Allah
said in the famous ayat of Suratul Hazab
which we all know,
which means indeed
Allah
showers His blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad
and
Allah angels, his angels pray for him. The
malaikah pray for him.
O believers, and this is a hakum. O
believers,
invoke
call for mikdua
for Allah's
blessings upon him
and salute him, meaning greet him with worthy
greeting of peace.
Greet him with.
He
is the one who Allah
praised
and blessed,
and the malaika
sent blessings upon him.
And Allah
ordered all Muslims until the end of time
to do the same.
What can be more honorable than that?
Allah promised,
One of my favorite
of the Quran. 1 of the one of
the of the greatest hope. In Surah Al
Anfal, Allah said, but Allah would never punish
them while you,
O Muhammad
were in their midst while you were with
them,
nor would he ever punish them if they
pray for forgiveness.
This shows the importance of making stafar seeking
forgiveness
from Allah
To have Rasulullah
with us,
to have him in our midst
in today
after his passing away means
for
us to
follow him,
for us to make his,
for us to obey whatever he told us
to do.
I remind myself when you that remember
that even when he was physically present,
his companions, his sahabah,
were only those who believed in him
and followed him.
Not those who were
physically in his presence.
Not those who were around him, but didn't
believe in him.
Not people like,
Abu Tali, for example, who loved him, who
was with him, who protected him, who helped
him, but he never believed in him as
the Rasool of Allah.
Not even those who believed him, but didn't
follow him, because he was known as a
saadhu qullamid.
He was highly trustworthy, highly credible,
but people believed him, but they didn't follow
him. They were not from the Sahaba. We
ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
to include us with the Sahaba
of Rasulullah
when we are resurrected before him. Jalajalahu
and we ask Allah to be pleased with
us as he was pleased
with the Sahaba.
Rizwarullahi
alayhi alayhi.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala
reiterated
and emphasized
the position
of Rasool Allah SWALLAM
and he said
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said which means, indeed
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has done the believers
a great favor by raising a messenger
from among them,
reciting to them his revelations, his ayaat, purifying
them,
teaching them
the Kitab, Wal Hikma, the book and wisdom
for indeed they had previously
been clearly astray.
Allah sabbana wa taal is telling us very
clearly
that without Muhammad sallallahu alaihi salam,
please notice here,
Allah is not saying without the kitab. He
is saying without the
mwalimul kitab,
Without the teacher of the book, you are
misguided. Even if you have the book in
your hand, it will not help you if
you reject the teacher
of the book. We ask Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala think about this. We ask Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala
to navigate
us to Jannah
at least 17 times a day. The person
who is praying 5,
the 5 for salawat,
only the 4, he is saying,
17 times every day.
Add up all the rakaat, so tufatia is
a rugul, is a pillar of the salah
without which the salah is not complete and
the salah is not valid. Then we say
hidrasirat almustakeem, we say, O Allah, guide us
to siradulmustakeem.
What is siradulmustakeem?
Siradul ladheenaanamtalayhim.
The path
of those who Allah
blessed.
Who did Allah
bless? Allah said,
The hinam of Allah. The blessing of Allah
has been on the on the on the
on the prophets
and on the siddiquor
and on the salihid
and on the shukhada and the salihid.
And in those ambiya,
who is the
leader of them? Who is the imam ul
ambiya? Who is the Sayyid ul Bursaleel? Muhammadu
Muhammadu Rasoolallahu alaihi wa sallam. Allah Subhanahu wa
Ta'ala addressed him by his by one of
his names. He called him Yaseel,
which is one of the names of the
prophet
He said Yaseel and Allah then took an
oath by the Quran.
Allah said, you see it, wal Quranil
Hakim.
Allah is swearing and taking an oath
by the kitab. And Allah said, this is
a book of great hikmab, great wisdom. And
Allah
reemphasizing.
Truly
and surely
you are among
the messengers, among
Allah say innaqalaminal nabiyeen. Allah say innaqalaminal
bursaleen.
The position of the Rasul is higher than
the abiya. And then the nabi. Innaqalaminal
bursaleen
ala sirati mustaqim. And you are on the
sirati mustaqim.
Which sirat al mustaqib? The one we are
asking Allah
for 17 times a day. Ihdras sirat al
mustaqib. Therefore, sirat al mustaqib
is what? It is the
path of Muhammad
And
we ask Allah,
Allah granted our dua.
And he gave us and
told us to follow his way.
But then the question to ask is, do
we follow that direction
or something else?
That direction is called the sunnah.
The sunnah is the way of Muhammad
That way is
We ask for it. Allah
gave it. Let us not be deceived by
anyone or anything
and leave the sunnah because that is the
only way to Jannah. There is no other
way. There is one way to Jannah. And
that way, that road, that highway, that pathway,
that
Sirat is called, Sirat Mustaqib, which is Sirat
al Nabi
Allah
told us that the life of this world
is deception,
and the truth
and reality hides behind
what is apparent, And that is what we
must see. And that is why the Dua,
where we ask Allah,
Allah,
We ask Allah to do that for us,
inshallah.
My brothers and sisters,
Allah
in his infinite mercy didn't leave us guessing
and inventing our own ways to deal with
the matrix,
the ultimate deception.
He set a guide
and an entire pilot program as
proof of concept that Islam works in all
times. That is why Allah
coerced
the Sunnah of Rasulullah
to be preserved with such amazing integrity.
We owe a huge, huge, huge debt of
gratitude which we cannot possibly
fulfill and we cannot possibly repay. We can
only ask Allah
to bless those
who,
through the ages,
through the centuries, starting from the Sahaba, rizwaabullahi,
alayhi majbayin themselves, starting from the wives of
mothers
of wives of Rasool
who are our mothers.
His own his own
daughter Fatima tul Zahra, and
all his family and then all the Sahaba
and so on. Coming down through the ages,
they preserved
the minutest
details
of the life,
of his appearance of his Shamayl,
of the details of his life, his actions,
his ways, his teachings, his likes and dislikes.
These were preserved
for the benefit of all those who love
him. I ask Allah to
include me and you among those who love
Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Salamu Salam
more than we love anyone or anything
else in this life
illallah
except Allah.
These were preserved for people who love Muhammad
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
for them to learn them and to follow
them. Not just to
have them
and make,
nashid and naat
and poetry and singh, but to live by
them.
This gave rise, incidentally, this whole issue of,
the preservation of the way of the sunnah,
gave rise to an entire body of knowledge,
ilmun rijal,
that has no parallel. There is no
history in the world of anybody that has
been preserved with such rigour and passion
and in such amazing detail. Nobody.
May Allah SWT enabled us to benefit from
the treasure
of the life of Rasool SAW
which he blessed us with. That is why
Allah SWT declared
that he
SAW is the best example to follow in
all aspects of life. Allah said, lakat kana
lakum firasoolillahiuswatunhasaratunlemankariyarzwallahuallahuallahuallahuallahuallakathira.
Allah said, indeed, in the messenger of Allah,
you have an excellent example
for whoever has hope in Allah
and the last day and remembers Allah
a great deal.
We ask Allah
to make us among them, inshallah.
Allah
gave his messenger
an amazing life
that encompassed
every aspect of human existence
from the individual
to family, to business, to employment, to building
a community,
to creating laws, being a law giver, to
commanding an army, to ruling a state,
and Allah
told us to follow
the way of his messenger
in every aspect of our lives.
There is none of us who are going
to have a life with all of these
aspects in the same one life. Rasool
had them.
And Allah said that this is for those
who look forward to the meeting
with Allah
A meeting which is inevitable,
which will happen for everyone, but only those
will look forward to that,
who expect
a good outcome from that meeting. We ask
Allah to make us among them.
And then for those
who love Muhammad
Allah
promised to love them and he directed Muhammad
to announce this and he said,
Allah said, say, O Prophet Muhammad
say to these people who claim to love
Allah, say to them, if you sincerely love
Allah,
then emulate me,
follow me, make my
and Allah
will love you and forgive your sins.
For Allah
is all forgiving
and most merciful.
Emulation is the sincerest form of praise,
and the proof of love.
The reward
is
love of Allah.
The reward is to be loved by Allah.
Just stay with this.
Stay with this thought for a bit,
and feel it in your heart,
that you are the beloved of Allah.
Beloved of Allah. Not somebody who just liked
and so on. Beloved of Allah. And ask,
is it worth it?
Narrated, Anas bin Malik
He said a man
asked Rasool
about the hour. He said, when will the
day of judgement come?
When will the hour be? Rasool
asked him,
what have you prepared for it?
Now see the
the response of the Sahaba,
and,
when the when the Sahabi says nothing, don't
think it means nothing.
The man
asked him, what have you prepared for it?
And the man said, nothing except that I
love Allah and his messenger.
Rasulullah
said to him, you will be with those
you love.
You will be with those you love.
And Anas ibn Malik of the Al Anwar
adds, he says, we had never been so
glad
as we were on hearing that.
That we will be with those we love.
Therefore,
he says I love the prophet Muhammad Sallallahu
Alaihi Salam. I love Abu Bakr and Omar,
and I hope that I will be with
them
because of my love for them, though my
deeds are not like this.
This is again
the humbleness of Anas ibn Malik,
where he's talking about this in this way.
Again, he's saying, I have no deeds. Again,
think about this. This is all
humbleness
and modesty
of those who Allah
called them the gold standard.
He called them the standard for everyone else.
My brothers and sisters, the life of Rasool
is a sea of knowledge, a vast
repository and a vast resource of knowledge for
anyone who wants to learn. His life has
stood the test of time, which preserves the
histories of people
and interesting stories, but destroys their relevance with
time.
Not so the life of Rasool Sallallahu,
which continues to remain relevant for anyone
who wants to extract lessons from it
and has the sincere desire to implement it.
His life
is living evidence
that his way works
and can transform
our lives today.
That is the key message that his way
works
and that his way can transform our lives
today.
There are many lessons in the life of
Rasool Sallam for us to learn from, but
I want to talk about only 3. First
one is dealings.
First one is dealings,
which is justice for all.
Second one is character,
which defines net worth
and the third one is relationships,
forgiving
everyone.
So let's begin with the first one,
which is dealings,
justice for all. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
commanded
where he said,
Allah
said, oh believers,
stand firm for justice
as witnesses
for Allah,
even if it is against your own selves,
even against, even if it is against yourselves,
your parents or close relatives,
whether they are rich or poor,
Allah
is the best to ensure
their interests.
So do not let your desires
cause you to deviate from justice.
If you distort
the testimony, if you distort the proof,
or refuse to give testimony, refuse to bear
witness,
then know that Allah
is certainly aware
of all that you do.
My brothers and sisters,
we have to get this thing into our
minds
that
there is
nothing
that is hidden from Allah
There's nothing
that is hidden from Allah
And if we
do things correctly, Insha'Allah,
Allah
will be with us, and he will help
us. But if we,
cheat, if we,
do things incorrectly,
then there is a problem.
I recall
when Howard Law
School put
this
ayah, put this ayah,
on their wall
many years ago.
There was huge
jubilation.
Howard Law School put it on their wall,
as the finest statement of justice
in the world ever made.
Muslims sent it to everyone on their list.
I got it from multiple people.
I was in India at that time. I
got it from multiple people from all over
the world.
As I read it, I wondered
if those sending it did so after reflecting
on the way that we treat others.
He's talking about justice, and Allah is saying
be witness
to Allah even against yourselves.
So I was asking myself,
people forwarding it, have they been looking at
themselves first or not?
What about the way
What about those who those brothers
who swallow the inheritance of sisters? They don't
pay this the inheritance to their sisters.
They make all kinds of excuses. What about
children's treatment of elderly parents?
What about how we treat common spaces
where
when you enter a bathroom,
you can say that a Muslim had been
there before you because it looks like New
Orleans
after Katrina.
The whole place is flooded.
What about leaving half full water bottles in
the masjid,
or turning on every light and fan and
then leaving without turning them off?
How about the way we park our cars
and the way we leave our footwear in
the masjid? Even though we have been provided
with the facilities
to,
put those things
in the right place. Do we take the
trouble to do that?
And if you don't take the trouble to
do that, then
what I was saying about ourselves?
So it's easy to, you know, forward, Ayat
and and so on. The the question is
that we have to remember
that a day will come when all of
this will be
a proof
for us or against us.
My brothers and sisters,
there are many instances
in the Sira,
which show
that Rasool, I was salam, did not hold
him and his family apart
in the matter
of justice,
nor did he claim to be above it.
This was not only in contrast
to,
the global principle of the time,
where rulers and nobility
were not subject to the same laws as
the public,
but it contrasts
with the present day,
sometimes stated,
but always practice principle
of treating the rich and powerful differently
from ordinary people.
This non partisan
objective and impartial application of the law
is what sets Islam apart
and is something
that we need to re establish.
Let me narrate a famous incident that illustrates
how the principle of justice was upheld by
Rasool,
and by those who followed it. Narrated Aisha
Sanjay Karadil Ahan,
the people of Quresh worried about a lady
from Bani, Makhzou,
who had committed theft.
They asked, who will intercede for her with
Rasoolullah?
Because this lady had committed theft and she
had been caught, and after due process of
law, the had of the amputation of the
hand was to be applied.
So they said, who will
intercede with Rasulullah?
Some said, no one can dare do that
except Usama Mirzay, the
beloved one of Rasulullah.
When Usama
spoke to Rasulullah
about the matter,
Rasul
got very angry.
He got very upset with him.
And
he said to him
he said, do you try to intercede for
somebody
in a case, in a matter
connected with Allah
prescribed punishments?
Then he got up and delivered a servant.
He made a Khutba,
saying in that Khutba, he said, what destroyed
the nations preceding you was
that if a noble man
or noble woman among them
stole, they would forgive him,
And if a poor person among them stole,
they would inflict Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala legal
punishment on him.
By Allah,
if Fatima,
the daughter of Muhammad, Fatima bin Muhammad Sallallahu
Alaihi Salam stole, if she had steal stolen,
I would cut off her hand.
And this is in Bukhari.
My brother and sister, Islam doesn't
just leave justice
and honesty as a value to be quietly
and silently espoused.
It demands that we stand up for it.
Rasulullah's
2,
is show this.
On the authority
of Abu Sayed al Khudri,
said, I heard Rasulullah
saying,
whoever of you sees an evil,
let him change it with his hands. And
if he is not able to do so,
let him change it with his tongue.
And if he is still not able to
do so, then with his heart meaning, hate
it and stay away from it. And that
is the weakest of faith, and this is
in Sahih Muslim.
In another place, Rasool Salim is reported to
have said, verily, from the greatest of Jihad,
from the greatest of struggle
is to speak a word of truth
in the presence
of a tyrannical
ruler, is to speak the truth before the
tyrant.
I want to conclude with this, that it
is the teachings of the Quran and the
Hadith that gave rise to several great scholars
who revolted against tyrants.
Despite
being tortured, imprisoned and in some cases, being
executed,
they preferred that to
succumbing to
falsehood,
and not speaking up for the truth.
Justice and honesty are possible
even today.
What Islam propagates
is not some impossible Utopian dream, but a
very practical approach to life rooted
in living consciously. We ask Allah's humanitarian to
make us among those who will be counted
among the just, and who will be protected
from being counted among the unjust. We ask
Allah to
make us among the just and to cover
us with his mercy
and to protect us from being punished when
we meet him.
