Mustafa Khattab – Getting The Best Out Of 10 ZulHijjah

I bear witness that there's none worthy of
our worship except Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And I bear witness that Muhammad is
the seal of the prophets and the final
messenger to all of humanity.
Whoever Allah
guides, there is none to misguide. And whoever
Allah
leaves astray, there is none to guide aright.
So inshaAllah, the focus for the Fakkal today
will be the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah,
and how we can maximize our Hasanat.
It's the Sunnah of Allah
to send
all these, special times, to give us a
way, to give us a boost in the
situation we have, to boost our iman,
and,
to, make it easy for us to get
close to Him. So Allah
would send the month of Ramadan,
on an annual basis, He will send an
annual boost, the month of Ramadan,
and He will send the 10 days of
Juhijja, which are about to start insha'Allah.
And also, he would send the Laylatul Qadr
on an annual basis every year. And Allah
would send the day of Arafah, the greatest
day of the year,
which will be the 11th this year, insha'Allah.
It's gonna be a Sunday.
And Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, would send us
a boost on a weekly basis, which is
the day of Jum'ah, and so on and
so forth. Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, will send
us a boost every day,
which is, for example, the last part of
the night, when you pray, you make dua,
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will say,
Whatever you ask for, I give it to
you.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will give you a
boost 5 times a day. Every time you
pray, you put your forehead on the ground,
you say, Yeah Allah, He give it to
you. So Allah
is boosting your iman all the time, on
an annual basis, a monthly basis, a weekly
basis, a daily basis,
and so on and so forth. So before
I talk about the 10 days of the
hija, I'm gonna start with this, story.
They say that a man
fell in a well, a hole that was
365
feet deep.
And the people tried to save him. They
started to throw ropes, so they take him
out, and they say that so many ropes
came down, and eventually the guy took the
strongest one of them, and he put it
around his neck. So by the time they
pulled him out, he was dead.
How? Well, this is exactly like the year,
365
days. We make mistakes day and night. We're
not perfect. We're not angels. So Allah
is sending these ropes to save us. Ramadan,
Laylatul Qadr, the 10 of the hija, the
day of Arafah, the namaz, the sahar before
fash, and so on and so forth. So
what we do? Many of us, we just
take the rope, put it around our necks,
by doing more Sayy'al, by committing more sins,
in the month of Ramadan,
in the last ten, in the 10th of
Dhul Hijjah, and on the day of Arafah.
Some people don't care.
Allah is sending us all these blessings, but
some people don't care. They put the robe
around their necks by doing more Sayyah, by
displeasing Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala more. So they
don't take advantage
of this, safety,
rope that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is sending
to them. So the smart person,
The
person who takes advantage of these special times,
to get close to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, Absaam Bin Ashfir Ramadan.
Wa Fajri Walayalilin Ash. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
swore
by these 10 days, which are to start
tomorrow insha'Allah, and continue till the, 10th, the
11th
of this month, September, insha'Allah.
So,
if Allah swears
by something, it means that this is a
very special thing. Allah
swears by al fajr, He swears by the
sun, He swears by the moon, He swears
by the life of Muhammad Allah
swears
by
the
life of Muhammad. Allah swears by the life
of Muhammad, and this is the only time
in the Quran where Allah
swears by the life of a human being.
Because it is so precious to Allah swears.
And Nabi al SAW Alaihi wa sallam your
poem from Hadith al Quffari of your writing,
imaminalayamin
alaamalasali
for
There are no days
in which the deeds are more beloved to
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala than these 10 days
of their hija.
Why?
So Ibn Hajjar, when he explained
why these 10 days,
of the Hajj are the best, of course,
everyone knows that the last 10 nights of
Ramadan are the best nights
because of
But the 10 days of the Hijjah, they
are the best because of the day of
Araf. So these are the best nights, but
the Hijjah, they are the best days.
Right? Why? He said because in the 10
of the Hijjah, you do some certain Rebada,
that you don't do any other time.
Yes, we pray all year long, we give
Zakah, we give sadaqa,
we fasten in the month of Ramadan,
but in addition to these things, we do
these things also in the month of Dhul
Hijjah, you fast,
the day of Arafa, and any other day
during the 1st night. You give Sadaka, you
pray, but you also do Hajj. This is
something you don't do any time else in
the year. You give Ochayah for Bani, and
this is something you don't do any other
time in the year, and this is why
these days are special.
If we talk for example about some of
the special Ibadat like Hajj.
So, the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah,
every year, 3 to 5000000 people gather in
Makkah for the Hajj. And this is the
largest
religious gathering
in the whole world. And you see people
coming from all directions, from Japan, from Pakistan,
from Brazil,
from South Africa, from Latin America, from all
over the world, and they get together like
brothers and sisters.
It's a rehearsal for the Day of Judgment.
Everyone is next to each other. The rich
next to the poor, the president next to
the farmer, everyone is together before Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala. They're all equal. So this is
a reminder of the equality
of,
the people in the side of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala So the Alama' say the reason
why Hajj is very special because it's the
combination of the Ibarat in Islam, the combination,
the perfection
of the 5 pillars of Islam.
So they say, this is why when someone
becomes Muslim,
Alhamdulillah, right before salah, 5 minutes before we
started the Khutbah, one brother came forward and
he took
shahara.
So alhamdulillah, in the month of August,
9 people have taken shahara in this masjid.
9 people. So we ask Allah
to guide people to Islam, and to keep
them on the Surat al Mustafiem, InshaAllah.
So when someone takes Shahada,
we don't give call them with a shahid.
When someone prays, we don't call them Musali
Fulan, Musali Ibrahim.
When one gives Zakah, we don't call them
Muzaki.
When someone fouls, we don't call them,
Sa'im Fulan
with their name. But when someone does the
Hajj, we call them Hajjifulan.
Hajj Ibrahim, Hajj Mostafa, because they have completed
their 5 pillars, and now their faith, or
the 5 pillars are perfect in the sight
of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
But Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala knows that not
every one of us would be go be
able to go to Makkah for the Hajj.
Right? If there are 1,600,000,000
Muslims,
how many of them will be able to
go for the Hajj?
Only those who are able to afford
the Hajj, they have the physical and the
financial ability to go, they can do it.
But the great majority of Muslims will not
be able to do the Hajj.
And this is why
So this is why Allah
He knows that most people will not be
able to go for the Hajj. So He
gives you some opportunities, some things that if
you do, you will get the reward of
Hajj even without going. I'll give you a
few from the Sunnah, authentic Hadith.
So the first one is Sahih al Midi.
The Prophet
says
So the Prophet SAW says if you pray
Fazl I Jama'ah
and you sit and remember Allah until sunrise,
then you pray Turak Adoha or Ishraq, you
will get the reward of Hajj and Umrah,
pilgrimage and Umrah. Complete, complete, complete. It's an
authentic Hadith.
The Ulamah is saying this also applies to
the sisters
who pray at home because they can't come
to the house, the kids and the house.
If they pray in Jannah with their kids
at home, and they remember Allah, they pray
to the rakah after sunrise, they'll give the
same reward like,
the brothers who come to the Masjid or
pray whatever they are.
In Lafani in Abu al Masjid
al
Masjid
al
Masjid
al Masjid al Masjid al Masjid al Masjid
al Masjid al Masjid al Masjid al Masjid
al Masjid al Masjid al Masjid
al
The Prophet said, if you if you make
wudu at home,
if you make wudu at home, it's in
Muslim, Abu Dawood.
If you make wudu at home and come
to the masjid for salah, like Jum'ah, any
other salah, Allah will give you the reward
of Hajj. He makes it very easy for
you.
The Prophet SAW says in this authentic hadith,
if you go to the Masjid
to gain some knowledge or to teach knowledge
like you come for a class or halakal
or foot to listen,
or to teach someone to read Quran, someone
to make salah, then Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
will give you the word of Hajj. So
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala makes it very easy
for you, because some of us, they don't
have the money to go, their hearts will
be broken, and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is
telling you, No, don't worry.
I got your back. You can get the
reward even without leaving your house.
It is similar in reward, but the honor
of Hajj, if you actually take the journey
and go, this is a different level. But
again, Allah
to make it easy for you to feel
good, because you don't have the means to
go, He makes it easy for you Alhamdulillah.
But, please don't go around, if you play
a dua like after sunrise and dhikr, or
if you come to the Masjid for the
Halakah,
or you go to Umrah for Hajj, sorry,
Umrah Ramadan,
and, don't go around asking people to call
you Hajji, right? No, you don't have the
title. You go, you get the title if
you actually take the journey and go. But
if you do it here, Isha'at and come
to the Masjid, no no. You get the
similar reward, but you don't get this, title,
insha'Allah.
Also the day of Arafah, which is the
best day in the whole year.
And Laylatul Qadr is the best night in
the whole year.
Fil Hadith,
Fisayikh Muslim, wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim,
wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim,
wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim,
wafi Muslim, wafi Muslim, wafi
So in this authentic hadith in Muslim,
Abu Dawood and the other books of Surah,
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will look at the
people who are trying to get close to
him and get their sins forgiven on the
day of Arafah,
by fasting, by doing Hajj on Arafah, and
so on and so forth. And Allah
will draw near his servants,
and Allah will boast of them in front
of the Malaika,
and Allah will ask them, Malaika, what do
they want from me? Why are they fasting?
Why are they doing Hajj? They say, You
Allah, because they want your forgiveness. So Allah
will tell them, bear witness that I have
forgiven all of them. But the Malaygul said,
But You Allah, there are some of them,
they have a lot of sins.
Their back, there are burdens of sins on
their backs. What about them? Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala will say, They are among them, I'll
forgive them all. Ta'hadam minwasayimafiratillah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala When Nabi salaam Ya'quir
That if you fast on the day of
Arafah
Which is gonna be Sunday, 11th,
of September
The Prophet says fasting on this day will
make up for all the small sins committed
in the past year and the next year.
So now you observe one day of Rebada
24 hours, and you would give 24 months
forgiven. You can't get any beef, better deal
than that. Right? From Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
So this is a very very special day
to get your sins forgiven. I remember one
time I mentioned the hadith,
in Edmonton many years back,
and a brother came to me.
He was like 65 70 years old, and
he said, I never heard about this hadith
regarding the day of Arafah in my life.
Maybe he was not practicing when he was
younger, and he never heard the hadith.
And he said that was the 1st year
of his life 65
70 years old to fast on the day
of Arafah because he never he said I
never heard of the reward
2 years for fasting for 12 13 hours
Alhamdulillah
You can't get any better than deal than
that. So we ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
to give us the reward for our Ibadah
in these 10 days, and we ask Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to accept our good deeds
and forgive our sins.
So, inshaAllah, in the next few minutes we'll
talk about Uthayah Korbani.
It's aibara in this month. And SubhanAllah, the
Ibadat in Islam
are all about other people.
Because sometimes,
especially in the Western culture, if there's an
occasion, it's about you.
If it's for example, you're if someone is
doing their birthday, okay, where is my cake
and my, you know, my gifts?
If it's Halloween, where are my, you know,
sweets? If it's Valentine's, where's my teddy bear
and the red roses? It's always about me.
Anniversary, where's my ring? It's always about me.
But in Islam,
the Abadad are also about sharing with other
people.
Eid al Fit What do we do right
before Eid al Fit? You give Zakat al
Fit. You give to those who are less
fortunate, so they don't beg people for food
on the day of Eid. Eid al Athha,
you give them meat.
You share with other people.
Say for example, you make a mistake in
fasting,
or you break an oath.
What do you do? Ya'taamu Masakin You feed
the poor.
It's always about other people. You know, your
means of getting closer to Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala is serving other people.
Which teaches us that you cannot be a
good Muslim
unless you become a good human being first.
You share with other people, and take good
care of your brothers and sisters, and help
others. So this is what Ibadad is all
about in this month. So one of them
is helping others and sharing with them.
So Korbani dawukhaya,
we offer this goat or sheep. Of course,
it's a sunnah from Ibrahim alaihis salaam according
to the hadith of the Prophet SAW.
So you buy the goat or the sheep
for 1 family.
If they have one source of income through
1 of them, he will do it on
behalf of everyone.
Same families can share a cow, and so
on and so forth.
The time is to do it right after
salatul Eid. If we pray Eid, InshaAllah, it's
gonna be on Monday
12th
September.
Then after Eid, you go and offer your
RuTayah, your Qurban.
And you have, it's gonna be Monday, then
you have Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. You have 4
days to offer you a Qurban. It's not
only in the first day, you have 4
days to do it. The 10th Dhul Hijjah,
11th, 12th and 13th.
So you have plenty of time inshallah to
offer the, Torbani
and share with other people.
You can do it here in Canada, Alhamdulillah.
If you think there are some people out
there in other countries, in Palestine, in Pakistan,
in Egypt, in Syria, in Yemen, who are
more in need than us,
then send it to them. You can do
it through the Masjid.
A $150
you can give to a brother, Abdul Salam,
after salah, insha'Allah. And Allah will give you
the reward. Well, I have been to places,
and I know I know some families personally,
who only eat meat in the Eid ul
Adhasta.
Yeah. Here in Canada, you go to in
a store, there are many zabiha halal everywhere.
It's available, affordable. Alhamdulillah. We have no problem
with food.
We have no problem with water. Allah
has blessed
us. Meat everywhere.
Zabiha.
You have water everywhere. We have no problem.
People in Kenya and other places in Africa,
they walk for miles
to get some dirty water to drink. Allah
has blessed us. So part of you are
saying thank you to Allah, Alhamdulillah, is to
help those who are in need. Send some
to your brothers and sisters.
So inshallah,
it's recommended that you divide the animal in
3 equal parts.
1 share for you, 1 third for you
and the family,
one for neighbors and friends, and the last
third is for the poor.
And the 3,
shares have to be equal, because some people
think, Oh, I'm gonna take the best part
for myself,
the shank,
which is probably the best part,
and you keep that for your family. The
animal have 3 legs, you take the 4
actually 4. Four legs.
Biology was my my weakness.
So, it has 4 legs. You keep the
4 legs for yourself,
and you take the
intestines and the insides and the legs, and
you throw them to the pool.
Oh, if I give them anything they will
be dancing in the street, Khalas. No, no,
no, no. You are not doing them a
favor,
You are doing yourself a favor by giving
them the best part.
Like when the Prophet
offered a goat, and he told his wife,
okay, what is left? She said, we send
everything to the poor except for, you know,
one leg, or one shoulder. But the rest
is gone! And the Prophet said,
No!
The rest, the, the shoulder is left, or
actually the shoulder is gone, but the rest
is with Allah. So we'll get reward for
the rest. It is not gone, it is
not lost. Right? You'll get the reward from
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And the Al Abbas
say,
You share with the poor and your neighbors,
Muslims and non Muslims.
Because when you do sadaqah, or you give,
something like this, there is nothing wrong. And
there are so many hadith from the Prophet
where he used to send to non Muslims.
And he received
from them, and he used to say, Bismillah
and eat. There is nothing wrong.
The best form of dawah
is kindness to the people. You show them
that we care. LaanhaqumullahuAAamilaveenaalagqa.
The ayah, in Surah Mumtahala,
Surah 60a number 8, Allah does not stop
you or prevent you from dealing kindly and
graciously to the non Muslims who have not
fought you or driven you or abused you
because of your faith. Nothing is wrong.
So I'm gonna conclude with this story,
from Edmonton. I'm not sure if I shared
the story with you, but it's always good
to start with a story and conclude with
a story.
This is the only thing you're gonna remember
from the Khuppa anyway.
So the story was, it's a true story,
back in 2011, I was in Edmonton,
and those of you who have been there,
they know how horrible it is in the
month of Ramadan. It's very hot, humid,
the days are very long.
Right?
In the winter time, it's very extreme, like
30, 40 minuteus. I don't know why people
live there anyway they should all move here
but anyway
so I remember it was 1, Ramadan
and, I was busy giving a talk and
there was a counseling, a lot of counseling
there
So my phone was off for like 4
or 5 hours.
Then when I opened my phone,
I saw like 15 missed call from from
this brother. Right?
I'm not gonna mention the country, they make
very good, chicken sukar, beef sukar. And they
eat their food with, most banana all the
time. Alhamdulillah.
So what happens, he called me like 15
times and I called him back. So he
started calling like 11 in the morning and
the last call was like 4:5
pm. I called him, Mustafa, what happened?
He said, we have, you know, this guy,
non Muslim. He's fixing our basement.
Then we're doing some renovations, or there was
a leak or something, and he's fixing it.
And, yeah, I've been asking for water, but
my mother thinks that he should fast too.
But, he's not Muslim, but he should fast.
And, I was asking to see, what is
the Islamic rule, and should we give him
water or no?
And I said, Yeah, I've been calling for
6, 7 hours to ask if you, Well,
if he's still alive, you can give him
some. It's very hard to lie, it's very,
it's unbelievable
there. Especially in the basement, the heat, and
whatever.
No, it's okay, you can give them, no
problem.
And SubhanAllah,
the first lesson I got in interfaith from
my dad when I was young, I was
very young.
My father was a farmer, Rahimahullah, and, people
used to come and buy stuff from him.
We had buffalos, we had cows, sheep and
horses in our,
in our farm.
So, some non Muslims would come from outside,
Musafir.
They would come to buy something from Meyda,
sometimes it was Ramadan time,
and he would ask my mother to give
them something to eat. No problem. Shai tea.
They would sit in the room, in the
reception, eat, and after we finished, Allah subhanAllah
everyone else is passing. And SubhanAllah, what was
interesting,
when they made the deal to buy the
horse, or the buffalo, or the cow from
my dad, Wallahi, both my dad and the
Christian businessman who was buying the stuff from
him, both read the Fatiha. So the Fatiha
was saying, Alhamdulillah
The whole thing! I saw this with my
own eyes. So again, the best form of
Dawah is to be kind and good to
the people. Yes, we believe in Allah
then we do Dawah, but at the end
of the day, Allah
is the judge, not us. So we ask
Allah
to give us a blessed 10 days of
the month of Al hija, and we ask
Allah
to accept our Ibadah in this time, our
Qurbani, and our fast on the day of
Arafa.
And Hajj for those who have been there
and those who have not been yet. May
Allah
bless them with Hajj, and ask Allah
to give us sincerity in everything we say
and do.
2 things I'm gonna emphasize before we start
this salah.
Number 1, I cannot emphasize,
the need to sign this petition.
If you go to petition 411.ca,
it's,
the Canada here is asking for this petition,
so those who, insult Islam or say something
about Allah or Prophet Muhammad, they'll be, will
be accountable by law.
So, they cannot run away with it just
like every time they do. If they write
something, or they say something, or to be
attacking Islam, or the Prophet
they will be in big trouble. But they
need your signature
to make it a law.
So, we need to do this before the
end of October.
Petition
411.ca.
I want everyone in this masjid, all the
brothers, all the sisters,
the youth who play in their cell phones
in the back, to always go to this
website. InshaAllah, sign the petition. I did it
a few months ago, sorry, 2, 3 weeks
ago. It takes less than 1 minute.
But this will take us to the next
level. It will give us Izzah and dignity
in this country. Not anyone can come and
insult you, and go out, you know, run
away with
it. So we need to stand together,
just like other groups: the Chinese, the Italians,
the Jews, and so on and so forth,
they work together, there are laws.
So, if you say, if someone says something
about the Holocaust, if someone says something about
the Jews, if someone says something about other
groups, they will be in big trouble.
But us, we are a fair game. Everyone
can say whatever they want, everyone can do
whatever they want, but if we sign the
petition, if we give 100,000
signatures,
now we have about 30,000,
and we have about 2, about 3 weeks
to go, or 4 weeks to go. So
this needs to be signed.
If someone says something against Islam, or insults
Islam, or Prophet Muhammad or the Quran, it
would be a hate crime. They will suffer
the consequences
by law. So we need to lose this,
inshaAllah.
Petition, 4 11.
Ca. And the last thing, inshaAllah, make sure
inshaAllah you contribute to your Korbani sponsor Korbani
through a masjid. It's
$150. You can talk to brother Abdullah Abdullah
salamatul salam.
