Praise Allah
We send our peace and blessings to our
noble and beloved prophet Muhammad
And remind myself and yourselves
on this blessed day
of yawmuljumu'ah
and in this sacred month to fear Allah
the way you should be feared. As Allah
reminded us of this
when he said,
Brothers and sisters,
I
was standing
with a group of brothers before this khutba.
And as I, you know, I approach them
and we did our normal,
Jum'ah get together,
and salaams, and whatnot.
And I said a statement to them
that triggered their interest.
And I told them,
you know this month is haram. Right?
I said, haram.
Haram, you know,
brothers nowadays
they like dread that word.
Right? Especially when when they only hear it
when it's used to not do stuff that
they actually wanna do. Hey, by the way
that's haram. It is haram.
So like, even the month is haram? What
are you talking about? Like that's the title
of my khutba inshallah today.
Come and attend it.
I hope they're here. I don't see them.
They must have attended the first khutba.
So,
he said, What do you mean this month
is haram?
And Insha'Allah, this khutba I'm going to explain.
You see brothers and sisters,
Allah
when he created the heavens and the earth,
he created them with a divine system.
And with the heavens and the earth, Allah
created something
that is from our essence as human beings
which is
time. Time is something that is connected to
us.
As a matter of fact, a person can
define
him or herself with time
because
we are
but merely
years,
months,
days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
The moment
our ajal, our time is finished,
we will perish and cease to exist in
this world.
And we all know this.
So with it Allah created time and when
He created
time, he created it in a particular way.
And Allah tells us
how he created it in the Quran.
When Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said,
Indeed,
the number of months
by Allah
are 12 months
On
the day that he created
the heavens and the earth,
he decreed and deemed that a year would
be 12 months.
Yeah. From that long.
From them, from these 12, there are 4
months
that are
haram. Haram is the
combination
the the the plural of haram.
So there are 4 of these months that
are haram months.
It's not haram in the sense that, you
know, we don't eat
or drink anything in these months. We fast
in these months. No. No. No. No.
There's something else. These months have implications
that many of us
do not know of, or we live Because
we live in a time where we You
know, our calendars are Gregorian,
and the hutaba rarely talk about this subject.
But it's a very very important subject to
Allah.
And InshaAllah, through this khutba, I'm hoping to
shed light in this short khutba by the
way, To shed light on this very important
matter.
The Prophet
said in a hadith that's agreed upon in
Bukhari
and Muslim.
He said,
The
the year is 12 months.
Right?
So he said, from the year are 4
months that are haram,
that are from the ashwar al haram.
3 are consecutive
and the Rajab
of the tribe of Mudar. Mudar is a
tribe in Arabia.
And there's a reason why the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam
said that it is the month of Rajab
of Mudar.
And then
he said,
It's the mudar between the month of
the one that just passed, and which
is next month.
The month that we're in right now is
Rajab.
And it is
that month of the year
that stands alone. It's not next to any
consecutive month, it's not next to the al
kadah, the hija, or muharam. It's by itself
in the middle of the year.
So people
often neglect it and forget
its sacredness.
What is the sacredness of this month?
And why
is it this important?
And are we
as negligent
of these months as the people
that came before Islam?
As even they knew about
the sacred months.
Even the people in Jahiliyyah.
Before Islam,
from
the time of Ibrahim alayhis salam and Ishmael
alayhis salam all the way until the time
prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi salam,
The Arab tribes
of Arabia
in the vicinity of of Makkah, they all
knew about these months.
And during these months they would not fight.
They would not wage war.
They would not engage in certain business dealings
that are oppressive to others.
And this is from what was left from
the time of Ibrahim alaihis salam and passed
along.
But there's something that developed
throughout time just like they worshiped Allah alone,
and then
idolatry was introduced to them,
there's a concept called naseek
that was introduced as well.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala addressed this concept
of nasi in Surat At Tawbah.
And Allah addressed it. Why? Because
they were slipping up.
And Allah wanted to show us and tell
us
how important these sacred months are. And Allah
wanted to revive the sacredness
of these months in Islam and with Islam.
So he addressed them in the Quran in
a verse that is recited until the day
of judgement, a verse that is recited
by people that perhaps don't know what it
means, and people that do know what it
means,
and people that find these months sacred and
take it into consideration, and people that let
it pass as if it's any normal average
month.
Allah said,
That indeed nasi is
an increase in kufr.
See there's disbelief
but there's an increase in disbelief.
It's like Allah is saying, disbelief is there's
like level 1
but you wanna level it up, you wanna
go to disbelief max,
that's what nasi is.
Until the end of the eye.
So in this verse, Allah
is saying
that the this nasi is an increase in
kufr. What is nasi?
It's basically this practice that they did in
Jahiliyyah
by changing the months. So that one,
they when the month of Rajab came,
certain tribes
would say that, hey, we didn't see the
moon of Rajab. Rajab didn't come in yet.
So tomorrow we're going to wage war
against this tribe knowing that this other tribe
is not going to engage in any war
because
it's a month
it's a month that is sacred. And war
and is
haram in the month of
what in the 4 months that are haram.
So they would play around with the days.
They would play around with the days.
One tribe would say,
it's Rajab. The other tribe would say, it's
not. The one that says it's Rajab cannot
fight. And the one that says, it isn't
yet would go and wage war, and they
would you take advantage
of this concept
of sacred months.
And that's why Allah
said,
They ask you about the sacred months and
fighting in them.
Say to them, oh Muhammad
Say to them,
fighting in them
is indeed great. Meaning it's a great It's
it's not a good thing. It's a big
deal to fight during the sacred months.
And this is this ayah came down after
the people
of the the mushrikeen, the idolaters,
they accuse the Prophet Muhammad
of fighting during the month
of
during these months.
Right? During the the 4 sacred months of
of the year.
But the only thing the prophet
did
is engage in defensive warfare.
Because when he's attacked,
as a Muslim Allah gave
us
the ability, and the leeway, and the permission
to now fall into what the people in
Jahiliyyah fell into.
Do not be a slap over with this
nasi.
Do not allow them to exploit
the sacred month, and your faith, and your
belief in it,
to wage war against you, and to fool
and trick you. La.
You should prepare to defend yourself, and prepare
to fight even in the sacred month. But
only in defense,
not in offense of course.
And that's why when they said, Oh, you're
fighting.
We attacked and you were prepared.
We thought that you're Muslim. We thought that
you you abide by these the laws of
Ibrahim alaihis salam.
Then Allah
revealed this ayat
That tell them, okay, I'm fighting you but
what's bigger than fighting in the month,
the months of haram,
is
kicking
the people of Makkah out of its land,
and disbelieving
in Allah, and fighting
His Prophet. That's even bigger.
That's even bigger than engaging in defensive warfare.
So Allah
told us
about this month. What are these months?
And what are the implications of these months
on us today?
Insha'Allah
we're going to talk about that in briefly
in the second hutba. I ask Allah
to forgive us.
The first
implication
on us today of these sacred months
is that
a person
should not
engage
in any
anything that is oppressive towards others
as
any act of sin
in these sacred months is multiplied
in sin.
Any act of sin, any khatia is multiplied
during these months.
And it you know, some of the salaf
mentioned why.
And they said
that
Allah
gave humanity
a break during these months.
These sacred months,
if seen by everyone as sacred for
reasons
that
are probably beyond our perception.
Allah
that created time to begin with,
He is the one that decreed for the
months to be 12, and he decreed
for these 4 months
in the year,
and
to have
magnified
implications.
And that's why
directly
after the verse where Allah told us about
the months being 12, he said,
There's 4 months
that are haram. Do not wrong yourselves in
these months.
Do not commit sin in these months.
Do not oppress others in these months.
In these months, people
When
If we truly understood
that
these months are sacred and it's
they are haram, then we
will perhaps stop doing things that we are
used to doing.
Get rid of bad habits that we will
stop, that we that we developed
throughout the year. And Allah
from His
mercy and wisdom is that He created He
made rajab
in between months that are not haram.
Because we might slip up and forget ourselves,
and then in this month of rajab,
it's revived.
We're cautious,
we're watchful,
we make sure we know what we're doing,
what we're not doing because
every sin is magnified and multiplied.
Another
another benefit
that we get from this
is that
in the month of Rajab,
we are
separated by Ramadan
with 1 month and that's the month of
Shaban.
And this is why many
many of the salaf
used to say this profound saying that
Rajab
is the month where the seeds of Ramadan
are planted.
And shaban is where these seeds are watered.
And Ramadan is where
the fruit is harvested.
For indeed, the one who didn't plant the
seed
cannot harvest anything later.
And if the one plants the seed later,
will not harvest in time
for Ramadan.
So the preparation from for Ramadan
begins from right now.
The cautiousness,
the alertness
that we should have, the the the watchfulness
that we should that we should have from
now
is what is planting the seeds for Ramadan.
Now is the time to dust ourselves off,
and to start looking back at our mistakes,
and to start making resolutions and promises
so that when Ramadan comes we're ready.
Now is the time to start reviewing the
Quran.
It's not during Ramadan.
It's not a week before Ramadan.
We don't open the Quran on the 1st
day of Ramadan and start saying, Oh Allah,
let me brush up on my reading skills.
I forgot you know how to read or
I forgot so many surahs. Let me start
Let me start Or let me start praying
the sunnah from today on the 1st day
of Ramadan.
No.
The salaf
would use the sacredness of this month. Would
recognize it, understand it, and they would use
it to plant the seeds of Ramadan.
And that's why the there's no there's no
specific or worship
for the month of Rajab.
Some people ascribe certain things, certain salaas, and
certain days to fast. There isn't any of
that.
But Rajab,
we should just be aware
and watchful
of what we are doing.
Shaaban is where the Prophet
would fast most of it. So there's a
lot
of khair, a lot of ibadah associated with
Shaaban. But Ramadan
by Ramadan, we should be full throttle.
We should be going
ready
for ibadah,
ready for worship. And it all starts from
now, Insha'Allah
So we ask Allah in
this blessed month,
in this sacred month, in this haram month
of sha'ad, in this haram month of Rajab
to protect us from falling into sin.
We ask Allah to forgive us from any
sins that we fell into in this sacred
month. And we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
to forgive us for our heedlessness, or our
negligence,
or for our lack of knowledge of of
these sacred months. We ask Allah
to revive
His consciousness
in our hearts.
We ask Allah
to guide us to the truth, and to
keep us steadfast upon it, and to guide
our children, our offspring, our parents, our grandparents,
and our progeny until the day of judgement,
and keep them steadfast on the haqq. We
ask Allah
to alleviate the hardships
from the muslimeen
around the world. We ask Allah
to forgive us for the sins
of not
being not giving victory to our brothers and
sisters that are oppressed around the world, not
making enough dua for them, not providing enough
help for them. We ask Allah to forgive
us for this,
Fill in the rows in the back, inshallah.
Allahu Akbar.
Allahu
Akbar.
