Salam Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh Bismillah
Alhamdulillah wa Salatu was Salam ala Rasulillah Allah Allah He was
Sahbihi women who Allah,
Allah Zinnia Halima
we are Allah, open the hearing channels of our hearts and
increase us in useful knowledge, knowledge which grants us greater
recognition of you, brings us closer to you and provides a means
of success in this life and in the hereafter. I mean, we send peace
and blessings on our beloved, the most noble of Allah's creation of
Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa Salam is Beit is Sahaba and his
descendants and companions
in the best way that Allah grants his blessings.
We beseech Allah subhanaw taala to grant him that
and to grant him the best of what He has granted to any messenger on
behalf of his Oma. I mean,
we're going to talk about Rasul allah sallallahu alayhi wa salam
today, because we have chosen the 80th chapter
surah of the Quran, which is Surah Abba.
And as you know, Abba comes from oboes which means to frown, just
show a little displeasure, not by words, not by any thing other than
the slightest crease of the forehead, which is Abba. And in
this form, that is presented in the Arabic language, it means in
the third person masculine singular, he frowned. This is the
title of our Surah today,
some other names have been given to the surah
some have called it a saw half, which is comes later in the Surah
which means the piercing cry, and it has also been called a
sufferer.
The scribes the angels who write in this is another word that comes
later in the Surah.
So as we've been covering the early marking period, this is
another Surah from the early Mac country.
And many of you might know the background of this.
And the surah starts with somewhat of a rebuke a reprimand from Allah
subhanaw taala
to our sulam masala values.
Actually, this is a Surah that honors Rasulullah sallallahu
alayhi salam, if you look at it properly, and it highlights his
status with Allah subhanaw taala.
It highlights his status, in that Allah subhanaw taala has elevated
him above all other of his creation. And when you are given
that status,
with that, comes certain expectations, certain standards
that Allah expects from the best of creation. So any action which
is not the best, Allah subhanaw taala may take him to task for
that. So we will look at that. And in the surah Allah subhanaw taala
has also honored the Sahaba of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi salam
particularly one who was blind by the name of say the now habit
Allah ibn Maktoum.
So this surah starts the first part of it the first denials are
so they are directly related to an incident that occurred in the
early makan period. The incident of Abdullah Ibni Omen Maktoum and
we will talk about that in a few minutes. The next portion of the
of the surah from ir 11 to 16. Talks about the grandiose the
status, the glory of the Quran, the revelation and the angels who,
who got it to carry it to who scro who write it, and who who bring it
and then the the surah talks about in general
The ingratitude of humanity. And this is the verses between 17 and
22. Allah smart Allah gives a blanket sort of condemnation of
humanity in general of how ungrateful they're
and then on the next portion, it enjoins and that you recall the
bounties of Allah subhanaw taala, how He created you how he is
things so it talks about the Rubia of Allah subhanaw taala, the tau
hate, and the last part has to do with with the hereafter. Allah
subhanaw taala mentions the disparate ends of the two groups
of people, the believers and the disbelievers.
This surah has a lot of common themes. And it's a continuity of
the surah that comes before it which is 79, which is a Nazjatar,
which we haven't covered, but when we cover it, we will look at the
links of the two sewers.
Before we we go into depth in this surah I'd like to remind myself
and you about the status of Rasulullah sallallahu sallam.
It's universally agreed that Allah subhanaw taala has protected the
Gambia and particularly Rasulullah sallallahu, whenever salam
from any sin, they are Massoud, they are sinless.
They do not commit sin, Allah has purified their hearts, their
actions and all of that. So we should never
think about when we hear about something Allah subhanaw taala,
saying something to Musa alayhis salam, or to Universalist, or to
any of the Gambia that it is a sin that they committed.
What it means is Allah if Allah subhanaw taala, showing
displeasure with some of that action, it is that Allah subhanaw
taala wants them to be at that standard. So he calls them to task
for the slightest thing.
So if we remember, but
the higher the rank,
the higher the rank and status,
the greater the expectations, and this is the same in the dunya.
When you elevate somebody in a company or in a country, then you
have greater expectations and responsibilities. So imagine, what
is the expectation Allah subhanaw taala has, and he holds the
Prophet sallallahu Sallam accountable for as being the best
of creation, that none of his actions unless they are at the
level of sun, the best of all alternatives,
is approved by Allah.
That he could possibly be called to task, or rebuked for those.
Now, going back to the status of Rasulullah, sallallahu alayhi
salam, what was the responsibility given to him, the responsibility
that was given to the best of creation was the guidance of
entire humanity
till the Day of Judgment, because he was told he is hot and never
been the last of the prophets and messengers, that there is no other
prophet to come. There is no other message to come, there is no other
divine religion that will come. Therefore, the Prophet salallahu
Alaihe Salam had the task of conveying this message and
preparing people in such a way that after him this message would
continue till the Day of Judgment, even though no other prophets
would come.
Look at the burden of this responsibility. He was carrying
the word the world on his shoulders,
the responsibility of guidance of all of humanity, we have 7 billion
people just living today. Think of all the people who have lived in
the last 1400 years think of all the people who will come till the
Day of Judgment, the guidance of all of that was put on the
shoulders of rasool Allah Salah virus.
And with this in mind disfigured constantly he worked and he worked
nonstop to achieve those ends, and to secure that Islam would be
preserved and be presented for every generation to come till the
Day of Judgment. And yet he was given only 23 years to fulfill
this responsibility when we compare to previous mess
Soldiers some 400 years, 60 years, 950 years 23 years to ensure that
this message remains pure and clear for all of mankind.
That's why Allah subhanaw taala in the Quran has addressed the
Prophet sallallaahu Salam in very intimate ways he does not call in
anywhere in the Quran Yabba Hamad Salama
he says yeah, Adam, he said ya know, Allah Subhana Allah says in
the Quran yeah Ibrahim yah Musa yah yah yah yah yah yah yah yah
Zakariya all of them, he addresses by their names. Not once does he
address him by his name but he says by his lockup, he says, Yeah,
are you hon Nabi? Er, Johan Rasul? Yeah, evil Muslim men. Yeah, you
have that in such ways, which show a greater intimacy, or you who are
covered up, oh my profit or the messenger. This is a way of
showing respect, just like we don't call our parents by their
names. So Allah subhanaw taala has shown in his own divine way, the
etiquette for us. So, we should remember, that was sort of loss of
aloneness to love is sinless. And if he is rebuked by Allah subhanaw
taala, there is a reason
and we don't take that as his having committed a sin
or even call it a mistake.
All we can say is Allah subhanaw taala expected something even
better.
So
we should not go to those extremes of saying Oh, he did this.
And on the other hand, we don't go to the other extremes of saying
raising him to the level of divinity because he is habit over
syndrome.
Similarly, there are people who don't want to recite Surah Abba,
they said we shouldn't recite this why? Or because there's a rebuke
to rasool Allah Sangha. This is the Quran.
If you look at it properly, it is an honor
for us all Allah supplies. Now in those early makan days, people
used to call including some of the early Muslims Sahaba used to call
them young Mohamed
Salah Loyless because Allah subhanaw taala had not taught them
the other which came in Medina, of how to talk to a Sunni Muslim
Lancer sallam, they used to raise their voice in front of him. They
used to talk to him like they talk to anyone else. And frequently you
would hear if you read it will say yeah, Muhammad, because this is
how Abdullah Omar Maktoum came to the province. And Paloma listened
and said yeah, Muhammad Ali eliminate teach me what Allah has
taught you.
It is only in Medina that Allah subhanaw taala teaches the
etiquette to the Sahaba of how to even talk to Rasulullah sallallahu
sallam, Allah subhanaw taala teaches us the etiquette how to
talk to our parents. If you remember Allah, Allah Allah says,
and don't say to them
don't even show impatience and everything greater than that. This
is how to talk to the parents and Allah subhanaw taala says about
Rasulullah sallallahu Sallam Surah who jurati says
yeah, you will Latina Ave Latifah who are swatter. confocal Sultan
Nabi
or you who have attained to fate.
Don't raise your voice
above what the Prophet is saying.
Speak softly
wala Tajmahal Rula who will co Nica Jerry, body calm Liban and
don't address him don't speak to him. The way you speak to each
other
is special. Otherwise, what will happen and DEC better local well
into latesh.
Just by doing that raising your voice talking to him. Without the
proper other. All your deeds would be voided. Nothing left and you
wouldn't even know what I did. All you did was disrespect.
In your speech, the prophet somebody's not obviously for us,
because we are not in his noble presence. We didn't have that
privilege. When we give our opinions about what Rasulullah
sallallahu some say. Somebody says this is what the Hadith says no,
but there is no but this is raising your
Voice above the voice of Rasul Allah supplies, all deeds will be
voided.
When Allah says something so man Altana what Allah so Allah Allah,
Allah, Allah Islam says anything. So Nana Otto and I hear and I, I
listen and I obey. I don't argue I don't give my opinion on top of
that.
I don't say Butch.
So this is the etiquette that we have with Rasulullah sallallahu.
So I want you to make this point before we start. Now we come to
the story of this incident. As you know, we've talked about the
responsibility the Prophet salallahu Alaihe. Salam had, and
he is constantly thinking, how can I make this Deen prevail?
So what would you think of today, we think, you know if we can get
the important people, the leaders to come into Islam, everybody else
would follow. And this has been the example.
In the past, when a ruler accepted a fate, all of his nation would
accept the fifth sort of square loss and Allah and Islam is
thinking how to promote this Dean in those days in the early days of
Makkah, where there is only a handful.
So he gets an opportunity, which he didn't frequent. To have an
audience with some of the leaders of Makkah, the leaders of Quraysh,
the important people, the decision makers, the people who everyone
looked up to.
And he figured, if I can convince them to accept Islam,
if I can make them support Islam, the work will be done. And there
will be a great boost to this Dawa. And that's logical thinking.
He's doing the right thing. Okay. So he is busy. And for some
reason, on this occasion, even though in the past, they have
ridiculed Him, they have, you know, made jokes and so on. So, a
few of them. We don't have the names of all of them. Some have
been mentioned, but I, we don't have confirmation. So we leave it
at that, that they give him time of day, if you will. They're
sitting there listening to him. So this golden opportunity to sort of
La Salatu Salam is trying to present the message of Islam to
convince these leaders and who better than Rasulullah sallallahu
recently presented the messenger Islam so he's talking to them
and this blind Sahabi by the name of Abdullah Al Maktoum comes
along. This is probably happening in the neighborhood of of the
Haram and he cannot see what is going on. Because he is blind. He
hears Rasul Allah salAllahu Salam. Now he has already accepted Islam.
He is one of the early Muslims, one of the earliest Muslims, and
he hears Rasulullah sallallahu Sallam talking
and it must have gotten really excited. Oh Rasul Allah salAllahu
Salam is here. So wherever he was going, he rushes to where he hears
Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi salam. And he asked him, he says,
eliminate teach me or is Dini guide me? Teach me what Allah has
taught you? So he's so eager to learn? Because he's a new Muslim.
He is a Muslim.
Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihe Salam is busy. This Sahabi cannot see
who he is busy with.
So Rasool allah sallallahu alayhi salam looks at him.
And he is slightly annoyed that he is interrupting me in my Dawa to
these important people who are finally listening to me.
Rasul Allah salAllahu Alaihe Salam does not tell him be quiet.
Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi salam did not tell him I will talk to
you later come back later. Or sooner Allah salAllahu Alaihe
Salam is slightly annoyed inside that he is being interrupted
because he kept going and raising his voice he's saying you're also
yah yah Muhammad Alemany hola me because he is not hearing a
response from us rule of law supplies.
So rasool Allah salAllahu Alaihe Salam in his displeasure,
just frowns.
Little follow on is and after looking at him, he turns back to
this important thing.
Now, is that the right thing to do?
In a way, yes.
He didn't scold Abdullah Al Maktoum. He just frowned and he
turned his face back towards those people to actions, neither of
which
were
Seen by Abdullah Nima to me he cannot see the frown on his face.
And you cannot see that he's doing this Facebook.
That's all that was done. And he goes on talking to them and this
goes on a little bit.
Allah subhanaw taala from this OSH
comments about these two actions with customer service
showing his displeasure
that you turned away from the blind man when he came rushing to
you, because he was enthusiastic. He wanted to learn that the and
you kept focusing your undivided attention on these people who you
thought were important but who think themselves as important they
think they're struggling or they are without need.
And you wanted to purify himself, they will never purify themselves.
Okay? In other words, Allah subhanaw taala is telling him that
you should pay more attention to this one than those important
people. Now, how does Rasulullah sallallahu Sallam know that that
they will not listen? This was his golden opportunity yet in the
sight of Allah subhanaw taala
he is teaching Rasulullah Salallahu Salam No.
Your job is not to convince them. You are just a warner conveyed
this message. This message is not such that you have to keep take
the the lower position and you're looking up to these people. No,
this message is too honorable you are too honorable to keep turning
to them to keep turning to them. If they don't want to listen, you
have presented the message there is no blame on you.
So
this In brief, is the story behind this. And since the name, Allah
subhanaw taala did not mention his name. He didn't say that. You know
that. Abdullah Al Maktoum came but our mother so yeah, Donna Aisha
Radi Allahu Ana narrates that this this is our about Abdullah evening
on the Makoto
just give you a few other things before we go into this about him.
So you're gonna have to live in Mexico. As we said he was one of
the earliest Muslims to accept the message. He was blind. He was
related to our mother Omona Khadija or the hola Juan Hawa, he
was a relative.
And he was the second person to migrate to do Hijra to Medina.
And he taught
for Iran to the unsought of Medina.
He also was honored to be one of the two more than of Masjid Nabawi
along with Sayyidina, Bilal Abdullah, Omar moto. These were
the two people who would call the other end for Rasul Allah. So
Allah is
not only that, because of his blindness, the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi salam excused him from all expeditions. In fact, there is
there is some people said that the ayah that is revealed in the Quran
elsewhere, excusing people because of the disability from warfare,
refers to him
yet, so what Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi salam used to do in Medina
when he was to leave Medina for a reservoir, taking all the able
bodied people with him, he would leave Abdullah iminium to as the
governor of Medina.
This was the responsibility that was given to you he was not
satisfied with that he was not content he came to Rasulullah
sallallahu Sallam he said, he also lost Rasul Allah Salam, I do not
want to stay back because of my blindness. And then you presented
an argument. He said, Why don't you make me the standard bearer, I
will carry the flag between the two rows of your the cavalry and
infantry, and I will carry it with you and I will protect it. And
since I am blind, I cannot run so I cannot run with the flag I will
protect
because of the Quran that was revealed on his behalf, in which
there was a slight reprimand of Rasulullah sallallahu sallam, the
Prophet salallahu Alaihe Salam used to honor him after that, that
whenever he came, the Prophet salallahu Alaihe Salam would say
mahabang Welcome to the one on whose account my lord reprimanded
me. He used to say
welcome to the to him on whose account my lord reprimanded me. In
some narrations he used to stand up in some other times he actually
put his clock down
For Abdullah ebene Makhdum to sit on
someone else if they were rebuked because of someone, what would
they have reacted to?
Here? This is Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi salam as I fill
up
so you're gonna Abdullah,
even Omen baktun was ultimately martyred in the Battle of Persia
at the time of the falafel so you didn't even know Hatha when the
armies Muslim armies and the Saudi near beaver Palace, fought and
finally defeated the Sasanian empire of Persia in that battle.
Besides the Battle of cada sia Abdullah Al Maktoum was the
standard bearer of the Muslims.
And Allah subhanaw taala accepted his Shahada. When after the
battle, they found him in the battlefield, dead clutching the
standard of the Muslims.
So he got
what he wanted what he aspired for.
By describing him as the blind man, Allah subhanaw taala also
honors him by showing that there was an excuse that he couldn't see
what was going on. That's why he kept interrupting and the Prophet
sallallahu sallam was busy.
So,
now, we come to this, as we said, that yes, there is a rebuke of
Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi salam or a reprimand.
But
it is done not because he made a mistake, he was doing the right
thing. It is that there was something better
that he could have done.
It was not to the standards that Allah has expected from him. Yet
the reprimand is done in a very different way. Now normally when
you reprimand somebody,
when you reprimand your child, you say you did this you did this,
when your your your employee or someone you said How dare you do
this, it is done in what we call the second person.
Last one, Allah did not say to the prophets address this to actions
in the second person. Allah subhanaw taala says Aversa water
well, I Basa as we said, means frown, what to Allah to Allah
means to turn away.
This is done in the third person. So the actual translation of this
is He frowned and turned away.
Allah subhanaw taala honors the prophet by not saying you frown,
and you turned away. Okay, this is a lesser gentler rebuke because
it's in the third person not in the second person
and as we said, this was only perceived by Allah subhanaw taala
Abdullah now remember to did not know the Quraysh didn't who were
there didn't care because for them he was a lowlife you know, a blind
man who was got no social status, no great nobility so they didn't
care.
Yet Allah subhanaw taala addresses this
he says and Jaya Amma because they came to him, the blind man
interrupting you.
There are two words used in Arabic for coming Jah and atta
and the scholars have said that generally Jaya is used for
something that is that has a huge impact like either Jaya or nostril
like when the help of Allah comes in Islam spread you know, either
zoo Zilla till are those deals are talking about piano. So big, big
events are addressed with Jarrah
the coming and atta lesser Yet Allah smart Allah has mentioned
this small incident with either an angel with Judah means this is
something big.
Then Allah subhanaw taala says wema you rica Lala who yes Zeca
when you rica but what could tell you or what could make you know?
Lala who perhaps he
II means Abdullah ibn Al Maktoum. Yes Zakka or yet as Zakka here
it's yes Zakka the original for me yet Zakka means he would grow, he
would purify himself. He would grow in understanding of the name.
What would in other words, Allah smart Allah is now after that
first thing is making an excuse for us to Allah salAllahu Salam,
and now addressing him in second person
by saying Rama, you recap what would make you know, he's not what
would make him no animal, what would make you know that perhaps
he would be purified? In other words, you would know that he
would be purified. So this is an excuse that Allah subhanaw taala
say perhaps that's the reason.
And again, Yes, Zack can we talked about the third Skia and the last
surah. Again, talking about purifying himself from all that
Allah Swatara. This slide starting first with the belief, which is
the is the skier of our Eman from all forms of real hidden, subtle
shift to the aid of Allah. And then purification of our character
from all the negative character traits and bad habits, that Allah
subhanaw taala saying that, perhaps if you had talked to him,
and given him your attention, he would have learned enough because
he came to you. And it would have helped him to purify itself. But
you didn't know.
Oh, yes, that girl
for 10 Five with the camera.
Or he may be reminded, oh, yes, that girl. And that reminder
because he will be reminded by the Quran, that remembrance that
reminder, for 10 FAO who it would have been beneficial for him, it
would have benefited him. You did not know that. If you had paid
attention to him. You are torching instead of those low lives, the
real low lives even though they were the leaders of Makkah,
because their hearts were corrupt.
That in this way, if you had addressed him, he could have
learned it would have been beneficial for him. He could have
purified himself. So Allah subhanaw taala say, and this would
have been the benefit if you had addressed him, but you did not
know wama you rica
this word? You three guys only use three places in the Quran.
Many most places it says a Draka if you remember it comes from the
same dark mama drama you're with the you know, the mama or the
Rockaway and or the Raka. And you rica you Rica. Some have said that
you drinka not only means what? What would let you know, but it
implies that you will never know you would have never know because
you don't know what is inside the hearts of people. The other places
why this word you recurrent to other places that it comes in the
Quran, it has to do with the Sangha, the coming of the day of
judgment and of the Day of Judgment itself, that the Prophet
salallahu Alaihe Salam will never know when the day of judgment is
okay, nobody knows only Allah. So, this Eureka
also implies that you did not know and you will learn.
We have to study the word of Allah subhanaw taala. Reflect on the
words our lessons should not be just that we attend one hour of
this and then we forget what impact the surah have on me. What
am I going to change in my life as we keep reminding ourselves,
we study to implement we study to change we study to become better
human beings, better Muslims better, a bad of Allah subhanaw
taala. So may Allah subhanaw taala help us to understand his words,
to reflect on them to internalize them and make them part of our
character and be for his pleasure not to show and impress people for
His pleasure only with the class and we strive doing that till
Allah subhanaw taala who has already caught Daraa who has
written for us, calls us back to him and that he calls us back to
him in a state where we are in that state that he is used to this
me. So Chanukah Lama Hambrick Nasha do Allah ilaha illa Mustafa
Roca on a tube
