AI: Summary ©
I ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that just
as he has gathered us here today on
this day of jum'ah, may Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala gather us along with our families in
Jaduf for Dhu salaala, in the companionship of
Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and his Sahaba
Aminya Rabbilalamin.
Brothers and sisters,
in the Quran,
when Allah
swears upon something,
or we find the hadith, a hadith of
the prophet
emphasizing
on something,
there's a reason of emphasis.
The reason of the emphasis is
that you and
I, we cannot take these matters lightly, but
we have to take these matters very very
seriously.
When Allah talks about Ramadan in the Quran,
we take Ramadan seriously.
When Allah talks about reading Quran in the
month of Ramadan,
we take it seriously.
When we read the hadith of the prophet
about Ramadan,
Bilhijjah,
Eid, Muharram,
and any other virtue that we find. And
there's emphasis,
you and I as a community, as a
family, we understand
that these are not light matters, but these
are serious matters.
But there is one topic that often does
not get discussed,
especially from the mimbar.
And that is that we discuss the virtues
of many different things.
But how often do we hear about the
virtues
and the importance
of the day of Jum'ah in itself?
This day, brothers and sisters,
is a day that we should be looking
forward to throughout the entire week.
Just like throughout the entire year, as the
year progresses, and we are getting closer to
Ramazan,
we are looking forward to Ramazan.
Likewise,
as we get closer to the day of
Jum'ah,
you and I, we should be looking forward
to the day of Jum'ah.
Not because
Jum'ah is the last day of the week,
and Saturday, Sunday, I'm gonna get to chill
out, and I'm gonna be able to relax,
and I won't have to go to work.
That's not
why we are looking towards, and looking forward
to Jum'ah. But you and I, we are
looking forward to Jum'ah,
because this is the day
that Allah
Himself
chose this day. The Prophet
says in a hadith, narrated by Abu Hurayra
and
Hudayfa
That Allah he led
those who came before us
away from Jum'ah.
Meaning that Allah did not want the pre
other religions
to take Jum'ah.
Hence, the yahood took the day of Saturday,
and the nasaara took the day of Sunday.
And then Allah
He called us forward, and He gave us.
Think about it. This is not just the
Prophet alaihi wasalam choosing himself this day of
jum'ah,
but what an amazing selection it is
that Allah made this selection for us. Allah
chose this day for us, this day of
Friday, this day of jum'am, for the ummah
of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam, and then the
Prophet
he says,
We are the last ummah to come into
this dunya, but the very first on the
day of judgment. And the Prophet
says, that we will be dealt before everyone
else.
And this is why
ibn Qayyim
a great scholar, he said, that when we
observe Friday,
then try to understand it and compare it
to Ramadan.
Just like Ramadan,
compared to all the other months,
is the most prestigious.
Likewise,
Friday is the most prestigious.
Just like Ramadan has a night, the night
of power, the night of
A night where you and I, we dedicate
ourselves.
Ibn al Qayyim says that on Friday,
there is an hour, there is a time
of the day that Allah
He accepts our duas, and you and I,
we need to dedicate ourselves to Allah
So brothers and sisters,
it always comes down to the It always
comes down to how we think about something,
how we approach about how we approach something
mentally, physically,
psychologically.
So when it comes to the day of
Friday, just don't see it as the end
of the week, and now we're gonna have
2 days off. But see this day.
See this day as a day that we
come back to Allah
Which brings me to point number 2. And
point number 2 of this khutba is, that
this is a day where we renew,
where we revive our commitment to Allah
Has it ever occurred to any of us
that on the day of Jum'ah,
in salatul fajr,
it was the practice, the sunnah of the
Prophet
that in the first rakah he would read,
Suratul Sajidah.
And the second rakah he would read Surat
al Insan.
Why? Many of the ulama they say, If
you study Surat al Sajdah, and you study
the themes of Surat al Insan,
they are very similar.
They talk about how we as a human
being, we were created.
It talks about the purpose of our life.
It talks about the akhirah. It talks about
waking up at the time of tahajjud,
and dedicating ourselves to Allah
In other words, in an essence,
what Allah wants us to do on the
day of Jum'ah,
those things are highlighted in Surat Sajda and
Surat Insan.
Read Surat Sajda next time. Read Surat Insan.
Allah talks about these kind of things. In
Suratul Insan, Allah talks about jannah. Why? Because
people who dedicate themselves to Allah, they will
receive jannah in the hereafter.
So this is why this day is so
important, and everything regarding this day is a
way to bring us back to Allah
In the Quran in itself, another beautiful point.
In the Quran,
if you study, you will notice that Allah
does not take any name of the week.
He does not take any name of any
day of the week besides 2 days.
He mentions
in the Quran.
And he will mention
or
That's the only 2 days of the entire
week that Allah
mentions in the Quran.
The reason why is because Allah is telling
us,
Allah is trying to send us a very
clear message
that I have
an expectation
from you. Meaning, Allah has an expectations from,
an expectation
from all of us. How we should approach
the day of Jum'ah.
And the only reason Allah mentioned the word
in the Quran,
is to help us understand. For in order
for us to reflect that these were the
people of the past, so we can learn
from the past, and learn that Allah
has certain expectations from them too.
But they violated
the expectations of Allah
Allah said, Do not fish on the day
of Saturday, yet they will go and throw
their nets, and they will try to find
a loophole in the laws of
Allah This was Allah's way of testing them,
but they failed their test. And there are
many lessons in the Quran about the ashabu
asaf, and how they violated this day that
was supposed to be dedicated to Allah
So in other words, Allah is now mentioning
the day of Jum'ah. Why? So that you
and I, we understand
that just like Allah wants us to dedicate
this day, and Allah wants us to remember
Allah on this day, then we need to
come forward and remember Allah
The Prophet
he mentions in a hadith about this day
of Jum'ah. He says,
The best day on which the sun has
risen is the day of Friday. He then
says,
This is the day when Adam alayhis salam
was created. And this is the day that
he was sent down on the earth, and
this is the day when his repentance was
accepted.
Allah could have accepted his repentance on any
other day, but he accepted on Friday. In
the ulama they say, that the lesson in
this is that on the day of Friday,
you and I, we need to also make
tawbah on the day of Friday. And hopefully
Allah
will accept our tawbah on the day of
judgment. And then,
will accept our tawbah on this day. Then
the Prophet says,
This is the day that he was he
was, he had died Adam
And then he says,
And this is the day that the day
of judgment will occur. And then, look at
the statement of the Prophet
He compares
the human being,
and he compares the human being to the
animals.
And he says
that when it comes to the animals,
on the day of Jum'ah,
Allah has created an instinct inside them that
they know it is the day of Jum'ah.
And they know that the day of judgment
will occur on the day of Jum'ah.
Hence, they are in a state of fear.
They are in a state of fear. We're
talking about animals here. Not the human being.
We're talking about animals here. The Prophet
says, The animals are in a state
that will today be the day of judgment
or not. They are in this state of
mind.
And then the prophet
says,
But there's one exception.
The one who's not thinking about this
is the son of Adam.
You and I, we sometimes occupy ourselves so
much,
not realizing
that animals sometimes,
in many cases, they have a better awareness
of the day of jum'ah, than sometimes the
son of Adam. Subhanallah. This is what the
Prophet alaihi wasalam was saying. Then the Prophet
alaihi wasalam, he says,
that, On this day there is an hour
in which,
The prophet says that on this day, there
is an hour that whenever, whatever a person
he will ask for, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
He will give it to him. So brothers
and sisters,
this day of Jum'ah is a day where
we revive our commitment to Allah
Throughout the entire week, we might be doing
this haram, that haram, but come the day
of Friday, this is the day where we
come back to Allah
We come back to the masjid. When it
comes to the time of khutbah, we try
to come early, and there's other things that
inshallah I will mention about the khutbah that
are extremely important. But the point is, we
cannot just treat this day as like any
other day, but we take this day very
seriously.
Number 3, brothers and sisters, about this day
of jum'ah is that Allah
has immense amount of mercy on us.
Think about it for a moment. When it
came to the Jewish community,
Allah
told them that you have to engage in
the worship of Allah throughout the entire day.
And even till today,
the Jewish community, they observe Sabbath.
Not the day of Sabbath, but from
the sun set time,
on the day of Jum'ah.
Friday comes at sunset,
you will see in the the the dense
Jewish communities,
they all are hitting the marketplaces. Why? Let
me buy everything. Why? Because when Sabbath comes,
and especially the Orthodox Jews, if you see
them, they cannot buy or sell. There are
times I've talked to Jewish rabbis, and they
have said, I cannot drive a car on
the day of Sabbath. That day lasts for
1 entire day, from the sunset of Friday
to the sunset of Saturday. Look at how
much they are observing.
On top of that, Allah
told them that you cannot even fish for
one entire day.
But look at how much mercy Allah had
on this ummah of Rasulullah
All that Allah is saying is,
The rush to the day rush to the
masjid.
Rush on the day of jum'ah.
Not that the jum'ah time is starting, and
the khutbah starts at 1:45 or 3:30.
And then now I'm leaving I'm leaving my
home at 1:45.
Allah is telling us,
At that time people were engaged
in
in commerce.
People were engaged in buying and selling. Allah
is saying, quit all that. Anything that can
deviate
us, anything that can take us away from
Jum'ah,
and make us unmindful of Jum'ah. Leave all
that, and rush to the masjid. Rush towards
Jum'ah.
And Allah
what is he telling us? Is he telling
us that we have to
engage ourselves
for one entire day? 24 hours? No.
He's saying,
Once the salat is over,
spread back on the earth.
And seek out your rizq.
Seek out the fadhal and the gratitude of
Allah
and the favors of Allah
And then he says,
and
remember Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala,
Brothers and sisters, wallahi, this is a mercy
from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
If Allah wanted, he could have said that
you are the best of ummah. I'm expecting
the most from He's expecting the most from
us. Hence, one entire day, you have to
dedicate to Allah
If Allah wanted, he could have done that.
But Allah is making things easy for us.
Allah wants to make things easy for us,
and not difficult for us. So this is
the third point, that this day and what
Allah is expecting from us is a mercy
from Allah
The 4th thing, which is, that what are
we supposed to do on this day of
jum'ah?
As I said earlier,
that when it comes to the day of
jum'ah,
we need to come to the masjid early.
We try to come to the masjid, to
to the masjid early as possible, and be
part of the khutba from beginning to end.
And when we sit in the khutba Let
me be very blunt,
because at times, I myself,
When I'm not given the khutbah,
and I'm standing in the back,
I see people on their phones.
People are checking their social media accounts.
People are checking their emails.
Playing games.
While what is going on?
Not only that.
People leaning against the walls.
Tell me,
in the most important event in your life
Imagine there's a there's a very important sporting
event that is taking place on television.
Would you just sit against the wall and
show your carelessness?
You would not do that.
Think about the Super Bowl going on. Everyone
is glued to the TV.
Everyone is facing the TV.
But yet we see in Jumah Khudbah,
people are coming.
I see people leaning against the wall in
a state of They're just daydreaming.
Completely oblivious
of what is being said on the mimbar.
Show some respect, brothers and sisters.
Show some respect.
If you cannot give your concentration
and devotion
for half an hour, what kind of a
commitment do you have to Allah?
You say that I am committed to Allah,
but you cannot even give half an hour
of concentration.
What kind of a commitment is that?
When we come for the jumma khutba, think
about this.
When the prophet is giving the khutba,
and he reads an ayah of the Quran.
Abu Dardar
is sitting next to Ubayib Anakab.
And he's telling him, he's asking him, When
was this ayah revealed?
He's not asking about something else. He's asking
about something about religion. When was this ayah
revealed?
Ubay ibn Akab ignored him. The second time
he asked him, he ignored him. When the
salat When the iqamah took place,
Ubay ibn al Qab, he looked at Abu
Darda and he said, You have gotten nothing
from this khutba.
He was just asking a religious question.
Think about if Ubay ibn al Qa'a came
today
and saw the way people are sitting in
Jumah Khutbah.
What would he say about those kind of
people?
He says, I went to the prophet
after the salat.
The yara salat. This is what happened between
me and Ubayi Maqab. Is he right? He
says he is absolutely right.
Even There are a hadith that say Even
to say that stay quiet.
Even that is a violation.
We need to be completely
concentrating
to the khatib
and to the khutba,
and listen. Don't sit there and say, Yeah,
I've heard this before. Yeah, I've heard this
story before. Rather the question is, whatever the
khatib is saying, have I applied it in
my life? And if I have applied it
in my life, then the question is, have
I conveyed it to others? Because that is
the responsibility of the ummah of the prophet
Brothers and sisters,
we need to take the khutba seriously.
This is Why do you think salduljumma is
only just 2 raka'as?
Dhuhr salat is 4 raka'as.
Why is it that jumma is only 2
raka'as?
Because the khutba in itself is almost like
that 2 raka'as.
It compensates for those 2 rakahs.
Like we generally pray in sur. So there's
4 rakahs, but here there's a khutbah, and
then there's just 2 rakahs. That's why we
don't pray for. So this khutbah has to
be taken seriously.
Even coming and making salaam. I'm standing in
the back.
Sometimes people will come and say salaam to
me. I don't want to make salaam.
Because doing the khutbah, making salaam is not
the right thing either.
But there are times when people are so
ignorant about the matter that if you don't
make salam to them, they get highly offended.
So, brothers and sisters, we need to take
this very seriously. When we come to masjid,
half an hour,
half an hour, we cannot sit there and
concentrate,
we have some serious problems.
Number 2.
This is the day that we send our
peace and blessings upon rasulullah
The Prophet alayhi wasalam, he says, aqthirus salataalayyomuljumaa
walaylatuljumaa.
Not just on the day of jumaa, like
after fajal, but from maghrib, on Thursday night,
the day of jumaa starts. From that point
all the way to the maghrib, on the
day of jum'ah, we keep on sending our
peace and blessings upon rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa
sallam. And there are many, many blessings of
sending our peace and blessings, or as some
people recognize
it as sending, you know, our durood upon
the prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam. But, subhanAllah,
there are so many blessings. Just one blessing
I will share with you is that the
prophet alayhi wa sallam, he says that anyone
who abundantly
sends their peace and blessings upon me, Allah
will take care of their matters. Or in
in paraphrasing, Allah will take care of their
matters, alleviate their difficulties, and so forth. So
the point is, there are many blessings. More
importantly, the greatest blessing is
that we want to come closer to the
prophet
We want the love of the prophet
And more than anything, we want the
of Rasulullah
on the day of judgment. I want to
be close to the prophet on the day
of judgment. That's why we send our peace
and blessings upon Rasulullah
Number 3 is, on this day of Jumaa,
we try to read Surah Kahf. The prophet
says
in a hadith,
Anyone who reads on the Kahf, it will
be serving it will serve as a nur
for him from 1 jum'ah to the next
jum'ah. And of course, the last thing is
that on this day of jum'ah, there is
an hour. And there is a hadith of
prophet about this, and there are many different
opinions about this about this. But the one
opinion that does exist about this hadith,
about about an hour on the day of
Jumu'ah,
is that
is this hour or this time. It may
not be exactly 1 hour and 60 minutes.
It could be 20 minutes, but it is
the last portion
of the day of Jum'ah. So if sata'ulmagrib
is around like a 8:0:3, 8:0:4,
then we try to dedicate some time, 15,
20 minutes before before that time, or even
half an hour. But make dua for yourself.
Make dua. We all know We have talked
about it. We see this over and over
again of what is happening in Palestine with
our brothers and sisters. Make dua for them.
May Allah destroy the Vali moon. May Allah
give rizat to the Madloom. And so we
ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for them. But
ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for yourself. Ask
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for your family. Ask
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for your children. And
ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to bless and
protect the entire Ummah of Rasulullah salallahu alayhi
wa sallam. But on this day of Jum'ah,
especially on the last portion of this day
of Jum'ah, it should be dedicated to du'a.
I ask Allah
that he grants us the ability to value
this day of Jum'ah the way it should
be valued. And may Allah
grant us the tawfiq to fulfill the sunnahs
of the day of Jum'ah as we have
learned from the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
Allah
Straight lines from the gaps.
Brothers in the multiverse hall, please come inside.
There's still space.
Brothers in the back two rooms, please make
sure the rows are straight.
Sisters, make sure the rows are straight. The
rows are complete.
If there's any sisters inside the multirubus hall,
please come inside the main hall.
Often, brothers, there is a lot of space
on the extreme right or extreme left sides.
Please make sure that the rows and the
spaces are all filled.
Allahu
Akbarum.
If you can make some space inshallah so
we can bring the Janaza forward.
If I can, ask everyone to please make
sure the roads are straight. They're just way
that we praise all the jamaat, just stay
on the, the same rose inshallah, make sure
the roads are straight.
I'm gonna give the son, brother Sayed Mushtaq
Ahmad. He wants to say a few words
inshallah. I'll give him that opportunity.
I want to say many thanks
to all of you to pray for my
father.
I wish you could have met him. He
was an amazing person.
He was very involved in the Muslim community.
I wanted to just tell a small story
about him just so you can have an,
idea of what kind of person he was.
I grew up in Canada,
when we first when my dad first moved
here,
and my dad was very involved with the
Muslim community there.
And in the late nineties,
we had Bosnian refugees and Afghani refugees that
came in and connected with my dad.
And my dad, we would go every Friday
to prayer, and we'd read the verses of
Quran,
and we'd pray together.
And before we do that, my dad would
drop us off
at the Moshe, and then he'd go drive
back in his Ford Taurus wagon
and to these
our brothers and sisters and pick them up,
my our Afghani friends and our Bosnian friends.
That was the kind of person he was.
He helped build a moshid
in Red Deer, Alberta,
and then he helped build a moshid
in Lawton, Oklahoma.
He would come
Even in this moshid, he would come here
and ask for donations.
And
so I really thank you to thank you
all of you for helping put donations towards
the moshid in Oklahoma.
He was a very good person, and I
thank all of you. And I hope
may he go to the highest level of
Jannah.
And thank you everybody.
I mean,
This is a man
that who always
cared about others,
and the fact that he cared about others,
we ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to keep
him in his rahma and in his care.
And just like he built the house of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, may Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala grant him many palaces in Jannah.
And
may
Allah multiply his good deeds in many folds.
Is
a 4th
After the first,
we will recite
or
After the second,
we will send our peace and blessings upon
just like we generally do in the salat.
After the third, we will make any dua
of
and mercy,
for the deceased.
And then after the 4th, we'll make salaam
on both sides.
Just wanna, as a reminder that, for those
of you who are going to Farmersville Muslim
Cemetery,
if you have never been there, you can
just simply put in Google Maps. It will
take you there. But once you get there,
do observe the sunnahs of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam. Please be delicate with the body inshallah
as we, transport inshallah.
