Peace and blessings of Allah be upon you.
May peace and blessings of Allah be upon
you.
It's a beautiful question.
Iman comes in waves, high and low.
And this varies throughout the day.
So, in the morning, I feel very, maybe
I went for Salatul Fajr in the masjid,
I feel very energetic, I feel very full
of Iman and Yaqeen and so on.
Then afterwards, something happens, Iman goes out and
so on.
It happens throughout the day.
Second thing is I make a sin, I
commit a sin, I make istighfar.
And then after some time, I commit another
sin, or maybe I commit the same one
again, same kind of thing again.
And then I make istighfar again, and then
after some time, I do another sin.
And then I make istighfar, and somewhere in
my mind, I'm thinking, will Allah really forgive
me or not?
Because I'm going on and on and on,
same thing, doesn't stop.
How many times will I say sorry to
Allah?
I feel ashamed about that also.
So, will Allah forgive me or not forgive
me?
That's the question.
Let me answer that in the form of
two hadith.
In one hadith, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,
a slave commits a sin.
And then he goes to Allah and says,
Ya Rabbi, O my Rab, forgive me.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, my slave
knows that he has a Rab who forgives,
so I forgive him.
Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, some time passes,
and the slave commits another sin.
Maybe it's the same kind of sin, maybe
some other sin.
Then he turns to his Rab, Jalla Jalaluhu,
and he says, He says, O my Rab,
please forgive me.
So, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, my
slave knows that he has a Rab who
forgives, I forgive him.
The same exact thing which you said.
After some time, the slave commits another sin.
And he does the same thing.
He says, Ya Rabbi, O my Rab, please
forgive me.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, my slave
knows that he has a Rab who forgives,
I forgive him.
I let him do whatever he wants, I
forgive him.
Now, this let him do whatever he wants
does not mean now you have a license
to do as many sins, no.
It means that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is saying, never, never, never despair of the
mercy of Allah.
How many times will Allah forgive?
As many times as you ask forgiveness.
How about I maybe ask forgiveness one million
times?
Allah will forgive you one million times.
Allah will actually forgive you one million and
one.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, if my
slave comes to me, I am only translating
Ahadith, not my words.
These are only the words of Rasulullah sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam.
And in some cases, Ahadith Qudsiya which Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala mentioned.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, if my
slave comes to me, with sins that cover
the space between the earth and the heavens.
Imagine how much that is.
What kind of person that must be?
How can anyone even commit so many sins?
Okay, you commit some, but between the earth
and the heaven?
He says, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
if my slave comes to me with sins
that occupy, that fill the space between the
earth and the heavens, I will meet him
with forgiveness greater than that.
Shard is, he must ask me without shirk.
He must not put anything else in between.
He comes to me with those sins and
he makes his dhikr and tawbah, he asks
me to forgive him and he asks me
without shirk, ask me alone, he says, I
will meet him with forgiveness bigger than that.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, a
man went to a Sheikh, and he said,
I have committed these sins, will Allah forgive
me?
And the Sheikh says, Allah cannot forgive you.
You have committed so many sins, you will
never be forgiven.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, this man,
this human being, he is trying to limit
me and limit my mercy.
So, I forgive the one who committed the
sins and I put this Sheikh into Jahannam.
Because the man who went to him went
with hope that Allah might forgive me.
And this man, he cut off his hope
and he said, no, Allah can never forgive
you.
Who are you to say Allah cannot forgive
you?
You control Allah.
Allah is in your control.
Allah is going to ask your permission.
So, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, this
man is trying to limit me, limit my
power.
Allah can do this, can't do that.
Who are you to say this?
So, Allah says, I have forgiven the one
who committed the sins and I will put
this man into Jahannam.
Another hadith, a man went to, a man
committed 99 murders.
99 murders.
So, he's a serial killer of, sort of,
you know, seriously, a serial killer.
So, he gets some, see, the thing we
have to understand is, there is a spark
of goodness in every human being until he
dies.
No matter how evil that person may seem
to be, even today, as I'm speaking, I'm
thinking of names in my head.
How can there be a spark of goodness
in that person?
But, there will be something, Allah knows best.
So, this man goes, he has killed 99
people.
So, he goes to a Sheikh and he
says, I have killed 99 people and I
want to ask Allah to forgive me, but
I want to know, do you think Allah
can forgive me?
Allah will forgive me.
So, this Sheikh says, you are impossible, you
are an incorrigible man.
Allah cannot forgive you.
So, this guy pulls out his sword and
he cuts off the Sheikh's neck also.
OK, now I've finished 100.
So, obviously, the man had some serious issues
with him, no?
You can't just go around killing people.
Anyway, he used to do that.
So, he finished 100.
So, now what happens?
So, now he goes to find another one.
Another Sheikh.
And he says to him, look, I killed
99 people.
Then I went to this other man, I
asked him, will Allah forgive me?
The man said, Allah cannot forgive you, so
I killed him also.
Now I've got 100.
Now, what do you think?
Will Allah forgive me or not forgive me?
So, that Sheikh was obviously an intelligent guy.
So, the Sheikh said, no, no, Allah can
forgive you, but he said, do one thing.
He said, go to such and such a
place.
He told him the name of a place.
He said, go to that place.
That place has good people.
That town has good people.
So, what is he saying?
He's saying, look, you seem to be living
in a company which is a bad company.
That's how you got like this.
You can't just go killing people, but you
seem to be living among people where this
is OK.
How come nobody stopped you till now?
So, that kind of company you have.
So, get out from this company first.
So, he said, go to that town.
That town has good people.
Go there and make istighfar and tawba.
Allah and Subhanahu wa ta'ala inshallah will
forgive you.
So, the man said, good.
He left him.
He started walking.
He took some steps and he died.
He didn't reach the other place.
Without reaching the other place, just a short
distance from where he left, his khaza came,
his mouth came, he died.
So, Rasulullah said, the angels of Jahannam and
the angels of Jannah both came there to
this man's body.
The angels of Jahannam said, this one is
ours.
Quite clearly, this one belongs to us.
We are taking him.
The angels of Jahannam said, no, no, hold
on.
This is not so.
This is a complicated case.
This man was going to make tawba.
So, if he makes tawba, Allah would have
forgiven him, so then he would be ours.
So, you can't take him.
So, the angels of Jahannam said, no, no,
he was going and he would have made
all this is our future.
He did not do it.
He did not make tawba.
So, as far as we are concerned, he
is still culpable, he is still punishable, therefore
he is ours.
So, they decide to go to Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala to decide.
And of course, Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
knows all that is happening.
So, the angels land there before Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
They say, Ya Rabbi, this is the situation.
This man left.
He was going there to make tawba to
this place.
He didn't reach there.
He shot distance from the original place.
He died.
He did not reach the destination.
Now, we are having a debate.
Should the angels of Jahannam take him or
should the angels of Jahannam take him?
So, Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala says to
them, go down there and measure the earth.
Measure the distance.
Say, for example, the distance is 10 miles.
If he has passed the halfway mark, then
he belongs to whichever angels are on that
side.
So, if he walked more than 5 miles,
then he belongs to the angels of Jahannam.
They can take him.
If he walked less than 5 miles, then
he belongs to the angels of Jahannam.
Now, this 5 miles and all, I'm saying
this to illustrate.
The hadith does not have 5 miles in
it, but meaning the distance in it.
The angels went down and Allah Subhanahu wa
ta'ala ordered the earth to stretch when
they are measuring.
When they are measuring, Allah Subhanahu wa ta
'ala ordered the earth to stretch so that
it seems that he passed the halfway mark
and he was with Allah.
And I want to close with this because
Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala said, O
My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do
not despair of the mercy of Allah.
Allah forgives all sins.
He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Allah says, see this ayah is so hajjif,
the Kalam of Allah.
May Allah have mercy on us, we don't
read it, we don't understand it, we don't
reflect on it.
See this ayah.
Allah says, say, Ya Ibadi, O My slaves.
Hajji, Allah ta'ala ki rahmat.
Truly we cannot, we can never thank Allah
as He deserves to be thanked.
Never.
Allah says, say, My slaves.
Who are My slaves?
Alladhina asrafu ala anfusihim.
Those who have transgressed against themselves.
What is the meaning of transgressed against?
Those who have committed sins.
Just see the language of the Kalam of
Allah.
See, in many homes and so on, my
father used to do this, if we did
something wrong, he would tell my mother, see
what your son has done.
And if I did something good, he would
say, see what my son has done.
You do something wrong, the father will tell
the mother, see what your son did.
And the son does something good and the
daughter does something, see what my son did,
see what my daughter did.
So, this is the meaning of transgressed against.
Depending on, say, if the person pleases me,
he's my son, my daughter.
If he displeases me, he's yours.
This is a normal thing, the one who
displeases you, you would distance him.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the
opposite.
Ya Ibadi, My slaves.
Allah is calling, I think you are mine.
My slaves.
One who are Ibadullah, who are the Ibadullah?
Who are the ones who Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala calls Ibadi?
Who are the ones who Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala says, My slaves.
Asrafu ala anfusihim, those who committed sin.
What is a sin?
A sin is disobedience of Allah, ma'siya.
Allah did not say, those who have disobeyed
Me.
Allah said, the sin is on you.
Transgressed against themselves.
Allah could have said, transgressed against My rights.
Which is a fact, if I leave Salah,
I am transgressing against Myself, no doubt.
I am destroying Myself, but I am also
disobeying the hukum of Allah.
Allah said, Rahimu Salah, I said, no, you
wait.
I am busy.
Or I don't pray at all.
So, I am disobeying, Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala said, say to those who disobeyed Me.
He could have said this.
He did not say this.
And Allah could have said, say to those
who disobeyed Me.
Allah said, say, tell them, oh My slaves.
Those who have transgressed against themselves.
La taqnatu min rahmatillah, never lose hope in
the mercy of Allah.
Never lose hope, never despair of the mercy
of Allah.
Inna Allaha, inna, which is a harf of
taqid.
Inna Allaha.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala could have said,
Allahu yaghfiru dhunuba jamee'an.
He didn't say, he said, inna Allaha.
Surely and truly and without doubt and definitely,
Allah yaghfiru dhunuba jamee'an.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala forgives all sins.
Everything, Allah will forgive everything.
Allah will even forgive shirk and kufr if
you make istighfar and tawbah.
If you die on shirk and kufr, there
is no forgiveness.
But if you, in your life, otherwise how
does somebody enter Islam?
Because he's making shirk, he's making kufr, he
makes istighfar, tawbah, Allah forgives him and he
comes into Islam.
So in the life itself, Allah says, yaghfiru
dhunuba jamee'an.
Inna Allaha yaghfiru dhunuba jamee'an.
Truly and definitely, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
forgives all sins.
Now think about this.
The meaning of the ayah is complete.
But Allah does not stop there.
Allah says, innahu huwal ghafoorur raheem.
He is the one who is the most
forgiving, most merciful.
See, what was the need for this?
This is the glory of Allah.
There was no need for the linguistic meaning.
The meanings of the ayat were wasted.
This is the glory of Allah.
The meaning of the ayah was clear.
Linguistically, it was not required.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is glorious.
Allah says, truly Allah is the one who
forgives everything.
And then Allah says, truly Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala is the most forgiving, most merciful.
So if we commit sins again and again,
don't do it deliberately.
Obviously, that does not mean, this is not
a license to say do it all the
time.
No.
Sahaba came to the Prophet and said, Ya
Rasulullah, please make dua that we should not
commit any sins.
Rasulullah said, if you became masoom, if you
became people who committed no sins, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala would remove you and put
people who committed sin and make istighfar.
Allah likes to forgive.
Again, that does not mean do it, please
understand this.
We are not trying to say here that
we should do.
It is not the shaan of the Muslim,
of the mu'min, to deliberately and consciously and
knowingly disobey Allah.
No.
Disobedience only through forgetfulness.
There is a difference between a mistake and
a crime.
Mistake and a crime.
Yes or no?
Yes.
What is the difference?
Correct, exactly.
Unknowingly or knowingly.
If the same thing is done accidentally, may
Allah keep you all safe always.
But supposing you are driving and you knock
something accidentally, it's an accident.
Supposing you, a man comes across the road
and you knock him.
And he dies.
Worst case scenario, either nothing happens to you
at all because the man just ran into
the road, it was not your fault.
But supposing the man comes into the road,
there is enough distance, you know the thing,
you recognise the man and you say, this
one is the one I want to finish
off.
So you line up your car in Delhi.
The action is the same, which is that
you ran over somebody, you killed somebody with
your car.
But in one case you will walk free,
in the other case you will hang.
If it can be proved that deliberately you
killed somebody, then it is murder, it's first
degree murder that you murdered the man with
your car, knowingly, deliberately.
So one is in that, that takes a
mistake which way you walk free and converts
it into a first degree murder where you
hang, it is your intention.
So deliberately never do any sin.
We don't want to challenge Allah.
But we are human.
All the children of Adam made mistakes.
The Prophet said, all the children of Adam
made mistakes.
He said, the best of those who make
mistakes are those who make tawbah.
So make istighfar, ask Allah to forgive.
Alhamdulillah.
Peace and blessings of Allah be upon the
Prophet and his family and companions.
