Bismillah walhamdulillahi wassalatu wassalamu ala rasulullahi wa ala
alihi wa sahbihi ajma'in.
This morning as I was slicing through the
calm waters just after Salatul Fajr, behind me
with one of the fastest jet skis I've
ever had, I was pondering over something unique
and amazing.
Look at the favor of Allah upon us.
I come from a landlocked country, so you
have to excuse me when I become a
child once I see a good jet ski.
Landlocked, we're not used to it.
But alhamdulillah, the water was calm, amazing.
And I'm thinking many of us have so
much negative going on in our lives, but
we forget that in order to come out
of that negativity, in order to be uplifted
from the rut, in order to be empowered
from that which is so so lowering, we
need to ponder over the greatness of Allah
by appreciating His creation.
In the creation of the heavens and the
earth and the alternation of the night and
the day there are signs for those of
understanding who remember Allah while standing or sitting
or lying on their sides
Amazing verse, absolutely
superb, so beautiful.
Allah tells you that the people who have
sound intellect, if you are sharp, if you
consider yourself intelligent, then Allah's addressing you with
this verse.
If you consider yourself a person with a
top brain, you would be someone who ponders
over the greatness of Allah by pondering over
His creation, what He made.
I see a beautiful, I call it a
ship, they call it a ferry, they might
call it a yacht, whatever it is.
But I know it's not just a simple
boat.
We sat in a boat the other day,
but this here, look at it, mashallah tabarakallah,
look around you.
Why am I saying this?
By thinking and pondering over the favor of
Allah, you realize He has created everything in
due measure.
Absolutely astounding.
Day and night is such that you and
I know the exact moment the sun is
going to go down.
And we will know the moment the sun
went down in 1930 on a certain date.
And we will know the sunrise and when
the zenith happens.
And we will know exactly what degree, what
angle everything is.
Does it go off one day?
It will one day in the future when
Allah decides.
But if you look at how amazing and
impressive the creation of Allah is, it should
lead you to realize how insignificant you and
I are.
It should lead you to realize how great
the creator is.
That is Allah, Rabbul Izzati wal Jalal.
What has deceived you against your
own maker, your lord, the one who shaped
you, the one who gave you your identity.
I look at everyone and I think to
myself, everyone is unique.
We have an iris from Adam alayhis salam
to the end.
It will never be repeated.
I come from Africa just like you are.
You have safari in this country and so
do we.
Do you see the zebras?
Do you see the giraffe?
Do you see the leopards?
Did you know that there are no two
animals with exactly the same stripes, exactly the
same spots, exactly the same hair and the
way it actually grows.
In fact, you and I, if I were
to shave myself like I did in Umrah
a few days ago, and you look at
exactly how my hair grows on my head,
and you made a print of the way
it grows, no two people have exactly the
same.
That's Allah.
And you know what that proves?
It proves that you are going to be
held accountable in the court of Allah for
everything.
Because if there was no accountability, there would
never have been uniqueness.
There would never be uniqueness.
DNA, what is it?
Unique, why?
Qiyamah, you're going to stand in front of
Allah, that's why.
You cannot deny that I didn't do this
deed, or I did this deed, they did
that deed, and no, no, no, it is
there.
Allah Almighty says it quite clearly in the
On that day, the tongues will bear witness,
the hands will bear witness, the legs will
bear witness against whom?
Against you and I.
May Allah make those bear witness for us
rather than against us.
Why?
Why does Allah do that?
Because Allah wants you to recognize why He
put you on earth in the first place.
We go through hardship, we go through difficulty,
because that's what we are on earth for.
In order to navigate through the hardship and
difficulty, nobody has had it easy.
If we were on earth in order to
have no hardship, no difficulty, the one who's
most beloved by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
He would have had it the easiest, but
in fact, he had it the toughest.
He went through so many challenges, it started
off with a challenge.
Before his birth, his father had already passed
away, so he was born an orphan.
Good news to those who are orphans, it
does not mean Allah does not like you
because your father passed away or your mother
passed away.
You might face difficulties, challenges, that's a sign
of the love of Allah.
Take it in your stride.
Nabi Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
The most noble of all prophets,
the greatest of the creation of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, he went through those challenges.
Later on he lost his mother, young age
of six.
Later on he lost the one looking after
him, his grandfather.
Then he lost his uncle, he lost a
wife of his, dear to him, amazing, amazing
woman.
He lost her and he was saddened.
It was known as the year of sadness.
Are you sad?
You and I will be sad, we are
not prophets of Allah.
We have faced challenges as well.
Every one of us has faced hardship.
If you knew the problems I faced and
I continue to face in my life, yours
may be belittled.
When we look at what's going on in
Gaza and Lebanon and so many other places,
you and I are sitting in a paradise,
It's a paradise.
Imagine.
Every time we breathe or we show something,
people are saying, how could you be on
a jet ski when people are dying in
Gaza?
Have you heard that?
I know what they're saying.
It's a frustration.
It doesn't mean you're not allowed to eat
and drink, you are.
But bear them in mind.
Today, mashaAllah, well done.
We tried our best to do something not
just for Gaza or for Lebanon, but for
those who are less privileged than us.
That's not enough, indeed it's not enough.
But it's a start.
Like I say, if you're distanced from Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, there's always a starting
point.
And one of the starting points is, remember
Allah.
Seek the forgiveness of Allah.
Why?
The verse I read earlier, it tells us,
Who
are?
Those who are intelligent, they look at the
creation of Allah and they immediately remember Allah.
Whether they're standing, seated on their sides, what
do they say?
Praise be to Allah, glory be to
Allah, all thanks is to Allah, Allah is
the greatest, Allah is the all-powerful.
Say these words, repeat them, Allah writes them
down.
These words are not light words.
The hadith says,
Hadith, we know it's a
correct hadith.
The last hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari, the
Prophet ﷺ says, two words that you utter,
it's an utterance, movement of the tongue, a
little bit of your voice.
Two words that you utter, light on the
tongue, heavy on the scale, loved by Allah,
what are they?
Are you
going to moisten your tongue with good words?
I invite you, number one, and it's a
serious invitation, beautiful weather, isn't it?
MashaAllah.
Serious invitation, cut out abusive words, and cut
out vulgar words from today.
You don't need those words, you're a believer.
The F word is uttered like salt and
pepper.
Everyone says, hey, how the F are you
brother?
I mean, why did you have to say
that?
Don't they say that?
Wallahi, we don't want to lie, we know
what's going on.
Online, boys and girls, men and women, sometimes
outwardly they look quite practicing, but the tongue
is messed, and they think, come on, it's
just banter.
It's not banter.
It's recorded, it's registered against your name.
A word is not uttered except that there
is a record of it completely.
The angels are writing down every utterance of
yours.
I'd rather say, subhanallah, alhamdulillah, la ilaha illallah,
allahu akbar, astaghfirullah, O Allah, forgive me.
Repeat those words.
Who knows how many times
the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, used
to seek forgiveness a day?
How many?
Between 70 and 100, correct.
Meaning a large number.
And how many do we do?
Do we do 70?
You're not a prophet, I'm not a prophet.
Wallahi, we are guilty.
I'm guilty, why should I lie?
I'm guilty as well, subhanallah.
May Allah make us utter, not just an
utterance, but with consciousness.
O Allah, we seek
your forgiveness, forgive us, we turn to you.
Those words are powerful, they are written.
Imagine when you say,
If Allah is so happy and
it's heavy on the scale and the angels
are recording it, do you not think you're
going to come out of your rut?
Do you not think that you're going to
come out of your low, your low feeling
that you have?
Life is not going to be easy.
You were brought onto the earth in order
to navigate through challenges one after the other.
Allah kept Salatul Fajr at a time when
it is not easy to get up because
He wants you to earn a reward by
pushing yourself to get up.
Push yourself.
Allah wants you to earn a reward by
abstaining from certain things so they will dangle
in front of you.
It's so easy to commit this sin.
But you say, Oh Allah, I could do
this so easily.
But for you, for your sake, I just
turn away.
Allah, now you're speaking.
What will happen?
You feel good, you have to feel good.
And if you have dropped because you're a
human as we heard earlier from one of
my colleagues, Dr. Muhammad.
If you have dropped because you're a human,
you have hope in the mercy of Allah.
That's also a very important point.
Shaytan comes to you in order to make
you commit the sin.
Then as a believer, Allah makes you repent
and forgives you.
And shaytan comes back.
And you know what he says?
You're not forgiven.
It wasn't that easy.
So you start doubting whether you're forgiven or
not.
And that's where you falter and fail.
So remember, don't doubt Allah.
If you've ever asked Allah's forgiveness from anything
you said or did, it's forgiven.
If you were genuine and sincere, it's wiped
out.
So don't doubt Allah because shaytan comes back
and makes you doubt.
Do you know why?
When you start doubting, you don't feel elevated.
Doubt is from shaytan.
That type of doubt is from shaytan.
You're doubting Allah?
How could you?
When Allah tells you, Don't lose hope.
Don't lose hope in the mercy of Allah.
And what are you doing?
Exactly losing hope in the mercy of Allah.
Allah says, I am the most merciful, the
most kind, the most forgiving, the most beneficent.
And you're thinking, Hey, I don't think Allah
has forgiven me.
Stop it.
Stop it.
Don't insult Allah.
Allah has forgiven you.
And inshallah, get up and work hard.
Work hard to do two things.
To fulfill your obligations and to stay away
from the prohibitions.
And if you fall again, seek forgiveness again
and do the same.
Do the same meaning.
Tread the path, the path of goodness and
stay away from the path of evil.
Subhanallah.
Look at those who have less than you.
Those who are less fortunate than you.
You lost your spouse.
It's not going to be easy.
Yes.
There is a period within which you will
not be able to get married.
Allah wants you to go through a certain
period as a female who is a widow
for protection, for contemplation, for worship of Allah,
for getting close to Allah, for being protected
from abuse and so many other things, for
calming, for settling, for letting the dust settle.
I know of people who have said, I'll
never get married, you know, after the husband
passes away.
Never.
Why?
He was a good man.
Abu Abdullah was an amazing man.
How can I get married?
How?
When he was such a good man.
And yes, sister, you're only 28.
May Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala make it easy
for you.
And I tell you at 30, the same
sister is married and says, Wallahi, Allah blessed
me with a man better than Abu Abdullah.
How was that?
That's why I tell the guys, he says,
may Allah not take me.
What will happen to my wife?
I say, she'll probably be married to a
better guy than you.
Don't worry.
May Allah forgive us.
So it's natural, it's human to say, I
won't do something over time and the world
changes.
You may end up doing it.
Never say never for things like these.
You don't know.
But you know the emptiness of losing a
child is worse.
The emptiness of losing a child is worse.
I cannot explain to you.
I cannot comfort you more than a certain
amount.
After that, it's Allah.
Develop your link with Allah.
Praise Allah.
Remember Allah.
The dhikr of Allah.
As you stand, as you sit, as you
lie down, read your du'as, your supplications.
They will help you out.
Go and help others and Allah will help
you out of your mess.
Allah will continue to help
a slave for as long as that slave
is busy helping another.
Subhanallah.
Are you not going to be busy helping
someone?
And then, every single one of us is
a work in progress, including myself.
There are some habits I have that I
need to work on.
I may not know some of what I
need to work on, so I rely on
you to let me know.
You know what?
You need to work on this and on
this.
In my circle, I love it when my
friends tell me, you know what?
You need to just look at this and
that.
If my father was here today, he would
tell me, don't scream, you're screaming.
But excuse me, we're in Zanzibar, breathing fresh
air, we are very energetic, mashallah.
And you know what?
Alhamdulillah.
I don't think I'm yelling and screaming, but
I'm just trying to make a point.
Right?
Can I raise my volume again?
My father must have heard that inshallah.
Why I say that is simply because, in
order to know that we also have people
who tell us, do this and don't do
this.
You should have done this and you should
not have done that.
I remember giving a lecture once and I
was speaking very loud and I spoke to
my father in the evening after Taraweeh and
the talk and everything.
And he says, you were standing and delivering
the talk.
I said, yes.
He said, tomorrow, sit down.
And I know exactly his polite way of
telling me, you are screaming, you are yelling.
I was seated the next day and still
screaming a little bit and yelling a little
bit.
I thought he would tell me to lie
down.
May Allah Almighty bless us.
But nonetheless, the point I'm raising is when
you help someone, when you help someone, Allah
will help you.
When you give, Allah will give you.
When you look at those above you, you
suffer.
In what?
In material items.
In religion and closeness to Allah, you look
at those above you and you say, inshallah,
I will be there.
But don't just say inshallah, make an effort.
I was saying we are a work in
progress.
I am too.
So are you.
You have things you know you need to
change.
I have things I know I need to
change.
I have things I would like to improve
on.
I need to spend more time with the
Quran.
As the years are passing, I need to
ensure that I spend more time reading the
hadith as well.
Learning, expanding, refreshing, revising.
I'm talking of myself and all of us.
I think we're also in the same boat.
Subhanallah.
So you need to make an effort and
start with whatever Allah has made easy for
you.
For me, it might be easier to do
X, Y, Z.
For you, it might be easier to do
A, B, C.
That's why when you see someone, don't judge
a book by its cover.
Why?
You see them, you don't know their struggles.
You don't know.
Put yourself in their shoes and walk a
mile before you talk.
Because they could have managed to come so
close to Allah and one of your words
can crush them.
Just because you felt holier than thou.
That's what it was.
But you don't know how much effort they've
made and how they've come and how far
they've come, how much they've achieved.
So go easy on people, rather encourage, encourage
them.
MashaAllah, my brother, we need to do this.
Not you do this.
We need to do this.
Put yourself in the picture.
You're a human as well.
Sister, we need to do this.
Come, let's go together.
Let's do this.
Let's achieve this.
Oh, let's go for whatever it might be.
Something good.
And we will do it together by the
will of Allah.
That's how you empower people.
That's how you show care for people.
You don't just point and you don't just
yell at someone and you don't just belittle
them because you don't know the struggles.
If you sat with them for 10 minutes
and if they allowed themselves to let you
know what they've been through, you would be
ashamed of the way you treated them.
So when you see someone, whoever it may
be, go easy on them.
You don't know how far they have come,
how much effort they have made in their
lives.
And this is why I tell all of
us, myself included, let us make an effort
so we can become better.
Is it hard for me and you to
improve our dhikr, our remembrance of Allah?
Is it difficult for you and I to
push ourselves to fulfill our five daily prayers?
Is it hard?
See what Allah does for you.
I told you earlier that Allah created us
to test us.
Nabi Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had test
after test.
We said he lost his wife, he lost
his uncle, we said he lost so much,
he lost his children, all his children in
his lifetime.
One after the other besides one who passed
away after him, Fatima radhiallahu anha.
The rest of them, he buried them, most
of them, he buried them.
And subhanallah, what happened?
He was the most loved by Allah, the
highest in rank.
It shows you the nature of this world.
The world is not perfect.
In fact, paradise is perfect.
Allah created you here to go through challenge
upon challenge, one after the other, a third,
a fourth.
There's no perfection.
You know, the most beautiful or handsome from
amongst us, when they stand in front of
the mirror, they pick up a hundred things
wrong with them.
Why?
The world might say, ah, look at how
beautiful, look at how handsome, look at how
lovely, oh, flawless, oh, this, oh, not at
all.
They themselves know, my nose is bent, my
teeth are like this, my lip, one is
this way, then on this side, my ear
is a little bit bigger than the other
one and they start thinking all sorts of,
what's that?
That's shaitan.
Thank Allah, thank Allah.
Love yourself how Allah made you and you
are liberated.
Love yourself how Allah made you, you are
liberated.
Don't open the door for shaitan.
Thank Allah, oh Allah, I thank you for
giving me my identity.
You gave me my identity, I thank you
for that.
So remember one thing, perfection is going to
be in the hereafter.
If you're searching for it here, you're not
going to find it.
We will continue to work towards perfection.
We won't achieve it completely, not in this
world.
You and I have a brain that's not
absolutely perfect.
It's flawed.
And this is why we have inclinations at
times that are displeasing to Allah.
What do you do?
Control yourself.
Hold back, Allah will reward you.
Holding back, Allah rewards you.
You know the hadith says, whoever plans to
sin against Allah and then does not do
it, gets a reward because they held back
for Allah.
I remember telling this to a young boy,
some of you who follow carefully might have
heard me say this before.
And he says to me, I'm going to
plan so many sins so that I can
just sit and achieve rewards for not doing
them.
I said, come on, don't be crazy.
Don't be crazy.
You're planning so many sins and then you
say, I'm planning this, this, this, but I'm
not going to do it.
Don't be silly.
What Allah is telling us is, when you're
about to do something and you hold back
for Allah, that holding back, you can even
get paradise through that.
May Allah Almighty grant us paradise.
When Allah gives us Jannah, He looks for
anything and everything to be able to forgive
you.
So seek forgiveness of Allah every day.
It's written on your deeds.
Start your day with good remembrance as you
get up from your bedding.
Remember Allah, praise Him.
One of the supplications, we're praising Allah early
morning.
It will uplift you, it will change you,
it will bring you to a reality that
your Lord exists and you're going to go
back to your Lord.
So I'll work on my habits, you work
on yours.
I work on my connection with Allah, you
work on yours.
We are believers.
When we witness the struggles on earth, we
will definitely realize that Allah has favored us.
Allah has favored us in a million and
one ways.
Now let's get back to the jetski that
I mentioned earlier.
Early this morning, the sheikhs did not come
with me.
When they saw the fun I had, they
said, we're going to go in the morning
with you again.
Now it's too late.
Anyway, inshallah, we probably will go early morning.
So I tell you one thing, you see
the creation of Allah, look at the measure,
look at the water.
The tide rises and goes down, but there's
a measure.
Allah looks after us, praise Allah, thank Him.
Oh Allah, this water, we don't want it
to turn against us.
It has turned against people in the past.
May Allah protect us.
We don't want Allah to allow things to
happen that would be destructive to us.
So what should we do?
Build a relation with Allah.
Beautiful verse
where Allah says, Allah will not punish them
while they are seeking forgiveness.
So seek forgiveness every day.
If something happens, it won't be a punishment,
it will be a test from Allah.
A test, alhamdulillah, we will go through the
test.
You know, you go through divorce, or you're
suffering to get married, or you've lost a
child, or you've lost a job, or you
have a health condition, or you have a
social matter, or you have an issue with
someone, or your in-laws are harassing you,
and so on.
For as long as you are connected to
Allah and you are seeking forgiveness, that's not
a punishment, that's just a test.
Take it in your stride, get closer to
Allah.
Anything that brings you closer to Allah is
a blessing.
And anything that distances you from Allah is
the opposite of it.
So if you have earned, and you are
happily married, and you have your children, and
they are all great, and you have a
beautiful job, but you are far from Allah,
then that cannot be a blessing.
That's not a blessing.
That is actually something going to be held
against you the day you meet with Allah.
You see, when you meet with Allah, subhanahu
wa ta'ala, you can't lie and cheat.
You have to admit, this is what I
did, O Allah.
In fact, your organs and everything will bear
witness against you.
And there is a verse of the Quran
where Allah speaks about how everyone's going to
come defending himself and herself.
that day, every soul will come defending itself,
fighting its own case.
May Allah make it easy for us on
that day.
How is it made easy?
Seek the forgiveness of Allah, and Allah will
bring you up.
Allah will elevate you.
Believe in Allah.
We are good.
We have good hearts.
We are kind-hearted.
Look at the donations that rolled in.
I was surprised when I saw that there
was a fundraiser and people were actually donating.
Yet this country is going through struggles.
And I'm sure the charity is working in
this country and will work even more in
this country.
And we should all be working.
But at the same time, what I want
to remind you of my brothers and sisters
is don't ever feel distant from Allah to
the degree that you think I can't really
go back to Him.
No, you can.
Allah knows you.
Allah loves you.
Allah cares for you.
Allah is waiting for you.
And if you have issues, don't worry.
Bear patience.
I want to end with a verse where
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, in the
story of Yusuf a.s, you know, he
went through challenges.
I'm sure we all know them.
One, two, three, four, five things went wrong
in his life.
One after the other.
From childhood, growing up, so many things went
wrong.
Right at the end, he was victorious.
How many years was the gap between this
and that?
It is reported that more than four decades
in some narrations.
More than four decades.
Look at the prophets of Allah.
All of them had similar issues in the
sense that they went through hardship and difficulty.
Allah says, وَزُلْزِلُوا۟ They were shaken up.
Until the
messenger and those who were with, they said,
when is the help of Allah going to
come?
Allah says, the help of Allah is very
near.
Very, very near.
Today, we are in a better position than
we were yesterday.
And subhanAllah, than we were decades ago, our
fathers.
And Allah will grant us improvement as the
days pass.
Connect with Allah.
Have trust in Allah.
Rely on Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And don't leave Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
He is the most merciful.
He knows why things are happening.
So Allah says,
Whoever has two
qualities, Allah will never ever forsake them.
Their reward will always be plugged in.
What are the two qualities?
Taqwa and sabr.
Taqwa is your connection with Allah.
And sabr is generally the patience you bear
in life.
Or the energy that's required to do the
right thing, and the restraint that's required to
abstain from the wrong thing.
All that together makes sabr.
If you bear sabr for Allah, and you
try your best to better your relationship with
Allah, and you know how to better that
relationship with Allah, then Allah says He won't
ever let you down.
He won't ever let you down.
I hope that these few words, I hope
that these few words have helped.
May Allah Almighty grant me goodness, and all
of us who are seated here in this
beautiful nation of Zanzibar.
Really, I've witnessed beauty.
Not just with the scenery, and with the
nature around us, but even the people, and
the hearts, and the way the hospitality, and
the kindness.
Superb.
Superb.
Absolutely amazing.
I say this, and may Allah's peace, mercy,
and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad.
May Allah's peace, mercy, and blessings be upon
you.
