Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatu wa barakatuh As announced
We will begin now our first event in
the new series entitled Saturday Night at Green
Lane Masjid and this event today is hot
seat which he's sitting on.
Not really hot, the point is there'll be
questions directed to the Shaykh and hopefully he
won't swear.
We will start inshallah So these are some
of the questions that have been sent in
and we have quite a few inshallah we
hope that we manage to finish all the
questions inshallah but there is no guarantee.
The first question Shaykh, does a person have
to make up years of prayer that they
have missed from the past?
First of all it is my understanding that
a lot of people have sent in questions
if it happens to be the case that
your questions have not been answered I do
want to apologize beforehand and inshallah as this
is an ongoing program we will get to
those questions inshallah in the future.
And as it relates to the question about
the salah so the prayer the salah is
extremely extremely important for us to uphold and
the first thing Allah will ask you about
on day of judgment is your salah and
it is something that is a personal obligation
and responsibility.
What happens if you miss a lot of
prayers?
There are two views that the ulema have
generally speaking and brothers brothers over there yes
in that corner if you want to have
a conversation please don't do it here.
Jazakumullah khair.
So as I was saying the salah is
an extremely important ibadah if you don't pray
you have to make it up but you
have to have an excuse to have missed
that prayer so the prophet says in a
hadith whoever sleeps or oversleeps or forgets to
pray then let him do that when he
remembers this is called qada so you're allowed
to make up a prayer if you have
a valid excuse and you missed it what
if you did not have a valid excuse
and you purposely ignored it until the salah
time was past and you were aware of
it but you consciously decided not to pray
then this is a huge problem and some
of the ulema when are so severe on
this they said that the person that delays
the prayer on purpose without any care is
not even a muslim so this is not
a joke however the issue of making it
up so let's say someone was neglectful this
person he was extremely sinful and he didn't
pray and didn't really care for their prayer
and then months became years years became uh
decades then all of a sudden they repent
and now they are worried and concerned over
the many salats that they have missed what
should they do the there is an opinion
that says that they need to make up
all those prayers and that can be a
very daunting task but a lot of the
ulema and i would actually argue the majority
of the ulema say you have to make
up those prayers because they are something allah
has obligated upon you that you need to
make them up and they give certain advice
on how to make it up and they
say for instance that because there is so
much that you have to do that you
pray quickly and you only do the arkan
so you just read fatiha you just say
subhanallah one time and you try to do
as much as you can every day until
you get rid of the debt however other
ulema say and this seems to be the
stronger opinion that that the same way you
cannot pray a salah before it's time for
example for example it is not isha time
yet can i just pray isha now if
i wanted to can i say i'm going
to pray isha now no because isha time
has not started yet similarly if the time
of the salah is past and you had
no excuse allah says in the quran indeed
the prayer has a prescribed time and you
missed it all you have is to repent
for this repent allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
seek a lot of forgiveness be extremely regretful
and instead of worrying about the past prayers
that you've missed you do a lot of
sunnah salats as much as you can you
pray qiyam you pray your sunnah for fajr
you pray darawatib and you are very regretful
and inshallah allah will forgive you jazakallahu khair
shaykhna uh second question completely different uh as
a muslim we have to perform hijrah once
we have collected our provisions from foreign land
however now that islam has spread and many
muslims uh have created communities uh in the
muslim countries can we remain there instead of
traveling or can remain here afwan in in
these countries instead of moving to muslim countries
so this person is asking about hijrah hijrah
is to move from a land of the
believers from the land of the disbelievers to
the land of the believers this is usually
how it's usually translated as although that's not
really accurate who can tell me when the
first hijrah was it was from mecca to
where no it wasn't that was the second
hijrah to abyssinia and it was muslim land
it wasn't the first hijrah was from a
idol worshiping city which is mecca to a
christian land which was in abyssinia that was
the hijrah so it wasn't from muslim land
to a muslim land it was from a
place where you could not freely worship allah
because you're being prosecuted to a place where
you could freely worship allah where you could
worship free allah um this is a other
meaning the point of hijrah is to freely
be able to worship allah without fear for
our persecution where you can act upon the
deen and you do not fear for your
life for your family and you do not
fear for misguidance being forced upon you this
is the point of hijrah so the ulama
say if you live in an area where
you cannot practice your deen where you cannot
wear where you cannot pray and establish masajid
then it is wajib upon you to leave
that place to a place where you can
now if however you can practice the deen
you can establish a religion you can be
a muslim then for you to go to
a place where you can do it even
better even more so it is mustahab it
is what recommended so that is the hukum
based on this my brothers when you're thinking
about hijrah i want you to think about
a number of things number one why am
i doing it i have seen this phenomenon
where brothers will apply for jobs in the
in dubai and in qatar and then say
they are doing hijrah the question is if
you didn't get that job would you go
no you would not go so you're going
for the job and you're going for the
lower tax rate and alhamdulillah it also happens
to be a muslim country or do you
are all familiar with the person that made
hijrah so hijrah is a ibadah that is
an extremely important ibadah but it needs to
be purely for the safeguarding of your deen
and if that is your intention and you
move allah will reward you for it and
sometimes it's an obligation such as when you
cannot practice your religion and sometimes it is
a recommendation when you can't practice your religion
but wherever you're going you can do it
even more so there's more visibility there is
more adhan there is more muslims i hope
that makes sense so that's the right understanding
of hijrah a question this is probably more
related to the younger brothers and sisters the
person is asking i'm hoping to study accounting
and finance however i don't know if it
is permissible to study this as the careers
which i would specialize in would include interest
so first of all i commend you and
may allah reward you for your keen interest
in ensuring and there is a play of
words there when i say your keen interest
may allah protect us from interest in your
in your wishes and hopes that you want
to earn halal may allah make us all
among those that constantly earn halal so accounting
is one of those fields where there is
a risk that the majority or a good
percentage of the jobs that you're going to
end up doing are places where it is
riba based and you want to avoid that
but because that's not the only way and
those are not the only jobs i wouldn't
completely count it out i would say as
you are going and pursuing this career keep
in mind what the opportunities are and it
is your responsibility to avoid the pitfalls of
joining a company that is based that is
doing interest or selling haram commodities or any
of those things so it's your responsibility so
not all accounting is bad we need accountants
and it's a good profession and it can
be a very lucrative profession inshallah but just
you ensure that you don't end up earning
haram through it next question is related to
your lecture i think on friday the seerah
person is asking can you explain the story
behind the prophet's other son and who the
mother was i was confused about that part
of the seerah so i think this person
is talking about um ibrahim the prophet's son
ibrahim and his mother maria or you may
be asking about zaid ibn haritha so they
didn't haritha is not the son of the
prophet he is he the prophet adopted him
and raised him and at some point he
even gave him his name zaid the son
of muhammad until that was prohibited in islam
so in islam you're not allowed to adopt
a child and give it your name but
you are allowed to foster a child and
raise it but it will always keep uh
their father's name so a lot of people
they understand they misunderstand that so taking people
in and raising them and is this is
a very good ibadah but the one thing
we we as muslims don't do is take
away their names and give them our name
rather allah says in the quran him however
this person may also be referring uh to
the prophet's son the prophet had three sons
he had abdullah qasim and ibrahim and his
son ibrahim was the son of the prophet
and maria and maria is not from the
mother of the believers she's not from the
umhat because the prophet never took him as
took her as a wife rather she was
a concubine and uh this is why she
is considered a companion but not among the
mother of the believers and she was the
mother of the prophet's uh son ibrahim who
died uh who died uh very young and
uh the prophet discussed him a lot of
sadness and we will cover that story in
the seerah inshallah um again another question uh
quite a few young brothers here so this
might be interesting to them um an advice
to our younger brothers and sisters going into
marriage in terms of relationship pre-marriage and
in order to or if they wanted to
make sure that they're doing it in the
correct way um so uh pursuing marriage is
a good thing especially when you're at that
age the prophet encouraged marrying young as this
is better for you he also encouraged marrying
when you are able to do so when
you're able to do so encompasses everything financial
and otherwise and once you're at that stage
where you are able to raise a family
keep a family and be a responsible young
uh woman and man then you should get
married now the question is how do you
approach someone and what are the parameters and
what are the rules um this would probably
require a lecture however if i can give
you just a few points number one it
is uh prohibited in islam for men and
women to be conversing openly and being flirtatious
with each other outside of something that is
necessary or a need so what uh in
in regular life if if you need to
approach someone to speak to someone over so
this is fine let's say a sister uh
is lost in the street and there's a
brother there and she's saying can you point
me towards the nearest bus this is normal
kalam this is fine but if the kalam
goes on and on and you're not talking
to each other and it's not about things
that are important or necessary and this is
of course not allowed now what if you
are interested in each other and you want
to get married the best thing to do
is that the moment you establish that both
parties are interested you immediately involve family and
some people say but sheikh involving family is
a serious step and we're not there yet
i say involve them anyway involve them anyway
because this is better for her and better
for you and it ensures that the shaitan
does not benefit from this because the shaitan
is always there trying to push you towards
haram and once you get the family involved
then you can speak to each other you
can get to know each other and again
what do you avoid you avoid again um
speaking in a way that a man and
a woman that are married should speak to
each other and you also avoid being alone
together because the prophet said if a man
and a woman um that are not related
are alone each other there's someone else there
and who's that the shaitan is there so
you avoid that as long as you avoid
that and you involve the family and you
follow the correct means of communicating and the
adab inshallah allah will put baraka in this
avoid these errors and if you're unsure it's
always best to err to the side of
caution inshallah hopefully in the future we can
do an actual program on this because there's
a lot more that needs to be discussed
an advice for those who want to go
down the path of learning the quran and
memorize the quran and ultimately become hufadh if
you want to memorize the quran first alhamdulillah
thank allah that allah put this intention in
your heart it is a beautiful thing to
spend your life learning the book of allah
every moment that you spend learning the quran
is a moment that you are in ibadah
an act of worship and it's time spent
wisely and each one of us should be
on a journey learning the quran it doesn't
necessarily mean that each one of us will
be her father but each one of us
has to try and attempt to memorize some
quran so that if someone asks you do
you know more quran this year or last
year you need to say this year there
needs to be some level of progression but
for the last 20 years if you know
the same amount of quran the last 10
years you know the same amount of quran
you haven't progressed this is a big big
problem and this is something you have to
ask yourself why why is it that i
am not learning new chapters of the quran
have i been using the same chapter of
the quran in my salah for all these
years this is a big problem and also
i'm speaking now to the adults the the
brothers and the sisters the mothers and the
fathers that i was sending the children to
madrasah you must also learn the quran it's
not just your children this is not something
that we graduate from the learning of the
quran is not something the kids do and
then like one time uh samir you don't
you won't believe this one time a young
man you know he said to me i
think he was about 16 17 it's like
hey do you do you go madrasah he
says no no i'm done with the quran
i'm done with the quran it's like what
do you i'm done with the quran no
i finished what do you mean by you
finished i don't go madrasah anymore i'm focused
on college now and education and learning this
is a problem but why where is that
coming from it's coming from madrasah culture meaning
you're young you learn qaeda you go madrasah
your parents take you you go to a
certain age you focus on education and career
the mushaf is gone you're lucky if you
pick it up on friday we don't want
this each one of us has to continue
learning the quran may allah make us among
those who learn the quran those among us
that want to make hifz i'm going to
give you a few advices one get a
teacher we have a hifz program here in
the masjid if you can come and join
it join it you have really good teachers
so get a teacher secondly give yourself a
dedicated time in your week that you memorize
thirdly whatever you memorize pray your salah with
the quran you memorized that's the whole point
of the quran that you pray your salah
especially your qiyam and your night prayer inshallah
if you do this and finally repetition repetition
repetition and effort and you'll get there inshallah
next question the person is asking a bit
of a controversial on this one uh do
we have to follow a madhab do we
have to follow a madhab so for those
of you that don't they are schools of
thoughts that are based on the on the
understanding of great ulama so great ulama in
the past had students they had teachers and
they had students but they were so influential
in their teaching especially in fiqh the halal
and the haram and what breaks your salah
and what breaks your wudu and what doesn't
they were so influential that their classes and
their teachings were recorded and adopted by so
many students generation after generation until they became
schools of thoughts that are studied and adhere
to and you all know these schools of
thought you have the humbly the shafi'i
the hanafi before that and the maliki these
schools of thoughts are extremely important because what
they have done is they have preserved the
understanding of the deen by the ulama that
came before us and they are extremely beneficial
extremely useful and most of the great scholars
of our heritage of our past were adherents
followers or students of these four schools name
me any alim and i can tell you
which school he was from he was a
shafi'i he was a humbly and we
can go i can go i can say
it later and keep keep going these were
all this is how the deen was learned
and studied for thousands of hundreds of years
i should say if not more than a
thousand now this question though said do we
have to what follow a madhab do we
have to the word follow i don't like
the reason i don't like that is because
we follow the professor allahu alayhi wasalam right
so but do we study a madhab do
we adhere to the teachings of a madhab
yes yes we do and there's nothing wrong
with that there's absolutely nothing wrong with that
who's this for i would say this is
more for the student of knowledge this is
more for the student of knowledge your regular
lay person your madhab is your imam your
teacher and the person you ask questions to
each one of us here may have someone
when they need a religious um religious um
answer they go to for guidance if you
if you trust the imam the sheikh the
scholar the mufti that you're going to and
you say sheikh is haram is halal and
they give you the answer that is your
job you don't have to know what the
scholars of the madhab said because that requires
learning of the arabic language that requires being
accessing these books that requires understanding their legal
reasonings it requires so much that you're not
able to however if someone tells me sheikh
i want to learn fiqh i want to
learn uh jurisprudence what do i do i
would say do what the scholars before us
did all of them they would study a
particular madhab until they were advanced enough to
study the others and then there's something called
comparative fiqh where you compare the different evidences
and what they used and sometimes you don't
stick strictly to one madhab because the madhab
is not the deen of allah it is
just a way to understand and to learn
and to get an approximation and this is
what the ulama are doing inshallah and the
majority in the major things they tend to
agree with each other anyway so it's just
the minute things all of the madhab they
agree on most things and the few things
that they don't these are quite advanced your
job as a lay person ask your scholar
ask your masjid ask your imam that is
enough for you can you study a madhab
yes can you be an adherent of a
madhab teachings yes why because those are the
teachings of our ulama and those that came
before and those that came before and those
that came before and allah knows best next
question brother or the sister is asking what
and who or the sunnah so this term
it means the people that are upon the
sunnah and the people that follow the jamaah
so again these two terms what they mean
well the sunnah it means linguistically it means
the way the way of who the way
of the prophet and his righteous companions and
the predecessors so as a muslim you have
to accept that you follow the way of
the companions the way of the prophet and
the companions and who would disagree with that
no one would right you follow the sunnah
of the prophet and you follow the understanding
of the companions and also what they agreed
upon you'd never go against what they differed
over you try your best to follow the
sunnah if you do this then you're someone
that is upon the sunnah and the jamaah
inshallah so that's all it's basically a admittance
submitting yourself to the book of allah the
sunnah of the prophet on the understanding of
the righteous companions and predecessors that's all it
is can we recite quranic duas
in ruku and in sujood can we recite
quranic duas in ruku and in sujood so
what this individual is asking is something that
maybe some people don't know about when you're
in ruku you're bowing down in your salah
or you're in sujood you don't read quran
you're not allowed to read quran in fact
it is prohibited for you to read quran
right you only read quran when you are
standing right allahu akbar you read fatiha you
read the surah but in the other arkan
you do not recite quran now what do
you do the prophet said in a hadith
for example that when you're making sujood and
you have your head on the ground you
are the nearest to allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala so make lots of dua some duas
are in the quran some duas are in
the quran all of these duas right they're
all in the quran but we were just
told you cannot read the quran yet they
are we are also told make dua in
sujood so what about the duas that are
in the quran are they off limits or
not so this is why the person is
asking the question and the answer is if
you're reading them with the intention of dua
it's fine but if you read them with
the intention of quran it's not allowed and
this shows you the power of intention right
so you can read an ayah in the
quran but if your intention is to just
use it as a form of supplication not
a verse in the quran then this is
fine right even uh there are certain times
where you're not allowed to recite the quran
right if you for example upon janaba according
to some of the ulama they say you
are allowed to read the ayahs that have
duas in them with the intention of dua
so to summarize uh for the the questioner
when you're making ruku and sujood if you
want to make a dua and that dua
is in the quran you are allowed to
recite it provided that you have the knee
of what supplication not recitation still with regards
to salah should we read surat al fatiha
behind the imam whether that is a loud
salah or a quiet salah should read the
fatiha so speaking of madhabs i am a
shafi'i right hands up don't shoot and
imam shafi'i's madhab is very strict on
this not just him but others you have
to read every rakah every salah there's no
compromise read but you have to admit there
are other ulama and there's other group there's
other views as well of course and there
is difference of opinion in this matter and
it's all based upon the reading of the
narrations of the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam so
the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam in one narration
mentioned that whoever is the people that are
being led by the imam the people are
being led by the imam that the recitation
of the imam is sufficient for you so
you just listen you just listen and the
recitation of the imam is sufficient for you
that should be done and dusted right case
closed the imamization is enough therefore you don't
have to recite however we also have a
narration and also the prophet that allah said
in the quran when the quran is recited
listen to it or answer you right you
have to be quiet and listen to the
quran so if i need to be quiet
when the quran is being recited and the
recitation of the imam is sufficient for me
my job as someone being led is to
be what to be quiet and listen so
then how do i read fatiha well the
prophet also said there is no salah for
the one who does not read the fatiha
your salah is not valid if you do
not read the fatiha so now we have
to reconcile between these two narrations right the
recitation of the imam is efficient for you
your salah is not acceptable if you don't
read fatiha and the scholars look at these
two narrations and they reconcile them in different
ways some said this the fatiha you have
to read it when when you're praying by
yourself so this hadith is talking about when
you're praying by yourself and that hadith is
talking about when you're being led others said
no this hadith that is about the imam's
recitation being enough for you is any recitation
that is not the fatiha anything after the
fatiha right so how do you combine these
two narrations and and what is an acceptable
way to be able to enact on both
the prophet told us to be quiet when
the imam is reciting he also told us
to always read fatiha so this is the
reason why there's difference of opinion is that
clear by the way and all the scholars
will look at those and they will have
different views my advice read the fatiha when
the imam is quiet so when the imam
says usually he pauses try and read fatiha
in that pause some ulama said read the
fatiha after he finishes each ayah so when
the imam says you say you
say by the time he's finished you're finished
as well and when he starts his recitation
what do you do you listen like allah
told you so that's one way of combining
it where you are not uh we are
acting upon both hadiths now again this is
a very um this fiqhi issue that there's
difference of opinion on if you're used to
and you follow the school of thought or
your teachers told you when the imam is
reciting be quiet and listen that's fine if
however you are used to you always that
is also fine if you come to me
i'll probably tell you to read the fatiha
but next question can we dye our hair
and beard black can we dye our hair
and our beards black i'm curious what do
you guys think yes or no you're saying
yes what are you saying ahmed huh no
so we have a yes and a no
huh they don't have that problem that's because
you guys don't have what your hair is
still black interesting enough my brothers and my
sisters this is a mess that the khilaf
and the difference of opinion goes all the
way back to the salaf right it goes
all the way back to the salaf and
there are two hadiths from prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam where he talked about uh dyeing
the hair and um there's one narration in
muslim where abu bakar and who he brings
his father to the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam and the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
says and abu bakr's father is his hair
is really white of course he's really older
this time this was during the conquest of
mecca and the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
said to him uh why don't you change
uh why don't you dye it and avoid
black and avoid black but this bit this
edition about avoid black some of the scholars
have disputed its authenticity right so this is
the way the problem lies and you have
some of the sahaba that would dye their
hair and you have others that wouldn't and
because this is a khilafi issue um and
some ulama said it's allowed others said it
is disliked others said it's haram i'm not
gonna here say to you um it's either
halal or haram what i'm going to say
to you is that personally i think the
stronger view is that it should be avoided
it should be what avoids for two reasons
one you have evidences although they are disputed
evidence to suggest that you shouldn't do it
secondly because whenever something is in doubt you
are meant to go for the safer option
and the ulama they also have given an
alternative and that alternative is that although you're
not allowed to um use black you can
mix henna with a a a more darker
color like a dark brown type color that
is as close to black as it can
be this is what the ulama would always
advise to use so if you are if
you're if you're i'm sure it's due to
stress if your hair is going white then
an option for you my brothers and my
sisters is that you use that almost like
dark brown color that is not actually black
black so you just avoid that but if
you see someone doing it don't assume that
they're doing something that is prohibited but by
consensus this is not the case at all
and allah knows best next question is organ
and blood donation allowed is organ and blood
donation allowed mashallah the question is very quite
a lot don't they alhamdulillah whoever
saves a life it is as if they
have saved all of mankind there's a great
virtue in saving lives in islam and with
blood donation with blood donation there is the
possibility and the ability to save lives and
it is because of this reason it is
recommended for you that if there are people
that are in need of blood that you
are able to give that donation and whoever
can aid their brother and their sister not
your literal brother sister but any any human
being to be honest then let him do
so so yes you are allowed to donate
blood what about organs however with organs it
is a little bit more complicated and there
are certain parameters and and principles you have
to keep in mind number one the body
your body for it to be donated for
study and charity after you die it is
not allowed this is not allowed so a
person passes away and then they're going to
be carved up and their hearts be going
to give to someone and their lungs are
going to give to someone and their liver
is going to give to someone this is
not allowed in islam right this is not
allowed this your body is an amana right
and allah gave it to you and you
alone and you are meant to be buried
with dignity and your your organs not be
used in that manner however if there are
organs that you can live without and also
there is a high likelihood that you can
save someone else who can tell you what
organ i'm talking about for example kidney kidney
transplants so for example kidneys it is possible
that some people they can survive with one
kidney so if you can then aid someone
help someone save someone by donating your kidney
this allow and there are certain conditions they
put in as well one is that doctors
have to sign off that the likelihood of
you surviving and being okay must be very
very high because you're not allowed to endanger
yourself for someone else's sake and another one
is that you're not allowed to profit from
it so someone is never no matter how
poor you are you're not allowed to sell
your kidney for profit or for money this
would not be allowed as well so a
moment that's the answer uh but there is
of course a lot more detail to be
discussed and this is not the place to
kind of expand upon that and allah knows
best sheikh what would you advise um someone
who say for example a revert who has
non-muslim parents uh or a muslim young
brother or sister who have parents who don't
necessarily practice so one of them is a
so it's a revert who lives with or
has parents that aren't muslim and you give
the other example which is someone that is
practicing they are muslim but their parents who
are also muslim are not really practicing by
either way uh your responsibility towards them that
you advise them you give them nasiha you
you advise them you give them nasiha do
you need to make a uh announcement unfortunately
yes uh again a very common issue long
stand uh there's a car blocking the morrisons
loading bay uh it looks like a seat
uh registration number is kt21eym kt21eym
this car belongs to anybody please remove your
car immediately so
the revert brother who has non-muslim parents
or a brother or muslim practicing muslim yes
um how do you deal with your parents
if they are having shortcomings as it relates
to their practice or if they're not even
muslim it happens sometimes that someone enters into
islam and their parents don't um first your
relationship with your parents have to be good
companionship you have to be good and dutiful
to them regardless and this is what we
find in the quran where there was a
companion this companion was sad ibn abu waqas
sad was among the 10 that were promised
jannah and he was uh from the same
tribe and related to the prophet's mother sad
and the prophet used to call him his
uncle his uncle his maternal uncle sad when
he became muslim his mother stayed a idol
worshiper and she said i will starve myself
until you become a idol worshiping non-believer
i will i will not eat and she
stopped eating and he couldn't watch this and
she was slowly withering away but he would
did not want to give up his faith
and then allah subhanahu wa ta'ala revealed
ayats related to this and in these ayats
allah mentioned that if your parents force you
to do to commit shirk uh then allah
says do not obey them and here's the
shahid but show them good companionship in this
dunya this is for the parents that are
forcing me to do haram that are pushing
you away from the deen allah is saying
to us regardless and show them good companionship
in this world how about the ones that
are not even doing that they may be
wrong they may not be believers they may
not be upon the deen the way you
would want them to be right but show
them love show them kindness show them beautifulness
be there for them that's number one number
two call them to islam if they're not
muslim in the best way possible right and
often the changes that they see in you
is enough to change them and i have
seen this i have seen and i have
met people that they had children they had
sons who then accepted islam and then the
in fact this is a one of the
most recurring reasons why people revert to islam
they say because i saw my family my
children become muslim and then they changed their
character changed the way they spoke changed their
priorities changed their kindness increased and when i
saw how great of a people they've become
i wanted that too so wallah if you
can influence people just with our manners so
what do you do if you're a revert
or a convert and your parents are not
first of all lots and lots of dua
allah has the one that guided you and
allah can guide them make lots of dua
secondly be extremely kind compassionate and beautiful to
them thirdly call them in the best way
possible and sometimes that is true just your
manners and if you can have conversations with
them then try don't give up hope and
continue trying and remember that upon you is
to spread the message and there's a lot
of guides and the same kind of principles
apply if they are for example not practicing
or they are upon some type of mistake
or shortcomings or misguidance the same rule will
apply there as well make dua for them
be dutiful to them and kind to them
and call them to that which is better
in the best way possible next question is
related to the parents here how do you
or how can i raise my child in
an islamic way how can i raise my
child in an islamic way by fulfilling the
obligations allah has put on you as relates
to your children when you are a parent
there are certain obligations you have your children
are in a manner a trust allah provide
you with children allah trusted you with these
children not just their sustenance not just their
education but also their deen in fact most
importantly their deen so what you need to
do my brothers and sisters as mothers and
fathers is understand that this is an obligation
upon you and try and teach them as
much about allah and his messenger as possible
teach them to love allah teach them to
obey the laws of allah teach them to
love the deen lead by example lead by
example because children tend to do as they
see not as they're told i know this
i know this because ahmed never listens to
me sorry my son is sitting here no
but honestly honestly no you're good um but
lead by example mothers and fathers lead by
example not only should you lead by example
but you should make lots of dua for
them the dua of the parent has barakah
the dua of the mother and the father
has barakah make dua for them lots of
dua for them for allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala to bless them and to guide them
in dunya and akhira um and and then
ensure that you're putting effort in their deen
in their deen wallahi it doesn't matter if
they become doctors or if they become engineers
or lawyers or if they work in the
local aldi or supermarket it doesn't matter what
i mean by that is what matters more
i should say it matters but what matters
more is that they pray five times a
day they give their zakat they give sadaqah
they attend jumu'ah they are wearing the
hijab they love the quran and they understand
it they are concerned for their deen and
they are concerned for the ummah they are
making dua for you and they are remembering
you and your dua even after you pass
away this is better for those of us
that have parents and grandparents have passed away
what they would love the most for us
today is to be people that are making
dua for them they are making umrah on
their behalf for them that are digging wells
for them in charity now i ask you
this question what kind of child does that
the kind of child that has been taught
the importance of that to begin with right
this is why it's important that we instill
in them the love of the deen and
part of why we have children and this
should be something that's on the mind of
parents and those that will become parents part
of why we have children is to continue
the legacy of tawhid to continue the legacy
of tawhid that my children are saying none
has the right to be worshiped except allah
and that when they have children that continues
and they say and that goes on and
on and on and you're part of that
chain that is full of barakah people that
have understood why allah created them allah did
not create us to amass a lot of
wealth a lot of money allah created us
to worship him and why we have children
the intention should be to increase those who
worship allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to get
closer to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala may
allah grant us children that are righteous may
allah subhanahu wa ta'ala forgive our short
comments regarding our children may allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala allow us to have a legacy
that continues on for generations after all upon
khair and upon tawhid ameen next question sheikh
uh what are some of the recommended practices
with relates to a newborn baby so if
you have a newborn baby like i said
with the previous answer it isn't a man
is a trust and you start uh once
the child is born um that you you
start with the adhan the adhan that you
do on the right ear and the left
ear and this hadith is in tirmidhi and
by the way there's a very good book
that a great scholar wrote that is all
about the young child the infant and the
readings related to that and he mentions a
lot of detail among them is picking a
good name for them picking a good name
for them right name them after prophets name
them after the names allah loves like abdullah
and abdul rahman name them after things that
will attract them to the deen and don't
just pick a name that sounds nice pick
a name that has good meaning the prophet
used to emphasize this a lot in fact
sometimes a man would come to the prophet
or a woman would come to the prophet
an adult and he would say what's your
name and they'll say their name and he
said he would change their name because their
name did not have a good meaning so
pick a good name for your child a
name that you can later on explain to
them why you call them that name uh
i named you after prophets such and such
i named you after this righteous woman and
named you after this which means that right
you do the adhan you give them a
good name you circumcise them like it's the
sunnah you uh shave you do the aqeeqah
which you guys know what aqeeqah is when
you slaughter on their behalf and you follow
all the sunnahs that the prophet did one
of the prophets used to do is tahniq
tahniq is to take something sweet and put
it on the tongue and the mouth of
the child as it is born and there
are other things but the main thing is
just with everything else that we do and
anything else that we do when you're praying
you ask sheikh how do i pray according
to the sunnah when you are getting married
how they get married according to the sunnah
and similarly when i have a child what
do i do according to the sunnah inshallah
and then you raise them in the best
way possible and you fear allah regarding them
as well as they already trust that allah
has given you Jazakallah khair.
Next question is related to or relevant to
our sisters what's the ruling on a sister
or a woman reading the quran during her
cycle?
Reading the quran during your cycle is allowed
but there's some khalaf in this but the
stronger view is that you can read the
quran when you're on your cycle but you
should avoid touching the mushaf you should avoid
touching the mushaf and because the mushaf can
only be touched by those that are are
in a state of purity and for the
benefit of everyone here don't touch the mushaf
when you don't have wudu don't touch the
mushaf when you are upon in a state
of janaba don't touch the mushaf when you
are on your monthly cycle my sisters avoid
it as for reciting by memory or reciting
the quran if you the sitter that is
on a monthly cycle she is allowed to
do this especially if the intention is to
ensure that she remembers and she memorize that
which she may forget otherwise so the recitation
is fine but the the touching of mushaf
is that which should be avoided some people
ask what about tablets and phones tablets and
phones um they should be fine inshallah it
is the actual mushaf that you should avoid
touching and allah knows best just on that
how about if there's some kind of barrier
like a glove or a piece of cloth
so um the hanabalah they allow this some
of the ulama they say that if the
sister is wearing gloves then technically she's not
touching the mushaf this should be fine other
ulama are a bit strict on this they
say even with the glove we should avoid
it and as i given you this example
a few times already when you are in
doubt it's best to stay away from it
and not not touch it at all even
with gloves try and avoid it and utilize
maybe these apps and these phones instead and
allah knows best how do we go about
seeking knowledge especially if a person has certain
commitments not much time work family commitments etc
etc um seeking knowledge is an
obligation upon every muslim so every believer every
muslim male or female young or old are
obligated to learn their religion and their faith
how much do i have to learn that
depends on where you are what you need
to know what you know or don't know
but there are certain bases everyone needs to
know rulings pertaining to wudu and purification rulings
related to salah rulings related to raising a
family rulings related to all the things we've
talked about who allah is uh what it
means to single out allah in worship what
tawhid is who our prophet is loving our
prophet how do we love our prophet there
are certain things about adina everyone needs to
learn and you have to make time for
obligations they're non-negotiable you have to make
time for the wajibat do you make time
for your salah yes do you make time
for uh raising your your your family and
earning for them yes then also make time
for learning your religion so i would say
the basics the must-haves the foundational knowledge
that every muslim should know then make time
for it in your day or in your
week even if it's one hour a week
is better than nothing one hour a week
that you listen and there is so many
resources available wallahi i believe affairs sometimes they
become against us the amount of resources that
are available uh you have the internet you
have apps you have uh mosques you have
online if you can't make it you can
attend the masjid and you can in fact
here in our masjid we've launched a program
called which is meant for that purpose to
build your foundations and give you that stepping
stone where you learn the basics of tahara
and and salah and hajj and fasting you
learn the basics of aqeedah everything that muslims
should believe in you learn the basics of
sirah the story of our beloved prophet muhammad
every monday every wednesday and every friday this
is a program that you can attend if
you can't attend you can follow online it
will take a few hours of your week
and you will slowly see yourself building up
learning the adhkar of the salah and what
they mean and that will have a huge
impact on your khushu and your salah there's
so many things to learn there is definitely
time if we have the intention make the
intention be serious understand it's an obligation make
dua for allah to increase you in beneficial
knowledge and inshallah you will get somewhere another
question related to our sisters can a woman
on irregular bleeding perform umrah so what is
irregular bleeding um our sisters they go through
different types of monthly cycles or different type
of cycles i should say and this is
something that allah has decreed upon them that
allah subhanahu wa ta'ala preserve our mothers
our sisters our wives our woman folk generally
um so you have your monthly cycle which
is called haid and during the cycle you
don't pray and you don't fast you make
up the fast but you don't make up
the prayer like the prophet taught us and
doing this you also can't do umrah actually
you can attend intend umrah but you can't
make the tawaf so um as for irregular
this is called istihadah istihadah and the difference
there are differences the scholars state between istihadah
which is irregular bleeding which is that that
which happens outside of your cycle so outside
of your regular cycle if you're experiencing a
flow then this would be considered istihadah or
irregular uh bleeding um also and this is
a very important point uh my sisters the
longest time you can go without praying the
longest time that you can go that your
height last is 15 days meaning by the
16th day it will be considered istihadah you
shower and even if there's still a flow
going on by day 16 you make wudu
and you pray and you make wudu for
every salah but you pray so when it
comes to umrah the person that is in
istihadah or irregular bleeding they are allowed to
do umrah like any other person all they
have to do is they make ghusl beforehand
and they go continue doing the umrah like
they normally would and they make wudu for
every salah that they are praying but other
than that they can perform the whole uh
of the umrah and there's no harm well
i was going to say slightly different it's
very different question now um the person is
asking with regards to a hadith where the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam talks about different
characteristics of the hypocrite and the person is
saying that they have found within themselves that
they have these type of characteristics what would
you advise such a person in terms of
repenting and you know stay in a way
or trying to rectify themselves so um what
tends to happen sometimes is people um you
know i've noticed uh samir that majority of
the brothers are on this side right and
there's no one here so uh i feel
sometimes that i have to i have to
look this way so if i'm not if
i tend to i try to look at
everyone so if i'm not looking at you
it's because you guys are older on this
side so i do apologize um i also
don't see well from this eye where was
i um it was uh the hypocrites so
my brothers and my sisters um hypocrisy in
islam is of two types there's two types
you have uh what's called the nifaq and
nifaq and it's really important that we understand
the difference between these two nifaq and nifaq
what does that mean hypocrisy that is to
do with your actions and hypocrisy that is
to do with your belief the one that
takes you out of the fold of islam
is what does that mean it means someone
that is pretending to be muslim but in
actuality in here they are not muslim is
that clear and if you read the quran
if the quran talks about hypocrites allah is
talking about people that pretended to be muslims
but in actuality were what disbelievers this is
nifaq this is the one whom allah said
about that they they are in the bottom
of the hellfire who are they the ones
that are actually non-believers but they pretend
and why do they pretend there will be
different reasons of why they're pretending sometimes they
were spies sometimes they wanted the benefits of
being a muslim but they didn't really believe
in it and allah spoke about them in
surat al-tawbah allah speaks about them in
surat al-manafiqun etc then you have what
is known as nifaq amali which is being
a hypocrite as it relates to your actions
and this is where you find many narrations
where the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said
the signs of the hypocrite are four or
the signs of the hypocrite are three and
the prophet mentioned when they speak they lie
whether to win a khan and when they're
entrusted they break their trust right and these
these signs that you're reading if you are
someone that lies or someone that breaks trusts
or breaks promises or someone that does any
of these things then you are acting like
a munafiq and you have the actions of
a munafiq but you're not the munafiq that
goes out of the fold of islam is
that clear so sometimes what happens is someone
will read those narrations i will say subhanallah
i do break quite a lot of promises
and i do lie sometimes maybe i am
the hypocrite in the quran and i'm going
to the fire and then they get extremely
concerned the the munafiq that is out of
the fold of islam is the one that
does not believe in allah and his messenger
but what does allah say about them they
are lying they don't believe in allah they
don't believe in the prophet so if you
understand there's two types of nifaq two types
of hypocrisy in islam the one that's related
to belief which takes out of the fold
of islam and the one that's related to
actions which is horrible and you shouldn't be
part of you shouldn't do and you should
repent to allah because you shouldn't be lying
you shouldn't be breaking trust and you shouldn't
be someone that is abandoning the aman and
the trust that have been they have been
given but if you are then this means
that you are behaving like a munafiq not
that you are the munafiq when it comes
to your belief in your and allah knows
best what would you advise a person who
is struggling to ensure that they pray the
salah on time make it your priority perhaps
at this very moment it is not your
highest priority but and this requires introspection and
thinking and pondering and asking yourself why am
i not prioritizing it and utilize any tools
necessary but before we get to the tools
like alarms and reminders and people i really
think that it comes back to how important
do you feel the salah is and do
you understand the weight that the salah carries
if you understand those two things then you
will not be delaying your salah and you
will be praying on time also for some
people they don't understand what praying on time
means and this is also something that requires
some level of rectification and that there is
the salah has meaning there's an end time
the beginning time and end time and any
time in between here that you pray you've
prayed on time alhamdulillah and allah made it
easy on us in that regard so um
fear allah fear allah regarding your salah understand
is the first thing allah is going to
ask you about and after that make lots
of dua for allah to guide you to
give you the strength to pray on time
as this is one of the most beloved
actions to allah and then prioritize it over
everything else that you're doing and utilize any
tools that can help you tools like alarms
like family members like um sleeping early and
um and if it's maybe work and your
work does not allow you see if you
can ask for a prayer room and sometimes
we just need that courage you need to
muster that courage and ask them and insist
like having a prayer mat in your car
and then when you're driving anywhere you can
park and you can get your prayer mat
out like safeguarding your wudu all of these
little things they help because sometimes someone is
driving oh i don't have a prayer mat
i don't know what to do old ensure
you have as little as excuses as possible
and close the windows of shaitan wherever they
may be keep your wudu have a prayer
mat with you uh try and go to
the masjid for several salat from as many
salats as you can ensure you got somewhere
to pray at work put an alarm on
for the salats when you're sleeping ensure you're
sleeping early all of these inshallah will aid
you and make lots of dua the next
person is asking what would you advise someone
who is suffering from waswas a lot of
waswas and it's having a negative impact in
their own life may allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala heal you from this waswas may allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala cure you from it
may allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make it
easier on you to live with it uh
until allah completely removes you from it wallahi
waswas is something that impacts quite a few
of our community members and our and our
um brothers and sisters and it can lead
to very dangerous paths it comes from shaitan
and usually the shaitan will harm this or
attack the individual and cause him to have
waswas because they are on a path of
righteousness he tends to attack the people that
through their wudu or their salah or their
family or cleanliness meaning this is an individual
that is trying to be as clean as
possible trying to pray as good as possible
trying to make their wudu as perfect as
possible and because they're like this the shaitan
is now making it difficult on them this
uh the best advice i can give you
and it's most likely advice that you've heard
before but in any case i'm gonna repeat
it the best way to get over the
waswas is that you do not allow to
dictate your life no matter what no matter
what meaning you're making wudu and as you're
making wudu you're saying did i wash my
hands three times or they're not and then
you have the urge just to be safe
let me do it one more time don't
do that do not do that when you
have waswas you have to do the opposite
do not give in did i have the
right intention let me say my takbir to
the haram again don't understand that that urge
is the problem and you need to fight
that urge you need to fight that urge
because you see someone they will say allahu
akbar several times because in their mind the
moment you give in the shaitan will take
a hold of you and then you will
it will take you places that are wallahi
very very bad that number one number two
i also advise you guys to try and
learn the rulings of the deen because i
had sometimes a person came to me they
did not know that there was an option
for you to make wudu just once they
didn't know that they thought they had to
do it three times so and this was
causing them so sometimes understanding the deen or
someone did not understand how to clean what
does it mean to get rid of najasa
so they would spend time cleaning the whole
toilet and doing things that they didn't need
to do because they thought everything every little
wet spot in the toilet was najasa so
then it causes more problems so what helps
two things one never give in the urge
and two actually try and understand these issues
from an islamic perspective finally lots of dua
lots of dua allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is the one that can do rafa and
remove this from you may allah remove it
from you i have seen cases that are
very extreme and i have also seen people
that have gotten better may allah remove all
the waspas from our hearts and our minds
and allah knows best um i think we
will end with this question inshallah it's a
two-part question what would you advise a
sister who has a husband who has an
addiction to something that is not allowed be
it alcohol drugs and what have you not
so what would you your advice be to
the to the wife and also the second
part of the question is what would your
advice be to the person himself who has
this addiction may allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
uh remove this calamity from this home may
allah guide this husband and make it easy
on him to get back to allah to
repent from this sin and to never go
back again the fact that this sister is
reaching out and saying that she has a
husband that is struggling with a particular addiction
it shows number one that you care for
your dean and you care for your husband
that is a sign of righteousness may allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala reward you for that
um you i would advise you to make
lots of dua and do not underestimate the
power of dua the last day of the
night make dua for your husband that allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala removes this from him
number one number two is that you i
have no doubt in my mind that you
have been advising him but if you haven't
advise him advise him and remind him of
allah subhanahu wa ta'ala if perhaps you
feel like it's falling on deaf ears utilize
other people that may he may listen to
maybe his family members maybe his brothers maybe
his uncles maybe his parents and maybe you
can all try and do an intervention intervention
for him and support him if he's listening
and he's willing to listen um try and
exhaust a lot of means before you start
thinking of other solutions because in every day
he is your husband he may potentially be
the father of your children so you deserve
that right and for you to have that
summer upon him if this is a case
that is causing you great harm and you've
tried everything and you feel the need that
staying in this is gonna cause you more
harm than benefit then i would advise you
to go to your local masjid and to
your local imams and explain to them your
situation and then they can advise you accordingly
inshallah and what to do next as for
the brother if he's listening my brother fear
allah subhanahu wa ta'ala with these type
of sins you're not only harming yourself but
you're harming your family as well potentially if
you have children them as well and addictions
are hard to overcome but it's not impossible
it requires inner strength and your love for
allah your love for the deen and your
need for salvation has to be a stronger
urge than the urge that is calling you
towards the sin it is also important that
you once you understand that you need help
that you need to overcome this that you
utilize every means possible for you to overcome
this and sometimes if you need to get
professional help you should do so as well
and involve it is it is better for
you to seek help from others to aid
you than to suffer in silence and struggle
in silence sometimes you need an outside perspective
to get you out of that which you
are struggling with and addicted to and finally
make lots of dua for yourself clearly your
missus your wife is having lots of patience
with you and i advise you to fear
allah subhanahu wa ta'ala regarding her and
most importantly you don't want to live and
then die upon a sin that you've been
doing over and over over again repent to
allah accept your repentance may allah make it
easy for you to overcome this may allah
bring your hearts close to each other and
may allah forgive all of our sins ameen
we ask allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to
reward shaykh mustafa and place this these these
words in his scale of good deeds on
the day of judgment and to you brothers
and sisters as well for for attending and
we will remind you or i want to
remind you that we will have such a
session again inshallah so watch the space as
they say uh questions we'll be able you're
able to put your questions through inshallah through
a link or a form uh and so
please utilize that inshallah so with that we
will conclude because the shaykh is waiting to
make adhan assalamu alaykum
