In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most
Merciful All praise is due to Allah, Lord
of the worlds And peace and blessings be
upon the best of Allah's creation And upon
his family, his companions, and those who are
guided by his guidance And who have adhered
to his Sunnah until the Day of Judgment
O Allah, teach us what will benefit us
And benefit us with what You have taught
us And increase us in knowledge And show
us the truth in truth And grant us
to follow it And show us falsehood in
falsehood And grant us to avoid it And
after that, peace and blessings be upon you
The Farewell Hajj This was the last Hajj
of the Prophet ﷺ And we spoke about
the importance of it, the significance of it
And after that he returned and on the
way He stopped by a place called Ghadeer
Khum Where he gave some pieces of advice
regarding his family And so now Rasool Allah
ﷺ has returned to Medina Towards the end
of the 10th year And this would have
been his final trip outside of Medina And
so now he is back and we are
now in the 11th year of the Hijrah
So the Prophet ﷺ was in Medina now
The remaining of Dhul Hijjah and Muharram And
now it is Safar of the 11th year
At this time in the month of Safar
Rasool Allah ﷺ Appointed Usama Ibn Zaid To
lead an army that would be sent once
again to the north To an area known
as Balqa' in Ash-Sham And the instructions
that he was given Was to step on
the land where his father was killed And
so we can see how the Prophet ﷺ
His focus was still on the north Which
is where the Roman Empire is First you
had the battle of Mu'tar in the 8th
year And that was led by the father
of Usama Zaid Ibn Haritha He was killed
And then you had the battle of Tabuk
In the 9th year of the Hijrah So
the Prophet ﷺ his attention and his focus
was on that area Also other expeditions that
he had sent to that area And now
you have this army that the Prophet ﷺ
is preparing to send And he appoints Usama
Ibn Zaid To lead an army of 3000
strong Now at the time How old was
Usama Ibn Zaid?
He was roughly 18 to 20 years old
So he was very young And the Prophet
ﷺ appointed him over this army That had
many other senior companions and seasoned fighters Who
had more experience in warfare and in leading
armies But here the Prophet ﷺ appoints a
very very young man To lead an army
that included the likes of Abu Bakr and
Umar and others from among the Muhajirun So
as a result As a result there was
some talk going around And we have to
understand the demographics of Medina at this time
It wasn't like in the early days Or
when the Prophet ﷺ made Hijrah to Medina
Or when he was in Mecca Now you
had so many different people of different colors
People of different backgrounds Who have joined Islam
And many under pressure, that's it Islam is
dominating Not everyone is joining Islam at this
time So you had a lot of people
who, their Iman was weak And so they
were objecting to the Prophet ﷺ appointing Usama
Ibn Zaid For one of two reasons Number
one because of his age, as we mentioned
And the other reason is that he belonged
to the slave caste His father was a
former slave Zaid Ibn Haritha Was with the
Prophet ﷺ in the early days of Mecca
And at the time he was a slave
He was the slave of the Prophet ﷺ
He was the very first slave to accept
Islam And the Prophet ﷺ later on, he
freed him And the Prophet ﷺ used to
love Zaid Ibn Haritha a lot So the
people were saying, how could he lead this
army?
So this talk reached the Prophet ﷺ In
Sahih al-Bukhari It says that when the
Prophet ﷺ heard this He got up and
he said If you are criticizing his leadership
You used to criticize the leadership of his
father before him By Allah And then the
Prophet ﷺ starts speaking about his father The
father of Usama, Zaid Ibn Haritha The Prophet
ﷺ said, by Allah, he deserved the leadership
Meaning the Prophet ﷺ appointed him to lead
In the battle of Mu'tah that we covered
In the 8th year of the Hijrah That
was the very first battle in which the
Muslims faced off against the Romans And it
wasn't just Zaid Ibn Haritha who was killed
But also many others from among the companions
and senior people So anyways, the Prophet ﷺ
says, by Allah, he deserved the leadership And
he used to be one of the most
beloved people to me And now he, meaning
the son, Usama Is one of the most
beloved people to me after him So with
this, the Prophet ﷺ basically He put an
end to that talk that was going on
Two days after the Prophet ﷺ appoints Usama
Ibn Zaid to lead the army Towards the
end of the month of Safar The beginning
of the end was now starting By now,
the Prophet ﷺ has received many ayat And
indications that his time was coming to an
end That his death was approaching We mentioned
last week, when we spoke about the farewell
hajj It was during this time, on the
day of Arafah That Allah reveals those ayat
In the beginning of Surah Al-Ma'idah
اليوم أكملت لكم دينكم On this day I
have completed for you your deen And we
mentioned, this was an indication that that's it
If the deen is now complete Then it
means that the Prophet ﷺ has completed his
mission And so now, there's nothing left Now
it's time to return to Allah ﷻ And
we mentioned how Umar ﷺ When he heard
this being revealed to the Prophet ﷺ He
recognized it and he started crying So when
he was asked, why are you crying?
He said, when something has gone up And
reached the point of completion There's nowhere to
go but down So he recognized that this
means That the end is near for the
Prophet ﷺ And we also mentioned other examples
This was not the only indication Before that,
with the conquest of Makkah In the 8th
year of the Hijrah Allah revealed Surah Al
-Nasr And Surah Al-Nasr talks about when
the victory of Allah comes And you see
the people entering into the deen of Allah
In large groups Then glorify the praises of
your Lord And seek istighfar, seek forgiveness And
you only seek forgiveness After you have completed
something After Salah we pray The first thing
we say is Astaghfirullah In the Hajj, same
thing You say istighfar afterwards Why?
Because any shortcomings You want to ask Allah
to forgive you For any shortcomings in your
ibadah So likewise Here Allah is commanding the
Prophet ﷺ to seek forgiveness For any shortcomings
along the way And that's why we mentioned
previously How Abdullah ibn Abbas When he was
asked by Umar r.a What do you
say about Surah Al-Nasr He says that
that was an indication That the death of
the Prophet ﷺ was approaching And also other
indications we mentioned In the farewell Hajj the
Prophet ﷺ said Take your manasik, your rituals
of the Hajj from me For I don't
know If I will perform Hajj after this
year or not So he was also giving
indications to the companions Also we mentioned Mu
'adh ibn Jabal When the Prophet ﷺ sent
him to Yemen And he was bidding him
farewell He was sending him to Yemen to
give da'wah there One of the things
that he told Mu'adh ibn Jabal He
said You may not see me after this
And we also mentioned Every year the Prophet
ﷺ, Jibreel would come to him And review
the Qur'an with him in Ramadan But
in the last year He reviewed it with
him twice And he saw that as an
indication that That's it I'm not going to
see another Ramadan after this Also that same
Ramadan The Prophet ﷺ made i'tikaf for 20
nights Whereas previously Every Ramadan he would only
make i'tikaf for 10 nights And so all
of these were indications The Prophet ﷺ was
well aware That the end is near And
he would also signal And make these indications
to the companions We have this hadith in
Suhih al-Bukhari Aisha narrates She says that
While she and the other wives of the
Prophet ﷺ were together His daughter Fatima walks
in The Prophet ﷺ welcomes her And asks
her to sit next to him And then
the Prophet ﷺ whispers something in her ear
Which makes her cry So then the Prophet
ﷺ He realizes that she was saddened So
then he whispered something else to her And
this time she laughed So Aisha says When
Rasulullah ﷺ got up and left I immediately
went to Fatima And I asked her What
did he tell you?
She said I will not disclose the secret
of the Prophet ﷺ Aisha says But then
when he passed away I went to Fatima
and I asked her I beg you to
tell me that secret Which the Prophet ﷺ
told you Aisha she was not going to
give up So Fatima she says yes Now
that you're asking me after his death I
will tell you The first secret that he
told me He told me that Jibreel used
to review the Quran with him Once every
year But this year he reviewed it with
him twice Therefore I think my death is
near So I cried And then the second
secret he told me He said be patient
For I am the best predecessor for you
In the Akhirah So I am basically Basically
what he was saying is That you're going
to be the first one to join me
She says She says And then the Prophet
ﷺ said The Prophet ﷺ said Will you
not be pleased oh Fatima To be Sayyida
nisaa al mu'mineen Or Sayyida nisaa hadhi al
ummah Are you not happy to be The
head of all the believing women And so
she says that is why I laughed So
basically this is one of the virtues of
Fatima That the Prophet ﷺ mentioned That she
is the leader of the believing women So
this was also another indication from the Prophet
ﷺ He was indicating to some of the
companions That his death was near And that
is exactly what ended up happening From the
family of the Prophet ﷺ The first one
to join him after his death Was none
other than Fatima She passed away six months
after The death of the Prophet ﷺ And
then we also have ayat That Allah ﷻ
revealed to the Prophet ﷺ During the course
of the revelation of the Qur'an Some
ayat in Mecca, some in Medina Indicating that
he will also eventually die General ayat That
he will die just like any other human
being Allah ﷻ says إِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌ وَإِنَّهُمْ مَيِّتُونَ
You will die, you will certainly die And
they will also die ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
عَنْدَ رَبِّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ Then on the Day of
Judgment You will settle all your disputes before
their Lord And Allah says وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَرٍ
مِنْ قَبْلِكَ الْخُلْدِ We have not given Eternity,
eternal life to anyone To no human being
before you, O Muhammad أَفَإِنْ مِتَّ فَهُمُ الْخَالِدُونَ
Then if you die, will they live on
forever?
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ Every soul will taste
death وَنَبَلُوكُمْ بِالشَّرِّ وَالْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةٌ وَإِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ And
we test you with good and evil As
a fitna, as a trial Then to us
you will all be returned So the death
of the Prophet ﷺ was inevitable And the
time was now quickly approaching Abu Muwayhibah He
was a freed slave of Rasulullah ﷺ He
says that one night, late at night The
Prophet ﷺ, he woke me up and he
said Oh Abu Muwayhibah, I have been commanded
To go and seek forgiveness for the people
of Baqi' The graveyard of Baqi' So come
along with me Now, who is buried at
Baqi'?
Basically, all the companions of the Prophet ﷺ
Who died years before him Having sacrificed everything
for him And supporting him all the way
until the end So he was now going
to go and bid them farewell And to
pray for them one last time So they
left, and when the Prophet ﷺ arrived there
He said, salamun alaikum ahla hadhihi al-qaboor
Peace be upon you all people of these
graves And then he congratulated them Saying congratulations
that You are not going through What the
people will be going through soon What is
that?
The Prophet ﷺ said, fitan, trials are coming
Like parts of the dark night The last
of them follows the first of them They're
going to come one after the other in
succession And the last of them is worse
than the first of them Meaning every fitna
that comes The one after is going to
be worse So the Prophet ﷺ was basically
congratulating them For having passed the test When
it was the most difficult time to do
so Right?
In the early days of Islam There was
a lot of pressure not to become Muslim
Not to remain steadfast It was difficult You
had to sacrifice everything And make hijrah To
live with the Prophet ﷺ in Medina He
was in a state of war Right?
So the Prophet ﷺ He was saying that
Congratulations to you that You passed away while
The hearts were still pure And the Muslims
were united Although it was difficult And so
he was basically telling them That they were
far better Far better off than the people
who are still alive Who are going to
be facing some major tests And these are
the fitna of the dunya And also of
the deen Which started shortly after the death
of the Prophet ﷺ Then the Prophet ﷺ
said to Abu Muwayhibah He said, Oh Abu
Muwayhibah I have been given the choice Of
either Having the keys of the treasures of
this dunya And living forever in it After
which I will have Jannah Or meeting my
Lord and entering Jannah So Abu Muwayhibah he
said Oh Messenger of Allah Choose the keys
of the treasures of this dunya And living
forever in it And then having Jannah after
that Right?
So he was saying As long as you
are being given this choice You're going to
go to Jannah either way Then why not
live in the dunya forever Until the last
day While being rich in the dunya Not
that you live in the dunya and you
live poor No, Allah is granting you The
keys of the treasures of the dunya So
the Prophet ﷺ said No, by Allah Abu
Muwayhibah I have chosen to meet my Lord
And enter Jannah now Then the Prophet ﷺ
He sought forgiveness for the people of Baqi'
And then he left And when he arrived
home This was when his final illness began
His final illness began And it will last
for many many days Many many difficult days
ahead of him Approximately 10 days Before his
death Aisha radiAllahu anha She narrates I was
experiencing a headache So I said She said,
wa ra'sa She said, my head, my head
is hurting So the Prophet ﷺ said Rather
it is me who should be saying wa
ra'sa I should be saying my head is
hurting And then he said What harm would
it do you If you were to die
before me So that I could wash you,
shroud you, pray over you and bury you
The Prophet ﷺ was asking Aisha radiAllahu anha
What do you think if you passed away
before me So look at Aisha radiAllahu anha
what she says Again showing her nature Which
she has shown many times before Her jealousy
For the Prophet ﷺ over her co-wives
She said I could see you right now,
I could imagine you That if I was
to pass away and you were to bury
me the next day You would return to
my house And then you would spend your
night with one of your wives So the
Prophet ﷺ smiled at this And then he
began to experience the illness From which he
would eventually pass away This is what Aisha
radiAllahu anha said So the Prophet ﷺ was
having a severe headache And also a severe
fever The fever was so severe That when
one of the companions came and put his
hand On the Prophet ﷺ He couldn't keep
his hand there He said that it was
too hot Ibn Mas'ud, Abdullah ibn Mas
'ud radiAllahu anha He says and this is
in Bukhari and Muslim He says I entered
upon Rasulullah ﷺ at a time When he
was going through great pain due to his
illness Touching him with my hand I said
Ya Rasulullah You're going through a great deal
of suffering due to your illness So he
said yes I am made to suffer twice
the amount of one of you So I
asked Is that because you will be rewarded
twice as much The Prophet ﷺ said yes
And then he said Whenever a Muslim is
afflicted with pain, with harm Whether an illness
or anything else Then Allah brings down from
him his sins Just like a tree sheds
its leaves Just like a tree sheds its
leaves And so these illnesses and these hardships
in the dunya They are a means of
purifying us That's what the Prophet ﷺ was
saying here That we have so many sins
And if Allah has chosen a believer of
his A righteous servant of his to go
through that difficulty Then there's a reason behind
it Allah does not want to cause pain
just for the sake of pain or suffering
But rather there's something in it And so
in these final days The Prophet ﷺ He
was still giving each of his wives their
right By spending the nights of each of
them respectful Basically every night the Prophet ﷺ
He had like a schedule where every wife
would get her own night And he would
rotate And he was doing this until these
final days But then as the pain was
getting worse He wasn't able to do that
anymore He wasn't able to get up even
So he sought permission from the wives To
be treated in the home of Aisha And
the way he did this was He began
to ask each wife When he would spend
the night He would say who am I
supposed to be with tomorrow He would go
to the next wife He would say who
am I supposed to be with tomorrow He
did this not to offend them He didn't
want to say When is my night with
Aisha Or do you mind if I leave
you all and go stay with Aisha He
didn't do it like that And this shows
the behaviour and the adab of the Prophet
ﷺ And so they eventually figured it out
They eventually figured out what he was trying
to determine That when is my night with
Aisha And so this is because they knew
that she was the most beloved of the
wives to him And again look at their
sacrifice They could have said no We want
you to stay with us They could have
fought over it But out of respect for
the Prophet ﷺ They gave up their right
And they allowed him to be with Aisha
So after they gave their permission Al-Abbas
and Ali ibn Abi Talib They went and
helped the Prophet ﷺ to get up He
couldn't even get up and walk Each one
picked him up from each side While his
feet were dragging on the ground And they
took him to the house of Aisha Now
the Prophet ﷺ He wanted to go up
And give some last words of advice to
the people But his fever was too high
So he asked for seven jugs of water,
cold water To be brought and poured over
him to lessen the fever So he was
helped into a makeshift tub That belonged to
Hafsa, his wife Hafsa r.a And then
they poured all of this water on him
Until he said enough, that's enough Then the
Prophet ﷺ He got up and he basically
got himself ready to go up Meanwhile, Al
-Abbas r.a Was walking outside And he
passed by some of the Ansar And he
found them crying So he asked them why
they were crying They said, we were remembering
How we would sit with the Prophet ﷺ
How we'd give him company and he would
give us company Showing that they're missing out
on that now And perhaps they're going to
miss out on it forever So when Al
-Abbas went and met the Prophet ﷺ He
told them about what the Ansar had said
So the Prophet ﷺ came out With a
black cloth wrapped around his head And he
got onto the mimbar in the masjid And
this would be the last time he would
get onto his mimbar So he got on
the mimbar, he praised Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala And then he gave his final words
of advice He started by mentioning the virtues
of the Ansar He said, I ask you
to take care of the Ansar As they
are my near companions to whom I would
tell private secrets They have fulfilled their obligations
and rights which were enjoined on them But
now there remains what is for them So
accept the good of the good-doers among
them And excuse the wrong-doers among them
In another narration it says That the Prophet
ﷺ was telling the companions that The Ansar
today are outnumbered Remember, when the Prophet ﷺ
migrated to Medina He migrated with his companions
from Mecca And they were the minority The
Ansar were the majority, they were the people
of Medina But now the tables have turned
And the Ansar have become a minority Especially
after Fath Makkah And after the delegation started
coming to Medina Now at the very end
you have all these different people from all
over Arabia Not just the Muhajirun from Mecca
But different kinds of people who have come
and settled in Medina And the Ansar are
few So the Prophet ﷺ He realized that
Now perhaps people will not care about the
Ansar And they may lose the respect that
they deserve So he was reminding everyone of
their role That these were the people Who
brought me in when I was rejected by
my people These are the people who stood
by me And supported me until the very
end Then the Prophet ﷺ remembered the Shuhada
of Uhud And he made dua for them
And then he ﷺ said I am a
predecessor before you And I am a witness
over you Your appointment with me will be
at the Hawd The pool, the fountain This
is basically where the Prophet ﷺ will meet
his Ummah After the events of the Day
of Judgment And everyone is judged by Allah
Then the believers are going to proceed to
this pool or this fountain Which the Prophet
ﷺ has described in various Ahadith For example
he says whoever drinks from it He's never
going to be thirsty after it And so
the Prophet ﷺ said Your appointment with me
is going to be at the fountain That's
it, I'm leaving the Dunya, I'm separating from
you The next time we meet will be
at my Hawd The Prophet ﷺ said I'm
looking at it while I'm standing right here
And then he said I do not fear
for you The possibility that you will associate
partners with Allah in worship But I fear
for you that you will fight one another
for the Dunya So here the Prophet ﷺ
was telling his companions what he was concerned
about He wasn't concerned that they will go
back to idol worship and shirk But rather
what he was worried about was something else
And that is the Dunya is going to
open up before you very soon in a
couple of years And that's exactly what ended
up happening And then you're going to fight
for the Dunya The narrator of this Hadith,
Uqba ibn Amir He says that was the
last time I saw Rasool Allah ﷺ Then
the Prophet ﷺ said while on the Minbar
He said O people There is a servant
from the servants of Allah Whom Allah has
given him to decide between this Dunya and
what is with Allah Now the majority of
the companions they didn't understand anything from this
They thought one servant from the servants of
Allah It could be anyone Perhaps the Prophet
ﷺ is talking about You know a prophet
of the past or someone from the past
Abu Bakr r.a started crying Because he
understood that the Prophet ﷺ was talking about
himself That you know he's saying O people
there is a servant of the servants of
Allah Whom Allah has given him to decide
between either the Dunya or what is with
Allah So then the Prophet ﷺ said Or
Abu Bakr r.a he said O Messenger
of Allah we will sacrifice ourselves and our
children for you So then the Prophet ﷺ
said slow down And then he said The
one who has been most faithful to me
in his friendship and his wealth is Abu
Bakr If I was to take a Khalil
Khalil is not just any friend But it's
a very very strong intimate friend He said
if I was to take anyone as a
Khalil I would have taken Abu Bakr as
my Khalil But Allah is my Khalil And
then he said But what I do have
for him is his companionship in Islam and
his love He is my companion He is
my friend And I love him And then
the Prophet ﷺ said Every door in the
Masjid should be shut except for that of
Abu Bakr So this was one of the
last wills of the Prophet ﷺ Before his
death he wanted to close all of the
doors Basically the Masjid of the Prophet ﷺ
It was surrounded by homes And these houses
There would be an entrance from the outside
And there would be an entrance from the
Masjid So the Prophet ﷺ was saying that
all the doors should be shut Except for
the door of Abu Bakr And this continued
This door remained open Throughout history until this
very day If you were to go to
Al-Masjid An-Nabawi On the western side
On the western side You could go there
and you could see it It says Bab
Abu Bakr The door of Abu Bakr And
it is one of the main gates Until
this very day that you enter to go
into the Masjid Also look at how much
the Prophet ﷺ cared for his Ummah to
remain guided During these final days One day
he decided to write a detailed document For
the companions For them to follow certain guidelines,
certain instructions So that they don't go astray
after him But then when they got around
him They started to argue Some said The
Prophet ﷺ is ill He is very ill
right now, he can't do this Forget about
it Let him just give his advice verbally
We shouldn't allow him to go through this
difficulty Of writing a document for us And
among them was Umar ﷺ Others, they said
no As long as he wants to write
for us a document Let him write it
for us And so they started to argue
When this happened, the Prophet ﷺ He basically
stopped And he said, I want all of
you to leave He got upset Because it's
not suitable, it's not appropriate For people to
be arguing in the presence of the Prophet
ﷺ So he changed his mind And instead
he gave three pieces of advice The narrator,
he says That I only remember two The
first Expel the Mushrikun from the Arabian Peninsula
Expel the Mushrikun from the Arabian Peninsula Basically
there should not be There should not be
two religions Coexisting in the Arabian Peninsula And
so by now Islam has dominated There should
not be any other religion Competing with Islam
In this particular part of the world And
so this is a Kufr-free zone Right
It doesn't mean that there are not going
to be You know, Kuffar entering this area
Because the second piece of advice So this
was the first The second piece of advice
the Prophet ﷺ said Allow foreign delegates To
come and visit Arabia Meaning even non-Muslims
Just as I have allowed them to do
so So the Prophet ﷺ while he was
in Medina Until the very end He would
receive delegations of Kuffar Some of them would
accept Islam Others did not as we mentioned
You know the Christians of Najran They returned
back to Najran as Christians Right But what
the Prophet ﷺ was saying here Is another
religion cannot remain dominant Right And you know
Only Islam is going to remain dominant In
this particular part of the world Now The
scholars of Islam Differed over the boundaries of
the Arabian Peninsula Some said it is the
Arabian Peninsula As we know it today Which
is you know Pretty much all of Saudi
Arabia All the Gulf countries Yemen, Oman, all
of that Others said no it is just
Hijaz And others said it is just referring
to Mecca and Medina So there is that
You know difference of opinion among the scholars
Now the Prophet ﷺ was also worried about
Us following in the footsteps of Ahlul Kitab
Before us The Jews and the Christians By
making the same mistakes that they made after
their Prophets left And so one of his
last pieces of advice was Do not make
my grave into a place of celebration And
in another narration Do not make my grave
into an idol that is worshipped And in
another narration the Prophet ﷺ said May Allah
curse the Jews and the Christians They turned
the graves of their Prophets Into places of
worship Into Masajid So even in his final
days He was concerned about his Ummah That
you know they don't fall into You know
these grave errors and mistakes That Ahlul Kitab
before us They fell into when their Prophets
left And these are forms of Shirk And
they lead to Shirk Also among his final
words Was what Jabir radiAllahu anhu narrates He
says three days before the Prophet ﷺ passed
away I heard him saying Let none of
you Let none among you to die Except
while having good thoughts of Allah So basically
at the time of death One should not
fall into despair That you know I have
all these sins And you know I'm doomed
Right And so we're supposed to be having
good thoughts of Allah That no Allah is
the most forgiving He is the most merciful
Especially at this time Especially at this time
Also Anas radiAllahu anhu narrates When the moment
of death came for Rasool Allah ﷺ This
is the advice he gave to us As
-salata as-salaa wa ma malakat aimanukum He
said you know stick to your Salah Uphold
the Salah You know establish the Salah And
pray on time etc Emphasizing on the importance
of Salah Again in his final moments He
was saying this Showing the importance of Salah
And fulfill your rights to your slaves Wa
ma malakat aimanukum You know your slaves have
a right over you Your slaves have a
right over you And that is that you
treat them kindly And so the Prophet ﷺ
in his final days He was giving advice
to his ummah that You know there are
people who are weak And you know they're
the downtrodden in society And people take advantage
of them In another narration the Prophet ﷺ
Was saying ittaqullaha fin nisa Fear Allah concerning
women Again the same idea Of not oppressing
those under us And Jabir ﷺ he says
The Prophet ﷺ was repeating these words in
his final moments Aisha ﷺ would take care
of the Prophet ﷺ in those final days
She says that this was the first time
That she was tending to a severely ill
person And she says that the Prophet ﷺ
would usually recite The mu'awwidhatayn Surah al
-Falaq and Surah al-Nas And then he
would blow into his hands And he would
wipe all over his body She says however
he was not able to do that anymore
So she would take his hands She would
recite into his hands Blow into it and
then with his hands She would wipe over
his body Because his hands are more blessed
than hers And Aisha ﷺ One of her
students Says that I have never seen anyone
with so much knowledge She has knowledge not
only of the deen Not only of fiqh,
not only of hadith But she also has
knowledge of medicine So I asked her one
day Where did you learn medicine from?
So she said In those final days of
the Prophet ﷺ There would come certain people
who You know they were experienced in medicine
And they would try to treat the Prophet
ﷺ And so I would learn from what
they were doing One day The brother of
Aisha ﷺ Abdurrahman ibn Abi Bakr He came
to visit And the Prophet ﷺ Saw him
with a miswak And it's mentioned that this
was the final day Of the Prophet ﷺ
The Prophet ﷺ spotted him with a miswak
And he was looking at it So Aisha
ﷺ asked the Prophet ﷺ Do you want
it?
So he said yes So she took it
from Abdurrahman And she put it in her
mouth to soften it To fix it up
and make it ready for the Prophet ﷺ
And then she gave it to him to
use And then the Prophet ﷺ used the
miswak This shows us how much Rasulullah ﷺ
cared for cleanliness And how much he loved
the miswak Even in these difficult moments And
these final moments of his life And Aisha
ﷺ She would take pride in this incident
And she would say that Her saliva was
the last saliva to mix with The saliva
of the Prophet ﷺ What happens after this?
The death of the Prophet ﷺ And the
aftermath of that The reaction to the death
of the Prophet ﷺ And what happens after
that We will cover the remaining of that
next week Insha'Allah We'll just conclude with
some lessons That we learned from what we
covered tonight The first lesson That we see
is That our Prophet ﷺ Was not attached
to the dunya We see this in numerous
examples throughout his life Throughout his life He
showed how he was a person Who was
not interested in the dunya But especially here
at the very end When he was offered
the dunya And its riches And living on
forever until the last day You know, a
choice that If most of us were given
We would choose to stay in the dunya
forever Especially when we're being guaranteed with Jannah
afterwards Right?
But the Prophet ﷺ turned that offer down
Right?
He turned it down in exchange for what?
In exchange for being with Allah Now It's
like He was longing for this moment He
was waiting for this moment And now it's
finally come And now you're offering me to
stay in the dunya?
No, I'm not gonna do that Right?
This was because the Prophet ﷺ He looked
at the dunya according to what it is
And that is that it's insignificant And it's
worthless As it is insignificant and worthless In
the eyes of Allah Right?
You know, the Prophet ﷺ one day He
was walking in the marketplace With the sahaba
And he spotted a skinny dead lamb Or
goat He went up to it, he held
it by its ear And he asked the
companions Who would want this for one dirham?
They said, O Messenger of Allah We would
not want it even if it was for
free While it's dead, it's worthless If it
was alive, it would still be worthless Because
it's skinny and weak What do you want
us to do with it?
So then the Prophet ﷺ said Wallahi Lad
dunya ahwanu AAala Allahi min hadha AAalaykum By
Allah The dunya is more insignificant, more worthless
In the sight of Allah Then this dead
lamb is worthless to you So if you
look at this animal as being worthless in
your eyes Then the dunya, with all of
its riches and everything in it Is more
insignificant, is more worthless In the sight of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala The second lesson
that we learn Why did the Prophet ﷺ
go through so much pain at the end
of his life?
Firstly, pain and suffering and its opposite Comfort
and well-being does not indicate the pleasure
or the displeasure of Allah This is not
the yardstick to measure Is Allah pleased with
someone or is He displeased?
Because unfortunately that's how people look at it
today If you're suffering, then they say this
is because Allah does not like you If
you have everything, all the luxuries of the
dunya, it means Allah loves you Right?
Secondly, the Prophet ﷺ was asked He was
once asked Who among the people is tested
the most, goes through the most hardship?
The Prophet ﷺ said, the Prophets And then
those closest to them Then those closest to
them People are tested according to the level
and the strength of their iman If a
person's iman is strong, then their tests become
even more severe And if their iman is
weak, their tests lighten And then he said,
a person will continue to be afflicted with
hardship Until they walk among the people without
a single sin upon them Again, that same
idea of these tests and these hardships Erasing
our sins, purifying us And so this shows
us that the Prophets of Allah, they suffered
the most in the dunya And here at
the end of the life of the Prophet
ﷺ We shouldn't be wondering why is Allah
doing this to the Prophet ﷺ But rather
it makes sense Because Allah loves them more,
and so He tests them more And this
also lessens their burden This also lessens their
burden on the Day of Judgment And also
it raises their rank Number three Just like
the Prophet ﷺ began his da'wah With
concern for his ummah and for his people
He also ended it with a similar concern
Just like he started his mission Rushing to
warn the people Remember, way back in the
beginning When Allah told him وَأَنذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الْأَقْرَبِينَ
And now stand up and warn your relatives
Because when the first ayat came down In
the cave of Hira For a period of
time The da'wah was secret But then
there was a time when Allah told him
to now make the da'wah public What
was the first thing the Prophet ﷺ did?
He went straight to Mount Safa He climbed
it And then he started shouting to the
various leaders of Quraysh to come He had
a very very important announcement to make And
then they came And then he told them
What if I was to tell you that
there is an army behind this mountain ready
to attack you Would you believe me or
not?
They said, we have never known you to
lie Of course we would believe you So
then he said Then I am warning you
of a severe punishment that awaits you If
you don't believe And this was when Abu
Lahab said his words May your hands Or
may you be May you perish May you
perish for the rest of your day Is
this why you gathered us?
And then Allah revealed Surah Al-Masad May
the hands of Abu Lahab perish The point
here is That is how the Prophet ﷺ
started his da'wah With concern He wasn't
passive Right?
He didn't compromise He didn't say, well we
could go easy You know, let's take it
easy No From the very beginning until the
very end Here when he is going through
a very difficult time At the very end
He didn't make that an excuse And say,
I am going through difficulty Let me just
relax No He got up Went to the
masjid And started giving his last pieces of
advice Why?
Because he cared for his ummah This was
the concern he had for them Right?
He cared for them And that's why Allah
describes him لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ A
messenger has come to you from yourselves عَزِيزٌ
عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُمْ He is concerned about your
suffering حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُمْ And he is anxious for
your well-being In the dunya and the
akhira بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَؤُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ And he is gracious
and merciful to the believers Finally, we see
the loyalty of the Prophet ﷺ The loyalty
that he showed to his companions For his
companions Notice how in these final days The
Prophet ﷺ was paying respects to Those who
served him First he went to Baqi' He
made dua and he asked Allah to forgive
them Then he mentioned the Ansar And then
he mentioned the shuhada of Uhud Who died
in Uhud, making dua for them These were
the people who gave their lives For the
Prophet ﷺ and for the deen of Allah
And now at the end of his life
He was showing his respects to them And
not forgetting them And not forgetting about their
sacrifices This basically shows you how loyal a
person is Just like the Prophet ﷺ was
loyal To his wife Khadija r.a Years
after she passed away Why did he used
to remember her so much?
Aisha r.a says There is no one
among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ That
I had more jealousy for than Khadija Even
though I had never seen her She never
saw her Aisha r.a was very young
She was an infant When Khadija r.a
passed away Why was she so jealous of
her?
Because the Prophet ﷺ used to mention her
so much Remembering her so much Why did
the Prophet ﷺ remember her so much?
Because she was there when he needed her
She supported him when his people rejected him
She was the first to believe in him
She was that source of comfort for him
When he used to come home After facing
rejection and objection from his people And so
look at how loyal the Prophet ﷺ was
To those who supported him Those who sacrificed
for him And so now in his final
days He is remembering them, making dua for
them We'll continue next week inshaAllah And next
week will be our last lesson Which we
will conclude the seerah of the Prophet ﷺ
with Subhanak Allahumma wa bihamdik Ashhadu an la
