In the name of
Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
By Him we seek help in the affairs
of this world and the religion.
Peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad
and his family and all his companions.
All the way up to the age of
40, where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala would
bless him with the final message.
Where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala would bless
mankind with His speech and guidance.
And where the story of the Muslims and
the believers that follow Prophet Muhammad salallahu alayhi
wa sallam begin.
It is extremely significant, extremely important that we
appreciate that beginning.
Because it is that beginning that is the
direct cause of us sitting here today, having
prayed Isha and being worshippers of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
You can trace it all the way back
to that day where Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala revealed upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad salallahu
alayhi wa sallam the first ayats from our
Creator.
But inshallah before I start, let me just
make a few announcements.
As you've been told before, this program, and
I think some of you perhaps only attend
the seerah, but it's just part of a
larger program that this masjid is doing, where
we are trying to build up the foundations
of our community and give them that sound
knowledge that is based upon the Quran and
the sunnah and the understanding of our righteous
predecessors, the salaf as-salih.
And we are doing this by having a
program that runs throughout the week, Monday, Wednesday,
and of course Friday, where you're learning aqeedah,
you're learning fiqh, and you're learning seerah.
I do encourage everyone to try and attend
those, and I understand that sometimes circumstances may
prevent you from coming to the masjid, but
you can still follow these classes online inshallah
wa ta'ala.
And like I've told you guys before, this
program is split into different parts, we call
them seasons if you will, and the first
season is ending today, where we took seven
sessions, seven lessons, starting from the Prophet's life
before he was even born, the state of
the Arab world, the peninsula, and all the
way until this lesson, where revelation starts.
And similarly, there was a similar journey with
the fiqh of purification, tahara, seven sessions that
really cover the basics of everything related to
worship and purification, and we had also aqeedah
lessons.
This is culminating into a reflection and relaxed
session next week this time, next week, Friday,
so next week there are no classes, there's
no aqeedah, there's no fiqh, and there's no
seerah, we're taking a break.
And that Friday, inshallah wa ta'ala, we
will be in the partition hall, where we
will be testing everyone's knowledge, and inshallah wa
ta'ala there will be some prizes and
giveaways, and you'll have opportunity to get to
know the instructors a bit better, and you
know, feel like the community that we are
inshallah wa ta'ala.
That's really important, so if you want to
attend, however, please follow our social media and
try and register for it, so that we
can have a decent understanding of the numbers
that are coming.
What will happen the week after that?
We will continue just as we were doing,
and we'll continue the Prophet's ﷺ life on
Fridays, and other classes will continue as well.
So next week, Friday, there's that evening that
we have planned for you, and then classes
will continue on as promised inshallah wa ta
'ala.
Is that clear for everyone?
Hayyakumullah.
Now before I start, I always like to
maybe use the opportunity to ask you guys
some questions, to see how much you've retained
from the previous lesson.
So the first question I'm going to ask
is, I see you're very excited, mashallah.
Are you ready for the questions?
Who was with the Prophet ﷺ?
Who was with the Prophet ﷺ when he
went out to gather the stones and the
rocks that the Kaaba will be built with?
So a lot of the Quraysh were going
and gathering the stones and the rocks to
rebuild the Kaaba.
Which individual was with the Prophet ﷺ?
Are you sure you know the answer?
Yes, go ahead then.
It was not Abu Bakr.
It was not Abu Bakr.
It was not Abu Bakr.
It was not Abu Bakr.
It was not Hamza either.
Okay, guys, come on.
Come on.
You at the back that is sitting down.
What did you say?
Zaid ibn Haritha is not dead.
Okay, guys.
This is not looking good.
Cameras are...
His uncle Abbas.
Jazakallahu khair.
Jazakallahu khair.
What's your name, Akhi?
Tayyib?
Tayyib.
Your answer was very Tayyib.
Tayyib.
Now, let me ask you guys another question.
What was the Prophet's ﷺ solution for the
Quraysh that were fighting over who gets the
honor to place the black stone in the
Kaaba?
What was the Prophet's solution?
Are you sure you know the answer?
What's your name, young man?
Mustafa.
Of course, I have to give it to
you.
You know why?
Me and you have the same name.
Did you not know that?
I'm called Mustafa as well.
All right, Mustafa.
Don't disappoint us.
You ready?
Tell us.
The Prophet made all the other tribes come
together and what did he put on the
ground?
A cloth.
Yes.
And what did they place on it?
The black stone.
And then everyone?
Jazakallahu khair.
Jazakallahu khair.
Mustafa, you did really well.
May Allah ﷻ bless our youngsters and may
Allah ﷻ make us among those that truly
know the story of the Prophet ﷺ and
learn lessons from it.
Tayyib, I'll stop here.
And today, inshallah ta'ala, what we're going
to cover is the first revelation that happened.
And we, inshallah ta'ala, are going to
learn what transpired.
The Prophet ﷺ, how did he end up
in the cave of Hira, Gharu Hira, to
begin with?
And the Angel Jibril coming to him.
And the aftermath of that.
And the importance as well as the significance
of these five ayahs that were revealed upon
the Prophet ﷺ.
Out of the whole Qur'an, 114 chapters,
why Surah al-Alaq?
Why Iqra?
Inshallah ta'ala we're going to cover all
of that.
Let's start with the Prophet ﷺ.
I mentioned that the dreams of the Prophet
were coming true.
Every single time he would dream, when he
would wake up, that dream would come true.
Whatever he saw people doing in his dreams
would be a reality.
And the reason for that was Allah ﷻ
was preparing our Prophet to believe the visions
that he sees.
So this was almost like a development and
a training for the Prophet ﷺ.
In fact, some riwayat mention that among the
dreams the Prophet saw was the incident that
will happen in cave Hira.
So before the incident of cave Hira happens,
he saw that event transpire in a dream.
Some of the narrations mention that when he
comes back to Khadija and he is worried
and the Prophet ﷺ is not sure what's
going on, he said, have I not told
you that I saw this in a dream?
So again, everything the Prophet sees in a
dream is happening.
Then something else happened to our beloved Prophet
Muhammad ﷺ.
He's reaching the age of 40.
The Prophet ﷺ is becoming increasingly disillusioned with
the society.
He doesn't like the shirk that they're practicing.
He wishes people would be connected to their
Creator.
He wants a better world and a better
community.
He sees the oppression that they are doing.
He feels that something needs to be rectified,
but that final bit of guidance is not
there yet.
So Aisha r.a reports.
Interestingly enough, this is the first hadith in
Bukhari.
She talks about how the revelation started.
She mentioned the fact that the Prophet's revelation
started with these dreams that he was seeing.
Then after that, the Prophet ﷺ started to
love seclusion and solitude.
He would love to be by himself, separated
from the community and society.
Now why would the Prophet ﷺ want to
be separated from the community and society?
Because of the evil that was transpiring in
his community and society.
The idol worship, the oppression, the injustice, all
of that.
So he preferred to be by himself.
And what would he do ﷺ?
He would go and travel to the north
of Mecca.
To a mountain that's now called the Mountain
of Nur.
And on top of it was a cave.
It's more of a crevice to be honest.
That the Prophet ﷺ would sit in.
And subhanallah, when you're sitting in it, you
have a direct line and a vision of
the Kaaba.
It's two miles away, but until today when
you're there, you can see the Kaaba from
it directly.
Allahu Akbar.
And it is said that the person that
discovered that place was the Prophet's grandfather, Abdul
Muttalib.
So the Prophet ﷺ would gather some food.
His wife Khadija would prepare some food for
him.
And he would be gone.
Many, many nights he would be gone.
He would spend the nights there.
Many days he would be there.
And what was he doing there?
What was he doing there ﷺ?
The hadith mentions, He would do what is
called And the Salaf, they translated this as
He would worship.
Question, how was he worshipping if there's no
Qur'an revealed yet?
If there's no Salah revealed yet?
If there's no Dhikr revealed yet?
How was he worshipping?
And this became a discussion point among scholars.
And some of them would say, he would
worship.
And there's several statements and opinions.
The strongest one being, he would worship upon
the way of Prophet Ibrahim ﷺ.
And how does he know about the way
of Prophet Ibrahim ﷺ?
Because the Meccans, like I mentioned many times,
Inherited many practices that was from Prophet Ibrahim
and his son Ismail.
Such as the tawaf around the Kaaba.
Such as the understanding, the honor of the
Black Stone.
And other than that.
So the Prophet ﷺ was upon Hanifiyyah.
In fact, some of the narrators did not
say, Which comes from Hanifiyyah, meaning being upon
the way of Prophet Ibrahim ﷺ.
And other scholars have mentioned that he would
do Pondering.
Pondering over the world.
Pondering over his community.
Thinking about his creator.
And pondering is a great worship.
And in fact, sometimes what you need to
allow yourself, Is when you're out in the
world.
And it doesn't have to be, you don't
have to go far.
You don't have to go to the beach
and see the beautiful horizon, the sea.
Wallahi, you could be in your own garden.
You could contemplate looking at a plant.
How it grows.
If you have a plant at home and
you water it, how it grows.
How Allah is making it grow.
How Allah ﷻ is causing this seed to
grow.
You ponder over that and you remember Allah's
ﷻ power.
Allah's ﷻ influence of every single little thing
that happens in this world.
And how Allah deserves our praise constantly.
And how we not worship him enough.
And we do not thank him enough.
And we do not glorify Allah ﷻ enough.
So the Prophet ﷺ would do tafakkur.
And others have said, some ulama have said,
The fact that he's separating himself from his
society, Due to the sin that they are
in, itself is an act of worship.
And separating yourself from the place where sin
is happening, This is an act of worship.
And the strongest evidence of that is what
the people of Kahf did.
What the people of Kahf did.
The young group, they left their society.
Because that was a society of shirk.
And they went into that cave seeking refuge
from Allah ﷻ.
From these people and what they are upon.
Now, it's important to remember though, That when
you have responsibility to the society, You don't
just leave them.
They need da'wah.
But the Prophet ﷺ at that particular time
was not able to help his people.
Because he did not unlock the answers for
their guidance yet.
So the moment Allah ﷻ reveals guidance upon
him, He doesn't stay separated.
He mixes with them and calls them to
Islam.
So you always have to keep those two
things in mind.
If you are in a small group setting,
And you realize that this group setting, This
friend group, this place, this class, this university,
This neighborhood is impacting you negatively.
And you can't do anything about that, Then
you move away from it.
But if you can have a positive impact,
Then you stay there and you try to
rectify.
You call them towards good.
You try to change them.
Never at the expense of yourself, But you
always have to keep that in mind.
The Prophet ﷺ is leaving, And Khadija is
packing his food for him.
May Allah ﷻ be pleased with her.
What a great support she was for the
Prophet ﷺ.
And he makes his way, And he is
in Ghar Hira.
And he is there for many, many days.
Which month is this?
This is the month of Ramadan.
And some of us could say, How can
there be a month of Ramadan, If the
Qur'an hasn't even been revealed yet?
And the answer is, these months existed, And
were something that were practiced, Before the emergence
of the Risal, And the message of the
Prophet ﷺ.
So the month of Ramadan, Which is the
ninth month of the lunar calendar, The Prophet
ﷺ is there, it's a blessed month.
Let me give you an understanding of what's
been happening at this time.
Now, it's close.
The answers are about to come.
Revelation from the Creator of the heavens and
the earth, Is about to come.
And to move away from Mecca, And the
Prophet ﷺ for a second, And move to
a completely different world, The world of the
jinn, and the shayateen.
What was happening there?
They noticed a change in the heavens.
As they would travel up, To gather the
news, And what's happening, And what the angels
are saying, All of a sudden they found
that They found, There is something happening.
What's going on?
All of a sudden there are angels going
to the heavens.
Why?
Because something big is about to happen.
Revelation is about to start.
The final and greatest revelation.
So, Everything is being prepared for this moment.
And, At this time, In Mecca, In Mecca,
yes, Are the men, And the women, That
will cause great harm to our Prophet.
But also, Are the men, and the women,
That will be the greatest support of our
Prophet ﷺ.
Abu Bakr is not too far off.
Khadijah is in the Prophet's home.
Young Ali, and young Zayd are there.
Bilal, Is at this point in time, Still
in captivity.
But they don't know about Islam yet.
But all those men, and women, That have
no idea, And Yasir, And these great companions
of the Prophet ﷺ, Uthman ibn Affan, Who
will become his son-in-law, They are
all there, No idea, That all of their
lives is about to change.
All of their lives.
In fact, You would say, The world is
about to change.
Rasulullah is sitting, ﷺ, And then, That, Momentous
occasion happens.
When Angel Jibreel descends, And comes to him,
ﷺ, And says those words, Iqara.
Iqara.
Now, Angel Jibreel, Did not appear to the
Prophet ﷺ, In his real form, Except twice.
This is important information.
The Prophet ﷺ only saw, Angel Jibreel, In
his real form twice.
One, Was when they ascended together, To the
heavens.
And met Allah ﷻ.
And the other time, Was when the Prophet
ﷺ, Requested, And Allah mentioned this in the
Qur'an.
So this occasion, Who comes in?
And says to him, Iqara.
And the Prophet ﷺ replies, Shocked, who is
this person?
What do they want from me?
Who are you?
But the Prophet ﷺ immediately replies, And then,
Angel Jibreel grabs the Prophet ﷺ, And squeezes
him.
And says, Iqara.
And the Prophet ﷺ says, I am not
one who reads.
I am not one who recites.
And then the third time, Iqara.
And the Prophet ﷺ replies, I am not
one who reads or recites.
Iqara.
The Prophet ﷺ mentioned, That how hard, Angel
Jibreel squeezed him, And held him to the
point, Until the Prophet ﷺ felt, Exhausted, tired.
And the Prophet ﷺ, Did not understand what
was happening.
And there's a lot of things, That needs
to be unpacked, Just from that bit.
Starting with, The Prophet's reply.
Recite, Or read.
You can translate it in both, The Prophet
ﷺ says, The Ulama said, The beauty of
the Arabic language, The word, Can have several
meanings.
Some of the Ulama have said, That the
first reply of the Prophet ﷺ, Is a
reply of, Who are you to tell me
what to do?
I'm not going to read, Just because you
asked me.
And the second one was, I don't know,
What to read, And how to read.
And the third one was, What is it
that you want me to read?
And it came as a question.
And that's only then, Is when Angel Jibril
replied to him, With the revelation given to
him, By Allah ﷻ.
What is the significance, Of Angel Jibril, Squeezing
the Prophet, And causing the Prophet ﷺ, This
immense worry, And exhaustion?
And the answer to that, Is what my
brothers, The Ulama have said several.
One is, He needed to understand, That what
he was seeing was real, Not fake.
Meaning he wasn't imagining it, It was real.
He needed to feel, That what he was
seeing, Was a real person, And a real
entity in the cave.
Not a vision, And not a dream.
Number one.
The words of Allah, And the words of
Allah are heavy.
The words of Allah, It is not something
that is trivial, It is a serious matter.
And to also really get his attention, ﷺ.
Others have said, That these three squeezes, Represented
three major difficulties, That the Prophet would face,
After that incident.
When he becomes a Prophet, He would face
the first major difficulty, When his community, Not
only ostracized him, But his whole clan.
And they lived in a valley, And they
were boycotted.
That was the first difficulty.
The second difficulty would be, That his people,
Will not only cast him out, But there
will be an assassination plot against him.
And the third difficulty would be, That they
would invade him in Medina, His city.
Not only kill his uncle, But injure him
greatly.
It is a great path, And a great
journey, But it is not without difficulty.
And also, Each time he would let him
go, He would feel relief.
And that relief is indicative of what Allah
tells in the Quran, Indeed, with difficulty comes
ease.
And indeed, With this journey you are upon,
That you are going to call the people
away from shirk.
And upon Islam, It will be a path
filled with challenges, Trials and difficulties.
There will also be moments of relief, Ease,
And moments of joy and happiness as well.
And there is no greater joy, Than Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala speaking to you, And
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala blessing you, With
his guidance.
The word Iqra' Is a very fascinating word.
Iqra' could mean, To read something that is
written down.
So you read a message, I read the
message.
But Iqra' can also mean, To recite something.
On the Day of Judgment, The people that
have memorized the Quran, Will be told, Iqra'
Recite.
They won't be reading something, They will be
reciting the Quran, That they were taught, That
they read in the juniyah.
The Prophet said to the Sahaba, To Abdullah
ibn Mas'ud, Iqra' alayhi al-Quran, Recite
upon me the Quran.
Reading would mean, That you read something that
is written down.
But the word Iqra' means to read, But
also to recite.
It has a third meaning as well.
If someone says, Iqra' alayhi as-salam, There
is a famous narration, Powerful hadith, Where Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, Is so pleased, With
the wife of the Prophet Khadijah, That he
says, Angel Jibril comes down, And says, I
have a message from our Lord, That he
said, He is not reading, Not reciting, But
he is sending her his salam.
Or preaching, Or propagating.
When you spread a message, It's called qira'
as well.
When you spread a message, It's called qira'
as well.
So the Prophet is not only being told,
In the ayah, Iqra' read, Or Iqra' recite,
But also Iqra', Whatever you are about to
learn here, And everything else, You are going
to spread that.
Spread the salam, right?
This is also qira'a.
So the word Iqra' carries several meanings.
Iqra' bismi rabbik.
Recite, But don't just recite.
Bismi rabbik.
In the name of your Rabb.
Your Rabb.
Your Lord.
Usually, when we say, We say bismillah.
What does bismillah mean?
In the name of Allah.
What does bismi rabbika mean?
In the name of your Lord.
Now what is the difference between Bismillah and
bismi rabbik?
When you say bismillah, In the name of
Allah, The word Allah means the one we
worship, And is deserving of our worship.
The word Allah, Is the one worthy, Deserving
of our Constant devotion and worship.
It has something to do with our actions.
We worship Allah.
We worship Allah.
We pray to Allah.
But the word Rabb is about Allah.
And what Allah does for us.
The word Rabb, Is all about what Allah
does for us.
Which is why a lot of time in
our du'a, We use the word Rabb.
All of the prophets when they made du
'a, They would call upon Allah using the
word Rabb.
But most of the time, Rabb yaghfir li
wa li waridiyya.
Rabb arini kayfa tuhji almouta.
You know, the word Rabb, Rabbana hablana ameen
azwajina.
Why?
Because the word Rabb is the one, It
really entails everything Allah does.
The af'al of Allah.
The one who creates.
The one who provides.
The one who sustains.
The one who guides.
That's who the Rabb is.
We're going to have to wait until you
turn it off.
Apun sheikh.
So Allah is teaching the prophet here, Immediately,
Read in the name of your Rabb.
The one who will guide you.
The one who has created you.
The one who has protected you.
The one who has done everything for you.
The one who is yours.
It was an element of feeling that he
is personal to you.
And that's how we should feel with Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the one,
Each one of us right now.
If you take a moment and think about
All of the blessings in your life.
It is Allah who gave that to you.
He is your Lord.
He is my Lord.
He is the Lord of the worlds.
Read in the name of your Lord.
The ulama also say here, And I'm sorry
everyone, But it's important that we really unpack
these ayats.
Because there is a question, Why these ayats?
Why these ayats?
And inshallah when we unpack them, It will
make sense.
Read in the name of your Lord.
Angel Jibreel is saying this, But immediately what's
clear from that is, This message is not
from Jibreel.
It's from who?
It's from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And then Allah says, The one who has
created.
The one who has created.
Created what?
The one who has created everything.
And here immediately, Recite and read in the
name of your Lord.
Seeking your Lord's blessings.
And this is something very important, right?
We seek blessings from the name of Allah.
Hence why we say His name with everything
that we do.
Bismillah before we eat.
Bismillah before we enter our home.
Bismillah when we leave our home.
Bismillah all the time, every time.
Because in the name of Allah is all
blessings.
Tabarakasmu rabbika.
Blessed is the name of who?
Of your Lord.
So always keep that in mind, right?
Keep Allah's name always on your tongue.
Because Allah's name is blessed.
Iqra' bismi rabbika allathee khalaq.
Recite in the name of your Lord who
has created.
Khalaq.
There is no specification here.
Why?
Because here the Prophet is being taught, and
we are being taught that Allah is the
creator of everything.
Then Allah becomes a bit more specific in
the following ayah.
Iqra' bismi rabbika allathee khalaq.
Khalaqal insana min alaq.
The ulama, they say, when something general is
mentioned, and then after that, a specific something
that is part of that general is mentioned,
it shows that that is special.
I'll give you an example.
Allah mentions in the Quran, Qul man kana
adwanillahi wa malaikatihi.
Whoever shows animosity and becomes an enemy to
Allah and his angels.
His angels, right?
Now Allah mentions Jibreel and Mikal.
And Jibreel and Mikal.
But aren't Jibreel and Mikal part of the
angels?
So why are they mentioned separately, although they
were just including the angels?
Because they're special.
Because they are special.
And people use that sometimes.
It's everyone here.
Yes, everyone is here.
The bride and the groom.
If I say that.
They're part of everyone.
Why mention it?
Because there's an importance.
The wedding can't happen without them, right?
So even in language and the way we
use it, you will sometimes specify that which
is important, right?
Allah said, allathee khalaq the one who has
created.
Khalaqal insana has created mankind, min alaq from
cloth.
Allah is mentioning the creation of insan here
specifically because the insan, mankind, have been honored
by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
They have been honored by Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala with intellect.
They have been honored by Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala with free will.
They have been honored by Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala by preferring them over all other
creation.
Allah said, karamna bani adam We have indeed
honored mankind.
So immediately you should feel a sense of
here you are, your Lord Allah introducing Himself
to you and He's telling you that you
are an honored being.
You are an honored being.
And that's why we are meant to honor
each other.
We are meant to honor each other because
the bani adam, he, the human being, is
honored by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Khalaqal insan, the one who has created man,
min alaq from cloth.
And it's interesting why Allah used cloth.
Because in some other ayat, Allah mentioned that
He's created us from a drop, min nutfa,
from water, from turab sometimes, referencing to Adam
alayhi salam.
But who is excluded here that was not
created from alaq, cloth?
It's Adam.
What was Adam created from?
Prophet Adam alayhi salam.
Yes, tell me.
Prophet Adam was created from huh?
Very good.
Clay.
And what was our mother and the mother
of all of mankind created from?
Hmm?
The same?
No.
Yes, Akhi.
From the rib of Adam.
So she's also not created from cloth.
So everyone else, everyone else grew and was
created by Allah that Rabb nurtured and grew
in their mother's womb until they became fully
formed human beings.
What about Prophet Isa alayhi salam?
Included or excluded?
Prophet Isa alayhi salam.
Huh?
Raise your hand if you think he's included.
Raise your hand if you think he's excluded.
He's included.
Why?
Because he grew in his mother's womb like
any other baby.
He grew in his mother's womb like any
other baby.
The only difference was that he was not
created from a man.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala created Prophet Isa
in his mother's womb.
He was a piece of cloth that grows
and grows and grows.
And of course this is reference to how
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala creates us in
stages, how he grows us, how he nurtures
us.
It is again a reference from his Rabubiyah.
And a reminder, although you are honored, remember
your beginnings.
Although you are honored, you have no right
to be prideful.
Remember your beginnings.
And then Allah says again, Recite.
And your Lord is the most generous.
All of these are prophets hearing it in
the cave.
Your Lord is the most generous.
Allah is the most generous.
He's generous that he's created us.
Wallahi, Allah chose us to exist and without
him we wouldn't exist.
Allah was so generous by allowing us to
exist, allowing us to be Muslims, allowing us
to eat and drink, allowing us to have
families, allowing us for all of this.
generosity.
And then here Allah is telling us that
he is not just generous he's Al-Akram,
the most generous.
Allah wants to give.
Allah wants to forgive.
Allah wants to guide.
Allah wants to accept your repentance.
Allah wants you to go to Jannah.
That's why Allah is Al-Akram, the most
generous.
Allah is Al-Akram.
Then Allah tells us what is an example
of Allah's generosity.
The one who taught.
Knowledge.
Knowledge.
The knowledge you're about to receive from Muhammad
is the greatest example of Allah's generosity.
The knowledge of the Quran is a greater
generosity than anything you've ever had.
Allah is the one that taught but Allah
has kept it general here.
The Quran is the key part of it
and in Surah Ar-Rahman Allah mentions this.
Ar-Rahman, the most merciful, Allama al-Qur
'an, taught the Quran.
Right?
Now Allah is telling us Alladhi Allama the
one who taught, bilqalam with the pen.
And here Allah is referencing the pen.
Significance of the pen.
All of the knowledge of mankind, many of
it is transmitted orally but that which preserved
and is remembered is transmitted through writing.
And the pen is something we take for
granted especially now that we type I guess.
But honestly my brothers and sisters, Allah Almighty
to mention the pen in the Quran, in
the first bit of revelation.
If you can't look in these, if someone
were to analyze these five ayats, ilm is
mentioned so many times.
Right?
Allama al-insana, alladhi allama bilqalam, allama al
-insana ma lam ya'lam.
The word ilm is mentioned three times.
Knowledge.
Its importance for the development of mankind but
especially from a spiritual perspective.
Especially to the Arabs who at that time
were not a people that wrote, were not
a people that preserved knowledge, were not a
people that had a long heritage of knowledge.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is sending them
a prophet that will transform their world.
And truly he did.
With the Quran of course.
Iqara wa rabbuka al-akramalladhi allama the one
who has taught bilqalam with the pen.
Allama al-insana taught mankind ma lam ya
'lam.
That you do not know.
Wallahi we did not know anything before Islam.
It is through Islam we know so much.
The justice that we think we know is
through Islam.
The honor that we know is through Islam.
Many of the knowledges that we practice today
is because of Islam.
Something that we take for granted.
The covering of our awrah.
The taking care of your neighbors.
The importance of your parents.
The Quran and all of the stories that
came before.
The concept of patience.
Understanding how to deal with difficulty.
Understanding how Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala operates
in this world and why evil happens.
Being able to navigate this world in a
way that allows you to understand not only
right from wrong but what's appropriate and what
isn't.
And to be able.
This is all from ilm.
Let's read the ayats one more time and
then move on to what happens after.
Iqara bismi rabbika alladhi khalaq.
Recite in the name of your Lord who
has created.
Khalaq al-insana min alaq.
He has created mankind from something as small
as alaq.
Iqara wa rabbuka al-akram.
Recite and your Lord is the most generous.
Alladhi allama bilqalam.
He who has taught by the pen.
Allama al-insan.
Taught mankind.
Ma lam ya'lam.
What they do not know.
Quraysh did not know that they need to
worship Allah alone and that is their salvation
in dunya and akhira.
They did not know respecting neighbors and honoring
parents and taking care of the destitute.
They did not know anything until Allah sends
them a prophet.
And when we get to the story of
Ja'far ibn Abi Talib.
A beautiful moment in history where Ja'far
the cousin of the Prophet stands in front
of the king of Habesha and the king
of Habesha Najash he says to him why
do you follow Muhammad and he says we
follow him because one two three four five.
I won't spoil it now.
Come to the classes and you'll hear that
inshallah ta'ala.
But when he mentioned that he mentions where
they were and where this deen took them.
That's what Allah is referencing here and says
taught mankind that which you do not know.
Honor and Tawheed number one and then all
of the akhlaq and the manners and everything
to do with that.
The Prophet received these ayats.
What happens?
Ibn Jibreel goes away.
The Prophet descends from the hill.
He doesn't fully understand what just happened.
The Quran is heavy.
Allah says Allah mentioned the Quran is heavy.
It's powerful.
It's not easy.
In fact revelation was not easy upon the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
And let me expand upon that a little
bit more.
How did the Prophet used to receive revelation?
Even later how did revelation used to come
to Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam?
There are several ways.
Number one was what happened right now where
Angel Jibreel would come to him directly.
That's one way of revelation where Angel Jibreel
would come to him directly.
Another one was that Angel Jibreel would inspired
in his heart.
Right?
He would blow in his heart and the
Prophet would be inspired through Angel Jibreel in
that way.
Right?
And then there was another one and the
Prophet said this was the most difficult on
him.
And Aisha r.a mentioned that revelation used
to come to him like a ringing bell
and or a buzzing noise before the revelation
comes to him.
And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would
feel very heavy.
And even if it's on a cold afternoon
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would be
sweating before the revelation would come upon him.
So it wasn't the Quran is heavy.
The Quran is heavy.
And the reason it is heavy is because
there's a burden of responsibility.
However those that accept that responsibility and act
upon it, it's very light upon them.
But the initial reception of course of the
Quran was heavy.
So that's the third one.
A fourth one was that Allah speaks to
the Prophet directly.
And that was an honor Allah gave the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam on the night
journey.
Where he journeyed to Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala and Allah spoke to him directly.
And the Prophet reached a level where even
Angel Jibreel could not go with him as
he got near to his Lord Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala and spoke to him.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala revealed upon
him one of the greatest acts of worship.
Who can tell you what act of worship
that was?
The Salah.
Jazakallah khair.
And that should help you realize the importance
of the Salah.
The Prophet comes and he goes home.
And when he goes home Khadija is there.
And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is
visibly upset.
He is shocked.
And the first thing he says to her
is Zambiloni Zambiloni cover me cover me.
And the Prophet lies down.
And the hadith mentions that he had Rauh.
He was terrified.
And the ulama they asked themselves the question
what terrified the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam?
Was it the experience?
Was it the responsibility?
Was it that he is not used to
engaging with this being Angel Jibreel?
In any case he lied down until this
Rauh this fear left him.
And then here you see the importance of
a caring intelligent loving wife.
Here you see it.
The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam comes home.
He's been gone perhaps for many days.
There's no such thing as where you've been
and we needed this and all this happened
and none of that.
And then when he comes and he tells
her her experience she listens.
She assures.
She gives words of encouragement and support.
Brothers and sisters if someone comes to you
and they are shocked they are worried they
are telling you something listen to them and
give them words of reassurance.
That's the least you can do.
That's the least you can do.
If someone comes to you I'm worried about
this and that and that and say well
yeah you should be worried man.
You should be worried.
This is causing more anxiety.
Your job is to relieve the anxiety if
you want to be like the greatest woman
Khadija.
And then she tells the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam lasting words.
Beautiful words.
She said to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
was hurt.
She said never will Allah humiliate you and
cause you harm oh Muhammad.
Why?
Because you are kind to others and you
keep the ties of kinship and she said
She mentioned the Prophet's qualities.
She said nothing bad will happen to you
because you are someone that takes care of
those in need.
You keep the ties of kinship.
You support the oppressive.
You feed the needy.
Someone like you nothing bad will happen to
you.
Don't you worry.
And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam calms
down.
Then she takes initiative and watch this.
What do you do when someone needs help
but you don't have the expertise or the
knowledge to help You signpost them to someone
that can.
My brother, my sister, I don't have the
answers.
Let me find someone that does.
My brother, my sister, I don't know how
to help you but I can help you
find someone that can.
She takes the Rasul sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
to Waraqah ibn Naufal who was among the
few that were upon Hanifiyyah.
Remember I spoke about Hanifiyyah last week.
Who can tell what Hanifiyyah is?
I want someone in this direction.
What is Hanifiyyah?
No?
Yes my brother.
Yes it is.
And which Prophet lived by this and exemplified
Hanifiyyah?
Prophet Ibrahim alayhi salam.
Very good.
So there were a few individuals within Mecca
and its surroundings that lived by Hanifiyyah.
In other words they were upon Tawheed not
Shirk.
And Waraqah was one among those.
And also Waraqah was a convert to the
Nasraniyah, the way of Prophet Isa alayhi salam.
And he would read those scriptures.
And he had an understanding that a prophet
was about to emerge.
Khadija who was related to him takes the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to Waraqah.
And Waraqah listens to his experience and what
happens and immediately puts two and two together
and tells the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
the archangel, the one that came to Musa
came to you.
Nothing else happened to you.
But clearly you are the messenger and the
Prophet of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And then he tells the Prophet something very
powerful.
He says to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam, I wish I was a young man
so that I can be there for you
when your people take you out of your
city and they cast you out.
And then the Prophet cannot believe this.
He cannot believe this.
He asks a question, are they going to
cast me out?
Why is the Prophet surprised about this?
Because the Prophet just not too long ago,
he resolved one of the greatest disputes between
them.
He is known as As-Sadiq al-Amin,
the truthful and the trustworthy.
Everybody respects him and likes him.
He's the grandson of Abdul Mudalib.
How can he be cast out?
And then Waraqa says to him, never has
one come with that which you will come
with, except the people have pushed back, rejected
and cast him out.
And then he says, if I was young
when that happens, I would be there for
you.
Waraqa died before the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam was told to preach.
Insha'Allah from, I guess next week we
don't have a lesson from the week after,
we will start talking about what did those
beginning days look like?
What was revealed after these five ayaat?
How did the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
tackle this new mission of his of guiding
mankind away from idolatry, shirk, disbelief, oppression and
sin, towards that which will lead them to
Jannah?
And who were his first supporters?
How did his family take it?
How did his extended family take it?
And insha'Allah it is in our next
season, if you will, where we start meeting
these great figures in Islam, Abu Bakr al
-Siddiq radiallahu anhu, Umar ibn al-Khattab at
a later stage, the Prophet's uncle Hamza, before
all of that Khadija bint Khuwaylid.
Wallahi a lot of our brothers and sisters
kind of sleep on the importance and the
centrality of someone like Khadija bint Khuwaylid.
She was the first to accept Islam on
this earth.
She was by the side of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam until her death.
She was so special, the creator of mankind
and the creator of the heavens and the
earth specifically sent her salam.
She has a special spot in Jannah.
And we'll see her influence and importance insha
'Allah as well as all the other companions
and the challenges the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam faced.
So in other words, the real seerah starts
in two weeks time, where we actually see
the beginning of revelation and all the things
that come with that insha'Allah ta'ala.
I hope all of you continue coming, continue
benefiting not just from the seerah class, but
also from the fiqh and the aqeedah classes.
I hope to see you all next week,
Friday.
Make sure you register though, please make sure
you register so that we have an understanding.
If you go to our social media pages,
you can find ways to register and join
us insha'Allah ta'ala to test your
knowledge of seerah, fiqh and aqeedah on next
Friday.
Jazakumullah khair for attending.
And we will start with our questions that
we take from all of you.
Muhsinur Abdul Rahman, if you can bring me
the tablet for the sisters insha'Allah ta
'ala and their questions as well.
Brothers, if you have any questions, you can
raise your hand insha'Allah.
No questions tonight?
Alhamdulillah.
You know what I do, right?
If there are no questions, I ask you
guys questions.
Nothing?
SubhanAllah.
So, alhamdulillah.
Sheikh, I was about to say there are
no questions tonight in the class.
Go ahead.
Who was the best among women?
Was it Aisha or Khadija?
The scholars differ over this.
The scholars differ over this.
And when it comes to the virtuous women
generally, there are several dimensions and it's important
that we know there were many great, all
of the women around the Messenger were great,
were blessed, were special, were great companions of
the Prophet ﷺ.
But there is a narration that mentions you
have, of course, the one and only woman
that is mentioned in the Qur'an by
name.
Who can tell me who that is?
Maryam alayhi salam.
Maryam.
And then you have the wife of Fir
'aun, Aasia, a believer in the house of
the worst person, right?
Aasia bint Muzahin.
So that's two, right?
Great women that are mentioned.
You have Maryam, you have Aasia.
Then you have Khadija bint Khuwaylid, the first
wife of the Prophet ﷺ, the first Muslim
to believe in the Prophet ﷺ.
Then you have Aisha bint al-Bakr.
And you know, in fact, let me give
you a very interesting dynamic here between Khadija
and Aisha and how important they both were
for the Prophet ﷺ in different stages of
his life.
Here you have the Prophet ﷺ in the
beginning of prophethood.
He is being supported and you have Khadija
putting the covering on him and supporting him
in the beginning of his revelation.
You have his wife, Khadija, with him.
His last moments, Aisha bint al-'Ala mentioned.
And we will get there, inshallah ta'ala,
by the end, towards the end of next
year as we continue with the seerah, where
we will discuss a, subhanAllah, is a lecture
that's always difficult for me to do.
His final moments ﷺ.
Aisha said, he died on her lap.
His last moments, his head was on Aisha.
Rasulullah ﷺ's first moments after revelation, he is
with Khadija.
His last moments in this world, he is
with Aisha.
And that shows you just our mothers, Khadija
and Aisha.
And I don't want to take anything away
from all the other mothers as well who
had different moments.
And we'll get to know all of them,
inshallah ta'ala.
So your question, who is more virtuous, Aisha?
The Prophet ﷺ mentioned in a hadith that
Aisha is better than all women.
In the hadith, we mentioned that the similarity
between Aisha and woman is like thareed and
other types of food.
And thareed was the best type of food.
In other words, that would indicate that Aisha
is the best.
However, the Prophet ﷺ would often put Khadija
in her own bracket.
You know how they talk about, and I
don't want to make this analogy, lest it
becomes a little bit distasteful, but you know
how they talk about sometimes people in sports
and they say such and such is in
his own bracket.
He's not, he's in his own bracket.
Khadija is in her own bracket.
Khadija is in her own bracket.
Khadija, you'll see, inshallah ta'ala, come to
the lectures and you'll see the kind of
very strong moments that she had with the
Prophet ﷺ.
May Allah bless our mothers, all of them.
May Allah bless all of our mothers.
Did Waraqa influence Khadija, the fact that he
was upon Hanifiyah?
Allah A'lam.
It's not particularly clear, but it was clear.
Clearly she was influenced even before that, because
guess who is closer to her?
That was also upon Hanifiyah.
The Prophet ﷺ himself was also upon Hanifiyah.
So yeah, if there was anyone that's going
to influence Khadija, because the Prophet was not
an idol worshipper, really important to send.
And if the Prophet is not an idol
worshipper, do you think his household will be
idol worshippers?
Of course not.
Even Abu Bakr, it is mentioned in some
riwayat, that he never engaged in idol worship.
But again, I'll see you all next week,
Friday, inshallah ta'ala, for the event.
And then next week after that, the 4th
of November, I believe, that week, we'll start
our classes.
Jazakumullah khair.
