Mustafa Khattab – Khushu In Salah

AI: Summary ©
The importance of the Prophet's words in legislation of the time is highlighted, including the root word "naiv fe" and the importance of fast prayer. Prayerers should show respect towards Prophet's words and focus on the beginning of the time before pursuing a mission. The importance of sh matter and not praying is emphasized, and the importance of the title "The sun matte" after the Nawafil is also emphasized. Prayerers should be mindful of their focus and value in the moment, and should avoid wasting time by focusing on the value and importance of the title "The sun matte" after the Nawafil.
AI: Summary ©
I bear witness that there is none worthy
of our worship except Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And I bear witness that Muhammad salallahu alayhi
wa sallam peace be upon him is the
seal of the prophets and the final messenger
to all of humanity. Whoever Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala guides, there is none to misguide, and
whoever Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala leaves astray,
there is none to guide
aright.
So I'm gonna kindly ask you before we
start to move up because the masjid is
already full and people are waiting outside.
Jazakulaha.
Move up to the Jazakul Wifi.
What does Salaam have said?
I'm going to start with,
with a little story.
There was a man and he asked his
son to go to the masjid for Salatul
Magrib, and he told him invite people for
dinner
in our house.
So his son is was not willing to
invite everyone.
So he didn't take the mic and invite
everyone to come for for Biryani or for
dinner.
So what he did basically, he stood by
the door outside the Masjid, and every time
someone was leaving he asked him a simple
question.
What did the Imam recite in 1st raka
and second raka? Of course the Imam recited
the first raka'a Surah, Duaa second raka'a alam
Nashra.
So everyone had a different answer most people
said, oh, Surah Baqarah, Surah Ankaboo, Surah Kahf,
something totally different. Because people were not focused
in the salah.
Only 3 4 guys gave the right answer
and therefore were invited for for dinner.
So a few days ago, a brother came
to me and he said he had he
had a very
big problem with Fashur and Sala. Focus in
the Salaam.
So he can't focus, he can't keep his
focus for the 3 or 4 minutes in
the Salaam. So he was asking for some
practical,
tips on how to keep his focus in
salah. And I told him, all of us
have a problem.
Every single one of us here has a
problem in salah. You always lose your focus
in salah.
And as I said in Arabi, if someone
does has does not have a problem with
Fushur and salah, they don't have to listen
to my footpath, they feel free to leave,
and of course I don't see anyone leaving
because we have an issue with Fushur and
salah.
So if you don't have a problem with
Fashurah insulah, I'll give you a $100.
Give them from Abu Ma'ayan and we'll give
them to you insulah. Everyone has an issue
with Fashurah insulah.
Including myself.
So every time,
you know before I give football or something,
or I'm invited somewhere to give a talk,
Shaitan will come to me, my Shaitan is
very academic, very smart, so he will tell
me inshallah you're gonna start with this story,
this is the body of your talk, this
is the conclusion, use this funny story inside
Salah.
Omar ibn Khattar bid Allahan who said himself
that he is mobilizing the army and calculating
the Zakat money coming to him, to Madinah
in Salah.
Because he was overwhelmed
with serving the Muslim community, he was always
thinking preoccupied with the Umma, so his focus
was, you know, inside the Salah. So every
one of us has something to think about.
As soon as you start you stand on
the carpet, you start to think about how
miserable you are in the marriage,
about your problem at work, about vacation,
future plans,
on the carpet. But outside, no problem.
People watch movies like boring movies. I can't
think of a more boring movie than gun
with the wind. 3 hours. People don't blink.
Watching a boring game, hockey or something, they
don't blink.
But when it comes to salah they start
yawning,
scratching their head, digging in their nose, looking
at their watch, outside the way.
So you need to understand
that salah is probably is the most important
thing in your life. Right? This time you
give to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala out of
your schedule,
these 24 minutes you put into salah everyday
out of the 24 hours, this is the
most important thing. Wa maqalak tujinaal insayla liabudun
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala created you for this
reason.
So people always lose their focus in the
salah, and I believe most of the time
because they don't understand the significance,
the importance of salah.
Once you understand
what you're doing,
why you are praying,
who are you are standing in front of,
then your perspective will change on salah.
So a few things,
this is how the Sahaba understood the salah.
The Prophet SAWH and the Sahaba when they
prayed,
they knew that the word salah comes from
the root word wasalah,
and the word wasalah and Arabi means to
connect.
Salah, salah. It's a connection with Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala.
So you basically charge your battery 5 times
a day when you communicate with Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Also, when it was time for salah, the
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam would tell Bilal Radhala
wa'um, Arishna Abiha Bilal. Give us comfort
from the problems,
and the hardships, and the pain of this
life through salah.
So basically you disconnect with the world, you
connect with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, you throw
you throw the whole world behind your back,
and you're standing in front of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala.
One of the
important things about Salah,
or to understand the value of Salah, you
have to understand the Hadith of the Prophet
SAW Alaihi Wasallam in the Tirmidhi, he said,
Awad Umayuhaha Subhanahu Wa Aftui Omar Qiyama Is
Salat. He said, when you open your eyes
on the day of judgment,
people have been dead for 1000 of years,
when they open their eyes on the day
of judgment, the first question they would get,
did you pray on time? Did you pray
properly?
This is the first question they get, and
the prophet says,
if your salah is accepted,
then everything else will be a piece of
cake. You'll be, you know, in a good
place.
But if your salah is not accepted,
you always delayed your salah, you prayed without
kashur, you prayed very fast, you didn't know
what you were saying in salah,
then you'll be in big trouble.
This is the meaning of the hadith in
Atir Bedi.
The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, everyone knows the
story of how he died and the last
words that came out of his mouth because
before he gave up his soul,
salaam.
Some of the last words that the Prophet
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said before he died, Assalatu
salatuamamalakatayimalakum.
Salah, make salah, pray on time, then he
died.
Why?
Because if there was anything that is more
important than salah, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
would have chosen it to seal his mission
with.
Like Hajj, or Zakat, or anything, but salah,
why did he choose salah to seal his
mission with? Because it's the most important thing.
Also the Aleman say,
we know the hadith when the prophet salallahu
alaihi wasalam from Mira, and his salaam alaihi
wasalam, and he got the order to make
salah directly from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in
the heavens.
You know the story of his salaam alaihi.
But anything else,
how to fast Ramadan, how to do Hajjibreel
alayhi salam would come to the prophet salam,
give him the order to, do these after
that and show it show him how to
do them. But in the case of salah
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala took him all the
way to give him the order directly, there's
no money in between.
And I always give the example if,
if you want to get something done, you
can send an email to your employee.
If it is more important, you will give
them a call. But if it is super
important you will tell them take a, you
know, get the 1st plane and catch up
with me in Vancouver because I wanna talk
to you directly.
So this is what happens in the case
of Salah because it is super important,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala did not get Jibril
alaihi salaam to deliver the message, no he
spoke to Muhammad
directly. So this shows you how significant salah
is. Also,
they say that salah is the only rebara
that cannot be waved.
And say for example, someone is mute, they
can't talk,
they cannot say shahada,
saying it is waived as long as they
feel it in their hearts, or they do
it through sign language,
that's okay for them.
If someone for example does not have money,
they don't have to give zakat.
If someone is very old, or they have,
you know, they they they have a, you
know,
sickness,
something like diabetes, or something like cancer, or
brain tumor,
something that is, you know, with them, that's
gonna stay with them for probably a long
time,
they don't have to fast in the month
of Ramadan. Or if someone is very old,
they don't have to fast. If someone does
not have the physical and financial ability, they
don't have to go for Hajr.
But what about Salah?
If someone is busy, they have to pray.
If someone is poor, they have to pray.
If someone is sick, they have to pray.
If someone is traveling, they have to pray.
If a sister is pregnant, she has to
pray. There's no waiver.
Except for example in one case, this time
of the month when the sister is not
able to pray, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will
waive it, only in this particular case. But
other than this, a person has to pray.
We know that the closest you can get
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is in sujood,
in salah.
If you have a dua that you want
to make and
and and you would love to be answered,
make it during salah, especially in sujood Allah
will accept.
The Prophet says in the hadith, an authentic
hadith,
he passed by 2 graves, it's an atur
mabeed,
and he said,
If the person in the grave were to
come to work again, the first thing he
will do
not to go to the movies,
not to go skiing,
no, he will pray. Why? Because now he
knows, he understands, he or she understands the
significance of Salaf. So if they were to
come back to life, which is impossible, Halas,
once you go, Halas,
if they ever come back to this world,
they would pray. This is the first thing
they would do, namaz.
Why? Because now they see the significance
and the importance of namaz and salaf.
So another request, inshallah, move up because the
people are waiting outside.
Move up a little bit, please.
Move
up inshallah.
So now we understand the significance
of salah.
In the Quran, SubhanAllah,
all over the Quran, when the prophet was
given a hard time by his people, the
prophet
salaam
said,
When they gave him a hard time, Allah
would tell the Prophet salaam, okay. Make salaam.
Look for power and strength in sala.
In the story of Musa alayhi salam in
Surah Yunus,
when Allah
revealed to Musa alayhi salam
said,
you can't go to the Masjid and pray.
There's what fair did to the Bani Israel
in Egypt. So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala revealed
to them, turn your homes into Masjid. Pray
at home.
You know, get strength and power through salah,
and Allah will give you victory in the
end. And and this is what happened.
You see subhanAllah in the story of Musa
alaihis salaam in Suratah,
when he was communicating with Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said, yeah
Musa,
What do you have in your head?
He said, Dear Allah, it's, it's my staff.
I use this to, you know, bring down
leaves from my animals, and I protect them,
and I use it to walk, and I
have also other uses,
benefits in the staff. In the hope that
Allah would ask him more about the staff,
all he had to say was staff.
He didn't have to say, we're a stick.
He didn't have to say, it's mine, I
use it for this, this, this, and I
also have some other benefits.
Why? They said because he was communicating with
Allah, he was talking to him, so he
wanted to make the conversation very long.
He was being redundant to keep the conversation
with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala very long.
You say Alhamdulillahi rabbilalameer Allah will say Hamadani
Abdi. My servant has glorified me. So every
time you say something, you say an ayah
from Surah Fatih, Allah will say something.
You're communicating with Allah, you're talking to him,
and he says something to you.
This should give you some perspective on salah
and help you focus
in the salah.
So what do you do to be able
to focus in salah? Number 1, you need
to understand who you are standing in front
of.
The King of Kings, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Now imagine if I get an invitation to
talk to, Queen Elizabeth or any of the
Queens or Kings, they invite me to their
palace, and I go there, and I'm standing
in front of the Queen for 4 or
5 minutes, and she's talking to me,
and I'm scratching my head, and digging my
nose, and yawning,
and what will this look like?
It's very disrespectful.
Right?
So now you're not standing before the Queen,
you're standing before the King of Kings, Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. So you have to show
more respect to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Some
people when they pray, and they don't want
to miss this, their hockey game for example,
and
of course some delay their salah just to
watch a game until the time is over,
but they don't want to miss any movement
in the game. So they stand in front
of the TV,
and they watch, and every time there is
an attack or a goal they go like,
oh, oh, like
Because they are not focusing in the salah,
they are in the game itself. Right? So
they're not paying attention.
So how do you focus?
Three things. Before salah, during salah, and after
salah. People think for sure comes only in
salah. To focus in salah, before salah,
every time you pray namaz, salah, salah tudha,
in your heart you feel like, You Allah,
I'm please give me life till next salah
to get the reward. And the prophet
says, if this is your intention,
the 3 4 hours between Dor and Ask,
you'll get the reward as if you stood
in salah.
This is one thing.
People delay the salah, they don't pray at
the beginning of time, which is like
the 1 hour or half an hour before
the salah, depends on which salah. They delay
until the end of time, and they go
make will do very quick, and you know
the salah very quick because they are afraid
the time will be over, so he can't
focus.
So the one of the things to do
is to pray at the beginning of time,
and make Hashurah properly.
You don't rush to the washroom, you know,
spray everything in yellow, and some people do
it because they are in a rush, and
they go, and they don't clean themselves properly.
They make wudu in a rush, they wash
only half of the organs, they make salah,
they forget like 2 rakas in salah, they
don't say Farah.
No. Take your time because this is what
you were created for. 4 namaz, 4 salah.
But now sometimes we're relegated
to 5th or 10th place in our life,
and it is supposed to be number 1.
So So this is what
happens. So get ready for Salah properly, and
when you stand before Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
and raise your hands and say Allahu Akbar,
we don't say Allahu Kabir,
Allah is great, we say Allahu Akbar, like
the big the greatest.
Why? Because if whatever you are
doing, you're doing your homework,
a video game,
you're doing that, you're at work, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala is bigger than that. He is
the greatest. He's greater than your work, He's
greater than your money. So go make salah,
money can wait, homework can wait, video games
can wait, but salah cannot wait. You know,
finish salah and come back and pray. So
when you say Allahu Akbar,
you throw the world behind your back, it's
very symbolic, you throw the world behind your
back, Allahu Akbar, and you're standing in front
of Allah and pray.
So Hadam Al Asam, he was asked,
how can I maintain my Fushur and Salah?
And he said, there are a few things
I do, and maybe if you do them
they will help you inshallah. So when I
pray,
I imagine that I'm standing in front of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
and Kaaba is right there in front of
me, and the world is behind my back,
Jannah to my right, Jahannan to my left,
Sirat is under my feet, and Malakul Maut,
the Angel of death is over my head,
is about to take my soul. So this
is like my last salah, and after I
finish I'm not sure if my salah is
accepted or thrown back in my face. And
this is how I pray.
So it will help me to improve all
the time.
So this is how I should feel, someone
will say, well okay if you are thinking
about Allah, about Jannah, Jahannam, Day of Judgment,
salah, how can you focus in salah?
Right? It's a good question,
but if you focus in the ayat you
read in the Quran,
whatever you recite in Fatiha Surah after, this
is what you, you know, the ayat talk
about in the Quran. It either talks about
Allah,
this, Jannah, Hissab, Jannah. This is what the
Quran talks about, so it means that he
was focused in salah, he didn't actually
lose his focus.
So you understand who you're standing in front
of, you understand the value and the significance
of salah, and you keep your eyes, your
where you look in the place where you
make sajdah, as the prophet
said. Because if you look around,
subhanAllah, sometimes we have paintings in our homes,
sometimes we have things,
you know, and and when you keep your
eyes open like this, and you look in
front of you, or people are walking, you
can't focus in the salah.
Especially if you have pictures in the house,
and some people keep their marriage portrayed in
the living room, and every time they make
salah they look at the picture and say,
why did I ever make this mistake? You
know?
And they keep thinking about this every time
they see the picture, and of course this
happens in the salah.
Right?
And and so keep your eyes where you
keep you do your sujood, and this will
help you make the focus in the salah.
The last thing I want to say in
the last, minutes of the life of this
Khutba,
it is also very important to maintain you
for sure after salah.
How? By doing the sunnah salah after the
Nawafil,
doing the Alkar,
and so on and so forth, and most
importantly,
Shaitan will always attack you.
Shaitan is not happy. Shaitan is mad every
time you make a serdah. Why?
Because he was told to make serjah, he
refused. You make serjah, you pray.
So shaitan is very smart. As you say
in word to shaitan, a common pa you
know, shaitan taste a common egg. Shaitan is
very smart. What he does he do? He
would say, I cannot stop him or her
from praying, I will live and pray,
but I will just destroy the reward of
the salah. I would tell them for example,
there is no Fashurah in salah, don't pray.
Your salah is not good enough. Delay salah.
I would distract their attention in salah, so
there's no reward for them.
There's a hadith from the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam, Sahih Al Jami.
The prophet says, in this authentic hadith
some people pray,
but they might get 1 tenth of their
work, or 1 8th, or 1 7th, or
1 6th, 1 5th, 1 quarter,
1 half, or 1 third. It depends on
how focused you are in the salah. So
the more you focus, the more rewards you
get.
So shaitan might take hold of you and
say, well, oh man, like you always lose
your focus in the salah. Don't pray.
Stop praying because you're just wasting your time.
Just, you know, I love you, just stop
praying,
and once InshaAllah, you get a degree in
salah, you're able to maintain your for sure,
you can pray. Because now, right now, the
way I see it, and I love you,
you are wasting your time. So don't listen
to shaitan. Even some people, and they
always lose their focus, you know, in the
salah, so they make Hudu like 15 times.
You know, they just came from the washroom,
they made wudu, they go back, make another
wudu, make another wudu, make another, they forget.
And they stand in the salah, the first
rakah, the whole time they're thinking about,
did I do wudu or not? They did
already 15.
2nd Rakah.
Oh, SubhanAllah, I was thinking about to do
the 1st Rakah, maybe I forgot to say
Fazaha.
2nd Rakah is gone.
3rd Rakah. Oh, what is gone? Is it
the 3rd Rakah in Durr or 4th or
5th? I don't know. So the whole salah
is messed up. So don't listen to shaitaan,
try to focus, understand the significance and the
value of salah, and at the end of
the day, Wallahi in Jannah InshaAllah in Afrah,
the most the the most important thing or
the thing that you will get more hasanat
for, is a bada in connection with Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Anything else,
the homework, the video games, running around, playing
soccer, all this would be gone. What would
be left for you is your namaz.
And as I said, the prophet
said, this is the most important thing, this
is your connection with
Again, if you see a spot in front
of you, move up. Jazakkumullah
khairan.
