AI: Summary ©
And
I would say
we have,
as we deal with tafsir al imam, bin
Saadi
We have finished,
or covered the tafsir of Surat Al Hadid.
Now we can move on to Surat Al
Waqqah,
which is actually a very interesting Surah and
some people have this as their favorite Surah.
There are some things that we can say
about the Surah in general, but I'll leave
it until more,
Insha'Allah,
more people arrive and join.
Here, Allah tells us about the inevitable event
that will definitely come to pass. It is
the resurrection,
which no one will deny. That is there
is no doubt about it because there is
rational and textual evidence for it, and divine
wisdom dictates it.
It will bring some low and raise others
up. That is, it will bring some people
to the lowest of the low, and raise
others to the most sublime of degrees.
When the earth is shaken violently,
that is when it moves and is thrown
into turmoil,
and the mountains crumble and turn to scattered
dust, and the earth is left with no
mountains or landmarks.
And he will leave the earth as a
smooth leveled plain in which you will see
no depression or elevation, Surataha.
And you, oh people, are sorted into 3
kinds. That is you will be divided into
3 categories
according to your deeds, good and bad.
Then Allah explains further about the situation of
those 3 categories.
Then there will be those on the right.
How blessed will be those on the right.
This is indicative of their high status and
favorable situation.
And there will be those on the left.
How wretched will be those on the left.
This is indicative of the terrible state they
they will be in.
And the foremost are the foremost. It is
they who will be brought near to Allah.
That is the foremost to do good in
this world will be the 1st to enter
paradise in the hereafter.
Those who are like this will be close
to Allah and gardens of delight in the
most sublime status and lofty dwellings with no
dwellings above them.
Those who are mentioned here will be a
multitude of those of old.
That is many from the earlier generations of
this Ummah and other nations,
and a few from those of later times.
This is indicative of the superiority of the
early generations of this Ummah
over its later generations in general terms
because the numbers of those who are close
to Allah are greater among the earlier generations
than among the later generations.
Okay.
So again
is in many ways is similar to the
surahs that describe,
the Akhirah
and we studied some of them. So let's
see if you can recall some of them.
Okay.
Okay. Here, we're getting stronger here. Alhaqqah. Yes.
A clear description. It starts with one of
the names and so on and describes it.
What?
Al Qariya. Al Qariya
and its sister.
Okay. The sister of.
Okay.
So these are the Surahs that describe the
day of judgement, and they usually start with
or the verses are short
and very profound. The description is very profound.
So Allah
wants to,
awaken the concept of fear in our hearts
of that day.
And this is the point,
behind the mention, one of the main points
behind the mention.
So this is one of the more one
of the main points behind the mention of
these Suras and this kind of description.
Tal Tal Tal, what's going on?
Kehal, how are you? You good? Do you
have a lollipop for me?
You have one for me? For me?
Go and get me one.
Okay. So, Allah, this surah is called
and
comes from the root
or from the original word waka'a.
Waka'a, and
the meaning of the word waka'a is
to word.
Let's see those who speak Arabic.
Do you catch the original meaning or do
you catch secondary meanings?
Wakah.
What is the original meaning of Wakah?
I'm just I'm I can't hear any clear
words.
What is? It's a verb. What does it
mean?
Okay. That's the secondary meaning.
To what? For something to
to stick or something
to, We're getting way, way too far.
Too advanced.
Yeah.
To one of those who know the Arabic
language, what's
To fall.
Fall to the ground.
No. Fall to the ground. Wakah.
Right? For something to fall they say waka.
Wakah.
And from this
original
meaning they had the meaning of 'happen'. Why?
Because when something happened it already
it fell on the land of reality, on
the plane of reality. It became
a reality, you can't remove it now.
So that's where
the meaning happened
right? Became attached to waka'a. Waka'a
originally means to fall, for something to fall.
Allah calls it
in the sense that it's inevitable to happen.
Either
Allah calls it as if it happened already.
Like it is so certain,
it is so
definite
that Allah calls it as if it has
already happened
and also,
yeah, so that's the meaning of Al Wakah.
So Al Wakah is one of the names
of the judgement day. Of judgement day is
Al Wakah.
In its occurrence,
in its inevitability, there is no doubt.
And SubhanAllah,
you're gonna find this to be one of
the
main features in this verse.
The separation
of or the the classification of people into
groups.
The classification
of people into groups.
So Allah says
This is the first instance where Allah
divides people into 2 types.
It's gonna
debase some people.
Is gonna elevate some people.
So some people on the day of judgment
will be elevated and some people will be
debased.
That's what's gonna happen on the day of
judgment. Some people will be
above, some people will be below. The people
of the hellfire are the ones who are
going to be disgraced, debased, humiliated.
The believers, the ones who truly worshipped Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, they are the ones who
will be elevated and they will be honored
by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala In status and
in reality as well because Jannah is above,
whereas the hellfire,
so Jannah is
levels
of of height.
Salaam Alaikum. You got one for me?
Where is it? Where's my lollipop?
Okay. Listen.
Go to your mommy.
So
the Jannah, when the Prophet talks about Jannah,
he mentions darajat.
So there are elevated states in Jannah.
There are elevated states in Jannah. Whereas when
the prophet talks about Jahannam,
he talks about dawakat dawakat is steps that
go downward
steps that go downward so this is the
meaning of kafiyalatun
alafiyah it's going to debase some people. So
some of the people who were high in
this life,
in the sense in a high position,
they were wealthy, they were powerful,
they were famous,
they had
a high
socioeconomic
status,
right, on the day of judgment, they will
be the lowest
because of their disbelief.
Whereas some of the people who were considered
to be among the lowest in our society
will most likely will sometimes be the highest.
And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam mentioned,
The prophet says how often there is a
person
like he's very in a very bad state,
like in terms of clothing, in terms of
shape
and looks,
disheveled,
dusty,
worn out clothes.
He's just wearing 2 pieces of cloth that
are not even tailored.
They're not even tailored to be clothes.
That's a sign of poverty and lack.
He is pushed away from people's gates, from
people's doors. People don't welcome him into their
house. Why?
Because I mean
this is someone that you would push away
from your door because he doesn't look good.
He looks dirty, poor,
not necessarily dirty, but not
necessarily again,
very,
how can I say? Flashy and
elegant,
right?
No one cares about him.
People don't count him or her.
People don't make
any estimate for those people. They don't count
them.
They don't even think about them. They don't
care about them.
If this person were were to swear by
Allah over something, Allah would fulfill it for
him or
him.
So again with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, you
know, the parameters are different.
The parameters are different.
The most noble,
the most valued with Allah
among you are the most pious.
The ones who truly
give Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala his rights.
Okay.
And again, on the day of judgment, you
will find some of the
most powerful, the people who were the most
powerful in this life,
the most affluent,
everyone looked up to them, everyone respected them
and celebrated their presence. You would find them
who are disgraced on the day of judgment.
No one cares about them. Actually, the prophet
mentions in the authentic hadith,
Those arrogant, prideful people,
they will be, on the day of judgment,
brought
in the form of tiny insects.
People would be walking all over them.
So, again, the status of a person in
this dunya does does not necessarily have a
correlation
with their status on
the on the day of judgment.
Again, just like the previous surahs that we
that we discussed before that talk about that
describe the day of judgment,
The description is very profound and scary.
When the earth is shaken.
So when it's shaken,
all of the features and the landmarks on
earth are destroyed.
And the mountains,
think about the Himalayas,
think about the Rocky Mountains,
the Alps,
and all of these great mountains that are
such a tremendous creation.
We know when we stand before them, we
are, we stand in awe,
right?
These
mountains will turn into dust, and they will
disappear.
They will disappear. So everything you know will
change.
As Allah says, when the earth
and the heavens will change and transform into
something else you don't know, you're not familiar
with.
Why? Because the day of judgement is not
like this day.
We feel comfortable in our surroundings,
with what we are familiar with.
We become sort of entrenched in that in
our environment, comfortable in it,
happy with it,
and that includes,
again,
physical landmarks, that includes social norms, that includes
people, that includes system and systems and everything
around us. That's how we usually this is
the foundation that we stand on
to build something in our life. You know,
we understand the environment.
We understand
points of leverage in the environment. We understand
challenges. Then we plan our life based on
this. Right?
So people, for example, who go for a
job, people they study or they, at least
they get an idea of the job market.
Right? And that's why they that's one of
the main reason why they study a specific
subject.
And,
also, they're thinking or they are they believe
that they will get a good job based
on this. So, again, these are the surroundings.
This is how you plan for your for
life. This is how
you can somehow
try to figure out how the future looks
like so you can make the best adaptation
or make the make your best adaptation or
make the make your best plan.
People who do business, the same thing.
People in every walk of life, all all
walks of life, they would actually do the
same. You you you study the environment,
you establish yourself in that environment, and then
you build on it.
Allah
says, all of the environments that you are
familiar with, all everything you know is just
gonna be
removed.
It will disappear.
And now you have, you're dealing with a
situation you literally have no relationship to, no
experience with. You know nothing about this day.
So this is why you are baffled, you
are confused,
you are desperate, you're lost, you don't know
what to do.
That's the day of judgment.
So,
everything you know is gonna change. Even the
earth itself and the heavens, as you know
them, are gonna change. They won't be the
same. So there is nothing that is recognizable
for you on that day. Nothing at all.
You are left to yourself. Imagine, let's say,
just give us a simple analogy.
Imagine you wake up
in a place
you've never seen before,
and you've never been exposed to that place,
you've never seen it, you don't know what
to make out of it, right?
And you see people and they speak a
language you don't understand, you will get confused.
You will be like,
snatched from the reality that you know. And
this is, psychologically, this is very shocking.
So imagine on the day of judgement what's
gonna happen. Everything you know is just gonna
change. It's gonna be different.
Mountains turned turned into dust.
Again here is a classification. You humans
will be divided into 3 categories.
Here means pairs. Right? It's used for marriage,
for partners in marriage,
And it's used as well for pairs. And
it's also used for groups.
You know, bring
the disbelievers
and their likes
as wajahum. The people who are like them
bring them together as one group.
Okay.
So
that's what the word
mean.
You were
divided into 3
groups. 3 groups of people.
Allah starts with the people of Aliamin, of
the right hand.
And this shows the connection in Islam, subhanAllah,
between the right hand and good things,
and the connection between
the left hand and evil things. So Aisha
mentioned that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
The prophet SAW Alaihi Wasallam loved to start
his affairs or to engage with his affairs
using his right hand.
And the commentators of the hadith said,
except with the things that have to do
with engaging with
impurities
or with najasa. For example,
you enter the masjid with your right foot,
you enter the washroom with your left foot,
You clean yourself with what, after using the
washroom, with your left hand not your right
hand.
For ashamu because there is something about 'aliamin'
about the right hand, there is something about
it. It has to do with the fitrah
as well. We humans know that by fitrah.
This is why we eat with the right
hand as well, not with the left hand.
Shaitin, the devils, they eat with the left
hand,
and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
said to a person who was eating with
his left hand
that, Shaitaan eats with you. Shaikhin eats in
that way with the left hand.
The people of the right hand,
and what do you know about those people?
How
blessed they are?
So Allah praises them. Then Allah says, 'al
mashama'
is a 'shimal'
which is the left
A Shemal.
So there is a Shemal and a Shemal.
What's the difference? Linguistic,
point here.
A Shemal is what?
Which direction?
North. North. A Shamal
is left. They left. A Shamal. There's another
word for 'ashimal' as well in the Arabic
language which is
less common
Just a point of benefit geographically as
well. You know the early Muslims,
I would say when I say early, I'm
talking about the first few 100 years, let's
say.
They had some maps of the world.
They drew some maps of the world. One
of the most famous is the map of
Al Idrisi,
right? The map of Al Idrisi
a Tunisian scholar
Al Idrisi
And interestingly,
the map actually, look it up.
Look it up, Google it and see.
Interestingly,
the North,
for example, so talking about North Africa, right?
What we call today North Africa, right, it
was mainly in the center.
Africa is to the north of this, not
to the south.
So, it was turned around.
European maps
turned around the maps that they found among
the Muslims.
The Muslims, what we call today north was
south.
And what we call today South was North.
So Europe was in the South.
Okay. So look it up. It's it's interesting
because by the way,
this is a power tactic as well.
This is a power tactic.
Okay so
and the people of the left hand,
on left hand side
and Allah says like 'woe to those people.'
Then the 3rd group so these are 2
groups. 3rd group Allah says
and those
that come as the foremost.
What what did the translation how did the
translation
Foremost. Foremost? Okay. The foremost.
The ones who are ahead of everyone else.
Those are the ones that are the closest
to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala
You will find them mentioned in the Quran
a few times.
Sabikun, again, are the foremost the ones that
are ahead of everyone else. Al Muqarrabun, the
ones that are closest to Allah Subhanahu
and
they are they are foremost in this life
because
they always rush to good deeds.
They always rush to good deeds before everyone
else.
They surpass everyone. They leave everyone behind them
because of their devotion, their dedication, and their
sincerity. And when we are talking about, you
know, good things,
remember we're not just talking about external actions.
We don't want this obsession with this
this kind of obsession
with
external actions.
External actions are important,
but
we have emphasized them, we've become obsessed with
them to the point that we have
literally, like, we have canceled the actions of
the heart, and these are the most important.
Muslim scholars are agreed the most important actions
are the actions of the heart.
And all of the acts of worship that
you know that are visible,
most of them, and we mentioned that many
times, but bear with me. It's important to
repeat.
The Quran itself repeats because we want to
drive the point home and it's a reminder
as well
that the actions that you see are visible.
Most of
them, most of
their
fabric is hidden, is in the heart. Salah,
siyam,
hajj,
zakah.
The biggest part of these actions is actually
in the heart,
is in the heart.
Okay so
so 3 groups of people Ashabul Yameen,
and
What does Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tell us
about those people?
They are in the Gardens of
Bliss
and in the highest places, Thulatum
Minal Awaleen.
So they are
a fairly big group from the early
generations.
So that refers to the followers
of all of the Prophets and Messengers who
were Muslim,
who remained true to the message of those
Prophets and Messengers,
and then after
the sending of Prophet Muhammad
his followers.
So among his followers, you will have
the most amount of asabikhun.
So those asabikhun, they are in the highest
ranks in paradise.
They are in the highest ranks in paradise.
Ibn Ummayim speaks extensively about the structure of
paradise, and he mentions
that
are in the highest ranks.
The rest of Jannah
is filled by Ashabul Yamin.
So
So among the companions
they're going to be
a considerable
amount of people or a considerable percentage.
Then Allah says, which we are going to
read now, and
few
from among
the later generations.
And that shows
that,
there is a merit for the early generations
of Islam,
and there are many reasons for that.
There is a merit.
There is a merit, and we are just
trying to catch up. We're just trying to
follow in their footsteps. Okay. Let's continue.
Those who are close to Allah are the
elite among humankind.
They will be seated on well crafted couches.
That is couches that are in inlaid with
gold and silver, pearls and jewels, and other
adornments that no one knows except Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala.
Reclining on them, that is on those couches
sitting at ease and comfortably,
steady and
firm, facing one another because of their purity
of heart and good manners
and the harmony among them.
That is there will be there there will
circulate among the people of paradise serving them
and meeting their needs young boys who are
exceedingly handsome and elegant
as if they are pearls carefully guarded,
that is concealed and not exposed to anything
that could change them. They are created to
live forever, never growing older or changing.
They will circulate among them with vessels of
drink, with cups. The word translated here as
cups refers to a vessel that has no
handle.
And jugs, the word translated here as jugs,
refers to a vessel that has that does
have a handle.
And glasses filled from a flowing spring of
wine, that is of delicious wine that will
not cause any side effects to the one
who drinks
it, which will not cause any headache or
cause their heads to hurt as the wine
of this world does to the one who
drinks it, or intoxication,
of delights that have earthly counterparts will have
no negative side effects at all. As Allah
says elsewhere,
in which there are rivers of water forever
fresh, rivers of milk of which the taste
never changes,
rivers of wine delightful to those who drink
it, and and rivers of honey, pure and
clear.
Here, Allah mentions the wine of paradise and
states that it has none of the negative
side effects that are found in this world
along with fruits of their choice, that is
whatever they choose and find appealing, and whatever
their souls desire of all kinds of delicious
fruits,
they will acquire it in the most perfect
manner,
and meat of birds that they may desire,
that is of every type of birds and
any type of meat they want, grilled or
cooked in other ways.
Okay. Let's continue.
That is they will have fair companions with
big
beautiful eyes. The word refers to a beautiful
woman whose eyes are lined with,
and the word refers to huge and beautiful
eyes.
Beautiful eyes in the female is one of
the greatest characteristics of beauty
as if they are pearls carefully guarded, That
is as if they are pure elegant white
pearls
concealed from people's gaze and from the wind
and sun. The color of which is one
of the most beautiful of colors and in
which there is no defect at all.
This is how the Hur and rain are.
They have no defects at all, and in
fact, they are perfect in their attributes and
beautiful in their description.
No matter how you look at them, you
will find not anything but what is pleasing
to the onlooker.
That bliss which is prepared for them is
a reward for what they used to do.
Just as their deeds were good, Allah has
made their reward good, and he will grant
them triumph and bliss.
That is in the gardens of delight, they
will not hear any idle talk. In that
place, there will be nothing that is of
no benefit and no words that are sinful,
but only the salutation,
peace, peace.
That is, they will only hear good words,
for that is the abode of the good,
and there will be nothing in it but
everything that is good.
This is indicative of the good manners of
the people of paradise when they address one
another, and that it will be the best
and most pleasing of speech
that is most free of idle and sinful
talk. We ask Allah for His grace.
Okay. So this is a description of what
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala promised.
Allah describes and gives us a snippet if
you like of what they're going to receive
in Jannah
and what you get
in Jannah
is literally
as Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says in
and they had
different meanings for one of those meanings of
this verse is that
they are given what they recognize from this
dunya, but the prophet
says,
there is
no similarity
between
what is in jannah and what is here
except the name.
So the fruits, the only similarity between the
fruits of this life and the fruits of
jannah is just the name. That's the only
common thing.
They are a completely different reality over there.
The same thing applies to everything in Jannah.
The the shade, the trees, the blessings, the
food, everything.
It's just something that you can only recognize
the name of it, you can't recognize the
reality. Why? Because you have never been exposed
to this reality,
You've never seen it. It is something way
beyond that. This is why the prophet
said,
In jannah, there is
what no eye has ever seen,
no ear has ever heard even the sounds.
The nature of sounds, it's just something else.
And what
no
human mind has ever thought of,
not only like things
that you wish for or things that you
dream of,
no, things you never even thought of.
Why? Because you don't even know that something
like this exists. That's jannah.
So Allah mentions some of the details
about their, again,
their their seats,
their dwellings,
and about
their servants, for example.
And why their servants.
And this is something, subhanAllah, that was common
among humans, but then it was removed. In
recent times, it
is no longer there.
In the Arab culture and many other cultures,
you know, the
younger ones in the house,
the younger ones in the house, especially like
the boys,
they were the ones who are who are
in charge of welcoming the guests
and entertaining the guests.
So they were the ones, and they they
would actually take some responsibility in the house.
And this was considered something that is very
comforting for the parents.
Now they would call it child
abuse.
They'd call it child abuse. But It's actually
preparation for the child,
preparing them for life to start to take
responsibility from a young age. We know from
the Sira of the Prophet SAW Alaihi Wasallam
when he was
with his nursing mother, Harima SAWHdiya
that he was, what, 3 years old, 4
years old? And with his brother,
like the son of Harima Sadia, they used
to what?
Take care of the sheep for the whole
day.
And that built them from a young age,
gave them a sense of responsibility,
not just playfulness.
Not just playfulness.
We a lot of us are wasting our
kids.
We are setting them up for a lot
of disappointment,
and we are setting their foot on the
wrong path for the most part thinking, oh,
no, I want to be kind. I want
to give my child what my parents didn't
give me.
You know, but your generosity, your kindness
towards your child is not
by giving.
Many times it's by withdrawing.
Many times it's by the responsibility
you offer them, the training that you offer
them.
Don't deny your children the necessity
to handle life from a young age.
Otherwise, they will be shocked by life. Why
do we have generations now that are so
resentful and disappointed with life?
They don't want to do anything. They don't
want to,
again, it's it's hard for them to socialize
beyond their immediate circle.
They don't wanna get out and do anything.
It's all antagonistic with the world, right? It's
it's all about me winning.
Why? Because they can't they can't coexist with
anything else in the world or with anyone
else in the world. Why?
Because they were not given an opportunity
to develop these faculties from a young age.
And there is something about all creatures,
there are gifts and talents
that if you do not
offer them
content, let's say, or a good healthy environment
you would lose them for good
So an example from the animal kingdom
I read that, I haven't done that, I've
read that, so I'm assuming it's a scientific
it was a scientific thing. They said, 'If,
when a kitten is born,
if
you block or put a plaster on its
eyes, like tape its eye, its eye, one
of its eyes,
I'm not sure for how many days.
Maybe
10 days, 2 weeks, or maybe a little
more.
So you don't expose the eye to any
light or anything else to see. So the
eye doesn't function.
Then you remove that tape. The eye is
blind for life.
The eye is blind for life.
And there are many gifts, many aspects of
the human life and the human potential
that if you
do not offer the person the opportunity for
these talents to grow
and to be activated.
They probably die for good. And we don't
know about them.
We don't know about them. Why? Because we
don't have another reality to compare ourselves to.
The other realities we just read about them.
And you
you don't know
you can't document everything
in the life of the people of the
past. There were many things that were rule
of thumb, you it doesn't occur to anyone
to write anything or document them. Right? They
would only document
the outstanding events, things that really stand out.
Right?
Or the main
the big events,
but not the day to day happenings that
are common and they're taken for granted.
They didn't know that there would come some
generations
that would have no clue about some of
the things that were just the norm at
their time.
So there
was this thing about
exposing your child to a level of necessity.
So they can start to get a taste
of life and they can start to learn
from a young age how to handle themselves,
how to handle disappointment,
how to handle
denial,
rejection,
how to
handle difficulty
and challenges
and inability,
sometimes incapacity.
When we only expose them to that at
a later age,
it becomes massive. They lack a lot of
the necessary skills that would help them maybe
as teenagers
navigate the difficult life that they have to
deal with. And then as adults.
And then this becomes generational.
And then we have problems.
And one of the biggest issues is when
we, who have grown up in this
skewed reality,
unfortunately,
We wanna compare ourselves to past generations,
and
we are puzzled why some things don't make
sense.
The modern life is drastically different in some
ways
from the past.
So, again, just back to this verse, it
was common among
many
cultures to train their kids, and it was
a source of pride for them, and a
source of it was a means to train
their kids and their children to to
like, the the girls would would,
again, be trained to be
women, to take responsibility.
And this is why they could marry at
a young age. They could marry
at a young age, and they could take
care of their home and their children. And
they they had the knowledge.
They had the generational knowledge handed down to
them. Then they had the support,
the network of
mentors around them,
and helpers, and social, the powerful social network.
It was never like today a woman would
have to deal her children, with her children,
handle her children by herself.
It's it's very difficult. In the past, it
was like the whole
social environment around them, the family, the extended
family around them. There was a lot of
helping hands, and all of them were experts
at different levels of expertise.
And it provided a very rich social environment,
and they're very healthy.
In general,
with the boys,
again, they were exposed to that social life
from a young age, so they could handle
themselves,
gathering, and they would understand their response, and
they would understand their
gathering,
and they would understand their responsibility
and a lot of the rules of interaction.
And that would be embedded. It's not like
knowledge they can write about or they can
theorize about. It's something as when you ride
a bicycle, you don't know the physics of
that. Right? It's just
visceral muscle
memory. Right? The same thing for them.
That's how you build expertise in life. It's
the things that you can't talk about, but
you know.
You know in your
in your in your in your gut. You
know those things. You've internalized them. There's no
need to theorize about them. That's what gives
the advantage, a lot of the advantage in
life.
Because
they don't become a mental or intellectual burden,
this type of knowledge. Oh, I have to
revise this.
I have to review it. I have to
remember that. I forgot about that. No. It's
all embedded. It's become part of you, and
it's it's there ready for you when you
need it.
That's the power of building that kind of
character.
So, again, this was a very common thing
for them, and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives
the people of Jannah this kind of thing.
These are the little children so beautiful
and they are the ones who serve them
and and they would become a source of
pride for them. Again, this is one some
explanation that is given by some,
of them of al Sirin.
Then Allah describes again the cups, the jugs,
and the kind of drink that they drink.
Again, there's no evil. In Jannah, there's no
evil. There's no intoxication.
Intoxication
is evil. The removal
of reason
and judgment
is evil, so it's not gonna be in
jannah. So the khamr in jannah, the wine
in jannah, is not intoxicating.
Same with fruits,
the the meat of birds,
and their spouses.
The spouses there are the most beautiful.
And the
the prophet was asked about
people who are married.
Will they be together in Jannah? If they
are if they both make it to Jannah,
yes.
And his wife will be
the most beautiful
of
the whole lane
for him. And they will be at the
top. She would be at the top.
Now I heard this, I'm not sure if
it's true. One sheikh was given this, was
talking about that when
husband and wife both enter Jannah,
then they would be together in Jannah.
And some of the audience was questioning the
Sheikh, Sheikh, please say something else.
Let's get another chance.
So I hope insha'Allah
none of us is like this. May Allah
gather us with our spouses in jannah and
our families. Ameenia Rabbi.
One of the most outstanding things about the
description of jannah, people think again it's what?
The,
the spouses,
it's the food,
it's the clothing,
or the seats,
and the furniture, whatever. But look at what
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
says.
Allah
says They don't hear there any indecency,
any words of evil.
And the law mentions this as what? As
a blessing.
As something that raises the quality of life
in Jannah.
Because when the heart is pure,
a lie
injures it.
Evil speech
causes damage to the heart.
So the hearts of the people of Jannah
are pure,
so nothing blemishes the beauty of their hearts.
Nothing even, like,
affects
negatively
the purity and the peace of the hearts.
No evil.
No harm whatsoever. And we know it. We
know it. Sometimes, like, a person throws a
word, and it keeps you,
upset
for weeks sometimes. Right?
Or if you're in an environment where people,
you know,
are quite pernicious, and they say bad things,
without them doing any physical harm,
It becomes very very taunting to be in
that kind of environment, very painful. You just
wanna leave.
We call it today psychological,
But it's harmful to the soul.
It's harmful to the person.
So, in jannah there is nothing like that.
So anyone who's thinking, you know, in Jannah
I can do
mischievous things, bad things. In Jannah I can
get what I want.
In Jannah, you won't think about that because
you would only enter Jannah when you are
pure.
As we mentioned previously, in the day of
judgment Allah brings all evil, puts it together
and it's in the hellfire.
And all good
in the creation, in humans will be in
Jannah.
There's no mixing. In this life, good and
evil are mixed up together. You find them
together.
In jannah, no.
No one enters jannah with an atom's weight
of evil in their being. It has to
be removed either through forgiveness
or through punishment.
You have to be cleansed fully.
So in Jannah, Allah says,
Not even I like learn evil idle talk.
What is idle talk?
Just say something that has no benefit, not
even that. Even this is not in Jannah.
Everything that is being said is just good
and beautiful and graceful.
'Illaqeel and salam and salam.' Either it's the
word 'salam' and it's the whole concept of
'salam and peace.' And look at the people
in Jannah Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says about
them.
That
What what do you think the people of
Jannah are gonna do when they are enjoying
all the blessings in Jannah? What do you
think the sweetest
thing that they would engage in?
In all of these blessings,
all of these wonderful
gifts that we know nothing about
except for the name,
they are beyond that. They are beyond what
we can imagine.
What do you think people of Jannah,
what kind of speech do they engage in
That tops it up.
Yes, remembrance of Allah.
That is the sweetest thing the people of
Jannah
experience
in their
day to day life.
Their words, their actions, their supplication
Their greetings, Salam. Peace.
I mean, they complete any kind of conversation.
They close it. They seal it. Or any
kind of speech with what?
And it's so so we have this part
of Jannah we have it we have it
in this dunya, but how many of us
are tapping into this?
How many of us are tapping? The people
of Jannah.
The people of Jannah, to maximize their enjoyment,
they engage in dhikr.
This is part of jannah that we have
in this life.
How much are we tapping into this?
The opposite of dhikr is rafla,
Being absent, absent minded, heedless
of Allah, not thinking of Allah. Why are
we all doing dhikr of the dunya?
Most of our speech is dhikr of the
dunya. When we are talking about
most of our conversations are dhikr. Dhikr of
the dunya.
That's why dhikr of Allah is not making
its way to our
hearts.
Because that place, that space of the heart
is occupied
with the dhikr of the duniya,
thoughts of the duniya,
attachment to the dunya, you
know craving of the dunya.
That's why the remembrance of Allah is not
making its way to our hearts and that's
why we're not experiencing the sweetness,
the beauty, we're not experiencing a glimpse of
paradise
here on earth.
Here on earth.
Okay. Now we move on to
Asha
Then Allah speaks of the bliss of those
on the right. Those on the right, how
blessed will be those on the right.
That is how great their status and how
high they're standing.
They will be amidst thornless lote trees.
That is all thorns and harmful branches will
be will have been removed from them and
replaced with good fruits.
One of the qualities of the lote tree
is that it gives cool shade and offers
comfort.
And banana trees lead in with fruit. The
banana tree is well known. It is a
tree that produces delicious fruits
and flowing water that is abundant water coming
from springs, meandering rivers, and gushing water,
and fruit in abundance, never ceasing and never
restricted.
That is, it is not like the fruits
of this world, which sees from time to
time and may be restricted, that is difficult
to acquire for those who want them. Rather,
the fruits of paradise will be constantly available
and close at hand so that a person
may easily take them
whether he is standing, sitting, or lying down.
And raised couches that is raised up off
the ground. These couches will be made of
silk, gold,
pearls, and such things as no one knows
except Allah.
We shall indeed have created them, their spouses,
anew and perfect. That is we shall have
created the wives of the people of paradise
in a form other than their earthly form,
perfect and not subject to death,
and shall have made
them virgins, that is both young and old.
This general wording includes both the
and the woman who lived in this world.
This description of being virgins will be constant
and that this and that will be their
state at all times
just as they will remain loving and of
equal age at all times.
The word translated here as loving refers to
the woman who is affectionate and tries to
endear herself to her husband with nice words,
beautiful appearance,
soft talk, beauty, and love.
When she speaks, she enchants the listener who
wishes that her words would never end, especially
when she sings pleasant tunes in a delightful
voice.
And when her husband looks at her good
manners and gentle characteristics,
his heart is filled with joy and happiness.
When she moves from one place to another,
that place is filled with her beautiful fragrance
and light.
That includes
behavior when engaging in *.
Of equal age, the age in question is
33, which is the prime age, the end
of youth.
Their wives will be loving and of equal
age, living in harmony and getting along with
one another,
content and pleasing to others,
not grieving nor causing grief, rather they will
bring joy to the heart and be a
delight to the eyes.
For those on the right, that is they
are prepared for them. A multitude of those
of old and a multitude
from those of later times.
That is this category of those on the
right will be a large number from the
earlier generations and a large number from the
later generations.
Okay. So this is a description of what
the people of
mean,
and again these are not at the top
of paradise,
this is the general fork of paradise,
this is the general fork of paradise
and, Ibn Al Qayyim says that in Jannah
people will be mainly two levels.
Those and
the rest are
And those are different levels as well.
There are sub levels.
In every category there are some sub levels.
And,
again, that's a description of what they are
going to experience. And, again, what we know
from this is just the names.
What we can relate to is just the
names. But the reality
is way more pleasant, way more delightful, way
more beautiful. And why does Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala mention these things?
People think some people think, oh, it's my
just to move the desires.
No. The real thing in Jannah is to
be close to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
But this is the cherry on top.
This is more that what Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala offers you, as a blessing from himself,
as good treatment
from himself, as a gift. But the reality
of Jannah, the most beautiful thing about Jannah
is that you are close to Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala and you have earned Allah's
acceptance,
Allah's good pleasure.
That's it.
That's the biggest thing, that's the sweetest, best
thing for the people of Jannah, ever.
And this is why their meeting with Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, is the one thing that
they look forward to,
above all else.
All of the rest
is just an answer to the needs of
their human nature, because humans don't use, don't
lose their human nature in Jannah, but it's
just elevated.
It is just
elevated.
Okay. I think we should stop here, take
a few questions and then we will continue
in sha Allah next week, Kadin and Natanah.
Something
okay. Something I wanted to say at the
beginning, but we said let's keep it for
later.
Sometimes
you would hear, a hadith
that,
if you read Surat Al Waqqyah, you become
rich. If you read it every day, you
become rich.
Alright. If you want to be rich, read
Surah Al Waqqyah everyday.
Right?
The Hadith is not authentic.
The Hadith is not authentic from the Prophet
SAW.
Does Surah Al Waqqaih have this impact?
Does it have this impact?
For many people, they've probably read it, and
they noticed afterwards,
after some time, a difference. So maybe it's
the placebo effect.
And maybe, maybe with some people Allah makes
it work.
There are a lot of secrets in the
Quran. There is something called that,
again, some
worshipers and scholars
talk about it, they call
it But it's a matter of disagreement among
scholars. Al Mujarr Rabat, what's a Mujarr Rabat?
Things that you have experimented
with.
Things you have experimented with. So a certain
surah, you read it and you notice a
certain effect,
or a certain benefit.
If you read it repeatedly.
There are something called fada'il al sua, the
blessings or the merits of specific surahs, like
the prophet says whoever reads
Suratul Mulk everyday,
he will save himself or she will save
herself from the punishment of the grave.
The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam says,
The taking up of Surat Al Baqarah is
a blessing,
and the magicians,
the those who deal with black magic and
evil,
cannot handle it.
From the humans and the jinn.
So this is why it's a powerful protection
for humans against the impact of shayateen
and jinn. The more are we that,
the prophet says,
No one has ever sought Allah's protection
in anything better than the
So Surah Al Waqah, the hadith about it,
that it provides wealth or it helps a
person become rich, is not authentic.
But
it may be sometimes
that some surahs have an impact, they work
for some people, and they don't work for
other people.
So this is why it's not safe just
to say something if it works for you.
Someone says, I tried it and it works
for worked for me. Well maybe it works
for you, but it doesn't work for someone
else. Someone says, oh, then the hadith must
be authentic. No. The hadith is not authentic.
But,
for
some people might read Surah Al Waqqah and
they might get rich afterwards.
And some people might read it, and they
never get rich.
What's the point?
So what is the best approach? It's to
read the Qur'an continuously.
Build a relationship with the Quran all the
time. All the time. Surahs that have a
special merit, like surat almulk, read it every
day. As the prophet said, it protects you
from adab alqabr.
Alwaawithat,
ayatulkursi.
These are things that you should read every
day.
I would say other than that, unless there
is a special need for something, so on.
Like those who are affected by black magic,
Surat Al Baqarah, they will need to repeat
it over and over and over again and
reflect on it.
Generally speaking, some things might work with a
person but
might not work with another person. Some people
say, Oh Surah Yaseen,
when I read it, there is something something
happens.
It might work with some people, but not
with other people.
Okay, So with these things that are in
mujjad labaat that people know from experience, people
notice from experience,
you're very cautious. Don't attribute
anything
definitively
to the prophet, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, or
to Allah subhanahu wa sallahu alaihi wa sallam,
about the merit of a sullah,
and it doesn't have to apply universally if
it's just something that worked for someone.
And this is why what happens sometimes people
say, oh, this tikr I did this tikr,
and this is what it gave me. This
is what I got from it.
We might not do the same with others.
So sometimes,
due to your unique circumstances,
something works for you. It might not necessarily
work for others. Okay, questions?
Good. So as Saabikun, is there anything that
sets them apart from others?
From the name itself,
they're always the foremost there, they're always
doing their best
in terms
of they offer their best. From their hearts,
most important,
from their hearts, their sincerity, their love, their
devotion, their fear of Allah, their hope in
Allah, their trust
in Allah,
and all of these acts of worship that
originate in the heart, and then
you know, are reflected outward
in the form of acts of worship.
So
that's the title itself is what defines them.
We don't know of any specific definition that
there are special acts. It's just that they
do better than others.
They outperform
others in worshiping Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, but
not with a focus on externalities.
Because we know the famous statement
about Abu Bakr
I think one of the tabi'in said,
Abu Bakr did not,
surpass or
Yeah. Get ahead of everyone among the companions
due
to too many or so many prayers and
fasts. Although Abu Bakr
prayed a lot and fasted a lot,
but that was not the point that set
him
or placed him ahead of everyone else.
But for something that
was very well established in his heart, something
took root in his heart, the level of
iman. So the more taqwa, the more iman,
the more
true devotion,
the more likely a person will be from
a servant.
That's it.
There's no special like
anything special about that. And that would be
these are the awliya,
the close friends of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And usually, most most of those people are
people who strive to learn and to do
tizqiyyah
properly. Because what is Islam other than
tizqiyyah and
Yeah. And is not just purify your heart
in the common common,
understanding of people. It's
the
is
generosity
is All of that. Sadaqa is tazkiyah.
Yeah. Meaning the acts of Bir, the acts
of righteousness.
Yeah. So that that that would be it.
The level of devotion, the level of iman,
the level of hard work that they put,
the sacrifice they make for the sake of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. That's what sets them
apart.
Yeah.
Let me just check if the sisters then
we'll get back to the brother. Sisters,
the light is right in my eyes, so
I don't see anything.
No hands up?
Okay.
Yes. The brother over there.
No. No. Sorry. The Quran as we know
is what? No. The the way, like, the
way the order because it was compiled. My
understanding was compiled.
Was compiled when and how? It was after
the product.
When?
Like, I don't know. It was like, they
said,
I don't know exactly the time, but my
understanding was for 5 minutes.
Okay.
So how do you think the order at
the time of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam wants? That's what the question is. Oh,
that's what you're asking about? Yes. That's what
I'm asking. Okay. Cool.
So no. The the the the order of
the Quran,
the companions at the time of
Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu
put it in a book
like in one physical
book
during the time of Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu.
But the order of the Quran was always
the same at the time of the Prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
So in what order did the companions put
it in the book,
in the physical book? The same order that
the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam would read
those surahs and the same order that the
companions would read those surahs as they picked
it up from the prophet So
the order was there.
It was always there. The companions, for the
most part, they knew it. They recognized the
order
and they understood it. But it was just
put in a physical form during the khilaf
of Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu.
Cool?
That's what happened. Right? Because when we say
compiled now, there's a lot of room for
interpretation what they mean by compiled and this
and that? So it's good to avoid these
terms that have more than one meaning. You
know? They could be confusing. Yeah.
Yeah.
Abandoned source of alcohol.
No. Generally speaking generally speaking,
the the most
cited number as to
how often you should read the Quran not
to be someone who has abandoned the Quran
in general
is 30 days.
Some
stretch it to 40 days.
Right? But 30 days is the most quoted
by or mentioned by
companions Tabiheen
and early scholars. So it's better to stick
to 30
at least. If you read Surat Al Baqarah
once a month, you're not you haven't abandoned
it.
But we would say for someone who's afflicted
with some impact,
like
some
jinn issues, sharpeen, etcetera etcetera.
They might wanna emphasize more, like, read more
Surat Al Baqalad
because now they need
medicine,
medication. That's a special case.
Yeah.
Yeah. Any other questions,
sisters?
Brothers?
Yes.
So dhikr of the people of Jannah, everything.
Now okay.
There's something we need to clarify.
We
are caught up in words
that we lose realities sometimes.
The terms, sometimes,
become more of a prison that they hold
us back from the meanings,
Although the words are supposed to convey meanings.
So the whole concept of dhikr
and du'a.
2 important words,
and When Allah says,
How would we understand it?
Generally speaking.
Mufrasil lahu din sincerely.
Make the religion sincere. What is Fadu'Allah? How
do we understand it? Give me answers.
Call upon Allah, make dua.
Faderullah means to worship Allah.
Why?
Because when you are worshiping Allah, you are
requesting
for Allah to accept you.
Why
are you praying?
For Allah to accept you, right?
To accept you this prayer from you.
You are turning to Allah,
and
you are requesting something through your actions, through
your attitude.
That's what dua. So this is why the
scholars
say a Dua or Dua or Dua or
Dua or Dua or Ibadah.
Dua is 2 times. Dua
you ask Allah, you call upon Allah for
something. Allah give me this.
Dua
of worship.
All of your affairs, all of the acts
of worship are, are an instance of request.
You're turning to Allah asking for something. For
acceptance, for forgiveness,
for guidance, for for
etcetera.
How? Not necessarily in direct speech, but in
your actions,
in everything you do.
So that's dua. The same thing applies to
dhikr. Many people think dhikr is just the
tongue, the tongue, the tongue.
No.
Dhikr means your heart is mindful of Allah.
What does it mean to be mindful of
Allah? Just say, Oh Allah, Allah, Allah. Just
keep Allah in your mind. No.
When when you are mindful of Allah, your
heart is preoccupied with Allah.
What happens?
When the heart
when when again, when when the heart is
filled with
the remembrance of Allah.
It moves to Allah with love, with fear,
with hope,
etcetera.
That's dhikr. People think dhikr is just a
cognitive
thing. Keep that in your mind. Allah, Allah,
Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah.
A person in the street who needs help.
And
you are a person who's mindful of Allah.
What does it mean? It means you know
what you are doing in this life. You
know that Allah created you. This is how
This is the story in the background of
your mind that guides all of your feelings,
actions, thoughts,
decisions, everything.
So this is how you're moving. It's not
like, okay, let me just remember, Allah created
me, he placed me in this world in
order to make it back for him. That's
technical. That's not how This is not human
nature.
Human nature, when someone is obsessed, let's say
someone
is obsessed with
business
And making, let's say, a fortune.
Wherever they go, this story plays in their
mind and it colors everything around them. So
the way they behave is as an entrepreneur.
Right? Wherever they go.
They don't have to to sort of think
it up.
They don't have to
invite the thought and then based on that
work out how to how to behave. It's
embedded. It's internalized
that this is how they behave naturally.
So whenever there's an opportunity, they catch it.
Not necessarily very
conscious, but it's just
there there are there are so money conscious.
They're so profit conscious
that they are that they can locate any
opportunity
and
and weigh it up if it's if it
looks like a good a good way to
go or not. So the same thing, when
you remember Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, that means
the story is playing in your heart. I
don't say in your head, it's playing in
your heart all the time. Who you are?
What this world is? Who Allah is? And
every step you take in this life is
literally a step to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
So when you see someone in the street
needing help,
naturally, you don't have to think about it,
it's just
that's an opportunity for good.
Right?
And you don't have to remind yourself, oh,
and Allah loves this. So let me work
out a mathematical equation.
I should do this. Then you go and
no. It's just happened so intuitively, naturally.
If you if you're a person who remembers
Allah, that means you're the story of
this existence
is always playing in your heart. So
the way you perceive every situation around you
is through this story.
So how do you perceive a story or
a scene when someone needs help,
and you are just walking down the street?
You go and help them. You don't have
to
manufacture an intention. This is why people say,
If you do things without intention What do
you mean by without intention? Because if you
are mindful of Allah, everything you do has
intention already embedded in it. You've already done
the groundwork for intention.
You're already in it. You're always in a
state of intention. So when an opportunity comes
about,
it just it just acts out, it plays
out.
That's different. Right? That's the dhikr of Allah.
So when you see a person needs help,
you rush to help them
and that's an act of worship
for you because you are mindful of Allah.
If someone else who's not mindful of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala,
and they go and help, they didn't have
an intention, we don't know.
We don't know how much of intention they
had. So that's dhikr of Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala.
That's the dhikr of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
It's that you are mindful of Allah and
heart when your heart is mindful of Allah,
it's always moving towards Allah. We said, with
knowledge what comes after knowledge?
Knowledge gives rise to what?
Later on. Action comes later. We said there's
something before.
Yes, intention,
will.
The notion of Allah being in your heart
is not a passive thought
it's a very active thought
