Maryam Amir – Did women companions participate in society

I keep hearing people say that the woman companions were not actively

involved in society, and that the few examples who were were

anomalies, and that women today should not take the exception as

the rule. But what about um sulei rodi Allahu anha, when on the day

of hunayn, she took out a dagger, and the Prophet, peace be upon

him, asked her about it, and she made him laugh with his response.

Was she an exception to the rule of woman, not being actively

engaged in society, invisibly present in public? What about a

Mother of the Believers who, in istijla, made Ethiop with the

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and without pads, tampons,

menstrual cups, she put a tray underneath her in the masjid to

catch the blood at a time when there was no partition between men

and women. Was she an exception to the rule? What about when Zainab,

the wife of ibn Masud, a scholar amongst the Companions, asked him

to ask the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, a question on her

behalf. And Ibn mesud responded to her by saying, Why don't you ask

him yourself, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Was she an exception to

the rule? Was his answer encouraging an exception to that

rule? What about when Asmaa narrates hearing and the message

of the Prophet? Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam from the Prophet, peace

be upon him. What happens in the grave? And then all the Companions

got really loud, and she couldn't hear the end of what he said,

sallAllahu, alayhi wa sallam. So she turned to the man in front of

her and she said, may Allah bless you. And she asked him to fill her

in on what she missed was that interaction an anomaly in the time

of the Prophet. Peace be upon him. Many of us have heard the

statement of Aisha radiAllahu anha, who praised the woman of the

Ansar because their shyness did not keep them from asking

questions. But do you know why she made this statement? Because Asmaa

bin Sheik went to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and

asked about how to purify herself after *. She didn't ask

a man to go ask the Prophet, peace be upon him. That question on her

behalf and all of us now this whole Ummah has benefited from her

asking that question, Was she an anomaly to women being actively

present and visible in society? Ibn abisily mentioned seeing

samura Binu Haik actively, loudly, visibly, forcefully calling people

to good and forbidding evil. Imam Al tabarani talks about this

incident and says that it's not permissible for anyone to take

culture and place it over Islamic law, to take a path of

cautiousness and expect other people to be cautious. Why do you

think we have the rulings of hijab and how to interact with one

another? The example of even one of these women is greater than all

of us combined, and she would be enough of an example for us. When
