Alright. Bismillahir Rahmanirrahim.
So before we get started with, the topic
of today,
just kind of going over the 2 flyers
that I have behind me.
Like Zain said, timeless traditions is a topic
that we a halaqa that we do about
the hadith of Rassoulas salam. So every week
we take one new hadith and kind of
dissect it,
and kind of bring a relevance to it
into our lives.
Right? And it's not just
the speaker talking,
but it's a discussion where everybody kind of
shares their thoughts. So a very good program.
And so we're starting this back up. We
were we were doing it before Ramadan, then
we took a break. The second one that
we have here,
is
to join the youth council.
If you have time and you would like
to volunteer, you'd like to help and this
is,
you know, talking about Anasimatic,
it falls
in line because Anasimatic was
like, the mega volunteer.
He was the servant of the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
And a lot of times we think to
ourselves, you know, oh, it'd be cool to
have this type of youth program or that
type of youth program.
This fly right here means, let's do it.
Join the team.
Give some time.
And basically,
we map out 3 months of programs together.
What kind of programs should we have? What
kind of sisters only program? What kind of
brothers only programs? What kind of fun program?
What kind of educational programs?
And the time that it requires isn't really
much.
I would say maybe
3, 4 hours for the week, and that's
about it. Right? On Fridays, all of our
events are on the weekends. We have, like,
a meeting during the week time. So if
you can join,
please join.
It's very rewarding.
You are
a little bit of your efforts.
It benefits so many people. So many times
that we spent, like, a few hours planning,
and we've had hundreds of people come and,
you know, benefit from the program.
Alright. Moving
on. Today's topic,
and those of you that are new to
our VIPs of Islam series.
VIPs of Islam, what we do is we
take one Sahabi of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam, and we discuss the life of
that sahabi.
Previously, we talked about Abu Bakr siddiq radiya
ta'ala, Umar radiya ta'ala, Usman radiya ta'ala,
and we spoke about the Aisha'a'ala,
and Right?
In today's discussion,
there's ahabi that I would like to speak
about is.
Now, a little bit about.
Right? So I'm gonna introduce you to to
him, and then we'll talk about, you know,
some of the narrations
or later on his life.
His mother's name was Umme Soleim,
and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam had
a really
close connection with Umme Soleim. He felt very
comfortable with her. Until now, all the companions
that we spoke about were the muhajir,
people that came from Mecca
to Medina,
and that was, like, the major
group of companions. Now you have this new
group of companions of the of the Medina
companions
and the Ansar.
And Anas ibn Malik is from the Ansar
where
his mother, Umma Sulaim,
she says
that when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam came
into Madina
Right. Actually, take a step back. Anas Moussa
Malik, he narrates the thesis, and he says
that
as was
coming in,
little kids start to run, and they started
to say, Muhammadir, Muhammadir, Muhammadir.
And the narration says that there were around
500 people that came out to
welcome the prophet
And as you know, they all The little
kids and little girls they sang,
The sun, the moon has came out upon
us from the valleys of Wada.
Now our life is going to change.
When I heard everybody on all the kids,
at this time, he was just 10 years
old. Anybody 10 years old here? Adriana,
if you're 10 years old.
You're a bit older than 10. Yeah. One
hand in the back, which,
right. So young.
Anast says, I was 10 years old, and
when everybody went, I said, do you want?
Let's go as well. And I ran out
screaming, the prophet's here. The prophet's here.
Umair Sunaim then
says that everybody came to the prophet salallahu
alaihi wasallam,
and they gave the prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam
different gifts.
This person comes and he brings
food for the prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam.
Another person comes and brings clothes for the
prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam.
You know, it's an honor to have it.
Another person come and brings like gold coins.
Esulaim, she narrates a hadees and she says
that I went to the prophet salallahu alaihi
wasallam and I said, you Rasool Allah, I'm
poor.
I don't have food to give you, and
I don't have wealth to give you. I
don't have clothes to give you.
And sometimes in our life,
you know, you get these fundraisers and everybody's
like putting up their hands,
5000, a1000, and there's much other person that
does like 50,000.
And you're seeing yourself,
I barely got like $5 for, you know,
a subway sandwich in my account.
And you kinda have the halal jealousy in
your heart that I wish I had more
so I can give.
And Anath Mehdiq's mother,
she says that, I went to the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and said to prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam, the one thing I can give
you is my son, Anas. Take him. Every
day, he'll come to your house and he
will serve you and he will help you
and kind of like
take care of all the small tasks, he
will be
your mega volunteer.
He will always be there for you.
And the prophet
said,
okay.
I won't refuse.
Now about Anas radiata'an.
Anas radiata'an, his father's name was
Malik bin Nadar.
Malik bin Nadar, what happened with him is
when Islam came to Madia and to Munawurah,
he was so upset that his wife became
Muslim and other family members became Muslim
that he left Madinah and goes, you want
I want nothing to do with this. I'm
no longer a Muslim. I want I'm not
accepting Islam, and he goes to Damascus, and
he actually passes away there.
So you have people that welcome Islam,
but then you also have people that shut
the doors out.
And you might think, well, he was kind
of stupid to do so,
but the reality is so many times in
our lives,
guidance comes to us. Yeah. Okay. Now by
guidance, I don't mean Islam
but just general guidance.
The guidance to read Quran or the guidance
to praise Allah. The guidance to make the
most of your time. The guidance to not
waste your youth. The guidance to be obedient
to your parents.
This guidance comes through every single one of
our lives, and then two things happen. Number
1, you get people like Umme Soleim who
welcome it,
bring it. And you get people like Malik
bin Nadar who says, no. I don't want
this in my life.
And when Malik bin Nadar kind of seems
stupid to do so, foolish to do so,
a lot of times we become Malik bin
Nadar.
And we say the guidance that
that you're giving me, I don't want it.
And this guidance can come maybe sometime from
your parents, that your parents are telling you,
Britta, don't do this.
And like, oh,
again Or it can come from, like, your
local imam or a sheikh or maybe like
a friend of yours who really who's really
worried about you and said, you know what?
This is harmful. Maybe you shouldn't talk to
so and so people.
Maybe that thing that you're, you know, that
you're going towards
might not be the best for you.
So a lot of time when we look
at Malik Benatar,
we we laugh at him,
but the reality is that sometimes we take
that same shape as well.
But where our role should be is whenever
you get guidance,
you bring it on into your life.
You accept
it.
So
unless it's Mag's father, he passes away as
a non Muslim,
and his mother actually gets married to by
and he gets married by, to a person
by name Abu Talha.
And this trio
He had other siblings as well, but this
trio right here,
and
is like
LeBron,
Dwayne,
and Bosh.
Right? The reason being is that these were
like the big three.
Even though Anas Matic was like 10 years
old, he was still a mountain.
And let me explain to you how huge
these three were.
One time, Abu Tal Harun Sali,
Anas is his stepfather.
He's praying salah,
and
he thinks about the verse where lost where
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasalam says, let sorry.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
That you won't achieve greatness until you spend
from that which you love.
You know when it comes time to give
to somebody,
you kinda look at all of your options.
You open your closet,
and you're like, this shirt,
Uh-uh. I love this shirt.
This abaya No. No. No. I This is
my shadi abaya. I go wear it to
every shadi.
That one, I think I wore it last
year. I'm gonna hold on to it.
But the one that's all the way in
the corner
that
you probably got is, like, equivalent to a
ugly Christmas sweater.
That one, okay. Yeah. That one I'm gonna
give. I'm gonna give in the path of
Allah. I'll give it to somebody else. And
Allah says, no. No. If you want greatness,
then the way that you achieve greatness is
you give from that what you love.
And Anas radiya a talan, he's praying that
he's written insulah and he's reading this verse
and he's like, wait,
what do I really love?
And he looks around when he gets done.
He gets down on the slot and goes,
the garden that I'm praying in right now,
this is my garden. Fruit trees, wells,
water.
He goes, I really love this garden.
He goes to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
he says, You Rasoolah, that garden right there,
it's yours. Take it.
Give it to a Muslim. Whoever needs it,
I'm I give it away.
And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says, Anas,
are you sure?
Maybe, like, give, like, a small portion of
it. Maybe, like, give some fruits from it
or a tree from it. Don't get, like,
the whole garden. He's like, yeah. I love
it. I'm giving it.
He goes home to his wife,
and you guys imagine he's probably like, oh,
man. How am I gonna explain this?
Like, you go home to your mom like,
mom. I donated our car.
I've given away our house.
I've gave all my food away. All the
money I had I gave away. And your
mom's like, what?
And he says to his wife, Umme Saleem,
look before you get upset,
I just gave the garden away.
And said, what do you get in return?
And he says,
Jannah,
I got paradise in return.
And she replies back,
that's a good deal.
That's a smart move.
And this is why they're the power,
you know, trio.
You know, one of my favorite stories of
Abu Talha and Umme Soleim
is during the battle
of conduct,
Where
during the battle of khandaq, the the battle
of khandaq, the digging of these trenches
lasted for weeks and it was in a
very tough time. It was during the winter.
The Muslims didn't have much food
And this is where like the Sahabis go
to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, and
they say that, we're
so
hungry.
And this hungry, I'm not talking about like
you open your fridge, and there's so much
food there. Mom, there's no food. I'm hungry.
But this is like literally, they said that
we were so hungry that we took stones
and tied it to our stomachs
to full our stomachs and make our stomachs
feel like there's something there. That's how starving
these people were.
And they go to the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam, they said,
we're so hungry that we've had to tie
stones to our stomach and the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam lifts up his upper garment and
he shows that he has 2 stones
tied to his stomach. That's how hungry they
were. Abu Talal alaihi wasallam, he sees this
and he goes to his wife. He goes,
he asked, do we have any food?
I can't see the prophet of a God
like this.
She says, we have like a small goat
and a little bit of bread.
You know, I'll make some I'll make I'll
make some bread from the dough, from the
from the flour, and we'll sacrifice this goat
and we'll make some curry, some stew.
It might be enough for the prophet salallahu
alaihi wasallam, Abu Bakr, Omar,
Usman, Ali, like 4 or 5 people. That's
it.
Abu Talah goes to the prophet of salallahu
alayhi wasalam and he says to RasulAllah salallahu
alayhi wasalam,
can you and maybe like 3 or 4
people like not everybody here. We don't got
that much pizza tonight.
We got pizza for maybe like 2 or
3 of y'all.
Let's go to my house.
And the prophet, salawhayhi salam, he stands up
bearing in mind that the Muslim army was
around 3,000 people.
The prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam stands up and
says to everybody,
y'all, we're going to Abu Talah's house. Everybody,
let's go.
And Abu Talah was all the time like,
wait. Hold up. This is not good. Kill
me. She said, like, 4 or 5, I'm
bringing 3,000. I'm in big trouble. And he
actually starts to rush home. Like, he starts
going. And
and
like, you can just imagine he's like, you
want Domino's 30 minutes, get some pizzas in
here?
But the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam says,
come here. Hold my hand.
And he holds Abu Talal's hand.
And
he walks with the prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam.
And then the prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam says,
go now
and tell your wife
to keep the food covered and I will
come and serve the food.
And the narration says that the prophet salallahu
alayhi wasalam served the food with his own
hands
and groups came into the house. They ate.
They left. And the next group came into
the house. They ate. They left. Next group
came in the house. They ate and they
left
until everybody
ate. Everybody was full.
And the narration says that even the people
in the house, the women in the house,
the children in the house, they ate as
well.
And this was Abu Talha
Umisulayim
and of course her son
Anasul
Malik
Now, the most unique thing about Anasul Malik.
Anasul Malik, he stayed with the prophet salallahu
alaihi wasalam. Okay.
Quick
quiz.
How many years was the prophet salallahu alaihi
wasalam in Madinah for?
How many years? So we know the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam received prophet at the
age of 40. He was a prophet for
23
years. He stayed in Makkah for 13 years.
How many years was he in Madinah? I
just basically gave you the answer right there.
10
years. Right. 10 years he was in Madinah
as a prophet. Anas salvia alaalam came into
the care of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam while he was 10 years old
and he
was 20 years old when the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam passed away.
This age right here
from 10 to 20
is the worst time in a person's life.
Right? If you are in this stage right
now,
then you probably do some not so smart
stuff.
The beginning stage
is all about annoying
people.
Right. And if you have like a younger
sibling that's 10, 11 years old,
you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Then they move on to an age of
12, 13, 14 years old and this age
is all about rebelling.
I'm gonna do what I want,
And then you move from there
15, 16, 17 years old and is like,
do you want I just don't care.
And towards it in 19, 20 you start
like, okay, do you want I got to
fix myself.
So he was with the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam from 10 to 20. Very troublesome
years.
He narrates a hadith. I'm gonna share this
hadith with you. He says that the Prophet
Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
never once, not even a single time
said to me,
why did you do it like this or
why do you not do it like that?
Even though I was with him in the
most troublesome years of my life, he never
got mad at me.
He never scolded me.
He never like, you know, put me down
that you're that you never get right.
What's wrong with you?
He never raised his voice,
and this was the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
actually teaching parents
how to parent your children.
He said that I never felt hands that
were softer than the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
That whenever he I would come he would
hold my hand and the softness of his
hand just
it emanated love.
Anas Nadeem shared the narration.
He goes, one time, the prophet salallahu alaihi
wasalam told me to go do some work
and this is like every day in the
Daisy household.
Your father tells you, bani lau. Your mother
tells you, go roam up the food.
Right?
Every day.
Anasul Ma'ik says that while I was going
So the prophet gave me a task and
I'm going to fulfill this task, And on
the way there,
I see some kids playing.
And if you ever, like
if you're a boy or even a girl,
and you see somebody playing Nintendo Wii
or Nintendo
Switch, you
know, PS 5,
Xbox,
just sitting there watching
is like a lot of fun.
You know, back in our days, like, we
would go to the arcades, and then if
you didn't have the coins just standing there
watching, I would tell my mom, like, can
I just go and watch?
I'm almost there. She's like, I'm not giving
no money. So I'm like, okay. Fine. Let
me just go watch somebody else play because
that itself is entertaining.
Anessa Donaldson said that these kids were playing
and they were doing, like, you know, some
sort of sport, and I just started watching.
And I lost track of time.
And the next thing I know, the prophet,
salallahu, has been standing in front of me.
And I thought to myself, oh my god.
I messed up.
Ask me,
why haven't I done it? What's wrong me?
I'm busted.
And the props and locksmith spoke up and
he goes,
did you do what I asked you?
And I said,
no I didn't.
I kind of got sidetracked.
The prophet
said,
No. He said, Okay. Fine.
Go ahead finish watching.
When you're done,
take care of it.
That's it. And it's sound like, Wait. I
don't I'm not grounded.
Like I don't gotta do murga or like
the the the this famous chair against the
wall. I don't get like, you know, beat
up. That's it. You know what? I just
do it later on, and the prophet says,
yeah.
And this teaches you
once again how to deal with younger people.
Anas Wazallam wasn't perfect,
but the one thing about him was
he got this title of
the servant of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
The narration says that what he would do
is every morning
before the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam woke up.
Right? What time is Fajr? Someone look at
the clock and tell me what time Fajr
is. 5:15. 5:15.
Imagine waking up before 5:15
and coming to the masjid
and taking care of stuff
like preparing the water,
you know, you know, putting the mat out
for the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
before the prophets allahu alaihi wa sallam woke
up, and then the prophets allahu alaihi wasallam
come and he would pray with Anas radiota'ala.
The narrations is that if the prophets allahu
alaihi wasallam was fasting that day, Anas would
go and prepare the food first. You know,
suhoor.
Like the thing that your mom does while
you're like half asleep.
Your mom prepared food. This is what Anas
would do for the for the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam because he had that love for
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
And one time he says, sir, rasallahu alaihi
wasalam,
can you make dua for me?
And the prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam says, I
got you.
He says, oh Allah,
give on us a long life
and give him many children.
Anastasan says
that those was,
they came true.
He said at one point, I had
80 children,
including his offspring, like his grandchildren and stuff
like that.
And as for a long life, he was
the last Sahabi to pass away.
The very last Sahabi to pass away was
Anas bin Malik.
There's a narration. It's just a small joke.
They said that Anas became so old
because of the dua of the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
Alright. How do we base Ramzan off of?
What's what do we base Ramzan off of?
When does Ramblan start? What's the actual like
way of telling you? Not the calendar.
Not your phone app. The moon. And the
people go out and look for the moon.
And one time, because
he was so old that time, he's like,
look. The moon's right there. The moon's right
there.
And everyone's looking like, where? And he's right
there. Right there. Right there. And like, Anas,
there's no moon there. And they're like, yes,
sir. It's right there. And they're like, wait.
Wait. Hold up.
Now look. Like, where is it gone?
And it was this white hair from his,
like, eyebrow that was hanging down that he
mistaked as the moon.
But that's how old Anasul Alaikhan
lived to be
because of this duas of the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
I'm gonna wrap up
with a
You know, Anasul Alaikhan just just
he actually, you know, participated.
During the time of Abu Bakr Al Adhan,
Abu Bakr Al Adhan assigned him
to be the one who collects zakat.
Omar al Adhan's time, he was in charge
of like education, teaching.
Right? And we get a lot of our
deen from Anas alaihi wa ta'ala because he
teaches like the closeness. He was very close
to prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
During the khilafa of Uthman
alaihi wa ta'ala an, you know, he just
avoided all the turmoil and we talk about
this turmoil some other time.
In the Khalifa of Abdullah bin Zubair,
Anas Adhan was appointed as the governor of
Basra for 40 days, and that's it.
Now,
the narration that I wanted to share with
you.
This is probably one of my favorite narrations.
Anas Uddan says
that the prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam said to
me, Anas
and I want you to think that he's
not saying Anas,
that he's saying hamza, he's saying Zakaria, he's
saying
Mustafa, he's saying,
you know, Hamna, he's saying Aya,
he's saying your name instead of
Anas. The prophet says,
Anas,
if you can,
if it's possible,
before you go to sleep,
look into your heart.
So before you go to sleep, look into
your heart.
And if there's any hatred there,
any ill feelings there,
any, you know, malice for a person,
If you can,
forgive them.
And he says that, do this every morning
every night.
You know, if
I didn't know anything about Islam,
if I didn't know anything about Islam,
this one hadith
is enough
to tell me Islam is a true religion.
You understand like how beautiful this hadith is?
This hadith is basically saying that no matter
what people do to you,
learn to clean your heart.
Don't harbor
ill feelings.
Don't manifest hatred
in your heart.
Like beautiful are these, but guess what?
The beauty is actually yet to come
because then the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says,
this forgiving people every day,
I do that.
Actually do it. And when I was a
kid, my father, he would tell me like,
oh, moving, go read Quran for 2 hours.
I'm like,
what? 2 hours?
Like, but wait, I I never see you
reading Quran like, how come
The prophet says, look, I'm not just telling
you do it. I do it every single
night.
And what this means is
Let me break it down further.
This means
in the daytime,
they throw stones at him,
and at the nighttime,
he looks into his heart and says,
I forgive you.
In the daytime,
they take the stomach of a camel,
and they put it on his back while
he's in sajdah.
And at nighttime, he looks into his heart
and he's like, he went,
I forgive you.
In the daytime, they make fun of him
because his son passed away. His son that
was in his infancy passed away, and they
call him that
your lineage is cut off. And at nighttime,
he says,
I forgive you. In the daytime,
they kill his uncle Hamza. They chew his
liver. And at nighttime he says,
I forgive you.
And this hadith that Anasudhan
narrates,
it shows us the beauty of Islam. You
know, if I were to summarize Anasudhan's life
and like say what are the take home
points?
The one take home point from the life
of Anasudhan is
learn to serve others.
It's not about what other people can do
for me.
It's about what can I do for others?
That's
the main lesson in the life of an
life of Anasul Dhawan.
The great Muhammad Ali, he said
that your service to others
is the rent that you pay for living
in the sunnaya.
When you help others,
when you go out of your way for
somebody else,
this art is actually lost.
People always say, what's in it for
me?
What what do I get out of it?
You never heard this term, what do I
get out of it?
That's not what the prophet was about. The
prophet was like, what can I give you?
How could I benefit?
And Muhammad Ali, he brings it down and
he said that that's the rent that you
pay
for living in this dunya.
Learn to serve others.
You know, there's a Urdu saying
that
when you worship Allah,
you get Jannah.
By praying salah,
you get Jannah.
By reading Quran you get Jannah.
But when you serve others
you don't get Jannah, you get Khuda.
You get Allah.
Allah falls in love with you.
And what haditha prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says
All the creation, everything that Allah swan has
created,
all human beings,
they are a part of Allah's family. Not
family. That doesn't mean like son, daughter, nothing
like that. It means like Allah swan made
their close to Allah.
And then the prophet
says, the most beloved
or a habu, the most beloved to Allah
are the people
who serve
the creation of Allah.
So if you want to become the most
beloved to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, and this
is the goal that every single one of
us has.
How can I get close to God?
And the answer to that is simple,
serve others.
