Allah Has Honored The Children Of Adam Brothers
and sisters, it is ultra important for the
Muslim to know that Allah has especially honored
the human being.
We have indeed honored
all of the children of Adam, عليه السلام.
And this has taken place in many ways.
He has made us physically upright and that
is an honor.
And he has made us morally upright and
that is even more of an honor.
In the
best stature.
But before all of that, before the children
of Adam, returning to the origin story itself
is a treasure trove of the honorings of
the human being and the human potential.
How did it all start?
Abdullah ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما said, Allah
honored four things in particular by creating them
with his own two hands.
The throne of Allah, the greatest of the
creation.
And then the pen that documents the destined
decrees of everything that will take place until
the day of judgment.
And then Jannatu Adn, the gardens of eternity.
Allah honored the believer by preparing their hosting
in Jannah, their reward with his own two
hands, عز و جل.
He said, and then, Adam, our father, the
first human being, Adam عليه السلام.
How did it happen?
First, Allah عز و جل had dirt, the
dust, the turab, you hear about it in
the Qur'an over and over again, created
from turab, dust or dirt.
He had it collected from all across the
earth.
And this, subhanallah, is reflected in the spectrum
of human complexions, human skin colors.
All different colors, each of them has a
correlation with the types of dirt, the colors
of dirt of the earth, making it easier
for us to remember the treasure of the
origin story.
There's no purple dirt, and likewise there are
no purple people.
But the spectrum that exists among people exists
beneath the feet of people as well, the
dirt.
Also they said the temperaments, the scholars have
said, the personality traits of the human beings,
some softer, some more malleable, some rougher, immovable.
This is also reflected in the textures of
the earth.
But more important than those two is the
fact that it was dirt.
Why is it more important?
Because that was the one the Prophet ﷺ
spoke of.
You all stem from
Adam, and never forget, Adam came from dust.
He came from dirt,
So no Arab should boast over a non
-Arab, no black over a white, or vice
versa, none of that.
You're all from Adam, and Adam from dust.
In fact, Allah عز و جل Himself makes
sure we continue to make that connection by
capturing for us what the wise believing man
said to this rich pompous individual when he
disbelieved in God due to the delusion of
his riches, his worldly riches.
The wise man said to him what?
How could you
deny, how could you forget the one who
created you from dust?
And this is why Al-Hasan Al-Basri
رحمه الله one of the great early Muslims,
he used to say, عَجَبًا لِبْنِ آدَمٍ It's
insane to think about the son of Adam.
How he can become
prideful and arrogant in front of Allah as
Allah is watching him.
How can he do that?
When he is nothing but a
handful of the dirt of the earth that
is stomped on by people's feet.
That same dirt that we step on without
flinching.
That when we get it on our clothes,
we're quick to wipe it off.
That's what we came from.
And then he continued to say,
This human being, that
the moment the temperature changes, he starts becoming
smelly.
You know it.
All the perfume in the world and the
showers can't hide it.
It's a reality.
The moment it gets a bit hot in
the room, you begin to sweat, and your
odor becomes evident.
He rots immediately.
The odor comes up immediately.
He said, وَتَقْتُلْهُ شَرْقًا And he can be
killed by a sip.
You know a sip of water in a
moment of mental lapse, it goes down the
wrong pipe.
That's it, you're done.
Your life and your accomplishments and your recognition,
your reputation, your degrees and all of this.
Sip of water, the text messages go around.
It's janazah time.
That's it.
You're ended by a sip.
He says, وَتُؤْذِيهِ بَقَّ And he is bothered,
so bothered by a bug.
Best day of your life.
The fly keeps landing on your nose, throws
you out of whack.
Frustrates you, annoys you for your whole day.
How can you get prideful, he says.
Similarly, al-Muhallab was once seen by one
of the greats of our righteous predecessors, Malik
ibn Dinar saw al-Muhallab strutting, walking proudly.
And so he said,
He says, what's
wrong with you?
You don't know that Allah despises, Allah hates
that someone walk like this, strutting.
Except between the two battle ranks.
Like the only exception is if the war
is about to start, a just war for
the sake of Allah and you want to
intimidate your opponent by showing some toughness, that's
an exception to the rule.
And any other context, Allah hates to see
someone walk like that.
So al-Muhallab responded, and he said, أَمَا
How dare you speak to me like
that?
You have any idea who I am?
He said to him, I know who you
are.
He says, your origin, how you started,
Just like a flimsy fluid, you
know that fluid that happens in the marital
relation that when it gets on you, you
rush off to the bathroom to wash it
off real quick, that's how you started.
And your end game is
what?
You're a rotting corpse.
You get stuffed in your grave and you
bloat for a few hours and you start
falling apart, and then the maggots and the
worms feast on you, that's all you are,
a rotting corpse.
And between
these two states, flimsy fluid and rotting corpse,
you carry within you waste.
You're a walking toilet.
We all know what our intestines carry.
He said to him, how can you get
arrogant?
So Al-Muhallab responded to him and he
He said, he
broke, the great scholar broke his pride.
And he said to him, just now, meaning
for the first time in my life, someone
has properly identified me, meaning thank you, thank
you for checking me, thank you for waking
me up.
And so it was the dirt, it's where
it all began.
And then Allah Azza wa Jalla added water
to the dirt.
And so it naturally became what?
It became mud.
And the Qur'an mentions the human being
came from tin, mud.
And then Allah Azza wa Jalla allowed for
that mud to sit.
And it became hama, became masnoon, altered mud.
Meaning the mud started becoming black, and also
started having a little bit of a stench.
It was about to go bad.
And then it became
And then it became hard clay.
You know, hard clay means it's hollow on
the inside.
You know, صَلْصَالِمْ, the repetition in that sound
means there's an echo.
Echo, the sound can go through you.
Meaning you're not just a flat, no, you're
now a 3D object, right?
You have taken shape.
And this is incredible to think about.
You know, Adam Alayhi Salaam, when he was
created, it's not like these, you know, these
wrongfully constructed sculptures of human beings.
It's not just some external chiseling of the
facial features.
Everything about the human being was created by
Allah Azza wa Jal.
In that moment, out of mud, the 130
million light receptors on the back of your
eye or whatever other fun fact we now
understand about human anatomy, all of that was
done.
And why?
So that you don't just think about the
humble origins, but you also think about the
greatness of God.
The Qur'an told us this, وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ
One of the great signs of Allah's power,
of Allah's knowledge, of Allah's wisdom, أَنْ خَلَقَكُمْ
That He created this, the status
quo, you, out of dirt, it became that,
the transformation.
And all of a sudden, out of
dirt, you're a human being, you're humans, you're
the human race scattering about on this earth,
And the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam told
us in some hadith that when Adam Alayhi
Salaam was fully formed and the impeccable design
was set, before the soul was blown into
Adam Alayhi Salaam, there was an individual from
the jinn, his name was Iblis, who stood
over the body of Adam Alayhi Salaam and
he resented the image of the human being.
Why?
Because he saw that it was a superior
creation.
He was intimidated by it, he felt threatened
by it immediately.
And he resented the image and he vowed
to himself.
He used to spit on the body of
Adam Alayhi Salaam in some reports and say,
I swear, if I'm ever told to obey
you one day, I'm gonna disobey.
And if you're ever told to obey me
one day, I'm gonna lead you astray.
That jealousy, that envy, the hatred was eating
him up.
By the way, brothers and sisters, this is
why we are taught in the sunnah.
Don't underestimate this.
It is a priceless gift that when that
body that shaitaan envies becomes uncovered, you are
to seek refuge in Allah from the envier,
from shaitaan.
When you enter the bathroom, that's when we
O Allah, protect me from the
demons, male and female.
Why are they in the bathrooms?
Part of it is that they're jealous of
the body, it's what triggers them to see
you uncovered.
Likewise in the marital relation, right before that
moment of intimacy, we are taught to say,
In the name of God.
O Allah, remove shaitaan from this moment and
remove him, curb him also from whatever you
may provide us with.
Meaning from a child that we may have.
Because he can't have your exterior body, your
shape, your image.
So he hates you for it.
And he's going to now be *-bent
on destroying your interior image.
This brings us to a third dua.
It is reported that the Prophet ﷺ taught
us to say, when we look at our
image, we look at the image of the
honored son of Adam, or daughter of Adam.
When you look at a mirror, when you
are to say, اللَّهُمَّ كَمَا حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ
O Allah, the same way you have
beautified my exterior features, beautify my interior features.
Shaitaan wants that now.
If I can't sort of change this, I'm
going to make you a devil from within.
I'm going to make you a shaitaan in
human form, in human skin.
And so this was the state because Allah
honored the son of Adam, the Adam ﷺ.
But he had not even given, Allah had
not even given him his greatest gift yet.
Which is that he blew into Adam ﷺ
from a very unique special soul that he
created.
Of course we do not believe as Muslims
that a part of God is within the
human being.
When Allah says in the Qur'an, blow
into him from our soul, from my soul,
it means my very specially created soul, right?
A unique soul.
A soul that can have a unique relationship
with Allah.
A soul that is eligible for earning Allah's
company forever, eternally in Jannah, that soul.
Once Allah عز و جل blew into the
soul, blew into Adam ﷺ, he became alive.
This is when he transformed into a living,
alive human being.
This is when he woke up in Jannah.
And what did he say when he woke
up in Jannah?
He did not say, wow, this is amazing.
The Prophet ﷺ said, that when the soul
reached the nose of Adam ﷺ, as if
Allah had it tickle his nose.
When it reached the nose of Adam ﷺ,
he sneezed.
And when he sneezed, Allah inspired him to
say, what was the first thing ever said
by any human being?
He said, Alhamdulillah.
All praise be to Allah.
And Allah had him say this, why?
Because the hadith continues to tell us that
Allah responded to him and said, the first
thing Allah ever said to humanity was, يَرْحَمُكَ
May Allah's mercy be upon
you, O Adam.
This is how it began.
This is the origin story.
From it we never forget where we came
from.
We never forget that Adam ﷺ recognized the
praiseworthiness, the purpose, the grandeur of Allah ﷻ.
And that Allah wishes mercy for us from
day one.
And then as Allah ﷺ had
Adam ﷺ rise and begin to explore Jannah,
He taught Adam ﷺ
the names of all things, how to properly
identify all things.
And he had not given that knowledge to
the angels.
So he had Adam ﷺ teach them despite
these great creatures and their great intelligence.
Allah withheld from them so that they will
always know that someone always knows something you
don't know.
And that ultimately whomever knows anything it's because
Allah has given it to them.
So Allah gave Adam ﷺ this understanding.
And so after he had Adam teach the
angels, he commanded them all to make sujood,
to prostrate to Adam.
Not in worship of course, but in salutation,
to honor Adam ﷺ.
Because now superior form that Allah gifted us,
and that superior soul, and then superior intelligence,
he tells them prostrate.
So they all prostrated.
Except for Iblis.
You see Iblis was an individual from the
jinn.
And he due to his hard work was
rewarded by Allah by being upgraded to the
assembly of the angels.
And so whatever was an address for the
angels also now applied to him.
But he also had free will so to
speak, unlike the angels.
So he was able to choose.
All of the angels naturally, seamlessly prostrate.
Allah says, إِلَّا إِبْلِيسُ Except Iblis.
was of the jinn, and so he acted
on the ability to rebel against the command
of his Lord Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
And as you know brothers and sisters, Allah
said to him, Why did you not prostrate?
To what I created with
my own two hands, what I honored.
He said, I'm better
than him.
I'm made from fire, he's made from mud.
Look at the delusion.
He thought destructive fire was superior to productive
mud.
Mud builds, fire destroys.
Mud is even stable, fire is flickering.
Right?
But ultimately in that is a profound timeless
lesson.
That whomever forgets their humble origins, even as
human beings, even those that were created from
mud, whoever forgets their humble origins, and forgets
the greatness of Allah, and forgets the arrogance
of Iblis, then he becomes more resembling of
shaitan than resembling of the honored insan, the
honored human being.
And so Allah Azzawajal expelled him, and insha
'Allah in future khutbas, we will forward the
discussion on Adam A.S. life in paradise,
in jannah, and then Adam A.S. life
and death on earth.
But know that shaitan from there was at
the crossroads.
And when he was expelled, he swore.
In the hadith we shared weeks prior, when
he said, وَعِزَّتِكُ جَلَالِكُ I swear by your
might and your majesty.
I will continue to mislead your servants
of Allah so long as their soul remains
in their body.
And so Allah Azzawajal said, وَعِزَّتِكُ جَلَالِكُ I
swear by my might and my majesty.
I will
continue to forgive them.
I will continue to put my mercy upon
the children of Adam, so long as they
continue to seek my forgiveness, so long as
they continue to seek my mercy.
May Allah Azzawajal teach us that which benefits
us, and benefit us with that which He
teaches us.
May Allah Azzawajal keep us forever seeking His
forgiveness and His mercy.
May Allah Azzawajal help us stay humble regardless
of whatever life grants us.
May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala cure the
sick among the Muslims, and have mercy upon
the deceased among the Muslims, and give victory
to all those oppressed among the Muslims.
