In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious,
the Most Merciful, all praise is due to
Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace
and blessings be upon the messengers and prophets,
Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings
be upon him, and upon his family and
companions.
Many, many greetings.
Many years ago, I was in Saudi Arabia,
in Tammam, and I went to meet a
very famous scholar there, who I had been
following and learning from for many years.
So, I went to his masjid, I met
him, and it was about 7 or 8
p.m. And he said to me, if
you are free after 7 or 8 p
.m., please come home to meet.
Alhamdulillah, it is a great honor.
The scholar is inviting me to his house.
I went to meet him, and then, guess
what time I left?
After Salatul Fajr.
And as we left, he gave me a
parting advice.
And his advice he gave me was, the
next time you meet an Arab, shake his
hand and run.
So, I came here to do a door
of Darussalam, and then we spent an hour
with the teachers.
Now, I am here with you, and Allah
knows best what is ahead of me.
Alhamdulillah.
I am delighted to see all of you,
MashaAllah.
May Allah bless all of you.
And grant you his khashiyah in your heart,
the hasil of ilm.
Please understand this very clearly.
Because when we are in Madrasa, we get
stuck with the books, kitab, kitab, kitab, kitab,
kitab.
And we forget, not deliberately, but we forget
the purpose of all that.
Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, Alhamdulillah Ali, had a
friend called Bishr al-Hafid.
Now, Imam Ahmad himself was so tremendously rigorous
about knowledge, that one day somebody asked him
to do istambadul ahkam, how many ahadith, and
we are here talking about the dakhreer, the
ilm-ul-rijal, the whole works, right?
How many ahadith should a person know?
Imam Ahmad did not reply.
So the man started to push him.
And guess what number he started with?
Did he say, is it enough to know
10 ahadith?
Enough to know 100?
No.
He said, is it sufficient to know 10
,000 ahadith?
10,000 ahadith memorized with the hujjains of
the narrators.
Imam Ahmad said, no.
He said 20, he said no.
He said 30, he said no.
He said 40, he said no.
The man went all the way to 120
,000 ahadith memorized, and Imam Ahmad says, maybe,
right?
Same deen.
So one day somebody asked Imam Ahmad, he
said, you have this great rigor with regard
to how many ahadith a person should have
memorized, and so on and so on, but
your friend Bishr al-Hafid, you call him
your ustad.
He does not know 120,000 ahadith.
How is he a ustad?
Imam Ahmad said something which I want to
leave with all of you, and I ask
Allah to put it in my heart.
Imam Ahmad said, Bishr has the husul, he
has the hasil of the ilm.
He has the essence of the knowledge.
He has the purpose of knowledge.
They said, what is that?
He said, khashiyatullah.
He said khashiyatullah, right?
So remember this.
Khashiyatullah.
The purpose of your learning here is not
to become an alim, not to become a
fazil, not to get a bachelor's, a master's,
not to make heads of the Quran, not
to be an expert in usul al-ahadith
or whatever.
All of these are zimnan.
All of these are things that will happen
to you in matter of course, as you
go through the curriculum.
Your purpose to be here is to have
the khashiyah of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
in your heart.
Now, question is, how do I know if
I have the khashiyat of Allah or not?
Right?
Shoghi is here, I should have khashiyah.
Alhamdulillah.
So now, do you have it or not?
Do I have it or not?
One of the things that I teach is
six sigma quality.
And six sigma is a quality standard.
For example, if I ask you, I'm doing
a business, I'm manufacturing something that is 99
% perfect.
Is that good or bad?
99% perfect, good, right?
99% is 10,000 mistakes per million.
Six sigma is 3.4 mistakes per million.
That is the difference.
From 10,000 to 3.4. The man
who invented that, he said, if you want,
his name is Michael Harry, he works for
Motorola.
He said, if you want to know what
somebody values, see what they measure.
Metrics.
If you want to see what somebody values,
see what they measure.
Unless you have metrics, you don't know.
We prayed Salat al-Ghuhar.
Right?
If I ask you, what was the quality
of your Salat?
Can you answer this question?
You should be able to answer it.
Why not?
What was the quality of your Salat?
So what did you pray?
You prayed something where you don't even know
what it was.
I mean, good, bad, ugly.
What is the state of it?
We have no metrics.
Unless you have metrics, you will never know.
We know the Hadith.
We have heard this many times.
Salat is of different kind.
There is Salat that somebody prays, which does
not even go above his head.
You heard this, right?
There is Salat where somebody prays, which goes
directly to the Arsh of Allah SWT.
There is Salat where somebody prays, where the
Salat is taken like a dirty clock and
slapped back in his face.
Yes?
Now, I just prayed Salatul Zuhr.
Which one was mine?
Did it go to the heaven or did
it come to my face?
Metrics.
Measurement.
How do I know I have Fashatullah?
You don't have to go anywhere.
The Kitab of Allah is the best guide.
Allah SWT said, Metrics.
Measurement.
Understand the Quran from the perspective of the
Quran.
It's not only the Tajweed.
It's not only the Tajweed.
And the result of these two things?
A heart which is responsive and Iman which
increases.
Yes?
You're all in the Hibbs.
You know the Surah.
You know the Ayah, number and so on.
Now, my point is, what happens to my
heart when Allah is mentioned?
Rivayat.
Alhamdulillah, you go to a madrasa, you get
a lot of stuff that you can use
to lecture on platform for the rest of
your life.
Right?
You will get all sorts of stories.
Remember that every story you stand here and
narrate to people is a witness for you
or against you.
You've all heard this story.
Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Talib, when he heard
the Adhan, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, his face
would become white.
Somebody said, why, what happened?
You look like you're so scared.
What happened?
He said, didn't you hear?
Did you not hear the Adhan?
Allahu Akbar.
We know the Hadith of Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam.
Sayyidina Aisha Siddiqa, radiyallahu anhu, our mother, she
said, he would be with us and he
would be, you know, involved in the family
and talking and so on.
And as soon as he heard the Adhan,
it would be like he did not know
any of us.
He would become an instant, he would become
a stranger.
You heard this, right?
So what happens to you, what happens to
you when you hear the Adhan?
What metrics, Allah has given us the metrics,
measure yourself, am I a Momin?
Allah showed us how to tell myself, how
to answer.
What happens to my Iman when I listen
to Tilawatul Quran?
Do I have Tawakkul on Allah?
Sign of Tawakkul on Allah is my heart
filled with fear of this dunya, aspirations and
desires and, you know, looking for others to
help me or is it Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala?
Metrics, right?
I've got 30 seconds left, they told me
10 minutes, there's 9 minutes and 33 seconds.
So final point, Dua.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala put Shurut, He
put conditions on every form of Ibadah.
For Salah you need a condition, for Sawm
you need a condition, for Zakat you need
a condition, but for Dua there is no
condition.
Yadkurunallaha qiyaman wa fa'udan wa ala junubi
when it refers to Dua.
Standing, sitting, lying down, running, wherever you want
Dua, whether you have Hudu or not, whether
you are liable for Ghusl or not, Dua
is Jais.
So my final question to you is, do
you talk to Allah?
Do you talk to Allah?
Not talking about formal Dua's, Rabbana Azalana, no,
no, no, no.
Do you talk to Allah?
What is my Daleel?
To ask you this question, do you talk
to Allah?
Wa Ithaala Ibraheemu Rabbi Arinee Kaifatuhiil Mawta Did
you reflect on this Ayah?
Reflect on the Ayah.
Here is a little boy, he must have
been a little boy because if you read
the whole Ayah and so on and so
forth, this is not an adult speaking.
Little boy.
He's not making formal Ibadah, he's not reciting
whichever Kalam.
He says, Ya Allah, show me how do
you bring back the dead to life.
Rabbi, my Rabb, he's not saying, Ya Rabbul
Alameen.
No, my Rabb, my Rabb.
He's me and you.
Kaifatuhiil Mawta Right?
So I want to close with this, end
with this.
May Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la
accept.
May Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la
make this a means of Khair and Barakah
for all of us.
I'm leaving you with some thoughts.
What is the measurement for Khashiyatullah in your
heart?
And in terms of Dua, do you talk
to Allah?
Talk to Allah.
Ask Allah.
Tell Allah your story.
He knows it anyway.
But as a slave, my job is to
tell.
As-Salaamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu
