And I bear witness to Muhammad sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam, the seal of 2 prophets and
the final messenger to all humanity.
Today is the day of Jum'ah, this day
in the week.
And this is the month of Ramadan, this
month in the year. And tonight,
most likely, is later to cut the best
night in the whole year. So this is
the best day, one of the best days
in the whole year.
And we ask Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, to
accept our salah, our fasting, our charities in
this month.
They
almost all the masajid, if not all of
them, in North America and Europe,
they collect donations today
to provide for the masajid all year long.
Not only in the masajid,
but the other places of worship in in
the west, they depend or rely heavily on
donations.
The masajid back home, all of us know,
they rely on the money contributed by the
Ministry of Alqaf or by the Muslim governments.
But here in Canada, here in the west,
all the masajid depend on Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala first and
then on the generosity of the Muslim community.
So please do your best today in this
blessed day to contribute to the house of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, and Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala will reward you immensely
for your contributions.
We mentioned in the past few days that
the prophet was the 1st
person in Islam to fundraise
for good causes, and he fundraised for the
masjid.
So the prophet
did actually fundraise for the masjid, and he
said the masjid was getting very tight, very
small for the Muslim, the expanding Muslim community.
So he said, who would buy the land
next to the masjid and expand it? And
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will give him a
better land in Jannah.
So
Uthman
he bought the land.
Allah to provide for the harvest of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
So to today, I will try to answer
only 3 questions
related to fundraising for the
So the first question for today, how can
I give money to the Masjid? Although,
you probably know about the situation back home
in all the countries,
and many of us come from these countries,
Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Libya, Syria, and so on
and so forth. And most of us, and
Somalia, most of us have given our contributions
and Zakat to these countries.
So how can I give, although I have
already given my Zakat? Or if you haven't
given, maybe because of the economic crisis, things
are very limited for you, and you're not
feeling well about the whole thing.
To the contrary, it will increase.
This is a promise from Allah
This is a promise from the from Rasulullah
alaihi wa sallam. So don't be afraid. If
things are very tight for you, don't worry
because Allah is the provider.
Allah
is
the
provider.
The highest form of generosity in Islam is
to give while your resources are limited. Ayna
had that.
So a man came to the prophet and
says, oh, prophet of Allah, in this authentic
hadith al Bukhari narrated by Abu Buhayla, a
man came to the prophet
and says, what is the bestaka and what
is the best salafah?
So the prophet
says that the best form of charity
is when you give while you are healthy,
you are in need, your resources are limited,
and you hope to live a long life.
And in another narration, you hope to become
rich, and you are afraid of poverty.
And the prophet
then said, don't wait
until you are about to die with 2
feet in the grave. On your deathbed, you
then you start saying, okay. This money is
for this. This money is for the masheb.
This money is for this. No. You have
to give it before that time. Fahaalafhadithinabi
saasam. Wal kaleelu aindaka
katheeru aindallah.
The letter you give is allot
in the eyes of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, promises in Surat Al
Baqarah that for every dollar you give, it
will give you up to 10, up to
700, and Allah gives more to whom He
wants.
If you give a dollar to Allah, Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala, who will give you 700,
Well, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala gives more to
whom He wills.
So in this story
that was shown in the Egyptian TV about
they had a program, a very famous program
in the Egyptian, TV. It's called My House
is Your House. Miqasa is sukasa.
So in this show, they have a segment
where they collect donations for someone who is
in need. So someone called and said, I
have a problem in my back,
with his spinal cord. He needed a marrow
transplant.
Zara'il kha.
So the the funds started to,
come in. People called and they pledged
1,000 of dollars, and they needed to collect
$200,000
for this man, for his, surgery.
So one person
one person, after 1 hour, they collected about
a 170,000
in 1 hour.
So this person called in, his name was
Sharif, and he said, well, I'm so
embarrassed to call. But the only thing I
can offer to this brother, Elid, is 15
Egyptian pounds. This is 2 and half Canadian
dollars.
And he said, but, allah, this is half
the money I have in my house. I
have only $5
in my house.
And my mother is sick, and we haven't
even paid our power bill.
But that is all I can do for
the brother. And Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, is
generous.
Almost all the people who called after this
brother, they contributed something to the sick brother,
and they contributed something to this brother, Sharif,
and he got a job that day. Someone
called and said, I'll give this brother a
job because he was not employed.
So don't be afraid. Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala,
will provide for you.
Allah
says that the recipients of zakah are 8,
and they are mentioned in ayah 60 in
Surah Tawbah, Surah Nurbanay.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala refers to one
recipient as fisabililah
in the way of Allah.
So spending in the way of Allah covers
any way of goodness.
Any way that you provide for any good
cause is,
one of the recipients
of Zakat in this case. And this is
the opinion of many scholars, like Afafar Ghazi
ibn Athir and some of the modern scholars,
like Sheikh Shatud, the Sheikh of Al Azwa,
the former Sheikh, and the former Mufti
of, Egypt, Sheikh Mafluf, and many other scholars.
Even the scholars who limited this recipient,
Fisabeel that, they to shihad, they said, building
the sajid in the West, in Canada, is
shihad.
Teaching your children Islam
and helping them to prove, to preserve their
Islamic identity is in the West is jihad.
Making dua to the people, presenting Islam to
them, helping them to accept Islam is jihad.
In this masjid, every month, average, 3 to
4 people accept Islam. And there are some
of them who accepted Islam recently. They're among
us today.
So the third question for today somebody might
ask, okay. I have this agreement
with the way the masjid is run. I
don't like the administration of the masjid, or
I have this agreement with someone in the
masjid, in the board. I don't like this
person. Whether you disagree with something they said
or something they did, or maybe you don't
like their haircut. Any reason.
Should you still go ahead and give zakat
to the masjid?
My answer is you are giving zakat to
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and to the house
of Allah. Forget about the people.
You are dealing with Allah
When you gave the zakah, you give it
to Allah
not to the people.
In this authentic hadith collected by Bukhari narrated
by Abu Burei radiallahu anhu that the prophet
says, a man says, tonight,
I'm gonna give zakam or sadaqa fee saberillah.
So when he went out in the darkness,
he gave money to the first person he
met. And it turned out to be that
the the person whom he gave the money
was a thief, Tuk,
in Sumal.
So
the people in the morning, they were saying,
okay. Last night, somebody gave zakah to a
thief.
So the man was saying, laha lam. My
I lost my zakah. I lost my salah.
I will do it tonight again. So the
next night,
he went out. In the darkness, he gave
it to a lady, and it turned out
to be this lady to be a prostitute.
In the morning, they people were saying, tonight,
somebody gave a charity to a prostitute.
So the man said,
My my salafaith got another time.
The 3rd day, he went out in the
darkness and he gave the money, and it
turned out that the person whom whom he
gave the money was a rich person. He
didn't need the zakat. So in the morning,
people were saying, somebody gave zakat to a
rich person.
He said, laha marbu. The money zakah is
lost in the 3 nights. The prophet, salaam,
says that a war is guaranteed.
You didn't put the money in the hands
of a prostitute.
You didn't put the money in the hands
of a tomb or a thief. You didn't
put the hands the money in the hands
of a rich person. You put the money
in the hands of Allah,
and this is what matters.
So tonight, I expect, and I make dua
to Allah
that each and every one of us,
man or
woman, boy or girl, come to the fundraiser
and pledge something, kisabeel, and that this is
what will remain for us in the next
life, and this is what will take us
to Jannah, as the prophet says in Hadith.
