AI: Summary ©
Come come forward, fill the gap, sit as
far as you can in front. There's actually
a space in the front row, you're not
gonna get this jumah back.
All praises to Allah.
All praises to Allah.
All praises to Allah who guided us to
this, who guided us to Islam,
and to iman, and to his Mubarak house
on this Mubarak hour, of this Mubarak day,
of this Mubarak month, and we were not
to be guided. Was it not that Allah
had guided us?
Oh Allah, to you is praised as His
commensurate with the majesty of your countenance and
the greatness of your authority.
Oh Allah, we do not limit you with
any praise we can come up with ourselves,
rather we admit that you're the only one
who knows the true extent of your praise
worthiness.
And may the peace and blessings of Allah
be upon his servant and messenger,
our master, Saydna Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
May the peace and blessings of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala be upon him and upon his
noble companions and upon his pure wives and
upon his Mubarak
and blessed family, and progeny, and upon all
of those who follow all of their way
until the day of judgment.
Amabad.
It's a hadith narrated by Sayna Abu Bakr
Siddiq radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu
that there are certain deeds in the day.
If you did them in the night, Allah
Ta'ala would not accept them, but they're deeds
of the day. And there are certain deeds
of the night,
if you did them in the day,
Allah would not accept them. The is toward
what? That there's a time for everything.
There's a time for everything.
This is something that's somewhat lost upon us
because we live a very unnatural life.
We live a life in which Taco Bell's
drive through is open till 3 in the
morning, and pharmacies and Walmarts are open 24
hours a day, and you can do whatever,
pay a bill online whenever you like, and,
there's really no curfew or stricture regarding
what to do at what time. In fact,
every one of us wishes to believe that
we are free to do whatever we want,
whenever we want. Whereas, in fact, this freedom
is an illusion,
and not only is it an illusion,
if somebody does things at any time, whatever
they like at any time, This is not
order. This is chaos, and this is anarchy.
This is not something beneficial to us either.
The idea may be that, fine, a person
has some leeway in order to choose what's
best for them, But the fact of the
matter is you still have to file your
taxes on tax day. You still have to
pay your fines and your tickets on time
unless you want to get your
your
driver's license suspended
and your car registration suspended.
You still have to pay your taxes on
your house on time unless you want a
lien to be put against your house and
your house to be auctioned off. There's a
time and place for everything.
What is what is it about the din
that we
should know regarding the times
and regarding the deeds and the the the
the correspondence and the the tadaluk and the
the connection
between different deeds and different times. What is
it that we need to know in order
to get those things taken care of in
a proper way? Because indeed this hadith of
Sayna, Abu Bakr is
a very clear indicator that there are certain
deeds for certain times, and there are other
things that if you did them at the
same time, it wouldn't be the same.
A person should go and learn earn a
livelihood at a certain time. A person should
go and
go to the masjid for at a certain
time. It's not sufficient for a person to
show up anytime before comes in and reads
salatul dhuhr, or to read 2 raka'as, and
they'll receive the same reward. In fact, this
is even an issue with the the congregational
prayers. There's a difference of opinion amongst the
ulama.
The majority opinion amongst the ulama is that
it's even to make a second jama'ah, to
make a second congregation in the in the
masjid. If you come for the congregation,
you come for the congregation.
Afterward, if you come to the masjid, it's
obviously a difference of opinion, but it's,
the majority of the ulama say what? Say
that if you come late, if you missed
the congregation,
even if there's 2 of you or 3
of you, you should pray separately.
Why? Because the congregation in which you were
going to receive the reward in the masjid
is over now.
The Muslims had a jama'a time, and you
missed it. And if you make a second
jama'a, what do you do? You make itirab
inside of the masjid. It's a disturbance inside
of the masjid, and it takes away and
it detracts from
the the reward and the incentive for people
to attend the first jama'ah.
And so many of the ulemas say that
it's makru. The point of mentioning this is
not necessarily to enforce one opinion over the
other, rather to let you know that there
are so many there's so many issues in
the deen that have to do with time,
doing the right thing at the right time.
Some of them have to be do not
even with doing anything, just being at the
right place at the right time. You're sitting
in salatuljumu'ah.
Everything else in this Mubarak hour is haram.
Everything else except for being in salatuljumu'ah
or coming to salatuljum'ah
is haram. So much so to the point
that many of the ulama say that, business
transactions that are conducted in this hour are
invalid. Not only are they haram, they're invalid
and they're legally unenforceable in court. Why? Because
this time, you have to be here. If
a person is in Arafat, even for the
twinkling of an eye, during the day of
Arafat,
this is called Hajj. If a person is
not in Arafat,
at that time, no Hajj even if they
stone whatever they stone, and they make so
much of the Kaaba or whatever they make
of. Even if they go between and
not 7 times, 700 times, it's still not
Hajj.
If a person is there even for the
twinkling of an eye, even if they don't
make any dua, even if they don't pray
salat, still the hajj is valid. On that
day, if there there any other day of
the year, it doesn't count. It doesn't count,
brothers and sisters. So a person has to
be very careful. A person has to be
acutely aware of what time it is right
now, what time it is right now. Not
the time that's on your clock, the time
that's on your watch. The time that's on
your watch may help you understand in a
greater sense what time it is right now,
but when I say what time it is,
I mean in an organic sense and in
a spiritual sense with regards to you as
a piece of the functional universe, what your
place is, what your job is, what your
role is, what's expected of you, not just
by yourself,
but also by your creator jalla,
also by those who have a right over
you by your parents, by your children, by
your family. What is the time right now?
We need to look and see what is
the time. We need to look at our
spiritual clock and see right now what is
the time. And brothers and sisters, the time
right now is a time unlike other times.
It is a time unlike other times.
We finished the 16th Tarawi last night, and
today is the 16th day of Ramadan.
We have very few days left until the
last 10 days of Ramadan.
Ramadan, in general,
is a very special time in the year,
which goes without saying, and even if we
didn't,
we've given so many and so many lectures
regarding it up until this date.
The last 10 days of Ramadan, brothers and
sisters, are very special time. They are a
very special time. The nights of those last
10 days are the holiest nights of the
entire year. According to the ulama, they are
the holiest nights of the entire year, and
they're different nights. They're not nights like other
nights. These are nights if you work overtime
and get paid more at your job,
you will lose. These are nights in which
you sleep through them. If we sleep through
them, you will lose. If we work through
them, we will lose. If we watch TV
through them, we will lose.
If we listen to music through them, we
will lose. If we go to iftar parties,
and chat nice things with our friends, with
our wonderful friends, masha'Allah. We will lose. If
we skip Tarawi in these nights, what will
we do? We will lose. Allah
His 2 hands are are open and he
spends and he gives to whoever he wishes
to. By by by day and by night,
but especially in these 2 in these 10
nights. These are the 10 nights that literally
there's a night amongst them that is known
as the night of Qadr, the night of
destiny,
the night that destinies are changed and destinies
are written for people. If a person
blows through these and hangs out with friends
and family and good times and good food
and chitchat and,
catching up on rest because it's good for
your health, Trust me, stress is not a
bad thing. Being stressed for 365 days a
year will probably send you to the ER.
Being stressed for a couple of days, for
a week, for 2 weeks of your life,
it's not a bad thing. Losing sleep for
2 weeks of your life, it's not a
bad thing. Actually, it's a good thing. It's
good for you even from a,
even from a biological perspective.
Right? The bodies are made to go through
cycles or in times of stress and of
relaxation, of hunger and of satiety,
of of of of sleeplessness
and of of sleeping properly. It's not going
to harm you. Rather, there's a benefit in
it for you physically as well. Even if
there wasn't a benefit for you physically in
it, there's still a benefit for you spiritually
in it. And what does that spiritual benefit
have to do with? It has to do
with your everlasting
life and salvation,
your immortality in the hereafter.
Immortality is promised to every single one of
us. We're the ones who choose whether that
immortality will be in Allah ta'ala's blessing or
in the fire,
These are the nights when a person can
get their neck freed from the chains that
will bind them to the fire. May Allah
ta'ala
show such generosity upon every one of us
and upon all of those that we love.
Say, Ameen.
Allah ta'ala give us this generosity. These are
the 10 nights to do it in. That's
why we're talking about the 10 nights before
the 10 nights come in. Because if you
talk about it while the 10 nights are
in, what's going to happen? You've already missed
a piece. And even if you even if
you start at that time, you will start
off slow and then you'll ramp up by
the time you're in the zone. The the
10 nights will be over and we'll be
celebrating Eid, and it's going to go back
to normal for many of us. May Allah,
subhanahu wa ta'ala, make our life after Ramadan
better than what it was before Ramadan.
What are the sunun of the prophet
specifically
in these 10 nights? Okay. We know. Okay.
I should probably read more Quran. I should
probably read more salat. I probably shouldn't watch
as much TV. Okay? I'm telling you brothers
and sisters, there are several very simple and
practical things that you can do.
First, starting from the sunnah of the messenger
of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam,
the greatest sunnah with connection with these 10
nights has to do with Laylatul Qadr. What
is Laylatul Qadr? And Allah says,
We mentioned this before.
The munasaba for the revelation of this surah
is that the messenger of Allah sallallahu
alaihi wasallam,
described a person from Banu Israel
who continuously
for 80 days or sorry, for 80 years,
he continuously made jihadfi sabiillah during the day,
and he stood in the night in prayer
and in worship continuously.
Continuously for what? For 80 years. The sahabah
radiAllahu ta'ala, in whom they knew the life
expectancy of
very few of them would be that much
from birth until death, and the ability to
make jihad fee sabiullah for that amount of
time was almost impossible for them.
And the ability to pray all night, every
night was almost impossible for them. What did
they feel? They didn't say, oh, that's interesting.
I'm sure he was a wonderful guy. I'm
sure he was an interesting guy. I'm sure
he was he was a a very religious
person. Next. No.
They felt sad. There's a sadness inside of
their hearts that we wish we could do
something like this for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's
sake as well. We wish we could make
a sacrifice like this for the sake of
Allah ta'ala as well. We wish we had
80 years that we could devote to the
service of the deen of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala to make sacrifice by the day
and devotion by the night. We wish we
had that, but none of us are going
to live that long.
Not not none of us are going to
have this opportunity or very few of us
are going to have this opportunity, if any
at all.
And so what happens is Allah
sends down this Surah.
Is better than what? Than a 1000 months.
Now if you stick it into your calculator
or for those of us who
learn math as children, if you divide,
1,000 by 12, you come out to 83
and a third. Right? You come out to
slightly more than than 80. This is a
beautiful custom. This is a beautiful custom of
the Muslims, and it's something that comes to
our civilization. If you go to the Muslim
world and buy something, say, I want a
kilo kilo of apples or I want a
kilo of rice, what will happen is that
the person who's selling you the the the
the apples or the rice, he will he
will put a kilo into the scale pan
until it just goes
even, and then he'll throw, like, another small
apple in just to tip it over, just
to know, He's
not on the short, and to show that
there's barakah in transacting honestly.
Allah didn't give 80 years, he says here's
3 and a half years also on top
of it.
This is what Laylatul Qadr. Now Laylatul Qadr
was shown to the messenger of Allah Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam what day it was or at
least how to find that day. There's a
difference of opinion about the
what day is it? Is it even a
fixed day or does it move throughout the
year? Does it move throughout the odd nights?
Does it move throughout the last 10 nights?
Allah knows best. The messenger of Allah sallallahu
alaihi wasallam was shown that night.
And then due to the bickering of people,
that night was lifted away from him. The
knowledge of which night it is was lifted
away from him. It was taken away from
him, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. But perhaps in
that lifting and that taking away is also
a blessing for this ummah as well. The
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam was
very avid to find this laylatul Qadr.
And in order to find this laylatul Qadr,
in this avidness, what did he do? He
instituted a beautiful sunnah.
That sunnah is something that he made.
He didn't leave it until the end of
his life.
That sunnah is what? Is to make a
tikaf,
to stay inside of the masjid from the
time of sunset
on the last day of or sorry, on
the,
21st of Ramadan.
Right? In the time of sunset, not on
the time of the on the day of
20th, but the 21st of Ramadan, and to
stay there until when? Many people think it's
until the time the moon is sighted. It's
not until the moon is sighted or until
Maghrib on the last
on the last,
fast day.
That is the minimum amount. If a person
makes a vow, for example, if a person
makes another that I will I swear by
Allah ta'ala, I will,
you know, make it atikaf,
in the last 10 nights, then that person,
they've completed their minimum obligation, and they've stayed
inside of the masjid for their minimum obligation
of.
But the sunnah of the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam is that he would read
salatul fajr in the masjid. He would stay
there even on the night of Eid, the
night before Eid, and then he would go
straight from there to the salatul Eid,
aid, for reasons we will talk about next
week, inshallah.
But this is the sunnah of the Messenger
of Allah, salallahu alayhi wasalam, and it's a
very beautiful sunnah. This sunnah of staying 10
days inside of the masjid is a sunnah
of the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam, and it's a very beautiful sunnah. He
only left the sunnah at the
one one one year after the legislation of
Ramadan.
And that 1 year, he made up the
leaving of that in the last year of
his life. He actually made it for 20
days. Alright. And the ulama say that what?
He was making it making up the 10
days that he missed. This is a sunnah
of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam.
Perhaps there are certain ears when they hear
that, they say, Oh, it's not a fard.
Next.
But what is the sunnah of the Messenger
of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam?
Say, if you love Allah Ta'ala, say, oh
Muhammad, alaikas salatu was salam, say to the
people, if you love Allah ta'ala, then follow
me so that Allah may love you. If
you wish Allah ta'ala to love you, you
follow who? The Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
If you wish to love Allah, then our
neighbors in the churches around us also love
Allah. Maybe some of them love him more
than we do actually.
Then the synagogues are filled with people who
love Allah ta'ala.
Then there are many people who have no
religion or who are mushrikeen who love Allah
sub
Allah The idea is that you must love
him and he must love you as well.
If you love him and you're sitting in
a bubble and you're angering him the entire
time, what's the benefit? What's the point? The
Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says to
Anas bin Maqar Radhi Allah Ta'ala Anhu,
Oh my dear son, know that this is
my sunnah and whoever loves my sunnah, that
person loves me.
And the one who loves me, that person
is with me in jannah. He didn't say
that the one who loves me is the
one who wears a certain type of clothing
or that does a certain action or that
says a certain thing or celebrates a certain
holiday. He didn't say that the one who
loves me is the one even that says
the
He says, he's the one who loves my
sunnah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Even if those
other things may be true, but what's the
one thing that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam wanted to emphasize?
If you love the Messenger of Allah salallahu
alaihi wa sallam, you will follow his sunnah.
If you follow his sunnah, you will be
with him in Jannah. It's a case closed.
You have spared yourself from years of study
of the sharia, of the tafsirah of the
Quran, of the hadith of the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam. You have understood
encyclopedic
volumes of knowledge in just one sentence if
you can understand what this concept is. So
when we say it is the sunnah of
the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
to stay these 10 days in iatikaf,
that means what? That means everything.
Not just for for the entire sunnah, but
that means what? It means everything. That means
in these 10 days, there is nothing more
beloved to Allah and His Rasool Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam. There's no bill nothing more beloved to
them. Anyone who can take care of their
family, anyone who can pay their minimum bills,
anyone who can provide minimum food, clothing, and
shelter for his family, anyone who can ensure
themselves that they're still in a stable position
afterward,
needs to go nowhere else except for the
house of Allah ta'ala in these 10 days.
Why?
Because the sunnah of these 10 days is
what? That a person should stay in the
masjid,
the person should shut off their smartphone,
maybe leave your smartphone at home, Delete the
apps that waste our time. Delete Twitter for
for just a couple of days. Delete Facebook
for a couple of days.
Snapchat and Instagram
and BBC News and Google News and Fox
News, if some of you like to be
entertained.
You know. Delete the Fox News for 10
days. It's gonna, unfortunately,
probably be there after you're done with the
as well, so you don't need to worry
about it. Delete these
things. Right? Go into your your phone browser
and turn off you can turn off pictures,
by the way, on the phone. It's very
easy. It actually makes your you it saves
your data, and it makes your, websites boot
up a lot quicker. And it also spares
you the agony of having read, like, a
juz of Quran and then in one instant
wasting the entire
spirituality of that juz by seeing one thing
that you didn't need to see and you
didn't want to see and you weren't allowed
to see in the first place by the
Take care of all of these things and
come to the masjid. If you cannot take
10 days off, then see which days do
you have off and come to the masjid
with
the Come into the masjid before Maghrib comes
and then leave after the Maghrib of the
next day. Do that for one day, 2
days, 3 days, 4 days, 5 day, as
many days as you can. If there are
those amongst you,
people of people in school. Right? High school
kids, college kids, people, you have the day
you have the the time off. This is
one of the benefits of having
Ramadan in summer. When you have it in
summer, it's difficult because you have such long
fasts. This is one of the benefits is
that you can go and do the entire
tikaf.
Do it this year. Allah knows best if
you're gonna have the chance to do it
next year again. Do it this year. Allah
knows best if you're gonna have the chance
to do it again next year or any
other time in your life Any other time
in your life. It's very difficult to find
10 days like that straight. Take the opportunity
for those of you who are able to.
You will think I'm doing a great thing.
The reality is Allah is doing a great
thing for you. Allah has chosen you for
a great thing. This is the reality for
those of you who are able to make
it. For those of you who could not
make the entire 10 days,
Allah Ta'ala says in his book, fear Allah
Ta'ala as much as you're able to. And
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam says in
the meaning of, those things that are not
fulfilled completely also must not be left completely.
Make it to the masjid, make it to
the house of Allah ta'ala in these 10
days. It starts from the Maghrib of Tuesday.
It starts from the Maghrib of Tuesday. What
are the sunun of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam in these 10 days?
That the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam jada was shut down mizar. The Nabi
salallahu alaihi wasallam became serious.
Don't be serious all the time
that you're a person that people just for
them to look at you as a burden.
No. You don't be that serious. Rather, the
sunnah is to smile. But there is a
time to be serious also because the one
who's smiling by day night in happiness and
in sadness, that person has mental issues. People
used to think this person is out of
their mind. People used to think this person
is out of their mind. This is a
time that the sunnah is to be what?
Serious. Jada salallahu alaihi wa sallam, he became
very serious.
And then Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam used to
tighten his waistband.
There's a difference of opinion amongst the ulema
about what this means.
Right? The most apparent meaning of this is
that it's metaphorical. It means he used to
gather his courage together. He used to gather
his stamina together and he used to, and
he used to, do in this time that
which he wasn't able to do in other
times, that which he doesn't have the opportunity
to do in other times. If you normally
couldn't pray for the entire night, then pray
for the entire night. If you couldn't normally
pray for half the night, then pray for
half the night. If you normally couldn't read
a juz of Quran, 2 juz of Quran,
4 juz of Quran, 7 juz of Quran
in a night, if you couldn't normally read
1 page, then at least do that. Gather
your himma together, gather your courage together, and
do what you're not able to do in
other times.
He used to wake up his family members.
Allah ta'ala's commandment is there for every day
of the year anyway.
Command your family to the prayer and by
extension, command your family to the entire deen
and be patient in that commandment.
Don't just give up because, you know, your
kid doesn't wake up for fajr one day
or because your wife or your husband doesn't
listen to you one day. Be steadfast and
be patient in commanding them to the prayer.
In these nights, the messenger of Allah salallahu
alaihi wa sallam used to himself wake his
family up. He used to make sure that
his family used to wake up. The Messenger
of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam in these
nights had a special dua. What is the
dua of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam? The dua of the Messenger of
Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
Oh Allah, you are you are the one
who forgives and you love forgiveness. You you're
the one who forgives in such a way
that there's no nothing bad left behind.
Nothing bad left behind. Complete forgiveness. You are
the one who gives this complete forgiveness, and
you love this complete forgiveness. So give me
this complete forgiveness. Allah give all of us
this complete forgiveness.
Learn this
dua. Remember this dua. If you forget or
if you know you're going to forget, come
to me in my office afterward. I'll write
it for you in English and Arabic, whatever
you like. I'll write it for you in
Cyrillic. I'll write it for you in any
script that I know.
If nothing else, if you're trapped at work
on the night shift for every one of
these last 10 nights, if you get a
spare moment, read this dua. Say this dua
with conviction and hope from Allah Ta'ala that
he's going to forgive you. Brothers and sisters,
the last days of Ramadan have a number
of obligations. I recommend that you take care
of them sooner rather than later. Take care
of them now so that you don't have
to worry about them at that time. There
are Manila envelopes sitting on top of the
safe that are specially designated for the zakatul
fitr. The zakatul fitr is a fard for
everybody
who has the ability to pay it. According
to some of the it's farad for everybody
who has the nisab. According to some of
the it's farad for everyone who even has
the ability to pay it. It's 10, $8,
$10.
It's something that if you can give more,
you can give more because it's not a
dollar amount that's prescribed by the sunnah, but
a commodity.
And these things you're supposed to give by
the by the amount that Allah gave you.
If you're making 6 figures, you should be
paying $40 ahead for zakatul fitter.
And there's a complete tahtik about it. We
don't have time to discuss it right now
because we're going over, but you should be
paying a lot more than a normal person
does. At bare minimum, you should pay
$8,
ahead and more whatever Allah gave you, pay
more than that. You pay for yourself, pay
for your wife, pay for your children. According
to some of the you even pay for
unborn children, for a, a child that's in
the womb of its mother. Every single head,
there's
a paid for it. Even if you'll end
up paying the $10 and that's all you
have, so you'll be eligible to receive it.
Insha'Allah, don't worry. Go talk to somebody. Talk
to myself or one of the board members
privately. We'll give you back even more than
you paid. The idea is not just the
fact that you're paying a fine or whatever.
You'll get more reward from Allah out of
$8 than you will out of $800
out of any any other time of the
year. I promise you. It's a deal that's
not going to be missed. We'll talk about
it more next week. Take care of it
right now. Take care of it today. Take
care of it tomorrow. Take care of it
before the last 10 days comes in. Why?
Because you'll have other things to focus on.
It's good to buy presents for your children.
It's good to buy presents for your children.
It's good to take the day off and
have a good time on on the Eid
day. We'll talk about that later. It's good
to buy presents for your children. We'll talk
about that later. Buy the presents for your
children right now. Don't wait till the last
10 days comes in. Buy the presents for
your loved ones right now. Right? And then
don't spend a whole lot of time on
it. For For god's sakes, don't go to
the mall. If someone has a shop in
the mall, no offense. Don't go to the
mall. It's spiritually not gonna be good. For
those of you who have a shop in
the mall, probably know what I'm talking about
anyway. Go online,
buy all of the gifts within a half
an hour online. You'll probably get them cheaper.
They'll be delivered to your door. Get done
with all of it right now. Get done
with all of it right now. These last
10 days are not to be, not meant
to be squandered in the soup, in the
marketplace. They're not meant to be they're not
meant to be squandered on things that are
normally important.
If you could take time off, if you
have days off, if it's not too late,
take as if you can only just take
one more day off, take that day off.
Make it to the house of Allah Ta'ala.
May Allah Ta'ala give all of us so
much tawfiq. May Allah Ta'ala give all of
us the the the happiness of finding laylatulqadr
that we all witness it together in peace
and in harmony without any acrimony or animosity
or or grinding between one another. May Allah
give all of us the tawfiqf, finding laylatulqadr
and making this Ramadan, the time that Allah
forgives us and accepts us us so that
every other good deed that we do for
the rest of our life is just icing
on top of the cake and that we
that we we meet Allah in the state
that he's pleased with us. Allah give all
of us so much tawfiq. Wassallallahu ta'alaalawasuri
