Do you know why this verse was revealed?
Many of us right now feel very overwhelmed
because of a year into a genocide of
Gaza, what we are seeing of the atrocities
that Israel is committing in Lebanon, those incisions
are still going through in Sudan, the Uighurs,
and so many parts of this ummah.
When the companions were fighting in the battle
of Uhud, they numerically lost.
So many of the companions had been martyred
and the tafsir of al-Tabri mentions many
of the companions were just so wounded or
had been killed or they were so overwhelmed
emotionally and they were beginning to lose hope.
And so Allah revealed a verse and I
think this verse is going to surprise you.
The second reason mentioned for the revelation of
this verse is Khalid ibn Waleed, before he
was a Muslim, he was the one who
was directing the army of those who were
attacking the companions and he was going to
ascend on the mount and so the prophet,
he made a dua asking Allah not to
allow them to be overcome.
This is the battle where the prophet's face
was so * that Fatimah al-Aziz were
the ones to patch up his face, cauterize
the wound.
Saba jumped in to protect the prophet.
Everywhere he looked she was defending him.
The companions were overwhelmed but what does Allah
say to them?
وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَنْتُمُ الْأَعْلَوْنَ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ
مُؤْمِنِينَ Do not lose heart.
Do not grieve.
You will have the upper hand if you
are believers.
Would someone say that Uhud was won by
the Muslims in a numerical sense?
No.
Did Uhud facilitate the opening of so many
other necessary changes for the eventual Fath of
Mecca?
Allah is telling them don't worry.
You will be victorious while they are witnessing.
Throughout the Quran and the Sunnah our emotions
are acknowledged.
We should be devastated and enraged.
It's okay to have moments where you are
numb and not even know how to navigate
your life because of what you are witnessing.
Allah knew the end and Allah knows our
end.
Every time you feel like there's no hope
I want you to put yourself in the
place of a companion who was in Uhud.
When they were so overwhelmed they felt like
there was no hope.
Allah told them don't lose heart.
