Mikaeel Smith – In His Footsteps #18
AI: Summary ©
The importance of being patient and not giving up on one's own success is emphasized in the conversation. The actions of the prophet sallali alaihi wa sallam and the importance of knowing the physical and mental state of the person and the potential for blessings from them are discussed. The importance of showing strong leadership and not giving advice to others is emphasized. The conversation also touches on the importance of understanding the physical and mental state of the person and the importance of showing strong leadership and not giving up on one's own success.
AI: Summary ©
I mean by that, they only saw Issa
in the time of Hijra, in the time
of Mecca, when it was about patience, when
it was about,
be be patient, don't turn the other cheek,
don't do anything.
Our 13 first years before the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam went to Medina, all he
did was teach the Sahaba patience in the
time of difficulty.
There was no response. It was just to
be patient, be patient, be patient, be patient.
Finally, when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
went to Madinah, it was at that time
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam permission
to respond, to stand up for ourselves. And
the reason this is important. Because the Haqq
needs power too. The Haqq needs strength too.
Without strength, the hak can't stand up. Right?
And so when you look at the life
of Issa, what's amazing, and I'm gonna get
into this moment because it's it's so profound.
But when we look into the life of
Issa,
what we find is that
he there was they they went after Issa
and we know that Allah
lifted up Issa alayhi salatu alayhi salatu alayhi
salatu alayhi salam,
and he will return.
But when he returns, he doesn't come back
quote unquote the same, Issa.
He comes back fighting the dajal, leading the
armies of Mahdi. He comes back
like looking like the prophet in Madinah.
He comes back ready to fight for what
is true.
And so,
it's important for us not to shy away
from this part of our history. This is
a beautiful part of the the balance of
what our prophet
was. He was soft and gentle when necessary.
But being soft and gentle in a time
that needs strength isn't beautiful.
Being soft and gentle in a time that
needs harshness
is not beautiful.
What's beautiful is to to the ability to
have the right quality in the right time,
and that's what our Rasul, alayhi salatu wassalam
mastered.
That's what Ar Rasool alayhi salatu wassalam he
gave us is that that temperament of having
the right quality for the right moment. And
so the backdrop of the battle of Badr
is that the immigrants
who migrated from Mecca to Medina, they left
everything behind,
and the people of Mecca
had taken all of their wealth and the
people of Mecca, they were fed up. They
were like, these Muslims are gaining strength, They
have their own place now. They're comfortable.
It's time to attack them. It's time to
gather all our wealth and do whatever we
can to stop them from gaining strength.
So, the Rasul
as y'all know, I'm gonna go briefly through
the moments of it so we can actually
get to the lessons of it. The prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam, Abu Sufyan
is
the leader of this caravan that's going with
all the wealth wealth of Mecca
to Syria. He's going to do trade business,
come back with that money, and launch an
attack against the Muslims. The Rasul, sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam, he tells the Sahaba, there's a
caravan coming back.
We have to go after this caravan
because these
Quraish, they don't care about morality.
You can't tell them, oh, you were oppressing
people for years. That's wrong. They don't care.
You can't tell them that, oh, you're you're
putting people through so much difficulty. That's wrong.
They don't care. What they care about is
money.
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam understood that. So
what did he do? He was like, we
have to stop this trade caravan. Madinah, geographically,
is north of Mecca.
So in order to get to Syria where
they would trade, they'd have to go past
Medina.
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam is like, you're not
just gonna stroll past my my hood like
that,
trying to make money against me to wage
war against me. We don't roll like that.
That's not happening. So Rasulullah Sallalahu Alaihi wa
sallam, he says to the Sahaba,
whoever wants to come,
I'm gonna go after this caravan. And notice
our Rasul, salallahu alaihi wa sallam, he doesn't
say y'all go after it. He goes, I'm
going. Whoever wants to come, come with me.
This is his quality. He's always the first
there. He's always the one right there that
I'm not telling you what to do. I'm
showing you what to do. That's leadership.
Rasulullah sallahu alaihi wa sallam, he says, whoever
wants to come can come. So
a group get together, whoever is ready at
that time. It was at a time when
you didn't have to go. It was voluntary
to go.
So a group of 313
companions
say, alright. We'll roll with you. We'll go.
This is a good opportunity.
Waifiy said, I could go. I'm a dip.
Right?
So they head out,
and,
as Abu Sufyan is coming,
he gets word that the prophet
has sent out has gone out with a
group looking for them. Abu Sufyan is a
very intelligent man, extremely intelligent.
He looks at a few things, he talks
to a few people, and he realizes where
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam would be,
and he goes the other way.
In the meantime, he had already sent word
to Mecca.
He had already sent word to Mecca. The
narration is is very very clear. He had
already sent word to Mecca. He sent someone
to Mecca saying,
he said,
He sent a word. All the Quraysh, come
and protect me.
Come and protect your wealth. If you care
about your money, come and protect your wealth.
He told them that Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam is coming towards him.
So this messenger runs to Mecca, goes quickly,
and when Abu Jahl hears that these Muslims
have the audacity to now, they have this
much strength now that they're going to threaten
our economic well-being. They have this much strength.
These were the ones that we were oppressing.
These were our slaves. These were no one
before. We're not gonna let them do this.
So Abu Sufyan gathers everyone,
gathers as many as he can, over a
1000
men ready to go.
And he doesn't just go ready for war.
This man is filled with hubris.
This man is filled with hubris because
this ragtag group of Muslims has no power
whatsoever.
He's filled with arrogance,
and he goes, not only are we going
to go,
but we're going to take
as much,
you know, animals as we can, as much
alcohol as we can.
We're going to take people that will sing
songs after we win. We are going to
have
a block party in Budder.
You got a block party in Dallas? Okay.
That's the East Coast thing, I guess. Whatever.
We're gonna have a block party. We're gonna
have a good time after this is over.
That's what this is about.
They're getting ready to go and they're just
at, they're about to leave this whole army
filled with with arrogance. And the Quran speaks.
It says,
They went out full of hubris, full of
arrogance.
We're gonna take care of this. We're just
gonna handle this, and then we're gonna throw
a party over there.
By the time they're getting ready to leave,
and this is crucial,
Abu Sufyan sends word back to Mecca, don't
worry. I got out of harm's way and
and the caravan is safe.
The caravan is safe.
Now, you would think that right there, they
would have stopped and said, hey, our whole
mak said, our whole purpose of going is
over, so now let's go back. But that's
not what happened.
Abu Jahal says,
no. We need to prove to people who
we are. We need to show people the
strength that we have.
So he goes, no. We're gonna go out
anyway.
There were a lot of people protesting,
but he used his influence. He used his
pressure,
and they kept going. They kept going towards,
Badr.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala when it comes to
the battle of Badr, which you have to
understand,
every battle that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam fought has a different secret, it has
a different meaning to it, a different reality
and a lesson that can be learned. If
we look at the Quran, Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala speaks about the battle of Badrin. What
does he say?
Indeed,
listen closely to the words of Allah.
Indeed, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has given you victory.
Nusrah.
Nusrah means victory. Be Badr.
In the place of Badr.
Where you while you were at your weakest,
humblest
state.
The secret of Badr
is this,
The difference between Badr and every other battle
is we had no preparation
whatsoever
for what was in front of us.
We had no preparation. This group of 313
goes out with the intention of a caravan.
Finally, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam,
he
realizes
that the caravan has kind of gone the
other way and that the Quraysh are sending
a massive army of over a 1000 people
to confront him.
And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, he gathers
the companions.
He gathers the companions, and I wanna read
this narration to you. It's a beautiful narration.
He gathers the companions
and he tells them the situation,
and when he tells them the situation, he
asks them, what should we do? So let
me read this narration.
Rasul alaihi wasalam was in the pathway headed
towards Badr.
At that time, Rasulullah alaihi wasalam found out
that Quraysh were coming with this massive army.
We barely have any animals.
There are 313
of us, and there are only 70 camels
that we ride on. That means every 3
people were taking turns on a camel.
You get one turn to ride and then
you're walking. Then you get one turn to
ride and then you're walking.
Abu Lu Baba and Ali radhiallahu an, they
were taking turns. It was Rasulullah, Abu Lu
Baba, and Ali radhiallahu an.
Now,
if you had to take turns with the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, and it was
his turn to walk, what would you do?
You'd be like, You Rasulullah, let me walk
for you.
And so that's what they do. They say,
You Rasulullah,
we'll walk for you.
And the narration is beautiful. This is who
he was. The
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, he said,
You are not stronger than me nor do
you need the reward more than me. I
want to walk too.
I want to walk too.
This is leadership, this is who he
was.
So Rasulullah he
gathers the companions.
And he told them about the Quraysh on
their way.
Some of them were like, we need to
go back.
But he sat and listened to everyone.
So now he's asking them, what should we
do?
Now, before I go forward, I want to
highlight something that's really important here. This is
the prophet of Allah salallahu alaihi wasallam. This
is a man who gets revelation from God.
But in this moment, what is he doing?
He's doing something called Mashwara.
He's consulting. He's getting advice from the entire
group.
This is a concept
that we find embedded in the life of
Rasool salallahu alayhi wasallam. Some sahabas say we
never saw anyone that did more mashwara. What
is mashwara? It's when I go up to
hate them, and I'm like, you'll hate them.
I got a situation. What do you think
I should do? I go up to Mutti
Kamani. I'm like, Mutti Kamani, I'm I'm thinking
about doing this. What do you think? What
would you do? I go up to this
person. I ask him. They say we never
saw a person that did more
than the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
despite the fact that he has access to
revelation.
The scholars say the reason is to teach
us the importance of that in our lives
as well.
I read a narration of
where he said there's 3 types of people.
Three types.
Write this down. This is heavy.
He says number 1 is a person
whose whose intellect is sound, and when a
situation is confronts them, they could figure it
out and, like, hack it. They they can
get through it.
And he said the second person is a
person that whenever they have a situation confront
them, they don't depend on themselves, but rather
they consult people of intelligence,
and they get guidance through that.
And then, Umar
said, the third type of person is the
person
that doesn't have their own intellect to figure
out, but doesn't have the capacity
to ask people for guidance.
This is Umar ibn Khattab speaking about the
importance of.
Ali radhiallahu an about this concept of asking
advice, seeking advice.
He said
He says, what a great help
seeking consulting
is
and what a horrible preparation
to try to do everything on your own.
Rasulullah SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam is sitting here, crucial
moment.
In our Islamic history,
what do we do? He doesn't say I'm
gonna lead. Everyone follow me. He goes, what
do y'all wanna do? So Abu Bakr stands
up first.
Abu Bakr he stands up and he speaks
beautifully.
That we're with you. We're we have you.
We got your back. You Rasoolullah.
Then Umar stands up. Faqala You Rasulullah. Umar
radiAllahu anhu. As we'll see tonight,
He's had enough of Quraysh, You Rasulullah.
He's had enough. Like, we've had enough of
so many different types of people.
He had enough of Quraysh at this point.
He says, You Rasulullah,
This is just Quraysh in all their honor.
They've never been humbled.
Quraysh haven't been humbled yet. They need to
be humbled.
And they don't believe yet.
They don't believe you. You Rasulullah.
They're going to fight you You Rasulullah.
So let's fight them first. Let's prepare. Let's
go against them.
The prophet
hears Abu Bakr, hears Umar,
and then he says
this.
Give me advice everyone.
Now now, hold up. Imagine you're there.
Abu Bakr spoke.
The prophet, said, listened.
Umar spoke.
The prophet
listened.
And then he stops and goes, Someone else
tell me what we should do.
I was like, What?
Who else gonna speak? Miqdad
bin Amer.
He goes, okay. Maybe I'll speak. You Rasulullah.
He gives this beautiful speech.
He says, Go forward wherever God told you
to go.
We're with you.
We won't say what Banu Israel said to
Moses.
It's referring to a verse of the Quran
when Banu Israel said to Moses,
You and your Lord go fight.
We're not going. He goes, We're not going
to say that, but rather, we're going to
tell you we're with you.
We're with you. We'll fight with you.
And he says, I swear by Allah, who
sent you with truth,
if you took took us to the furthest
extent of the sea, we will fight with
you.
Everyone's, like, got chills. Oh, my God. Like,
that's like, you know, a locker room speech
that you're like, let's go.
Rasool Saezem says, give me some advice, y'all.
Everyone's like, what's going on?
33, like, leaders of the community just spoke
up, but he's not he's not grabbing it
yet.
The
Ansar realized something.
The Ansar realize that the 3 people who
spoke were all immigrants from Mecca.
And so the Ansar go,
oh, he wants our advice.
So here's the backdrop, y'all.
When the Ansar welcomed the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam to Medina,
they had promised to defend him.
They had promised to protect him.
They had never explicitly said that we'll go
out with you.
They're like, if someone attacks, we got you.
They had never explicitly said that, like, we're
gonna go out with you. We're gonna, you
know, offensively go out with you. They never
said that. So the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam see, this is the brilliance,
the emotional intelligence. He's not saying, can the
Ansar speak up? Because that puts too much
pressure.
He's just like, no, I need some more.
Anyone else?
And
finally, finally,
one of the Ansar, he speaks up, Sa'ad
bin Mu'ad.
He says, Wallahi lakaanaka tuiduna You Rasulullah.
He says, You Rasoolullah, I think you're talking
to us, right?
And Rasulullah, he goes, Yeah, yeah, I'm talking
to you. To you guys.
And Saad speaks so beautifully. He says,
We believe in you, You Rasoolullah.
We confirm what you're saying is true.
And we are witnesses that everything that you
speak is the Haqq from God.
And we've given you a pledge that we
will listen and obey to you.
From the You Rasulullah,
Go forward wherever you want.
We're with you.
We're with you. I want you to reflect
back in the moment of Ta'if that we
did like 4 weeks ago.
When there was no one around him. When
the whole city was kicking him out. And
now you have these men of strength and
honor
speaking for him.
Do you you know what the narration says?
Rasul got happy.
He got happy.
He got happy when he heard that.
He said to him,
if you were to take us to the
ocean and tell us to dive in, we
would dive in with you, You Rasulullah.
He goes, we're not worried about
meeting the enemy.
If it brings coolness to your eyes,
we are with you.
And then he says,
He goes,
let's go. By the blessing of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala.
The narration says, Fasura, Rasul Sayyidun's face just
lit up.
He lit up, and he looked at everyone,
and he was invigorated,
he
was motivated,
and he said,
Let's go, Bismillah.
Let's go. It's
time
to
go.
Because Allah will give us one of 2
things.
He will either give us victory or give
us the caravan, one of the others.
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam continues to travel forward
until they arrive
at Badr.
But before I go forward, I need you
to understand,
we only have 70 camels. There's 313
of us. Some of us didn't even have
weapons. We had sticks.
From a material perspective, from the material
worldly perspective, we had nothing.
Allah says it in the best
you were at your lowest point.
But this this moment teaches us something.
It teaches us that we have to become
people
that unlock the help of Allah by by
looking beyond what's materially in front of us.
We never fought, we never gained strength by
numbers. It was always something a lot deeper.
Let's keep going.
By the way, did I mention they were
fasting because it was Ramadan? Ramadan had just
been ordained.
They were fasting.
No weapons.
And now you want us to go against
the superpower
of the world
with weapons of whatever you wanna call them.
They're the strongest army in the whole Arabian
Peninsula,
and here we are rocking adidas jumps. I
mean, here we are
with flip flops on,
and you want us to go forward?
But these people had something deep inside.
Listen.
You know, they say there's a Meccan period,
right, and there's a Medina period.
Sometimes,
even though time goes forward, we revert back
to the Meccan period, and sometimes we're in
the Medina period.
I'm talking about in our context today.
The secret here in Badr
is that the help
comes at that lowest point.
You know what else is deep about Badr?
You're not ready for this. Every other battle
had Munafiqin
in the ranks.
This was the battle where there were no
Munafiqeen.
It was all sincere believers.
313, by the way, exact same number of
the, of the, army of Sod.
Exact same number.
313 sincere. So they go forward.
Abu Sufyan has got away. Abu Sufyan already
sent word. Ya'll can go back. Abu Jahl
goes, Why would we go back? We need
to show everyone how strong we are. We
need to flaunt our strength. We need to
just at least take all this strength out
so people see it. Pure hubris.
And on the other side, humility.
Only one purpose,
pleasure of Allah. That's it. Only one purpose,
pleasure of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
So they reach Badr,
and Rasulullah Sallallahu Wa Salam says, alright. We're
going to set up over here.
The whole army, 313, they're, like, okay.
Before they set up, something interesting happens.
A man by the name
of Habab bin Mundir,
in front of everyone,
he he politely comes up to the Rasul
with the most Adeb, and he says, you
Rasulullah.
Now, I want you to imagine this. The
prophet shalallahu alaihi wa sallam has just told,
okay, everyone. We're here. The enemy hasn't arrived
yet. We're the first here at this battlefield.
We can choose where we go at this
point. Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam is like,
alright, everyone we're gonna set up over here.
He says,
excuse me, You Rasulullah,
with the most adam.
You Rasulullah.
You
see this place that you're asking us to
stay in.
He goes, you know where you're telling us?
He goes,
I have a question.
Is this place
a place that we have to be at?
Allah has told you we need to be
here. We can't move a step forward or
a step back. Is this from Allah or
is this your opinion and just strategy?
Rasulullah
he says, no, this is strategy. This is
what I was thinking would be the best
move.
No. No. This ain't the spot, You Rasulullah.
This isn't the spot we should set up
at.
No, no, no. Go down further into the
valley.
And we'll be right by the water.
Then we can get the water, and while
the battle happens, we'll have water to drink
from.
Rasulullah
said he said,
He goes, no. This is a good opinion.
Let's do it. You know what's amazing?
There's a number of lessons here.
Number 1, can you imagine being the leader,
that position,
and being able to take the the
suggestion of somebody?
How many times you go up to your
boss with a great idea, but it's too
many people watching? They're just like, yeah, next
next quarter we'll do that.
No, no. I thought about that already. You
ain't thinking about that already.
You just can't.
Your pride is too you can't take that
advice in front of all these people.
So what does he say? He goes, no.
This was my opinion here.
What else is profound
is
Habab, his aqal, his mind is telling him
something, but look how he says it. He
goes,
is this from God? Because if it's from
God, I don't care what I think.
But if it's not from Allah, let me
give my opinion.
So he's using his intellect, but he's never
placing the intellect above revelation.
It's brilliant because some of us, we we
come I got this great idea, you know,
I mean, we should do this, the deen
should be like this, the deen should be
like this.
Habab teaches us something profound.
He's ready to completely
drop his opinion,
completely drop
his intellect. Why? Because of revelation.
So with edeb, what does he do? He
goes,
I just gotta ask a question.
And he asked the question.
You know what else the scholars say?
This shows you how approachable the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam was.
Some of us
have parents, we can't even go up to
them and and give them a suggestion.
Just a suggestion.
You know, Baba, I think we should
and then now Baba says this, Baba says
that, oh, you're grown
now.
You American now. You Western Souls now.
Bro, you ain't the prophet,
You don't get revelation, bruh.
You can take advice.
Now, let me balance the message.
Obviously, look at the adab he came with,
though.
He didn't just come up, like, yo, is
this the wrong spot?
He goes, excuse me, can I can I
please
is this first, he he confirmed, like, is
this from Allah? Or is this just what
you think would be better? He goes, no,
I just. And then he goes, okay. I
have a suggestion.
Share, please.
So two times in this whole battle, this
critical moment,
the prophet is willing to accept
from people advice. How many of us just
become so blinded?
No one can talk to us.
No one can talk to us.
This is the Rasul sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
So
they arrive.
The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam arranges everyone.
And when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
arranges everyone,
he comes to the to the battlefield,
and he does something that's purely prophetic.
He's in a he's in a state of,
like, clarity,
and he starts to point to places
on the battlefield,
and he goes, this is the spot that
Fulan such and such will die at. This
is the spot that such and such will
die at. This is the spot that such
and such will die
at. And the Sahaba say, wallahi, the next
day when we came, they didn't miss the
mark.
They were exactly where the prophet
had pointed to the day before.
The battle of Badr is a is a
battle of of miracles.
The Sahaba,
they start to line up. They start to
get in their places. Rasul it was the
night of Jum'ah, means for us, it would
have been Thursday night. For them, the Laylatul
Jum'ah, the night before.
Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam arranges everyone,
and he points to each spot.
And then they all go back to their
camps.
They all go back to their camps,
and the Sahaba, they say that something
amazing happened.
Allah
caused us to become sleepy.
Now, you may say, well, how is that
a big deal? Well,
you've had a job interview the next day.
You had a big thing coming up the
next day. How hard was it to sleep?
You had critical situations coming. What was the
difficulty with sleep?
This is amazing.
Some of the Sahaba say,
and the Quran says, that Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala caused them to get sleepy. They said,
we slept through the night like babies.
But Rasool salallahu alaihi wa sallam, he went
over
to his arish. They had built a small
hut for him.
It was behind the battle, and I don't
want you to think that he stayed behind,
but they wanted to protect him still. So
they built this
this kind of place for him to
be, like, secure.
Obviously, they built it with whatever materials they
had around.
And they built it, and the Rasul
goes back, and the narrations are profound.
They say, Rasul, he spent the entire night
Rasulullah SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam spent the entire night
while everyone was sleeping
just making du'a to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
He's weeping, he's weeping, he's weeping. And he's
in his sajda and he's saying,
until the morning time comes.
Morning time Hold on. I'm going to come
back to this part. I promise you.
But I want you to understand that
our dua is part of the jihad.
Our dua is our prayers, are part of
you know how people say, like, oh, when
you're trying to do something, tie your camel.
Right? We all know the example. Tie your
camel. Trust and tie your camel. What we
don't realize is that the spiritual part is
part of tying the camel as well.
We think that tie your camel means all
of the material as asbab, all the material
means we take care of.
That's not it only.
Du'a is part of the Sabah.
Du'a is part of the cause.
He spends this night connecting to Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala.
Badr is the battle where we had no
means to victory.
We were small.
We were surrounded by a superpower.
We didn't have the material means of survival,
let alone victory.
So he spends that night, tazarua. What does
tazarua mean?
Just opening your heart to Allah.
Letting it out.
Letting it all out. Just
weeping to Allah They wake up in the
morning and pray Fajr.
It's the day of
It's the day of Badr Yom Al Furqan,
as Allah calls it. The day where Haqq
and Baatil are about to be separated for
the first time.
Up until now I don't think y'all get
it. Up until now,
we have been told to be patient.
The torture,
all of the hardship, be patient. Be patient.
Be patient.
They wake up in the morning.
Rasulullah SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam Thumma Safar Rasulullah. He
put everyone in the ranks.
This is Rasulullah SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam now. This
is a different man that we've ever seen.
He's the general,
and he's putting them in their ranks. Alright,
you stand here. And he's holding a stick.
He's holding a stick. And he's using the
stick to straighten the rose out.
Straighten up.
You know, like, when I first converted,
the rose in prayer was, like,
that was deep, yo.
The rose, man? No, you ain't feel it.
Forget it. Whatever.
You know, some of the convert brothers, they
call them the ranks.
Like, you're standing in the ranks.
The way the angels line up.
Rasulullah
is straightening the rows. It's about to go
down, y'all. It's about to get real.
Rasulullah
has a stick in his hand, and
straightening out the rose,
he pushes 1 person by the name of
Sawad.
And when he pushes them, he's just using
the stick to straighten the rope. When he
touches Sawad, Sawad goes,
like like he hurt him.
That hurts so much.
Everybody's like, what's up with this drama?
All this drama?
He's like, it hurts.
Rasulullah
is looking at him
and he says, You Rasulullah,
you hurt me.
I mean, yo, I already told you there's
no Munafiqeen in this army. These are sincere
believers.
These are men ready to put everything on
the line for la ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulallah.
And not to mention, Umar's there.
Not to mention, Umar is there.
So, everyone He says, I want Oh, Kidani,
give me a kissos. Give
me
and everyone just you can imagine everyone looking
down the road like,
what's he doing?
Rosalie slices him hands him the stick.
Alright, hit me back.
He goes, no, no, no. You hit me
on bare skin.
Your shirt is on.
Everybody's like, Oh, what's going on?
So, the suicide is suddenly done. He lifts
up his shirt to his stomach is showing,
and everyone is looking. What is he about
to do?
Sawad falls to his knees, and he kisses
the stomach of the prophet, and he hugs
him.
He hugs him, and he just holds him.
This man is about to go into battle.
And he hugs him and he holds him.
And he's kissing him.
He's kissing the the prophet of Allah salallahu
alayhi
wasallam,
who he has given everything for.
And then the
prophet
he kisses his stomach.
He stands him up and he says,
So why?
Why'd you do this?
And look at this response.
I told you, love is a cure for
the lover and the loved.
This man has nothing but love for Rasulullah,
And he sees that possibly I'm gonna leave
this world.
And I don't know the next time I'm
gonna see Muhammad Rasulullah.
I don't know.
So what does he say? He says,
You see where we're at right now.
A 1000 men over there.
313 right here. We got sticks,
sandals.
You see where we're at right now. The
situation is here now.
He said, I wanted my last relationship with
me and you was that my skin touched
your skin. That's
it. He doesn't die and bother.
He lives. He fights an Uhud as well.
He lifts his hands and he makes du'a
for khair.
He makes du'a for khair for him.
Just just reflect on that that that that
level of love.
Just think about that level of love that
they had for the Prophet and ask Allah,
oh Allah, give me love of Rasool.
Give me love of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam.
They're standing in the rows.
I told you this is a battle of
miracles. Miracle after miracle happens.
And the reason the miracles happened, they say
this is the only battle where so many
miracles happened in such a a a short
span of time.
One of the miracles that happened, Allah speaks
about it in Surat Al Anfa.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
ibn Mas'ud I told you there was a
1,000 of them. Ibn Mas'ud said that,
I was standing in the saf and we're
about to fight,
And I look over to the guy next
to me,
and I lean over and I say,
it looks like there are about 70 of
them over there.
It looks like there's how many?
70. How many are there? There's a 1,000
of them. Ibn Mas'ud says, I looked to
the guy to my left, and I'm like,
there's about 70 over there. The guy next
to me, he goes, no. No. You tripping.
There's about a 100 of them.
There's about a 100. Both of them are
wrong. Allah speaks about this in the Quran
and this is profound.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says one of the
miracles and gifts and blessings that he gave
because of their sincerity,
When Allah
showed you
Allah made them seem small to you
and made you seem small to them. Now,
what does this mean?
And what does it mean for your life?
What it means
is that when the Sahaba were looking
at this
enemy in front of them, when they were
looking at this
difficulty in front of them,
Allah allowed them their iman and Allah and
Allah's blessing in that moment was that the
seemed small.
The
Now, hold up though. You're not like, how
does this apply to me?
See, the less qadr of Allah you have,
the less
that you
you you you understand who Allah is, the
bigger
and more heavy the world seems.
But the more you know Allah, the smaller
the difficulties
seem. This is the blessing of Allah subhanahu.
It could be
a a a a mashakil in the in
the usla, the family,
My father, my mother, my sister. It could
be economic.
It could be the job. It could be
whatever.
But the blessing here's the key. The blessing
in this moment was it's a 1,000 of
them. The reality is a 1,000. But the
perception of the believer in that moment, Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala allowed the believer in that
moment. He looks up. It was like, yo,
it's like 70 over there.
It's like 70.
I was talking to a brother.
His iman was beautiful,
and he didn't have a job.
And me and him were talking,
And his iman was so strong
that the mashaqil
seemed small to him.
He was tying his camel. I know what
y'all think. It's here, everybody. Everybody, like, well,
did he, like, fill out the application? Right?
Like,
he tied his camel. Yeah. He tied his
camel.
But the in
his heart, in his mind,
he was so focused on Allah that he's
like,
I'm good.
And the crazy part
is
the other people around
are making the mashaqil bigger,
and this is why you need friends of
Allah around you.
The friends of Allah are the ones that
are gonna change that focus
so that you're focusing on Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala and not the
You understand what I'm saying by Meshakken, the
difficulty.
But what Shaytan tries to make you do
is make the the the issue bigger.
Oh my god. What am I gonna do?
What am I gonna do? What am I
gonna do?
The beauty of this battle is right here.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says,
Now, what's even crazier is Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala says about
the Quraysh.
And when they were looking at you, they
saw you as few too.
Allah didn't make us look large number because
he wanted them to all be arrogant.
He wanted them to keep that arrogance. Look
how small they are.
Look how materialistically
stronger we are. Look at the weapons we
have. Look what they don't have.
Allah wants them to keep that quality because
they don't have that Ikhlas in Allah. But
for the believer who has that Ikhlas, Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala and this is a sign
that you're blessed in a difficulty.
It becomes smaller to you.
May Allah give us that. May Allah give
us that.
May Allah give us that. That's why ibn
al Ta'ala Askandiri, he says the more you
focus on Allah's mercy, sins look smaller and
smaller.
SubhanAllah.
So, Allah, subhanAllah, this is nothing but miracles.
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he lines up the
Sahaba,
and,
they were lined up.
And again,
it was amazing because as they were lined
up,
ibn Mas'ud says, I started to feel drowsy
again.
I mean, it's it's in the thick of
the battle.
I mean, if any of you played team
sports, it's like before you run out the
tunnel. Can you imagine, like, falling asleep before
you run out the tunnel?
Yeah. I don't even know what I'm talking
about. Forget it. Whatever.
Yeah. I mean, like, you're hyped.
But they were they had so much
They had so much tranquility.
And this was a divine blessing that in
your most difficult moment some of us, I've
heard someone ask me a question before. They're
like, I'm going through a hardship, but I
am I feel weird. I'm like, why do
you feel weird? They're like, because I'm not
worried. I'm like, that's that's the believer.
That's your iman working right there.
That's your iman.
So, ibn Masood, he was like, I'm standing
in battle and we're about to it's about
to pop off. I drop my sword.
It like falls out of my hand. He
picks it up quick like, woah, what's going
on?
What happens? Rasulullah sallallahu ahi wa sallam, he
goes back to his tent.
And this is a powerful moment. Yeah. Rasulullah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, he goes back to
this tent that they made for him.
They're all in lines. The battle is about
to begin in moments.
He goes back to his tent. Everyone's lined
up,
and he starts to make du'a.
Remember what I said, like, du'a is part
of the means.
He goes back to his tent,
and he's on his knees, and he's lifting
up his hands,
And he's saying,
He's lifting up his hands.
And the narration says, not just lifting up
his hands,
his hands are lifted up
towards the qiblah.
Like, give me.
He's not down here.
He's up
here like I have nothing but You You
Allah. He says, Allahummaanjizzlimawatani.
He goes, Allah give me what you told
me you're gonna give me.
I want you to notice how
sure and how intimate him and Allah are
in this moment.
He says, You Allah, give it to me.
Give me what You promised me.
He goes, You Allah,
if you want,
you won't be worshiped after today.
Oh
Allah
Oh Allah, if this small group of believers
is destroyed
Man, these words hit so different. Right?
Oh Allah, if this small group of believers,
313
of us,
if we are worshiped Look what he says
to Allah. Oh Allah, you won't be worshiped.
You won't be worshiped. Sheikh
Abu Hasan Ali Naidawi, he says these words
are so strong
that if they didn't come in Sahib Bukhari,
people would say it's fabricated
because of how strong he's speaking.
You know what else it speaks of?
Our role in this dunya.
You know there's a hadith in Sahih Muslim
that says
the day of judgment won't happen
until there's no one on the earth that
says Allah, Allah.
Like lowkey,
everybody on your street needs to be like,
Yo Muhammad, you're the man yo.
You keeping this dunya rotating. One of my
teachers used to say, it's as if the
rotation of this universe
is dependent on the dhikr of the believer.
I created
for worship. The moment we're all gone,
the is over.
So in this moment, this this moment, the
prophet, he's
in his tent. The armies are in front.
Rasul is on his knees. He's lifting up
his hands like this. He's not doing one
of these duas.
Y'all maybe heard me say it before.
Some of y'all we be making duas from
some of the most serious stuff, but we're
doing it like so politely.
Like we're just like, yeah, Allah, if you
want to.
I mean, it would be nice, you know,
a gig would be nice right now.
Bro,
where's the urgency?
Where's the opening of the heart before Allah?
Where's that moment? This moment that Rasool salallahu
alayhi wasalam, his hands are up. Now you
don't gotta do it in the masjid. Alright?
You know, that might
everybody gonna come after and be like, you
alright bro? What you need?
Do it at home. Whatever.
Rasul
has lifted his hands in the air like
this.
Like like try this one time with one
of your serious, most hard difficulties.
Raise your hands and just beg Allah. You
know what I was thinking about earlier today?
I was reflecting on this.
Are my kids in here?
You know the way toddlers ask for stuff
and don't stop?
Bruh.
The way they ask.
Like, you gotta. You have to. Please. Please.
You're like, bruh, it's just candy. Chill.
But for them, it's like, you know what's
amazing?
It's amazing.
Especially if they've only seen
generosity from you.
The way they ask you And I ask
you, have you seen nothing but generosity from
Allah?
Ask like that.
But if my kid come and ask me,
hey, I want this thing. I'm like, nah.
He's like, alright. Cool. I'm like, alright. That
was easy.
He ain't want it for real for real.
But if he just keeps finally, I'm the
weak parent. I'll be like, alright. Cool. Let's
go get ice cream, man. Come on. Let's
go. Let's go. Come on. Let's go.
Let's go. Come on, man.
I was thinking about the persistence of a
toddler when the toddler asks his mother or
his merciful father for something. They don't quit.
That's our dua, y'all. So,
in this moment,
he says, give me what you promised me,
you Allah.
Give me what you promise me. He goes,
if you don't wanna be worshiped after today,
you won't be worshiped. If we're destroyed, You
Allah,
you won't be worshipped on this earth. Oh
my God. Such powerful words.
And then Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
he starts just pleading with Allah.
Please You Allah.
He's stretching out his hands towards the qiblah.
Listen to
this. His his his shaw falls off his
back.
He has like a shaw on. Right?
And the shah falls off his back.
And it's kind of like this kind of
like, oh.
Like, that's how much he's, like, making du'a.
And lo and behold, someone comes from behind.
Abu Bakr as Siddiq comes from behind.
For Ashfaqah, he was feeling like
sadness for the prophet in how he's making
dua.
Like it was breaking his heart the way
the prophet was making dua.
So he comes from behind. I want you
to picture your Habib and I want you
to picture his best friend in this moment.
I want you to see it. He comes
from behind. He lifts up the shawl and
he wraps the shawl around him and holds
him.
Abu Bakr as Siddir,
he holds them.
They're on the ground together and he's holding
them.
And he says to him in this moment
as he holds them, he says,
Enough, enough,
enough.
Allah will give you what he promised you.
Allah will give you what he promised you.
Allah will give you what he promised you.
Isn't that beautiful?
To have a friend like there that would
come and hold you from behind and
and hold you in that moment where you're
just begging Allah?
Someone who will
tell you it's gonna be okay.
Not the friend that's telling you that
it's all gonna fall apart.
He's holding him and he says, Hasbuk.
You know what it reminds me of?
When Khadija said,
No. Allah won't disgrace you.
Just like that. Same tone. She said,
No. Allah will never disgrace you. Here we
are 14 years later, and Abu Bakr is
holding him from behind. He goes, Hasbuk.
Enough. Allah will give you what he promised
you. Allah will give you what he promised
you.
And all of us in this room need
to know Allah will give us what he
promised us.
You know about this dua?
Salahuddin
Ayubi, the night that he conquered Uzz,
The night that he freed
Uzz.
Masjid Al Aqsa.
In his biography,
it's written that he made a du'a just
like this. He said, Allah, I have no
more wealth. I have given everything. If we
aren't victorious tomorrow, this won't happen.
On the night before,
Is he preparing the army? No.
He's like this.
That's
You've persisted upon God.
He'll give you what He promised you. He'll
give you what He promised you.
The battle begins
I'm not gonna go into the all the
details of the battle, but it was a
battle of miracles.
And this is the only battle in the
history of Islam where the malaikah, the angels,
participated in the battle.
They fought alongside the believers.
There were 2 men
from Ridfan.
Ibn Abbas narrates.
He goes,
2 men,
they came to 1 of them narrated the
story after.
2 men from Ratfan, they say,
we came to Badr to watch the battle.
We weren't on the Quraysh side. We weren't
on the Muslim side.
It was like we're in the the stands
watching.
And they said, our plan was to watch
who wins and then when it's over to
steal some of the plunder, the the spoils
of war after.
He says, me and my nephew
were sitting on a mountaintop overlooking Badr,
and it's about to go down.
And he says, I look to my side,
and I see a cloud,
like, kinda approaching me.
And as the cloud gets closer, I hear
the words
means go forward, oh, Hazum.
Hazum is
Jibrael's
horse.
He goes,
the sound was so
intense
that my nephew next to me had a
heart attack on the spot. He dropped dead.
He dropped dead on the spot.
He said, I was I felt I was
about to die. He said, fa'amlaktu nafsi. I
got my strength back. I got my strength
back.
And then later he became I mean, you're
gonna become Muslim too. You see that later.
He became Muslim. He told us this story
later.
You know, you hear Jibreel saying, Akdim Hazum.
You're like, that's it.
You better take Shahadah.
Ibn Abbas,
the battle goes on. I'm not gonna go
to the details of the battle. I want
us to focus on what this battle represents
for us, especially
right now.
This represents the lack of any material means
to win.
But every spiritual
every spiritual capacity was in their hearts, that's
why victory was given.
Don't get me wrong. He did what he
had to do.
He tied his camel.
But the quality that unlocked I was talking
to a sheikh before. He said, look. The
nus the nusrah will come.
But what was it that gave them that?
It was the Ikhlas.
It was this level of sincerity and belief
in Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
There's a Sahabi by the name of Okasha.
This was a battle of miracles.
It's a battle of miracles, and we'll see
them again.
We'll see you'll see them. We will see
them again.
But we have to build the iman.
Okasha.
Okasha was in this battle.
He was the one who
prophet he said he's the the Farsan Al
Arab, the best,
horseback man of all the Arab.
In the middle of the battle, the thick
of the battle,
his sword breaks. I mean, we only have
a few of them anyway.
His sword breaks.
So he runs back to where the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam is And he comes
with his broken sword.
And he says, You Rasulullah. What am I
supposed to do?
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, battle of
miracles. He picks up a piece of hethal,
a firewood,
and he puts it in his hand. And
he says, go fight with this.
Akashya, he goes, I shook it. I don't
know why. I just I shook it. He
says it was a sword.
It was a sword.
Kid kid you not. He fought for the
rest of his life with this sword.
They named I forgot the name of the
sword.
Aw,
Awn. Oh, Allahu Akbar.
Awn. That and the word means help and
the person just helped me. That was so
cool. Alright.
The name of the sword was Aun and
he fought Everyone knew what Aun was. Everyone
was like, yo, that was the joint. Can
I borrow it? No. That's my hand.
He put the wood in his hand and
he said fight with this. But Akashia doesn't
say, which what do what like, what am
I supposed to do with this? He just
takes it and he picks it up because
we didn't have materials in the 1st place.
We're not supposed to win this anyway.
The material was all against us.
Okasha,
he has a funny a beautiful story.
One day, the prophet, sallallahu alaihi wasallam, was
speaking about
some Shuhada that will come in the future.
And he says,
these will be people that fight on the
ocean. Oh, my time is running.
So, Oqasha,
he goes and they'll enter into Jannah without
any hisab, without any reckoning.
Ocasha stands up, and he goes, You Rasulullah,
make Dua one of them.
And the prophet says,
Like, it was a of Ijab. It was
a moment of acceptance.
Another guy he thinks he's smart. Another guy
goes, me too, You Rasoolah. He goes, nah.
It's too late. No. He already got it.
Like, it was a moment of acceptance.
Rasul the battle happens.
Abbas was captured. Abbas was the prophet's uncle,
but most likely, he was already Muslim. He
was forced to go to this battle.
Abbas was captured. Some say, ibn Masood. Ibn
Masood used to say, I captured him.
Abbas is a big man. He's as big
as Omar.
Ibn Masud, I don't know if y'all remember,
but he had very, like, skinny ankles. Y'all
remember this story? I will tell you another
day. One day he was climbing a tree,
and he lifted up his his his, Juba,
and the Sahaba see his legs,
And they're like, oh man, it's Skip's leg
day. Right? Like
because his legs were very skinny and so
they wrote They were like us, they were
people, they crack jokes. So they were like,
yo, what's up with your leg? And the
prophet right there the prophet right there, he
goes, those legs will be heavier than the
mountain of on
the on the scale of good deeds.
Everybody's just, like, quiet.
Just be quiet. We're gonna end that one
right there.
The battle takes place. Within moments, the Muslims
are victorious.
There are so many examples of what happened
and and and and all of that.
I'm gonna skip through that just so we
can get some more lessons before a time
of Maghrib becomes. It's time?
It's it's literally time?
Okay.
Sayeb.
Sayeb, before we stop here,
I just want to say that the Battle
of Badr
represents that our material wealth
is not what we fight with, but truly
it's our spiritual strength that gives us victory.
The verses I began with are where Allah
says,
Allah gave you nusrah while you were at
your weakest
moment.
This is for us as Muslims. This is
for the Muslims of the entire Ummah because
we feel like we're weak and there's nothing
we can do despite
oppressors being right in our backyard.
Then Allah says,
be conscious of Allah. Build your consciousness. Build
that yaqeen.
When Allah when the prophet gives you a
stick and says, fight with this,
you go, this is what I'm a fight
with.
You go, this is what I'm a fight
with, and this is what we'll be victorious
with. That's where their victory is. The prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam I'll wrap up. I'm
a take 3 minutes.
At the end of the battle,
there were 70 prisoners of war.
A total of 70
non Muslims died in this battle. 70.
Comparing that to the bloodshed of oppressive regimes
today.
70 and 14 Sahaba passed away.
There were prisoners of war, and the prophet
did not know what to do with them.
This was the first time.
So he gathers Abu Bakr and Umar and
a few, and he's like, what should we
do?
Abu Bakr, subhanAllah, he goes, You Rasulullah,
these are our family members.
They this, that, and the third. He mentions
all of these things about them, and he
goes, maybe one day they'll become Muslim later.
Who knows?
And the prophet looks at Umar. Umar, what
should we do?
Umar is like, you Rasulullah, these are the
heads of Kufr.
These are people that fought against us. They
tried kill us. They did the worst things
to you. You Rasulullah, they have to be
taken they have to be killed,
or else we'll be impacted by them later.
Rasulullah inclined to Abu Bakr's opinion.
He inclined to Abu Bakr's opinion,
and then he ransomed them. Those who had
wealth, they paid their freedom.
Those who had no wealth, do you know
what he did? He built society. He said,
Do you know how to read and write?
If the prisoner said yes, he said, you
have to teach this many children how to
read and write, and then you're free.
He built the community out of that.
One of the people that was captured,
I'm done, I promise, was the husband
of Zaynab,
the daughter of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
Her husband was amongst those captured.
So when Zaynab found out her husband was
captured, she sent something to ransom.
She sent her mother Khadija's necklace that she
had given her.
When the prophet, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, deep,
it drops into his hand. His heart breaks.
Every memory of Khadija floods through him. Every
memory of her supporting him, helping him, crying
with him, praying with him, taking care of
the children, raising a family, every memory, the
memory of her death, it all floods back
into his heart.
He says, can y'all just free this man?
Give back this to my daughter. Please give
it back.
And then he tells her husband, he says,
please, I'll send you back. Send my daughter
to me. I wanna see her.
At the same time that the battle ended,
Uthman bin Affan was married to Ruqaiyah, the
prophet's daughter.
We were coming back with news of victory.
Ruqayah had passed away. The prophet had to
bury his daughter.
Even in our heart highest moment, there will
be difficulties.
The Muslims are celebrating,
but my daughter just passed away too.
My daughter just passed away too.
These are some
reflections
from the Battle of Badr.
These are some reflections of the Battle of
Badr.
It speaks to us in our
as a ummah,
but it also speaks to you as a
person.
May Allah
allow us to look at our through eyes
of spirituality.
May
Allah ease the suffering of our brothers and
sisters
all over the world, Khuzuz and Khuzah. May
Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, make it easy for
the people of Sudan.
May Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, alleviate the suffering
of our brothers and sisters throughout the world.
May Allah give
us those spiritual realities that will bring the
miracles like this time, inshallah.
