Okay. So,
today we have a very special guest speaker,
brother Ibni Stanley,
aka
Abu Shahada.
He doesn't need an introduction, but, basically, Mashallah
is one of the pioneers of Dawah,
in, Canada, in the GTA.
Okay. So I want everybody here to take
a quick look at my ribthobe.
So my thobe is ripped. This is my
work, though.
Okay? But forget the thobe. We'll just check
out the socks.
Say it, MayshaAllah.
Awesome, Sala.
Socks are on point, aren't they?
In the streets right now, and I'm going
to take my daughter somewhere.
But in life, sometimes you'll get certain opportunities
to do something,
and if you don't take that opportunity, it'll
pass.
Goodbye.
And that's it.
My god. So
with the few minutes that I have today
here,
I wanna ask a question.
Who here's parents or a Muslim? Put up
your hand.
Parents. Or everybody can take a look. Who
here's parents or Muslim? Put up your hand.
I ain't here.
Participating system.
Who here's parents or Muslim? Put up
your hand. Put up your hand. Put up
your hand. Put up your hand. Put up
your hand.
I'll throw my feet away.
Okay.
How many people's parents aren't Muslim? Put up
their hand.
If your parents aren't Muslim.
If your parents aren't Muslim, your dad's not
Muslim, your mom's not Muslim, put up your
hand.
Put down your hand. Put down your hand.
Put down your hand.
Put down your hand.
Put your parents aren't Muslim?
Not yet. How many people's parents in here
and their parents that aren't Muslim? Count them.
Your parents aren't Muslim?
Okay. So be and this sister.
Okay. So here's the thing. Masha'Allah, this sister,
she had the chance to go to madrasah,
but I never did.
Nobody ever paid for me to learn Islam.
Nobody ever cared for me to go to
school.
My parents didn't send me to go to
Islamic school and to benefit from the great
teachers here. See the great teachers that you
guys have here, and the great imam. I
never had that growing up. I never had
that opportunity to grow up.
So here's my question.
Here's my question.
Here's my question to you guys.
Yeah.
I just played Masjid.
You listening?
Yes.
Are you listening?
Yes.
Shame, are you listening? I'm not listening. I
don't think they're listening.
Who was it that cared for me to
become a Muslim and help you learn Islam?
Oh, Allah. Allah.
Allah.
It's only Allah.
Truly, all the praise is due to Allah
who guided all
of us to this Islam.
If Allah didn't guide us to this Islam,
we would not be from amongst those that
were guided.
How many people here chose Islam? Put up
your hand.
I would choose. Put down your hand. You
guys didn't choose Islam. You were born in
Muslim families. I did. You didn't choose Islam.
Islam chose you.
Islam chose look look look look guys. When
I went to the store when I went
to the store last week, you brother, you
know,
and I seen these socks here. Sisters, check
out my socks. Brothers, check out my socks.
Take them out. Pretty rude. Yeah? Yeah. Lozenges.
See that? See those socks? My socks.
I chose these socks. These socks didn't choose
me.
Do you understand?
Yeah. So you guys have a great opportunity
and a great chance
to learn
I'm almost done, guys.
Listen. From See all these great teachers that
are here?
They all have knowledge that you guys don't
have.
Bossy.
And here's the point.
Here's the point. Here's the point I want
you guys to understand.
This point here
this point here will save your life.
Oh. Okay? Alright. You guys gonna listen? Yes.
Out of all the things that I said
today and teachers, I want you to write
this down. I want you to regurgitate this
to them all throughout the year.
Okay. Just one of my brothers there. Okay.
I love that brother very, very, very much.
You know you love it. I know him.
You know your brother. I know him longer
than you guys are born. That's what I
wanna know. Know. I know. And I know
the imam longer than probably most of the
you guys over here. I know. I know.
That's great.
I know. What's happening? So here's the point,
guys. You wanna hear the point or not?
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Jerry.
Here's the point. Teachers, I really want you
guys to pay attention to this. This struck
a chord in me some years ago. I
read in a book
and it's a fact.
Okay? Say these words with me, guys.
Yes, sir. No one cares Until they how
much you know How much you know. Until
they know Until they know. How much you
care. How much you care. No one cares
how much you know. For me, will lie
I so much you know. Listen.
Here's the point, guys. Here's the point.
Some years ago,
one of my favorite writers came to the
city. He wrote lots of books Sheikh. If
I mention his name, Sheikh, you're going to
say, yes. I've heard of the Sheikh before.
Very, very great scholar in Islam and he
wrote The way he writes the books, teachers,
is that when he writes, it hits your
heart and it makes you feel like you're
not a good Muslim.
And you need to try to become a
better Muslim. That's how good the Sheikh, his
books are.
So for many, many years they invited the
Sheikh to many conferences in the States. And
me and a lot of new convert brothers,
we used to travel to the States by
car,
thousands of miles to go and hope to
see that we see the sheikh because his
books are so good.
So all those times that we went on
those trips to sheikh, he couldn't get the
visa, or he didn't show up.
Years later, one particular organization, they finally brought
the sheikh to the
city. And we were so happy. We actually
called our brother and the Sheikh said, the
brother said, yes, the Sheikh is here. I
picked him up personally. You can imagine how
much we were hoping to sit and meet
the Sheikh because he wrote books that really
changed our life as new Muslims.
That's the good part. Tells me. Shh. I
can't say it. No. Because it's not nice.
You don't you don't make your teachers look
bad.
Oh.
Oh. Oh. Oh. No. You don't make your
teachers look bad.
And your teachers shouldn't make you look bad.
Okay?
I
got
you. I got you. Okay. Well, that's okay.
Let me finish my point, guys. Let me
finish my point.
Let me finish my point.
But you have to respect your teacher, and
if you show respect to your teacher, then
you'll be good. And the prophet said,
He does not thank the people, does not
thank Allah.
The prophet said,
said,
that he is not from us who does
not show respect to the elders
So let me make the point. Then I
gotta go. I have I have an appointment,
guys. Here's the point. Here's the point. We
went for 3 days
to go and see the Sheikh at this
particular question. Okay? We went to go see
me and a group of brothers that are
just like me. We went to go see
the Sheikh.
And the Sheikh gave beautiful ashes.
It touched our heart. But when the Sheikh
went down to go make wudu for different
salats, we kept trying to go up to
the Sheikh.
We're sitting with the Sheikh. We're in his
classes taking notes. We have a question to
the side,
and we wanted we really came here to
try to learn from the Sheikh. And the
Sheikh said, my Indi walked. I don't have
any time.
The next day we came, same scenario.
Sheikh, Sheikh, Sheikh. Don't ask. We have a
question. We have a question.
90 what?
The 3rd day we went.
Same thing. Sheikh,
let him know Mujood. We're here, Sheikh. We
have a question.
It's about his book.
Sheikh said,
90 what?
90, 90. I have no time. No.
It hurt our heart so much
that when the non Muslim said,
no one cares how much you know until
they know how much you care. I didn't
understand that phrase, that slogan,
until I actually seen it practiced amongst our
leading scholars.
Yes, I mentioned his name, you're gonna go.
You're gonna be surprised.
You're gonna be surprised.
One of the leading scholars. So the question
is, brothers,
can we learn from the non Muslims? Yes,
we can. Can we learn from our teachers?
Yes, we can. Not only do we learn
the right things from our teachers, but we
learn sometimes the wrong things on what we
shouldn't do. It's a time of study. Now,
I don't have I'll tell you guys this.
I have
What time do we have, Shiv? What time
is left? It's hours. It's What time is
it? What time? I mean, 1:50 or something.
Okay. We have 2 more hours. I don't
have
You know the knowledge that I have, guys?
No one in this room has this knowledge
but me.
Okay. Listen. Maybe one day you'll get enough
knowledge and respect that people will let you
come and give the lecture. But until then,
the chef, he's given me permission and all
the teachers here, they gave me permission to
come. And I like to come because I
care.
Nobody's bringing me any bechamel or any fancy
samosa or anything. I didn't get nothing.
I came here because I love you guys.
Okay?
Who knows?
I know you. Are you a Muslim?
Yes. Do you mind from you're from my
family?
Okay, guys. You guys made me you guys
are making me forget my point now because
I have to come home. Yeah. You said
you have some knowledge that no one has.
Okay. So here we go.
The prophet said
Islam in a faqihum.
He said the best of you in the
days of ignorance
will be will come the best of you
in Islam if Allah gives you knowledge of
the religion, religion. Also, Al Khattabi said,
He who doesn't know jahaliyah, meaning the days
of ignorance,
they won't know Islam
I got it. Too slow.
I got to go. Too slow. I got
to go. So here's the thing, guys. I
want you guys listen to me. Listen to
me. I'm gonna leave right now. I want
you guys when you come to this school
when you guys come to this school,
I want you guys to try your best
to pay attention for as long as you
can because there may be a life lesson
there that if you learn it the first
time, it may save you down the road.
I made lots of mistakes and when I
was in when I was your age, I
didn't pay attention to school.
I in high school, when I was in
grade 11,
Sister,
I would fall asleep in the science class.
Okay?
And when it came time to write the
exam, I would still get 75%
in the science.
So imagine, Shay, if I actually would have
studied science, I might have been one of
the leading scientists in the world
because I got the groovy socks and I
got the cool hairstyle. Awesome. And I'm just
cool that I'm smart like that. Yeah. Is
that right? Yeah. Alright. You can be smart
too, but you gotta do the right thing.
You gotta be here as well. Yes. Okay.
Yes. Okay. Yes. That's alright.
