Assalamu alaikum, to welcome back to our discussion or reflections
around the ayat of the Quran. And today, Inshallah, we're gonna talk
about some of the ayat from Surat al sajda, Surat Allah, Zab, Surat
Sabah and Surat Fatar, and we're gonna try to be, I'm going to try
to be as brief as possible inshaAllah, so I'm gonna probably
focus on one or two ayat from each Surah
In Surah Sajida and sajda is the prostration to Allah subhanahu wa,
because there's the sajda in the Surah sajda till where Allah
subhanahu wa describes his pious servants, that a Jew man in
madoja, yet the owner of Bahamas. The main translation of the
meaning of the A is that those believers who are in awe of Allah
subhanahu wa, in fear of Allah subhanahu wa, and showing
gratitude to Allah subhana wa taala, their sides divorce their
beds. Their sides stay away from their beds that a janubu ad in
modal Ajay. Why? Because they're asking Allah subhanahu wa out of
fear from the Wrath of Allah subhana wa Taala and his
punishment, and out of hope in the Mercy of Allah subhana wa Taala
and his Paradise,
and as a reflection of that fear and that hope, they spend from
what ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala has blessed them with. And spending,
in this case, doesn't have only to be in the form of currency or
money, but spending from whatever Allah subhanahu wa has bestowed
upon them. If Allah subhanahu wa gave them knowledge that is their
currency, they are teaching that knowledge to other people. If
Allah subhanahu wa gave gave them physical strength that is their
currency. They spend it by helping other people. If Allah subhanahu
wa gave them wealth, then they spend it in the form of supporting
other people financially and so on. When me, Marisa, can you feel
a home in purity? Ion Jezebel, can we am a loon? If they have that
fear that keeps them away from their beds, Allah subhanahu wa has
prepared for them, and if they have their hope, that hope in the
Mercy of Allah subhana wa taala, ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala has
prepared for them things that they don't even imagine. They can't
even think about the Z and Bima kanwu yamaru as a reward from
Allah subhana wa Taala for what they have been doing.
Allah subhanahu wa also tells us, in this surah about his mercy
Subhanallah, the tests which come in two forms, tests with
prosperity, which are the hard TestS and TestS with calamity,
which are still hard, but not as hard as the test with prosperity,
because in case of calamity, everyone returns to Allah
subhanahu wa. Sane believer knows that only Allah subhanahu wa can
remove that hardship, so they return to Allah subhanahu wa in
case of prosperity, not everyone who has been tested with
prosperity remembers the blessing of Allah subhanahu wa and shows
gratitude for that blessing. That's why Allah subhanahu wa
mentions in other ayat walidum in ibadiya Shakur, as we have talked
about, the ayat in surat al namah,
so Allah subhanahu wa telling us that these tests that come from
Allah subhanahu wa, especially the tests with hardship, which is the
ones that people immediately recognize are not as a form of
punishment, but as a form of reminder. Well, an Udi home, min
Allah ADINA, do naal Akbari, lahala, we see in many of the ayat
that were revealed in previous sur
about nations who have been tested with hardship, and there have been
two different
feedbacks or two different behaviors based on that test. One
of them is people who went even deeper in their defiance to Allah
subhana wa taala, like the people of Iran. And on the other hand,
there are some people who, when they saw the initial form or the
minor form of the punishment of Allah subhanahu wa, that brought
them back to the path of Allah subhanahu wa, as in the story of
the people of Sayyidina, Yunus alayhi wa Salatu was so again,
when we look at any test with hardship. Let's consider that as a
reminder from Allah subhanahu wa and as a gentle nudge from ALLAH
SubhanA wa Taala to bring us back to its path and to tell us, don't
go too far away. You are under my control. It's better for you to
come back to me and I'm going to act.
Accept you if you repent to me, so that that's the way we should
understand it, whether it's something like what we're facing
these days, that pandemic, or anything else, we should consider
this as a reminder from Allah subhanahu wa to bring us best back
closer to him, and that is the Mercy of Allah subhanahu wa
the last ayah that I'd like to comment on in Surat a sajda,
where Allah subhanahu wa gives the two ingredients why Bani Israel,
or the obedient people of any Israel were made as leaders in
that in this world,
wa jal, name be amrina, alum sabaru, wakain, ayo pinun. So the
two ingredients for that leadership are sub enduring
patience on any tests or any hardships, and Yaqeen in Allah
subhanahu wa, full confidence that anything good, or what we
sometimes may perceive as bad, only comes from Allah subhanahu
wa, if it's good on the Allah subhanahu wa can maintain it for
us, and if it's bad On the Allah subhanahu wa again, in our own
perception,
only Allah subhana wa Taala can remove it and relieve it from us.
So again, it's a reminder, under any conditions, yakin, certitude
and confidence in Allah subhana wa Taala and SABR, patience and
endurance on whatever Allah subhanahu wa sends our way, asking
Allah subhanahu wa to relieve it if it's a hardship. Surah Al hazab
is a Surah matania, and it's talking the name of the Al hazab
Are the
Confederates, the different tribes that, together with Quraysh,
allied to invade al Madin al munawwarah After the Battle of
Ahab in the Battle of Al ahzeb, the Battle of Al Ahab Zeb, also
known as razvatul khandak, the Battle of the Trench where they
came from all sides surrounding al Madin al munawww, where the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, when he migrated, had
signed a mutual defense agreement with the Jewish tribes of Al MADI
al Munawwara. One of them was Ben Iqra. The remaining one after the
other two, have been sent into exile because they broke that
agreement with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, until
that time around the fifth year of the Hijra of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, between the fourth and fifth year
of the hijra, basically that was only the remaining tribe inside
the borders of Medina that had a treaty with the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam, and initially, when They were invited to break
that treaty by Quraysh and its allies, in the form of one of the
leaders of banyak Ibn They refused initially to break that treaty,
and they said, We haven't seen anything from Muhammad except for
sincerity and fulfillment of the agreement. So why should we break
that agreement? And after a lot of convincing and and so on, they
decided yes, we're going to align ourselves with Quraysh, and we're
going to betray Rasulullah. So ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala reminds the
believers in this surah about the bounty of Allah subhanahu wa how
ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala break that pact of evil or unity between
Quraysh and beni quraiva, and how Allah subhanahu wa sent some of
his old own soldiers. There was not any. There was no major
fighting in the Battle of Allah, except for some minor skirmishes,
individual skirmishes, but there was no major fighting. Allah
subhanahu wa spared the believers only after being tested again.
Imagine if they had if you were told you need to dig a trench
around your city, and that's in the period of three to four days,
with a depth of at least six feet and a width of about 15 feet.
Imagine if that's the condition, and taking into consideration you
are under cold, very cold weather, lack of resources when it comes to
provisions and food and so on, and with an enemy impending and
surrounding your city, imagine all of these different circumstances.
That's exactly what the companions of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam were subject to. That's why Allah subhanahu wa.
Allah,
subhana wa Taala sent some of his own soldiers in the form of a very
strong wind and individuals and angels the true fear in the heart
of the non believers among these individuals was someone who just
embraced Islam, whose name was no Ibn masroud, who had very good
relationships with both the Jews of banyak quraisah and with
Quraysh, who did not know that he has become a Muslim, and he came
to the Prophet sallallahu sallam, asking him to allow to play a
trick on both camps of the enemy. And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam told him that tricks in war are permissible. Lying in war
is permissible. So he went and through an individual effort, he
managed to break that unity of the two enemies to alight enemies by
making them mistrust each other. And that was again, one of the
means that Allah subhanahu wa sent in the way of the messenger
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, in addition to these strong winds and
the fear that got into the hearts of the non believers, so they had
to leave to break that siege, Quraysh went back to Maka Rama
without fighting. And now the Prophet salallahu alays had to
settle the score with those traitors who betrayed the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the high treason at the time of war,
and the punishment was death for that
so Allah subhanahu wa taala reminds the believers about that
bounty. Allah subhanahu wa tells us in this surah about who is our
role model to emulate, lakadela, kumfirahi, uswatun, hasana le
Mankin, Ayatollah Dakar, Allah aqirah, indeed, in the personality
of the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam, you have the best role
model for those who hope in Allah subhanahu wa and hope in the Mercy
of Allah subhanahu wa, and those who have great hopes for the Day
of Judgment, that they're going to be successful and be led to the
Mercy of Allah SubhanaHu wa and his paradise. And then Allah
subhanahu wa is telling us about
Merkin al muhammadun, Abu, Asmaa, kumula, rasulallah, wahotam,
nabiyin, Sayyid, nazaib, naharita, RadiAllahu Abu, the great
companion of the Prophet sallallahu sallam, who was gifted
to the Prophet sallallahu, alas as a slave by a Sayyida Khadija
radiAllahu anha in the early days of Islam in Mecca and Rasulullah
loved Sayyidina Zaidi harita so much he freed him from bondage and
he adopted him. And for a while his name was Zayd ibn Muhammad,
when the father of Sayyidina harita recognized that his son was
kept in maqamah. He traveled to try to buy his freedom, and then
when he saw his son being raised in the household of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, as if he were the son of the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam as a free man, and Sayyidina Zayed was
made to choose between going back with his paternal biological
father and rasulallah. He chose the companionship of rasulallah,
and he was named or nicknamed him Bo rasulallah, the great love, the
brotherly love of the Prophet sallallahu, alayhi wa sallam, his
son later on, after Sayyidina, Zayed, RadiAllahu, Anhu was
martyred. His son, Sayyidina, Osamu, Abdullah Wan Huma was known
as Al hibb Bub the beloved one, the son of the beloved one.
RadiAllahu, anhuj Mahim so Allah subhanahu wa is abolishing this
practice of
adoption and telling everyone that Sayyidina Zayd should restore his
old name, Zayd ibn harita, and not be named Zayd ibn Muhammad,
because rasulallah is not the father of any of these companions.
Rasulullah had his own biological family. So that concept of
adoption was abolished in in this surah
in Surat Sabah, very beautiful Surah that is named after a tribe
in Yemen and the civilization in Yemen Sabah is we talked about
Sabbath before, when we talked about Surah to Nam, in an event
before the Prophet sallallahu, alasallam, long time before the
Prophet salallahu, alayhi wa sallam, When Sayyidina, Sulaiman
alabina Ali isallah to Salam was the prophet and the king, and we
talked about the QAM.
Confrontation between the kingdom of faith of Sayyidina Sulaiman
with the kingdom of this belief of Sabbath, led by bilqis, the Queen
of Sabah, and how she embraced Islam and followed Sayyidina
Sulaiman alabina Ali salatul Salaam in Surat Sabah. However,
Allah subhanahu wa gives us another chapter of the story of
this big, prosperous civilization and ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala is
telling us how responding in the wrong way to the blessings of
Allah subhana wa Taala can result into in the disappearance of these
blessings. Look at can Ali Saba in famous kaniim Jannat Colum risky
Robb become Mosh gurula, belda tonto, one of bun Kafur, ALLAH
SubhanA wa Taala is saying that there was a clear sign from ALLAH
SubhanA wa Taala to Sabah and to the believers afterwards, in the
In the civilization of Sabah, they had prosperity, they had gardens,
they had plantations, they were quite wealthy. And what did how
did they respond to these blessings from Allah subhanahu wa?
They turned their backs to Allah subhanahu wa. They did not believe
the messengers who were sent to them to invite them to believe in
Allah subhanahu wa, and when they did that again, Allah subhanho wa
Taala initially tested them with a minor test, similar to what we
mentioned in Surat is sajda, so that they might return back to
Allah subhana wa taala. But they went even deeper into in their
disbelief and their challenge of Allah subhanahu wa. That when they
turned
their backs to Allah subhana wa taala, ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala
caused a dam that they had built to be breached, to break, and
there was a huge flood that destroyed all of these gardens and
all of these crops. And now the the water that was kept behind the
dam that they used to regulate to irrigate their fields, now there's
no dam, and they are, they are at the mercy of Allah subhanahu wa if
ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala sends rain their way, or if ALLAH SubhanA wa
Taala commands the rain to stop, which is what happened. So instead
of these lush gardens that they had, they had sparse plantations
here and there, but kinds of trees that were not as luxurious and
fruitful as the previous ones.
Now, anyone who had a sense of understanding of the power of
Allah subhanahu wa that would urge them to return to Allah subhana wa
taala. However, they kept going deeper and deeper into their
disbelief away from Allah subhanahu wa, and they said,
wakaluna as Farina, what volumes? Allah, subhana wa taala, with his
mercy.
When that civilization was destroyed, there was still some
villages, and the distances between these villages were not
that hard. So they can still communicate. They can still
conduct trade among these, these villages and what jail, never
mobile. 10, see rufi. See rufi Halawa, said, See rufi Halawa, I
have an Emini. Then between them and the prosperous villages, Allah
subhanahu wa gave them a short distance that they can travel
safely, without any hardship, and they can still buy and sell and
have transactions with these prosperous villages. Now, trade is
not an equalizer. Trade requires physical ability know how, and
most importantly, capital.
So now that the civilization itself was destroyed, the land
owners, the rich land owners became equal to the poor farmers
who used to work in these lands, and these rich land owners did not
want these farmers to have an equal footing with them. They were
again a stratified society with different social classes, so the
rich ones did not want to interact with the poor. Now trade is going
to enable them to do that. They are not going to be equal to the
poor. The poor do not have capital. The poor do not have the
same means of protections. So instead of waking up and aging
their mistakes and stopping these the strong doing, they supplicated
to Allah subhanahu wa in a very odd way, call.
They ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala made their travel easy and the distance
is close to bridge and to travel between. But they asked Allah
subhana wa taala, Rob Ben abena, is Farina, Oh Allah, make our
travel even more distant and harder. Why is that? Because,
again, only the rich and the mighty and the powerful are going
to be able to conduct that trade, so that's gonna distance them even
further from the poor working class. So they're gonna restore
that social class of the haves and the have nots, and ALLAH SubhanA
wa taala, based on this injustice, destroyed them. Completely
destroyed them. Taj al Nahum, Ahadith, Abu Asmaa Zach Nahum,
cool Abu asmaaq In Nafi, deris, bearing Shakur and ALLAH SubhanA
wa Taala attributes that disobedience, that they followed
the promise of iblees as and they did not believe in the promise of
Allah subhanahu wa minyan, so Iblis in his old promise to Allah
subhanahu wa, I'm gonna try to bring with me as many people as
possible. They responded to the call of Iblis instead of
responding to the call of Allah
subhanahu wa
in Surat father Allah subhanahu WA, the Creator of the heavens and
the earth. Ja el Mela, ikati, rusulan, Udi ajini hat in met now
a tulata arubaha, the creator of the angels, and the one who gave
these angels wings two pairs or three pairs or four pairs. Yazidi
Mahe Allah, Subhanahu wa can grant more power to whomever he
Subhanallah chooses or wills. Subhanallah
in Surat. Father, and again, as we mentioned, I'm gonna try to just
select one or two ayat from every surah in Surat. Father, Allah,
subhana wa Taala gives us the recipe for glory and pride and
success. Mankind is falilizu jamiah, whoever wants pride and
might and success, Allah subhanahu wa has all the pride has all the
might has all the success. Faliliz,
Kari Mukta IB, WA, la Saal Hu Ya FAU, the good word goes up to
Allah subhanahu wa in a very beautiful way, and ALLAH SubhanA
wa Taala accepts it in a very beautiful way. Elihi as Adul, Kari
Mukta IB, but words by themselves are not enough. So what is gonna
be the vehicle that's gonna lift these good words to Allah
subhanahu wa, and the supplication to Allah subhanahu wa, the good
deeds are gonna be that vehicle that's gonna take these words from
the earth to the heavens to Allah subhanahu wa. So that's why,
whenever we are supplicating to Allah subhanahu wa and it was sort
of mandatory for a very brief period of time in the history of
Islam, probably less than a day,
that if you want your to talk to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam and ask for a favor from the Prophet SAW, or ask him to
supplicate to you or seek knowledge from the Prophet. Saw
them, you have to proceed that meeting with the Prophet. Saw them
with the charity that you make for all for Allah subhanahu wa, some
of the companions, when this ayah was revealed, they felt sad
because some of them did not have anything to send as charity. So
Allah subhanahu wa removed that burden from them and Allah
subhanahu wa them to approach the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam, without
paying that charity in advance as a condition for talking to the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. But the meaning is still
there that if you want to supplicate to Allah subhanahu wa,
show in your actions what you are asking for if you're asking for
prosperity, show that you are trying to help people become
prosperous. If you're asking for support, show that you are
providing earthly support to other people. If you're asking for mercy
on compassion or compassion, you have to exemplify that in your
dealings with other people, as Rasulullah mentions in the meaning
of the Hadith, men lay urham, those who do not show mercy to the
creation of Allah subhanahu wa will not be recipients of that
mercy from Allah subhanahu.
Wa taala, so ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala also, in this surah tells us
about who truly fears Allah subhana wa taala, who truly is
mindful of ALLAH SubhanA wa taala, and who truly appreciates the
greatness and the glory of ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala in Nama
yashallah, I mean a very ulama, truly the knowledgeable people are
the ones who truly fear Allah subhanahu wa, because when they
know the beautiful attributes of Allah subhanahu wa, he is Al
Khaliq araza a rosaq, al Wahab, Al Fatih al alim, and all the
beautiful attributes of Allah SubhanaHu wa, he is rafiud Gam he
is Kabiru Taw. He is Shadi du la Cobb. He is the Taw Subhanallah
taala. All of these are beautiful attributes of Allah subhanahu wa
when they understand who they are, are worshiping. Awe is gonna fill
their hearts, and they're gonna be in awe of that great creator,
subhanah wa taala, and they're gonna try to do their best to obey
Allah subhanahu wa and worship Allah subhanahu wa in a way that
is pleasing to Allah subhanahu wa. So in NAMA, yashallah Ha Min
Abadi, ulama, and this ayah was revealed. The beginning of the
ayah is how ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala created the heavens and the earth,
and within the mountains, you're gonna find black mountains, you're
gonna find red mountains, you're gonna find white mountains, and so
on and so forth, different different shapes, different sizes,
what the web, you will. And I am in telephone, and when hooked a
Delic and even among the human beings and the animals and the
cattle, you're gonna find different colors within the cows.
You're gonna find different colors within the reptiles. You're gonna
find different colors within humans. You're gonna find
different colors. Colon Moya, Sir, only my holy color. Each one has
been created perfectly for the environment in which they live.
And that's part of the examples that ALLAH SubhanA wa Taala is
sending us our way. So when we see this diversity and when this we
see these different creatures and different species and different
colors from different ethnicities, complementing each other,
collaborating with each other, we appreciate the greatness of Allah
subhanahu wa, and that fills our hearts with satisfaction of who we
are worshiping and fear from making Allah subhanahu wa taala
displeased with us. So in namah shalah mean Abadi i, we ask Allah
subhanahu wa to make us among the knowledgeable people who truly
appreciate the greatness of Allah subhanahu wa and strive as much as
they can to please Allah subhanahu wa and stay away from angering
Allah subhanahu wa inshaAllah tomorrow or next time, we're gonna
talk about other ayat from the book of ALLAH SubhanA wa taala. So
until next time, Allah Asmaa, Allah here, barakatuh.
