you know, using other means to be able
to make an impact. But this is an
impact that we have control over. And I
know there's so many organizations that are doing
it. Support as many as you can, but
I really like what forgotten woman has done
and all of other other conflicts as well
is maintain dignity of women and children and
people who are in the most need. So
we appreciate having you back. I know it's
never in in in the greatest of circumstances,
but
for for us bringing you know, coming together
as a community and for you reminding us,
and may Allah make it heavy on your
skills as well.
We'll see if something An opportunity to use
as always and never replaces.
Once again, the link is there. It's launchka.com
forward slash almagreb dashfw24.
If you guys can't memorize them, that's okay.
It's in the description on YouTube. It's here
on in the chat. If you, again, don't
have the means to support, by spreading the
word with others, put it on your WhatsApp
chats, put it on your Telegram group chats.
I'd at this point, nobody minds spamming and
asking and whatnot, whatever capacity you have, whatever
ability that you have, may Allah accept it,
and may Allah inspire others through it.
With that said, I know we did promise,
and I'm sorry. Naveen has been waiting patiently,
and Assad, I know, has as well. And
I saw some questions come through from many
of you. So let's bring Sheikhaibid back for,
the final q and a for our Ramadan,
Bohija 3 60 portion number 1, and then
we'll jump into our the eye reflection session
in just a second. Sheikh, welcome back. Assalamu
alaikum.
Alright, Sheikh. So I think this is a
a topic that's very new to a lot
of people because I can't keep up with
how many different kinds of questions and whatnot.
Some things some people are just asking, first
of all, can you please spell out the
key names that you mentioned so they can
Google the rest of their questions afterwards? So
I I the guy that the thing is
I don't even think these names are Googleable.
Like, you have
to know. You have to you have to
be able to, like, know Arabic and look
it up in the resources.
So for those that can read Arabic, look
up the life of Imam al Bukhari in
by Imam al Zahabi. That's where you'll find
all the stories that I mentioned and all
the names that I've mentioned. In the English
language, the only thing that I'm familiar with
is Dar es Salaam has published,
a book called the life of Imam al
Bukhari,
by sheikh Saladin Abdul Mojood. It was translated
by Faisal Shafiq, and you can buy it
from.
Those are the only two things that I
can recommend. But in terms of finding something
online, I don't think anything will be available
online. Yep. K. Jazak Malakar shift. That so
actually in the session, I was trying to
find it. So that's that's good to know.
I wasn't I didn't misspell anything.
Okay. So the next question is about spirituality
such as seeing dreams or having premonitions. How
much can we trust these experiences?
So I I think it's very important to
look at 2 things. Number 1 is the
righteousness of the individual.
Then if an individual has
stayed away from sins and they're dedicating their
life to Ibadah, then Allah
will send dreams their way. Now this is
not the only condition for dreams to be
interpretable.
Number 2 is that if you see keep
seeing the same dream over and over again
regularly,
then this is a sign from Allah
that you're meant to have,
this dream interpreted.
Other than that, usually, dreams that just come
once and leave are not dreams that are
meant to be interpreted, but they're just hadith
and nafs, that's your mind talking to you
based upon something that you were thinking about,
something that you read, something that you saw,
and not everything is interpretable.
So I would say look at those 2
things. Number 1, your level of righteousness, and
then number 2, is it something that's happening
frequently? And Allah knows best.
The next question I have is, I heard
a hadith the other day that we should
never wish for death. How do we reconcile
that with the dua that Imam Bukhari made
during Ramadan?
Excellent. So Imam Bukhari
actually has a chapter heading in Sahil Bukhari
called, let none of you wish for death.
And if you must do so, then he
narrates the dua from the prophet
that, oh, Allah, keep me alive as long
as life is good for me. And if
death is better for me, then take, it
away from me. But what happened in the
life of Imam al Bukhari, again, we want
to humanize our scholars
and to show that they were just human.
Right? So Imam al Bukhari
never killed himself. He didn't, you know, die
by suicide. He was asking Allah that, oh
Allah, I'm suffering. You know, I can't survive
like this anymore. So take me back to
you. And Allah
decreed that it was
to happen at that time. So this was,
you know, Imam al Bukhari in his most
human
form when he made that dua to Allah
And again, his is found in his Sahih
Bukhari that you can look up, and Allah
knows best.
I wanna be mindful we hit the 50
minute mark, so I wanna make sure that
Usadeh gets a chance to share with us,
are there are reflection inshallah for today? Thank
you so much for this amazing session. We
look forward to inshallah having you back online
for another 360 or one of the other
programs inshallah very soon. Bernadette take care.
That
was sheikh Naveed Aziz from lessons,
from the like of, and it was amazing
session. If you joined a little bit later,
please make sure that you, catch up the
recordings. And for the millions of questions I'm
getting about the recordings, it's in your portal
under the recordings tab. If you scroll up
a little bit on desktop, it's on the
top left hand side, and it's uploaded within
24 hours. And it's available on YouTube typically
as well. YouTube, sometimes there's there there is
a risk that may be taken down in
the future, which is why we tell you
always to register for this seminar experience under
almagrib.orgforward/bestdays,
which everyone on Zoom, you guys already are,
so don't worry about anything. With that said,
I wanna make sure that we have a
chance to do our reflection session. One thing
the last thing I will point out, again,
the link we've shared multiple times, and I'll
keep sharing it. Just as a reminder, someone
may not have had a chance to pull
up their card. They may be not in
front of a a device. They weren't in
the chat, so I wanna make sure you
guys get a chance to see it. But
one thing I've I've realized that just stuck
in my head is that they have been
using aid as a weapon. They've been weaponizing
aid a lot going into Gaza. And the
food these aid trucks that are going in
are often attacked and are often,
you know, used as ways to to to
basically harm and kill, like, these young men
and and,
you know, young elderly, whatever men that are
coming to try to get aid, or they're
trying to bring, you know, tanks or whatever
through them. So this system that forgotten woman
has, getting aid directly to the to the
person that is in most need is one
of the safest and maybe the only safe
way to get aid to the people in
Gaza. So when you're considering, like, who should
I support? How do I support? One is
it's really important to have folks who have
really good strong connections on the ground that
can actually get the aid into,
the country. And the second is to make
sure the aid is safely distributed,
to those who are in most need. So
make sure you remember that, and please support
as much as you can. And I know
they are gonna be trying to get Karbani
into into Palestine.
If they're not able to do so, then
they'll distribute it in areas like Afghanistan and
others of most need. But please do make
sure that you make them a priority and
give generously and give again and again again.
And with that said, I wanna pass it
over to
to jump into Quran reflect sorry, the I
reflect for day number 3 of the Hijjah
360.
Everyone.
So listening to Imam Bukhari,
or listening about Imam Bukhari,
I was thinking about duaas related to
your guests.
What do you think
Dua's related to what is Imam Bukhari known
for? What is his field? What is his
What is
the
exactly seeking knowledge?
Right? Because this is this is the gift
that he left for us.
This is something Ilim is something that Imam
Bukhari dedicated his life for,
right, he started
very young.
You know, he began learning hadith while he
was still a very young boy,
and his entire youth,
the his
the rest of his life essentially went into
what learning
and preserving knowledge
in such a beautiful way that we still
benefit from what he left for us. SubhanAllah.
I mean, when you hear the word Bukhari,
right,
when you hear that a hadith is reported
in Bukhari, you know that you don't have
to worry about its authenticity at all. Right?
SubhanAllah.
So Imam Bukhari in his Sahih, actually, he,
in his in his famous book of Hadith,
he begins with a chapter dedicated to,
you know, intention, Iman,
sorry,
revelation, iman, and then.
And he begins this chapter with,
the the status or the importance,
the virtue of ril.
And
he he brings 2 verses over there. The
first verse he brings is the ayah that
talks about how Allah
raises the status of the people who have
been given knowledge.
And the second ayah that he brings to
show the virtue, the importance of knowledge,
is a dua from the Quran,
which is
where Allah
instructs his messenger
that
that say, oh, my Lord, increase me in
knowledge.
Because Allah
did not tell his messenger
to pray for increase in the number of
years he would live in this world,
for increase in children, for increase in wealth,
for increase in anything
other than knowledge.
Right?
Oh, Lord, increase me in knowledge.
And this shows us how important knowledge is,
compared to the other things in in our
lives.
Now in the Quran, we see that Allah
Azzawajal.
Right? He is Al-'alim.
Allah
tells us that he is Al-'alim,
the one who is
completely knowledgeable
of everything.
And the first thing that Allah
created was what? It was the pen.
And the first revelation that he gave to
the Prophet
also begins with what? Iqra recite,
right? Recite in the name of your Lord
and eventually within the verses
the one who taught through the pen.
The one who taught the human being what
he does not know.
So this shows us that the source of
ilm, the source of knowledge is who? It
is Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And this is
why we ask Allah that rabbi
zidniilma.
Oh, Allah, increase me in knowledge, meaning teach
me.
And in the Quran, Allah
tells us that when you are alimukumullah,
Allah is the one who teaches you.
Right? Allah taught Adam
the names of different things.
Allah
is the one who,
who taught the Quran. And
Allah sent his messengers
for the same reason,
in order to impart knowledge.
Right? The prophet
was sent as wasiraja
munira, as a radiant lamp,
meaning someone who would impart knowledge,
right? Bring people out of darkness into light
and the light is what? It's the light
of awareness,
the light of knowledge.
So what exactly is ileum?
Let's talk a little bit about it. Ileum
is to know something
as it is.
Okay. It is to know something as it
is,
but it is to know something
firmly.
Okay. 1 is that you read about something,
you know, randomly, you hear about something,
you, you know, you watch a video and
you, you know, get to know about you
become familiar
with certain concepts.
That's not knowledge.
Knowledge is when you study something,
when you learn something,
right, when you take an exam,
when you write about it, when you answer
questions about it. Right? Because what what does
that process do? That process ensures
that you have learned something as it is,
right, accurately,
and it also ensures that you have firmly
grasped it.
Right? Now it's going to stay with you.
So this is what 'ilm is. Now 'ilm
is of different kinds. Right? There is 'ilm
that is nafir, that is beneficial,
meaning such knowledge that benefits you in worldly
terms or or religious terms. Like, for example,
you learn how to
do your citations properly when when writing an
essay. Right? This is what? This is something
that is of benefit to you. You learn
for example, how to pray salah. Right? This
is something that's going to benefit you. So
this is the the type
Learning those things is actually harmful for a
person. Like, for example, if a person learns
magic, right, how to do magic.
This is something that is harmful for a
person in both worldly and religious terms.
Right? And then there is also another type
of knowledge, which is neither beneficial
nor is it harmful.
And, basically, this is just a waste of
time.
Right? And
and, essentially, it is harmful because
it's not really
it's not really adding to, you know, your
your you know, it's it's not really adding
any value to your life. Right? It's not
really leading you to some kind of benefit.
So it's a it's a burden for
you. So what we wanna aim for is
knowledge that is beneficial.
Both religious knowledge that is beneficial
and also worldly knowledge that is beneficial.
And this means that there can actually be
religious knowledge with a person that is not
beneficial to them. SubhanAllah.
How is it not beneficial to them? Because
they're not acting on it. They're not practicing
it. They're not living by it.
It's not softening them. It's actually making them
an arrogant person. And this is what happens
to some people that as they increase in
their knowledge,
they become arrogant and harsh with other people
or they go further and further away from
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Right. They just wanna
go, you know, towards those fringe opinions.
Right? Just to be able to,
you know, satisfy their desires. SubhanAllah.
And it's not really something that is bringing
them closer to Allah.
So,
this is why in hadith, we learned that
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
he wouldn't just pray for knowledge. He would
ask Allah
for ilman
nafiran,
for knowledge that is beneficial.
So how is it that we learn, seek
knowledge that is beneficial? Well, we we use
whatever means Allah
has provided to us,
which which means that we go to people
of knowledge. Right?
Because
the people of knowledge are the heirs of
the prophets.
Okay. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala did not just
send books to guide humanity.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala sent those books to
who? To messengers, to prophets. Right? Who would
teach people their religion.
So you don't just gain knowledge by reading
a book.
Okay? You gain knowledge,
real knowledge. How?
By sitting at the feet of a teacher,
And this is important
because knowledge is not just something that you
you learn in your head.
Real beneficial knowledge is supposed to transform you
and you can only be transformed once your
ego is broken.
Okay. Once you are humbled.
And this happens when you sit at the
feet of your teachers,
when you, your ego is broken. You see
Musa Alaihi Salam, when he
went on his journey of knowledge and he
was with Khidr.
Right? What did Khidr tell him? Do not
ask me any questions.
Right? And this was something very difficult for
Musa, alayhis salam, to do. But what do
we see in Musa, alayhis salam? That he
is he he that whenever
Khidr corrects him, Musa alayhis salam,
he he accepts that.
SubhanAllah.
So you see that humility
in in Musa alayhis salam. So the thing
is that you, you gain knowledge
by going to people of knowledge, by spending
time with them, by learning from them.
And this is what will help transform you.
And of course, you have to ask Allah
to make this journey easy for you, to
facilitate it for you no matter where you
are,
no matter
what what what what circumstances you're in.
And and also to to make the the
journey of learning easy for you in the
sense that whatever you're studying,
Allah
makes it easy for you to grasp that,
to understand that.
So this is why, We
ask Allah
that, oh, our Lord, increase us in knowledge.'
Now
one thing I wanna point out is that
when Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala tells his messenger
that say, oh my Lord, increase me in
knowledge,
what knowledge is Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala referring
to specifically?
He is referring to the knowledge of the
Quran.
Because in the verse, what is mentioned is
that, you know, the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam, he would become very anxious when when
Jibreel would deliver the revelation to him. Right?
So he would begin reciting very quickly
and he would begin to recite as Jibril
was reciting to him.
So he was told that don't don't do
that until
the recitation has been has been has been
completed to you. Meaning, when Jabril finishes the
recitation, then you start reading,
not while he is reciting.
And if you're worried that you will forget,
if you're worried that you won't grasp, then
ask Allah.
So which knowledge is this? It is the
it is the knowledge of the Quran.
So when you ask Allah
for increase in knowledge, don't just think about,
you know, big books. Right?
You know, great sciences and so on and
so forth. No. Think about the Quran.
Think about the Quran.
Because the Quran
is the best of all the knowledge that
is out there. Right? It is it is
the source.
It is the source.
So, you know, like, Ibn Qayyim said that
how
how troubling it is and how shocking it
is and how and and what a big
loss it is that a person spends their
entire life gaining knowledge,
but they depart
this world
without having
understood the truths of the Quran.
And it is truly a sorry, sorry state
that a person spends their
time mastering
different fields of knowledge,
different sciences,
but they leave this world without having learned
the Quran.
So the most important knowledge for you and
I to learn, to increase in, to improve
in, is the knowledge of the book of
Allah.
So
And of course, when you when when you're
studying, when you're learning, you experience a lot
of hardships. Right? Sometimes you especially, you know,
you get bored.
You you don't feel like, you know, just
sitting and reading or or listening and taking
notes. It can get
a heavy task.
Right? It it can turn into something that
is very heavy and burdensome on the nafs.
So then we go to the Dua of
Musa alayhis salam. And what was the dua
of Musa, alayhis salam?
Rab Bishrahi Sadri
wayas Sirli Amri.
Right? Rab Bishrahi Sadri. Oh, my lord. Expand
my chest for me.
And make my task easy for me. What
does it mean by expand my chest for
me?
It can mean a number of things. Right?
But one interpretation is
that when when the chest is expanded,
what that means is that a person increases
in their capacity.
In their capacity to do what? In their
capacity
to bear hardship.
Okay?
And this is essential.
This is very, very important to be able
to get anywhere.
Why does it happen that people
start something good, but then very quickly they
quit
or they're not able to make it to
the end
because they're not able to put up with
with the challenges.
They're not able to deal with with with
the difficulties.
Right?
So at the beginning, of course, everyone is
excited.
But then
slowly, you know, the challenges come in, the
the difficulties come in. So so what do
you need? You need that inner capacity
to increase,
to be able to bear the hardships.
Right? Musa alayhis salam,
when he, when he made this dua, Rupish
Rahi Sadri, he knew who he was going
to be dealing with. Right? He knew that
he would have to listen to the verbal
attacks of Iran,
his lies,
his insults.
And if Musa alayhis salaam was not big
at heart, what would happen? He would get
offended. He would get annoyed and say, you
know what? I'm not dealing with your abuse
anymore. I I quit. I I'm I'm I'm
leaving.
Right? So Musa, alaihis salam,
he he he asked Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
Now when you're studying, when you're gaining knowledge,
especially from, you know, a a teacher,
what happens? Sometimes, you know, they say things
that can be very hurtful.
Right? When they correct you or you write
an exam and you and when you get
the results, you're like, wow, I've never performed
so poorly. Right? And you're like, maybe this
is not the thing for me. Maybe I'm
just humiliating myself over here. No.
Oh, my Lord, Expand my chest for me
so that I am able
to bear
the hardships of learning.
Right?
And then you ask
Allah for ease,
that, yes, this is tough. This is very
difficult. So, oh, Allah, make it easy for
me.
And then because Musa
had to convey,
Alright. Now there's another Dua in the Quran
in which we learn about, again, Musa alayhi
wasalam. Okay. Where he says, arudu billahi and
akuna minal jahilin.
That I seek refuge with Allah, lest I
be of those who are ignorant.
And this shows us that jahal, which is
the opposite of 'ilm,
ignorance is something that we should ask Allah
to protect us from.
Ignorance
is is not bliss.
Okay?
Any,
the ignorance of the truth is not bliss.
Okay? Ignorance of, okay, what your what what
a huge mess your kids are making at
home when you're out, maybe that ignorance is
bliss. Right?
But
ignorance of the truth is not bliss.
So,
oh, Allah, I seek refuge with you, lest
I be of those who are ignorant. Don't
leave me ignorant of,
you know, of of what the wuheed is.
Don't leave me ignorant of,
of of how to pray
in in a way that is pleasing to
you.
Right? How to,
carry myself and how to observe my akhlaq
in a way that is pleasing to you.
So we ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for
increase in 'ilm, especially beneficial knowledge, and we
ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to make the
journey of knowledge
all types of ignorance. And ignorance is not
just,
you know, not knowing something. Ignorance is also
in one's behavior.
Right? Where through a person's behavior, their actions,
their choices,
their their their they're they're showing any their
their actions show that they don't know any
better.
Right? So they're behaving in a way that
is foolish.
So it's not just about knowing something cognitively.
It's about being able to transform your your
behavior as well.
Right? So this is why we ask Allah's
parent Tara for beneficial knowledge.
Alright. Let's hear from you. Any reflections?
Just gonna expand the chat quickly so that
I can see.
You guys are welcome to raise your hand
on Zoom through the raise hand icon at
the bottom of your screen. Just a reminder,
as we always like to remind,
is just to try to keep your your
your reflections as reflections and avoid questions. We'll
have a night tomorrow with for questions inshallah.
So I hand go up and go down.
So hopefully I didn't scare scare someone away.
But tomorrow at 4 PM EST with
night so so you guys can save your
questions for that. And I see 2 hands
right now. Saddle, who who do you wanna
go first? Go ahead. Binyami.
Okay. Binyami. Go ahead.
I wanna just, something like it really, really,
really is a little off topic, but it's
pertaining to the same thing that the system
was saying in life as far as
us losing
focus or whatever the case may be, and
the first thing that came to my mind
was the month of Ramadan. You know, like,
as she said, you know, in the beginning
it starts off
very, very, very successful, 1st couple of days,
and then as time goes on, you may
see brothers and sisters start to slip far
as not fasting maybe or getting impatient,
and then, like, one day
they may say, oh, well, you know, I'm
gonna make it up or whatever the case
may be, but then the one day turns
into 2 days, then 2 days turns into
3 days, and then that before you know
it, you're just behind by, like, 10 to
15 days, you know what I mean, or
whatever the case may be. So, like, that
really inverted in on what she was saying.
Like, that's the first thing that came to
mind. Nothing significant, but it was just like
food for thought.
Mhmm.
For sharing. Yeah. And and and this is
not just, you know, with with learning sacred
knowledge or or Ramadan, but it it this
is a pattern that
actually, you know,
is it it becomes clear in in many
areas of a person's life.
So anywhere that you begin to struggle,
right, where that excitement where that energy where
that,
you know, that that strength begins to wear
it to to, you know, to to slow
down. That is where you must turn to
Allah and ask Allah to
expand your chest.
Right?
You know, sometimes you're dealing with with your
siblings even, your parents even, your children, like
your friends, your relatives, your grandparents, maybe. At
the beginning, you're like, you know, I'm gonna
have a lot of sub in this conversation.
I'm not gonna lose my cool.
And then what happens? They say something that
really bothers you, and then there you lose
your cool.
So,
oh, my lord, expand my chest for me
so that I have
the capacity to bear
hardships, that I don't quit
quickly.
Alright. Next person, Afifa.
Go ahead.
It's.
And, Shaili, you should be able to unmute.
Having any trouble, let us know, inshallah, in
the chat, and you can share your reflection
in the chat as well. I just wanna
shout out, like, we have a lot of,
like, OGs, people whose names and faces we
recognize, but it's
everyone who's new. Like, you guys are very,
very, very welcome,
to this beautiful community. I know we you
there's there's names that you might hear shout
out a lot. You can have your Hadrads
from Toronto and your Raghads and your Bilqis,
who are racing to the forefront, but it's
really cool to see new voices and new
names who are joining us at.
Alright.
Just a few things I wanna mention before
we close off then.
Somebody has mentioned in the chat,
in one of the earlier comments that there
are so many benefits of seeking Islamic knowledge.
But the most motivating one has to be
how we can move closer to Allah. Right?
And that really is the ultimate goal of
of seeking knowledge.
You know, one of the scholars said that
the that the
that the there's 2
joys.
Alright.
2, joys that are in this world that
will also be in Jannah.
Okay?
And these two joys are what the joy
of
Iman and the joy of Irlm.
Any of these two experiences,
okay, you have in the world,
and you will also get to have them
in Jannah.
Any,
any if you think about it, drinking water,
alright, eating great food, amazing food, that that's
great. You you have you have an amazing
experience.
But, of course,
drinking
water in Jannah is gonna be so much
better. It's going to be far, far better.
But the sweetness of iman that you feel
in your heart, where your heart is swelling
with love for Allah and, you know, your
your tears are just flowing down your eyes
and you your your heart is, like, you
know, brimming
with with Iman. That that moment, that that
that experience you had is so beautiful.
That is something you will also get to
experience in Jannah.
And another
joy of this of Jannah, which you also
get to experience in the world is
of 'ilm. Right? Knowing
who Allah is,
knowing
how beautiful the character of the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam was,
Knowing how perfect the the sharia, the law,
the aham, the the decrees
of Allah are.
Right? So this knowledge,
you know, knowing it, this this is a
joy of of the mind,
Alright? Which is actually from the joys of
paradise.
SubhanAllah.
And and this is what Ulm does, that
it draws you closer
to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. This is what
it is actually supposed to do.
But if it is,
taking a person further away from Allah,
then this is where,
it shows that that knowledge is not beneficial
to a person.
Alright.
So what do we do? I I saw
one more hand go up. Okay. It's a
brother, and it's hard to get brothers to
reflect.
So I think we'll do one more reflection.
Everyone just bear with us, inshallah. We'll try
to to wrap up in the next 4
minutes,
or so. That's based on on yourself, brother
Mohammed, how fast you can reflect inshallah. Let's
hear from you.
Aslam aslam can you hear me? Yes. We
can hear you.
I'm Mohammad Assad from Lahore, Pakistan, and it's
3:17
AM here. And I stay,
late at night
to watch your lectures,
to learn from you. And this is the
first time I'm enrolled in this program, Al
Maghrib.
The Zul Hage 360.
So and I'm regular and much.
And I, love all the information that is
shared by the scholars,
specifically speaking about, madam Taimia. I hope I
have pronounced it rightly because some language barrier
is there.
But but
And I am, actually a practicing clinical psychologist,
and, I would like to ask a few
questions. Like, maybe your comments. Not really, like,
answers to my questions, but your comments.
Actually, people around me nowadays, I have seen,
now they are becoming
more into atheism
or I would say a
sort of a thing. They ask very different
or difficult kind of questions
that why,
124,000
prophets were there. They ask, like, so much
why.
And they say they challenge even the translations
of the Quran that the translations
are by the people. So they are with
full of errors.
So how to, like, address these kinds of,
like, attacks like, attacking on the fundamentals?
And, secondly, since I'm a practicing
clinical psychologist, the trend among the women is
escalating
that,
they
tease their husbands. They provoke their husbands,
to leave,
his old parents, and let's they
request them or, like, it's a conflict to
let's move to a separate house, separate apartment.
There's no need to fulfill your responsibilities.
Okay. So And and and even they deprive
the husbands to meet the children. Since you
talked about the knowledge, so I hope that
my questions are related to the context to
the topic.
Thank you.
So one thing I'd I'd like to mention
is that,
you see a lot of
such
objections that people have,
they actually come from a place of ignorance.
Right?
You being a practicing clinical psychologist, you know
how many
ignorant assumptions people have when it comes to
psychotherapy,
when it comes to
psychological
illnesses even.
You know, a person is feeling sad and
they diagnose themselves as, you know, that they
have some depressive disorder.
People have a lot of,
you know,
sometimes people also make fun of
such concepts or or such illnesses.
And all of this is coming from a
place of ignorance.
Right?
So,
the same way when people raise such objections
about Islam, realize that a lot of times
they're coming from a place of ignorance.
And so if you wanna answer those questions,
you have to increase in your knowledge and
help them increase in their knowledge as well.
Insha'Allah. And then a lot of these confusions
will go away.
Insha'Allah.
And as for
the other issue, insha'Allah, you can ask
in the Fatwa night
about the answer to that specific question. Inshallah.
Inshallah. And reminder again, that's tomorrow at 4
PM EST. So we're starting q the the
session tomorrow early by 1 hour, and you
can submit the questions to the form on
our portal. And I'll drop that here in
the chat as well, inshallah, so that you

that you're doing so consistently with. And I
honestly, I will say just for myself is
I know the folks who have been one
of the group of people who've been stretched
out the most outside of those who are
in Gaza right now, you know, beyond the
activist is the the people who are running
charities and who are trying to get this
aid to them and who are trying to
fundraise enough and and constantly worried about the
the the amount that they need and and
what's gonna happen to Powell when this even
when when the crisis is over, when the
war you know, when the genocide is over,
and how are they gonna save the lives
that are remaining. So please make sure you
donate generously, and please make sure that you
choose, the some of the amazing folks that
we've partnered with this Ramadan.

Many of you have done this. To those
who have. But a quick reminder as we're
closing off, inshallah, we have a video as
well from them. So please watch, in the
next of the session. Take care.
The following was Rafa 2 days ago.
The relentless bombings of innocent children, women, and
men just won't stop.
In just the past 48 hours, over 350
Palestinians
were severely injured.
Over 53 have been confirmed dead so far,
and many are missing,
presumed
watches in silence, with no one able to
stop this madness.
Amidst all this chaos,
Forgotten Women continues to deliver vital aid to
the people of Palestine,
including hygiene kits,
essential supplies,
food,
water,
as well as medical aid.
There you are, guys. You have the link
inshallah in the chats.

giving,
as much as you possibly can. We'll see
you guys tomorrow at the same not the
same time, an hour ahead for our Fathwa
night. I wish this uni, and we'll start
the session right afterwards. Take care for now.
Spread the word. And for now,
