I think one of the most beautiful things ever about the Islam is our
greeting. It really is. And I say that as someone who, when I first
started, you know, this is I'll just quickly mentioned but when
the first day
the first day I ever wore hijab, you know, I went into a fabric
store. This is when I made the intention to wear hijab. And I
literally went into an Indian fabric store here in Berkeley,
California. And I asked the lady to cut a square, and she just made
a square piece of fabric with all the frayed edges and everything. I
wanted it and I come I call it I call it a babushka style, you
know, it's like a Russian little woman from I don't know.
I kind of tied it in a knot because I have pins we this was
way before all the fancy hijab styles there are now so I tied it
and I was scared obviously, this is many years ago over 2025
router, how many years ago now? But at that time, there was some
fear coming out, like what am I going to receive? And I'll tell
you just a little bit about the Subhan Allah Allah sends people.
I'm walking in the streets of Berkeley, really, for the first
time imagine wearing hijab in public
and always find a sense this brother, African American and
brother I don't know if he was Muslim or not, but the way he saw
me and he greeted me it was like he just came and gave me this bolt
of energy. I don't know what it was. I can't describe what but he
definitely impacted me because he just said it was so don't fat
ugly. I salam Wa alaykum you know, he's just like, so proud of me.
And I would have sent him to me and I will never forget that
moment because I was like, it was like a low is like you're good.
You're good. You know
