Stand for Peace, Amherst

Bismillah wa Salatu was Salam ala Rasulillah, whereby

I begin in the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful, and send salutations on our Master Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam peace and blessings be upon him.

We stand here today for peace.

We stand here together, because it is possible that it may be said about us that we failed to stop oppression. But it must never be said about us that we failed to protest.

We are here to protest against the horrific aggression of Vladimir Putin and the war that he has unleashed on Ukraine. We stand with the people of Ukraine and against Putin.

We stand here even more for justice.

Because peace is an effect. Peace is not the cause. The cause of peace is justice. Until justice is established, peace can never happen.

All injustice is evil, and must be resisted and defeated. The most beautiful self test for justice is what our Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam peace and blessings be upon him said a Bedouin came to the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam

grabbed the stirrup of his camel and asked, he said, Yasser Allah, or messenger of Allah, teach me something to go to heaven with.

He, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him said, as you would have people do to you do to them, and what you dislike being done to you, don't do to them.

Compare this to the famous story about the great Rabbi Hillel, once there was a Gentile, who came to Shamai and said to him, convert me on the condition that you teach me the whole Torah. While I stand on one foot.
