If you believe, be mindful of Allah and
say the right words.
He will correct your deeds and forgive you
your sins.
And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has
certainly attained a great success.
As for what follows, the truth of the
Hadith is the words of Allah.
And the best guidance is the guidance of
Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and
his family.
All praise is due to Allah.
We praise Him.
We seek His aid and we ask for
His forgiveness.
We seek refuge in Allah from the evils
of ourselves and the evil consequences of our
actions.
Whomsoever Allah guides, none can lead astray.
And whomsoever Allah leads to go astray, none
can guide.
I testify that there is none worthy of
our worship and devotion but the Almighty Allah
alone.
And I testify that Muhammad, peace and blessings
be upon him and his family, is His
servant and His Messenger.
O you who believe, fear Allah as He
should be feared and die not except in
a state of surrender.
O mankind, be dutiful to your Lord who
created you from a single person.
And from Him He created His wife and
from them both He created many men and
women.
And fear Allah through whom you demand your
mutual rights and observe the rights of your
kin.
Surely Allah is ever and all-watcher over
you.
O you who believe, keep your duty to
Allah.
Fear Him and speak the truth.
He will direct you to righteous deeds and
will forgive your sins.
And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has
indeed attained a great achievement.
The best words are the divine words of
the Almighty.
And the best guidance is that of His
Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him
and his family.
And the worst things in the religion are
the newly invented matters.
For all the newly invented matters in religion
are heretical innovation and bid'ah.
And every bid'ah is misguidance.
Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was
once among his companions.
And he asked them a question about a
word that they were familiar with.
But he had something to teach them.
So he said, Do you know who is
al-muflis?
Literally means bankrupt.
Someone who has no wealth.
A penniless person.
They said, the muflis, the bankrupt among
us, is someone who has no wealth and
no property.
The Prophet ﷺ says, The
muflis, the bankrupt from my ummah, is the
one who comes or arrives on the day
of judgment, having done good deeds, like fasting,
praying, and zakah.
And it's not limited to those deeds, but
those are the greatest manifested deeds in Islam.
Acts of worship, the pillars of Islam.
So the
Prophet ﷺ says to them, the bankrupt in
my ummah, from my ummah, is someone who
comes on the Day of Judgment having done
righteous deeds.
So I'm going to translate the hadith, but
I will also paraphrase, just to put the
full context and meaning.
So he comes on the Day of Judgment,
or she comes on the Day of Judgment
having done the righteous deeds.
Fasting, Ramadan, and maybe even more extra days.
Having prayed the five daily prayers, and maybe
even the sunnah and qiyam al-layl.
And having given zakah, the obligatory zakah, and
the sadaqah.
Having given more for the sake of Allah.
So someone gives away from their wealth for
the sake of Allah, righteous deeds.
And this is a sample of the greatest
deeds.
And this includes everything else.
This person reads the Qur'an, this person
makes dhikr, this person comes to the masjid,
this person tries to implement as much as
possible of Islam.
But this person has insulted that person.
He swore at them in their face, or
said something bad, abused them verbally, or slandered
them, or backstabbed them by speaking about them
behind their back.
Sound like familiar actions?
That's what we do in our social gatherings.
That's what we do when we get upset.
We do that sometimes with family members, sometimes
we do that with our spouses, sometimes we
do that with our siblings.
Allah forbid, with our parents, some people do
that, which becomes a major sin in Islam.
Or we do that with strangers, with neighbors,
with random people, with friends.
But we find like, I just got angry
and I need to vent out, so I
just say what's in my mind.
But if it's not right for you, it's
not okay for you to abuse someone verbally.
You are breaking their rights, you're violating their
rights.
With Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, it's a
crime.
It's a crime, no matter what societal norms
suggest, no matter what the legal system says,
you can swear, that's fine, that's your right.
It's not your right in Islam.
It's an abuse of someone's sanctity.
Every letter that you utter is gonna come
on the day of judgment and you will
have to answer for it.
When you stand before Allah, why did you
say it?
Did you say it in truth?
Was it justified?
Or was it an act of violation and
abuse?
And if it's abuse, that means you are
going to deal with the consequences.
Or he slandered someone, you were backbiting someone,
you were not here, but you were speaking
about them.
Did you see their haircut?
Did you see what they were wearing that
day?
Did you hear what they said?
What did they do?
What so and so said about this person?
Let me tell you something you don't know
about this person.
Yeah, this is how we speak in our
gatherings, right?
We try to gain this kind of social
currency, we want to be the cool guy,
make fun of others, speak about them behind
their back, and you're laughing and having fun.
But you're gonna cry, you're gonna tear up
blood on the day of judgment before Allah
holds you accountable.
And you see the consequences of that violation,
of that evil.
So that's the bankrupt.
Someone who comes with so many good deeds,
they can be the most righteous person you
know.
But they have abused someone, they have slandered
someone, or they were backbiting someone.
Or they took the property
of someone.
How come?
You cheated as you were doing business.
You promised someone, you owe someone something, and
you don't give it to them.
You keep putting it off, you say later
on, later on.
But you can give them what you owe
them.
And you just say later on, later on,
maybe they'll forget.
And you think you can get away with
that.
But that's recorded with Allah, and you will
be held accountable.
And you will still owe them that thing
until the day of judgment when they get
it from you.
Or that you took part
in shedding the blood of an innocent person.
You either do it yourself by hand, or
you do it by inciting hatred in person
or online, or even you cheer up someone
who murders people, criminals, who unjustly violate the
sanctity of a human life.
You become a partner, you become a contributor
in this crime, and you will be held
accountable according to the level of your contribution.
And also physically attacked, or smacked,
or hurt someone.
You might think, or I can push someone
out of the line, or I don't feel
good about them, so I'm just gonna hurt
them somehow.
And it could be as simple as, you
know what?
Just bumping into someone's car in the parking
lot, causing a dent, and just driving away,
no one saw that, no surveillance camera, I'm
good.
It's gonna come to you on the day
of judgment, and you'll have to pay for
it then.
So the Prophet ﷺ says, the bankrupt of
my ummah is someone who has done righteous
deeds.
And imagine when someone comes on the day
of judgment having done righteous deeds, we feel
good about ourselves.
We feel good about ourselves.
I've done so much for the sake of
Allah.
I've prayed, I woke up at night, and
I read Qur'an, and I prayed for
the sake of Allah, I fasted the long
days, I read Qur'an, maybe I studied
Islam, maybe I gave sadaqa.
So we come on the day of judgment,
good about ourselves.
The Prophet ﷺ says, but if you have
done those things, what will happen?
Every person that you owe something to, in
any way, it could be those obvious actions,
the scholars also speak about, violations that you
have against others in your heart, if you
don't fight against those tendencies.
You have envy towards someone.
You have what?
Contempt towards a Muslim.
You look down upon them.
Right?
You hate them for no good reason.
And you harbor that hate, and you celebrate
it, and you hold on to it.
And you let the flames of hate grow
stronger and stronger.
And you think, Allah doesn't hold me accountable
by what's in my heart.
These are among the major sins in Islam.
When you harbor this evil in your life,
in your heart, you allow shaitan to take
over your heart.
You are committing some of the major sins
in Islam.
If you have arrogance and pride in yourself,
and you show that to others, or you
treat others based on that superiority, your self
-claimed superiority, that's al-kibr.
That's a violation of these people.
Because it will show.
And you will have to pay for that.
So, we come on the Day of Judgment
with great deeds.
Then Allah says, Come, everyone will get their
rights.
Everyone will get even today.
The Prophet ﷺ said, in the authentic hadith,
You shall be, the
disputes among you will be settled on the
Day of Judgment.
All
the disputes will be settled.
All of injustices will be restored.
Even sheep, animals.
If an animal doesn't have horns, and it
was rammed by an animal that had horns,
the one that was beaten will get its
rights.
Imagine about humans.
The people of Jannah will not enter Jannah.
The final stage before entering Jannah, there is
a Qantarah, there is a bridge.
Where the believers after crossing the bridge over
the hellfire, the believers will be on that
bridge.
And they will not enter Jannah as long
as they owe someone something.
No matter how small that is.
So people's rights are sacred.
So on the Day of Judgment, the Prophet
ﷺ says about the bankrupt person, so he's
done all of these good deeds.
So everyone they owe something to will come,
and they will take from his good deeds.
Your records of good deeds, your prayer, your
fast, your zakah, your Qur'an, your night
prayer, your dua, your help towards others, your
righteousness, they will take from it.
Because there is no dirham and there is
no dinar.
There's no currency at that time.
The only accepted currency on that day is
good deeds and evil deeds.
This is why the Prophet ﷺ says in
another hadith, collected by Al-Bukhari, مَنْ كَانَ
And this is an advice to every
Muslim.
Whoever owes his brother, and that means any
Muslim or any human being, whoever owes someone
something, whether it has to do with their
dignity, like you spoke about them, you insulted
them, you set them up in any way,
or you hurt them, or you wrong them
in any way, even if they don't know
about it, or any kind of injustice.
The Prophet ﷺ says, settle it today.
Settle that injustice today.
Before the day comes when there will
be no dirham, no dinar.
If his good deeds are not
enough to pay off those people to whom
he committed injustice, then
عَلَيْهِ Then their evil deeds فَحُمِلَ عَلَيْهِ Their
evil deeds will be taken and their good
evil deeds will be given to him, put
in his records.
And he will have to pay for that
in the hellfire.
So free yourself today.
Free yourself today.
So the Prophet ﷺ back to the first
hadith.
The Prophet ﷺ says, then people will take
from his good deeds.
People will take from the good deeds.
And if his good deeds run out before
he pays people what he owes them, their
evil deeds, some of their evil deeds will
be taken and placed in his record.
And he will be held accountable for that.
That's what's gonna happen on the Day of
Judgment.
So it's not how much you have done.
It is, are you clear from people's rights?
Imam Ahmad ﷺ collected in his musnad, from
Aisha ﷺ, that the Prophet ﷺ said, تُنشَرُ
Three records will be
opened on the Day of Judgment.
Three cases will be opened on the Day
of Judgment.
There will be three records or three
cases opened for every person on the Day
of Judgment.
The first one, one of them, Allah is
forgiving and graceful about it.
The second one, Allah will leave nothing in
that record without being resolved.
And the third record, Allah will not forgive
anything in it.
So the one that Allah will forgive nothing
about it is shirk.
To associate partners with Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala and commit shirk.
And the record that Allah will be graceful
with and forgiving with, if the person obviously
makes tawbah and does righteous deeds and honest
and sincere.
These are the sins that you commit between
you and Allah.
Hopefully Allah will forgive them.
And the third record that Allah will leave
nothing of it until He resolves it, until
He settles it, are the rights of other
people.
The rights of other people.
So the advice of the Prophet ﷺ here
is that all of us as we deal
with people, whether family members, relatives, distant people,
colleagues, friends, neighbors, people in line.
We humans are very good at justifying our
bad deeds.
Say, I have a good reason for that.
So these excuses will not benefit you with
Allah.
They will not benefit you with Allah.
You'll have to pay.
You can convince yourself.
I have a point.
They provoked me.
So I'm justified in that.
Well, how are you gonna pay that before
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?
So what I would say today, make an
inventory of people that you owe them something,
people you've wronged.
Maybe it could be from the time of
school, people you spoke bad about, in their
face or behind their back.
Maybe something you took that didn't belong to
you, no one saw, but you owe it
to that person.
It will never be forgotten.
Free yourself today before you sacrifice your good
deeds on the day of judgment, before you
sacrifice on the day of judgment getting people's
sins being placed on your records and having
to be punished for them.
Clear yourself from today.
The scholars are agreed that when you make
tawbah about sins that you have committed between
you and Allah, you are sincere, Allah will
forgive you.
But if your sins, the sins that you
are repenting from have to do with other
people's rights, the tawbah will not be accepted
until you settle the affair with the concerned
person.
So if you took someone's property, you know,
even if it's a piece of chewing gum,
even if it's a pencil, no matter what
that is, you know what?
If someone has been waiting for a spot
in a parking lot and you managed to
maneuver and take it before them, you've taken
their rights, you've taken their place on the
line, that's injustice.
Don't look for the legal system, there's no
morality behind it.
The legal system has no morality behind it.
Look at the divine law.
If you can get away with something legally,
it doesn't mean it's morally okay.
It doesn't mean you'll be safe on the
day of judgment.
Let your standards be the divine standards, the
ones set by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And make sure from today you start to
clear yourself.
And by the way, many people as Ramadan
inshallah is about in two months, people are
sometimes say, you know, I try in Ramadan
and I don't really feel the beauty of
worship, and I don't get so much benefit
from, I try hard, but my heart is
hardened.
You know, when your heart has committed so
much, so many atrocities, so much, a lot
of injustice, it is plagued.
It doesn't function.
It is hardened.
It's not gonna feel the love of Allah.
So a good preparation or warm up for
Ramadan is to start to free yourself now,
free your racket from people's rights.
I'm sure every one of us, you have
somebody that you want.
The moment you were in this life, you
owe someone something, give it back to them
as far as you can remember.
And you should proactively make an effort to
really make a list of that.
Try to remember.
Ask people that you know.
Do you know that I've wronged someone?
Is there something that I did even in
the old days?
Start to free yourself from now.
Make sure because...
And here I conclude with one advice from
Abdullah ibn Umar.
A man sent him a letter and he
Write to me
with all of knowledge.
Write me back all of the knowledge.
I want to learn everything.
So write all the knowledge for me.
So he writes back to him.
Seeing the zeal, he wants to give him
a good advice.
This knowledge is too much.
But it's still nothing.
Allah gave us very little knowledge.
says, knowledge is so much although what we
are given is little but if you can
meet Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala with your
records clear of the blood of people no
violation against people's lives clear from their wealth
and you don't owe them anything and clear
from their dignity and their rights the personal
rights or the psychological rights no abuse, nothing
against them if you can meet Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala clear and you still hold
on to the congregation of the Muslims then
this is the essence and the best of
knowledge because knowledge is for action knowledge is
for action, it's how you behave it's how
you translate it into a lifestyle بارك
