in the companionship of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and his Sahaba Amin Yarrabah aalameen.
Brothers and sisters this past Monday. I stood up here and I talked about a very important topic that we all need to hear about. And as soon as I gave
at small talk, and I didn't mention that there will be a part two to this. There are many people in that congregation who said that, Imam, this is not a hot topic, this has to be addressed from the pulpit. This, this issue, this concern needs to be addressed in a heartbeat. And please address this matter in a hotbar so that the entire community can hear about this matter.
I asked all of you a question.
After World War Two,
when there was so many millions of Jews who lost their lives, there were exterminated.
They said there and the ask themselves, what can we do going forward to ensure that we're never again in this position.
And I think that it's about time that we as Muslims,
and I want everyone to hear this hook by very carefully. If you're sitting on your phones, don't sit on your phones, you're not supposed to be sitting on your phones in the hood. But to begin with, and this is a football that's not only for the adults is for the youth also, especially for the youth.
I ask all of us here, we're looking at what's happening in Gaza right now.
And we need to ask ourselves a very important question.
How do we get here as a Muslim Ummah, we're no matter how many people there are, and how many Muslims there are on earth.
We are, our brothers and sisters are going through so much over their children are going through so much over there. And we're in a position that we can't even do anything to do it. We can do anything about it, we can do anything to change your circumstances.
How can we ensure as a Muslim community that we never ever find ourselves in this situation?
Now, let me be very clear about this. Because a lot of times, there's only so much you can mention in a hotbar, you only have half an hour. And if you leave the slightest thing out, then someone's gonna come to you over the hotbar and say, Well, you left this out and you left this out and you left this out, you want me to cover this entire topic, sit down with me for three, four hours. And we'll cover this entire topic from beginning to end. But there's only so much I can cover. There are three things today that we need to take very seriously. If we want to change our condition. We want to make sure that we have a different future and this country or any other country
because once again, the question is, how do we make sure that we're never in this situation again?
The very first thing brothers and sisters,
is that we need to take very seriously our education.
And when we talk about education, we have to first of all understand the importance of education from a Quran and Sunnah perspective.
First of all, is when Allah subhanho wa Taala wanted to eliminate ignorance on earth, when he wanted to bring light to the hearts and the minds of people. What's the very first thing that he did? What's the first word that he said to the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam, he said, Icaro read,
read. If you were to study the first five Iots that were revealed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and you were to summarize all those five Ayat into one word, just one word. It would be knowledge and education.
Allah taught the importance of reading. And I ask all of you first of all here and ask myself, and this is a this is a question that we need to ask ourselves. How much do you and I we read this not just reading the Quran and the Sunnah. Reading in itself is very powerful. Today, majority of our youth they do, there is no reading. They hardly read. And because of this, our educational acumen is very, very depleted. I'm not going to sugarcoat my words, I'm going to call it out the way it needs to be called out.
Our education in the Muslim community, compared to other religious communities is extremely low. It starts off with reading, we don't read.
All we do as youth today, and many adults as we do today, instead of reading we sit on tick tock and Instagram. And that's how we spend our time. Yes, education can be achieved through YouTube, but ultimately education
comes to reading. They say that you read today and you become a leader tomorrow. Today's readers are tomorrow's leaders. We don't read at all. We need to learn how to read. And every one of us we have a passion, we are into something we find, we find a passion in some particular topic, read about that topic. If you're into medicine and read about medicine, if you're into inventions, read about inventions, if you're into entrepreneurship, read about entrepreneurship. But we as a Muslim community, we don't read brothers and sisters, knowledge and education was a very first focus of the very first one he sent to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. And if you think that was enough,
no, after the Battle of badam
when there were prisoners of war, there were people who were bringing jewelry to free them as ransom using it as ransom the Prophet alayhi salam from some he took jewelry as ransom. But for some, he knew that they knew how to read and write. And he saw that there was some of his Sahaba, who did not know how to read and write. He said, You have to educate my Sahaba teach them how to read and write.
And not only that, as Muslims progressed, go and study the abovesaid dynasty, there was a time where people from all over the world, from Europe, from Africa, they were coming from from the east side, they were coming where to Baghdad, but that became the educational hub for the entire world. Who was that it was the Muslims who established something like this. And you can go and read about it. It's called the House of Wisdom is found even on Amazon, you can actually buy his book called The House of Wisdom, you can go read about it. But the point is, when it came to education, the Muslims, the Muslim world was considered as the knowledge and intellectual capital of the world.
Brothers and sisters, that is how they got to such a standard. That is why the Muslims the Hatter is this is why there was no one who would mess with the Muslims, because they had education on their side.
And then came the depletion of education. Then came when when Tatara came. And when when Ganges Han came into Baghdad, he knew that the Muslims were powerful because of their intellect. What did he do, he destroyed the libraries, he destroyed the educational resources of the Muslims, and when bogged down was ransacked, by the title, all their books, and the libraries were thrown into the rivers, that the rivers and the color of the river became black and remained black for so many months. Because of the ink from the books, brothers and sisters, we need to take education very seriously. If you look at the Jewish community,
there was a book that was written is called the Jewish phenomenon, you can go and find out Amazon,
the very first thing that they realized after World War Two in order for us to gain prominence in the world, the focus on education.
Now, let me tell you what our problem is.
And when I say our problem, there are many people who are trying to solve this problem. But when it comes to education, there are few things that we have to keep in mind. Number one is, many of us are earning an education. Because we just want to live by we want to live through our education. We are learning to live. You know what that means? It means that I'm just getting an education because I can take care of my family. So I can put food on the table for my family. I can provide a shelter over my family's head. Because when we were kids, we were always taught the same thing, right? We were taught the same things.
And I heard this so many times. And I'm gonna say this in order because many of you probably heard this.
Get the green a milega. To call your pillared keeping a guy named Parag a two degree numaligarh degree numaligarh to call your blood kini Vega. We heard this so many times, you don't have an education, you're not going to get a degree, you're not going to have a job, no one's going to give you their daughter's hand in marriage to you.
And so we were taught from when we were kids, you have to get an education so you can earn an income. That's called learning to live. Let me give you a different approach. We have to live to learn.
That's the approach. Live to learn means I'm living my life, but to learn and to impact my society.
to impact the life of others, that's not where we are today. How many of us today when we are getting our education in college or in university, how many of us are actually thinking that I'm getting this education? And yes, I will use this to earn an income. Yes, I will use this to take care of my family. But at the same time, I need to make a difference. I need to leave behind the legacy. That's not our thought process nowadays, all of us are thinking we need to learn to live. And we got to change that mindset brothers and sisters.
Today, many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and our youth are not taking education very seriously. I came across many youth. And I asked them, What is your what is your goal of education, I just said, I just want to get a bachelor's, why you want to get a bachelor's only, why not a master's? Why not a PhD, because that's all I need to take care of my family. You see, that's the problem that we have, the family will be taken care of. But that's not why we get an education. We live today in a society where you have those who are the educational and intellectual elite. They don't care about what's being said on social media. Because on social media, when you pick up and
you open up Instagram, or Tik Tok, you will find many videos where people are saying that don't get it don't get a college degree, don't get an education. Do we see that there are TV shows where they are showing those who are the intellectual as nerds. And everyone's making fun of them that look at that he's a nerd, he's a nerd, he's a nerd. Or she's a nerd, right? That's what's being happening. What we're doing is that we're seeing a culture, we're seeing a system that is that our kids in our youth are being indoctrinated with. And that is that education is not important. And if you get an education, you're considered as a nerd. And I don't want to be considered as a nerd. So why, instead
of that, rather remain just I rather remain ignorant. I don't want to go and get an education.
This is this. This is what social media and entertainment is doing. And many, many shows that we find like this on television, brothers and sisters, those who are the intellects. They don't care about what's being said on social media, because they know that Allah subhanho wa Taala says, polyester will lead you to Yala moon, well, loving Allah, Allah moon, these two people can never be equal, one who has education, and the other one who has no education, they cannot be equal.
Brothers and sisters, especially our youth,
don't spend four or five hours a day on social media.
You're spending four to five hours, whether it's Instagram, tik, Tok, YouTube, whatever it is entertaining yourself for five hours a day. And there is absolutely no reading that is taking place will lie, we don't have a future. I'm telling you, honestly, we don't have a future. When you look at our Muslim community compared to the Hindu community, right now as it is. If you look at the statistics, I have the statistics here for you. Because you say in English numbers don't lie. If you look at the Hindu community right now, 31% of the Hindu community, they get their master's degree, and 39 to 40% of the Hindu community org are achieving their PhDs.
On top of that, besides that the Jewish community 28 to 30% of their community are getting their master's degrees, and almost 35% are getting their PhDs. Now, once again, numbers you will find different numbers online. But these are numbers that are mentioned on very reliable resources, very reliable websites. And when you look at our Muslim community, only 15 to 16% are actually completing their master's degree.
And you know, how many are completing their PhD, close to only 1413 to 14% of our Muslim community are finishing your PhD?
Brothers and sisters, these are true numbers. This is what's happening to us. Why are we only stuck on this getting a bachelor's, get a Master's, get a PhD, when so many Muslims in our community will get PhDs and then you start contributing to the community, then you start having higher positions will lie as Muslims will be taken a little more seriously. Once again, I'm not saying that of course, religion comes above everything we need to maintain our religion. I'm not saying at the expense of our religion, we need to maintain our religion, but at the same time, brothers and sisters when we see their communities and when we look at our communities, if you were to study the
amount of people who are graduating the most intellectual communities based on religion, first of all is the Hindu community number two is
The Jewish community. And when you look at the Muslim community, we come at around 17, or 18. That's where we are in terms of our education. We need to push education forward. We need to push education forward. When you look at all these fortune 500 companies and their CEOs, yes, there are Muslim CEOs, I'm not gonna deny that there are some Muslim CEOs, but not in the Fortune 500. Now you that one area that was heavily dominated by white men, whether Christian or Jewish men, white men, now you're starting to see Hindus coming into the picture. You know why they're there? Because they took their education very seriously. I'm not I'm not just making this up. They took their education
seriously. And there was a generation decades of decades of people, they took their education seriously. And right now you go into the Hindu community, every time you turn on social media, and there is anything to do with with a spelling bee is always a Hindu child. You know this? Why not our Muslim children? Why can we not push for our own Muslim children? Why can our parents parents push your children forward? Yes, they may lose us fine. But we need to put that pressure on our kids.
We need to take our education very seriously, brothers and sisters, because with a lack of education, is going to cause you to have restricted opportunities in life, you're not going to have many opportunities in life, to be honest, when you have a lack of education, this is going to cause a lack of opportunities and resources. And when you have absolutely nothing, then you cannot give back to the society. You don't even understand what's going on in your community. And overall, we are declining as Omar, I'm not saying that we don't have intellectuals, but there are very, very few. So here's my advice to all of you who are studying right now, if you're becoming a doctor,
don't have the knee the I'm just becoming a doctor, take care of my family. No, I'm becoming a doctor so that I can impact my society. If you are becoming an entrepreneur, you become an entrepreneur to benefit Islam, gotta have a bigger mind, have a bigger mind have bigger goals, this is what we need today.
The next thing, so the very first thing is education. The second thing, brother and sister that we need to take very seriously, is our commitment to civic engagement. What is civic engagement, you may ask, first of all, is civic engagement could be political engagement, civic engagement could be standing up for justice in your community. Civic engagement could mean being part of your community, understanding the issues of our community, and then coming up with solutions to make a difference. And by the way, there is an example of this in the seed of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, even before the Prophet became a prophet, he stood up for civic engagement. He was involved in his
community. When a man came and He was oppressed, the incident of a healthful food will go back and study it, go back and study it in the seat of the prophets of Salaam. It's there, where the poverty is some stood up for someone else's rights. He stood up for someone else's rights. And he made a difference. And later on in his life, he will recall it that I was part of that helpful for those brothers and sisters today. We're not civically engaged. Just going and voting is not only what is important, yes, voting, I'm not talking about national voting I'm talking about for your own city. And by the way, I want to make this also very clear, many of us as Muslims, were very quick in
judging and we're very quick and complaining, I'm sorry to say, we can complain. And mashallah we have if there's one thing that we have a PhD and is complaining, okay, we are mashallah amazing complainers. Okay, we are experts. Okay. And it's just like, it's like almost like part of our DNA almost, you know.
But the reality is,
that many times we sit here and we say about what is going on, oh, the city needs to do this. The city needs to do this. And so you need to do this and so forth. Let me tell you because you may not know the numbers. If you want a seat at the at the table here on a city level.
You know how many votes people need? You need like probably four to 5000 votes to win a seat at the table.
Yet, when it comes to issues like this that we are in right now in Gaza, what's happening was our Muslim community members are flooding the city halls. Whether it's Irving whether it's Dallas, whether it's, you know, Tarrant County, whether it's Collin County, whether it's Plano there are Muslims
Yesterday in McKinney also, there are flooding the city halls, that we need a ceasefire. We need a ceasefire. We need the the mayor and the city officials to come forward and speak about this and so forth. But I asked you a simple question. Do you think it's really that hard to get a seat at the table? Do you think is that hard to be part of the community? It's not.
If you just even take into consideration there were there was, there are political analysis and our analysts here in our community, Muslim and non Muslim, they have told us that if you Muslims, just even four or 5000 people come and you vote in the city wide elections, just city wide elections, you can make a difference. In fact, you can flip, you can flip the voting completely. You can make you can determine the outcome.
Yet you and I, we're not even that civically engaged, that we feel like Voting is important. And yet when the time comes to complain, we're the very first people to complain.
You and I, we do have the power. Just like right now when the visa situation took place. How many people were talking about social media was talking about boycotting boycotting both boycotting and so forth. And so many people, Muslims and non Muslims, they began to engage in the boycotting, and so many people took it seriously. And we saw the effects of the boycott, we saw it. Muslims, I'm telling you right now, we do have the power to make an impact in our community. But the ones who are not willing to even stand up and just come and vote are we we are the ones who are stepping in our own way. We are the ones who are in our own way, we can make a difference in the community. When it
comes to social justice. We need to stand up for everyone just like Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did when it comes to our city, even just right now, recently, there was a voting that took place. It's not about any person, it's just city ordinances. That's it, that this is how we're going to use the money. We talk about our money being used in Gaza, against our own Muslim brothers and sisters. And yet at the same time, we don't realize that our money when we pay taxes to our city, they use that money in different ways to and in ways that it may not be even appropriate. But yet you and I are so ignorant about the things are going on in our city, that when the time came to
vote, instead of even trying to understand what the city ordinances are, we're going to people in the community, please can you just send me a list? Just send me a list on WhatsApp, send me a list on a text message. And we're sitting there and try to memorize it. Question number one, yes. Question number two, no question three, yes. And we're just going in there, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, Tap, Tap. That's not singing. That's not civic engagement. That's you showing that you don't have any care, the only thing you worry about, the only thing we worry about is just taking care of our family. Brothers Sisters does not want to sue us so long why Islam did if we want to make an impact,
we as Muslims, we have that much power, we have that many people in our population, that we can swing elections. Keep that in mind. Next time, when there's a situation, there are Muslim brothers or sisters of our community who have lost votes by by probably 1000 2000 people, we don't have one or 2000 people in our Muslim community. Of course we do. But once again, we have to take the action.
And finally, so we have to take our education very seriously. We have to be engaged civically engaged. And the last thing that we need to do today, that is very important
is engagement in social services.
Now, look, let me make this very clear. When we talk about social services. It means helping other people out
and doing something or creating organizations that can help other people out. How many special needs organizations do we have organizations that are catering to special needs? We have very few.
How many organizations do we have? Or how many senior livings do we have that are operated by Muslims? Hardly any? Hardly any. We talk about numbers. We talk about money. But we don't have any of these kinds of things. How many? How many of you know 100 There are charitable organizations. And yes, they're doing work in a certain capacity. They're doing work in a certain capacity. But at the same time, we have to do more. We have to do more to the point that we are making a difference on a state level. Tomorrow in sha Allah, there's a chef who is going to be here tomorrow. He's from an organization in California, where he's he's engaged in social services is called El Miss Basha.
Yasser Han is going to be here tomorrow in sha Allah. But he is not just doing social services on a lower scale. He is doing social services on a level that now the state of California is recognizing his efforts. You and I we need to make a statewide impact. We do have the power
Our we do have the ability. I go around and I see a Methodist Hospital. I go around and I see a Presbyterian Hospital. You go to New York, and many other places around the nation and you will find Jewish hospitals, many Jewish hospitals, I challenged the doctors and the physicians of our community. Where is the Islamic inspired hospital? You don't have the funds, I can guarantee you you have the resources. There are so many hundreds and 1000s of physicians and doctors. Why can we not have an Islamic inspired mental institution? Why can we not have an Islamic inspired hospitals? That is making a difference in your community? We don't have those things. Do we have the resources? Yes,
we have the resources? Do we have the manpower? Yes, we have the manpower? Yes, we might have to work a little hard. But you're telling me that these other religious communities, they just it happened overnight? No, you come together, and you think together, and then you come up with these kinds of things. So three things we got to take, we got to make sure that we got we got to take these things very seriously. Number one is education. Number two is civic engagement. And number three is social services. Wallahi brothers sisters, I tell you this much.
If these are three areas that for the next not one week, or one year, for the next decades,
if we can take these areas very seriously. Okay. And we have more and more people in our community who are graduating with PhDs, and now they have higher positions and so forth, will lie this will change the outlook of Muslims. This will change the outlook of Muslims, we will no longer be pushed over. People cannot just walk right over us because we see right now that with the we see that how the Jewish community has controlled everything. And now they can do whatever they want. The point I'm trying to make is that they do not get over there overnight. I'm not saying that this is the only focus but these are the focuses that we need to truly care about. Focus on these areas, and you
will see a difference if not today. 20 years later, 30 years later, 40 years later, Well lucky. I stand here and I'd say you will see a difference inshallah I ask Allah subhana wa Tada to give all this Tofik about what has been said May Allah subhanho wa Taala grant us the ability to understand these things and apply them in the best way possible. I mean, it'll be the enemy and Bartok alone and I welcome Philippa and all them when I found out what he cannot do with Victor Hakeem Estelle Allah. How are you welcome, wayside. mizuna, first off, you know in order for him

When it's done, I'm humbled and I will do what I sue my bad. Finally, I'm going to say this within Sisters is that
many times you might feel that there is something special about yourself. But there's going to be other people. And sometimes unfortunately, it can be parents. Sometimes it can be someone else, it could be your friend, and so forth. If you feel like that you can make a difference in the community. If you feel like you can make a change and have a bigger impact. Do not ever let that passion go away. Talk to someone who's going to have respect for your values. Okay, if you want to get a PhD, then talk to someone who has a PhD and they will tell you just recently I met one of our own youth of our community who have known for such a long time. He finished his PhD and now he's
telling me that how many opportunities opening for him. We have we can do it, but we just got to take it very seriously. And of course, more than that, we always ask Allah subhanho wa Taala for Tofig to grant us more Tofik and to do these kinds of things in sha Allah immunoblotted Amin along with someone Muslimeen Allah who was someone must have enough equally makan Allahumma sunnah Allah man holla Vanna White formula dinner was the holiday dinner was femur vana wa female with Alana Warham Mota Anna will hold the ad in Isla Cooley high while tsunami coalition waffle Nam included Lloyd Aloha moccasin Anamika sciatica Mata holo BB BB and that will be in a Marcia take I mean
