I bear witness that there is no worthy
of our worship except Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And I bear witness that Muhammad Sallallahu Wa
Ta'ala is the seal of the prophets and
the final messenger
to all of humanity. Whoever Allah
guides, there's none to misguide.
And whomever Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala leaves to
go astray, there's none to guide.
So in the last kutba, we spoke about
Arluwul Ilhamdulillimna, to have a goal in life
and you try to achieve it. You try
to improve yourself,
to think big
in this life, to achieve happiness and salvation
in the next life.
A few weeks ago, a new Israel year
began,
and in a few days, a new Gregorian
year will begin.
So this is a good time to think
and reflect on your life, to see whether
you're doing good in this life or not.
We spoke about this a long time ago,
last year.
But today, we'll talk from a completely different
perspective.
The opposite of Arluwul Hima that we spoke
about last time is a disease
that infects the heart, and it is called
Ghafla,
heedlessness.
So if someone lives in this dunya and
they're not paying attention,
this is called Ghafla.
The prophet, salaam, says in the authentic hadith
al Bukhari and Muslim that the most important
organ in the body is the heart.
So the prophet, salaam, says that there is
a peace in the body.
If it sound and healthy, everything else is
healthy.
But if it is messed up, everything else
is corrupted. And the prophet
says, this is the heart.
To change and to flip. And the prophet
says in the authentic hadith inside Muslim
that the hearts of the people are between
the fingers of Allah and he flips them
as he wants.
The second type is the sick heart, and
this is the heart of a disobedient
Muslim.
And number 3,
the dead heart, and this is the heart
of a Kapil or someone who does not
obey Allah
in a way.
So if you read in the Quran, Allah
tells us
that it is not the eyes that are
blind, it is the hearts. The hearts that
are blind.
In another verse, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says
that some people have hearts, but they cannot
think with their hearts.
So it is not only the brain that
does the same thinking, it is the heart
too that does the thinking and the reflection
as Allah
says in the Quran.
So the scholars say, why our hearts become?
They say there are different reasons. Number 1,
when you do remember Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
you don't think of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And number 2,
when you don't think of death, that one
day you will die and you stand before
Allah
for judgment.
So if you have this thinking,
your heart will always be alive.
And number 3,
because
sins have become a routine to you. A
routine.
And they say the first time you do
a sin like anything,
drinking or anything you are not supposed to
do, the first time you do it,
you have sleepless nights. You feel remorseful and
regretful.
But after you do the same thing for
7 or 10 times in a row, it
becomes like a routine to you. You you
don't feel anything. You don't feel regretful.
So a few examples to test yourself to
see if you have buffalo or not, heedlessness.
Number 1,
if the time of Salah is over, say
for example, you didn't pray above you're doing
something else. You're
playing,
you're studying, you're at work, and you didn't
pray, Lord, and the time is over. What
do you feel in your heart? Do you
feel regretful or it's okay to you? If
it's okay to you, then you have a
problem.
Also, when you are standing in the line
behind the imam, and he is reading emotional
verses about death, about punishment, or anything,
and some people are crying in the line,
and you wonder why why are these people
crying? What's wrong with them? No. The question
is, what's wrong with
you? And also, if you are standing in
the masjid and there is a Janazah passing
by,
and you can tell you talking to your
friends, and I see this sometimes,
and you start cracking jokes
as if death does not mean anything to
you.
So this reminds me of a story that
I heard about a guy who is sitting
at, Tim Hortons drinking tea, fresh vanilla. Okay.
Sorry. Fresh vanilla.
So somebody came to him and said, what
do you have to like? Your wife is
giving birth. She's in her 9th month. He
doesn't have a car, and he couldn't wait
for the bus to come, so he started
to run to the house.
And after 3, 4 minutes of running, he
stopped and he started to think, what's going
on here? My wife is not in the
7th month. She's in the 3rd month of
pregnancy.
Then he started to run again. Then after
a few minutes of running, he stopped, and
he said,
my wife is not pregnant.
Then he started to run again to the
house, and he started and he said, what's
going on here? Am I getting old or
what?
I'm not married.
Then he started to run again, then he
said,
My name is not Abdullahi.
Then he went back. So this is the
kind of ghafna that I'm talking about.
If you are now
what you were 5 or 7 years ago,
this is nothin. This is heedlessness. What do
you you call as student in the 9th
grade who remains in the 9th grade for
5 years?
What do you call
it?
I don't know. But
there's something wrong here. So if you are
now what you were 5 years ago, then
there's something wrong. If you still make the
same mistakes in salah or wudu or you
still read Quran and you are Arab
So we conclude with this story to explain
the meaning of Ghafya.
Imam,
Ibrahim ibn Adam was walking in the streets
of Basra in Iraq one day, so people
stopped him. And they said, what is wrong
with our hearts?
We read the Quran and we don't feel
anything. We make sense and we don't feel
regretful. So what is wrong with us?
So he told them, your hearts died, your
hearts have because of 10 things.
Count with me.
Number 1, you claim that Allah you love
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala that you disobey him
all the time. If you truly love him,
you have to obey him. If Allah tells
you to go to the right, you go
to the left. He tells you to go
up, you go down. So what kind of
love is this?
Number 2, you eat from the risk of
Allah
every day, and you never thank him.
And number 3, you claim that the prophet
salaam is your guide, and you never follow
his soonness.
And number 4, you read the Quran all
the time, and you never listen to the
Quran, you don't obey it, you don't practice
it.
And number 5, you say that Shaytan is
your enemy, and you take him as a
friend.
And number 6,
you say with your times that
Jannah is the truth, it is coming, and
you never do anything to deserve Jannah.
And number 7, you claim that the hellfire
is the truth, and you never do anything
to protect yourself from it.
And number 8, you claim that number 7,
you claim that or 8 8,
that death is the truth, and you never
get ready for it. You never prepare yourself
for death.
And number 9, you bury people every day,
and you never Yeah. And you put in
your head that one day you will be
in that place too. So you bury people,
but you never think that your day will
come too. And the last one, you're busy
with your yourself thinking about the problems of
other people, their defects and shortcomings and problems.
You criticize them, and you never get the
time to think about your own problems.
So this guy used to say, well, life,
I think about my problems and I try
to fix them. Well, like, I will never
have time to think about other people's problems.
So we said that one of the reasons
why people have Ghafla is that they don't
think of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. They don't
remember him as if he doesn't exist.
So part of the solution is to think
of Allah
and reflect on him.
And by remembering Allah, you don't necessarily mean
that you just mentioned the names of Allah.
No. You have to live them, and you
have to practice them. So if you know
that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is the provider,
this is the name of Allah, so you
have to practice it.
Always put in your mind that Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala is the provider,
not your husband,
not your
boss, not the government. Allah
is the provider. Anything else is just that
means
the FedEx people that Allah
sends you the risk through them. Okay? So
Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, is the provider. If
you know that Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, is
Al Basir, he knows everything.
So every time you do something wrong, you
have to keep in your mind that Allah
is watching right there. And if you can't
see him,
he sees you.
If you know that Allah
is the forgiving and he is the stern
in punishment,
so you have to act accordingly.
So this is the meaning of remembering Allah.
And number 2,
So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says,
obey Allah obey Allah and his Prophet, and
this will give life to you and to
your hearts. So the answer is in the
Quran.
And the scholar said, why should you listen
to Allah and his Prophet?
Because every time Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells
you to do something good,
it is good for you. You are not
going to benefit Allah in any way, you
only benefit yourself.
So every time
you make wudu, what is wrong with this?
Every time you read the Quran, every time
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala asks you to give
a salah or say good words to people,
what is wrong with this? Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala, his prophet never asked you to do
something that is harmful or something bad.
And also, every time Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and his prophet
ask you to refrain from something because it
is bad to you.
When Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells you not
to drink
or to
to to drink alcohol or to eat pork
or to commit adultery
or to hashish and so on and so
forth. Every time Allah
asks you to refrain from something because it
is good to you. Allah
will never ask you to stop doing something
good
or not to do something bad.
Whatever he asks you or commands you to
refrain from, it is always good for you.
That's Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala.
