we are focusing on Palestine, the faith and
struggle, and inshallah on that Saturday we have
Imam Ayman Tahir, we have Brother Faisal Kuti,

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Allahu
Akbar Ash hadu an la ilaha illa Allah
Ash hadu an la ilaha illa Allah Ash
hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah Ash hadu
anna Muhammadan Rasulullah Allahu
Akbar, Allahu Akbar Has
a du'a that many of you know.
And this du'a is a du'a
that is pronounced by Musa alayhi salam himself.
After he helped two women taking their animals,
their sheeps and goats to a pond.
Allowing them to drink to their fill.
The animals calmed down.
And he made a du'a to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala that sounds like this.
After he helped these two women he went
back under a tree under the shade.
And he made a du'a to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And he said, oh my master.
I am always in the state of spiritual
poverty and in need for any opportunity to
do khair.
In other words, Musa alayhi salam will never
be full.
The believer is never full in doing acts
of righteousness and good deeds.
You and I are always thirsty and spiritually
hungry to do more for the sake of
Allah.
The ulama differ on this du'a.
Some have said that the word faqir in
this du'a which literally means poor is
understood in the literal sense.
In other words, Musa alayhi salam is telling
Allah, oh Allah, I want every opportunity to
do khair for you because I am literally
poor.
Remember prior to this moment, Musa alayhi salam
was in Egypt and things happened where he
had to leave.
And now he is in a city called
the city of Median where Firaun doesn't have
any control or anything with respect to this
city.
So he literally by leaving Egypt to come
here has no food, no money, no job,
nothing.
So he's literally asking Allah Subh'anaHu Wa
Ta-A'la for the opportunity to do
khair and in return InshaAllahu ta'ala Allah
Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la will provide
something for him, the iznillah.
Now here is the heart of today's reminder.
This du'a led to three things that
were life changing for Musa alayhi salam.
Life changing.
The next verse immediately gets into the first
miraculous change in the life of Musa alayhi
salam.
After he says this du'a it is
said One of these two women came back
to Musa alayhi salam.
The story goes as they eventually went back
to their father.
They said dad look our animals have been
taken care of.
We met somebody, a man who was strong,
he was trustworthy and he helped us out.
The father asked to go and find this
man again and bring him to me.
So one of these women come up to
Musa alayhi salam.
But listen to the ayah.
Here is the first lesson.
Allah highlights that this woman came to Musa
alayhi salam and describes a quality in her.
Istihya which comes from the word haya.
Now you have to ask yourself why would
Allah tell us that she is a woman
of haya?
What does that have to do with what's
happening?
The ulama they explain based on one hadith
of our prophet alayhi salam.
And a hadith that many of us know.
المرء على دين خليلي A person is always
going to be on the path of their
friend, their close friends.
You'll adopt those same habits and lifestyle and
so on.
The ulama they say Musa alayhi salam is
an honest, just, fair, respectful man.
And because of who he is the scholars
say when you strive to do the right
thing and to be amongst the right people,
good companionship, people who are practicing, who are
striving to do the right thing بإذن الله
تعالى with your sincerity Allah will bless you
to be around those kinds of people for
the rest of your life.
Because of your faith Allah will gift you
with the blessed and beloved companionship.
So this could be one reason why Allah
highlights istihya from her.
To show all of us that this is
the kind of company that Musa alayhi salam
is surrounded with.
People with akhlaq and the highest level of
akhlaq is al-hayya, modesty.
But the scholars say something else.
They say you can also turn the table.
And this is also a protection for her.
So that nobody develops any sort of assumption
that okay why did she come alone and
she's talking to Musa alayhi salam they're not
related, what's going on here.
To eliminate all, any of those thoughts, any
of those possibilities this is a woman of
respect.
So she says to Musa alayhi salam My
father is calling you لِيَجَزِيَكَ أَجْرَ مَا سَقَيْتَ
لَنَا So that he can give you something
and reward you for what you've done for
us, how you helped us.
So Musa alayhi salam responds فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُ وَقَصَّ
عَلَيْهِ الْقَصَصَ قَالَ لَا تَخَفْ نَجَوْتَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ
الظَّالِيمِينَ He came and he sat with the
father.
Who is this father?
Some of the scholars say this father comes
from the same family of the Prophet Shuayb
alayhi salam.
And so he comes from a lineage of
a prophet.
So this was a man who is also
respected.
He's a man of dignity and honor.
Musa alayhi salam sits with this man, this
father.
And the ayah says وَقَصَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقَصَصَ He
not only shared with him where he came
from, what happened and why he's in the
situation he's in.
But he sat down and told the father
the entire story in detail.
He didn't leave anything out.
How do we know that?
We know this because of the word قَصَّ
or قِصَّةٌ قِصَّةٌ means a story that you
share or you read where no details are
left out.
Every miniscule detail is in that story.
So it's safe to assume that Musa alayhi
salam for the first time has somebody that
he can sit with and unload his struggles
and his problems to.
This is the first gift of the three.
Allah blessed him.
Blessed him with the opportunity to take care
of his mental health.
Think about it.
He leaves Egypt alone.
Lost.
Scared.
Confused.
No money.
No siblings.
No friends.
No job.
No stability.
Nothing.
When somebody is in a similar situation like
Musa alayhi salam you would feel like you're
the only person living on earth.
That's how lonely, emotionally and mentally life becomes.
You try to eat, taste food.
Nothing has taste.
You can't consume anything.
The mental stress that you're coping with day
after day is overwhelming.
The scholars say the first path, the first
method to use to start to recover from
this is after you speak with Allah and
seek Allah's help you try your best to
find somebody trustworthy that you can simply talk
to.
All of us sitting here have our own
personal story that deals with mental health in
its own way.
Every one of us do.
And the thing that helps us to heal
is to know there's somebody in your life
you can turn to and you can talk
to.
The ayah doesn't even say anything what the
father tells Musa alayhi salam.
So it also shows that the father is
literally sitting there, who knows maybe for a
few hours listening to Musa alayhi salam unload.
And only one sentence he responds with.
He says, don't be afraid Musa.
It's okay.
You're safe now.
You don't have to worry about those people
back in Egypt and the wrong that they
did.
Now something interesting happens here.
Musa alayhi salam the father ordered for some
food.
So Imam al-Baghawi in his tafsir narrates
the story that the father ordered for some
food to be brought to Musa alayhi salam.
When Musa alayhi salam saw the food in
front of him, you know what he said?
He said, a'udhu billah.
Why?
Listen to it.
Listen to the mindset, the focus of Musa
alayhi salam.
The father, when he heard a'udhu billah,
he said What's wrong?
I thought you were hungry.
You told me you haven't eaten anything.
I thought you would want this.
He says, I do.
But I don't want to give you the
impression that I helped your daughters only to
get this prize of food in return.
Because I did what I did to help
your daughters for the akhira, not for the
dunya.
The mindset, subhanallah.
His focus with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
So when the father heard that and gave
him reassurance, he said, listen, it's okay.
I want you to eat.
That's when Musa alayhi salam began and he
started to eat.
The first lesson you have, here's number two,
the second blessing.
One of the daughters of the father came
and said, قَالَتْ يَا أَبَتِ اسْتَأْجِرُهُ إِنَّ خَيْرَ
مَنْ اسْتَأْجَرْتَ الْقَوِيُّ الْأَمِينُ Dad, why don't you
hire him?
Because we see how well, how good he
was working.
He's strong, he's trustworthy.
Because the ayah ends up, إِنَّ خَيْرَ مَنْ
اسْتَأْجَرْتَ الْقَوِيُّ الْأَمِينُ The best of the people
you hire are those that are strong and
trustworthy.
You know, if you look at professionals, presidents,
CEOs of large corporations and companies.
When they talk about what they look for
in that perfect, the right employee, somebody could
have a decorated resume and all the experience
and knowledge in the world.
But if you cannot trust them, they cannot
work for you.
If you cannot feel that I trust you
with my business or my company, then it
doesn't matter what's on your resume.
So, the ayah, the daughter highlights this man
is strong and he's trustworthy.
Unfortunately, in this day and age, we have
people, even in masajid and Islamic institutes and
schools all across the world.
There are some, you can't trust them.
You can't trust them with certain responsibilities that
help facilitate and run the organization, whether it
be Islamic or not.
But they appear to be somebody you can
trust.
This ayah reminds us that these two qualities
are qualities that are obvious and they stand
you can't fool somebody.
You either are somebody that is trustworthy or
it will show that you are not.
May Allah give us strength.
Allahumma ameen.
So number two, now Musa alayhis salaam has
a job.
Allah blessed him with a job.
Remember, what dua did he make?
He made a dua thanking Allah and proclaiming
to Allah I am always in need for
the opportunity to do khair.
Side point, scholars tell us what we learn
from this story is that the believer is
always opportunistic, looking for opportunities to do khair.
You don't just wait for someone to ask
you, but you're also looking for opportunities to
do things for the sake of Allah.
And this dua changed the life of Musa
alayhis salaam.
So if you want this dua to work
for you as well, you adapt the same
approach and attitude, but some of the ulama
add one more thing.
When you do a righteous deed, especially with
the intention of receiving the blessings and reward
that we see Musa alayhis salaam receives, try
to find opportunities to do righteousness that involve
helping others.
Because that's what Musa alayhis salaam did.
Try to prioritize that to something you can
do that makes someone else's life just a
little bit easier.
And having said that, I'm going to shift
to a completely different subject and remind you
and me.
Monday, bi-idhni Allahi ta'ala is the
official day, the national day of truth and
reconciliation.
It's a day where all of us who
live in this country take some time to
reflect and think about the founders of this
land, the people from the indigenous community, and
to remember and find your place where you
can participate and help to alleviate some of
the struggle and pain and abuse that the
indigenous community go through each and every day.
I had an opportunity to meet a large
community of the indigenous people in Manitoba.
All of them, all of them, literally dozens
upon dozens, every one of them was struggling
in their own way to do the basic
things, buy groceries, go see a doctor, they're
looking for employment, most of the employment that
they try and search for, they're refused, they're
constantly discriminated against, the access to healthcare and
resources and financial status, all of that's been
abused and against their community.
You know, it almost sounds like something very
familiar and similar to what we go through
as well to a certain extent.
We can relate to a lot of their
struggles.
So when you look and you think about
this ayah, this is a great opportunity to
really bring this dua to life inshallah.
May Allah facilitate and make it easy for
all of us.
Allahumma ameen.
So number two, Musa alayhis salaam has a
job.
Here's number three.
All of the brothers and sisters here that
are not married and inshallah you're looking for
marriage.
And I get this question, I'm sure all
of us here, we hear this question all
the time.
What is that dua that I can make
that Allah azawajal will bless me with a
spouse?
Well the good news is this is one
of those duas.
Because the third blessing that Musa alayhis salaam
receives is the father then looks at him
and says look, I want to marry I
want you to marry one of my daughters.
I have two daughters here.
I want you to marry one of them.
Once she is content, you are content, I
want you to get married.
And Musa alayhis salaam agrees.
And he gets married to one of his
daughters.
One of the father's daughters.
And they have an agreement.
The father says look, the thing that I
want from you in return.
Now mahr was not legislated then, but I
want you to think about it in that
way.
Think of it as like a mahr.
He says to Musa alayhis salaam, in return
I want you to work for me for
at least eight years.
And if you add two extra years, that's
from you.
That's from your khair.
That will be voluntary on you.
So Musa alayhis salaam agrees.
So now, Allah azawajal blesses him with a
wife and a family.
Three things.
His mental health was cared for.
Then Allah blessed him with stability.
And now he has support.
After these three things, something miraculous and remarkable
happens to Musa alayhis salaam.
And that is the point of why we
choose this subject today.
And that is what I will share with
you inshaAllah ta'ala in the conclusion and
the second part of the khutbah.
My brothers and sisters, we ask Allah azawajal
to keep us steadfast.
We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to
allow our hearts and our attitude and our
sincerity that whenever we see an opportunity to
do khair, that we take full advantage of
it to the best of our ability.
May Allah azawajal accept our efforts.
Allahumma ameen.
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
Two verses after Allah azawajal calls Musa alayhis
salaam to him.
The moment happened.
It finally happened.
Now it's official.
He will now take the title of a
prophet of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Did you see what happened?
Allah facilitated and took care of his personal
life.
Made sure that his home, made sure that
himself, made sure that his life had some
stability to it.
And because that happened, now the connection with
Allah becomes a little bit easier.
There's stability in that connection and inshallah that
connection is permanent.
One of the most common questions we hear
today is I'm trying to hold on.
I'm trying to hold on.
And it's difficult.
When I see the images, when I see
the videos, when I talk to people, so
much problems, pain, hate upon hate.
It's getting worse.
What should I do?
Follow the pattern and remember the dua of
Musa alayhis salaam.
And as a result, Allah facilitated and opened
the doors that whatever struggles and problems you're
having, bi-idhnillahi ta'ala, with this dua
and many others Allah azza wa jal will
give you and bless you with what you
need to get through those tough times.
I pray that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
accept all of us from amongst the righteous.
And we pray that Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala bless our time, bless our hearts, and
bless our efforts.
Allahumma ameen.
These are the words that I leave you
with, brothers and sisters.
We send peace and blessings to our Rasul.
