In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious,
the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of
all the worlds.
And peace and blessings be upon the messengers
and prophets.
And peace and blessings be upon the Messenger
of Allah and his family and companions.
My brothers and sisters, last week I was
at Deerfield Academy, which is a very famous
school in Deerfield.
And one of the students of Deerfield Academy
was King Abdullah II, who is now the
King of Jordan.
So I went there and the person who
invited me, he teaches a class of Islamic
studies and the title of the class was
Islam and the Quran.
And that was the first day, so he
told me, please start our class, begin the
class.
I said, Alhamdulillah.
Interestingly, all the students, every single one of
them are non-Muslims.
The teacher himself is a non-Muslim.
And they are learning Islam and the Quran.
So they brought, ceremonially they brought a Quran
which was given to them by King Abdullah
himself.
And then they gave each student one English
translation of the Quran.
So I thought for a minute, how do
I start this class?
So I started the class by reciting Surah
Al-Fatiha and Surah Al-Ikhlas.
Because I asked them first, I said, have
any of you ever heard the Quran?
The thing we forget is that the Quran
Al-Karim is the Kalam of Allah.
It is not the Tahrir, it's not writing.
It is the speech of Allah.
The Quran came as the spoken word.
It did not come as a piece of
paper with writing on it.
It came as a spoken word.
Jibreel A.S., Allah spoke to Jibreel A
.S. in a way that suits His Majesty
and Grace.
And Jibreel A.S. spoke to Rasulullah A
.S. And Rasulullah A.S. spoke to the
Sahaba.
And only then was the Quran written down
and preserved.
But it came originally as a spoken word.
It's very important to remember that because it
is the power of the spoken word which
enters through the ear straight into the heart.
And when it enters a heart that is
ready to receive it, it transforms the individual
and transforms his life.
So the key is, is the heart ready
to receive the Kalam of Allah?
So, I recited Surah Al-Fatiha.
I said, I seek refuge with Allah from
Satan, the accursed.
In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the
Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of
the worlds.
The Gracious, the Merciful.
Master of the Day of Judgment.
It is You we worship and You we
ask for help.
Guide us to the straight path.
The path of those on whom You have
bestowed Your blessings, not of those who have
incurred Your wrath, but of those who have
not incurred Your wrath, and of those who
have not gone astray.
Ameen.
And then I translated.
The reason I'm doing this is not simply
to report to you what happened, so that
we go through the process.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala began by His
name and He said, we begin, we take
the protection of Allah from Satan, the accursed.
And we begin in the name of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, the Most Beneficent, the
Most Merciful.
And we say all praise and thanks be
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, Rabbul Alameen,
the Creator, Sustainer, Maintainer, Protector of the universe.
Again we go to His Sifat, Ar-Rahman
Ar-Raheem, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
And who is He?
He is Malik Yusufuddin.
He is the Owner, He is the King,
whether you pronounce it Malik or Malik, of
the Day of Judgement.
And then we come to the essence of
Islam.
Only you we worship, and only you we
seek help from.
Nobody else.
Only we worship only you and we seek
help only from you.
Only you we worship and only you we
seek help from.
And then we ask the Dua which Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala taught us.
Guide us to the straight path, the path
of steadfastness, the path of righteousness, the path
of all goodness in this world and the
Hereafter.
And then Wazaat of this.
The path of those who you blessed, not
the path of those who incurred your anger
or who were astray.
The path of those whom you blessed, not
of those who incurred your anger or who
were astray.
So I said to them and I said
to you and I said to myself, the
essence of Islam, if somebody says tell me
about Islam in two words, just two words.
What are the two words?
Iyaka Nawudu wa Iyaka Nasta'i.
This is the essence of Islam, this is
the Arah, this is the essence of Islam.
Iyaka Nawudu wa Iyaka Nasta'i.
Then I asked them because King Abdullah studied
in the same school, I said to them
supposing you are in the lift, in the
elevator, and King Abdullah walks in and the
door shuts and you have him to yourself
for 20 seconds, 30 seconds for the lift
to come down, what will you say to
him?
What will you say to him which has
the potential of changing your life?
Because the man has the power, he has
the power, he has the wealth, he can
do anything for you.
What can you, what will you say to
him, how will you say to him?
And of course the unfortunate thing is we
don't teach the way we should teach.
So they said, one guy said I will
tell him my name is so and so,
who cares what your name?
You think the king is concerned about your
name?
Another one said I will say hello, no
you don't say hello to the king.
I said you will say to the king,
your majesty I am from Deerfield Academy.
Because he is from Deerfield Academy, that's his
school.
You say your majesty I am from your
school.
You get an instant connection, your majesty I
am from your school.
What?
You are from my school.
Tell me what you want.
Ta'ala Allah wa lam zaad, Allah is
beyond all examples.
This is what we are doing, we are
saying, we are building a connection, Ya Allah
I am yours.
Ya Allah I worship only you.
Ya Allah I ask help only from you.
Right?
Only from you.
And Allah says, okay what do you want?
Hidara zirata mustaqeem is the acceptance of this
connection.
Allah says yes you are mine, tell me
what you want.
Otherwise dua would not have been there.
If Allah says no you are not mine,
then one dua, to ask whom?
Siyyaka na'awudu yaka mustaqeem.
And then I recited for them surat ul
ikhlas, because this is the introduction of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
They asked him, they asked Nabi sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam, who is Allah?
So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala introduced himself.
So he said, And
they did not encompass anything of His knowledge
except that which came.
The throne of the heavens and the earth
was spread out, and no one could preserve
it, and He is the Most High, the
Most Great.
So he said, So
that they may reflect.
And again, he said, What is Allah?
He is Allah, there is no god but
He, the Knower of the unseen, the Knower
of the unseen and the witnessed, He is
the Most Merciful, the Most Merciful.
He is Allah, there is no god but
He, the King, the Holy, the Peaceful, the
Believer, the Rightly Guided, the Exalted in Might,
the Believer, the Rightly Guided, the Exalted in
Might, the Compeller, the Most Great.
Glory be to Allah!
Glory be to Allah!
As for those who ascribe partners to Him,
He is Allah, the Creator, the Creator, the
Bestower, to Whom belong the Most Beautiful Names.
To Whom glorifies all that is in the
heavens and the earth.
And He is the Exalted in Might, the
Wise.
So He Himself chose for us His favours
and His blessings.
He asked us, Did we not make the
earth a resting place, And the mountains a
resting place, And We created you in pairs,
And We made your sleep firm, And We
made the night a cover, And We made
the day a means of sustenance, And We
built above you seven mountains, And We made
a lamp for you, And We sent down
from the clouds, A rain cloud, That We
may bring forth therewith water and vegetation, And
Our gardens of greenery.
So He told us about the future, The
future, The confirmed future.
There is no doubt about it.
On the Day of Judgment there will be
a meeting, On the Day when the trumpet
will be blown, And you will come forth
in groups, And the heavens will be opened,
And it will be like a gate, And
the mountains will be moved, And it will
be like a mirage, * will be like
a prison, For the transgressors, They will stay
therein for a while, They will not taste
therein any coolness or drink, Except scalding water
and filth.
For whom?
They were not expecting any reckoning, And they
denied Our signs with falsehood, And we disobeyed
everything in writing.
So taste it, and We will not increase
you except in torment.
And by Allah's will, We have made with
the righteous, Indeed, for the righteous is a
triumph, Gardens and grapevines, And graves of dust,
And cups of boiling water, They will not
taste therein any idle talk or falsehood, As
a reward from your Lord, a giving, a
reckoning.
And he stood up again, A second time,
The Lord of the heavens and the earth,
And all that is between them, the Most
Merciful, They have no power to address Him,
On the Day when the angels will be
in line, They will not speak except those
to whom the Most Merciful has given permission,
And He will say, That Day is the
truth.
So whoever wills, he will take to his
Lord a place of return.
Indeed, We have warned you of a near
punishment, On the Day when man will see
what his hands have sent forth, And the
disbeliever will say, Oh, I wish I was
dust.
As I said before, Islam is the name
of a connection, Of a relationship.
Islam is the name of a relationship.
A relationship between the servant and the Lord.
A relationship between what?
Between our Lord and Allah.
Because of this, the poet says, Do you
have a secret from Allah?
Between you and Allah?
Do you have hidden secrets?
Only Allah knows.
Do you have a secret from Allah?
Between you and Allah?
Do you have hidden secrets?
Only Allah knows.
This is a necessity.
Certainly, it
is very critical and important to have A
secret between us and Allah.
Something that only Allah knows.
The poet says, is there a secret between
you and Allah which only Allah knows?
Is there a good thing you have done
which only Allah knows?
Nobody else.
I remind myself and you, I am not
translating any of the ayat which I recited
because all of these are familiar to you.
You know the surah, you know the ayat.
Just look up the translation if you like.
Very important for us, focus on the connection
with Allah.
Nothing else matters.
And when we have the connection with Allah,
automatically we obey Allah.
Because the connection with Allah, The
connection between Allah, the relationship between Allah and
the slave, Is the relationship of worship.
Of submitting to Allah.
Submitting to Allah.
سَمَعَنَا وَعَطَعَنَا Nothing else in between.
سَمَعَنَا وَعَطَعَنَا Allah says, do we do, خَلَص.
Ask Allah to fill our hearts with His
hum.
With His kibriya, His glory, His majesty.
شَيْخَ لِسَائِرِ الْعَلَابِ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبِ This
is true, true, true, true, true.
So the heart is not filled with drugs
and medicine and anything else.
The heart is only filled with the remembrance
of Allah.
The peace of mind is not in drugs
and medicines and antidepressants and no.
It is in the dhikr of Allah.
The dhikr of Allah elevates you.
It expands your heart.
It makes you alive.
It gives you strength and power.
Because we are connected to Rabbul Alameen.
Ask Allah to collect us to Him.
And to fill our lives with His glorious
majesty.
And to make us shine with His power
and His glory.
And make us guides for ourselves and for
everyone who comes into contact with us.
We ask Allah to accept our duas.
We ask Allah to protect the Ummah of
Muhammad ﷺ.
