I bear witness that there is none worthy
of our worship except Allah,
and I bear witness that Muhammad, sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam, is the seal of the prophets
and the final messenger to all of humanity.
Whomever
Allah guides, there is none to misguide.
And whomever Allah
leaves to go astray, there is none to
guide.
So last time, we started this quarter to
speak about some of the lessons
we can learn from the Hijra of the
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam from Mecca to Madinah.
And today, we'll continue, inshaAllah, with one lesson.
That is 'Oluwul Khimla.
To think big
and to to have a vision in life.
So today, inshallah, we'll talk about
how the Prophet
was thinking big.
And we'll give one example from the hijrah
of the Prophet
his story with Surah Al Nami.
So when
Surafa was very close to the prophet to
attack him in order to get the the
camels,
so Abu Bakr Abdullah was very scared.
So the prophet
told him, don't worry. We have Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala on our side.
So if you have Allah
with you,
don't worry who is against you. But if
Allah
is against you, it doesn't matter who is
standing with you. So should you should always
keep this in your mind.
Then Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, the prophet said,
that made duas, oh, Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala,
oh, Allah, protect us from him.
So when Surahaha tried to get closer,
the feet of his horse sank in the
rocks.
Not sand, the rocks. Three times, and he
fell down. At that point, he realized he
was not able to touch the prophet, sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam. So he asked the prophet,
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, to give him a
little of protection. And Abu Bakr, radiAllahu alaihi
wa sallam, who wrote the letter on behalf
of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam that
if the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam were
to go to Mecca and the city will
submit and surrender to the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam, Surahaha wouldn't be hard.
The Surahaha said,
oh, Muhammad, when you pass by that area,
you will come across my herd of sheep.
Take whatever you want.
So the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam told
him, I I don't need your sheeps and
your goats. Allah
will provide for me. So he was astonished
because the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam left.
He didn't have nothing with him. He had
only one man by his side. Then the
whole of Mecca was against him, and now
he is refusing to take provision
from that man.
So the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam told
us, don't be surprised because I refuse to
take your goats and your sheep.
You will be more surprised when you wear
the the golden bracelets of Kisra. Kisra was
the king of Persia at that time, and
Persia was in control of almost half of
the world at that time, and the Roman
Empire was in control of the other half.
So look at that situation. The prophet is
being chased,
him and Abu Bakr. He was not supported
at that time, and he's telling him that
this man, Surah Alaihi wa sallam, will wear
the golden bracelets of Kisra because Muslims will
own half of the world that belongs to
the Persians at that time.
So he returned, and he told people whenever
he met someone, Surahqa,
he told them to go back.
So he started in the morning by trying
to chase and attack the prophet
and at the end of the day, he
was defending the prophet
So every time he saw someone coming that
way, he told him he is not here.
He went to the other side, so go
there.
So at the time of Umar ibn Fattah
radhiallahu anhu,
Persia was opened, and the people came to
the masjid to take their share of the
vaniemah, the money.
So Umar ibn Fattah radhiallahu anhu looked at
the people so he can give someone the
the coat
or the cloak of the emperor and his
golden bracelets.
And he couldn't find anyone in the masjid,
told her the surah, so he gave him
the stuff. And he didn't know about the
letter that the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam
gave to him
So this is also it's very clear in
the story of Hadid Al Hadid.
When
he came to the prophet, salaam, to learn
about Islam, and the prophet, salaam, told him,
Hadid was a king. He was a Christian
king.
So the prophet, salaam, told him,
are you not willing to accept Islam because
Muslims are very few in number and they
are weak and they are poor? By Allah,
and they will come
and Islam will reach
all corners of the world.
And by Allah,
the lady will come from the outskirts of
the Arabian Peninsula to go for the Hajj,
and she's not afraid of anyone except Allah.
And by Allah, they gave the treasures of
Persia will be open to the Muslims.
So Adi, he said, I accepted this land,
and I was with the group that opened
the treasures of Kislev. And I saw the
lady come from the end of
Arabia for Hajj, and she was not afraid
of anyone except Allah. And I'm sure that
the third one would happen, and they said
it happened at the time of Omar Ibn
Abdel Aziz, Rashidullah Muhammad.
They used to ask to beg people in
the streets to take sadaqa and zakah, and
nobody would take it.
So for you to have Arlo al Himmel,
to think big
in this life,
you have to leave a legacy. There are
billions of people who lived in this world,
and they died, and nobody knows anything about
them. We don't even know their names,
but we know Abu Khare because of his
knowledge,
because of Hadith. And we know Abu Khareef
and Shafi'i Anman, Akhmad, and many others because
of
and so on and so forth.
They had a goal
in life, and they had a vision, and
they tried to achieve it to reach that
higher rank in life.
You see, for example, in the story of
Ibn Jauzi, who was a scholar.
And he said,
by by Allah, I wrote 2,000 volumes with
these two fingers. 2,000 volumes. He was writing
day and night. And in some narrations, he
wouldn't even use his hands to eat.
He would ask his wife or his sister
to feed him as he was writing down
because he didn't have time to waste for
food.
And so on and so forth, the stories
are so many.
So the scholars say to be successful in
this life, in any field,
you have to have 2 qualifications.
Number 1,
the desire to succeed in life and the
ability to succeed.
And for example, I've always wanted to be
a basketball
player,
but I'm too sure to play.
I have the desire, but I don't have
the ability.
When you pass the high school
with
A's in math and science,
so and your family keeps pushing you to,
to study science and medicine,
but you don't want to study science and
medicine. You have the ability, the mathematical and
the scientific ability, but you don't have the
desire. You want to study something else. You
want to study poetry, you want to study
cooking, whatever. So you have the ability, but
you don't have the desire. So you have
to have both of them to succeed in
this life.
So we'll give one example of why I
said that in the first foot bath,
there were 2 people and they used to
work with donkeys. They used to carry stuff
on the back of donkeys. They carry stuff
from one place to another.
So one night, after a long day of
work,
after dinner, they lie down on their backs.
They were looking at the moon and the
stars, and Mohammed
ibn Abi Hamid was one of them. The
3 in Andalusia and Spain during the Umayyad
dynasty.
So Mohammed told him,
do you have any wishes in life, any
goals in life that you would like to
achieve in the next 10 or 15 or
20 years? So So one of them said,
okay, instead of 1 donkey, I want to
have 5 donkeys in the next 5 years.
So I'll make more money.
The second one said, I need to have
10 donkeys, so I make double what this
guy will do.
What about you, Mohammed? So Mohammed ibn Abi
Ahmed said, I would like to be the
khalifa of Muslims. I would like to be
the ruler of the whole Muslim world. So
they started to laugh at him and say,
okay, look at this guy. This guy is
nuts. He's
he's high or something.
So he
said, I'm not, you know, this is what
I plan to do in life. This is
my goal in life.
Please tell us what do you want in
life? He say, he told him, same thing.
I wanna be the Khalif.
So of course, when he told him that,
Inshallah, I'll become the Khalifa. This is my
goal in life. They laughed at him. So
he told him, okay. Let's assume hypothetically
that I become the Khalifa one day.
You, what do you want from me?
So he said, I want a palace and
I want a garden and a 100000
golden pieces.
So I said, what about the second one?
The second one said, okay. If you become
the Khalifa,
spit on my face
and put me on a donkey backwards,
and walk some people with me in the
streets of the city and say this guy
is a liar, and he is nuts.
Okay. And tar and further me.
He said, okay.
So the next morning, he saw the his
only donkey, and of course, the other one
were both of them actually were making fun
of him. So he saw the donkey, and
he joined the police. He became our RCMP.
And within 15 years, he was promoted and
everything. He was promoted all the time because
he was smart
and a hard worker.
And after 15 years, he became the chief
of the police in the whole of Andalusia.
Then in the same year, the Khalifa had
died. The Mustasim, his son, who was 10
years old, became the Khalifa. And of course,
he couldn't run the country by himself, so
they assigned Muhammad Abi Ahmed, a guardian of
a Khalifa, and he assumed the Khalifa and
he became the Khalifa.
So after 15, 20 years, he became the
Khalif. Okay? And he established himself as a
Khalifa in the land, and he remembered the
2 guys. And he brought him to the
palace, and both of them were still working
on donkeys.
So he he told them, do you still
remember me guys? They said, yes.
And he told the first one, what did
you ask me? He said, the palace, the
money, and the garden. He said, give it
to him. The other one, he said,
what did you ask me back then? He
said, you know what? I don't remember. I'm
I'm busy. Let me go home. He said,
no. No. No. No. You asked me to
spit on your face and to put you
backwards on the donkey, and to tar you
and feather you and walk you in the
sheets of the city, and to say this
is a liar and this is a thief.
I'm gonna put you on the donkey and
do everything you ask, not because I'm unjust,
but because I want you to teach you
a lesson that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. When
he wills something, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala doesn't.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala degrees, it's always
carried out, and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
able to do all things.
In the past few days, you must have
received this in your mailbox.
And if you received it and you read
it, inshallah, I can pass it on to
your friends. And every single person in Edmonton
and neighboring cities received it. Alhamdulillah.
And we have been receiving phone calls and
emails, and people are thanking us for sending
this out. And some people said, we are
proud of Rashid, that you guys, Yali, were
able to put this together and to send
it to everyone.
This is a pride for the whole community
in Edmonton and in Alberta. We still need
a a little push to send it to
other cities like Calgary and neighboring cities. So
inshallah, if you want to help, we ask
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to reward you for
your generosity and for this great project.
