AI: Summary ©
I have a question.
The three verses you mentioned, they are two
of God.
Are they what?
Hundred?
Hundred and one?
Hundred and nine?
Hundred and one?
Or a hundred, hundred and one, hundred and
two?
Oh, yeah.
I'll look it up, inshallah.
Okay, inshallah.
Insha'Allah I'll give 10 seconds insha'Allah
for those who need to make their way
out, who are talking and not allowing other
people to hear anything, to step out insha
'Allah ta'ala.
Unless you want to remain.
Shabab, Ikhwanah, Assalamu alaikum.
Keep it down.
Tayyib, first of all I want you to
remember in your dua insha'Allah ta'ala,
multiple individuals.
Number one, Terahji Yusuf, 9 year old at
Labaner with very serious critical, in
a very serious and critical state.
So may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala ease
her pain and suffering.
And the other person that I was told
about is brother Firas Aish Abu Nasr, who
is also in a critical stage with one
lung completely failing and the other lung having
severe pneumonia.
So please make dua for both of them
insha'Allah ta'ala.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala ease their
pain and their suffering.
And may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala reward
them and may Allah strengthen them.
Allahumma rabb al-naas adhibu anhumu al-baas
wa shafima anta al-shaafi la shifa illa
shifauk.
Allahumma khaffif anhum wa ta'ata al-maradi
ya rabb al-alameen.
Allahumma khudbi aydihim.
Allahumma albishuma libas al-afia wa msah alihima
biyadika al-shaafia.
And then of course continue to pray for
our ummah insha'Allah ta'ala.
Especially for the heroes and the heroines of
Gaza, who are still, it ain't over by
the way.
It's not over until it's over.
It's not over.
People are still dying.
And amazing stories are coming out from Gaza.
One of these stories that actually really broke
my heart today.
It's very inspiring.
On one hand, the story is very inspiring.
On the other hand, it's really heartbreaking.
It's of a brother who is in the
resistance.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless them.
Who, for the past 460 days, ever since
the beginning of the aggression and the genocide,
he has been fasting.
Every day he fasts.
Just in case he is killed, he wanted
to die in a state of what?
While he is fasting.
Subhanallah.
Yesterday, half an hour before breaking his fast,
before Maghrib, after 460 days, he was killed.
Rahimahullah.
Wa radiallahu anhu.
Wa taqabbalahu fis shuhada'i wal salihin.
See, you cannot fake this.
You can't.
This level of commitment is...
A young man.
This has been his commitment to Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
460 days on his record.
Standing his ground.
Defending.
And when everyone thought it was all over,
it was all over.
Fahami'allah.
Wa taqabbalahu fis shuhada'i.
What a glorious life.
What a glorious ending.
What a glorious year for this hero.
Rahimahullah.
Rahmatan wasi'ah.
So...
How does this tie in with what we
are talking about tonight?
Many people have been asking questions about this
very interesting region.
And all the different dynamics.
And I am not going to talk about
the geopolitics.
This is not what I want to focus
on.
My focus tonight is what we find in
our tradition regarding this very special place.
And why we should all as Muslims really
care about what is happening in the Sham
region.
Or what has happened in the Sham region.
And as I mentioned the other day in
the intro, the Sham region concerns every Muslim
on the face of this planet.
Every Muslim.
You should care about the Sham region.
And every Muslim is somehow tied to this
region.
You don't have to be originally from there.
You don't have to have been born there.
You don't have to have your roots from
there.
You don't have to be ethnically from there.
As a Muslim, by default, you have some
connection to that region.
Just like as a Muslim, you have some
connection to what?
To Mecca and Medina.
And as a Muslim, by the way, you
have also as a Muslim, you have a
connection to Habesha, for instance, being the first
home for the Muslim community.
Especially for those of us living here in
the West.
There are a lot of parallels and a
lot of connections and ties between the experience
of the early Muslims in Abyssinia and those
of us, especially the African American Muslims who
first came here and formed communities.
So there is a connection.
So these historical regions are much more important
and significant to be studied than just for
those of us who specialize in the study
of history or research or like to read
about Sirah should be concerned with.
As a Muslim, generally speaking, you should feel
that any place that has that would be
considered Balad al-Islam the land of Islam,
one of the lands of Islam, you should
consider that place to be something that belongs
to you and you belong to it.
You know, Subhanallah.
My father, whenever, for instance, someone mentions, you
know, sometimes when someone says Pakistan, my father
used to say Balad al-Islam the land
of Islam.
Just the land of Islam.
You have some regions that were founded like
the Islamic culture, Islamic values are deeply rooted
in the culture of those places.
And those who come from such regions or
places specifically whose cultures and history is founded,
deeply rooted into the religion of Islam, understand
and appreciate this more than those who don't
really, who cannot relate to this.
Some of us have connection to places because
we were born there and we think it's
the best place ever because you're used to
it.
But at the end of the day it's
Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala who can designate
or assign a place to be a sacred
place, a special place.
So there is a reason why Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala chose Mecca.
There is a reason why Allah chose Medina.
There is a reason why Allah Subhanahu wa
ta'ala chose Masjid al-Aqsa, Bayt al
-Maqdis in particular, in the Sham region.
So tonight we're going to just go over
some of these some of these narrations.
First of all there is more than a
thousand hadith regarding the virtue of Sham.
So in order to, just for us to
appreciate what was said about this place.
Now, it is very important to mention that
most of these narrations and hadith are either
weak or fabricated.
They're not authentic, most of them.
The vast majority.
But the very few or the compared to
the large number of hadith those few hadith
that can be traced back authentically to the
Prophet ﷺ are enough and they're significant.
And guess what is more important and what
would be enough to show the significance of
that place?
The ayah that we started the salah with.
When I recited in salah,
Allah ﷻ talks about Masjid
al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.
And Allah says which we have blessed is
surrounding.
And the vast majority of the scholars are
of the opinion that the surrounding of Masjid
al-Aqsa is what?
The Sham region.
So how far does the Sham region extend?
When we say Sham, what are we talking
about?
Are we talking about Damascus?
Are we talking about modern-day Syria?
What are we talking about?
Sham region, as I mentioned the other day,
extends from the Euphrates in what we today
call Iraq, from the Euphrates all the way
to the Mediterranean Sea and down south to
Sinai.
And from the south, the northern parts of
Arabia are part of the northern parts of
modern-day Saudi Arabia are also part of
Sham region.
All the way to the southern borders or
regions of Turkey, modern-day Turkey.
This whole area, this vast place is called
Sham.
And Imam al-Nawawi, rahimahullah, and many other
scholars, they say there is a reason why
it's the muhajir, it is the destination or
the refuge of most prophets, the most noble
of prophets and messengers from Ibrahim and onward.
So when Ibrahim alayhi salam made hijrah from
Babylon, he chose to make hijrah into the
Sham region and specifically into modern-day Palestine.
And he stopped along the way.
Ibrahim alayhi salam went all the way to
Egypt.
And Egypt has some beautiful places and it's
a special place.
But he retreated back to the Sham region.
So did Jesus alayhi salam, Isa ibn Maryam.
And he retreated back to the Sham region.
So did Musa alayhi salam.
He used to actually, he was Musa had
ties to Egypt.
He was born there, he lived there.
Yet, he migrated alayhi salam to Egypt.
So far I mentioned three out of the
five prophets and messengers.
And many historians also believe that when Nuh
alayhi salam settled, when his ship finally settled,
it settled where?
In that region as well.
Nobody knows for sure.
But some historians believe that that's where it
settled.
And then our prophet Muhammad salallahu alayhi wasalam
traveled to Sham region for sure.
We don't know if he traveled to Yemen.
But we know that he traveled to the
Sham region before in his youth, salallahu alayhi
salam.
In his adulthood or after he became a
prophet, he never traveled anywhere outside the Arabian
Peninsula.
Except to the southern borders when he went
for Tabuk.
But other than that, there is no record
of the prophet salallahu alayhi salam going into
that Sham region.
Except on one occasion.
One amazing, and some people consider it to
be mysterious.
It's not mysterious.
One amazing occasion on a very blessed night
which Allah refers to in Surah Al-Isra.
And after that journey, after that kind of
journey, you don't need to make any other
journey.
That's it.
Where the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam traveled from
Al-Masjid Al-Haram from Mecca to Jerusalem.
And there, again, within the Sham region, Allah
resurrected and gathered all 124,000 prophets and
messengers in the greatest conference or convention the
world has ever witnessed.
And they all gathered and the prophet salallahu
alayhi wasalam led them in Salah.
So that is the region Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala chose to be the place of
the gathering of all the prophets and the
messengers.
And by the way, there will be a
second gathering to all these prophets and messengers,
but this time with all of their followers.
Those who followed them and those who didn't
follow them on the Day of Judgment.
So it's almost agreed upon amongst the scholars
that Sham is Ard Al-Mahshar, is where
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is going to
gather all humans once again to be held
accountable before the day or on the Day
of Judgment.
So what did the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam
say about this region?
The hadith that we mentioned the other day,
the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam prayed, he said
Allahumma barik lana fee shamina Allahumma barik lana
fee yamanina Qalu ya rasool Allah wa fee
najdina So Abdullah ibn Umar says that the
prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam said, O Allah, bless
our Sham.
And the vast majority of the scholars believe,
they interpret this as the Sham region.
Some scholars say the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam
was praying for the northern region from Medina
or wherever he made this dua.
And the southern region, the south and the
north.
But it is the understanding of most scholars
that the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam was specifically
talking about the Sham region.
O Allah, bless our Sham.
O Allah, bless our Yemen.
So some people said O messenger of Allah,
how about our Najd?
Najd is the central part of the Arabian
Peninsula.
So the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam said, again
Allahumma barik lana fee shamina Allahumma barik lana
fee yamanina O Allah, bless our Sham.
O Allah, bless our Yemen.
So some people said, wa fee najdina and
how about our Najd, messenger of Allah?
The prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam said, Allahumma barik
lana fee shamina Allahumma barik lana fee yamanina.
And this is a very common, I would
say practice of the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam.
When he wants to put emphasis on something,
he would actually repeat it three times.
When he wants to show something is better
than something else, he would repeat three times.
For instance, for those people who go for
Hajj and Umrah, we tell them, if you
can shave, shave.
Shave your hair.
Because the prophet made dua for those who
shaved three times.
Each time the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam made
dua for those who shaved, those who shortened
their hair or trimmed.
They said, how about those who trimmed, messenger
of Allah?
The prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam made dua again
for those who shaved.
They said, how about those who trimmed, shortened
their hair?
The prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam made dua again
for those who shaved.
So they knew there's something special about it.
And then the fourth time when they asked,
he said, and for those who shortened their
hair as well.
After the fourth.
A man comes to the prophet salallahu alayhi
wasalam, he says, who deserves the best of
my treatment?
He said, your mother.
He said, and then who?
He said, your mother.
And he said, and then who?
He said, your mother, three times.
And then the fourth time, he said, and
then who?
He said, your father.
So that shows the significance or the status
of mothers and motherhood.
So the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam here to
show the status that the virtue of Sham
and Yemen, the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam made
dua three times.
But when they asked him about why he's
not including Najd, he said, هنالك الزلازل والفتن
وبها يطلع قرن الشيطان He said, there will
be earthquakes and tribulations, fitna, coming from that
direction.
And there will appear the horn of Satan.
What that means, we don't know.
Has that happened?
We don't know.
Was he talking about Musaylimah, Al-Kaddhab, the
imposter, who came, who appeared.
Allahu alam.
We don't know.
Whether the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam whatever he
was referring to happened or will happen.
The prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam is talking about
what will happen on the day of judgment.
And that's why he refrained.
The prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam only Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala knows.
No need to speculate or read too much
into it.
What we take from hadith, what I wanted
to take from this hadith is obviously the
virtue of Yemen and Sham, but we're focusing
today on the region of Hisham.
From this hadith, the companions or the ulama,
the scholars, deduced two things.
Number one, the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam made
dua to that place.
And the prophets wouldn't make a dua for
a place unless it is worthy of that
dua.
Number two, the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam said
bless.
So the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam made dua
that Allah would bless it.
And we know for sure if the prophet
salallahu alayhi wasalam prays for someone or for
something, Allah will answer him.
So if the prophet said, Oh Allah bless
our Hisham, that means Allah has blessed the
Hisham.
Number three, the fact that the prophet salallahu
alayhi wasalam said our Hisham.
Our Hisham.
And when the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam was
saying our Hisham, he wasn't speaking as an
Arab.
He wasn't speaking as someone from Quraysh because
Quraysh are not from Hisham.
He wasn't speaking our when the prophet salallahu
alayhi wasalam says our, he's speaking of himself
as Muslim.
We as believers and as Muslims, this place
belongs to us and we belong to it.
It belongs to us and we belong to
it.
And mind you, when the prophet salallahu alayhi
wasalam made this dua, the Hisham region was
not under the Muslim rule.
What is the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam telling
them?
We are going to liberate that land.
We are going to conquer that place.
We are going to rule that place.
Not only that, but we're going to spread
the light of guidance and the light of
Islam from that place.
That's exactly what happened within two decades of
the prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam making that dua.
He told them that once they reach, they
conquer Hisham and Iraq and those lands, especially
Hisham.
The prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam said, I don't
fear poverty or scarcity of resources for you.
Once you get Hisham, you're going to be
blessed with an abundant amount of wealth and
resources.
And the prophet used to tell the Prophet
salallahu alayhi wasalam, and I fear for you
that because dunya is going to open up
for you.
So the Hisham region was the gate to
prosperity.
And that's what happened.
So in a way, those of us who
received Islam or our ancestors received Islam from
expeditions and from campaigns that actually were deployed
from that region, we owe that to that
region, to the people of that region, and
to the dua of the prophet salallahu alayhi
wasalam.
And as I mentioned the other day, Muhammad
ibn al-Qasim who made it all the
way to the subcontinent, he came from where?
He was deployed by the Umayyads who used
to rule the Hisham region.
Through Iraq, his Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf his
cousin was the ruler of Iraq at that
time.
And he's the one that deployed him to
go and deliver Islam to that region.
And the same thing with northern Africa and
all the way to Indonesia, it was those
who came from Hisham that carried that.
And again, as the scholars say, when we
say Hisham, we're not talking about Shamis.
We're talking about anyone that used to reside
there or settled there, including many Sahaba from
Mecca and Medina.
They settled and they lived there and they
died and they were buried there.
And many great scholars who may not have
been originally from that region, but yet they
went and they settled there because they believed
in the blessed nature of those regions, or
that particular region.
The other amazing hadith that we find that
al-Bani, rahimahullah, considered to be authentic, is
a hadith that we find in the collection
of Abu Dawood.
Where the Prophet ﷺ is reported to have
said, ...
...
...
...
The narrator of the hadith, Abdullah ibn Hawala,
he said, ...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
The most important
part is the fact that he said عَلَيْكَ
بِالشَّامِ فَإِنَّهَا خِيْرَةُ اللَّهِ مِنْ أَرْضِهِ This is
a very interesting hadith Again, as I mentioned,
al-Bani consider this hadith to be authentic
So Abdullah ibn Hawala, he said The Messenger
of Allah ﷺ told them A time will
come, and by the way this والله تعالى
أعلم As far as I know, this is
something that happened During the time of the
Sahaba After the death of the Prophet He
told them, the matter will turn out to
be Things will progress And a time will
come When To the point where you will
be divided Into three armies You're going to
have three divisions You're going to have armies
or different fronts In different places One in
the Sham region One in Yemen, and one
in Iraq There will be different campaigns Different
fronts, you're going to be part of So
Abdullah ibn Hawala said to the Prophet ﷺ
Oh Messenger of Allah, choose for me Where
should I go if I live to see
that?
So the Prophet ﷺ said to him, go
to Sham Join the expedition or the campaign
of Sham And here's the point For it
is Allah's chosen land Where He gathers His
best servants And Allah already has done that
With the Prophets and the Messengers And this
is the point He said, if you refuse,
if you decline If you don't want to
do that, then go to Yemen Go to
Yemen And he told him And drink from
its wells Or from its waters I guess
there is something blessed about it And then
the hadith concludes by saying Allah has taken
responsibility Allah has promised me To take care
of Sham and its people So this is
another hadith And wallahu ta'ala a'lam,
this happened This happened And part of the
blessings of Allah Upon the Sahaba Who actually
went on those campaigns To the Sham region
If you read the history of the Sham
region The conquests there If you try to
understand These military campaigns And these victories From
today's If you try to understand and analyze
them You will be amazed As to how
they were able to dismantle One of the
greatest Most sophisticated Armies In the world The
world has ever witnessed The Roman legions And
the Roman armies And the Romans were not
fighting by themselves They had allies Some of
these battles Almost every single battle The Muslims
fought And they were fighting two fronts Simultaneously
Two fronts One in the Iraq region Against
the other superpower The Persian Empire And the
other one was Against the Roman Empire And
the Sahaba had very I mean They had
iman They had strong iman But it was
very primitive They were fighting against You know
Against serious forces Serious forces And when you
look at the numbers Or when you look
at the statistics You will see that The
Muslims were always outnumbered Huge margin They were
always outnumbered As a matter of fact One
of these battles Is taught In military schools
until this day Actually more than one Two
of them One is Mu'tah And the other
one is Yarmouk Because The genius of the
Sahaba Especially Khalid bin Walid What they did
was Imperilant And I believe that Obviously the
help of Allah They had divine intervention No
doubt in my mind And in no time
Not only were they able to conquer the
land They were able to secure it Forever
They never lost The Muslims never lost The
bulk of the Sham region Jerusalem And some
of the You know Portions of Palestine And
Lebanon and all of that Yes the crusaders
came and took over And then the Muslims
liberated again And now we see But the
Sham itself This whole thing about From the
River to the sea It ain't gonna happen
It's not gonna happen Meaning no Muslims will
rule The bulk of that area will always
Be under the rule of Muslims This is
the promise of Allah and his messenger And
it will never fail And Alhamdulillah Ghazans Showed
us that they can't even take over Gaza,
they want to take over that whole region
Just to see to what extent Media has
Deceived us And played with our minds Let
alone the minds of The masses in the
Middle East Who believe that this is Nothing
Nothing And as some people say Inshallah Okay
I'll just share one more Hadith Inshallah And
we'll conclude with this And Abu Darda It's
very interesting Because Abu Darda Actually Decided to
live where?
In the Sham region Him and Umm Darda
They both migrated to Jerusalem And they lived
in the Sham region Not only that but
as I told you before He invited his
best friend Salman Al-Farisi To leave Iraq
And to come where?
To Jerusalem And he said to him Come
to the Sacred or to the Holy Land
So Abu Darda relates to the Prophet Hadith
And the Hadith is also very similar Hadith
is collected by Abdullah So I will relate
to you both Together I will just Where
the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Talks about a
dream that he had The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam Said I saw the pillar of the
book Being removed From under my pillow So
he says He sees a book being Taken
away from under The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
His own pillow And we know that the
dreams Of the Messengers or the Prophets Is
what?
A form of Wahi Allah Subh'anaHu Wa
Ta-A'la He said He said It
was taken from under my pillow So I
knew it was being Taken somewhere so I
kept Staring at it and looking at it
So it was taken all the way to
the Sham region And placed there What is
the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Interpretation of this
dream?
He mentions it in the Hadith He says
So the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says Indeed
Faith or Iman Will be placed in the
Sham region During times of tribulations Iman You'll
find Iman there You'll find the renewal of
Iman there And that's what we see Subh
'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la Every time the
Sham region gets exposed to Fitna and becomes
No matter how Bad or how much people
Deviate away from the path of Allah Subh
'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la Under Colonialism Or
under secularism Or under socialism Or under any
of these things No matter how much people
deviate away from The path of Allah in
the Sham region There will always be people
Who restore that Iman Eventually Fitna, tribulations Death
and destruction Brings people back to Iman And
once they Have their Iman, their faith in
Allah Restored Breakthrough And we just witnessed one
You know there are some people who talk
to us About things that happened Tens of
years ago Long time ago Before you know
And how the people of That region were
able to defeat The French And not too
far from there The British Armies and all
of that And before that We were told
about the Crusaders And before that we were
told about the Mongols And before that we
were told about the Romans And the Byzantines
We were told That the people of that
region You know were able to gather Muslims
from everywhere and they were able to Defeat
them by the power of their Iman And
before that the Sahaba Now we witness one
I have no doubt Someone might come to
me And say hey you're being too hasty
As usual, no I'm not We witness This
is something different This is something very special
And time will show us And that is
why It is important For all of us
to really understand The virtue and the special
nature of this place And my advice to
you Only Allah knows Is that if you
can in any way or fashion If you
can Learn And know more about that region
And visit And Contribute to the prosperity Of
that region And if you can invest in
that region And if you can even If
you have long term plans That's where you
That's where you should Your mindset should be
Even if it's not you You should think
That I want my children one day to
settle there I want them to be there
Because that's That's the place of That's the
place of That's a blessed place That's a
place All Muslims should really Have their eyes
on And as I said For those who
are still You know Depressed about the situation
In Palestine The gate to Palestine Goes through
Damascus And the enemies of this Ummah They
know this very well And someone might say
But if they know this very well They're
not going to let that happen Well Good
thing is that they're not in charge Allah
is They're not in charge كان غيرهم أشطر
As Egyptians say There was a time where
people thought The Roman Empire is not going
to allow Such and such And there was
a time where The Persian Emperor Laughed At
the messenger of the Prophet The emissaries that
came You think we're going to let you
We're going to let you live They laughed
At them But at the end of the
day It is Allah's will And whatever Allah's
will Will happen And so far none of
the prophecies And the promises of the Prophet
Have failed Every single one of them He
told the Sahaba they're going to conquer Sham
They conquered Sham He told the Sahaba they're
going to conquer Iraq They conquered Iraq He
told Muslims Will conquer Constantinople They conquered Constantinople
And no one was able to ever Kick
them out Any place the Prophet said By
the way take this as a rule Any
place the Prophet said You're going to conquer
We will never lose We conquered different places
Right But they were taken away But a
place the Prophet said You're going to conquer
Once the Muslims conquer it will always be
theirs So rest assured Every prophecy the Prophet
Gave will happen The question is what kind
of people conquer And what kind of people
are worthy of it And what is it
that they do What their agenda should be
Allah Azzawajal told us in the Qur'an
Something that we should be engaged in Even
in this little community of ours that we
have here Those whom if we were to
give them Authority or power On the land
They will establish Salah They will give charity
And they will enjoy what is good and
forbid what is evil And that is something
within our capacity as a community We should
practice this here Until Allah gives us permission
To go to Wherever we belong May Allah
bless Muslim lands May Allah bless The Sham
region May Allah grant them Stability and prosperity
May Allah honor The beloved Ummah of our
beloved Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him If
you have any questions You can ask me
We will just keep it casual I will
be around for anyone who wants to comment
Or ask any question Peace be upon you
