Yeah. In Arabi niyyah
means intention.
So for example, before you pray, you have
the intention in your heart. You don't have
to say it out loud.
In your heart,
you intend to make salah when you go
for Hajj, when you give salatah, and so
on and so forth. You have the intention
to do something good.
And,
a lot of books of hadith, like Rialu
Salih in the first sorry.
The book of Al Narbayin and Nahuya, for
example. When they start the book, they always
start with this hadith,
Rasool Allah Subha Sallam. It says,
You get the reward for your deeds based
on your intentions.
Sometimes you will do some good things, and
you will not get anything at the end.
Why? Because your intention was not good.
Maybe you're showing off,
you know, you're looking down upon people, you
will not get the reward for your good
deeds.
So what will determine how much or how
many good deeds you will get in Afra
is your your good intentions.
Sometimes when we look at someone, we see
something,
we feel like it is something bad, but
Allah knows
that it is something good.
And sometimes you see something good, but in
actuality, it is something bad. I'll give you
a couple of examples.
Maybe if I can get,
this brother here.
Yeah.
Like this brother is standing
right there
in the sidewalk,
and I push him, fall down on the
floor.
Yes.
Is this good or bad?
Bad. In
actuality, it's a good thing because there was
a car coming towards him to hit him,
and I pushed him to save his life.
This is the only way.
And another
example, maybe we'll get this sister.
Yes?
You give I'm not gonna push you. Okay?
You give food to this sister,
give her a sandwich.
Right? Masha'Allah. Eat it.
Good thing. Right?
But she put a lot of spices inside,
and she knows that the sister is allergic
to spices.
You know, so the food
tasted like Jahannam.
Right? Everybody, the sister had allergy,
and her face
her face
So, again, my point is
shit. Do you get my point? Yeah. Sometimes
you see something, you think it's bad, but
Allah knows that it is something good. And
you see something, you think it's good, but
Allah knows it is bad.
Even in in when someone is making tauba
when someone is making tauba
and they express their remorse, they feel bad
about it,
maybe Allah will not accept their tawba because
their intention is not good.
Right? So say for example, if I did
something terrible, I pushed someone or I did
something bad, and I said sorry, and yes,
I said you Allah forgive me, and Allah
knows that my intention is sincere, He will
forgive me. But sometimes because my intention is
not good, Allah will not forgive me. For
example,
in Surah
when Khabil killed Habil, the children 2 children
of Adam, one of them killed the other.
At the end of the Surah,
actually the story in Surah Maidah, it says,
He became regretful and remorseful.
But Allah didn't forgive him. Why?
Because his remorse
is not for killing his brother, he didn't
feel sorry for killing his own brother, but
he felt sorry
because he couldn't find a way to hide,
or to cover his crime
just like the crow did. Because the crow
started to dig a grave and buried another
crow, he he said, you know, I'm I'm
less intelligent than this crow. And this is
why he felt sorry because he was not
intelligent enough.
And this is why
his regret
was not enough for him to be forgiven.
Right? So it's not it's not for a
good thing, for the good reason. This reminds
me of a story that happened in China
so many years ago that,
a group of thieves
robbed the bank.
So they took about, you know, a big
chunk of money, and they left, and they
went to the mountains.
And,
one of them needed money so badly,
so he said to the ringleader, I need
a lot of money because I'm in debt.
I need money. So can you give me,
like, a $100,000
and I can take the risk later? He
He said, no. We have to wait
to,
to count the money.
So the guy started to cry. So someone
from the group
said, are you crying because you feel sorry
that we stop we robbed the bank? He
said, no. I'm crying because I have to
wait for a long time to take money.
So another person said, you're an idiot. We
don't have to wait a long time or
anything. Just turn on the news.
In about half an hour, they will say,
well, $5,000,000
were
were robbed from the bank, because he thought
they had to wait for about a week
to count all the money. So the guy
said, no. No. No. We don't have to
wait that long. They were just saying the
news in about half an hour how much
was stolen, so we don't have to count
anything. They would do the job for us.
Right? So a smart guy.
So the niyyah, the intention is very important.
When you do something, you do it
you feel it in your heart, then you
get the reward. But if you do it
just to show off,
so people will say you're a good person,
mashaAllah, you're very knowledgeable, you're very generous, no
reward for you. Because you already got the
reward in dunya. People will say things,
and this is in Hadith and at Tirmidhi.
On the day of judgment, people will come,
and
they ask for the reward, and Allah will
tell them you did good things in dunya,
so people will say you are generous. You
already got your reward in dunya. I have
no reward for you. You already got your
reward.
So keep in mind that intention is a
very good thing.
And for you to get the reward for
your Ibadah, you have to have
sorry.
You have to have the intention
for this Ibadah to be accepted. I'll give
you one example and I'll conclude with this
Insha'Allah.
There was a fund raise
for the masjid, for the school, and they
were collecting funds.
And there was a guy sitting in the
front,
and, he had about $500 in his pocket.
He had money, Allah gave him money, he
had a good job and everything. He was
able to pay money, like he could he
could have easily paid the $500.
No problem.
So what happened, he was not willing to
give anything.
People in front of him, behind him, they
were paying.
They were somebody was walking around with a
box, and people were putting money in the
box, $20,
1,200.
Everyone put whatever they could afford.
So he didn't take the money out of
his pocket and put it in in the
box. Instead, he put his hand in his
pocket, he took his cell phone out, and
he started to play video games or something.
Someone from behind him, from the road behind
him, they were sitting in line, so someone
from behind him gave him a $100,
to put them in the box. So he
took the money, he put it in the
box, and he looked at the money and
he counted the 500. This is a lot
of money. So he turned around and he
said to the brother, an old man behind
him, thank you masha Allah
for this, generosity.
So the man said, no, don't thank me.
Thank you.
Because what happened,
when he took his cell phone out,
he dropped the money from his own pocket.
$500 fell down.
So the gentleman from behind him took the
500, gave them to him, his own money.
So the guy took them thinking that they
belong to the guy behind him, and he
took the money in the box.
And of course, when the man told him,
this is your own money,
the brother is still at the hospital. He
had a heart attack. You know?
So we ask Allah
to give us a good intention and give
us sincerity for everything we say and do.
See you tomorrow inshallah. Exactly.
