What do you think is going on here?
So,
this is brother Kwai. Right?
Yeah. That's it. Brother Kwai.
And, we met, we already before.
I'm gonna let him introduce
himself.
Brother Kwai, why don't you share with everyone,
you know, what do you do as a
profession,
and where are you from?
My name is Quay. I'm originally from, Columbus,
Georgia.
I'm a history teacher, high school history teacher,
right here in, the Dallas area. And what
was your,
you had told me about your first exposure
to Islam, about your family. Right? Absolutely.
My dad was a Muslim man.
He converted Christianity once he married my mother.
Okay. So we were raised in a Christian
household.
But you were somewhere aware of Islam and
so forth? Absolutely. I am so I was
aware of some of the teachings, but, not
really exposed to it. What was the you
know, you were telling me earlier that
what led you to Islam? Like, what was
the tipping point that you basically said to
yourself that this is, you know, no matter
what, I gotta take now I gotta take
my shahada. What was that point in your
life?
Just being a history teacher, just reading so
much. You know what I mean? Just wanted
to know.
And, it seemed like everything led back to
Islam. So no matter what I studied,
I was just in a position where I
wanted to know, you know, where we come
from, what was my purpose.
And, the more I studied, the more I
learned, and everything just had 1 singular path,
and it always led back to us. You
know, by the way, I've always said this
before
that when it comes to our Muslim our
Muslim youth, we don't do a lot of
reading, by the way.
We don't do a lot of reading. The
more you read,
the more intellectual you become. The more you
read, the more your mind
expands, and the more you learn. So you
can see, Kway, that, you know, he's a
young man teaching,
always reading, and, subhanallah, the more he read,
the more he actually saw that everything goes
back to Islam.
So and then you had where did you
meet brother T'Jon?
So I wanted to purchase my first kufi.
Okay. Yeah. T'Jon actually worked at the store,
and I walked in. They could tell that
I was confused, I was lost, and they
just greeted me with open arms. And and
he he just walked me through, gave me
all the information I needed, and he's been
supporting of me, ever since.
By the way, brother Tijan is, parents are
from Gambia,
And he actually helped brother Quay, give giving
him a lot of information.
I bear witness. There is none. There is
none. Worthy of worship. Worthy of worship. But
Allah. But Allah. And I bear witness. And
I bear witness. That Mohammed. That Muhammad. Peace
be upon him. Peace be upon him. Is
his messenger. Is his messenger. Takbir.
Allahu Akbar. Takbir. Takbir.
By tonight, you're gonna feel tired also. Okay?
I know there's, like, this adrenaline inside your
body, and this excitement,
but you know what happens? I told you,
I gave you a glimpse. Right? What happens
after you take your shada?
What happens? That I get a lot of
hugs. Yeah. You get a lot of hugs.
Okay. So, inshallah, all these people are gonna
come congratulate you, but, congratulations,
my my friend,
my brother. May
Allah may Allah make this journey an easy
1 for you. My advice to you is
take it slowly every single day. You don't
have to rush into it. Take every single
day,
every single opportunity is a learning opportunity, and
so forth. If you have any questions, you
have a very good friend in Tidjane. If
you have any questions, you can also come
back to me inshallah. Okay? Con congratulations.
