Parents never made me feel like I was
too much, like my personality was too big.
And that is a message I do receive
all the time within certain community spaces.
I know what it's like when you have
to navigate
who you really are,
and completely hiding
that core inner
self
because
of messages of what modesty actually means,
which are not Islamically based. They are fully
based in culture.
But the pressure to conform
to them is so real. And for all
of the sisters who are struggling with this,
who have struggled with this, who parents, who
your daughter struggle with this, I want you
to know
that Allah made you the way that you
are for a reason.
