The speaker discusses the importance of Allah's actions as a means of protecting humanity and the use of "has" in the sense of entitlement. They warn that people may not know that Allah is a good person and may not appreciate his entitlement. The speaker also discusses reactions to Allah's actions, including protesting and questioning, and emphasizes the importance of patient and gratitude in difficult situations. I bear witness that there is none worthy
of Our worship except Allah
And I bear witness that Muhammad salallahu alayhi
wa sallam, peace be upon him, is the
seal of the prophets and the final messenger
to all of humanity.
Whoever
Allah guides, there is none to misguide, and
whoever Allah
leads astray, there is none to guide aright.
So today, inshallah, we will resume our discussion,
which we started last week, about
trials and tribulations in this life, because,
often times I'm asked this question, why
do bad things happen to good people?
And if something bad happens to me, is
this a sign that Allah
hates me?
So that was the first half of the
last time, and I think this is a
very timely Khutbah
about Iftila, because what could be a worse
Iftila
than Donald Trump being elected president?
And a lot of people, a lot of
Muslims
are what I call traumatized.
Traumatized and tripping at the same time, traumatized.
A lot of people are scared, a lot
of people are worried, you have to keep
one thing in mind.
Everyone makes plans,
but Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has the ultimate
plan.
No one will ever do anything without the
permission of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. So Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala keeps everyone under control.
We mentioned
last time that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala tested
the prophets, alayhum salatu wa salam, more than
anyone else. And the prophet
said that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala when he
loves someone, he puts them to the test
either to test your faith in him,
or to bring you closer to him. Because
sometimes we forget and we stray away, and
Allah
when the calamities happen and you are hit,
you find no one, no resort to help
you except Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Even atheists,
those who deny that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
exists,
when they get into an accident
or their plane is about to crash or
something terrible is about to happen to them,
they say, Oh my God.
Naturally, because this is the fitrah, they remember
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And oftentimes people remember
Allah when they go to jail, when they
go to the hospital
for a surgery. Everyone remembers Allah in difficult
times. So it's a good thing that Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala reminds you of Himself.
Also, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala out of His
rahma,
may put you to the test in dunya,
so He can forgive your sins, so He
doesn't have to question you in front of
everyone on the Day of Judgment. What a
horrible humiliation on the Day of Judgment. But
if He cleans you up in dunya
by trials and tribulations, it's a good thing.
Also, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, as we mentioned
last time, may allow something terrible to happen
to you, so He can save you from
something worse.
You miss a flight, you cry, next morning
you realize the plane crashed. So Allah saved
you.
But the day before you were crying, you
were whining, you were complaining.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala would take something from
you just to give you something better.
Like
you lose a job, Allah will give you
a better paying job. And we mentioned the
example of Umu Salamah when she lost her
husband, and she was devastated, and she said,
who? Allah will give me something better, but
who is better than my husband?
And the Prophet SAW Alaihi Wasallam married her,
and she said he is a 1000000 times
better than Abu Salim.
So the Prophet SAW Alaihi Wasallam told the
truth.
So today inshaAllah we'll talk about,
the different reactions
that people have when something terrible happens to
them. Because you don't expect everyone to have
the same level of faith.
So,
So we get 4 different reactions from people,
when calamities hit, when terrible things happen to
them. Number 1,
Those who protest,
those who always question Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and they say, Okay, You Allah, why do
you always do this to me?
My son was only 20 years old and
he took him, and my neighbor is 95,
he's in and out of the hospital and
he's running around, no problem.
Why did you do this to me? So
some people complain and they protest,
and they question Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Not knowing that, Laayus Arun, ammayyahfaaluhumi
Zarun. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is in a
position to question us,
but we are not in a position to
question him.
So if he gave you something then he
took it back,
you are not in a position to ask
him why did you take it because you
didn't thank him in the first place when
he gave it to you. It is his,
not yours.
So if you have this kind of attitude,
it will make it easier for you to
respond
to the problems and the Abdullahat.
Sense of entitlement.
So So some people think if I'm a
good person, they have this sense of entitlement.
If I'm a good person,
Allah does not have the right to test
me, and to put me into Ibtih. This
is how they think.
So they think, if I'm a bad person,
Allah has the right to test me, and
to put me into Ibtillah. But if I'm
a good person,
this shouldn't happen to me.
This is the sense of entitlement
that people have. And you read about this
is Surah
So when a human being is tested
with something good, Allah gives them money, good
health, a family, everything.
They say Allah has deservedly honored me because
I deserve it.
But if Allah
puts them to the task by taking something
from them, the health, a family member, a
job, something,
they say Allah
has undeservedly
humiliated me.
So this sense of entitlement.
They don't know,
and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala kareem, He's distributed
his risk among everyone
equally.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala withheld
only one thing or a couple of things,
so people will always ask Him.
So those who have money,
they have a good health, they don't have
children.
Maybe those who have children and a good
health, they don't have a job. So something
is always missing, so he will always go
back to Allah and say, you Allah give
me this and give me that. You Allah
give me children, you Allah give me money,
you Allah give me a good health. Everyone
will be asking Allah. Because I remember
last time,
we said that,
when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala showers his name
on you, you forget about him. But in
difficult times, you turn back to him because
you know that he is the only one
who can help you. And subhanAllah, when I
was young,
I was always thinking about this.
When the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam lost
his father,
when the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam was
still in the womb of his mother, he
came out, his father was not there. 5
years old,
his mom passed away. He moved to his
uncle, his uncle passed away. He moved to
his grandfather, his grandfather passed away.
And I was thinking about this. Why is
it so that when the prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam was taken in the care of
someone, this person was taken away.
And subhanallah
So the prophet shawhi wa sallam, whenever he
was taken into the care of someone, they
died because Allah
wanted to teach him. Don't say, oh father,
uncle, or grandfather, always say, you Allah. Because
everyone will leave, everyone will die, Allah
never dies. He's always there for you.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
If Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
was to shower his servants with his rizq,
the money, the good health, the children, everyone
is a millionaire,
Everyone has fancy cars, a good house, a
good health, a family.
The Earth would have been corrupted.
Nobody is gonna work as a doctor, no
one is gonna work as a teacher, no
one is gonna work as anything.
Because everyone has money, why should you work?
Why should we take care of each other?
And people will be fighting over money, so
everyone will be the richest in town.
But Allah
sends down his rizq in a precise and
a perfect measure because
Allah sees everyone, and he is all aware
of everything.
So this is from
the Hikmah of Allah
In Nur al Thani,
the second type of people, we mentioned those
who protest and question Allah. The second type
are those who are patient
in difficult times.
So they're not pulling their hair off, they're
not going crazy, they're patient, they're not complaining,
but they wish the calamity or the Ibtillah
never happened.
The 3rd time, which is the better level,
those who are content with the tadar of
Allah. They are patient, they're not complaining,
and whether the Ibtillah happened or didn't happen,
it doesn't matter to them because they know
it's all good, it's all from Allah.
The 4th
and the highest type, alshakir.
Those who are thankful.
Even in difficult times, when something bad happens,
they are thankful to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Because they see the full half of the
cup, they know that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has given so much, and if he talks
once if he takes only one thing, this
is out of his generosity,
because you're gonna have taken everything.
So
So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in Surah Baqarah
He said, I will test
you with only a touch
of the loss of money, life, and so
on and so forth. A touch, only a
touch. Because if Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala takes
everything from you, you would have been devastated.
Like imagine you wake up in the morning,
your your health is gone,
your wife and the kids are gone, your
money is gone, everything is taken away. This
would be very very difficult for you, but
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala only takes one thing.
He just showing you a flavor
that I'm able to take everything, but I'm
generous to you, I only take one thing.
In the case of Ayub alaihis salam, Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala took everything from him. His
health,
his money,
his kids, everything. Only his water was left
for him.
People ran away from him. He was alienated.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave him everything
back twice over.
He gave him the double number of the
children he took, the double money, the double
health, everything
Out of Islam because Ayub alaihi salam.
So Haruwat ibn Zubayr
had 4 boys,
and he was healthy. So one day,
he had a problem in in one of
his legs, so they cut it off. So
the illness,
couldn't spread to the rest of the body.
The same day, one of his 4 kids
fell off the roof of his house and
and died. He was killed innocently.
And people saw him, Umar Gaddafi,
thankful to Allah saying, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah.
So people said, okay, why are you thanking
Allah? Because
this is a terrible day for you. This
is your unlucky day. You lost your leg,
you lost your son, why are you thankful?
He said, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave me
4 children.
He only took 1. You could have taken
all, but Allah is grateful, Allah is gracious
and generous. He took 1, he left 3.
And Allah has given me 4 limbs,
2 feet, 2 hands, he only took 1.
He left 3 for me, he could have
taken 4. So I'm grateful for what Allah
has taken, and I'm grateful for what Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala has left.
Tell you,
what should we do in in
conclusion inshaAllah.
If something bad happens to you, be patient,
Alhamdulillah. And if Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has
given you Niama, a baby is born, you
get a new job, Allah gave you money,
say Alhamdulillah.
So the Prophet SAW Alaihi Wasallam said, how
amazing
is the situation of the believer with Allah.
If something bad happens to them, they are
patient and Allah will give them the reward.
If something good happens to them, they are
thankful, they are grateful, and they get also
the reward. So either way,
they're winning, they're getting the reward from Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, and Allah is pleased with
them.
So the prophet
gives us this fantastic solution to most of
our problems. He says always look to those
who are
less fortunate than you are, and don't look
at those who are better than you,
or those who are more fortunate than you
are. This will help you appreciate the nirm
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Say for example,
Allah has given more money to someone,
don't complain.
Look at the homeless.
Look at those who have who get less
money than you. But when it comes to
look
at someone who prays more than you, or
someone who donates more than you, because this
will help you appreciate the nirm of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
I like soccer,
and,
I like Barcelona.
I think if you support Real Madrid, you'll
have issues with me. But, anyway,
those of you who know Zaini Tien Zidane,
he was very popular, and he was in
the French national team.
When he he came from a poor family.
Right? From a poor family.
So Zeydazeena,
a very popular soccer player for he used
to be in the French team. So he
said, when he was young, his family couldn't
afford to to buy him running shoes to
play soccer in the streets.
Very poor. So he said he used to
cry and he used to whine and complain,
why? Why? I don't have shoes to play.
What is this? Everyone has shoes? I don't
have shoes. So he said one day,
he passed by a little kid with no
feet.
And this is when he realized the favor
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala on him.
That someone else is tested more than him.
He said, at least I can run.
Forget about the shoes. One day I'll get
the shoes, but see the brother here, Allah
tested him more than me.
So when you look at someone who has
been tested more than you, yes, Allah will
give them the reward, but this will realize
you that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
tested you less than someone
else.
InshaAllah.
There was a wise Chinese man. So people
used to come to him and complain.
And they say Allah has tested me, why
is this happening to me, and so on
and so forth. So he told everyone of
them, put a piece of paper, write your
problem in the piece of paper, and put
it in this basket, and fold it and
put it in the basket.
So everyone wrote their problem, and they put
their problem in the basket, and he shook
the basket, and he told them, pick one
problem from the basket.
So someone who was laid off, he had
no money, took a problem, someone else's problem,
and it says, I lost
my 18 years old son.
He said, No, I don't want this one.
He said, I want my my problem. The
one that says, I got laid off, and
I'm looking for a job. And so on
and so forth.
And if you look, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is merciful to you. He gave you something
that you can endure patiently, if you have
the patience. The last thing,
don't complain and question Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Don't question Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
You see it Adam
Yashqur Rahmana Rahim ilaamala yahaam.
So ibnutayim Rahim Allah says, the person who
complain,
complains about the Qadr of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala, they are disrespectful to Allah. Because they
complain
about the Most Merciful
to the people who have no mercy.
No one would have more mercy on you
than Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Not the people.
Not the people. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
the Most Merciful.
I'm gonna conclude with this statement
that I learned from a new Muslim brother
in Edmonton,
and if you can't frame it and keep
it in your house, it will help you
overcome any difficulty in life.
He told me once,
if you keep complaining,
Allah will give you more to complain about.
If you keep whining, Allah will give you
more to whine about.
But if you are grateful,
Allah will give you more to thank for.
And this is even in the Quran.
It's in the Quran. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
if you said in Surah,
Ibrahim,
if you are grateful, I will give you
more.
If you keep whining,
my punishment will shower you, overwhelm you. So
it's the same meaning. We ask Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala to protect us from Ibtillah,
and to help us become grateful in good
times and patient in difficult times inshallahum wa
ta'ala.
Alhamdulillahum wa baalamin, washaduAllahi lahi lahi lahi lahi
