That there are several ways to guide anybody.
But the most reliable way is to give
the person a compass
to find direction,
a map with details of the route, and
a guide
to take them to their destination.
And that is what Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
did.
He gave us the compass,
the Quran,
a map,
the sunnah,
and the guide
The one who rejects any of these
is in effect rejecting guidance.
Abu Hurair
reported in the Sahih Hadith in Bukhari
Everyone
will enter Jannah
except
those who refuse.
They asked him,
You Rasulullah,
O Messenger of Allah,
who will refuse?
Rasulullah
said, whoever obeys me enters Jannah, and whoever
disobeys me has refused.
Ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
to make us
among those who obey
and emulate.
About obeying Rasool Allah
Set a unique
standard
and he declared
he took an oath by himself. He said,
But,
no, by your rub, they will never be
true believers, they will never have
judge in their disputes
and find no resistance within themselves
against your decision
and submit to your decision wholeheartedly.
As we know,
sin is culpable,
punishable
only when it is committed
either by speech or action.
Not when you think
or feel
disobedient
or rebellious,
except in the case of Rasulullah
With his rulings, Allah
declared that the condition of Iman, of faith,
is not just, it
is not just a sin He's talking about.
It's a condition of iman.
A boundary condition
is to accept his ruling
in any matter
and not only to do that visibly, but
also internally
and to do that wholeheartedly
without any resistance to it in our hearts.
This is the reason
it is so important to know Rasool Allah
sallam
and to love him more than we love
any other human being.
Only then can we develop the trust that
is necessary to accept
whatever he told us because we know
that his source of knowledge was superior to
ours
and that he always wanted the best for
us and that whatever he told us, he
had been guided to say that by Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala declared,
Allah said nor does he speak of his
own volition.
He does not speak of it by his
own wish.
It is only a revelation
that is sent down to him.
This reinforces for us that what comes from
Rasulullah
is always beneficial and important and so must
be followed.
Allah
declared very simply and powerfully
without any reservations or boundaries,
The one who obeys the Messenger has obeyed
Allah, but whoever turns away
then know that we have not sent you,
O Muhammad SAWHAN,
as a keeper
over them.
Allah
declared the fundamental principle of obedience to Rasool
Allah
and he said,
Allah said which means
whatever the Messenger gives you, whatever the Messenger
gives you, take it. And whatever He forbids
you from,
leave it
and fear Allah.
Surely Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is severe
in punishment.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala commands us,
do whatever he tells you
and stay away from whatever he forbids you.
This blanket statement shows
that Rasool
Rasool can never command anything that is contrary
to the will of Allah.
Abu Hurrah narrated in Hadith,
Sahih Hadith in Bukhari and Muslim
which means he said, I heard
say
what I have forbidden
for you, stay away from it. What I
have forbidden for you, leave it. Stay away
from it. What I have ordered you to
do,
do as much of it as you can.
For verily,
it was only their excessive questioning and disagreeing
with the prophets
that destroyed the nations who were before you.
The principle therefore
is to do what Rasool, as salam,
ordered us to do to the best of
our ability,
but to stop totally whatever he forbid.
He did not tell us to stop to
the best of our ability.
Stop totally and instantly.
What he told us to do, do that
as much as you can to the best
of your ability.
We see the example of this in the
seerah when Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala revealed.
Allah say, oh believers,
intoxicants,
gambling,
idols
and drawing lots for decisions,
fortune telling are all evil
work of Shaytan.
So shun them
so that you may be
ayah,
they immediately stopped
drinking wine. They didn't ask for time.
They didn't argue about it. They obeyed.
That is the secret of their success,
obedience
and that is what is required also from
us.
The agent,
He said, I was serving Abu Ubaydah,
Abu Talha
and Ubayd bin Kab
with a drink,
alcoholic
drink prepared from ripe and unripe dates.
So it was a date wine.
Then somebody came to them and said alcoholic
drinks have been prohibited. Then the Ayat was
revealed
and this was informed to them. On hearing
that,
Abu Talha said, get up on us and
throw it away. So I threw it out.
In another hadith,
Haraz bin Malik Adelano narrates, while I was
waiting on my uncles
and serving them with wine prepared from dates
and I was the youngest of them. It
was said alcoholic drinks have been prohibited.
They said to me, throw it away, so
I threw it away.
The amazing thing is that not only did
the Sahaba throw
away the alcohol,
They did it all over Badinah. It was
a it was an industry there. So there
was a huge quantity of of wine in
different stages of fermentation and making.
All of this was thrown, and wine was
they say that it was flowing in the
street like like water.
And then they smashed the utensils
in which this wine was stored.
When Rasulullah
was informed, he asked them. He called them.
He asked them. Why did you break the
utensils? You could have washed them and used
them for something else. They said, we did
not even want to be reminded of the
time when we used to disobey Allah.
I imagine before this
how come for complete prohibition
came, there was no prohibition.
If when they were drinking wine before this
how come before the revelation
of this ayah, they were not disobeying.
Yet they said that even though it has
been
prohibited after that,
we don't want to be reminded of our
time when we used to do this.
This is the meaning of love of Allah
and the desire to obey him as perfectly
as we can. Not some minimalist thinking of
just doing the, you know, ticking the boxes.
This is true love for all of us.
They're wanting to do the best and the
and and the most beautiful way in which
to do it.
My brothers and sisters, I remind myself of
you that alcohol is not called the mother
of evil for nothing.
It is the worst of all addictions and
even someone even someone who has managed to
overcome his alcohol addiction for 20 years
will get hooked if he takes just one
drink.
Yet the Sahara, many of whom consumed alcohol
daily
and habitually
left it instantly
without any argument or the need for any
enforcement
or any detox clinics and so on and
so on.
Contrast this with what happened in America.
I quote from Wikipedia.
The prohibition era was the period from 1920
to 1933.
That's 13 years
when the United States prohibited the production, importation,
transportation,
and sale of alcoholic beverages.
The alcohol industry was curtailed by a succession
of state legislatures and finally ended
nationwide
under the 18th amendment to the United States
Constitution,
ratified on 16 January 1919.
Now listen carefully. The 18th amendment was passed
in 1919 with a 68%
super majority in the House of Representatives
and 76%
support in the Senate and was ratified
by 46
out of the then 48
states. But prohibition ended with the ratification
of the 21st Amendment,
which repealed
the 18th Amendment on December
5, 1933.
So in 1919
or 1920, it was enforced.
In 1933, they had to remove it.
The voting for the prohibition, if you look
at that, showed that people really appreciated its
harm and wanted to save society
from it.
Millions were spent on enforcement.
Thousands of people were incarcerated.
But after 13 years, the nation gave up
and permitted it again. A change of heart
cannot be enforced.
It has to come from within.
Allah
sent
us to succeed.
He showed us the way to succeed
and told us that His Messenger
was someone we must follow in every aspect
of our lives to succeed.
That is why Allah
gave him a life which has something for
us to learn in every situation that we
may be in.
If you are a ruler and you want
to rule with justice and compassion,
study the Seerah of Muhammad
If you are an employee
and want to earn the trust of your
employer,
study the Seerah of Muhammad
If you want to be the best father,
the best husband, the best teacher, the best
employer,
the best military or civil leader,
the best friend or neighbor,
study the seerah
of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam. Allah
cited
Rasoolullah as the best example and ordered anyone
who believes in the Asherah to study the
Seerah.
He said,
He
said,
He said, which means indeed
in the messenger of Allah, you have an
excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah
and the last day and
often.
If you read the description of the day
of judgment,
it is something terrifying to be feared.
Likewise, the meeting with Allah
which is inescapable
and inevitable
and given our lives something to be feared,
except for those who have a special status.
Those who loved and followed.
Please understand this love alone is not enough
love and following.
They can look forward inshallah
to that day and that meeting
with anticipation
of protection from the horrors and reward for
obedience.
The icing on the cake is that those
who live and relating Rasool
will also become the most beloved, respected and
influential people in society,
just as he was. His life is proof
of concept that Islam works for those who
use it. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
Allah said, which means today I have perfected
your faith for you and completed my favor
upon you and chosen Islam as your way,
as your religion.
This is the deen that Rasulullah
brought, the deen that Allah
chose for us and and sent his beloved
messengers, Allah, to teach us.
Rasool Allah, SAW, brought one deen. Islam didn't
come in different flavors and varieties to suit
our desires.
Our desires must be trained to subject themselves
to the will of Allah
Islam is complete
and good for all time.
Anyone who wants to change Islam or to
improve it or reform it or restructure it
or make it more or less in any
way has left Islam because by their speech
and effort, they are saying that what Allah
declared
was false,
that the deen is not complete
and must be altered
for those who see closeness to Allah
He
declared that they should emulate
not just obey but emulate.
Emulate is the sincerest
demonstration of love, and Allah
said that he loves the one who emulates
Muhammad
So ask ourselves,
do we want Allah to love us?
Think about that. Ask yourself, what is the
value of becoming someone that Allah loves?
What is the value
of becoming
someone who Allah
loves.
If we as believers,
if we as believers
and hopefully Momini, we ask Allah for this.
We're given this option of having Allah love
us
for a price.
What would we pay?
What would we pay?
Ahmadre HaNatellah
not only gave it to us free,
but
with the additional benefit
of the opportunity
to become the most beloved,
influential,
respected,
and powerful person in the
community.
Allah, then follow me. Emulate me.
Emulate me
and Allah will love you and forgive your
sins. For Allah is all forgiving,
most merciful.
The forgiveness of all sins and entry into
Jannah
is the boundary condition, is the minimum that
Allah will give us when we love His
messenger, Muhammad, and
we are
and we demonstrate that love by,
showing our, by, by emulating him and following
him. Our relationship with Rasool alaihi wa sallam
is a relationship of immense love
emanating from our immense gratitude for his guiding
us to Islam.
Islam is not a personal thing, neither is
it optional. It is essential and a critical
part of our belief because love is the
basis of trust, and trust is the basis
of guidance.
The one who loves the Surah Al Salam
will obey him, and so will be guided
to Jannah. And as
reported that Rasulullah
said, none of you have faith.
None of you have faith
I am more beloved to him than his
children,
his parents,
and all the people.
None of you has faith
until I am
more beloved to him
than his children,
his father, and all the people.
Finally, Allah
made it completely and totally clear
the position of loving Allah
and the messenger Muhammad Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said,
Allah
said
in
say
oh
prophet.
If your parents
and children
and siblings and spouses
and extended family and the wealth that you
have acquired
and the trade that you fear will decline
and the homes you cherish.
If all of these
are more beloved to you than Allah and
his messenger and struggling in the path of
Allah,
then wait until Allah brings about his will
until Allah brings down his punishment.
Allah does not guide
the rebellious people.
SubhanAllah,
think about that. Allah is
promising punishment for those
who do not love Allah and His Messenger
more than
they love
all the things that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
made halal
and He
in about some of those things Allah
told us to love them. Allah warned us
about not loving them. For example, love for
parents,
being dutiful to the parents. Allah doesn't do
this.
But when it comes to obedience of Allah,
obey Allah and not the parents who try
to guide you towards
disobedience of Allah.
My brothers and sisters,
loving Allah and loving the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam
is not an option. This is part of
our aqidah.
These are more beloved to you. And as
I mentioned before,
none of them is haram.
Loving your parents, your spouses, your children, your
your family and so on and so forth.
Let loving halal wealth, loving a house that
you have built with halal wealth. Loving your
halal business, alhamdulillah, all of these are good
things.
But
if they exceed
in love,
if they exceed our love for Allah and
His Messenger, then
Allah promised us punishment.
And Allah did not simply leave it at
that. He did not say if you love
them
more. Allah said,
Allah said, if you love them more than
Allah is the Messenger
and if you love that more than struggling
in the path of Allah. So action and
struggle in the path of Allah is evidence.
The willingness to give up what we have
in this life
for the pleasure of Allah is evidence of
this love, and Allah is saying show that
evidence. Allah knows it is there or not
there. But unless you show it.
Finally,
I want to close with a beautiful hadith.
Merited
again,
a man asked Rasulullah
about the hour,
about the day of judgment. He said, when
will the hour be,
Rasulullah? Rasulullah asked
him, what have you prepared for it?
The man said nothing
except that I love Allah and his Rasool.
Rasool
said, you will be with those you love.
Says, we were never so happy
as we were on hearing that
saying,
you will be with those whom you love.
Then he added, he said, therefore,
I love
Rasoolullah
and
I love Abu Bakr
and Omar,
and
I hope I will be with them because
of my love for them, though my deeds
are not like this.
Now remember, this is Anas bin Malik
speaking. This is not you and me. So
when he says my deeds are not there
and so on so on, let's make sure
that we keep this in perspective.
Ask Allah
to fill our hearts with love for Rasulullah
and to make us walking, talking models
of his life. I ask to fill our
lives
with the barakah of the noor of the
seerah of and
his sunnah
so that our lives become full of goodness
and grace and the means of benefiting all
those
who are with us and around
us.
