Take it as something that a person cannot
earn.
But the sunnah of Allah
is that he doesn't give people things that
they are not going to appreciate,
that they are not going to appreciate.
This is not just something or a sacrifice
that was made by
at some nondescript point in the past.
And then after he left
the deen changed,
and we no
longer are obliged to or asked to make
such sacrifices.
What is the of the Muslims?
Did the dean change after the prophet
came? Absolutely not.
Of you. Rather, he's the messenger of Allah.
When he says something, this is the hookm
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
There is no debate, there is no discussion,
there is no questioning why. There is only
first to hear and to obey.
He is the messenger of Allah and the
seal of the prophets.
He is the seal of the prophets, he
is the last of the prophets. Any of
Nubuwa, any claim of prophethood after him, is
complete
misguidance,
and a lie, and the path to the
* fire.
So this is our this
is our basic most basic belief.
The deed didn't change after he left
But we think what? We think somehow
they did something and they received something. We
can do something different and get the same
thing that they received.
This is a logical fallacy. This is an
irrational
belief.
This is an irrational belief.
They did something, and they got something. We're
gonna do something qualitatively different, but we're gonna
get the exact same result.
Imam Malik
said what?
The islah, the rectification of the last part
of this ummah. It's not going to be
through anything except for the thing that rectified
the first part of the
The last part of this ummah is not
going to be rectified through anything
other than that which rectified the first part
of the ummah.
Now,
everybody is happy. Now the sun has set.
It is now the second of Sha'aban.
Ramadan is around the corner.
Ramadan
has become a very festive time of
year. We have lights in the masjid,
and there are all sorts of activities and
iftar, parties, and suhoor parties,
and all sorts of, you know, just festivities
going on here and there. I love Ramadan.
I love Ramadan.
You can eat samosas and, like, and all
sorts of other unhealthy fried foods that are
probably not good for your system when you
first open your fast. Okay. I'm gonna lay
off that. It's not haram. Right? There's all
this stuff that's haram. Haram. So okay, fine.
If it's not haram, I'm gonna lay off
that. I'm not gonna get too much up
on that. Okay? But the idea is that
we associate it with all of these things.
Very few people understand what Ramadan
is.
Why is Ramadan
Right? Why is Ramadan legislated for the Umma?
Right?
The the fasting was written for you as
a commandment. It was ordained for you as
a commandment. Like it was ordained as a
commandment for those before you,
in the hopes that what?
In the hopes that you might learn the
fear of Allah
It's a hadith of the prophet
It's a hadith of the Prophet
that
the
is what?
Patience.
Patience is half of a person's iman.
Patience is what? Half of a person,
their their iman.
And fasting, there's another hadith in which it
says it's written that fasting or it said
that the prophet
said that fasting is half of patience. Why?
Because all of the things that you want,
all of the things that your animal self
desires,
if you cannot
wait for
them. We're not saying that you deny yourself.
There's no natural desire of the nafs, a
healthy person. Somebody has some sort of like,
pathology or, some sort of illness, mentally or
psychologically.
That's something different. We can deal with those
things. We can treat those things. But the
can deal with those things. We can treat
those things. But the normal healthy
nafs, the things that it desires, the sharia
does deny any of them.
A person wishes to eat fasting is not
like the like Jainism that you're supposed to
wander out naked, unclothed into the into the
forest and starve yourself to death in order
to receive enlightenment.
That's not enlightenment. That's haram.
Put on some clothes. Go eat something. It
it'll be alright.
With all due respect, this is a difference
of opinion we have with them. Right?
It doesn't the the the
the the
the desires that are there between a man
and a woman,
the Quran actually rebukes rebukes the people who
deny those things.
The Quran rebukes the people who deny those
things. In fact, it's because the blame worthiness
of denying that shahuwah,
possibly that this is a masjid now, and
it's not what it used to be from
before.
These things are not unconnected.
These things are not unconnected.
The deen doesn't teach a person to what?
Deny deny your
your your desires. A person has so many
desires. A person wishes to be respected.
Deen doesn't just say go turn yourself into
a doormat that everybody walks over. The deen
doesn't say give up all your rights and
all these things. The dean even even though
a person is not supposed to be with
a kabir, a person is not supposed to
be arrogant, the natural and normal needs of
a person, psychological needs, psychiatric needs of a
person, the dean doesn't teach you to wholesale
give any of them up because to give
them up
would be to not be human. What does
it teach? What does it teach? Just be
able to be patient a little bit.
Just be able to hold yourself back.
If the body is like a horse,
if body is very strong, it can do
a lot of things.
We have some brothers here are really strong.
Some brothers here maybe can run for like
10 miles.
Maybe some brothers here can bench press £300.
Right? Maybe some sisters can take more almost
definitely the sisters will be able to take
more pain than the brothers.
Almost definitely the sisters can take more pain
than the brothers. This is I've seen I've
heard this from many, nurses in the past.
They say that that men, especially young and
healthy men, the slightest amount of sight of
their own blood or their own pain sends
them into a panic. Why? Because they're accustomed
to being so healthy that, like, when things
go wrong, their mind doesn't even know how
to deal with it. Whereas, women give childbirth
and all of these other complications, and they're
saber. They can deal with it. They don't
trip when the when those things happen.
All you have to do is be able
to what? This body is so strong, it
can do so much.
It's like a horse, and your your spirit
is like what? It's like a rider.
And what happens? Do you think any person
can get up onto any horse and, it's
gonna work out? It's gonna be like Lord
of the Rings? The guy's gonna, you know,
be jumping off cliffs
and shooting arrows
and doing battle and all this. No. The
rider needs to know what the rider is
doing. The horse needs to know what the
horse is doing. How does the horse learn?
Do you call the horse to Mastuluhuda?
Seat it down.
Say here's some kabuli palau.
Here's some
Here's some green tea
and frosted
almonds. Let me tell you about how this
is gonna work.
I'm going to kick you a little bit.
You're still gonna start running fast. Deal? Doesn't
work that way.
How does it
work? The horse has to be broken.
There has to what? The horse has to
be broken.
Trained again and again and again.
The horse has to be fed when it
does good, and the horse has to be
punished when it's doing bad.
Oh my God. That sounds horrible. It's a
horse for God's sake.
That's what they say about the Roman Emperor
Caligula.
By all objective standards, a very messed up
individual.
He used to dine with he used to
dine with his horse. Like, he used to
have and he'd have conversations with his horse.
That's not
it's one of the reasons he's not mentioned
you know, remembered as one of the most
celebrated,
over the Roman Empire.
It's decline. It's it's a lack of ability
to reason.
The horse has to be broken. The rider
you teach it, the of teaching the rider
is a completely different path, and the the
the setup of how you train the horse
is completely different. And then when the
to do? It's not gonna do anything. If
you're sitting there wasting away, and you have
the most pious of souls, and you're completely
bedridden, you can't move any you can't you're
not you're not doing any good deeds, You're
not doing any bad deeds.
What's the point of your life at that
point?
Literally, when the ruha leaves the body, all
you do, you put it in the ground.
The body itself doesn't wish to go on.
The body can go on. You can hook
it up to, like, all of these,
machines, and the lungs will still breathe and
the heart will still beat. You keep shocking
it. It can do it can do all
of that stuff itself. It just doesn't want
to anymore. What's the point?
What's the point? It's just it gives up
its will to live.
On the flip side, right, the the the
body is, is good and the person's root
is completely dead, and they act act like
what? They act worse than they act worse
than other animals do. They act worse don't
mind hurting other people for things that don't
even benefit them anymore. Don't mind hurting other
people for things that don't even benefit them
anymore.
For things that don't even benefit them anymore.
How much money can you spend in your
lifetime?
How many rooms can you live in?
Really, for God's sakes, what's the difference between
the $100,000
Lexus and the 100 $1,000 Lexus?
Other than some sickness inside of the mind.
What is this Ramadan? It's there to teach
you patience. What is the patience? That the
horse horse needs to be broken.
What's the what's the horse?
It's the body. It's the the the physical
body, the nafs that comes with the body.
Who's the rider? It's your it's your intellect
and it's your your spirituality.
We need to learn this patience. So this
is not a lecture about Ramadan and fasting
and whatnot. Come
I have no doubt that there will be
a superior,
superior level of training and a superior
level of practice of Ramadan.
You're not going to have fancy soiree iftar
parties,
where everyone dresses in their finest and, you
know, regales you with exquisite
conversation
and wonderful cultural,
expression
in,
you know, something that's the social time of
your life that you'll have here.
You can go to the I'm sure there
are other that will do that. Here you'll
learn to read the Quran, make dhikr, pray.
You pray like your life depended on it.
Pray, you're gonna learn to make dua like
your life depended on it. You learn all
of these things inshallah. But the idea is
what? This subr is so important that Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, his messenger sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam said what? He said that what? He
said that this sabr is half of your
faith.
And Allah ta'ala in his own book, he
said what? This suburb.
Allah ta'ala is with the people who are
patient.
Allah ta'ala If Allah is with you, then
what other need do you have in the
world?
Right? Allah ta'ala is what? With the
There's so many, you know, there's so many
rewards. Rahma and Maghfirah and
and all of these different this guidance
and mercy and forgiveness, all of these different
all of these different rewards for sabr.
What's one of the most interesting rewards for
sabr?
The people of Sabr are given reward without
any mathematical
correlation between the amount of sabr that they
had and the amount of reward that they're
going to be given. Literally, they'll see,
you Allah, so little sabr, so much reward.
It doesn't make sense.
It doesn't make sense.
I challenge
you. Other than patience, you will not find
any any,
good deed that is mentioned like that in
the book of Allah Ta'ala or in the
sunnah of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
Well, Sheikh, what about the hadith Qudsi in
which Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says. Right?
He says that
that that every good deed of the son
son of Adam is rewarded 10 times. It's
worth at the minimum all the way to
700 times. This is also one of the
opinions of the
Every deed of the son of Adam will
be rewarded 10 times its worth,
except for
what? Except for fasting. Because fasting is for
me,
and I am the one who reward for
it. And according to the an opinion of
the it's not that. It's actually And I
am the reward for it.
Fasting is for me and I am the
reward for it.
So does it
doesn't that doesn't that you just contradict what
you just said? Didn't Rasool Allah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam say that fasting is half of
patience?
It's the same thing. It's the same concept.
It's a concept that what? You need to
know something is right in your mind, and
you need to know something that's right in
your heart, and you need to be able
to break the horse.
That you will take me the extra mile
in order to get to what? Our destination.
The horse wants to give up. If the
horse gives up, both the horse and rider
die together in the middle of the desert.
The horse wants to give up.
The mind says, we can't give up right
now. We will go the extra mile. I
know you don't like it but once we
get there, you'll be okay. I'll be okay.
Both of us will
be okay. There's benefit for what? Both the
horse and for the rider.
This is the secret of what one of
the greatest of Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
This is the secret of one of the
greatest teachings of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. This
is the the secret to
why the people of the of this Umaken
reach the maqam that they can.
Sabr doesn't happen. Patience doesn't happen except for
when what you want to happen isn't happening.
Whether it's the patience in staying away from
those haram things, those prohibited things that you
wish for and you desire. You want them
so badly.
There are certain desires in this world.
There are certain desires in this world. What
am I gonna tell the kids?
Knows. There are certain desires in this world.
If they're not fulfilled, literally kill a
man.
Have patience.
Have patience. Learn to deal with it. Learn
to manage it.
Learn to deal with it. Learn to manage
it. You will never even that own that
desire that you want, you'll never fulfill it
except for through what?
Except for through patience.
Except for through what?
Except for through patience
through. This masjid that we're in right now,
what do you think? What do you think
happened?
One person was like, okay. I'm gonna just
buy it here, check you. Go ahead and
take it. They take care of it, deal
with it, and all of a sudden magically
all these people. Ask the brothers, the brothers
who
painted the walls and, like, got estimates for
this and that and worked on the bathroom
and went to, like, different weird masjids and
have doors slammed in your face when you
wanna raise funds for it, and all of
this. Ask them, how how how difficult was
it? At the beginning, it seemed like an
impossible task. Did it get done? Alhamdulillah.
Allah ta'ala, he's the one. Because of his
blessings, all good deeds can come to completion.
Without his blessings, nothing will happen.
This suburb is very important. And if you
look at the lives of the prophet
alaihi wa sallam and his companions radhiallahu ta'ala
anhu, you'll see what kind of sabur they
went through.
Imagine a person and this is this could
be a talk that could be for anything.
Somebody wants to get through medical school. Somebody
wants to buy a car. Somebody wants to,
you know, paint their house. Somebody wants to,
whatever, lose £50.
Somebody wants to all these other different
type goals that people have that are good
goals. Inshallah, all of these things, whoever has
any of these goals or any goal like
it, needs a job, needs to get married,
all of these things, Allah give
from his from his to everybody fulfill all
these things. It's one thing when you're doing
it for the dunya, because even a kafir
knows that eventually no matter how successful I
am in this dunya, it's all gonna go
away. It's all gonna die. We all know
that.
There's nobody who who doesn't know that inside
of their mind, that one day everything will
go. One day beauty will turn into,
will turn into dust. One day money will
be gone. Food will be consumed.
One day, all of these things that that
a person desires, all of them are going
to be gone.
A person puts The desire that a person
puts into the deen.
The desire that a person puts into what?
Into
They're seeking Allah and his the rasul sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam. Their desire that they put
into seeking better for better for this ummah.
Their desire that they put into seeking better
for the Muslims.
Their desire to feed the poor. Their desire
to clothe the the the the destitute and
feed the destitute. Their desire to take care
of orphans, and to,
treat the sick. These things that are done
for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
a person has the idea that this is
something that will give back to me. This
is a deed that will live forever.
Will live forever.
That's why setbacks in these deeds are so
much more crushing than setbacks in the dunya.
And you think about it, it seems like
a like a double jeopardy. It seems very
perilous.
Why? Because the the thing you do for
yourself, you enjoy it so much when when
you're here.
And the things that you do for the
sake of Allah you don't get to enjoy
them.
Allah gives everybody from from his from his
grace.
But from a strictly from a perspective, you
don't enjoy them in this dunya. This is
a hadith of the prophet
that the the when he does a good
deed, all of his reward is in this
in this dunya.
Here, air to breathe, water to drink, food
to eat, here's some money, buy a house,
buy a car, buy this, buy that.
You're, you know, have some very interesting company
while you're here. All these all these wonderful
things here. It's all for you.
You did it. Eat it. Drink it in
the dunya. Finish it in the dunya. Come
to me empty handed. Don't ask me for
anything on
that day. Whereas the believer,
when they do a good deed
when they do a good deed, that deed
is saved for their akhirat, saved for their
When they do a bad deed, oftentimes, more
often than not, they're punished for it in
this world so that they can go
in such a state that they're completely,
clean handed in front of
Allah. People say, oh my god. If god
exists, how come suffering happens, and people this
and that, and I know someone's child had
some horrible sickness, and blah blah blah, and
why are good people,
you know, shot and killed, and all of
these
things. What do you know about any of
these things?
What do you know about any of the
person who dies from a horrible death from
illness?
What do you know that Allah Ta'ala hasn't
written for that person, the of a shahid?
What do you know the person who who
is who is killed unjustly that Allah Ta'ala
hasn't written for them? The of shahid that
as a as as a, a a recompense
for having to go through that.
Allah has forgiven all of their sins. All
of their sins. What do you know about
the difficulties people go through? Why they go
through them?
What do you know about what the pleasure
is in having suffered the difficulties
of the ones Allah loves.
And what do you think about the enjoyment
of the one Allah Ta'ala hates?
Allah hates a person if that person's enjoying.
Everybody's watching the YouTube video on the day
of judgement saying, this person set setting up
to fall real hard. He's like an idiot
dancing and singing and going to the hemp
convention or whatever I was talking about. He's
enjoying himself. You're like, it's coming. It's coming.
Bam. Done.
The happiness is not a real happiness. It's
a false happiness.
It's less appropriate to attribute it happiness and
more appropriate to attribute it to stupidity.
It's a hadith of the prophet
that the love of the material world is
the wellspring, the the the the source,
headwaters of every every mistake.
Every every mistake, every incorrect action that's done,
it all starts from what? The love of
the dunya.
Because there's someone always there's someone in this
world who loves the dunya so much that
they believe that in their spam box, the
princess who, like, wrote him a letter that
just send me $10,000 and I'll
wire you 4,000,000 and I'll live with you
and you'll become like the sovereign of some
republic in a different continent.
Iman person has
in the dunya, it carries them to iman
carries a person to do
amazing things.
And sometimes, if it's a good iman, it
will carry you to do amazing wonderful things.
And if it's not such a good iman,
it'll carry you to do some not such
good things.
The the sabr that a person has the
sabr that a person has is based on
that knowledge from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, that
the things that you're going through right now,
they will have some benefit on the other
side. And I don't mean to be completely,
like like, grim in the outlook that, okay,
become good Muslims and do things for the
sake of Allah ta'ala, and
your life will become horrible, but inshallah, you
go to Jannah eventually.
Said Abu Bakr
Said Namur
The Sahaba
in general. They went through
difficulties.
Some of them some of them gave their
lives for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala in the most harsh of conditions. But
the generality of them actually lived with great
dignity.
Why? Because happiness is not something that has
to do with what you're
consuming.
We have some middle school kids here.
Happiness doesn't have to do with something you're
consuming.
If you what's the best pair of shoes
you can think of?
They they used to have Jordans. I don't
kids don't even know who Jordan is anymore.
Right? What is what is like a how
much does a good pair of sneakers cost?
How much does it cost?
How much?
$300.
Right? You you want a $300 pair of
sneakers
and your baba is like, what?
We're going to pay less and we're gonna
get $20 sneakers.
Do you think the person who has the
$20 sneakers, who's better? The one with the
$300 sneakers or the one with the $20
sneakers? No. Not necessarily. They're sneakers. They're shoes.
How how are you supposed to tell about
a person based
on what shoes they're wearing? It's completely irrelevant.
One car is green and one car is
red. Which one's faster? Completely irrelevant.
Has absolutely nothing to do with
any objective measure that will allow you to
assess which car is going to go faster
than which car.
This is something Sahaba
Anyway, coming back to issue the point. I'm
not telling you that what? The the the
person who does for the sake of Allah
is going to live this life of grief,
because there are a lot of people who
did something for the sake of Allah Ta'ala,
and Allah Ta'ala gave them a great amount
of
But the idea is what? The idea is
that your deeds, the reward for them, the
hadith continues. That the reward for your deeds
is not gonna be given to you in
this world. That's what Allah does with people
he
hates. What did he do? What does he
do with the people he loves?
What does Allah do with his loves?
He says here,
I'm going to cash this in on the
day that it's going to be so valuable,
so valuable. People will be walking around parched
in the desert,
Completely vexed.
Completely disheveled.
They will literally like beg people, give me
1 subhanallah. Give me 1 allahu Akbar.
Give me 1
give me 1 Allahu Akbar. And there'll be
people from this umrah. They'll walk around with
Hajj and Umrah and fasting
and raising their children, and their children are
her father of Quran, someone with somebody
with this reward, somebody with that reward, someone
fed so many people. Somebody,
gave gave, you know,
a $100 when they were broke. Allatahana
knows best.
They'll be walking there'll be some people they'll
be they'll be ready to jump you. If
they could have jumped
you, they would have jumped you just for
one.
That's it.
Allah will give you the reward for for
these deeds on the day where the reward,
the price, the market price is going to
be highest.
Out of his love, that's what a person
would do for the people that he loves.
So you go, I, you know, I just
I I need to sell my, my whatever
wedding ring. Don't go to the pawn shop.
They're gonna give you, like, pennies on the
dollar for it. So I know a jeweler,
he'll, you know, he'll give
you like 95%
of market rate.
Gives you at least a 1000% market rate.
On that day you'll get it. And on
the hadith, what does it say? It says,
and because he loves you, he'll give you
something in this world as well.
That's free. That's just because he loves
the people of iman. That's just because everyone
who says, la ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah is
a wali of Allah.
Everyone who says, there's no God except for
1. And that Sayna Muhammad
is his Messenger, that person is a saint,
that person is someone Allah loves, they love
Allah, Allah loves them. That person Allah is
pleased with them, because they're pleased with Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And look around. If there's
someone you don't like, and you say, this
person is a waliyah of Allah. They still
are, even if you don't like it. Good
thing you're not the one, and I'm not
the one distributing the mercy of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala because if we were, we would
have been miserly with it. Good thing it's
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala who's Al Kareem Akramul
Akramin.
He's the generous the most generous of anyone
who ever had any nisbah, any connection with
generosity.
This is what he'll give you something on
the side. So the idea is what? You
have the rule,
and then you have you have like the
details afterward. The rule is what? Your deeds
will be rewarded where?
In the hereafter.
The exception is okay. Because Allah loves you,
he'll give you something here as well. No
need to be no need to be despondent
about it. And if you don't say, well,
I know someone who did something really, you
know, that person was trying to like whatever,
give $5 to a homeless person and he
got stabbed.
This is this is this is a very
valid concern. These things happen in life. There's
a hadith of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam.
Imagine a person leaves their home in the
path of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
spending their own money and risking their own
life, so that the of Allah ta'ala can
be supreme.
What type of sacrifice and what kind of
deed could be more,
great in the eyes of Allah ta'ala than
that?
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, the one
who goes out of Mujazfi and
he comes home victorious.
And he comes home having,
gained,
booty from from from victory.
That person, 2 thirds of his reward 2
thirds of his reward is given to him
in the dunya.
They'll only receive 1 third of their reward.
The Sahaba radiAllahu on whom were
confused, they said, that's what we thought you
supposed to do.
You know, if you get if you get
like 33% on an exam in school, that's
it. That's like an f. That's not
that's you Allah, that's that's
that's that's how it's supposed to happen. How
who's the one who gets the full reward
then?
The
one that he his blood is spilled and
his horse gets killed as
well. The one his blood is spilled and
his horse gets killed as well.
Imagine imagine.
Right?
The you know, people who are like kind
of they're they're just these like little lemmings
in line, and they just go into work,
and this and that, and I gotta buy
this because someone else bought it, and I
saw something on whatever some person I don't
like on Facebook, you know, he went on
vacation somewhere. So, you know, my wife is
saying we have to go also so that
we because they did it, and or, you
know, my husband said we have to oh,
this this is all nonsense. This is true.
So those people when they hear they hear,
oh, there was a stampede in Hajj and
all these people got crushed. They're like, oh
my goodness. I never spent $7,000
on a vacation. If you spent $7,000
on a 2 week vacation, it's gonna be
really nice vacation. I don't know. Maybe some
baller like Silicon Valley, like, someone in the
crowd, like, you know, like, whatever,
started Uber or something like that, in which
case, you know,
let's have a talk afterward. But the idea
is what? The idea is that that
you're you're wondering that these people spent so
much money on this thing, and it's not
even fun in the first place.
And they're supposed to like go to Jannah
or something, and then they ended up dying
afterward. They're like, oh my goodness. You know
religion is the cause of all evil, and,
this sounds like a really horrible idea. And
like, you know, we should be more enlightened
and have a more
progressive idea of Islam because,
and the Saudi government is horrible, and this
is horrible, and that is horrible, and maybe
they oh, maybe they are, maybe they aren't.
I don't know. And the point of this
I don't it's politics I'm not making a
statement one way or the other. Right? But
what what is it you're seeing from, like,
this kind of, like, you know, this level
of, like, the the horse sees, like, a
Ferrari come by and, like, a Toyota Corolla
come by and he's like, wow.
What's the difference? You know? The dog is
like, what's the difference? Get out of the
way, it'll run you over.
What is it? Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wrote
or Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's messenger said,
that the person who dies, the person who
dies,
in in Hajj.
Allah will
write for them the reward that they're they're
performing the person who dies in ihram. Allah
will write for them the reward of a
person who performs Hajj continuously until
Imagine. Imagine.
Like the airport.
Nobody likes going to the airport.
Imagine like the airport,
some people are getting like United Airlines. Bow.
They're getting, you know, get get WWF on
the thing break your teeth and whatnot.
Right?
Some people are like, that your flight was
cancelled. You're delayed for 10 hours and we
only had like a 100 cuts and they've
already been all assigned out. So just sleep
on the floor or whatever. Who cares?
Imagine,
you know, we're boarding 1st class, sir.
Okay. So just please have a seat. The
subtext, the look in the eyes being like,
you're like a piece of garbage. You didn't
pay anything for for the ticket because you're
broke, and we don't care about you. So
just take your broke self over there and
just sit down. Self over there and just
sit down.
I use the word self because we're in
the house of Allah.
Okay?
Go. Just take your broke self and sit
down. Okay. When we call you, it'll be
like a favor we do to you to
let you onto this
plane. Why? Because that's whatever. But some some
people, they roll in. They bypass all the
lines. This, that, and the other. 1st class.
Forget about that. Someone has their own private
jet. Somebody has this. Somebody has that. Can
you imagine the Oumu Kiama? Right? What's more
What's gonna be more difficult? The Oumu Kiama
or the airport?
Can you imagine what type of first class
person this is going to be that is
continuously continuously
what?
It's continuously,
performing Hajj and Tal Yom Qiyamah.
What type of first class like treatment they're
going to come through and cut through line,
and the angels are like pushing people out
of the way, make way for this person,
what type of that person will have that
literally, they'll cross the Sirat like bark, like
lightning.
Literally, the hadith says lightning. The fastest thing
in the physical universe is the speed of
light. Literally, it says that they'll cross like
bark. They'll they'll cross the Sirat like lightning.
They'll enter into Jannah without,
without all of the other difficulties other people
need to make. On that day, the $7,000
was a pretty good deal. People would be
like, you know what? I had $7,000. I
wasted it on like Starbucks. You know, I
mean, like,
those are the good ones, man. Those are
the good ones. People spending their money on
haram things at least, you know, as much
as you don't buy the bacon sandwich or
whatever, you're you're you're more or less good,
Masha'Allah.
Right?
What person would have It depends on how
your perspective is. If you're looking at the
the the situation like a like a like
an animal, like a like a horse, or
like a dog, or a donkey, or
a bugle,
what do they call it? A mule. Right?
And that's how you're gonna see it. If
you're looking at it like a reptile saying,
interesting. I'm just gonna, like, eat this bunny
rabbit and go to sleep for a week.
I'm not interested in all of this other
spiritually stuff you're talking about. It doesn't appeal
to me. What you're not gonna wanna you're
not gonna wanna do any of those things.
The patience that a person has to have
is that they have the knowledge in the
mind. Everyone has this knowledge now in the
mind. Even people who are not like just
tangentially listening and like texting on their phone
and things like that. Even those people have
gotten the point to like, okay. I get
it. Moana Saab this okay. You know, do
stuff that is good for and stuff in
the dunya. Just be a little patient about
doing it in the right way. We get
the we get the message.
What about the Sahaba Radhi Wa Ta'ala Anhul?
The battle of Uhud, we talked about it
in the Jumu Khutbah for those of you
who are here.
One of the things that happened in the
battle of Uhud was there was a
a a moment that the the Muslims had
to retreat.
And there was a moment at which the
kuffar used the stratagem that caused chaos in
their ranks. It broke their broke their ranks
apart.
And the claim was made by the mushrikeen,
which is what? That we killed the we
they say we killed Muhammad alaihi sallatu We
killed the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
And that that news spread in the army.
And there were some people
who what do you know about the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam? What do we know
about the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam? He
is the greatest namah Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
gave to this world.
What do you know about the namah of
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam? Yeah. I
guess if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't
be Muslim or whatever. Right? No. He's the
greatest nama Allah ta'ala gave to this world.
He's the greatest nama Allah ta'ala gave to
this world.
If he had shaitan himself had said Muhammad
or Rasool Allah, Allah ta'ala would have forgiven
him his his sins and let him into
Jannah.
It's only because of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam that any of us
are. Even like in the same universe as
the the the father and the rahma, the
mercy of Allah subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
We don't quite understand that.
We're trying our best.
We're like the remedial class.
Okay? We didn't
learn math very well.
We're not gonna get into engineering. We're not
gonna get into computer science. We're sure as
heck not getting into medical school. Somehow we
got into university. The most we can think
about is, like, you know, getting a degree
in drama or something like that.
That's it. That's all that's all we're because
what? That's like a whole thing that's like
blocked off for us, but at least we're
on the campus. So let's talk about their
soul sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Let me tell
you, there are people who understood
the qadr of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam much more than we did. And those
people were who? The sahaba radiAllahu ta'ala anhu.
Their love for him was something that we
can't imagine, we cannot describe.
Imagine we cannot imagine, we cannot describe.
Said, Umar
His iman was such that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam said, if there were to be a
nabi after me, it would have been Umar.
Meaning what?
Our Usui theorists of the law, they say
that there is a potentiality in a person
that they can be a Nabi.
There are certain people from the Ummah that
have that inside of
them. The only reason they're not a Nabi
is because Allata didn't choose them for it.
Just like there are certain lawyers that know
the law so well, they could have been
a judge. But if they're never appointed, then
there's no case to rule on.
Right? This is this is by the way,
this is not like some sort of bogus,
like, someone made this up, like, theory type
thing. If you look in the tafsir of
Surat Luqman, this is exactly what happened with
Sayna Luqman
That he was a a herder. He was
a herder. Basic basically a slave herder of
Banu
Israel, but he was a pious man and
he was a learned man. So much so
that even though the rabbis of Banu Israel
used to go to him and ask him
for his judgments and to explain things about
the law that they didn't understand.
And so what happened is the angel Jibril
came to him and offered him that Allah
Ta'ala offers you is he's so pleased with
you that he offers you prophethood.
He says, is it an offer? Do I
have a choice in it or is it
a command from Allah ta'ala? He says, no.
It's it's an offer
out of Allah's love for you.
And he said, I in that case, I
turn it down.
Because Allah Ta'ala, people he loves the most,
those people are tested the most, and I
don't I don't know if I have it
in me to be able to deal with
all of that difficulty.
And so the angel Jibril came back to
him and said Allah ta'ala is pleased with
your wisdom.
So you fought before saying something.
With us, we'll be like, yeah, man. I
knew it. I knew it, son. I was
in Tarabi every night of the month, man.
I knew I cried. It was awesome.
At the khatam, I'm so pious. And now
look at me. I'm a Nabi.
Right? No.
Right? He's smart. He's like that's like a
lot of difficulty to go through.
Allah to a'la send to say to Jibril
alayhi salam 2nd
time. And said Allah is pleased with the
fact that you thought before before, you know,
opening your mouth. He's very pleased with that,
and And he gifts you,
he gifts you because of his pleasure with
you,
such a wisdom that it will be, it
will be something remembered by the ages.
So
has the capacity inside of him, Allah ta'ala.
Nabi salallahu alaihi wa sallam, what does he
bring witness to? He says, if there was
to be a nabi after me, it would
have been who? It would have been Umar
radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu.
Said
no Umar radiAllahu anhu. The shock was so
great when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
actually died.
The shock was so great, the only person
could get him to get a control, get
get a hold on himself who was Abu
Bakr
That's the only one person. Only the only
one person who has a higher rank than
him in this ummah, he's the only one
person who could get him to get a
grip on himself again. So imagine in the
field of battle
in the field of battle, what must have
been going through the minds of
the Sahaba When they heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wa Salam that the mushrike killed him.
Him. There are some people what did they
do? They literally they broke down. They just
that's it. They couldn't do it anymore. It
was was too much for them. That's it.
They lost everything to them.
People might say, like, oh, that's bogus. They
should've kept
fighting. You know why you would've and I
would've kept fighting?
Because we don't have the with the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam like that. We don't
have the connection with him
like that. To us like our food and
drink and becoming a doctor and all this
other jazz, this is way more important to
us than the rasoolallahu alaihi wa sallam. That's
just
something we do on the side. We're the
public that goes to 2nd Jummah because the
first one is a little inconvenient for us.
Those people, why did they do that? It's
because he was everything to them. They were
completely broken inside.
Then there were a set of
who said what?
That if if he's not here anymore, it
doesn't mean that his cause isn't here. We're
gonna keep we're gonna keep doing this. We're
gonna keep doing this. Both of them, there's
so much khair in them, but which group
is superior to the other one?
Which group is superior to other one?
It's a it's a second group. The one
who,
kept going.
Allah ta'ala praises them in
his
book.
He
says,
Muhammad
is
not but a messenger. And there were other
messengers who came from before him.
If you should die or should be killed,
will you then * tail? Will you turn
on your heels, turn the other way and
start running?
Right?
If you tuck tail and run away, it's
not gonna hurt Allah to Allah. It's not
gonna harm Allah to Allah in the least.
But Allah to Allah will what? Allah to
Allah will reward those people who are thankful
to him. The ones who keep going, the
ones who keep Oh my goodness. This is
happening and that's happening. And we have to
this, and we have to that, we have
to
that. Allah is not harmed by any of
these things.
If
if the if the thing that the the
things that are making it difficult for us
to be Muslims and difficult to be alive,
some of
us. Someone, you know, Khas, you're struck from
the roles of healthcare and you now have
this debilitating disease you can't pay for or
whatever. Some people, it's difficult just for them
to be alive.
If you tuck, tail, and run, give up
in that that that fight.
If your fight is just to be alive,
that is your deen.
That is your tasawuf. That is your saluk.
That is your path to Allah subhanahu
That's your dhikr. That's your love of Allah
and His rasul sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Some
people, all it is is just to stay
alive, keep their family alive, put bread on
the on the table, put food on the
table. If you give up in any of
these struggles, if you give up in any
of these struggles, you tuck tail and you
run, doesn't harm Allah to Allah in one
bit.
Doesn't harm Allah to Allah in the least.
The problem doesn't harm Allah to Allah, and
you're giving up and bailing
out and just bouncing, disappearing.
Doesn't harm Allah in the slightest.
Allah will reward the people who are thankful
difficulty is.
No soul will die. No life will be
extinguished.
No soul will die
except for
by the permission of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
at a fixed prescribed time. That's it.
Whoever wants good you know, whoever wants the
reward of this world, we'll give it to
him. The Kafir doesn't care about Yomukriyama, we'll
give him from the dunya.
And whoever wants the reward of the hereafter,
we'll give we'll give him from
it as well. And we will what? We'll
reward the people who are people of patience.
Wa ta'ala So how many how many
how many
a prophet,
how many of a prophet had to go
literally fight in the path of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala,
and and with with him are many many
people who fought with him.
They what?
That those people, so many of them fought
with the prophet salaamu alayhi wa sallam
when calamity struck them.
Calamity strikes us. Someone's is being burned down.
Somebody's
child becomes sick. I just heard there's an
alim, Sheikh Amer Saeed in in Chicago.
I just heard right now, he received the
news that that, his son got leukemia just
a couple of days ago.
Everybody,
Muhammad
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam ajma'in.
Make du'aaf inshaAllah when you remember. Make du'aaf
for for for this child and
in their
struggles. These things happen.
These things happen. You can't just you can't
just like
flake out when something like that hap these
things happen. Allah chooses that somebody will be
happy in this day, and somebody will be
going through difficulty.
And he was so merciful that he told
us, when you're happy, what are you supposed
to do? What's the procedure? And when you're
going through difficulty, what's the procedure? These things,
they all happen.
What is the what is the the the
adjective that describes the people of Allah
Allah That the nabi and the people who
go out in the path of Allah with
them.
That whatever afflicts them, whatever strikes them, whatever
hits them, whatever hurts them, whatever causes them
pain, whatever sets them back, whatever takes their
power and completely destroys it,
whatever. There were there's so many heartbreaks in
this Muslim, umrah right now.
There are so few people even to feel
the pain. Someone said, I don't wanna watch
the news because it's too much for me.
Don't you know feeling the grief of the
ummah of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
itself is a sign of being a wali
of Allah?
Don't you know feeling the grief of the
ummah of Sayyidina Muhammad
is a sign that Allah loves you?
Nobody felt the grief of this ummah more
than the Prophet
did. He was shown from the beginning to
the end. Everything that would happen, it caused
him to weep.
It caused him to weep uncontrollably sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam. Despite him being more in control
of himself than anyone ever was, is, or
will be.
You see whole nations
fall in front of, of And completely descend
into chaos in front of your
eyes. What happened? We have to follow the
sunnah of the people before us who Allah
ta'ala guided us, who Allah ta'ala guided. Those
people, what happened when they were afflicted, when
these things, these huge calamities and setbacks happened
to them?
What did they do?
That they didn't weaken. They didn't become like,
like, you know, like, paralyzed by cowardice.
Right? I have right right here in front
of me. Right? The tafsir of
of. Right?
They didn't they didn't become cowards because, oh,
look, we got hit really
hard. If you are 2 punches away from
your death,
and you know it,
in that
whatever, 15 seconds before you're about to clock
out from this dunya,
you don't need to be afraid of anything.
You don't need to be afraid of anything.
They're not people. They didn't be They're not
cowards because of what happened to them. Oh
my God. This happened. Now I just learned
my lesson that I'm not gonna worry about
Allah ta'ala, and now I'm gonna fear these
people from the dunya. No. What is it?
They didn't become cowards because of the thing
that afflicted them in the path of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
nor did they become weak that they gave
up the fight.
What is he said
from struggling. They didn't become so weak that
they gave up the fight. Someone's here's jihad.
Oh my gosh. He's talking about, oh my
goodness. No. Jihad means to struggle. That's also
a very superlative example of struggle. There are
other struggles people go through
as well. Big people have big struggles. We're
little people. We have small struggles. You don't
give up.
Just because something happens not according to what
you want, you don't ever give up. You
don't even you know, you don't ever give
up the fight. Even if you know you're
gonna lose, you don't it's not it's not
part of your with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
that you give up.
This is something even a dog. Imagine a
dog. Is it if someone called you a
dog, you'd be like, okay, this guy doesn't
like me. Right? This person doesn't like me.
Even a dog a dog if it gets
skinned alive, if the master is there, I've
seen it before. There's some,
you know, Burlington Coat Factory. They were importing
dog skin jackets, like, in the nineties or
whatever. They showed it was one
of the most horrible things I ever saw.
They showed videos of them. They skinned the
dog alive because somehow the the the the
skin is, like, more
manufacturable like that. And the dog has so
much respect for the master who's skinning it
alive to make a jacket out of it
that it stays standing
is a dog.
This is not a human being. This is
not somebody who expects to go to Jannah.
This is not somebody who thinks that they're
a wali of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. This
is not somebody who thinks that they have
some sort of or whatever. This is what?
It's a dog.
Even if you know you're going to lose,
you don't you don't give up.
Meaning, they don't give up the struggle ever.
They never what? What does He said,
They never what? They never, were humbled in
front of their their adversary.
And our adversaries are many. Some of them
are people, some
dunya, if it's your own capris, if it's
your own nafs, whatever your your adversary is,
these are people Allah didn't make the
We did not send the Quran down on
you so that you should be a wretched
person.
And this deen, and this book of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, and the teaching of this
Nabi salallahu alayhi wa sallam, there's so much
honor, there's so much dignity, there's so much
there's so much, respect in it. What what
do we know?
That those people, even even when they were
afflicted at a superlative affliction,
they didn't what? They didn't
kneel and bow in front of their in
front of their enemies. They didn't weaken in
front of their enemies. The enemy didn't look
in their eye and say that See in
their eye the look that you're broken now.
That's not that's not how we roll. Why?
What did the the the the sorcerers of
Firaun say?
He said, I'm gonna cut your right arm
and your left leg off and I'm gonna
crucify you. Does that sound like a very
pleasant experience to anybody?
It's horrible.
It is utterly horrible. And he is he
will make it
happen. What did they say? These are not
people who are and scholars. People have been
making zikr for the last 40 years until
they become like light and everybody walks by
them and makes tova. These are people who
are basically riffraff low life type people. They
just accepted iman, like, 10 minutes ago.
What did they say? He said, do whatever
you want. This is just a rational thing.
It's not even a sign of piety. It's
just a sign your brain is working. Do
whatever you want. Make whatever decision you want
to make.
The only decision you make is in this
dunya. Because you don't there's no pyramids in
the akhirah. Nobody cares about what you have
to say in the
akhirah. There's no,
there's no parliament and congress and republican party
and democratic party in the akhirah. Whoever was
righteous from those people, Allah will reward them
for their righteousness. And whoever whoever was a
a a tahut and whoever is jibbed in
this dunya, Allah will give them what they
have coming to them on that day, but
nobody will have their mansib. There'll be no
king, no president, doctor, shocker, owner, manager,
MVP,
slam dunk with your tongue in your mouth
or outside of your mouth for those of
you who are old enough to remember that.
None of that stuff is going to exist
on
that
day. Do whatever you want. I'm gonna die
anyway. Even if we win this thing, we're
all gonna die. I beat the sickness. I
win the battle. I whatever. Build the mustard.
All this stuff. We're still all gonna die.
Even if it doesn't if it doesn't happen,
if it does all of us are gonna
clock from this dunya at one point.
Those are very beautiful insight from those people.
So do make whatever decision you want to.
The only place that you have some
place to make decision is what? In this
and the life of this world.
Don't grovel in front of don't grovel in
front of, of your enemies.
If you did something wrong, then you should
say, I'm sorry.
If you're on the path of the hut,
then don't ever grovel in front of your
enemies. Whether it be your own desires,
whether it be the love of this dunya,
whether it be your sometimes sometimes it's in
a very strange way.
It's the people that you should expect love
from.
Whoever
is there to oppose you in your path
to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. I mean, if
it's your parents, you can't just be like,
I hate you. I'm out of here. Right?
It's a really unique because what? Is very
powerful. Your parents are powerful. Your children are
powerful. Your neighbors are powerful. Your relatives are
powerful. All of us, are very lucky that
our parents are very supportive. But there are
some people that don't have this,
this this this support. Whatever the whatever the
case may be whatever the case may be,
don't grovel in front of your enemy.
It's not becoming of a person who believes.
It's not what is iman? It's that you
know
that all of this is going to be.
This is all gonna be in your account
one
day. You know, being humble is a really
good thing in this deen.
Being humble is good thing in this deen,
most of the time. Being humble in front
of falsehood, being humble in front of sin,
there's no in it. Allah ta'ala hates the
person who's humble in front of falsehood, just
like he hates the person who's
who whose pride prevents them from following the
haqq.
There's a lot more I wanted to talk
about, but you've been a very patient people.
I want you to do me a favor
if this is an interesting and important topic
for you. There's obviously the route. You can
sign up and study in Madrasah if that's
what, you know, you want to go through.
The other thing that you can do that
will help you with this is read the
stories of the
but try to think of the concepts
like and patience. Think of them and analyze
the stories of the Sahaba
And really the stories of people in the
history of Islam.
Through what the lens of what?
That this is the only way that you're
going to make anything. This is the only
way you're going to get barakah. And
reevaluate who's the winner and who's the loser.
Reevaluate who's the winner and who's the loser.
Right? Muslims used to used to live in
Spain. Right?
Don't live there anymore, do they?
The Spanish inquisition, it was a holocaust. Muslims
and Jews because of their protection from the
Muslims.
So many 100 of 1000, if not millions
of them were killed, deported, genocide, all of
that.
Who won?
Whoever says
that person won.
Hussein who was killed in Karbala, Gulman.
No crime whatsoever. He was killed by, you
know, he was he was killed. Why? Because
he was going to meet the Muslims in
Kufa.
Who who who lost?
Not him because he was doing anything wrong.
Every single struggle and trial and tribulation, when
you see somebody even amongst the people who
are alive today.
Right? This happened. There was a brother, he
was driving a car on his way to
to go to go to,
meet with the Hajj group that that he's
going to. On the way back, the car
got struck and it's completely destroyed.
Was that a good thing or a bad
thing?
Absolutely wonderful.
For Hajj. There are people who spend their
nights. They make tajjud, they spend their nights
making dua for things like this.
Literally, there are people who make their dua
as what? This hadith of the prophet salallahu
alayhi wa sallam, forget about the car. The
person who asked Allah with sincerity,
that Allah take them as a as a
shahid.
That Allah take them from this world as
a martyr, that I should die in the
path of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Allah ta'ala
will write for them the the reward of
being a shahid even if they die in
their bed of old age.
Which one of you is man enough to
make dua offer for that from Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala?
The sisters are probably even more man than
you.
Which one of you has has the guts
to in your heart, reach down in your
heart and say, yeah
Allah, make from your father and from your
karam, make it me.
Which one of you, when you hear the
news of things like this, you won't be
shaken. You won't grovel in front of your
in front of your own weakness.
Which one will we say? This is this
is a person Allah accepted them. Allah accept
me like this as well. Allah
give all of us
