many
brothers and sisters in Islam.
Today marks the first Juma
of the Islamic year.
The year 1445.
It's been 14 145 years since our beloved prophet muhammad
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
left Makkah
and went to Medina
as he was exiled
from persecution in Mecca, in the law permitted him to move to El
Medina where he established the first
place where Islam will rule and created the first model society
for Muslims until the Day of Judgment.
This year was marked by the Hijra the migration of the prophets of
Allah
Hollywood seldom.
Hijra means migration.
This mark, the beginning, and not the birth of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
and not the death of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam and not
when he received revelation on a salatu salam
none of that marked the beginning of this Namic year. But what
marked it was this pivotal incident in the history of Islam,
which was
an incident where
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the believers
had to give up the ultimate sacrifice. They had to leave their
families, they had to leave their businesses, they had to leave the
most beloved place to them, which was Mecca. The Maha God knew and
understood
that Mecca was the holiest place, and Mecca was the place where the
first house was built for Allah to be worshipped. They understood
this, but they had to leave all of it
and move to Medina, a place that wasn't known for its strong tribes
in the Arabian Peninsula, a place that wasn't
that they weren't accustomed to they didn't know too much about.
And a place that was inhabited with machinery kin, and your hood
with Jews and idolaters.
Some accepted Islam in it.
And as soon as Allah allowed it, they made hijra.
Brothers and sisters if
if the marking of
the Islamic calendar year began from hijra, and not the death or
life of anyone, this indicates to us that we are an OMA
that emphasizes on action that emphasizes on sacrifice that
emphasizes on perseverance that emphasizes on these pivotal
moments in the world and not the life or death or the sun being
eclipsed, or the earth, being shaken as people marked history
with many of these things. The year of the earthquake, the year
of the elephant, the year of the eclipse the year of the death of
this or the life of that no, we emphasize on action as an ummah.
And one thing that's worth remembering
is there's a few things. The first is that
the year begins with one of the four sacred months of the Islamic
year sha Allah, Al Mahara.
And as all of you know that the word Maha Rama is derived from the
word haram.
And the month that we are in is one of them are haram months,
which means it's, there's a hermit to it.
And doing you know what it means, is there anything any oppression
that is done any transgression, any wrongdoing during these
months,
or more, you know,
are heavier. They're not like doing them in other months. And
likewise, good deeds in this month are amplified and magnified as
well on the scales with Allah.
And this is why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would
be seen fasting a lot of this month.
And specifically, he would first the 10th day of the month, or the
day that we call yo Maha Shula, which is Friday in sha Allah a
week from now.
The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would fast that day.
There was a hadith narrated in Bukhari and Muslim
where the messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam came to El Medina
and this was narrated by Abdullah nobis. When he came to Medina,
he resided in it and then one day he found the Jews. And there were
three tribes of Jews in El Medina.
He found them on fasting and commemorating this day.
He asked them, Why are you fasting?
They said
This is a great day. This is the day that
Allah
saved Musa and Benny Israel. Moses and the sons of Israel from
frowned from the Pharaoh and his tyranny and oppression.
And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said a statement
that remains,
and is echoed until today a statement that this hotbar will be
about for its majority.
He on a salatu salam said, No.
Well, I will be mu Salman Khan. We are more rightful and deserving of
Musa than you. And then he started to fuss that day. So Allah Allah
wa salam, and he commanded the Sahaba to fest that day as well.
And as a matter of fact,
you know how now it's fasting is recommended. It's a sunnah.
But in the beginning of Islam before Ramadan was prescribed,
fasting, Ashura was actually Wajid and then later on was abrogated,
and became recommended.
So let's have actually had to first I showed up.
And when the Sahaba later on mentioned, the Rasul Allah they
fast the 10th day, should we fast like them? He said, No. First, the
ninth day and the 10th day.
And this was the last year SubhanAllah.
When he decided to first the ninth and 10th day, it was the last year
for him, Allah salatu salam, and he said, If Allah gives me life, I
will fest the ninth and 10th day, but he passed away before fasting
the Knights de la salatu, salam,
brothers and sisters.
We are more rightful and deserving of Musa than them.
What do what did they? Remember, in this day of Ashura?
What did they commemorate in this day of I showed up? This happened
to be another day of great sacrifice for one of the
messengers of Allah, a day where they passed the ultimate test a
day where it defined
where they were, and they entered into what they will be,
to become who they were destined to be. The Messenger of Allah Musa
alayhis salam. When he left Egypt after fleeing from the Pharaoh.
Allah described him as for how Raja min ha ha if any rock club,
he left it. While he was very fearful, he was scared.
And then, one he saw when he saw the light next to the mountain,
and he went to see what it is. Allah subhanho wa Taala spoke to
him for her Ramu cell cycle. Musa was so scared, he fell down and he
fainted. And then when he woke up Allah subhanho wa Taala told him
let off. Don't be scared.
And then Allah subhanaw taala gave him the message and told him go to
town for Indeed he is an oppressor and he said, Oh Allah, I fear that
they're gonna call me a liar. Oh Allah, I fear that they're going
to kill me. And all Allah, I fear that my tongue is not proficient
enough to deliver your message out.
There was a lot of fear in the story of Musa a sinner.
He wants to the frown he called him and then one frown.
When one frown, gathered, the magicians they threw their magic
before musalla in Salem, holding his staff. But before he through
his staff, Allah subhanaw taala said for Oh, just a fee in FCP for
that Musa he felt fear inside of him.
For Oh, just a feeling of see in his knifes, he felt fear.
So as he became a messenger and as he progressed in the message of
Allah, and has as he delivered it, the fear it began with him
fainting, and it started to be a concern. And then he started to
suck it in and and it kept it inside of him.
So fear was inside of him. And then he continued to give Dawa
until Allah subhanho wa Taala decreed for them to leave Egypt
and to go on.
Enter the blessings lands have a shot.
And when they went there,
the large sea was between them and where they were supposed to go for
our own and his army. We're following them with their weapons
and with everything they had, and Benny is thrown in with their
small numbers weaponless full of fear, leaving everything behind.
They're following Musa alayhis salam, they're questioning
everything he's saying, everything he's doing as that was their
nature, when they got to
when they got to the sea
Karla us harbor Musa in Allah mudra Kuhn,
the people of Belize royal, they told Musa that's it, we're
finished.
We see the armies behind us. They're already close the seas in
front of us, we have no boats, we can't swim. We're obviously all
good. But Musa alayhis salam at that point, he passed this exam.
He passed this exam, and he turned around to Benny asstra Eel
and in his first demonstration of complete dork cool and
fearlessness, from anything but Allah subhanho wa taala.
He said killer in no matter your A, B, C or D. He said no way Allah
is with me and he's gonna guide us.
Allah is going to God. Imagine
and that's what Allah subhanaw taala commanded him to strike the
seed with his stick, and it's split into two parts, and the
people have been in throwing made it and frown was drowned. And that
was the end of the story of frown and his oppression.
But that
that moment
of complete debacle, that moment of complete certainty that Allah
will not leave us alone is when
they decided the Jews of that time. And before that we're
fasting to commemorate and that moment is what the Rasul
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam commanded us to fast for and
commemorate as well. And not only that, but that also sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam told the Sahaba and I also hope that Allah
expatriates, the whole entire year passed of sins, for whoever fests
this one day of Ashura, which is going to be
this coming Friday inshallah a week from now. And Rasul sai
Sallam told us to compare it with
Tessa with the ninth so Thursday and Friday in sha Allah Thailand.
We are more rightful and deserving of Musa than them.
We are more rightful to celebrate this moment than them.
Which is why we do which is why Muslimeen marked the beginning of
their year with this.
With Mahara rom
SubhanAllah.
Time turned, and these things don't happen as coincidences.
Allah subhanaw taala shut, he decreed from haram
to be the first
of the first month of the Islamic calendar year and that was the
month Bani Israel we're running away from frown. And that was the
month where Musa alayhis salam was saved.
Brothers and sisters,
how can we not be more deserving of Musa than them when we are the
ones holding the covenant and carrying the message of Tawheed
until the Day of Judgment?
How can they be more deserving of Masada is set up when the Muslims
are the ones who uphold the teachings of Islam. And the
Muslims are the ones that recite the Quran that has mooses name
mentioned in it 136 times
where our Prophet and Messenger was only mentioned for
how not.
When
the complete story of Musa alayhis salam was mentioned in the Quran
16 times in detail
how not when in the middle and in the heart of our Quran that we
recite until the day of judgment. We find Surah till Israel that
details the matters of Bani Israel.
And what happened between Musa alayhis salam and
how not? When
Musa
alayhis salaam prayed behind Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam in Al Masjid Al Oxwall Mobarak the first Muslim in our
Ummah, to pray in the Masjid Al Aqsa was Muhammad Ali, his salatu
salam.
And who did he lead? He led all the Prophets and Messengers on the
Night of Ascension on the night of his royal Mirage
and he didn't ascend from anywhere. He didn't ascend from
Makkah. He didn't ascend from Medina, but he ascended from Al
Masjid Al Aqsa.
And that was a sign that this land is an endowed is inherited by the
Muslim eon. It is now the responsibility of the Muslim Ian
to purify it from shidduch. It is now the responsibility of Muslim
Ian to uphold it with justice, to respect it to dignify it to
cherish it and appreciate the message that ALLAH SubhanA wa Tala
live left with us.
How not?
When we are the Muslims,
and they turn their backs on Allah subhanaw taala
and the promises of Allah, brothers and sisters.
We need to remember these days
that signify a lot and read into them. And know the meanings of
these days. You see, not all times are the same.
Not all times are the same.
There is an hour and an hour. Yes, they're both 60 minutes. But an
hour. Taking an important exam is not like an hour watching TV.
It's not like an hour asleep.
It's not like an hour, where you have to defend yourself in a life
threatening situation.
It's completely different. Yes, they're all 60 minutes, but some
times are more important than others. And this is a time this is
one of the four sacred months and the beginning of this Islamic
year. We ask Allah subhanaw taala to make this a year of Toba and
forgiveness for us. Ask Allah subhanaw taala to forgive us. A
Coloma semitone was Stavroula Lee welcome. First of all we know
we'll have
Al hamdu Lillahi Rabbil Alameen wa Salatu was Salam ala Ashraf al
Anbiya even more saline say Aegina Muhammad Ali, he was a big man you
know about Allah. It's up Allah.
Brothers and sisters, I remind myself and yourselves to fear
Allah subhana wa Teina.
This
this is another year.
And then another page that has turned for us.
Not everyone sitting here
Dare I say?
Or perhaps some of us here
will be living this Islamic here as their last Islamic here but
they don't know it. We don't know it.
We actually have no idea brothers and sisters.
But what we know is that the fact that this year came
it says if Allah subhanaw taala gave us a paper and a pen and gave
us ink and told us right?
Right What you're going to do.
Right What you want to live for, fulfill your purpose.
Brothers and sisters, the Hijra
commemorates the migration of the Prophet sallallahu Nilsen
but the reality of Hijra is that it wasn't limited to the time of
Muhammad Salah Salem or to the Mohammed your own who migrated
from Mecca to Medina.
The Rasul Allah Azza wa sallam,
he said Al Maha Giroux min Hajj Romana Hala Juan. He said the true
Mohajer though the true migrator
is the one who migrates away from what Allah prohibited.
So how many of us in the beginning of this year 1445
For how many of us will it mark the first year of change? The year
of October, the year where we turned ourselves 180 degrees, the
year where before it we were negligent. We were heedless. We
were slacking, we did not do what we had to do, although we knew
what we needed to do, to make it to Jannah and to attain Allah's
pleasure, but we didn't do it.
But this year, we decided to change.
How many of us will commit to this Hijra?
How many of us will say, I want to leave what Allah prohibited? I
want to leave that bad habit. I want to leave that bad place I go
to I want to leave that bad person I associated with I want to leave
that haram job by working. I want to leave the Haram relationship
I'm in I want to leave the Haram language that I use.
How many of us will be migrating and doing digital this year?
The reality is
some of us
will learn from the lesson of the Hijra of the messengers to listen
and some of us will not
the ones who will are the ones who continue to rise and elevate and
the ones who don't for Hawala Humana, then it is continuous
blindness. Allah subhanho wa Taala called a reminder like so a
reminder is a double edged sword it either benefits a person and
elevates. Or if it's not accepted, then it becomes more blindness on
the person. It makes them more blind to the truths that will come
to them after that.
So what will we do this year? How will we truly commemorate this,
this this Hedra.
We learned from the story of Musa to trust in Allah, how many of us
will trust in Allah leaving the Haram habit leaving the Haram
addiction, leaving that person who tells us to do haram leaving that
place that surrounds us with haram? How many of us would leave
that?
Brothers and sisters,
we can say we want to change as much as we want. And we can claim
that our hearts is as pure as anything.
But actions speak louder than words. And the heart only spills
out from what it's filled with. So if a person's actions are spilling
with shatter and are doing evil, then there is no nothing more than
a projection of what lies inside of the heart.
Because Kulu inner in B Murphy and
every cup spills from what's inside it. There is no cup of
water that spills milk.
And there is no cup of oil that spills water.
The cup only spills from what's inside of it.
So let us work on filling our hearts with clear if our actions
are not
exemplified with like are not representing our claims about
ourselves, then that is a huge issue.
Perhaps the claims that we are making are what
is pacifying us from actually changing.
Sometimes a person keeps telling themselves that they're good,
they're upon fair. They're doing okay.
And that's all they get from it. They continue and persist with
everything. But Subhanallah
you find the person that's true to themselves. They say to
themselves, you know what? You're not doing that good. You used to
pray the Sunnah. You used to have great friends. You used to have
Halal income you used to stay around good places you used to do
this. You used to do that but you're no longer like that. What
is going on with your heart?
Rather than saying normal pinhead Wallah in my heart is pure. You
know I do all this haram Allahu Akbar. Only Allah knows what's
inside. And of course Allah knows what is inside. But brothers and
sisters, let that translate into action. The way the hijra, was an
action by the messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He didn't stay
in Mecca, but he moved to Medina and what?
Islam the way we know it,
and the state the first Muslim state
It was ruled with justice and prophethood. That was established.
So perhaps if we commit to this change, Allah will change us. And
Allah will elevate us, and Allah will increase us. And perhaps when
we change our children, our spouses, our siblings, our
community would see us change, and they'll be compelled to change
themselves. And they'll say, wow, this person was like this. And now
they're like that Wallahi we should change too. And then you
cause this ripple effect that lifts everyone up, and you don't
even know it, receiving reward for it until the day of judgment. May
Allah subhanaw taala reward us and increase us. May Allah subhanaw
taala make us reasons for clear. We ask Allah subhanaw taala for
the best of this coming year, and the best that comes after it. And
we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of this year and the evils
that come after it. We ask Allah subhanaw taala to make this year,
a year of victory for the Muslim in a year of alleviation of their
pains, a year of the freedom of those who are oppressed, we ask
Allah subhanaw taala to feed those who are hungry from the Muslim
men. We ask Allah to close those who are not clothed from the
Muslim Ian, we ask Allah to shelter those who lack shelter
from Muslimeen. We ask Allah subhana wa Taala to uplift our
situation and to guide us to the straight path. And we ask Allah
subhanaw taala to allow us to see our children in our progeny in the
state of Eman and righteousness in a state that is uplifting in a
state that makes them do it for them and call us to the truth in
this land. We ask Allah subhanaw taala to forgive us for our
