Say, if you are the Lord of the
Merciful and His Son, then I am the
first of the servants.
Glory be to the Lord of the heavens
and the earth, Lord of the Throne, above
what they ascribe.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
First and foremost, As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi
wa barakatuh.
Welcome, brothers and sisters.
Jazakumullahu khair for coming to this event where
we are honoured to have with us our
guest, our sheikh, Sheikh Jamal Abdel Nasser, Hafizahullahu
wa ra'a.
And, of course, the sheikh, as we say
in Arabic, is ghaniyun ani ta'rif.
You know, needs no introduction.
Very well known and, you know, his basma,
as we say in Arabic, his footprint in
terms of da'wah and teaching is one
that is known.
We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to
bless him and also put these efforts of
his in his scale of good deeds.
Ameen.
And so, without further ado, I'm not going
to keep him too long.
I'm sure you want to hear from the
sheikh.
So, I'll hand it over to the sheikh.
So, let's hear from the sheikh.
Ameen.
Ahlika wa khassatika ya rabbil alameen.
Insha'Allah ta'ala, we are going to
begin straight away, bi-idhnillahi ta'ala.
And tonight, we are going to be studying
Surat al-Zukhruf.
Surat al-Zukhruf is one of the seven
surahs that begin with Hameem.
And the scholars, they call these seven surahs
Hawameem.
Hawameem, with a wow in the middle.
So, the first surah, in terms of chronological
order, it is Surat al-Ghafir.
That's number one.
And then you have Surat al-Fussilat.
And then you have Surat al-Shura.
And then you have this surah, Surat al
-Zukhruf.
Then you have Surat al-Dukhan.
That's number five.
And then you have Surat al-Jathiyah, number
six.
And then you have Surat al-Ahqaf.
And all seven surahs, in English, they are
Meccan surahs.
All of them.
So, they were revealed in the beginning of
Al-Islam.
Or the beginning of the Prophet ﷺ's Ba
'ithah.
Or the first 13 years.
Or pre-Hijrah.
Call it as you wish.
These surahs were revealed in that period of
time.
As for Surat al-Zukhruf, then it speaks
about a number of themes.
From them is Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Who He is.
What He does.
And how Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala should
be worshipped.
It also speaks about the realities of this
world.
And what this world leads to.
It speaks about the realities of the Hereafter.
And what that leads to.
It also speaks about companionship towards the end
of the surah.
And it speaks a great deal about the
people of Iman.
And the people of disbelief.
And the abode of each one.
And inshallah ta'ala we are just going
to have a halaqah.
Whereby we try to recite the book of
Allah.
Understand the book of Allah.
And purify ourselves.
Obviously Allah will purify us.
Through the book of Allah.
And why did I say those three things?
Because this is what the Prophet ﷺ was
sent out for.
Allah mentions this in the Qur'an.
One of many ayat.
We have sent you out O Muhammad.
In order for you to recite the Qur
'an upon them.
From the objective of the Qur'an's revelation.
Is that the people should hear it.
Like Allah says,
Just hearing the Qur'an.
This is something which is great.
From the objectives of the Qur'an coming
down.
But it doesn't end there, right?
Allah says, when you read upon them, يَتُلُوَ
You'll be purified.
When you listen to the Qur'an, Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala will purify you.
Your iman will rise.
And any type of disease that you may
have in your heart, Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala through His fadl and grace, will remove
this from you.
He will then actually teach
you the Qur'an.
And this is from the greatest objectives of
the Qur'an al-Kareem.
We understand what Allah's message to us is.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala sent down this
book in order for it to be adhered
to.
In order for its guidance to be followed.
we hope inshaAllah ta'ala, we attain some
of these virtues tonight inshaAllah.
And it's important that we all have an
intention.
And if we have an intention, we refresh
our intention.
And you will be given in accordance to
what you intend.
Like our religion mentions.
It's not going to be an in-depth
tafsir.
That's not what we're here to do.
But we will talk about some of the
ayat inshaAllah ta'ala.
And we will also recite inshaAllah.
Now, just for the record, as a disclaimer,
what we will do is the following.
In the beginning, we're going to read together
collectively.
Now, those who are here and maybe some
who may be watching us may think, is
that allowed?
Can we do this type of dhikr like
this?
And generally, the answer will probably be no.
But when you are studying, the case is
different.
And sometimes what is allowed in teaching and
studying is different to what is generally allowed
or not allowed.
Because imagine the amount of people here.
How am I going to be able to
listen to every single person?
And the Prophet ﷺ, he said, مَجْتَمَعَ قَوْمٌ
No group gather in one of the houses
of Allah reciting the Qur'an.
So generally speaking, dhikr shouldn't be done together
just for the sake of doing it.
But when you are studying, when you are
learning, this is different.
So it's good to make that disclaimer because
some people may not be aware of this
and therefore there may be i'tirad later.
But it's good to now know that okay,
now we understand this is a bit different.
And then after this inshaAllah ta'ala, whoever
wants to recite and we will listen to
them inshaAllah, they can do so as well.
And any mistakes along the way, we will
try to highlight them as best as possible.
So I'm sure all of you have your
mushafs.
You all have masahif, right?
And we mentioned that it's better to have
a mushaf, a physical copy of the mushaf.
What's in your phone is an application.
That's not Qur'an.
That's called a mobile phone.
So pick up the book of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
If you don't have a mushaf yet, get
one inshaAllah.
We'll give you maybe another 30 seconds or
so and then we'll get started inshaAllah ta
'ala.
Okay, we'll get started inshaAllah.
And I've changed my mind.
What we're going to do is I'm going
to recite and you're going to read after
me inshaAllah.
That way, we're all in agreement.
That 30 seconds I was making a mental
istikhara.
Alhamdulillah, the answer came out, no, we're not
going to do this.
So we'll read inshaAllah, you listen, and then
after you recite after me inshaAllah.
And that's okay according to everybody.
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed
Satan In the name of Allah, the Beneficent,
the Merciful Ha Meem So
I heard somebody around here Bat-shan, bat
-shan, bat-shan, bat-shan Fa ahlakna ashadda
minhum bat-shan wa ma da mathalu al
-awwalin fa
nazzala minassama'i maa'an biqadarin fa ansharnaa
bihee baldatan mayta kadhalika tukhrajoon
wa alladhee khalaqa al-azwaja kullaha wa ja
'ala lakum minalfulki wal-an'aami maa tarkaboon
litastahu ala dhuhurihi thumma tazkuru ni'mata rabbikum idha
istawaitum alayhi wa taqoolu wa taqoolu
subahana allathee sakhkhar lanaa hadhaa wa maa kunnaa
lahoo muqrineen wa innaa
ilaa rabbinaa lamunqaliboon so
this is surat az-zukhruf and az-zukhruf
it means gold or ornaments of gold this
is the name of the surah and we
will explore later on why this surah or
the relevance of the name of the surah
and the content of the surah the ayat
mention about this term az-zukhruf will be
coming inshallah ta'ala so we will make
a connection between the name of the surah
and those ayat but these surah that begin
with these letters there are 29 surah in
the quran that begin with letters asma'ul
huruf who is the hafidh here?
one, two, three ok, i am sure there
are many more that are hiding in the
crowd so inshallah ta'ala we will count
together the surah in the quran in order
that begin with these letters so the first
surah will be what?
not al-fatihah?
al-fatihah doesn't start with this right?
al-baqarah, and then?
al-imran, and then?
al-araaf, and then?
yunus, and then?
hud, and then?
yusuf, and then?
al-ra'ad, and then?
ibrahim, and then?
al-hijr, and then?
maryam how many do we have there?
ten after maryam?
taha, right under it, and then?
no, you skipped big time you skipped a
lot, not even a few so we're on
taha, that's eleven he's saying al-shu'ara
maryam, right after that no?
did we say maryam?
you guys are confused already we said maryam,
maryam was number ten taha was number?
eleven number twelve is?
al-shu'ara, and then?
al-naml, and then?
al-qasas those three are called tawaseen like
the seven are called hawameen they're called?
which two start the same?
al-shu'ara, and?
al-qasas what's the difference?
al-naml what is the difference?
tawaseen only so how many do we have
now?
fourteen and we've reached which surah?
al-qasas, then?
al-ankabut, number fifteen, and then?
al-rum, number sixteen, and then?
luqman, number seventeen, as-sajda?
eighteen, then?
and then?
now your yaseen comes yaseen now, that is
number?
nineteen, and then?
saad, twenty then what happens?
we get to the?
hawameen, how many of them?
seven, that brings us to twenty?
seven, then what's left?
qaf an-nun aa, saad no, but saad's
before, that means you guys made a mistake
saad's before hawameen and you guys are making
too many mistakes we mentioned we mentioned saad
and earlier you guys said mariam and we
mentioned mariam, what's happening?
make tawbah so we mentioned saad already then
we added the seven hawameen that brings us
to twenty-seven then we have left?
qaf an-nun qaf an-nun brings us
to twenty-nine so like I said, twenty
-nine surahs start like this now these twenty
-nine surahs the scholars of tafsir in tafsir
they say, allahu a'alamu bimuradihi what does
alif laam meem mean?
allahu a'alamu bimuradihi Allah knows the object
that's what tafsir actually means by the way
tafsir means bayanul ma'ana alladhi aradahu allahu
bikalamihi to make clear what Allah intended by
his speech in tafsir, nobody can make up
their own tafsir I think that this is
what az-zukhruf should mean but it's not
about what you think it's not your Qur
'an it's Allah's Qur'an Allah revealed it
for a reason and Allah knows best so
these twenty-nine surahs, only Allah knows some
people have tried but the reality, the ulama
they say, Allah knows what's interesting though is
all of them, pretty much directly after them,
the Qur'an is mentioned alif laam meem
al-baqarah dhalika al-kitabu la rayba feeh
yaaseen wal-Qur'anil hakeem saad wal-Qur
'ani dhul-dhikr haa-meem wal-kitabi al
-mubeen haa-meem tanzeerul-kitabi minallahi al-aziz
al-hakeem haa-meem tanzeerul-kitabi minallahi al
-aziz al-alim like ghafir for example that's
how they are the Qur'an is always
mentioned so here Allah jalla wa ala began
like this as well haa-meem wal-kitabi
al-mubeen he's referencing his Qur'an then
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he said wa
innahu fee ummi al-kitabi ladayna la'aliyyun
hakeem that's obviously not the next ayah the
next ayah is inna ja'alnaahu Qur'anan
arabiyan la'allakum ta'qilun and then he
said wa innahu fee ummi al-kitabi ladayna
la'aliyyun hakeem this same Qur'an that
you have today in your hands a lot
of us we don't even know how this
Qur'an reached us we came in the
21st century and we came into this world
and the masajids were built and the masahif
were printed and everything was on the shelves
and we didn't really do much, we didn't
contribute much but if you guys were just
to study how this mushaf reached you today
maybe another time inshallah when we come and
to study the tarikh of the mushaf because
at the time of the Prophet ﷺ what
you have in your hands didn't exist not
even at the time of the Prophet ﷺ
even after the time of the Prophet ﷺ
it didn't exist a lot later it came
about so for a person to study this
how did the mushaf, the written form I'm
talking about how did it come into existence
but Allah jalla wa'ala is telling us
here like you have this this book is
also preserved with Allah
لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ in the preserved tablet so
this is surat az-zukhruf this is from
the beginning verses another part of this surah
that we recited now that's very interesting for
us to know is a statement of Allah
so when you look at this mushaf that
a lot of you have the first ayah
of that page on the left hand side
I think it's ayah 11 right وَالَّذِي نَزَّلَ
Allah is the one who sent down from
the sky water so water here from the
sky means rain Allah sent it down بِقَدَرٍ
gradually so what did this water do فَأَنشَرْنَا
بِهِ بَلْدَةً مَيْتًا it gave life to a
dead land then what did Allah say after
that كَذَٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُونَ you'll be resurrected like that
يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ the same way life came to
the dead land life will come back to
you once you die and pass away and
the Qur'an does this a lot Allah
will tell us of something that we can
see in order for us to believe something
that is from the unseen and from the
most beautiful example in the Qur'an is
in the beginning of surat al ra'd بِسْمِ
Allah is the one who
raised the skies up in the beginning Allah
mentions in the Qur'an surat al anbiya
that the skies and the earth they were
attached فَفَتَقْنَاهُمَا we separated them and so the
sky went up the earth remained down Allah
said I raised the sky up الله الَّذِي
رَفَعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا without pillars that
you see some of the scholars they say
without pillars that you see means without pillars
that you see meaning you can't see the
pillars another scholar they say without pillars that
you can't see meaning there could be pillars
but you just don't see them whichever the
case did we see that happening that process
no but do we see the sky above
us now we see that right so this
first part you see it for yourself you
see the skies above and you see there
are no pillars you don't see pillars so
there's something that you can see then Allah
says ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْعَرْشِ and then Allah
rose above his throne you see he mentions
something that you can see I can see
the sky above then Allah rose above his
throne I can't see that right now then
Allah says something that you can see again
sun and the moon the day and the
night each one has its term each one
has its period it comes out it goes
the next one comes it goes its shift
basis you see this every single day again
he's mentioning something you can see that's tangible
Allah
He shows you these ayat in order
for you to believe in the biggest ayah
that's waiting which is the judgment day the
standing before him that someone may say I
don't see that at all I don't think
that's going to happen I haven't seen anyone
that's been there I just see people dying
but I don't know about that and the
shaytan comes to you with the waswas and
all of this and he's ruining your iman
because it's part of iman to believe in
يوم الأخر so Allah says all of this,
we're showing it to you so then you
believe in that you see the tangible things
before you in order for you to believe
in the things you cannot see so if
shaytan ever comes to you this is the
lesson over here and says I'm not really
sure about judgment day and standing before Allah
and the courtyard of Allah and malaika and
squirrels return the question back to the shaytan
say you explain to me right now how
the sky is and bring it down if
you can no, the same way Allah did
this and no one saw that and no
one can do it no one can reject
this and no one can reject this too
but you are a servant of Allah you
are an abd and an abd doesn't need
to have the answers to everything rather an
abd surrenders and submits
I have submitted
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala if you
had the answers to everything you won't be
in a test in this world because you
know the answers of everything some things will
be shared to you some things will be
kept from you to complete the test upon
you and to see if you are going
to believe in everything Allah says because you
have answers to some things other things you
don't other things it's simply iman here the
believer should remember this all of the time
it's not like Allah left me without any
answers but some things Allah has kept the
wisdom to himself there is wisdom but he
kept it to himself to see who's going
to believe and who's not going to believe
and this is beautiful when you study the
Quran al-karim like this and these ayat
you connect with them forever now you say
subhanallah look at all of those connections that
Allah is making it's very important inshallah for
us to know this so this is a
few reflections from the beginning and now we
will begin with the individual recitation so who
is volunteering?
ok our brother here ar
-raheem ha-meem no no where we left
off from whilst he is getting it out
as a side point maybe turn your one
off the mic the ayah just before this
is it ayah 15 or 14?
the one before yeah it's 14 this is
authentically narrated from the prophet that you make
as a dua when you are on safar
most of you know it this is a
dua that you should make and is authentically
narrated from the prophet yeah surah
surah surah surah
surah surah surah surah surah surah surah surah
surah surah surah surah
surah surah surah surah
surah surah surah surah surah surah so i
want you to read this ayah in one
nafas one breath you may not get there
but i will tell you now you definitely
won't die don't worry you won't pass out
that won't happen inshallah sit straight as well
sit straight that will help you and then
take a deep breath and what you need
to do and this is what the qurra
do So, when you're reading it, release the
breath as you're reading, don't release it all
in the first two words, otherwise you'll be
out of breath, no.
So, when you're reading it, release the breath
as you're reading, don't release it all in
the
first two words, otherwise you'll be out of
breath, no.
So, when
you're reading it, release the breath as you're
reading, don't release it all in the
first two words, otherwise you'll be out of
breath, no.
Allah Azzawajal introduces Ibrahim Al-Khalil Alayhi Salaam
over here, the great prophet.
And he's not only a great prophet, but
he is the greatest man after the Prophet
Muhammad salallahu alayhi wasalam.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala chose Ibrahim and
selected him to be his ally, to be
closer to him than many other people.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala commanded everyone,
including the Prophet Muhammad salallahu alayhi wasalam, to
follow the example of Ibrahim.
Thumma awhayna ilayka an ittabi'u millata Ibrahima
hanifa.
To follow the path of Ibrahim.
Ibrahim, Allah called him Hanif, he was a
man of monotheism.
Ibrahim was an imam, he was a leader.
Ibrahim Alayhi Salaam, he was qanit, he was
devout to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, he
always worshipped Allah.
And he submitted to Allah.
Wherever it came from Allah azza wa jal,
he would accept it, and he would follow
it, and he would not break any of
the commandments of Allah.
atamma hunna.
He's known as Abu Al-Anbiya, the father
of all prophets.
And he's also considered by a number of
the scholars as the third father for all
of mankind.
So they would say Adam Alayhi Salaam is
the father of all of mankind.
Then they would say Nuh Alayhi Salaam is
the second father.
If you study this and research this, you
will see the ulama say this.
And they will say Ibrahim is the third.
And even when we're making dua from the
supplications of the morning and the evening, we
mention Ibrahim Alayhi Salaam, right?
Who can tell us?
Asbahna wa asbahal mulku, and then?
No, you can't do that.
You can't just say Ibrahim and just plug
it in.
Which part is Ibrahim?
Asbahna ala one person.
Not like that.
You're right.
I know where you're taking it, but it's
not like that.
Asbahna ala fitrat al-islam, wa ala kalimat
al-ikhlas, wa ala deen al-nabiyyina Muhammad
salallahu alayhi wa sallam, wa ala millati abina
-mushrikeen.
Authentically attributed to the Prophet ﷺ.
This is Ibrahim.
He's got even a surah that's named after
him.
Now over here Allah speaks to us about
how he dealt with his people, how he
dealt with his community, his own father as
well.
But he left them with a statement, and
this is the greatest statement ever.
This is kalimat al-ikhlas.
This is kalimat al-taqwa.
The Qur'an calls it all of this.
And this statement is what?
La ilaha illallah.
The Prophet ﷺ, when he sent out Mu
'adh and the other sahaba to call people,
to call people to Allah, what did he
say?
Fal yakun awwala maa tadu'uhum ilayh, la
ilaha illallah.
And it's interesting because that's what Allah sent
the Prophets to do.
Wa laqad ba'atana fi kulli ummati ar
-rasoolan, an i'budullaha wa ijtani butta'ud.
So the disciples and the companions of the
Prophets are doing the same thing, which shows
in turn every single fard of the ummah
should do the same thing.
And when you're calling people to Allah, you
call people to la ilaha illallah.
The Prophet ﷺ said this statement, anybody who
lives by it and believes in it, sincerely
will enter, will enter into Jannah.
All of us have this in our lives,
but it's about how much you follow it,
and how much you believe in it sincerely,
and how much of it actually resonates within
you.
And if you live by it like this,
then inshallah ta'ala all eight doors of
Jannah will open up for you.
And may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala open
up all the doors of Jannah for us.
You can go next inshallah.
So you don't all have to say a
'udhu billahi minash shaytanir rajim.
According to all of the scholars, a'udhu
billahi minash shaytanir rajim is not from the
Qur'an.
Is it an ayah, is it from the
Qur'an?
No.
Did we read it before?
Yeah.
Two different things.
It's not an ayah.
It's not even written.
Have you ever seen a surah that has
a, no.
But Allah says, if you have read the
Qur'an, then be ready.
However, the ulama say, when you're reading like
this, then because a'udhu billahi minash shaytanir
rajim is not from the Qur'an, let
us not bring it between the Qur'an
because it will cut off the Qur'an.
What rather you read it at the beginning
and that's it.
So we read it at the beginning, khalas,
no more inshallah.
Alhamdulillah.
Yes.
Does anybody have a translation as well?
Anybody?
You have it on your phone?
Okay.
Can you read it for us inshallah?
From ayah 32 until ayah 35.
The English.
Sorry?
The English.
The English, yeah.
English language.
I thought you said Danish.
I don't know why English, Danish.
That's why I said sorry so many times.
Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord?
It is we who have appointed among them
their livelihood in the life of this world
and have raised some of them above others
in degrees of rank.
Okay, so this is interesting.
We're going to speak about it as we
go along inshallah.
Is it they who distributed your Lord's mercy?
We alone, meaning Allah, speaking about Himself, have
distributed their very livelihood among them in this
worldly life and raised some of them in
rank above others.
We look at people sometimes and we see
that they're doing better than us financially.
They're doing better than us in their careers
and in their jobs.
And that just may be what you perceive.
If you think people are doing better than
you because they have a bit more cash,
you don't know the stresses that come with
this.
You don't know the challenges that come with
this.
You don't know that potentially this person is
breaching many of the guidelines of the Sharia
with his money.
Do you know that?
No.
You're just looking at the apparent.
And so you may have a level of
envy towards them, but first and foremost, this
person didn't give their finances to themselves.
Allah distributes this.
So instead of having hasad or envy or
jealousy towards them, ask Allah to provide for
you and then ask Allah to bless it
for you.
And these two things are important.
Never look at somebody who has money with
an eye of scorning or jealousy and then
after decide that you want this because you
don't know how this money is going to
be in your life.
It could be that you are better off
without it.
So ask Allah, that's the first lesson we
take.
Don't have jealousy and envy towards them.
Ask Allah and then don't just ask Allah
for money.
This is wrong.
Ask Allah for finances and ask Allah to
bless it for you, so you could do
the right things with it.
This is the first lesson that we take
now.
They may make use of one another for
service.
The mercy of your Lord is better than
whatever they accumulate.
And if it were not that the people
would become one community of disbelievers, we would
have made for those who disbelieve in the
most merciful, for their houses, ceilings and stairways
of silver upon which to mount.
And for their houses, doors and couches of
silver upon which to recline.
And gold ornament.
But all that is not but the enjoyment
of worldly life.
And the hereafter with your Lord is for
the righteous.
So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala now has
mentioned the word Zuhruf.
It has been mentioned here.
And Zuhruf is ornaments of gold.
And this whole context Allah is speaking about,
disbelievers.
And Allah jalla wa ala tells us that
we haven't given this to them except as
a fleeting enjoyment of this world.
There is a mindset shift over here.
Instead of, the first thing was, don't have
hasad, ask Allah.
Ask Allah to give you finances and ask
Allah to bless you in your finances.
But now you are being told, that's not
the real thing for the Muslim that they
should be seeking in terms of pleasure and
happiness.
Because you are not going to find it
there.
The Prophet ﷺ, this is gold, right?
Zuhruf.
He says, if you were to give the
son of Adam a valley of gold, he
would want a second one.
If you give him a second one, of
course he wants a third one as well.
And nothing will fill his mouth except what?
Turab.
It has no end.
Ta'isa abdu al-dinari wa abdu al
-dirhami wa abdu al-khamisa.
In u'ati ya radiya wa in lam
yu'ata sakhit.
When he is given, he is happy.
When he is not given, he is upset.
He is angry, agitated, distressed.
Money makes you like this.
So money is actually controlling you if you
are like this.
And it's fleeting.
So Allah Jalla wa Ala is telling us,
this is not a good thing.
I actually looked into the Qur'an.
And I found the places where Allah mentions
the distractions and the things that divert us
from His path.
All the ayat.
Money is the first one that He mentions.
fitna.
Ayahsabuna anlama numidduhu bihi min maalin wabaneen.
He mentions maal all of the time.
Because some people are not interested in baneen.
Some people don't really want children, right?
One time, one person said, I don't want
children.
Astaghfirullah, why are you saying that?
It's a big responsibility and stuff.
What kind of, where are you living?
The soul of the family and the house
is children.
No, I don't want it.
So how are you going to live?
Alone with cats and stuff?
No, no, what I am going to do,
I'm going to borrow my older brother's children.
Borrow, he said.
Borrow, and when I'm done with them, just
drop them back home.
Anytime I desire to have children in my
company, my nieces and nephews are here, and
my brother will be happy because I'm going
to babysit, take them away, and when I'm
tired and they give me a headache, send
them back.
Why do I need my own?
Astaghfirullah, I love you.
People have this type of mindset.
Why am I mentioning this?
It's not to just make you giggle.
It is because genuinely a lot of people
don't want that.
For whatever reason, even if it's a wrong
reason.
But money, everyone wants it.
So Allah Jalla wa'ala mentioned this.
Then He says, after all of this, this
is just a fleeting enjoyment for those who
we have given this world to.
You are
a person of Islam and Iman.
You are a Muslim, right?
The Akhira is for you.
And notice here, the beauty that I wanted
to mention about Surat Az-Zukhruf is, don't
worry about the gold of this world, you'll
be given the gold of the next life.
Focus on that one.
That one is everlasting.
That one is full of barakah.
That one has no hasad.
Everything that this one has, that one doesn't
have.
Imagine that.
This one, there's hasad.
There's envy.
There could be adam al-barakah.
There's no blessings attached to it.
There's hisab waiting for you.
You're gonna be asked, the Prophet ﷺ said,
when you're resurrected on the Day of Resurrection,
you won't move from your place except you
answer four questions.
Some of the narrations, five questions.
One of them is,
Every penny.
Every single one.
You may have forgotten a lot of those
pennies.
Every single penny.
How did it come in?
Every single penny, how did it go out?
Things you overlooked, you've forgotten about, you took
it lightly, you weren't interested.
People put it in your pocket.
It was a business opportunity, investment.
Ta'ib, you'll be asked by Allah.
And then every single amount, how you spend
it, you'll be asked as well.
But Qiyamah and Jannah, Paradise, oh, you just
take it.
Just take it and you enjoy it.
And it's full of khair.
And every single person has their own kingdom.
No one is faqeer over there.
So no one's gonna look towards you and
say, oh, look what he has.
Allah says in the Quran, in this surah,
Everything that the soul can desire and
everything that brings peace and coolness to the
eyes will be found in Paradise.
So this is a shift.
This is the middle of the surah and
this is the shift in the middle of
the surah.
The zukhruf of this world, don't focus on
it too much.
The zukhruf of the next life, if you're
given it, then you'll be given the zukhruf
of this world as well.
And in a way that benefits you.
Now, who's next?
Inshallah.
Okay, over here.
You haven't read yet?
You haven't read?
You just did the translation.
You read.
Okay, you can read inshallah.
With
a commandment that if we were to follow,
this would rectify all of our worldly affairs,
and this would rectify all of our hereafter
affairs.
Hold firmly
on to that which has been revealed upon
you, the Qur'an al-Kareem.
Indeed, verily,
exclusively, this Qur'an is a ذِكْرٌ لَكَ
It's an honor for you.
Why am I holding on to the Qur
'an?
It's honor.
That means if I don't hold on to
the Qur'an, or I let it go,
that means I don't have honor.
And the more I hold on to it,
the more I have honor as well.
So a person who's engaging with the Qur
'an on a part-time basis, your honor
is part-time basis.
The person who engages with the Qur'an,
and engages with it greatly, his honor is
higher.
And you see this within the ummah.
You see, you had recently, which Shaykh was
there again?
Shaykh Ahmad Al-Nufais, right?
And many others for you, I'm just mentioning
as an example.
I noticed, I think he was sitting here
as well.
And anyone who comes, you sign the ummah.
Generally speaking, Allah has placed a level of
qabool in their hearts, and respect towards the
people who have the Qur'an.
So Allah is saying, you should be like
that as well.
The whole ummah should be like this.
It's an honor
for you, O Muhammad, and it's an honor
for your ummah.
Every single person.
Then Allah says, وَسَوْفَ تُسْأَلُونَ SubhanAllah, we will
be asked about this Qur'an Yawmul Qiyamah.
Allah will question us.
And a question requires answers.
And if you don't have the answers, then
your limbs will testify against you.
If you're unable to utter from your mouth,
your hands and your feet and your body
and everything will start speaking.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala protect us.
But I have a couple of advices.
And if you follow these advices, I can
guarantee that it will help you.
I won't guarantee something impractical and say, Oh,
you're going to become a hafidh of Qur
'an in two weeks or I won't say
this.
But it will definitely help you, and you
will find that there's change coming.
So write it down inshaAllah.
The first one.
It is that we should all have hubb
for the Qur'an, hubb.
Some of these advices may sound like they're
just normal advices or if you heard them
before.
But I'm telling you, just follow the system
that I'm giving.
Hubb.
Hubb means a level of passion and love
towards the Qur'an.
Because when you don't love something or you
don't love it enough, you're not going to
be able to engage with it.
Look at the people you engage with every
day.
Look at the things you engage with every
single day.
Look at where you go and look at
who you speak with and look at what
you do.
If you didn't like those things, you wouldn't
do it.
Why do you do it?
Because you love it.
When you love something, you will engage with
it.
And every Muslim has to love the Qur
'an.
There has to be a minimum level of
love towards the Qur'an.
Otherwise, this can lead the person outside of
the fold of Islam.
So we're not talking about that minimum level.
We're talking about now a higher, higher level
that pushes you to strive and pushes you
to come closer to the Qur'an.
So the first one is hubb.
Okay, so I just noticed this brother over
here.
What's your name?
Yusuf.
Yeah.
Pakistan or Afghanistan?
Bangladesh?
Allah Akbar.
He's from Afghan.
MashaAllah.
He's an Afghan Pakistani.
Okay, it's better to pick up the Mus
'haf from the floor.
Anyone else who may have the Mus'haf
on the floor, it's better to not put
the Mus'haf on the floor.
The first one was hubb.
The second one was al-qurb.
Hubb.
The second one al-qurb.
Al-qurb means to come close to the
Qur'an.
What does this mean?
This means try to come close to the
Qur'an as much as possible from any
angle.
What I'm telling you is gold.
It's zuhruf.
As much as possible and from any angle
possible.
Try the angle of tilawah.
Try the angle of qiyam al-lil.
Try the angle of memorization.
Try the angle of faham.
Try the angle of just beautifying yourself with
the Qur'an because the Qur'an beautifies
us.
Try, try, try, try.
Try to come to a halaqa.
Try to learn.
Try to al-qurb.
Try to come near the Qur'an as
much as possible and from any angle possible.
You don't know the one that Allah is
going to open up for you.
And the more angles you approach the Qur
'an from, the more inshaAllah ta'ala you'll
benefit from it and become from his companions
inshaAllah.
The last one.
Accountability.
Al-accountability.
Ihtisab.
Ihtisab al-ajr.
But also for you to do muhasaba.
Accountability.
So I'm going to get reward.
Observe the reward.
Ihtisab.
I'm going to get reward.
And also muhasaba.
Muhasaba meaning accountable.
I said I was going to memorize one
page this weekend.
I say weekend because we're on weekend.
Did I do that?
Okay, I didn't do it.
Okay, you only have one more day left
tomorrow.
Because if you don't do this level of
accountability, no one's going to do it for
you.
And if you let yourself go, then one
weekend will turn into two, will turn into
months, will turn into years, and then you
just go further.
Instead of coming nearer, you come further.
So if you love the Qur'an, it's
in those steps because one is an action
of the heart.
Your heart.
How your heart feels about the Qur'an.
Hubb.
Then qurb.
Come close to the Qur'an.
I'm trying this, I'm trying this, I'm trying
this.
Then accountability.
And also observing the reward.
I have to remind myself because sometimes the
going gets tough.
Things happen in life and distractions and I
have to go here and children pick them
up from school and my job, I lost
my job, etc.
But here you tell yourself that al-inshigal
bil-Qur'an, being busy with the Qur
'an, it is afdalu shay'in.
It is the greatest thing.
There is nothing like it.
And you have, Allah has given many blessings
to Bani Adam.
Countless.
wa in ta'uddu ni'mata Allahi, la tu
'hsuha.
You can't count them.
But this one stands to be the greatest.
The Qur'an that He sent down.
So you observe the reward, al-ihtisab.
And you also have muhasaba.
Accountability.
So here, when you have that level of
love in your heart, when you do the
actions on your limbs, and when you hold
yourself to account, then insha'Allah ta'ala
there will be nothing stopping you.
And I found, from my experience, people go
wrong in one or more of these areas.
Either from their heart there is not a
lot of drive, or there is drive but
there is no action.
Or there is action here and there because
there is no accountability.
But if they were to tick all those
boxes, they will find that there is gradual
progress.
We are going in the right direction.
We will do questions right at the end
insha'Allah.
Keep your questions and we will do it
at the end.
Let us continue insha'Allah ta'ala and
finish off the surah.
Jazakallahu khairan.
So you can pass it to your neighbor.
Jazakallahu khair.
Just pronounce the laam clearer.
I didn't hear it properly.
Okay, let's
look at this word.
Turn your mic off.
We can see the word وَمَلَئِهِ What
do you notice about this word?
The additional letter here is what?
تَزَيَّاء None of the قُرَّاءَ الْعَشَرَة The ten
imams who were only allowed to read the
Quran in one of their ways
We can't read the
Quran in any way other than those ten
ways.
The editing will find out how to fix
that later.
None of them read وَمَلَئِهِ وَمَلَئِهِ وَمَلَئِهِ As
you can see in the Muzhaf.
But this is from the gems of the
Quran that a lot of people don't uncover
or share or teach or maybe even know.
There are things in the Quran that are
read but not written.
And there are things in the Quran that
are written but not read.
There are things in the Quran that are
not read nor written, they are just heard.
There are things in the Quran that are
not read nor heard, they are just observed.
This is one
of them.
Now if you want to write down the
Quran you're teaching children for example or you
want to write down a Muzhaf or you
want to write down this ayah.
You're not allowed to write it down except
the way you see it which is with
a yaa.
And likewise you're not allowed to ever read
that yaa.
Imagine.
You can't read that yaa but you have
to write down that yaa.
Allahu Akbar.
But you say but I'm not reading that.
Reading is one thing, writing is something else.
And this is the book of Allah.
The book of Allah is
An ocean with no shore.
And this is another science from the sciences
of the Quran.
The knowledge of how the
companions they wrote the Quran al-Karim.
Over here Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has spoken of the pharaoh Allah has spoken
of the pharaoh and his demise and how
he departed from this world and how before
this he used to arrogantly claim that he
owns Egypt and he owns also what?
the rivers, right?
that are flowing so what happened?
how was his demise?
he was drowned that which he used to
arrogantly boast about that didn't actually belong to
him in the first place but arrogantly used
to say this river is mine that was
how he ended up that same water was
how he ended up he passed away like
that another example is Abu Lahab another evil
man although he was the uncle of the
prophet and he used to show off and
his wife used to show off arrogantly they
used to boast Mosul herself him as well,
they used to both show off about how
they looked and he used to show off
he had rosy cheeks they say Lahab, that's
what Lahab means it's a type of complexion,
orangy type of colour and it was said
about him that that's how he looked, around
here and she used to show off, like
the end of the surah her habl min
masad that was around her jeet, her necklace
so what happened to him?
Allah mentions him and his wife ended up
in sayasla naram thatta lahab you are Abu
Lahab, you used to show off about this
rosy type of complexion that's the same type
of fire that's going to, look at this
al imam ibn kathir he says man asha
ala shayin mata alayhi, wa man mata ala
shayin bu'itha feeh anybody who lives upon
something good or bad he normally dies upon
that when you hear people have passed away
their brothers and sisters in sujood it's not
a coincidence it's because they used to do
a lot of sujood like a person who's
never done sujood a wife just says oh
Allah take me in sujood but he doesn't
even know what sujood is how are you
going to end up in sujood?
you're going to end up somewhere else and
likewise a person who always reads Quran and
we see this like they passed away and
the mushaf was in that it's because that's
how they always were in life like the
prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam the narration has come
about that companion who was on his way
to hajj or umrah and he was wearing
the shroud he was wearing the talbiyah he
was wearing the ihram and the prophet sallallahu
alayhi wasallam said keep this on for him,
that will be his shroud put him in
the grave fa innahu yuhsharu yawmal qiyamati mulabbiyan
he will be resurrected yawmal qiyamah making the
talbiyah that's how it is that's the authentic
narration of the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam so
how you live is most likely how you
will die and how you die is how
you will be resurrected ibn al qiyam mentions
this how many people when they are passing
away they are told say la ilaha illallah
say la ilaha illallah and they say the
name of women you laughed but I know
you laughed only because it's a sad reality
and then a woman should be told to
say the name of men random men that
no one knows where did they come from
another person you say say la ilaha illallah
they won't say the name of men or
women they are going to just say checkmate
because their whole life was game and play
that's it so now the game and play
is showing up when you need it the
most to say la ilaha illallah la ilaha
illallah is not a statement that now if
I say I can say it to all
of you and everyone will say it but
at that time it's about tawfiq and at
that time this seals your entire life it
shows what you were doing your entire life
Allah can make it happen but you also
have the opportunity to take the means this
is how Firaun ended up obviously as we
know Firaun because of how terrified they were
of him and he ended up dying in
the water they had to see his body
right because they said that maybe he went
somewhere else they were so scared of him
they didn't believe he has passed away and
his corpse and body is in the water
so that his body was brought out so
people can say oh there he is alhamdulillah
he's gone let him die this man terrorized
the people punished the people he's one of
the worst creation of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala he's the one that claimed that he
was Allah by the way in case any
of you forgot he claimed he was Allah
he said I am Allah he said I
am your Lord the highest he claimed Rabbubi
so they were so scared they said can
you show us that he's actually dead and
then they saw that his body there's no
life within it they were all happy so
this shows you what you get up to
is most likely going to be your final
end so take a look at what you
engage in what you do whether it's in
private as well private things normally come out
as well in their final moments it's not
a good thing if it's bad it's not
a good thing think about yourself you're passing
away your family around you, your parents are
around you, siblings are around you wives around
you, children are around you children are there
and they start seeing and hearing the final
moments of it that's why the Prophet ﷺ
used to always ask Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala about the final moments the sahaba, the
people of the past they would ask Allah
to give them a good husnul khatima may
Allah give us all a good ending pass
it over Hasbuk,
so here until the end of the surah
I will recite inshallah.
And you can just listen and then that
will be the end of the halaqa and
then if there are any questions, we'll take
them inshallah And
those who invoke other than Him have no
power of intercession except those who bear witness
to the truth and they know And if
you ask them who created them, they will
surely say Allah, so how can they be
guided And it was said to him, O
my Lord, these are a people who do
not believe So turn away from them and
say peace, and you will know So
if you see any subtle differences, that is
the reason inshallah So do we have any
questions?
If there's any questions, one or two, we'll
take them inshallah Peace be upon you Peace
be upon you I have a question, why
is it that there are only ten specific
narrations that are accepted and any other narrations
are not accepted?
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala sent down the
Quran like this, like Allah jalla wa ala
made five pillars of Islam Like Allah gave
us two eyes and not five This is
a hikmah that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
revealed the Quran in this way You mentioned
the three advices, to have a high level
of love, that's more than just a base
level for a Muslim How do you increase
that level of love?
Excellent question, so we mentioned hubb aliyah, loving
the Quran at a higher level Every Muslim
should have a minimum level And it is
to study the Quran and its virtues You
need to know that, what does it mean
to carry the Quran?
What it means to carry the Quran is
for you to carry what the Quran is
When you study these virtues and the hadith
and the narrations and you learn about it
It will place within you that hubb inshallah,
Allah knows best In surah al-Qur'an
it says, What does that mean?
Some people take it as the Quran was
made into an Arabic Quran Natural speech of
Allah was not Arabic Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala revealed the Quran in Arabic You don't
take one ayah and isolate it Allah says
elsewhere, very clearly the Quran was revealed like
this in Arabic language It's a language that
Allah selected for it It wasn't that the
Quran was in another language and it got
transferred over to Arabic No, the Quran Allah
revealed it in the Arabic language Other places
Allah jalla wa ala says, we revealed it
Here it says, we made it Okay, tell
the people, Allah says, we revealed it like
that This is how it came down from
Him subhanahu wa ta'ala Yeah, at the
back Yes,
there is a hikmah The hikmah here is
not known to anybody in the world If
you go to the biggest alim in the
world in search with this You won't get
an answer back That doesn't mean there is
no hikmah It's like what I said before
Sometimes Allah shares the hikmah, sometimes Allah doesn't
And it's for you to accept and appreciate
And for you to be in awe That
this is the kitab of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala No, it's not speculation You should
have speculated the Quran Speculation leads to doubt
And if you enter into the route of
doubt You're gonna be lost forever sometimes Yeah,
no speculation We know the hikmah, we ask
the people of knowledge If they provide it,
they provide it A lot of things, even
outside of the Quran, they'll tell you They'll
say that this is a hikmah that is
with Allah But we say everything has a
hikmah It's just about whether or not the
human beings know The last question inshallah Our
brother here Okay,
I haven't understood Give us a demonstration So
sometimes
we get confused because we're transferring The terminologies
from Arabic to English For pause and stopping
and all of this This is all English
words But waqf, if you want to call
it stop And some call waqf pausing This
is where the confusing part happens But waqf
means you stop and you take nafas If
you've stopped and you haven't taken nafas Meaning
a breath Then you have done sakt And
the fourth one, the riwayat hafs And after
the first ayah of surah Here I've stopped,
but I haven't taken a nafas So if
I do that at the end of the
other ayat That's a mistake It's not lahan
jali It's khafi But it's still a mistake
So you have to take a nafas I
don't need to make it very visible and
stuff Like people do Some people say There
was one brother He was reading surah This
is the final part So it's good that
we've left you happy And smiling and laughing
One brother, he was memorizing the Qur'an
So obviously the Qur'an starts from al
-Fatiha But a lot of people memorize from
surah an-Nas, right?
So he started from there So he finished
surah an-Nas He was really happy Finished
surah al-Falaq Really happy Finished surah al
-Ikhlas They considered the last three quls That's
what people call them He was so happy
Because he said I used to hear about
the three quls for a long time So
now that I finished the three quls That
are actually very short I was so happy
Then he went to surah Masad Then he
got to surah Which is one of the
three shortest surahs in the Qur'an Only
three surahs have three ayat So he got
here So here he was over excited Oh
this is only three ayat Oh this is
going to be so easy for me So
then he got to the last ayah It's
a waqf And he struggled with this Because
there is a ha after So you read
to the sheikh You say The sheikh says
And there is a ha after The sheikh
says it again So he said To
pronounce the ha So the sheikh said Ha,
don't blow in my face
