And I bare witness that Muhammad Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala is the seal of the prophets and
the final messenger to all of humanity.
Whoever Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala guides, there is
none to misguide. And whoever Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala leaves astray, there is none to guide
our life.
So Ramadan inshaAllah will arrive soon. So we
ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to give us
the life, the strength to fast in this
month in a way that is pleasing to
him. Ameen Ameen.
So last time we spoke about the Sahaba
of Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
and we mentioned that they should be a
role model for us. Not Sayali, Miley Cyrus,
not Justin Bieber, for our kids at least.
So we should learn about them. We should
learn from their generosity, their sacrifices for the
community, and for Islam,
and we should learn from their dedication to
Muhammad salallahu alaihi wa sallam.
And I mentioned that the prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam calls us his brothers in the
authentic hadith, insayi Muslim, and he loves us,
and he misses us in that hadith.
And the sahaba said, how do you know
them? He says, there are people who will
believe in me,
whether they are born and raised Muslim or
they accepted Islam, and they believe in me
without seeing me. And the sahaba said, You
Rasulullah,
how will you recognize them on the Day
of Judgment? He said, They will come with
nur on their faces, with light on their
faces because of Udhu.
This is how Muhammad salaam alayhi wa sallam
recognizes.
And the Sahaba
had the honor of accompanying Muhammad salaam.
They saw
him, and they saw him, his akhlaq, and
his mannerisms,
and they saw his generosity.
They saw the marjizzat.
We didn't see any of that. You never
saw the moon splitting like some of the
Sahaba.
You never saw the beautiful face of Muhammad
sahaba sallam. You never saw the akhlaq of
Muhammad sahaba sallam. Yes. We read about it
in the books, but it is nothing like
seeing him and knowing him in person and
interacting with him. We didn't get the chance
to do that.
Some of the sahaba accepted Islam, as we
said last time, because of the generosity, iqram,
of Muhammad salallahu alayhi.
Has anyone of you received a check-in the
mail?
Never happened. Right? But we believed in Muhammad
salallahu alayhi wa sallam out of love
for him in our hearts, salallahu alaihi wa
sallam. And this is why Muhammad salallahu alaihi
wa sallam calls us our bro his brothers.
So insha'Allah, today we'll talk about
the 3 techniques, the 3 things that the
Sahaba did to be the best, and we
can walk in their footsteps and learn from
them if you want to maximize your Hasalat
in Ramadan InshaAllah.
But before I speak about the three qualities
that we can do to maximize our hasalat
in the month of Ramadan and in the
rest of our lives, I'm gonna mention some
examples
of some of our brothers and sisters, because
we always say that if you listen to
some of the khalifs, they say that that
the Sahaba were good,
which is true, and there's nothing good about
us.
This is not true. There are so many
good people among us. So the first example
is an example of a Muslim family
that immigrated to Canada. They came from Egypt
or came from Pakistan, they came from Turkey,
to give a good life for their children.
So they can live
in in this democratic
society.
So they can provide opportunities for their kids.
And,
most importantly,
so they can practice is Islam.
You know, many years back in some Muslim
countries, you can't go to school with hijab
on. A Muslim country,
99% of the people are Muslim, but you
can't go to school with hijab on.
Some Muslims, if they catch you walking in
the street
with your beard on, you are going to
jail, 1st class.
In some Muslim countries, one in particular,
I'm not gonna mention the name of the
country, but it's it's in North Africa.
If you want to go for, salahatul taraweed,
you need a permit, Tasleh min al kukumma,
just to go and pray in the Masjid.
And you can't just go to any Masjid
you want, you have to go to the
Masjid closest to you.
And if you lose your permit, or you
miss your permit, and you lose it, or
you leave it at home, you can't pray
Talwet because you have to do the kar
before you go to inside the Masjid.
And they say that the imam has to
report those who don't come with their Tasrieb,
with their permit.
And this is a 99%
majority Muslim country. This is nonsense.
Joshua Nchorim cannot ask you to get a
permit to come to for Tarweh in the
masjid.
He cannot stop you from wearing a beard.
He cannot stop the sisters from wearing hijab.
You can sue him actually. Right? And we
can cost him an election. But back home,
they don't need your elections. Even if the
whole country votes against the guy,
he will win. He doesn't need your votes.
He came on the back of the tank.
He doesn't need you. Right? So here, it's
totally different. You call it a kafir country,
but they treat us with the Aflaq of
Islam. Do you see what they did did
to our Syrian brothers and sisters? They received
them, just in trial, received them in the
at the airport.
They helped them in a way that most
Muslim countries had not done.
So in the meantime, we thank this country
for welcoming Muslims, providing them with the care
and the the attention they deserve. We're also
questioning
the brotherhood of some Muslims that do not
provide the same care and the same attention
to Muslims. So this con this,
family comes here,
Alhamdulillah, they arrive here,
and, yes, they need to learn English. They
need to get an equivalency. If they're a
doctor or engineer, they have a long way
to go several years be before they can
make an income.
But they don't get involved in Haram.
They don't make their money in Haram way,
so parallel.
So they they are good. Listen for all
of us. So
this is an embodiment of the example of
Sahaba who made Hijra from Makkah to Madinah,
so they can live a dignified life, so
they can practice their Islam. No one can
stop them, and this is why they came
here. So this is a good example like
the Sahaba.
There is the example of the Muslim brothers
and sisters who go to colleges here.
I I work as a chaplain at Brock
University,
and I visited many campuses throughout the country
and in the US. And summertime wintertime,
maybe. But summertime,
you don't know how the ladies there are
dressed in the summertime. The stipes and the
shorts, and it's crazy. Even married people who
go there, there's fire inside.
You know, it's it's very difficult.
So this is why the brothers especially the
brothers who go there, and they're able to
control themselves,
and they're able to succeed. This is like
Sa'aba.
This is a big struggle for them.
They go there in Ramadan time, you know,
the the shores and the tides and water,
and Tim Hortons are everywhere. People are eating
and drinking, and you're walking there.
Right? But you are patient. You do it
out of love for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
You do it out of for love of
love for Muhammad salallahu alaihi wa sallallahu alaihi
wa sallallahu alaihi.
I'm not gonna mention his name.
He was at one of those campuses, and
a girl came to him,
and she said, you know, all your non
Muslim friends, whatever, they're dating. Why are you
not dating? And she offered herself, and she
said, I wanna be with you.
He said, Inni
He says, I have fear of Allah in
my heart. And he he kicked out of
her out of the room. Right? And this
is a Muslim brother. Just like the Sahaba,
like Yusuf Alaihi Salamis Surah Yusuf. He did
exactly the same thing. So this is a
good Muslim. SubhanAllah.
When you walk outside today,
and you see the heat outside,
everything is melting outside, and it gotta get
worse. We're still May. Wait till June. Right?
So when you feel the heat,
remember your Muslim sisters.
They have to wear the hijab. Yes. They
do it out of love.
Winter time is okay, but summer time, it's
very hot. And some of those hijabs, she
has to wear some layers, and it's very
hot, and it is difficult.
So she is doing this in Dunya despite
all the heat outside
to protect herself from the heat of Agha
on the day of judgment.
So we should be appreciative of these sisters,
and we should make dua that Allah will
make it easy for them.
Sometimes
I think, wallah, we should wear your kufi
one day when you go outside.
And I'm saying that the heat is not
the biggest challenge for the Muslim sisters, but
the racist
and Islamophobic
people out there who target our Muslim sisters
because they know.
Muslim brothers,
whether you have a beard or not, no
one we can identify you as Muslim because
many people have beards, even non Muslims have
beards.
But hijab
Muslim sisters are the only people walking around
with the hijab, with the exception of the
Christian nuns, which are a tiny minority. Right?
So some of them become target for hate
speech
and for hate crimes. We hear stories here
in Canada and mostly in the US, some
in in Europe some somewhere.
So our sisters are going through a lot
of struggles. So we need to make dua
for them that Allah will give them the
reward, and Allah will make it easy for
them. Ameen Abiyan. So this is another example
of some Muslim who is struggling
because of their faith.
And I hope that Muhammad salAllahu alaihi wa
sallam will make Shafa'a for them and Allah
will give them at firdaus sala Allah because
they are good Muslims. We hope that Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will reward them immensely.
I remember the example of a Palestinian sister
from Gaza.
A few years ago,
this particular sister is a widow. She lost
her husband. She has, like, 5, 6 kids.
Was one day in Ramadan, and she hosted
a sister,
Lauren Booth. Remember the name. Lauren Booth.
It's dark time.
Lauren Booth came inside the house, and she's
telling this story. She says there was no
furniture in the house. We have to sit
on the floor. The house was empty,
and the walls were empty. There's nothing there.
People sleep on the floor.
And you know how generous our Palestinian brothers
and sisters are. So they brought everything in
the house for the guests,
which was some bread,
some za'atar,
time,
and some oil.
That's it. Maybe some tea. That's it. And
Lauren Booth was very mad.
And she said, how come you are suffering
like this? And she said, Alhamdulillah, we are
grateful to Allah because we have a roof.
We know some homeless people who have no
roof. We have bread. We have oil. We
have tea and sugar. Some people don't have
that.
I have children. Some people don't have children.
We are saying Alhamdulillah. We're grateful to Allah.
And the sister said,
why are you fasting in Ramadan? You are
poor already. Why are you fasting in Ramadan?
And she said, we fast in Ramadan so
we feel how the poor people feel. Because
there are some people who are poorer than
us.
And sister Lauren Booth started to cry. Eventually,
she became Muslim.
Lauren Booth, you can go to YouTube and
watch her conversion story. She is the sister-in-law
of Tony Blair.
Lauren Booth. So go and watch this story.
It will change your life.
I remember this story I brought up Tom
from Cambridge, Ontario. I met him last year.
He had been Muslim for, like, 3, 4
years,
and
he said he was not feeling well. He
went to the doctor, and he told him
you have cancer.
Very late for the treatment, and he told
him you got only 2 years to live.
He's about 40 years old.
And he's always smiling, and he's always cheerful,
and he's saying Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah.
And I'm asking you, okay, you have cancer,
you have kids, 2 little kids,
and, you know, you're gonna leave your wife
behind.
Why are you saying Alhamdulillah? He said, I'm
I'm saying Alhamdulillah
because I I I accepted Islam before I'm
gonna die, which will make everything easy for
me when I go to the next life.
So this is like Sahaba. This is a
good example. Some people that we should be
proud of, and we should be making dua
for all the new Muslim brothers and sisters.
They have sacrifices in life.
Their families alienate them, their friends alienate them,
and, Yaz, we say takbir, we hug and
kiss them when they take shahada, then we
throw them in the street to find life
on their own. So we should be making
dua for these people. So this is another
example of a good brother like with Sahaba.
I'm gonna conclude with this story.
Brother Eric from South Carolina.
I was there for a few years, and
Mashallah,
big brother,
like, very tall, very big. And I literally,
his arm was bigger than me.
He's a big guy and a small guy.
So
his father is a priest in South Carolina,
they call it the bible belt. Right? So
very serious about the Christian faith. His father
is a priest, and this brother Eric,
he fought in Desert Desert Storm, 1990.
So he's a big guy, very fit, and
very healthy. So one day he came to
the Masjid, long story long.
I was giving a talk about death and
what will happen if you go to the
next life,
and it was Ramadan time after the Iftar.
He ate with us. He stayed for 10,
15 minutes, then he left.
Then he stood in the parking lot to
think about what he heard for 5 minutes.
He came back in and out 3, 4
times. And before I even could finish my
talk, he came and said, you know what,
I want to take Shahada. And he accepted
Islam that day.
I remember,
just like today,
I gave him the Shahada,
we had to give him a chair so
he doesn't hit the fan, we had to,
you know, ask him to sit down. And
even when I was giving him Shahada, he
was taller than me. He was sitting down.
I was standing up. He was taller than
me. Right?
And I said there's no way in the
world
I can force someone like this to take
Shahada. Like, it's it's not practical that someone
my height can force someone his height to
become Muslim. He does it because of out
of love for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
out of love for Islam.
He named himself Al Farooq, not because he
was very tall like him, but because he
said now I'm gonna be Farooq between Islam
and Kufr. He used to help me with
Dawah and visits to churches. And the reason
I'm telling you this story,
he lived 15
minutes away from the masjid, and he was
always there for all the prayers. Farshal.
He was there. He was all the prayers.
He was coming every day, nonstop.
And I told him, Mashallah, you live far
away. Why why do you keep coming to
the masjid?
Even when it was raining, snowing, it snows
once in South Carolina.
Why are you coming all the time? And
he says, I'll tell you a story. Why
am I coming to the Masjid all the
time although I drive, you know, 15 minutes?
He said, before Islam, he used to date
a lot of girls.
Is Clemson University there beautiful girls?
So he said one time, I was dating
a girl who was living he's in South
Carolina. I think he was dating a girl
from Texas. I don't remember. So he said,
I drove for 15 hours to be with
that girl I was dating at the time.
So if I can't drive for 15 hours
to be with a girl, I don't have
a problem for driving 15 minutes to be
with Allah in the masjid. Yeah. So this
is the kind of attitude we need before
the month of Ramadan. Taraweeh is coming, Fashr
is coming, and the Masjid now is open
every day. Either me or Huja Muhammad Ali,
we open the Masjid every day. Saturday, Sunday,
every day, the Masjid is open, so InshaAllah
everyone is welcome to come for Salah. We
ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to bless us
and our families, and give us the best
in this life, and the best in the
life to come.
We're gonna request you kindly to move up
because people are waiting outside, standing outside. So
move up, please. Gazar and mafayl.
Fa'alaf
kisal insha'amal
So the three qualities that the Sahaba did
that we need to follow,
their example, inshaAllah, to maximize our hazanat, especially
in the month of Ramadan. Number 1,
is Sadakum Affat. And this means to make
up for what you missed when you were
younger.
When the Sahaba took Shahadah, and of course,
this comes as a surprise to most of
us, the Sahaba will revert to Islam.
The Sahaba will revert to Islam, like brother
Malik is not there, he came from Saint
Catherine's.
Yes.
New Muslim, like the sister,
sister of Easter, I gave Shahada to in
this message last week. They have reverts to
Islam just like Sahaba.
So what they did, they would come to
Rasulullah and say, Yeah Rasulullah, we fought against
Islam.
We spent a lot of money. We spent
a lot of time to, stop Islam. Now
since we became Muslims, we're gonna spend 10
times
more to support Islam.
We're gonna support Islam financially, physically, spiritually in
any possible way.
Some of them, yes.
We didn't read Quran before we became Muslim.
Right? Now we are Muslim, they used to
memorize Quran, they used to recite Quran.
Abu Ghraal Adjallahu Anhu, he didn't seek knowledge
before Islam.
And it comes as a surprise to most
people that although Abu Ghraal Adjallahu Anhu was
Muslim for the last 3 years of the
life of Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he spent
1,000 days only with Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
1,000 days.
But he narrated more Hadith than anyone else,
than those who spent their whole lives with
Muhammad SAW Salam. He narrated more than 5,300
Hadith.
1000 days. Which means that he was narrating
more than 5 Hadith everyday. He was with
the prophet SAW Salam like his shadow. He
wanted to make up for what he missed.
Most of us here,
myself included,
we have what we call Jahiliyah days. When
we're younger,
after reaching puberty,
we didn't pray on time. Maybe we delayed
salah, we missed salah. I know some people
missed salahat for many years.
I know some sisters,
they missed Ramadan for so many years. Some
sisters, after they reached puberty,
and they have their monthly cycles, they are
shy to talk to their parents, and they
start fasting in Ramadan.
Of course, their fasting is not accepted, and
they don't make up the days because they
are shy to tell that I have this
monthly thing.
They don't know. So a lot of people
miss a lot of things.
Read the Quran, we put it on the
shelf to collect dust for the whole year.
Maybe in Ramadan the first day, we read
Fatiha,
Udalil Muttabim Khalas. Right? So we need to
work more. If you don't come to the
Masjid very often outside Ramadan, then start coming
to the Masjid. Start reading Quran.
Start praying properly.
Learning about Islam. So making up for what
you missed in the past. And who knows?
I don't want to scare you.
This could be your last Ramadan.
This could be your last Ramadan.
I mentioned 2 Jumaz ago, the brother of
Quran 12 years ago
passed away 12 years old. He was very
healthy.
He he didn't have any medical issues.
So who knows? Maybe me, maybe you, maybe
the sister out there
will not be here with us next, salamu
ala'ala. So make sure that you come to
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala before it is too
late.
It's sidraqu mafat making up for what you
missed in the past. And number 2,
How many are haveith? This a have were
very smart.
