In the name of Allah, the most gracious,
most merciful,
all praise is due to Allah
We praise him, and we seek his forgiveness
and assistance,
and we take refuge in him from the
evils of ourselves and our shortcomings.
Whomever Allah guides, there is none to this
guide, and whomever Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala leaves
to go astray, there is none to guide.
I bear witness that there is none worthy
of our worship except Allah
and I bear witness that Muhammad
is the seal of the prophets and the
final messenger
to all humanity.
Hadithul
So today, inshallah, we'll be talking about this
concept of Hayat
that many people don't have and many people
know about, but they don't exercise.
And this concept of Hayat
doesn't have an equivalence in English, but the
closest
translation is a sense of shame
that you have, who you feel when you
do something that you're not supposed to do,
or you don't some do something that you
should do.
So one of the attributes of Allah
is hayat. This is one of his attributes
that Allah
has hayat.
When you raise up your hands asking him
for something,
he doesn't turn you empty hand. You always
come back with something because
Allah has this quality, khal.
1 hayal,
It is also one of the qualities of
the prophet, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. He has
that sense of shame.
So in the Musaiti Hadid al Bukhari, the
prophet, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, had khayah
more than the burden in her house. He
had that sense of shame.
So this guy has classified kaya into 3
times.
Haya,
the sense of shame that you have from
Allah,
and kaya from the people that you don't
do something in front of them that is
shameful.
What kaya from
yourself. You don't do something that doesn't suit
you.
All these three types were mentioned in a
book by Sheikh Mustafa Sibam, may Allah curse
on his soul.
This is how life taught me. This is
the title of the book in English. So
he said, if you intend
to do something wrong,
remember
Allah. If you still wanna go ahead and
do the wrong after remembering Allah, remember the
people and what they will say about you.
If you still wanna go ahead and do
the wrong,
then
sorry to say you have become a donkey.
With all apologies to donkeys.
So he is saying, basically, you have no
shame of yourself, you have no shame from
the people, no shame from Allah. Do whatever
you want.
And
So kaya from Allah is mentioned in an
authentic Hadith, several ones. And haya here means
you don't do something that Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala does not want you to do.
So, for example, the prophet says in this
rathitic hadith, in Sayyatul Mibik, the prophet was
telling the sahabah, you have to have haya
from Allah,
the best
way. So they said, how can we do
that? So the prophet said,
maintain the head and everything in it, and
maintain the abdomen or the stomach and everything
in it.
And you have to remember death and the
next life. So this is the meaning of
khayat from
So the meaning of a hadith is you're
not supposed to use your head or any
organ in it or your abdomen
or any organ in it in doing the
Haram because this is not what Allah created
these organs for. So for example, you don't
use your tongue to say Haram or to
lie or cheat.
You don't use your eyes to look at
something haram.
You don't eat. What is haram? You don't
commit adultery. These are the organs, for example,
of the head and the abdomen.
When the karmal has involved it,
So this story summarizes Hayat from Allah The
story of Ibrahim ibn Adil. A man came
to him and said, I'm up to my
ears and sense.
And I want you to give me,
a prescription,
something that I remember when I tried to
do the sin, and I will quit the
sin. He said, number 1,
if you want to disobey Allah, don't eat
from his from his provision because you should
have from him. How can you eat from
his provision?
You live in his house.
You use his money. You use his car,
and you disobey him. Number 2. If you
want to disobey Allah, don't live in his
kingdom.
Go live somewhere else.
Number 3, if you want to disobey Allah,
disobey him in a place where he's not
able to see you.
Number 4, if you live a life of
sin and the angels of death come to
tell you, son,
don't die.
Number 5, if you die in that position
and they come on the day of judgement
to take you to the hellfire for punishment,
tell them I ain't coming with you or
I'm I'm not going with you.
So he said, how can I do this?
So he said, subhanallah, aren't you ashamed to
live in his land, eat from his provisions?
He sees you day and night.
You cannot stop death. You cannot stop the
agents of death, but you still disobeyed him,
so he said, I will give up.
So the second time,
hayah from the people, a man came to
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam asking for
advice.
So the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam says,
the best advice I give you is to
have hayah from Allah, just like you have
hayah from the good people in your community.
So,
the hayah from the people, when you do
something wrong
and you are ashamed to do it and
righteous people or good people in the community
see you, like the imam or anyone else.
And they told me a long time ago
when I was a student that one of
our friends, he was walking in the street
with a cigarette in his hand,
and all of a sudden, he saw the
teacher coming toward him. So he didn't have
time to throw it away, but he basically
did. He put it in his pocket.
So his pocket was burned and his thigh
was burned.
So that was the time when they used
to, respect the Bashayim, the scholars, and the
teachers.
So the third type is khal from yourself.
When you do something wrong and it doesn't
suit you, like hanging out with the girls,
smoking stuff, drinking stuff, going to places you're
not supposed to go, you have to have
a shame from yourself.
You have to be ashamed of yourself
before Allah and before the people.
So the third type is, hayat from yourself.
And this hadith that we mentioned
the prophet
says, if you don't have hayat, if you
don't have shame,
do whatever you want. And this hadith is
mentioned in the story of Abu Hanabi, one
of the most famous scholars of hadith that
you've ever heard of. His name is Sabtay
Nabeem. He was sitting he was a youth
sitting in front of his house. He was
a drunkard.
He had the bottle of wine in the
right hand and the knife in the left
hand. He saw a man on the donkey,
and people walking behind the donkey and holding
the donkey from the rope and everything.
He said, who who is this guy? Who
is this guy? Let me check him out.
So he said, who is this guy? They
said, this is Shorbagd al Hajjaz.
They said he said, I don't know him.
Who is this guy? I don't know him.
They said, subhanallah, this is Shorbagdul Hajjaz, the
the number one scholar in Hadith. This is
just like going to Spain and asking who
is,
missing.
Barcelona. We're going to New York and saying
who is Michael Jackson, for example. Everybody should
know him.
You know. So he said, I don't know
him. He said, this is the scholar of
Hadith.
So the man said to Karabe, he said,
please teach me Hadith from the prophet.
He had the bottle of
wine in one hand and denied the meal.
They said, may Allah put you to shame.
People travel for hundreds of miles to study
hadith from him. You're coming with a bottle
of wine to take hadith from him? So
he said,
well, lie. If he doesn't teach me what
hadith now, I'm gonna stab him to death.
So the shaykh got afraid for himself.
Sometimes,
the bravest thing he can do is to
be a coward, and the most eloquent thing
he can say is to be quiet. And
all the brothers who are married know this.
So the hadith was the message the hadith
I gave you from the prophet is
if you are not ashamed,
do what I mean.
So the the bottle of wine fell from
his hand. He went to his house. He
broke all the bottle of wine because he
felt like I don't have shame from myself.
I don't have shame from the people. No
shame from Allah. He traveled all the way
from Iraq to Madina to study good mani
ibn al-'Aas, Rahim Abu Allah, and he, this
man Abdul Kalani, became a scholar of hadith.
And interestingly
enough, he became the teacher of Imam Bukhari
and Imam Muslim in Hadith.
Most of the hadith they collected, they got
from this man. Because of a word, a
sincere word of advice, he got from this
man, mrsula Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, yawfarla, rubbana, salallahu
I'm gonna just give a few examples of
the lack of Hayat.
Number 1, with some brothers, they come to
the masjid with hanging pants, and when they
make ruku'ah sujood, people see their bottom, man,
in in the salah.
And the salah is not acceptable when people
can see your private parts. So you have
to be careful about this. Number 2, some
people, they are intimate with their spouses,
then they go outside and broadcast
whatever they did with their spouse. And this
is halal.
Number 3, for example, when people,
they broadcast
the wrong they have done.
Yeah. They are proud of the sin.
They go to their friends and they say,
yesterday, man, I went to the movies with
that girl, man, and we smoked stuff, man.
So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala covered you out
of his mercy when you did something wrong,
but you you just you exposed yourself.
So you shouldn't keep the cover the cover
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala have put on
you. People screaming in the masjid,
phones ringing in the salah, people coming to
salatuljanazah,
and this is the only time you see
them in the ear. And some even come
and stay outside, and they smoke cigarettes, and
they throw the cigarette butts on the stairs,
and they don't even pray salatuljanazah.
Sayyid,
So to maintain and develop that sense of
Hayat, we're gonna give you a few tips.
Maybe we'll continue some other time. Number 1,
you have to realize that Allah sees you
at all times.
You just imagine that there is a camera
at your work, in the school, in the
street, wherever you go, there's a camera.
This is how
Allah sees you. If you remember this, you
will behave.
Number 2, you have to remember the sin
you committed, and this will put you to
shame.
The problem is most of the time, we
forget our sins
and we think that we're okay. We will
not be punished because we forgot the sin.
It's not true. And the scholars say
the hardship
of doing any of that acts of worship
will go away, but their word will stay
forever.
And the pleasure of committing sins will go
away,
then the punishment will be there forever.
So they mentioned the story of Adam Alaihi
Salam in Jannah with after he ate from
the tree. He started to run-in Jannah and
hide.
So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala had called him,
what are you doing?
You can't run. You can't hide from me.
He said, oh, Allah, I'm not running away
from you, but I'm ashamed of what I
have done. I don't like to be in
the place where I disobeyed you.
Number 1. When you say a word of
truth. You shouldn't be ashamed from the truth.
Number 2. When you do ask some questions,
you shouldn't be ashamed of doing something good,
like Zakat charity, even if the people,
see you.
Number 3, you shouldn't be ashamed when you
ask the shayd about something that you need
to know. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
said in an authentic hadith, 2 people will
never learn, those who are shy to ask
and those who are arrogant.
How can I go and ask Sheikh, man?
He is 35 years old and I'm civil.
Or how can I ask him if I
have a PhD in mechanical engineering and he
doesn't have a PhD yet?
You shouldn't. You should ask if you don't
know. Does Allah
