00:01:26 --> 00:01:30

was in Hawaii, my dad, my dear brothers and sisters.

00:01:32 --> 00:01:34

It was only as if

00:01:35 --> 00:01:36

it was a short while back

00:01:38 --> 00:01:42

that we were bidding farewell to the month of Ramadan.

00:01:45 --> 00:01:49

And today we are welcoming the month of Ramadan once again.

00:01:54 --> 00:01:55

A year has gone by

00:01:58 --> 00:02:00

from one Ramadan to the next.

00:02:02 --> 00:02:04

And the year of your life has gone by.

00:02:05 --> 00:02:11

And that my dear brothers and sisters, is the very nature of this life in which we live.

00:02:14 --> 00:02:14

It's a cycle.

00:02:16 --> 00:02:18

One year comes in one year goes.

00:02:20 --> 00:02:22

And we are constantly

00:02:23 --> 00:02:25

in this never ending cycle

00:02:26 --> 00:02:29

that will one day soon come to an end.

00:02:31 --> 00:02:34

And this is how this dunya is.

00:02:36 --> 00:02:38

It was only yesterday

00:02:41 --> 00:02:44

that you're welcoming a new born into this world.

00:02:46 --> 00:02:48

And today you're praying his janazah

00:02:50 --> 00:02:57

it was only yesterday that you received your birth certificate. And today you're receiving your death certificate.

00:03:00 --> 00:03:02

Yesterday when you were born,

00:03:03 --> 00:03:05

you came into this Junior crying

00:03:06 --> 00:03:09

while those around you were smiling and laughing.

00:03:11 --> 00:03:19

Tomorrow, the people around you will be crying as they're burying you into your brain.

00:03:25 --> 00:03:26

But do your brothers and sisters

00:03:28 --> 00:03:31

as their month of Ramadan approaches

00:03:32 --> 00:03:34

and is on our doorstep.

00:03:36 --> 00:03:37

There are a few pointers

00:03:39 --> 00:03:41

that we need to keep in mind.

00:03:43 --> 00:03:47

A few pieces of advice that I asked lots of how to how to

00:03:48 --> 00:03:50

to benefit each and every single one of us.

00:03:51 --> 00:03:52

The first point

00:03:53 --> 00:04:00

is that the true believer he looks forward. He longs for he yearns

00:04:02 --> 00:04:03

for the coming of the month of Ramadan.

00:04:06 --> 00:04:07

He looks forward to it.

00:04:08 --> 00:04:09

He longs for it.

00:04:11 --> 00:04:19

Because he knows that it's an opportunity for the editor of Allah subhanho wa Taala it's an opportunity to get closer to Allah subhana wa Tada.

00:04:21 --> 00:04:23

And so just like businessmen,

00:04:24 --> 00:04:27

they don't make profit all at one time throughout the year.

00:04:29 --> 00:04:34

But rather, they look forward to certain seasons in which

00:04:36 --> 00:04:38

they look forward to making a lot of profit.

00:04:39 --> 00:04:46

Likewise, the loss of Hannah who went to Hana has made certain times of the year to be profitable

00:04:47 --> 00:04:49

to gain reward,

00:04:50 --> 00:04:53

to stock up those rewards to invest in our outlets.

00:04:55 --> 00:04:57

And so it is mentioned in another

00:04:58 --> 00:04:59

Ramadan

00:05:00 --> 00:05:02

Wouldn't wondering what min what hormone Allah?

00:05:03 --> 00:05:13

The Ramadan is a profit for the believer but it is a loss for the wicked. This is why the seller

00:05:17 --> 00:05:19

they would make to her to Allah subhanahu wa tada

00:05:21 --> 00:05:32

six months prior to the coming of the month of Ramadan asking Allah subhanho wa Taala to give them the opportunity to witness the month of Ramadan

00:05:35 --> 00:05:35

secondly,

00:05:37 --> 00:05:40

this year has been a tough one

00:05:41 --> 00:05:43

this year that has gone by

00:05:45 --> 00:05:47

has taken with it many

00:05:50 --> 00:05:52

there were those who were with us last Ramadan

00:05:53 --> 00:05:55

who are no longer with us today.

00:05:57 --> 00:05:58

And they are many

00:06:00 --> 00:06:04

whether they be friends, whether they be relatives, whether they be family.

00:06:06 --> 00:06:10

Whether they be scholars, we all know

00:06:11 --> 00:06:12

of someone

00:06:13 --> 00:06:15

who was with us last Ramadan

00:06:17 --> 00:06:18

and they are not with us today.

00:06:20 --> 00:06:22

What does that teach us?

00:06:23 --> 00:06:25

It teaches us

00:06:26 --> 00:06:29

to take this month of Ramadan seriously.

00:06:30 --> 00:06:39

Why because if you were with us last Ramadan, and you are with us this Ramadan, it may be that you won't be here next Ramadan

00:06:43 --> 00:06:47

it's also time to take advantage of it's not a time to waste.

00:06:50 --> 00:07:02

Many of us we've gotten into the habit of spending hours upon hours behind that screen behind our phones. It's time to put those phones down

00:07:05 --> 00:07:07

and spend hours behind the must have

00:07:09 --> 00:07:10

spent time in the masjid.

00:07:12 --> 00:07:18

If you are alive today, it is a blessing from Allah subhanho wa Taala not to waste.

00:07:20 --> 00:07:37

If the masajid here are open this Ramadan for us, but yet they are closed for many in other parts of the world. It's a blessing for us. The others have been deprived. Don't let it go to waste.

00:07:38 --> 00:07:52

Don't say I'm gonna spend Ramadan at home this year, just like I did last year. If the mystery is open, then we're excused you have come pre the daily follow up. Come pre salata. taraweeh

00:07:56 --> 00:07:57

Thirdly,

00:08:01 --> 00:08:02

we were beware

00:08:04 --> 00:08:07

beware of something very dangerous,

00:08:08 --> 00:08:10

that has afflicted many Muslims today.

00:08:12 --> 00:08:13

This is something

00:08:14 --> 00:08:18

that we may say, You know what? It doesn't affect me.

00:08:19 --> 00:08:20

So it's not a big deal.

00:08:22 --> 00:08:31

But I'm sure each and every single one of us we know of Muslims, whether they be family, relatives, friends, people we know

00:08:32 --> 00:08:34

who have fallen into this.

00:08:36 --> 00:08:37

And this is

00:08:39 --> 00:08:40

neglecting,

00:08:41 --> 00:08:44

neglecting fasting the month of Ramadan.

00:08:47 --> 00:08:52

Fasting the month of Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam that the deen of Islam stands upon.

00:08:54 --> 00:09:01

And yet there are those Muslims who claim to be Muslims, and yet they don't care about fasting this month.

00:09:05 --> 00:09:08

In a hadith in which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam narrates

00:09:09 --> 00:09:17

a dream to his companions, certain scenes, certain horrible scenes that he saw in a dream.

00:09:20 --> 00:09:42

He told his companions that he was with these angels who are taking him from one place to another. He says until I was at a mountain and I heard loud voices. And I asked Who are these are what are these voices? What are the sounds and so the angels told him. This is the howling of the people of the hellfire.

00:09:44 --> 00:09:48

Then I was taken to a place where there were people

00:09:49 --> 00:09:52

who are hanging from their hamstrings,

00:09:54 --> 00:09:59

with their mouths with the corners of their mounts, ripped and torn

00:10:00 --> 00:10:01

dripping with blood.

00:10:02 --> 00:10:04

And so I asked Who are these?

00:10:07 --> 00:10:08

And so they said,

00:10:09 --> 00:10:10

these are people

00:10:11 --> 00:10:18

who would break their fast meaning in the month of Ramadan before the proper time was to break the fast.

00:10:20 --> 00:10:27

Meaning that these people intentionally did not fast, intentionally broke their fast in the month of Ramadan.

00:10:29 --> 00:10:33

And so the scholars of Islam unanimously agree that anyone

00:10:34 --> 00:10:39

who abandons fasting the month of Ramadan, even if it be one day,

00:10:40 --> 00:10:43

without a legitimate excuse,

00:10:44 --> 00:10:51

that it is a major sin. Some of these scholars even doubted whether such people were Muslim or not.

00:10:54 --> 00:11:11

00:11:32 --> 00:11:34

00:11:37 --> 00:11:40

00:11:42 --> 00:11:42

00:11:44 --> 00:12:06

Yeah, you have let you know, man with double wha well don't don't have some pedometer, you heard what the whole law in the law has to be on the matter.

00:12:08 --> 00:12:10

But your brothers and sisters,

00:12:11 --> 00:12:13

the last point I wanted to share with all of you,

00:12:15 --> 00:12:17

as we approach the month of Ramadan

00:12:19 --> 00:12:19

is

00:12:21 --> 00:12:23

something very, very important and that is

00:12:24 --> 00:12:26

the importance

00:12:28 --> 00:12:29

of learning

00:12:31 --> 00:12:32

and seeking knowledge

00:12:35 --> 00:12:37

of the rulings pertaining to the month of Ramadan,

00:12:39 --> 00:12:41

especially the rulings pertaining to fasting.

00:12:45 --> 00:12:56

And so when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam said, tolerable enemy for Muslim, that seeking knowledge is an obligation upon each and every single Muslim.

00:12:57 --> 00:13:01

What this means is seeking knowledge

00:13:03 --> 00:13:08

of that, which will make our data correct and valid.

00:13:09 --> 00:13:11

Otherwise, seeking knowledge

00:13:12 --> 00:13:13

is a virtue.

00:13:14 --> 00:13:25

Traveling to seek knowledge and spending years to seek knowledge and becoming a student of knowledge. That is a virtue that is not obligatory upon each and every single Muslim.

00:13:28 --> 00:13:38

But what is obligatory upon each and every single Muslim is to gain at least that much knowledge that will make our ibadah

00:13:39 --> 00:13:46

acceptable and valid in the sight of Allah subhana wa Tada. And so fasting is one of the pillars of Islam.

00:13:48 --> 00:13:55

Fasting is one of the pillars of Islam. And it has certain rulings that are connected to it.

00:13:56 --> 00:14:07

That no Muslim who has reached the age of puberty and is same has any excuse for being ignorant of these rulings.

00:14:08 --> 00:14:12

And so just like Salah has certain rulings attached to it.

00:14:14 --> 00:14:25

There are obligatory upon each and every single Muslim to be aware of. Likewise, fasting has certain rulings that each and every single Muslim must be aware of.

00:14:27 --> 00:14:34

But among these rulings, that is of upmost importance is that which is related to what

00:14:35 --> 00:14:49

makes a fast valued and what breaks the fast and so many, many ask concerning what breaks the fast does this break the fast does that break the fast?

00:14:51 --> 00:14:59

And so I want to leave us with three golden rules and three principles. If we were to understand these principles

00:15:01 --> 00:15:14

and memorize them, they will help us to resolve many questions that come to us during the month of Ramadan, concerning what breaks the fast The first of these principles is

00:15:16 --> 00:15:24

that nothing breaks the fast except that which has been mentioned by Allah or the messenger sallallahu alayhi wasallam.

00:15:26 --> 00:15:43

And so that which breaks the fast is among those things which are known as being matters of totally fear that which is dependent upon either a verse in the Quran or Hadith a statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. So if anyone comes to you and says this breaks the fast,

00:15:45 --> 00:15:47

and he doesn't quote for you in a year or heavy,

00:15:49 --> 00:15:57

then you have to ask him, what is the evidence from the Quran, or from the sooner that this particular thing, it breaks the fast.

00:15:58 --> 00:16:00

The second principle is

00:16:01 --> 00:16:04

that your fast only breaks

00:16:05 --> 00:16:07

with three conditions.

00:16:09 --> 00:16:32

If you know that something breaks the fast, it doesn't break the fast except if three conditions or if one of these three conditions are met. The first is that you do so while in a state of remembrance, meaning you don't break your fast forget fully. So if you break your fast forget fully, it doesn't break the fast real fast is still valid.

00:16:33 --> 00:16:34

The second condition is

00:16:35 --> 00:17:07

that you break your fast, you break it with knowledge, meaning you know that this thing breaks fast. It's not based upon ignorance. If you break your fast not knowing that this thing breaks your fast, then your fast is still valid. And the third is that you break your fast, willingly meaning that No one forced you to break your fast. If someone forces you to break your fast, and you have no other choice

00:17:08 --> 00:17:12

than your fast is still valid. The third principle

00:17:14 --> 00:17:17

the third principle is

00:17:19 --> 00:17:24

concerning what enters into our body. And this is where many people get confused.

00:17:27 --> 00:17:43

And so we say that as long as something enters into your mouth or your nose and reaches your stomach, then it breaks your fast because these are the normal passageways to the stomach.

00:17:45 --> 00:17:46

It doesn't matter what

00:17:47 --> 00:17:49

it doesn't matter what you swallow it

00:17:50 --> 00:17:55

as long as it enters through the mouth or through the nose, then it breaks your fast.

00:17:57 --> 00:17:58

But now how about

00:17:59 --> 00:18:03

things that enter your body through other than that normal passageway?

00:18:05 --> 00:18:18

This is where many people get confused. And we get question after question. Does this thing break the fast does that thing break the fast and these things are mostly medical related.

00:18:20 --> 00:18:22

And so things entering through the air,

00:18:23 --> 00:18:26

things entering through the eyes,

00:18:27 --> 00:18:29

things entering through injections.

00:18:31 --> 00:18:32

The rule is

00:18:34 --> 00:18:39

that anything that enters through to your body through other than the normal passageway

00:18:40 --> 00:18:47

if it provides nourishment to your body, replacing food and drink then it breaks the fast.

00:18:48 --> 00:18:52

But if it does not provide nourishment to the body, then it does not break the fast.

00:18:55 --> 00:18:57

It's all based upon this we understand

00:18:59 --> 00:19:04

that what many people are asking about these days about the COVID vaccine.

00:19:05 --> 00:19:21

It is a vaccination injection that does not provide nourishment to your body. Therefore it does not break the fast. And so if you have an appointment during the month of Ramadan, you don't have to cancel it. The injection does not break the fast.

00:19:23 --> 00:19:41

As for those injections that do break the fast then they are injections like IV injections were the purpose of it is to give you nourishment to replace food and drink that you cannot take. And so we ask Allah subhana wa Medina

00:19:43 --> 00:19:47

to give us knowledge of our Deen We ask Allah subhanahu wa tada

00:19:48 --> 00:20:00

to allow us to reach the month of Ramadan in a state of a man and in a state of good health has also loosened the mu rockenmacher mala Ananda be equal
