AI: Summary ©
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Allahumma salli wa sallim ala Sayyidina wa Habibina
Muhammadin wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma'in.
My beloved brothers and sisters, I start by
praising Allah Almighty and thanking Him for this
wonderful opportunity.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allowing us to
continue these sessions, guiding us to coming to
the masajid and benefiting and learning.
And I want to encourage everyone here, please,
not only do I advise you to continue
coming to benefit from this program and the
other durs as well, I also encourage you
to continue spreading the word, to try and
get other people that you know that would
benefit from these classes to come as well.
And each one of you here, my sisters
and my brothers, each one of you here,
if you know someone that can benefit from
fiqh or aqeedah or even this seerah class,
invite them, encourage them, and remember the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam's statement, The one who
shows someone a path towards goodness is like
the one who is doing it.
So please keep that in mind inshallah wa
ta'ala, we want this program to grow,
we want more people to benefit inshallah wa
ta'ala.
May Allah accept it from all of us,
ameen.
The other reminder I want to give is
as it relates to knowledge itself.
And it's important that we always remind ourselves
of the benefit, the value, the virtue of
learning your religion.
Learning the seerah, learning the tafsir, learning the
Quran.
And one ayah is enough for us to
reflect over, which is Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala's statement, Allah instructed our Prophet, the same
Prophet whose life we're learning about, Allah instructed
him, Oh Muhammad say, Oh my Lord increase
my knowledge.
Oh my Lord increase my knowledge.
This is who's being told to say this?
The Prophet.
Now if the Prophet is being told to
say this, where are we?
So often say, Oh Allah increase my knowledge.
Oh Allah increase my knowledge.
Because the more you learn, the better believer
you become.
And this is fact.
So may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make
us among those who are continuously learning their
religion, learning halal from haram, learning their history,
learning the seerah of the Prophet salallahu alayhi
wa sallam, and the meaning of the Quran.
Say ameen.
The second point that I want to reflect
over is again, why seerah?
What is the importance of seerah?
What is the benefit of seerah?
We've been coming to these classes, nice stories,
learning about our Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam,
but there is more to it than that.
And if there's one benefit that we gain
from it, that we should hold on to,
that we should live by, that we should,
that is enough of a reason for us
to come to these classes, is that studying
the life of the Prophet increases your love
of the Prophet.
Studying the life of the Prophet increases the
love you have for the Prophet.
And when the love you have for the
Prophet increases, your iman increases and will have
the potential to go to its highest place.
Because no one's iman is complete until you
love Muhammad ibn Abdillah ibn Abd al-Mutalib,
Habibuna wa Nabiyuna wa Qudwatuna, until you love
him more than anybody else on this earth.
No family, no children, no wife, nobody.
The Prophet comes first.
How do we get there?
Because it's easy to say in theory, learn
about him.
Learn about his struggles, learn about his actions,
his statements, and you'll get there inshallah wa
ta'ala.
May Allah increase the love that we have
for the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Say ameen.
Now, let's see if we can recap so
far what we have covered about his beautiful
life.
We learned about his lineage.
We learned about his ancestors.
We learned about the history of Mecca and
how it was formed.
The Kaaba and its significance.
We learned about the day the Prophet salallahu
alayhi wa sallam was born.
And the major event that happened in the
year that he was born, the year of
the elephants and Abraha's attack.
And how Allah preserved and protected the Kaaba
in the year his beloved Prophet salallahu alayhi
wa sallam was born.
We learned that the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa
sallam never saw his father because Abdullah died
before he saw his son.
We learned about his mother whose name was
Amirah bint Wahb, who only was with him
for six years and after that she also
passed away.
We learned about the family that raised him
for a number of years and fostered him,
the Sa'di clan, Halima Sa'diya.
And we learned about the Prophet salallahu alayhi
wa sallam's siblings as relates to those that
drank from the same milk as him salallahu
alayhi wa sallam We learned about his upbringing
in Mecca and how dear he was to
his grandfather Abdul Mutalib.
And how as the Prophet was growing up
in Mecca, everybody loved him as a young
boy.
And when his grandfather Abdul Mutalib passed away,
he went into the care of who?
Yes, Abu Talib.
May Allah bless you.
Abu Talib raised him and Abu Talib saw
him as one of his own and loved
him.
And this was from Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
And then we mentioned how he took him
on several trips to the caravan to Syria.
How the signs of prophethood were slowly being
seen by certain people.
How there was something different about a young
Muhammad.
How he never liked the idols.
How he was never someone that lied.
How Allah protected him from sin.
How Allah protected him from idolatry.
How he adopted Hanifiyah the way of Prophet
Ibrahim alayhi salam.
And as he grew up, we covered his
marriage to Khadija bint Khuwaylid.
And what a great woman she ended up
being.
We covered his business adventures.
We covered how he was a shepherd at
some point when he was younger.
We covered the incident of Fudul where he
was involved in a great pact of justice
and fighting against oppression.
We talked about his involvement in the war
of Fijar.
The Fijar wars and what they were about.
And then the major incident of the rebuilding
of the Kaaba.
And how he managed to stop a big
war from happening all the way up to
when the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam became
much older.
When he was nearing 40.
And he started to love solitude.
And the way he viewed the Meccans and
the idol worship, it was becoming more distasteful
to him.
And he would abandon Mecca and he would
take some food and he would go away
from them to Mount Noor in the cave
of Hira.
And he would be there doing tahannuf, pondering,
worshipping, contemplating, thinking.
And as he was doing that, the night
that we covered the last lesson, the greatest
night, the night where Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala showered mercy upon our Prophet salallahu alayhi
wa sallam, sent him Angel Gabriel and the
first ayats came down.
And then the Prophet's reaction after that, he
comes home, he doesn't know exactly what happened.
And the first five verses or ayat of
Surah Al-Alaq come down.
And then you had those amazing words that
Khadija said to him when she said to
him, Allah will never humiliate you, Muhammad don't
you worry, nothing bad will happen to you.
And then she started listing how righteous, how
kind, how helpful he was.
And saying to him, anyone that is as
helpful as you, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
will never cause you harm, so don't you
worry.
And she calmed him down and then she
took him to her cousin, Waraka ibn Nawfal,
who was a learned man.
And among the few that were knowledgeable and
aware of a coming Prophet, waiting for that
final Prophet.
And then when he sees Prophet Muhammad and
he tells him the story about what happened
to him, and what he experienced in the
cave, Waraka immediately without hesitation tells him, yes
you are him.
You are him, you are the awaited messenger
and Prophet.
And he tells him, the one that came
to you is the Archangel Jibreel, the great
angel that came to Musa, and you are
the final messenger.
And then he tells him, no one has
ever come with that which you will come
with.
No one was ever sent with that which
you will be sent with, oh Muhammad.
Except his people rejected him and ostracized him
and ended up banishing them from their city,
something the Prophet could not believe.
Me, when the Meccans loved him, and the
Meccans cared for him, and they called him
the truthful and the honest and the trustworthy.
He said, will they banish me?
And Waraka said to him, yes, yes they
will.
Now, here it's important to establish one point.
Was Waraka's testimony and statement that Prophet Muhammad
is a Prophet enough for the Prophet to
be convinced, yes, I am the final Prophet,
or was there more to it?
In other words, what do we have so
far?
Let's put everything on the table.
We have the Prophet ﷺ, even if you
want to think all the way back to
when he was younger.
Some people are saying to him, like Bahira
the monk, you will be the final Prophet.
Maybe we can have that as evidence.
Then we have the Prophet ﷺ for a
period of six months.
He would dream, and everything he would dream
would what?
Would come true.
So you have that.
Then you have the Prophet ﷺ telling us
that sometimes inanimate objects like stones or rocks
would say to him, As-salamu alaykum ya
Rasulullah, so he would hear that.
And then you had the Prophet ﷺ preferring
solitude and time to ponder.
And then you have that incident, Angel Gabriel.
But when Angel Gabriel came down to him,
or came to him, did not say, oh
Muhammad you are a messenger.
He just read, That's
all the Prophet ﷺ has.
He doesn't know exactly what's going on.
He's very concerned.
He's very worried.
He rushes home to his wife, cover me,
cover me.
And then everything that I told you happened.
Waraqah tells him, you are the final Prophet.
Is the Prophet ﷺ now convinced and that
was it?
Actually that's not what happened.
After all of that, everything went back to
normal.
Quiet.
Prophet ﷺ goes back home.
Angel Gabriel does not come back.
Nothing.
One day.
Second day.
Third day.
Fourth day.
What's going on?
Here, the ulama of Sirah differ over how
long was there between the first revelation and
the second revelation.
And you have opinions varying from 40 days
to 30 days to some ulama, and this
is mentioned by Ibn Ishaq, that say it
lasted for two and a half years.
Two and a half years.
But the strongest view that Ibn Hajar al
-Asqalani mentions and also Sahib al-Raheq, is
that it was actually about ten days.
Right?
Ten days.
And what makes that view the strongest, we
need to go back to when the first
revelation happened.
The first revelation, that beautiful night, that important
night, where Angel Gabriel comes to the Prophet
ﷺ in the cave of Hira.
First, it was in Ramadan.
How do we know it's in Ramadan?
Well, Allah says in the Qur'an, The
month of Ramadan, in which the Qur'an
was revealed.
So we know the Qur'an was revealed
in the month of Ramadan.
So Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, in the cave that
night, we know what month it was.
What month was it?
Ramadan.
Do we know what day from Ramadan?
Yes, we know that.
And we have sent down to the Qur
'an, And we have sent down to the
Qur'an on the night of Qadr.
Which puts it what?
In the beginning days of Ramadan or the
end days?
The end days, right?
Now specifically, what day of Laylatul Qadr?
Because Laylatul Qadr can be the 27th, can
be the 21st, as you all know.
It can be the 23rd, right?
It's on the odd nights.
The Prophet ﷺ told in a hadith, I
was sent, in other words, made a prophet
on a Monday.
So what do we have so far?
The month of Ramadan, Laylatul Qadr, Monday.
When the ulema looked at this, And they
looked historically, when it was, and we know
what year it was as well, They said,
that Laylatul Qadr, for it to be Laylatul
Qadr on a Monday, It had to have
been on the 21st.
It had to have been on the 21st
of Ramadan, the night of Laylatul Qadr, on
a Monday, Is when Allah revealed upon the
Prophet ﷺ, يقرأ باسم ربك الذي خلق Are
you all with me?
طيب Then there's another narration that mentions that
the Prophet ﷺ, After a while, a number
of days, he actually goes back to Ghar
al-Hira.
He goes back, and when he went back,
the Prophet ﷺ said, After spending a number
of days there, When Shawwal was born, when
the month of Shawwal was born, Which is
the month after Ramadan.
So from the 21st to the 1st of
Shawwal, how many days is that going to
be?
Roughly around 10 days.
That's why the strongest view is that the
period where the Prophet ﷺ did not receive
revelation was about 10 days, And Allah knows
best.
But there are other views as well that
some ulema have said, and they're all respectable.
طيب Then what happens?
The Prophet ﷺ first, the thing that we
have to highlight or talk about, Is how
did the Prophet feel at first?
The first time the Qur'an was revealed,
the first time Surah Al-Ahzab was revealed,
The Prophet ﷺ is concerned and confused.
Concerned and confused.
But as time goes on, he is yearning
for more.
He's yearning for more.
For more guidance.
He wants to hear from his Lord.
He wants to hear more Qur'an.
He wants Angel Gabriel to come back.
Hence why he goes back to where it
all started.
And while he was there, waiting, pondering, thinking,
hoping, What happened?
Some of the ulema, And here I have
to mention something that is quite important.
In Bukhari, As you're reading the hadith in
the chapter, which is the earliest chapter in
Bukhari, About كيف بدأ الوحي?
How did revelation start?
The hadith is narrated by Aisha.
She mentions everything we talked about, how revelation
started, And the first ayahs that came down,
Surah Al-Alaq, the night of Ghar Hira,
all of it.
At the end of the hadith, Imam Al
-Bukhari, He mentions, And it has been reported,
That Zuhri, Zuhri is a younger tabi'i,
That Zuhri said, That the Prophet felt so
much emotional pain, And toll on him, That
he went towards the mountains, And thought about
throwing himself off.
Right.
That is in Bukhari.
Now, let's pause here.
There's something really important we have to highlight
here.
When we say, The Sahih Al-Bukhari, Is
the most authentic book after the Qur'an,
This is a correct statement.
Let me say that again.
The Sahih Al-Bukhari, Is the most authentic
book after the Qur'an.
So the narration, the hadith are all what?
Authentic.
Now, Everything reported by Al-Bukhari, In his
Sahih book, Is authentic.
Everything reported.
Not everything mentioned.
Not everything reported, but not everything mentioned.
So, whenever Bukhari says, My sheikh said, that
his sheikh said, And he gives you a
chain of transmission, If Bukhari gives you a
chain of transmission, In his Sahih, That narration
is authentic.
If Bukhari said, It has been reported.
By who?
Or, it's also been said.
Or such and such said.
If he says that, The chain of narration,
Which he sometimes does, Is not considered, From
the authentic hadith.
Those narrations, And those reports are considered to
be, Like any other reports in other books,
Some will be Sahih, And others will not
be.
Does that make sense?
So, in the hadith, In the chapter related
to, How revelation started.
Bukhari narrates the hadith from Aisha.
And he gives you the full narration.
And then he tells you the full story,
That Aisha mentioned.
Then at the end of that he said,
It's also been reported by Zuhri.
This bit, It's also been reported by Zuhri.
That bit is not authentic.
And that's okay, by the way.
That's perfectly fine.
It's not authentic.
Why is it not authentic?
Because first of all, Bukhari does not give
us a chain of narration.
Which means, We don't know where that report
came from.
So why does Bukhari mention it?
Well, he mentioned it maybe as extra information.
And Bukhari was a human being that can
go wrong.
He wasn't a prophet.
So, you have two camps.
Guys, follow me.
Sisters and brothers, follow me.
This is really important information.
Every hadith that is in the Sahih al
-Bukhari, With its chain of transmission, Is considered
what?
Authentic and?
Accepted.
The most authentic part of the Quran.
But sometimes Imam al-Bukhari may mention something,
Without its chain, as extra information, That can
be scrutinized and disagreed with, Or it's sometimes
Sahih, sometimes daif.
Is that clear?
Why is that important?
That's important because someone may come to you,
And this statement that the Prophet was so
emotionally in pain, That he felt that he
wanted to throw himself off a mountain, And
then Ibn Jabril appeared to him, And said
to him, you're a messenger, That story did
not happen, and it's not authentic.
When you say that, what are you talking
about?
It's in Bukhari.
It's in what?
It's in Bukhari.
Are you going against Bukhari?
When someone says that to you, how do
you reply?
You say to him, yes, it is mentioned
by Bukhari, But it is not reported by
Bukhari, With a chain of transmission.
Is that too complicated to understand?
Or is that fine?
Are you guys with me?
Why am I mentioning this story?
Because it is during this period, Where the
revelation stopped, So the chain was revealed, Nothing
else has been revealed, The Prophet is still
trying to figure out what's going on, He
goes to the cave of Al-Hira, So
what actually happened?
While he was at the cave of Al
-Hira, One day, And the month of Ramadan
ended, And remember I told you guys, The
Prophet, the last few years, Every Ramadan he
would spend in the cave of Al-Hira,
And it was the last Ramadan, Until the
Quran was revealed upon him, And then he
goes back, finishes, And then he's walking back.
And the Prophet mentioned, As I was walking
back down the valley, On his way back
to Makkah, He hears his name called, Oh
Muhammad, Ya Muhammad, And he said, I looked
towards my right, And there's no one there,
And I looked towards my left, And there's
no one there, He looked everywhere, He hears
his name again, If there's no one there,
Where should you look up?
And he sees Angel Jibreel, He sees Angel
Jibreel, Sitting on a throne, Looking at him,
Saying, Ya Muhammad, I am Jibreel, And you
are the Messenger of Allah.
I am the Angel Jibreel, And you are
the Messenger of Allah.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, Said that
when he saw that sight, And he saw
the angel, It took him, It made him
so shocked, That he fell down, The Prophet,
peace be upon him, Fell on the ground,
shocked, And Angel Jibreel just repeated the same
thing, I am Jibreel, And you are the
Messenger of Allah.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, Went home,
And the Prophet, peace be upon him, Said
to his wife Khadija, Pour cold water over
me, And he lied down, And he covered
himself.
And then Allah, peace be upon him, Wake
up, and warn, And glorify your Lord, And
purify your clothes, And avoid evil, And do
not be greedy, And be patient with your
Lord.
This was the second revelation that came down.
Surah Al-Mudathir.
So now, you're learning, that the way we
learn the Qur'an, whether you learn it
from Surah An-Nas upwards or you learn
from Baqarah and you go down, that's not
how the Qur'an was revealed.
And in fact let me pause here and
explain something about the Qur'an itself.
Remember how earlier I said the Qur'an
was revealed in which month?
The month of Ramadan.
Now the Qur'an, which is the word
of Allah, which is the Qur'an that
we know, how many chapters?
140 chapters.
The Qur'an, the word of Allah, was
in the Lawhul Mahfuz and the Qur'an
was, the Qur'an descended from the preserved
tablets, from the Lawhul Mahfuz and was brought
down to the first heaven in a place
called Baytul Izzah.
The first heaven, Baytul Izzah.
And it was during this that also Allah
increased the gods, the angels in the skies
to protect it.
Hence why I mentioned last week that even
the devils and the jinn, they realized something
is off when they ascended to the skies
and they saw more angels and they weren't
sure what was happening.
Inshallah ta'ala in future lessons I will
tell you, the jinn will find out what
was happening and why the sudden change because
a new prophet has been sent and the
Qur'an is being revealed and when they
hear the Qur'an some of them will
actually accept Islam.
But we'll get to that story inshallah.
So when this, so the Qur'an was
brought down to a place called the Baytul
Izzah and from Baytul Izzah, Angel Gabriel would
bring down any Qur'an that is required
and bit by bit on over 23 years
until the Qur'an was completed.
Are you guys with me?
So a surah will come down, a chapter
will come down, a verse will come down
to address whatever is necessary and needed at
that time.
And then it was compiled and then we
had we have the 114 chapters that we
have today.
Is that clear?
So the Surah Al-Alaq, first few ayat
and now Surah Al-Mudathir.
So if someone asks you what is the
second revelation, what's your answer?
Which surah?
Surah Al-Mudathir, especially the first few Now
what did Allah say to the Prophet?
O you who is covering himself, O you
who is covering himself, Qum, stand up.
Faanzir, warn.
Stand up and warn.
Warn who?
Warn your family, warn the city of Mecca
and the people in it, warn mankind.
Warn them of what?
Warn them that if they continue upon their
way, away from the worship of Allah Almighty
and dedicate themselves to living lives where they
are worshiping either themselves or devils or people
or idols, warn them of a fire to
come.
Warn them of a horrible life that they
will live.
Warn them of the anger of Allah.
And what did the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam do?
And we will cover that inshallah I believe
next week or the week after, where the
first thing the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
does when he starts warning people publicly is
when he calls them to Islam, he tells
them, would you trust me if I told
you there is an army approaching?
They said, yes O Muhammad we will trust
you and we would gather our weapons.
He said, well I am warning you of
a fire that is approaching if we do
not change our ways.
So stand up and warn the people.
Qum, Faanzir.
Qum, Faanzir.
And he'd started inshallah with his family of
course.
Then Allah says, O Muhammad, وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ And
declare the greatness of your Lord.
Glorify your Lord.
Understand that none is greater than Allah.
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ means say Allahu Akbar and believe
Allahu Akbar.
What does Allahu Akbar mean?
That Allah is what?
Allah is the greatest.
There's nothing greater than Allah.
Why is that important for the Prophet right
now?
Because he's about to embark on a very
difficult mission.
He's about to embark on a mission that
will result in him, his family, his people,
his companions being punished and tortured.
So much difficulty is ahead of him which
we will cover in the few weeks to
come.
So much difficulties but Muhammad remember no matter
what they throw at you, there is nothing
greater than who?
Allah.
There is no problem too great for Allah.
There's no enemy too great for Allah.
Declare the greatness of your Lord.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar.
Allah is teaching a Prophet ﷺ and preparing
him to be in that mindset.
Once you realize that there's nothing greater than
Allah and you realize that there is every
single problem on earth will become insignificant for
you in comparison to the greatness of our
Creator Allah ﷻ.
Glorify your Lord and from that Takbir and
from saying Allahu Akbar and from believing Allahu
Akbar you will find strength, inner strength.
Then he is told وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
And purify your clothings.
Now this is very interesting.
The word ثيابك can have two meanings.
ثيابك can sometimes refer to the hot and
sometimes it can refer to the physical clothing
that you're wearing which is usually means.
ثياب means clothings.
So when Allah ﷻ send the Prophet, Oh
Muhammad purify your clothings.
Does it mean purify your heart?
What does it mean purify your clothings?
The علماء some say heart which is the
مجمهور and some say no it means the
Prophet ﷺ was being told to now cleanse
himself physically so that he can ready himself
for this mission that he's upon.
And the best answer is why can't it
be both?
Because when we want to present ourselves to
the people we wear our best clothes.
When you leave in the house you wear
clean clothes, you iron your clothes, you don't
want to look messy in front of the
people and hence why everyone in the world
when they're going out they are presentable.
And the more important the function you're going
to the more presentable you make yourself.
Have you noticed when you're traveling it's not
the same as when you're going to your
mate's house which is different from when you're
going to an interview which is different for
Jumu'ah.
Each time depending on the occasion we what?
We make sure that we purify ourselves and
we look the best we can be right?
But what about in here?
What about in our hearts?
I want you to imagine the Prophet ﷺ
told in a hadith that when we sin
a black a black dot appears in our
hearts.
When we sin a black dot appears.
This is not a physical black dot because
in surgery someone said I know I opened
up a scar they couldn't find it but
but a black dot appears in your heart.
And then your heart gets covered in darkness
the more you sin.
And what is the impact of that darkness?
The worship becomes difficult for you and sin
becomes easy for you.
I want you to imagine right now if
you could hold your heart in your hand
how clean or dirty would it be?
I want you to think about that for
a second.
If if our hearts were presented today how
many black dots will they have right now
if you're holding on your hand?
Would you feel ashamed?
Most of us would feel ashamed.
The amount of sin, errors, mistake, injustice, oppression,
insults, backbiting that we carry in our hearts.
Allah looks at our hearts all the time.
Prophet told us Allah looks at your hearts
and your actions.
And just as we present ourselves properly when
we leave our homes think about how you
present yourself to Allah.
And should you not clean your heart.
And that's why Allah has telling the Prophet
ﷺ and by extension all of us purify
your hearts.
Purify them from being devoted to anything other
than Allah.
Purify it from jealousy, hatred, anger, envy, oppression,
arrogance, ignorance.
Clean your heart and become what?
Humble.
Become someone that is fearful of Allah.
Someone that is kind, compassionate.
Clean your heart.
Scrub it clean.
Why is that important for the Prophet ﷺ
and by extension all of us?
Because if you're going to go out to
the people and if you want your message
to be heard and if you want people
to follow you then the best way for
you to do that is if you have
a clean heart.
And if you are presented well with clean
clothes that are also pure.
Then Allah says and shun and avoid and
abandon all impurities but more specifically idolatry.
Stay away from idolatry.
وَالرُّجْزَةَ فَهْجُرْ وَالرُّجْزَةَ فَهْجُرْ Shun the idols.
Allah is telling the Prophet ﷺ.
Now the message is becoming clearer for the
Prophet.
What is my mission?
Oh Allah, your mission is to warn.
Warn the people.
Oh Allah, how will I do that?
Well first understand there's nothing greater than Allah.
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ Then what?
Oh Allah, purify your heart because that will
aid you in your mission.
Present yourself properly.
Purify your clothings.
Then what?
Oh Allah, shun those idols.
Avoid them.
Save people from them.
Those idols have connected the people away, have
connected the people, the hearts to the idols
rather than Allah ﷻ.
وَالرُّجْزَةَ فَهْجُرْ The word فهجُرْ means to abandon,
to migrate away from.
That's what the word hijrah comes from.
وَالرُّجْزَةَ فَهْجُرْ وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرْ Then the Prophet
ﷺ is told, وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرْ Do not
do من.
Do not do من.
Meaning, do not do good for others.
Do not do good for others in the
hope they will do something for you.
Allah talks about this in the Qur'an,
this concept of من.
What does that mean?
It means that I do you a favor
and then I remind you of that favor.
Do you remember when I drove you to
London?
Do you remember when I gave you that
tenner?
Remember when I did this for you?
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرْ Hoping that you get more
out of it.
Meaning what, oh Muhammad?
Remember this da'wah that you're doing, this
guidance that you are going to be propagating.
Do not think that you're doing them a
favor, that then they should owe you something
in return.
Don't think that way.
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاسْبِرْ And finally Allah says to him,
have patience for your Lord.
فَاسْبِرْ Patience.
Why is Allah telling the Prophet patience?
Because the path he's about to walk on
is not going to be easy.
And Wallahi you will see it in the
seerah.
It will not be easy.
This was the message the Prophet ﷺ was
given.
To have patience.
And that was the second revelation that came
down that made him ﷺ a prophet and
a messenger.
So the Prophet ﷺ became a prophet and
he became a messenger.
And let's pause on that for a second.
What makes someone a messenger and what makes
someone a prophet?
And are all prophets messengers and vice versa
or is there a difference?
In fact let me ask the crowd and
the brothers who can tell me what is
the difference between a prophet and a messenger?
What's your name?
Fuad?
Fuad tell me what's the difference between a
prophet and a messenger?
So a messenger is someone that does what?
Spreads the word.
So was the Prophet Muhammad a messenger?
Was he spreading the Qur'an?
So does that make him a messenger?
He is a messenger, yes.
Can anyone tell me a difference?
Yes, go ahead.
So that's a common one.
That a messenger is given a book and
a prophet is not given a book but
they just propagate the message of the Prophet
that came before them.
Now the stronger view is that prophets
are sent to believers and messengers are sent
to non-believers.
So I'll give you guys an example.
So for example, Adam was not a messenger.
He was a prophet because when he was
on earth with his children and his family
they were all what?
Believers, so he was a prophet.
And a messenger is someone that is sent
to non-believers.
So the Prophet was a messenger and a
prophet.
He becomes a prophet when the first chapter
of Iqra' is revealed.
He becomes a messenger when Allah tells him
Go and warn the people.
The Prophet, after this the revelation started coming
one after the other.
The revelation started to come one after the
other.
And the first commandment he was given was
to warn the closest people to him.
And the following three years he was doing
it in secret.
So from this moment onwards the following three
years the Prophet was calling to Islam in
secret.
Another point that I should probably add and
this is really important that some of the
books of Sheerah mention is that the Prophet
is taught how to make wudu and how
to pray early on in the Sheerah.
In fact, remember when I told you the
Prophet saw Angel Jibreel in the sky?
Remember that?
Some scholars have narrated that it is during
this moment that Angel Jibreel came down to
the Prophet and then hit his wing on
the earth and water came out and then
Angel Jibreel made wudu and taught the Prophet
how to make wudu and then Angel Jibreel
prayed and taught the Prophet how to pray.
And after that the chapters came down.
Hence why the Prophet started to pray early
on in his message.
Now, how do you reconcile that with the
fact that the Salah was revealed in the
night journey about nine years from this point
that we are now.
So the actual five daily prayers will be
revealed from the point in the Sheerah nine
years from that.
So how is the Prophet already praying?
Because before the five daily prayers were revealed
there was another prayer the Prophet used to
pray which was he would pray in the
morning and he would pray in the night.
He would pray in the evening and he
would pray the night prayer.
Hence why among the earliest chapters that are
revealed after Surah Al-Mudathir is Surah Al
-Muzammil.
And what does Surah Al-Muzammil say?
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلِ O you who is covering
himself قُمْ stand What Surah does that sound
like?
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلِ قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ This one says
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلِ قُمْ قُمِ اللَّيْلِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
The first Surah in Al-Mudathir Allah says
O you who is hiding or covering himself
stand and what?
Warn the people.
In Al-Muzammil stand and pray at night.
قُمِ اللَّيْلِ Pray the whole night إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
Except for a little bit.
So the Prophet ﷺ was being told by
Allah that's why some of the Ulama say
that the night prayer for the Prophet was
obligatory.
Now here you have again think about this
barely anyone is Muslim yet the Prophet hasn't
started his mission yet he still needs to
speak to Abu Bakr and he needs to
speak to his family and they need to
accept Islam and they need to slowly start
spreading the word of لا إله إلا الله
to the people around him but before any
of that he's being taught his responsibilities and
there's two Qums in everyone's life Qum means
to stand so you stand for two things
قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ قُمِ اللَّيْلِ what does قُمِ اللَّيْلِ
mean?
stand in the night prayer meaning have personal
worship a time where you personally worship Allah
dedicate worship to Allah if you want your
mission to succeed out there if you want
to have the inner strength and the ability
to go and handle Abu Lahab and Abu
Jahl and Quraysh and go against them then
what you first need is to pray at
night and build your Iman and the reason
why often the Dawah fails and the reason
why sometimes our message is not being heard
is because we're not doing enough personal worship
right?
because the more greater your Iman is the
more Barakah in your actions قُمْ اللَّيْلَ قَلِيلًا
اَوْزِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلْ قُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا Allah says to
him اِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا O Muhammad,
we will throw on you a heavy burden
a heavy burden, this is the Qur'an
the Qur'an isn't easy, it's heavy so
anyway Surat Al-Muzammil was among the earlier
Surahs that were revealed as well so the
Prophet ﷺ was taught how to pray and
he would pray at night and he taught
Khadijah how to pray and she was one
of the first people to pray with him
and after that you had Ali and Zayd
ibn Haritha who I spoke to you about
before actually I didn't speak to you guys
about Ali if I were to ask you
guys tell me about the Prophet's household if
I were to ask you guys tell me
about the Prophet's household who lives with him
who is his wife at this point Khadijah
and he has some of his children his
children were grown and some of them were
married right we have Khadijah but do you
know who else is with him that is
young Fatima who else someone said Zayd who
said Zayd Zayd ibn Haritha we discovered him
right who was Zayd ibn Haritha to the
Prophet ﷺ what was he to him yes
who is Zayd his cousin that's incorrect that's
incorrect you seem very confident what's your name
Ayman you look very confident now that I
said that you can't get the answer wrong
no pressure who is Zayd yes
so he was like an adopted or someone
that was fostered by the Prophet ﷺ very
good Ayman he didn't disappoint so you have
Zayd but also Ali ibn Abi Talib the
cousin of the Prophet the second Khalifa this
great companion when this is happening when Surah
Al-Alaq is coming down when Surah Al
-Mudathir is coming down the early day of
the Prophethood he lives with the Prophet ﷺ
and he's about 10 years old he's about
10 to 11 years so you have a
10 year old Ali and he'll accept Islam
and we'll talk about Ali and how he'll
accept Islam next week inshallah when we speak
about the first Muslims why did I mention
because now slowly you have Salah and subhanallah
there are some narrations that mention that you
had at some point in Mecca just the
Prophet's immediate family would pray Salah and people
would be like what are they doing?
what is that?
because they had no idea that this was
the beginning of something that would change the
course of history and the message of Islam
that we all believe in today inshallah my
brothers and sisters next week next week we
will speak about the beginning of the Prophet's
Dawah he started with his family and that's
a reminder for all of us to start
with our families if anyone is deserving of
your advice the most it's who?
your immediate family first and keep that in
mind and also what challenges will the Prophet
ﷺ face will everyone accept him?
will some reject him?
how bad will the rejection be?
and what are some of the things that
will happen throughout the coming weeks inshallah it's
all going to be about the message of
Islam and how it's spread in Mecca and
some of the challenges the Prophet ﷺ faced
I'm going to stop here and ask you
all if you have any questions I think
Mohsin will bring me the tablet have you
guys been told that there is a Slido
by the way the Slido for the sisters
only Mohsin it's for everybody it's for everyone
how can the brothers get access to it?
it's available on Telegram are you guys on
the Telegram groups?
I don't think these guys are on Telegram
groups right?
brothers there is a Telegram group for the
Al-Bina program including the Seerah so including
the Seerah program so please if you guys
can join inshallah let me read some of
the questions what religion did the Prophet ﷺ
follow before the Quran was revealed so I've
mentioned this before so I'm not going to
answer this you guys are going to answer
this who can answer this for me I'll
give you guys a hint yes Hanifiyah the
Prophet ﷺ was not a Hanafi Hanifiyah Jazakallah
Khair so Hanifiyah Hanifiyah was the path of
the Prophet ﷺ in singling out Allah in
worship and the practices of the Prophet ﷺ
that were passed down throughout the generations this
was known as Hanifiyah and that was what
the Prophet ﷺ was upon is it necessary
for a ok so this is not related
to Seerah so I'll come back to this
did the Prophet ﷺ work at any time
after revelation the Prophet ﷺ his work was
his mission was the Dawah but the Prophet
ﷺ did own at some point in his
life he did own property by property I
don't mean I don't mean property as in
buildings but he did have some wealth to
his name and land he had some land
but the Prophet ﷺ main work was his
mission which was being the messenger of mankind
when did the Prophet ﷺ realize he was
actually a Prophet was it after the first
revelation I think we covered that in the
class and the answer was it was after
the second revelation that everything became very clear
for him or when Jibreel literally says to
him I am Jibreel and you are the
messenger of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala we
have another question yes is it related to
Seerah yes
reconcile it's very simple because every messenger is
a Prophet so when a when a had
a because when a messenger is also a
Prophet so for example we call Prophet Muhammad
a Nabi right we call him Nabi but
does that mean he is not a messenger
he is also a messenger so the way
you reconcile there will be a Nabi that
did not have any follower this Nabi was
also a Rasul but he happened to be
called a Nabi right now the same way
we call Musa a Nabi although he was
also a messenger we say Nabi Allahi Musa
the Prophet of Allah Musa just because we
are calling him Nabi Allahi Musa does not
negate that he is also a a messenger
barakallah fik was Surah Al-Mudathir revealed all
at once no it was not the first
few ayats were revealed and the rest came
down later when did Angel Jibreel reveal himself
as natural state to the Prophet salallahu alayhi
wa sallam only two times only two times
one time was when the Prophet salallahu alayhi
wa sallam saw him right now the second
time he saw him in Surah Al-Mudathir
that's when he saw him in his real
state and that's why he was so shocked
the second time would be in Surah Al
-Mi'raj which we will cover inshallah did
the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam answer this
question is it necessary this is not related
to surah but we will cover it anyway
is it necessary is it necessary for a
wife to fulfill her duties to her husband
even though the husband does not fulfill his
duties back yes so when you are married
your your spouse has rights now those are
your responsibility if he or she is not
fulfilling her responsibility it does not mean that
you can also not fulfill your responsibility now
what you can do is while still fulfilling
the responsibilities that Allah has put on you
you can then seek ways to ensure your
haq is given to you as well whether
that is through arbitration whether that is through
counselling whether that is through involving family and
if the person insists on not giving you
their rights then Allah has given you options
out of that situation which is of course
a last measure not a first measure but
we do not stop giving the rights to
others for example among your rights among your
rights is that your spouse is kind to
you and uses kind words and is nice
to you if they are not then does
that mean it is fair game and we
are going to insult each other for the
rest of the day and that is not
how it works so you still do your
responsibility and if it gets too difficult then
then find inshallah ways to adjust that we
are going to inshallah stop here we are
going to stop here inshallah may Allah bless
you all
