So this is to continue,
from last week, where we started off with.
And I shared with you that,
sharing few things with you that Imam Ibn
Uqayim
he has mentioned in one of his books
that things that are considered as useless
in his duniya.
And in essence, if you think about it,
the 3 things that I shared with you
last week, and some of the things I'm
gonna share with you, a handful of things
I will share with you today.
Each of these things, if you think about
it,
these things are very very precious,
and they're very valuable.
However, if we don't use it the correct
way,
then then they become useless. So they're not
useless to begin with,
but when we don't utilize them correctly, then
they become useless.
Just to give you an example,
if you have a child
and you put a $100 bill in his
in his hand,
he's gonna take that, put it in his
mouth, throw it in a toy box. You
understand?
Because they don't understand the value of a
$100.
Or try to put try to understand this
way. Imagine you have a Mercedes.
Okay? Either you can put that in their
hand or you can put the toy keys
in their hand. What would you do? You
understand? Because you understand that if they lose
it, they throw it somewhere, you can't find
it, you don't have access to your car.
Okay? So the point is that there is
something that is very precious,
but the if it's not utilized properly,
it can lose all of its value. So
the few the few things, if you're if
you remember from last week, number 1 was
about knowledge. So knowledge in itself is very
good, very precious, very noteworthy.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala talks about the Fadidah
of 'il in the Quran, and the prophet
alayhi wasalam has I highlighted in the sunnah.
But if knowledge is not backed up by
action, then that knowledge becomes what now?
It becomes useless. You understand?
Likewise,
actions, good deeds, kayd is good. But if
it is not backed up and paired up
with ikhlas,
then that action lose loses all its value.
Likewise, when it comes to wealth and money,
it is a blessing from Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. We can use it to take care
of our needs. We can also use it
and spend it in the right place and
come close to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
But if it is used
just to simply for the purpose of hoarding
and keeping it to yourself,
then that money loses its spiritual value, if
you understand.
Now the few things, inshallah, today we're gonna
talk about is that number 1 The next
thing is
that a heart
that does not want to connect to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala,
that heart also becomes useless.
So the heart in itself, as we all
know, that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam tells
us in the hadith, Allah in nafiljazadi
mudra ida saluhal
jazadukullu
wa ila fasidal jazadukullu
alaawahialakal.
The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam tells us
that there's an organ in the body. If
it is in the right place, if it
has the right understanding,
if it has
meaning that there's
there is
that is taking place, and the heart is
in the right understanding,
in the right frame of mind, it will
affect everything around the body. Now, to take
a step back first.
Everything in the body has a purpose.
The liver has a function.
The kidneys have a function function.
The
the eyes have its own function. If the
eyes are not doing its job,
what happens? It becomes useless.
If the ears are not doing its job,
it becomes useless.
Everything has a purpose.
The the purpose of the heart
is to love something.
You know, when a person goes through a
divorce or someone, you know, they break their
relationship, the relationship off with someone else, what
do they say? He has a broken heart.
Or she has what? A broken heart. Right?
You understand that. Because
the idea of love and heart, they go
hand in hand. They're synonymous with each other.
When you talk about love, the first organ
that comes into our mind is not the
bind, it's what? The heart. So the heart
has to love something,
but the heart
that does not find the love of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
will always be restless.
Have you seen a fish outside of water?
It's always restless. It cannot just sit peacefully
unless it is completely gone. You understand?
But a heart
that does not that is not in the
right environment,
that has not find its true love,
which is the love of Allah Subh'anaHu Wa
Ta A'la
that heart is always
gonna be
always restless.
And there's always gonna be looking for that
love.
Unfortunately, today, you and I, we have given
that love to Allah.
It has the love of Allah but it's
not the priority in the heart.
The love of duniya is the priority.
And that is why you and I, we
cannot find happiness in our life.
The only way to find happiness,
true and everlasting happiness,
You know, subhanAllah, today they will tell you
that sitting on a beach, you know, that
is where you'll find happiness. You know, how
many times you see these commercials? You wanna
find happiness? You wanna look for paradise? Go
to this beach. Go to this resort. You
will find happiness there.
No. The idea is the heart, though we
may not have anything, but if the heart
has Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
then the heart is gonna find its true
understanding and its true purpose of life. Now
when the heart is in the right place,
then it affects everything else. As I said
earlier, the Hadith of Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam. If this heart is in the right
place, it will have an impact on the
eyes.
Then the eye is gonna see only which
pleases Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. If the heart
is in the right place, then it will
have an impact on the ears and the
ears will only hear which is pleasing to
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Everything is connected to the heart. So ibn
Qayyim Muhammadullahu Wa Ta'ala he says,
that the heart in itself is very valuable.
But if it has no love for Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and it if it does
not yearn for Allah,
then that heart
loses all its value. So this is what
he says. The next thing he talks about
is the body in itself.
The body
is such an amazing creation of Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Scientists are discovering the, you know, the nuances
of the body. And they're talking about how
amazing of a construct this is. But all
of this is from who? From Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala. This body is a gift. It
has so many things that it can benefit
us with.
But the body can become useless
when?
Ibn Qayyim says,
when the body does not engage
in the worship of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Meaning that going back to what I said
earlier,
if we use all of our faculties
in the wrong way, if we use our
faculties to not worship Allah, then this body
becomes absolutely useless to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
So Ibrahim Ghazali
he gave a very beautiful example and I
may have shared this before in the past.
That imagine if there was a king who
gave his one of his servants a very
nice gift. For example, gave him a horse.
And he uses that horse and he says,
jazakumullahqir
king. May Allah reward you, bless you and
so forth. And he takes that horse and
he uses for his own benefit. And he
does not care about the king. Okay. He
does not care about the king. Then, Ibra
ibn Zakayi says,
this is like any ordinary person.
But he says that, imagine
if the king gave one of his servants
a horse.
And he says to the king
that, I am going to use this horse
to carry out your commands.
Whatever you tell me to do, I will
do exactly that. This horse is only good
to me because of you.
That is what, Imam Ghazal alhamdulillahi
says, This is like the believer. The believer
has been given the body by Allah Subh'anaHu
Wa Ta A'la but the believer is telling
Allah
that, You Allah,
I will use these eyes
only for your worship and I will make
sure I stay away from anything
that displeases you. Same thing with my ears,
same thing with my hands, same thing with
my feet. I will not use these feet
as we use these feet to can to
get from point a to point b. I
will not use these feet to go to
the places that causes your displeasure. I will
not go to these places
that will commit haram and that will make
me commit haram. So this is what the
body is, brothers and sisters. And SubhanAllah,
there are so many blessings of the body.
I share this every single nikah ceremony. And
many of the nikah ceremonies I share, I
shared the story that I came across a
nurse, and she was talking about her husband
when he got COVID early on and he
lost his ability to taste. It was a
common,
symptom of COVID,
but he never was able to regain
his ability to taste. Think about it. This
one tongue that you and I we use.
Think about without the tongue,
you and I we cannot even communicate with
each other.
Without this tongue and without its abilities,
you and I we cannot enjoy
the greatest one of the greatest pleasures of
life which is food. When food is one
of the greatest pleasures of life. This one
tongue has so many benefits in it. But
we ask ourselves, this one tongue, how often
do we use it
in the displeasure of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
to commit haram. You understand? The point is
that every single limb of the body
has to be used in the correct way,
in the way that is pleasing to Allah
and his prophet
The next thing he talks about is
that time.
He says time Of course, we all know
that time is very precious.
But he says that time can become useless
if it is used to do things or
acquire things
that is not beneficial in this duniya or
in the akhirah. And this is something that's
highlighted in the Quran. Allah says,
Then what?
1 of the signs of a true believer
is that they stay away. They they do
not waste their times
engaging in things that are not gonna be
beneficial in this dunya or in the akhirah.
And there are many things like this that,
subhanAllah, that can waste our time. Now, yes,
I will say that is it's important that
even if we might waste a time here
and there, but we don't make it into
a habit. You understand? We don't make it
into a habit. And there are many things.
For example, sitting down and watching a sporting
event. Okay? Sitting down, watching a sporting event
for 4 or 5 hours,
okay, is Allahu. And many of us, including
myself, we are engaged in these kind of
things. But the point is that for example,
even if you're doing something like that, when
the time of salal comes, you get up
and you pray your salah. That's the key
thing. We cannot use the let these things
that are considered as Allahu
get between us and our akhirah, between us
and Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta'ala. So Ibn Qayyim
says that time is a commodity
but if it is not used properly
and it is used in Allahu
or it is used in running after people
and things
instead of running after Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
then that time loses all its value and
hence that time becomes now what?
Useless.
So these are thing few things that we
need to understand
that these things in itself, they have intrinsic
value in them. But if it is not
used properly, they're not utilized in the right
way, it can lose all of its value.
I ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to grant
all of us the tawfiq to utilize every
single blessing He has given us in our
life, to use it the correct way. And
may Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala forgive us if
we have misused any of these things, any
of these blessings of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
