Today, inshallah, we'll talk about the generosity of
the Sahaba and the difference between generosity and
stinginess.
So there are 3 different levels of generosity.
The first one, if you give some of
what you have. So if you have a
$100,000
and you give a $100 in charity, this
is not a huge
act of generosity. Right?
The higher level is to give all you
have,
come on. So if you have a 100
bucks in your pocket and you give them
all to salatah, this is a higher form
of salat
or generosity.
The highest form
is to give something you don't have, Like
in the sunan, that the prophet, salam, sometimes
someone will come and ask for a salakat
or,
he's asking for some for food or some
money, and the prophet, salam, searches in his
pockets and he doesn't have anything. So So
the prophet, salallahu alaihi wa sallam, will tell
him go to so and so
and buy fluids from him and tell him
that the prophet, salallahu alaihi wa sallam, will
pay you when he gets some money.
So the prophet, salallahu alaihi wa sallam, will
borrow money to give someone salam. He doesn't
have it in his pocket.
So and as I said, these three examples
exist in the sunnah of the prophet SAWSAL.
When he tried
when he, made the visit of the prophet
when he was about to leave his family
behind, he took all the money and gave
it to the prophet
When
his dad and his dad, Abu Bakr, was
a blind man, he told him, what have
you left for us? So Abu
Bakr filled a bag with, pieces of stone.
So he put his dad's hand on the
on the piece of that, bag, and he
filled the pieces inside. He said, okay. All
this is gold. It's stokes.
So he gave everything to Rasulullah SAWSALAW.
Also,
So
the second type is that you give everything
you have. You can see this in the
story of Ali ibn Abdul Talib and his
wife Fatima. They were fasting in Ramadan.
They have one loaf of, bread,
and they were about to eat to eat
it. Then someone knocked on the door. What
do you want? I'm hungry. I need food.
So they gave
him all the food they have, and that
person was a poor person.
The second night,
same thing. An orphan came. The 3rd night,
Yani, a captive,
a a war, Yani, a captive
or prisoner of war, and someone was free.
He doesn't have anything. He was asking for
food, so they gave him everything, and for
for 3 nights, they didn't eat anything except
water.
And therefore, this Ayat in Surat Al Insano,
Surat Al Dhan was revealed. They give the
food, although they love it and they are
in need of it, to the poor and
the orphan and the prisoner of war. So
this Ayat is talking about Alim
So the opposite is stinginess,
we you wanna keep everything for yourself. You
have a lot,
but you don't want to share. You don't
want to give anything to anyone,
although you have a lot. So if you
have
$10,000 and there's a poor guy asking for
money,
oh, there's a good cause. They are building
a masjid or they need to send, you
know, any,
humanitarian
assistance to our brothers in Gaza or Syria,
and I don't want to give them. $10
or a $100 is not gonna make you
a poor person, but still,
you don't want to share.
So in this story,
one person was a poor person, so one
of his friends said, why don't you go
to your neighbor so and so? He's a
rich guy. Ask him to give you nice
clothes.
He has a lot of hamdulillah. He said,
what are you talking about? He's not gonna
give me a quote. Wallahi if yahoo balayhi
salam
visited
him, and he sent all the angels and
all the prophets to make shafa'ah,
and his house is full of needles.
So he can, yahuubaalaihi sallam, can borrow a
needle
to sue the,
shirt of Yusuf, alayhi salaam, who was ripped
from the back. He would never give it
to him.
What are you talking about? You're not gonna
give me a coat? No. We'll never do
it.
So this guy, Abu Aswad Idu'ali, who was
a scholar of the Arabic language, and he
was very famous, for,
stinginess,
you know.
So one story today that will continue next
time,
he left his town, and he traveled to
another town for work,
then a person from his original village came
to visit him,
and he came, and Abu Asadu, as what
he do, and he was eating lunch.
So this guest was hoping that he would
invite him for lunch, but
he was not lucky enough.
So he said, I'm gonna tell him something
nice about his family so he will invite
me to food because I'm hungry.
So he told him, Alhamdulillah,
on my way to visit you, I passed
by your village or your town and your
house, and your wife were in an excellent
condition.
So but as far as I knew what
he wanted to do, so he said, this
is how I left them. This is how
I left my wife and my house, so
there's nothing new for me in what he
said. So he said, but your wife was
pregnant.
So he said, she's always pregnant. Every year,
she's pregnant. What is the big deal?
So he said, she gave birth to twins.
So he said, this is what her mother
always did, twins all the time. So there's
nothing new.
So he said, I gotta change the topic
and give him bad stories. Maybe this will,
soften his heart.
So he said, one of the twins died.
So but that's what Duvalier said, I know
because the mother couldn't breastfeed 2 at the
same time, so one of them has to
die.
So he said, but the other one died
too.
He said, because he was his heart was
broken because of his brother, so so he
had to die too.
So he said, then your wife died. He
said, bye Allah. If you kill all the
people in the town, I'm not going to
feed you anything. Okay?
Put your your heart at ease. Stop telling
me story. So inshallah, I'll continue next week.
Tonight is a test of your generosity. Today,
we have a fundraiser at the Islamic Academy
at 6 o'clock for the people of Gaza
to send them humanitarian and, medical,
material. So inshallah go and support them. And
think about all the stories I mentioned. That's
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
