Inna lillahi wa inna yiraja'oon.
She is requesting dua for her father.
We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to
grant him a place in Jannah.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala have mercy
upon him.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make the
journey of the akhirah an easy one for
him.
Ammi rabbal alameen.
And finally, the most important announcement is that,
as you all know, and you should know
by now insha'Allah, that tonight we have
a very important event here at the masjid.
We have our annual fundraiser insha'Allah.
This is for the QCA Girls Campus.
So try to come with your family insha
'Allah.
It's an open community event.
Jazakumullah khair.
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
I bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship
except Allah.
I bear witness that there is none worthy
of worship except Allah.
I bear witness
that Muhammad is the Messenger of
Allah.
I bear witness that
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Come to prayer.
Come to prayer.
Come to salvation.
Come to salvation.
Allah is the greatest.
Allah is the greatest.
There is none worthy of
worship except Allah.
Brothers and sisters, this is a khutbah that
I've been wanting to give for a very
long time.
But I've been trying to find the opportunity
to give this khutbah.
In my recent trip, I just returned back.
When I was in Medina, as we were
going and sending our peace and blessings upon
Rasulallah ﷺ, you saw so many people who
came from different backgrounds, different ethnicities.
And it really goes to show you how
much there is love for the Prophet ﷺ
in the hearts of the ummah.
People stand up, people give up their lives,
people spend money just so that they can
go to Medina, spend days in Medina.
And the highlight of that trip is always
going and spending and sending our peace and
blessings upon Rasulallah ﷺ.
However, one of the things that I saw
very often in this trip is that you
see people out of love for the Prophet
ﷺ, they do things that are not found
anywhere in the Qur'an and the Sunnah
of Rasulallah ﷺ.
I saw people that in the name of
love for the Prophet ﷺ, as they're standing
in line, just trying to get to that
point where they are right in front of
the Prophet ﷺ.
And by the way, many of us, we
may not understand and realize this, but when
we are going and sending our peace upon
the Prophet ﷺ, and we are saying salam
to the Prophet ﷺ, because of the fact
that the Prophet ﷺ is lying on his
right side, he is actually, his face is
facing everyone who is going and making salam
to the Prophet ﷺ.
His body is facing you as you're making
salam to the Prophet ﷺ.
But you saw people that as they were
passing by and getting closer, the mimbar of
the Prophet ﷺ, or the mihrab where the
Prophet ﷺ would generally lead the salat, they
were taking their hands and they were wiping
their hands on the marble, and then wiping
it on their clothes.
I saw people standing far behind against the
wall, as they are facing the maqbara of
Rasulallah ﷺ, and they're standing in salat like
this.
They're not praying salat, but they're standing like
this.
I saw people that as they were finishing
their salam to the Prophet ﷺ, they think
that it is a respect to the Prophet
ﷺ, that instead of just walking out normally
like human beings, they were walking backwards.
They were not just leaving normally, as they
were leaving they were walking backwards.
Because there is a mindset that has spread
amongst the ummah in some groups, that if
you turn your back to the Prophet ﷺ,
it is a form of disrespect to the
Prophet ﷺ.
And all these things are not found anywhere
in the Qur'an, in the sunnah of
Rasulallah ﷺ.
And yes, so once again I saw that
there is love within the ummah of the
Prophet ﷺ.
But how we show that love by doing
these kind of things that are not found
anywhere in our tradition, is something that we
need to stay away from.
But the question then begs, that how do
I live the legacy of the Prophet ﷺ?
If I want to be with the Prophet,
this is something that you and I we
all wish, that we are with the Prophet
ﷺ on the day of judgment.
And may Allah ﷻ grant us a place
close to the Prophet ﷺ on the day
of judgment.
The question is, what do you and I
we need to do?
There are four things today insha'Allah I
wanna share with you in this khutbah, that
if we want to live the legacy of
the Prophet ﷺ, what should we do?
The very first thing that we need to
all do, and this is something that Allah
has instructed us to do.
And it's not one of those kind of
things that Allah has instructed us only.
But Allah instructs us, and He does it
Himself.
Think about it, something that Allah tells you
and I to do.
Allah tells us to pray salat, but Allah
does not pray salat.
Allah tells us to give zakat, Allah does
not give zakat.
But think about something, it has to be
so important that Allah is saying, you do
this because Allah does it Himself.
What is that?
It is sending our peace and blessings upon
Rasulullah ﷺ.
Allah says in the Qur'an, إِنَّ اللَّهَ
وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ اللَّهِمْسَلْفُ وَمَلَائِكَ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ They
send their peace and blessings to the Prophet
ﷺ.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
O you believers, you also send your peace
and blessings upon Rasulullah ﷺ.
Of course, when we are in Medina, if
Allah gives you a chance to go there,
you send your peace and blessings.
But it does not mean that if you
are sitting here in Dallas, Texas, or anywhere
else around the world, and you send your
peace and blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, that
it will not reach him.
In fact, it will reach him, and the
Prophet ﷺ, according to some other hadith, he
will respond with the salam.
So this is why it is absolutely important,
brothers and sisters, that whenever we hear the
name, ﷺ, or we hear the name of
Muhammad ﷺ, because the Prophet ﷺ also says
in a hadith, found in Tirmidhi, that he
says that a miser, a stingy person is
that person, that in front of whom my
name is being mentioned, and he does not
send his peace and blessings upon him ﷺ.
So that is why it is absolutely essential
that we send our peace and blessings.
And Ibn Qayyim ﷺ says something interesting.
He says that even if we were to
send our peace and blessings to the Prophet
ﷺ, for every single time we breathe, for
every time we inhale and we exhale, even
at that point, we will have not been
able to fulfill the rights of Rasulullah ﷺ.
Think about it, brothers and sisters.
We call ourselves Muslims.
We follow the Qur'an.
We follow the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
How can we not send our blessings upon
the Prophet ﷺ?
Not here and there, on a daily basis.
Imagine living a life, imagine living a life
without the guidance, without the teachings of Rasulullah
ﷺ.
Every day from morning to evening, from morning
to night, there is some aspect of the
life of the Prophet ﷺ that is existed
in our life.
But imagine if there was a life where
there is no guidance, no guidance of Rasulullah
ﷺ in our life.
How would we live our life?
What duas would we recite to remember Allah?
How would we know how to treat people
in our community, in our family?
How would we know how to learn about
the Prophet ﷺ?
The fact that we have all these things,
brothers and sisters, this is our way of
showing gratitude to the Prophet ﷺ.
Another reason of why we send our peace
and blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, is that
it will fulfill our needs, and it will
be a solution to our problems.
Ubayy radiallahu ta'ala anhu, he came to
the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, Ya Rasulullah,
I send a lot of peace and blessings
upon you.
He then says, should I increase that?
The Prophet ﷺ says, as much as you
wish.
He said, how about one-fourth of all
my duas?
The Prophet ﷺ said, as much as you
wish, but the more the better.
He says, how about half of all my
duas?
The Prophet ﷺ gave the same response.
He said, how about two-thirds?
And the Prophet ﷺ gave the same response.
At the end he says, how about I
send you more than anything, more than all
my duas are regarding you, and I send
many blessings upon you, Ya Rasulullah.
The Prophet ﷺ he says, that in that
case, all your needs will be sufficed, and
your sins will be forgiven.
This is a hadith in Tirmidhi.
So this is why one of the blessings
of sending our peace and blessings upon Rasulullah
ﷺ, is that it illuminates the heart, it
eases our matters, and this is why we
send as much as we can.
Also we learn from the Prophet ﷺ that
in our duas, we should not just jump
in our duas, and asking for whatever we
want, but rather in our duas, we begin
with the glorification of Allah, and we send
our peace and blessings upon Rasulullah ﷺ.
There was a man who was once making
dua in front of the Prophet ﷺ.
Neither did he praise Allah, neither did he
send his blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ called him and he told
him that he was too hasty in his
dua.
And then he ﷺ and he told him,
that you should start off by glorifying Allah,
and then sending a peace and blessings upon
the Prophet ﷺ, and then he should make
dua for whatever he wants.
This is why we always see that in
our aslaf, they always taught us, our salaf,
they always taught us, that in the beginning
of your dua, you send your peace and
blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, along with glorifying
Allah, and you conclude also with sending our
peace and blessings upon Rasulullah ﷺ.
So the very first thing in order to
show our love to the Prophet, is that
we send our peace and blessings upon the
Prophet ﷺ.
Number two, brothers and sisters, is that we
internalize his character.
You cannot, none of us can expect that
I will not exhibit the character and the
akhlaq of the Prophet ﷺ.
And then I expect to be with the
Prophet ﷺ on the day of judgment.
If I want to be with the Prophet
ﷺ on the day of judgment, if I
want to show to Allah that I love
Rasulullah ﷺ, we love Rasulullah ﷺ, then brothers
and sisters, our akhlaq has to be like
the Prophet ﷺ.
The way he will show compassion and mercy,
not just outside, but even at home.
Subhanallah, how many calls I get, how many
stories do I hear, that people outside have
a certain persona.
At home, wallahi they are tyrants.
The way they talk to their families, the
way they talk to their wife, the way
they talk to their husband, the way they
talk to their children, wallahi they cannot show
their face outside.
If people outside found out that this is
how they are at home.
This is not the akhlaq of the Prophet
ﷺ.
Just because we show a certain personality outside,
and we have double faces, triple faces, triple
personalities, this is not who the Prophet ﷺ
was.
The way he was at home, that is
how he was outside.
As our mother Aisha radiallahu anha, she says,
كان خلقه القرآن.
His akhlaq was like the Qur'an.
So the question is, where is that compassion
and that mercy in our life?
Just like we find in the seerah of
the Prophet ﷺ.
Where is that humility in our life, like
we find in the seerah of the Prophet
ﷺ.
Where is that forgiveness element in our life?
Where is that forbearance element in our life?
Just like we learn from the Prophet ﷺ.
Brothers and sisters, once again, if we want
to be with the Prophet ﷺ, then our
akhlaq, my character, has to be like the
Prophet ﷺ.
I understand we're all human beings, we might
have slip ups, sometimes here and there, we
may not be able to exhibit the akhlaq,
but overall in our life, we need to
make a concentrated effort to make sure that
my akhlaq, our akhlaq, is like the akhlaq
of the Prophet ﷺ.
The third thing that we need to do,
if we want to live the legacy of
the Prophet ﷺ, is to serve others.
One thing that the Prophet ﷺ taught the
people of Medina, when he walked into Medina,
he says, افش السلام, spread the salam.
And the ulema they say that, this only
does not mean to say, السلام عليكم.
It means that you spread peace, you embody
peace, you are a representation of peace.
Wherever you go, people see you, and they
feel good in their heart.
There are people who have such personalities, that
people will see them from far, and they
will say, لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله.
I don't want to deal with this kind
of person.
That is not who the Prophet ﷺ was.
The Prophet ﷺ says, افش السلام.
And then he says, وأطعم الطعام.
That feed those who are in need.
The Prophet ﷺ is teaching us to be
there in serving other people.
Subhanallah, we learn from the seerah, brothers and
sisters, how the Prophet ﷺ always went out
of his way to serve the people of
his community.
And when he did it, the sahaba did
it accordingly.
We find from Abu Bakr ؓ, he would
go for so many years.
Think about it.
For so many years, he would go to
a blind woman's house.
A blind woman's house.
He would take care of the things in
her house.
He never would tell her that, I am
Abu Bakr.
And whenever she did ask, who are you?
Abu Bakr ؓ kept it anonymous.
He wanted to show that he is serving
humankind.
He would go to her home, wash her
clothes, feed her children breakfast.
He would grind the wheat.
He would clean the house.
And he did this on year's end.
Never was he looking for praise in the
community because they knew the importance of serving
the humankind.
He knew and they knew, the sahaba ؓ,
the importance of serving others.
And this is why the Prophet ﷺ, he
says, سَيِّدُ الْقَوْمِ خَادِمُهُمْ The leader of the
people is those who serve other people.
This is who Rasulullah ﷺ was.
So brothers and sisters, this is not limited
to only the Muslim community.
Go outside also.
There are so many people who are in
need of help.
Take your children, show the importance of serving
other people.
Being there for other people.
We have today, created such an environment for
ourselves, where we are growing up, and our
kids are growing up to be selfish.
It's always about them.
They feel entitled in every single matter.
I have met people who are not even
from Dallas.
Professionals, doctors, who are not even from Dallas.
They are coming here to Dallas, and they're
looking at the landscape of the community overall,
Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
And they're saying that one of the things
that we have seen here is that every
child, every teenager, and people in general, they
feel entitled.
The reason why we feel this entitlement is
because we don't have this nature of going
out and serving others.
When you go out and you serve others,
and you see what people are going through,
Wallahi, it brings your demands lower.
You learn how to be thankful to Allah
for what we have.
We learn how to have zuhd in our
life.
We learn how to be content with the
little that we have.
And that is when our demands, they diminish.
So the only way this happens is by
serving others.
And finally, brothers and sisters, the fourth thing
that we can do to embody that love,
that legacy of the Prophet ﷺ, is what,
subhanallah, one of the most amazing things that
you'll find about even Medina.
The Prophet ﷺ, he was a person who
brought hearts together.
The Prophet ﷺ was a person who brought
people together.
And subhanallah, that was his legacy.
That was his legacy.
Until today, his city and his masjid, Masjid
al-Nabawi, the masjid that the Prophet ﷺ
carries that same legacy, subhanallah, till today.
You will find time, you will not have
time to meet people in your own city,
let alone another state or anywhere else.
And no matter how many thousands of people
you will find in Medina, you'll run into
people that you know, subhanallah.
You'll always run into people that you know.
You have not seen for so many years.
Even in the midst of thousands of people,
how is that possible?
Because this was the legacy of the Prophet
ﷺ.
And his masjid and his city carries that
same legacy till today, subhanallah.
The Prophet ﷺ, he brought hearts together.
Look at the way he brought the hearts
of the Muhajirin and the Ansar together.
Look at how he brought the hearts of
the Aus and the Khazraj together.
Look at how when he came into Medina,
what did he say?
He says, أَفْشُ السَّلَامُ وَأَطْعِمُ الطَّعَامُ وَصِلُ الْأَرْحَامُ
That spread this importance of kith and kin.
This relationship building is important in our deen.
Severing ties, severing relationships is not good.
It's not good for our families.
It is not good for our community on
any level, brothers and sisters.
This is why it is important that even
when you find a situation that there are
two people not talking to each other, stepping
in and bringing the hearts together.
Unfortunately today, you and I, many times what
we do is, we start taking sides.
We start criminalizing the other.
We start bashing the other.
Brothers and sisters, if you think about it,
what would Rasulullah ﷺ do if he saw
two people not talking to each other?
If he saw two people, two groups, that
were at odds with each other, the Prophet
would not step in and put more fuel
to the fire.
He would step in and bring the hearts
together.
This is who we need to become in
our families.
This is what we need to become in
our communities.
Bringing hearts together and bringing people together.
This is what Rasulullah ﷺ he did.
And not only just in our society, in
our community, and even in our own families,
but even on a greater scale.
What did the Prophet ﷺ do when he
came into Medina?
He found a way to create the constitution
of Medina.
That even till today, even till today, if
you go and read about Thomas Jefferson, and
he had a copy of the Qur'an,
he would read Islamic history, and he writes
that these people, these Muslims, he would not
refer to them as Muslims, he would refer
to them as the Muhammadans.
These Muhammadans, that the constitution that the Prophet
ﷺ he established and he put in place
in Medina, is something that he took ideas
from that, even for the constitution of this
country.
How the Prophet ﷺ he brought people and
communities together.
This is how we can live the legacy
of the Prophet ﷺ.
I ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that
He makes us from amongst those who are
able to carry and live the legacy of
the Prophet ﷺ.
And once again I ask Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala to make us from amongst those,
along with our families, to be the closest
people to the Prophet ﷺ on the Day
of Judgment and in Jannah for those.
Surah Al
-Baqarah
Once again, the four things that
we can do, just as a recap, that
we can do to live the legacy of
the Prophet ﷺ.
Number one is, continuously and constantly sending our
peace and blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ.
Number two is, exhibiting and living the akhlaaq
of the Prophet ﷺ.
Number three, to uphold and maintain his mission,
which is to serve other people, to be
there for other people when they need us,
is number three.
And number four is, bringing the hearts together,
bringing people together, resolving issues, whether it's in
our family, our community, or anywhere else.
Being that kind of person is living the
legacy of the Prophet ﷺ.
May Allah ﷻ make us among those who
will be the closest to the Prophet ﷺ.
May Allah ﷻ grant us, our children and
our upcoming generations, the ability to stick with
the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
And may Allah ﷻ grant us every khayr
and every good that Muhammad ﷺ has ever
asked for.
And may Allah ﷻ protect us from every
evil and harm, inshallah, that Muhammad ﷺ has
ever sought protection from Amir al-Bilalameen.
