fawzan azeema amma ba'd Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala created us and he sent us messengers
to guide us to guide us, to teach
us who Allah is and what Allah wants
from us and so Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala has told us that he didn't just
create us to live and die and that's
it but rather he created us to serve
him, to worship him wama khalaqtul jinna wal
-insa illa liyabudoon and I did not create
the jinn nor humankind except for them to
worship me but now this worship of Allah
differs from person to person it varies
depending on one thing depending on their knowledge
of who Allah is and thus their veneration,
their reverence of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and so the greatest problem that human beings
face is that they don't know who Allah
is and thus they can't venerate him they
can't revere him they can't consider him to
be great and so we get to know
who Allah is and we get to know
how great Allah is through looking at the
creation around us and so start with your
own human self wafee anfusikum afala tubsiroon and
in you human beings are signs signs of
the greatness of Allah will you then not
see?
and so just think about your human body
with all of its massive intricate control systems
think about your brain, how it functions how
it retrieves information how it distinguishes information in
a millionth of a second think about your
heart and how it continuously pumps blood intaking,
discharging at a very very steady precise pace
think about your lungs think about how you
breathe think about all of your other systems
in your body and then look around you
look at this world around you look at
the animals, the fish, the oceans, the trees,
the mountains look at these small creations of
Allah these chemical elements some of which have
not even been discovered until today and are
not even detectable think about how all of
these different creations have a law that they
follow all of their laws that they follow
are in total synchronization and harmony and balance
then look above look at the sky above
us look at how our planet is one
of many in this solar system look at
how this planet of ours is where it
is located in this solar system if it
was just slightly closer to the sun it
would be too hot to live if it
was just slightly away from the sun it
would be too cold to live on then
think about how this solar system is one
of many in this galaxy and how this
galaxy is one of millions in this universe
this universe that we have discovered only a
fraction of until this very day with all
of our scientific and technological advancements this is
the creation of Allah and the greatness of
the creation points to the greatness of the
creator هذا خلق الله فاروني ماذا خلق الذين
من دونه this is the creation of Allah
so show me what these other false gods
have created and so my dear brothers and
sisters this is how we get to know
the greatness of Allah that will lead to
veneration of Allah SWT and His reverence, His
Ta'zeem but we also get to know
Allah SWT through what He has told us
about Himself through His prophets and messengers and
so we know that Allah is Al-Azeem,
Al-Kabeer The Great, Al-Ali, Al-Muta
'al, Al-Mutakabbir all of these are names
of Allah that point to His greatness and
His superiority and His authority over everything else
that He has created and so all of
these names and attributes of Allah that we
have been told of by Allah and His
messengers they are attributes of perfection indicating the
greatness of Allah Allah tells us about His
greatness when He refers to some of the
greatest of His creation Allah says وَسِعَ كُرُسِيُهُ
السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ The Kursi of Allah extends over
the heavens and the earth think about it
this earth and the seven heavens the Kursi
of Allah extends over all of that but
that's not where it ends the Kursi of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is still small
compared to something else and that is the
Arsh of Allah, His throne Abdullah ibn Mas
'ud radiallahu anhu he says trying to give
us a picture of how great the creation
of Allah is he says the distance between
the lowest heaven السماء الدنيا the heaven of
the dunya the distance between the first heaven
and the second is the distance of 500
years traveling traveling on what?
not on airplanes or rockets but on horseback
and then the distance between one heaven and
the next is likewise 500 years travel he
says and then the distance between the last
heaven the seventh heaven and the Kursi of
Allah because Allah tells us in Ayatul Kursi
that His Kursi extends over the heavens and
the earth so he says the distance between
the seventh heaven and the Kursi of Allah
is likewise 500 years and then he says
and the distance between the Kursi and the
water is 500 years what is this water?
Allah tells us in the Quran وَكَانَ عَرُشُهُ
عَلَى الْمَاءِ there is a body of water
that Allah's Arsh, His throne is above that
body of water so the distance between the
Kursi of Allah and this body of water
is 500 years he says and the Arsh,
the throne of Allah is above the water
وَاللَّهُ فَوْقَ الْعَرْشِ وَلَا يَخْفَى عَلَيْهِ أَعْمَالَكُ and
Allah is above His Arsh, His throne and
nothing of what you do is hidden or
concealed from Allah imagine that he says this
at the very end to dispel any doubt
in our minds that if this is the
huge distance between us and Allah then maybe
there are some things that we can do
that are hidden from Allah and so he
says no even with this mighty distance between
us and Allah he's still closer to us
as Allah says in the Qur'an وَنَحْنُ
أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ we are closer
to man than his own jugular vein meaning
Allah is closer to us in His knowledge
and His sight and His hearing He is
closer to us even though He is Himself
far above above His creation above His throne
because the throne of Allah is the mightiest
of Allah's creation and it is like a
dome over the creation of Allah the Prophet
ﷺ describing comparing the Arsh of Allah to
His Kursi the Prophet ﷺ says مَا السَّمَاوَاتُ
السَّبْعُ مَعَ الْكُرْسِ إِلَّا كَحَلْقَةٍ مُلْقَاطٌ بِأَرْضِ فَلَا
the Prophet ﷺ says that the seven heavens
compared to the Kursi of Allah is like
nothing but a metal ring that you take
and you throw it into a vast, open,
barren land the seven heavens and the earth
is like that small ring and the land
is like the Kursi of Allah the Prophet
ﷺ went on to say وَفَضْلُ الْعَرْشِ عَلَى
الْكُرْسِ كَفَضْلِ الْفُؤَلَاتِ عَلَى الْحَلْقَةِ and the Arsh,
the throne of Allah compared to the Kursi
of Allah is like that huge, barren, empty
land that being like the Arsh, the throne
and the ring being like the Kursi of
Allah even though we know that the Kursi
of Allah extends over the heavens and the
earth so imagine how great the throne of
Allah must be this is something we are
permitted to imagine why?
because the throne of Allah is part of
His creation it's something Allah has created but
even if you try to imagine it you
will never be able to imagine its reality
because of how huge it is how massive
it is so if that is the case
with the greatest of Allah's creation then how
about Allah?
how great must Allah be?
whose greatness has no limit whose greatness cannot
be perceived whose greatness cannot be comprehended Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and all of His
attributes cannot be imagined cannot be comprehended
even though we have been told about them
there is no way for us to imagine
them to imagine Allah or any of His
attributes why?
because Allah is not from this creation Allah
is uncreated He is the first before whom
there was nothing and He created everything so
in existence you have the created and the
uncreated so even if you try to imagine
how Allah is Allah is far beyond your
imagination why?
because your imagination is something that you have
carved out in your mind it is a
creation that you have created and Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala is far beyond His creation
there is nothing like Allah and He is
the all-hearing and the all-seeing and
so we affirm all of Allah's attributes without
denying or changing their meanings and without explaining
or trying to imagine how or trying to
liken and resemble Allah and His attributes to
that of His creation so
ask His forgiveness, for He is the most
forgiving and most merciful and
a bearer of glad tidings and a warner
He conveyed the message and fulfilled the trust
and advised the Ummah and left us on
the white path its night is like its
day nothing escapes it but destruction may Allah's
peace and blessings be upon him and upon
his pure family and his companions and his
companions of the right hand and those who
followed their path and their traces disappeared until
the Day of Judgment so fear Allah, O
servants of Allah and make peace between yourselves
and obey Allah and His Messenger if you
are believers whoever gets to know Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala whoever gets to know Allah
gains some knowledge of who Allah is it
leads to something this knowledge, it leads to
Iman and that Iman, it leads to what
is known as Ta'zeem it leads to
the veneration of Allah the reverence of Allah
the glorification of Allah it leads one to
look at Allah as being great as being
someone who deserves all honor all veneration and
all praise and so that leads to then
venerating and revering whatever comes from Allah of
His commands of His prohibitions of whatever He
has legislated as well as whatever He has
decreed for us once we understand who Allah
is and who we are we understand that
whatever Allah tells us whether it is related
to His commandments and prohibitions or whatever is
related to what He has decreed we submit
to it we submit to it because of
where it's coming from it's coming from Allah
Al-Azim, Al-Kabir, the greatest of whom
there is no one greater than and so
when you want to disobey someone you don't
look at the command or the prohibition you
ask who is it that is commanding me
and so if it's a nobody in your
eyes you'll disobey him because you don't care
who this person is but if it's someone
you hold in high regard you would think
twice before disobeying if you receive a letter
in the mail from the authorities it shakes
you immediately you get on the phone you
start calling lawyers, why?
because the authorities are something in your eyes
and so Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A
'la has sent us a letter 1400 years
ago but unfortunately many Muslims today they don't
hold this letter in any regard they don't
care when they're told that Allah has said
such and such or his messenger has said
such and such they don't care why?
because they don't have any regard for Allah
Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la in their
hearts and so this is why a certain
people this is why a certain people venerated
considered great small minor things from the salaf
of this ummah from the sahaba, the tabi
'oon in those early generations there were pious
people who considered small things that we consider
as being small and insignificant today they used
to hold themselves to account over these small
things why?
because they had veneration for Allah in their
hearts while others major sins they don't care
it's as if it's not a big deal
and that's why some of the scholars have
said لا تنظر إلى صغر الذنب ولكن انظر
إلى عظمة من عصيت don't look at how
small the sin is but rather look at
the greatness of the one who you have
disobeyed and this is why Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala three times in the Qur'an
he criticizes those who have no value for
Allah in their hearts Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala repeats this phrase three times in the
Qur'an وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ they
didn't give Allah the due honor, veneration that
He is most deserving of in Surah Al
-An'am Allah says وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ
قَدْرِهِ إِذْ قَالُوا مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى بَشَرٍ
مِّن شَيْءٍ they didn't give Allah the due
honor, veneration that He is most deserving of
when they said that Allah has not sent
any revelation to any human being and in
Surah Al-Hajj وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَقَوِيٌ عَزِيزٌ they have not given
Allah the due honor, veneration that He is
most deserving of and indeed Allah is the
all-powerful and the almighty Allah said this
in Surah Al-Hajj in the context, in
the context of refuting those who worship false
gods Allah says that these false gods have
no power they are powerless and so look
at how these people worship false gods that
have no power why would they do such
a thing?
because, because they have no veneration for Allah
in their eyes and the third time Allah
mentions this is in Surah Az-Zumar وَمَا
عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ and they did not give Allah
the due honor and veneration that He is
most deserving of and yet, and yet the
earth will be in the grip of Allah
on the day of judgment and the heavens
will be rolled up in His right hand
Abdullah ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه he says
about this ayah the seven heavens and the
earth in Allah's hands is like a mustard
seed in one of our hands and so
likewise you have not given Allah the honor
and veneration He is most deserving of when
you disobey Allah knowingly and you haven't given
Allah the due honor and veneration that He
is most deserving of when you do something
that He has clearly forbidden knowingly, as if
you don't care as if it's not a
big deal and you haven't given Allah the
due honor and veneration that He is most
deserving of when you complain and you object
to what Allah has decreed for you of
suffering, of calamities and all of that is
because you have failed to recognize who Allah
is and who you are as a small
creation of Allah سبحانه وتعالى the veneration of
Allah His تعظيم in your heart if you
want to test yourself to see how much
do I venerate Allah the yardstick that you
should use is that when you are in
front of two options when you are in
front of something that is pleasing to you
that is tempting to you but then you
hear and you know that Allah has forbidden
this what will you do?
what will your reaction be?
something that is tempting to you not something
not something that you have a natural dislike
for and Allah has made it haram because
that's easy for everyone or something that Allah
has told us to do or a good
deed that is easy for you that is
convenient for you for example you may be
rich giving sadaqa is easy and convenient for
you that's not where the تعظيم the veneration
of Allah comes out it comes out when
something is difficult for your nafs where your
nafs is inclining to do something wanting to
satisfy its pleasures and you abandon it for
the sake of Allah that is when you
know that there is something in your heart
of the veneration of Allah the تعظيم of
Allah Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and that
is why Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala the
Prophet ﷺ tells us that Allah will shade
on the day of judgment seven people under
his shade on a day in which there
will be no shade except his and he
mentioned seven individuals certain things that they did
in order to earn that reward on the
day of judgment what do we notice among
all of these seven people?
they had the تعظيم of Allah in their
hearts that led them to do what they
did Allahumma
