Hacene Chebbani – What Happens When We Die

AI: Summary ©
The speakers discuss the importance of understanding death and the various stages of life, including death in modern world and the connection between death and death in modern life. They share examples of death in Islamic and English, and provide recitation and practice tips for practicing the definition of death. The discussion touches on the idea of consciousness and its connection to one's own consciousness, as well as the history of the book and its implications for how it is portrayed. The " Italian" is a difficult moment, but people should not disobey their dreams of a bird flying on a wall, and they will continue pursuing it.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen.
Assalatu wassalamu ala ashrafil mursaleen Sayyidina Muhammad wa
ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma'in.
So tonight, inshallah, we'll be talking about this
topic that we promised for a couple of
weeks.
I was not able to attend.
I was not feeling well.
But alhamdulillah, so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has enabled us to come tonight and talk,
speak about this important topic.
Do I need this one?
You can't, eh?
This one should be on, right?
This one should be enough, right?
Okay.
So we'll talk about death.
What happens when we die.
And tonight, inshallah, we'd like to focus on
some interesting stuff from religious perspective, sharia perspective,
and also we'll talk about some, the results
of some research, scientific research.
And of course we will talk about it
with precaution, with care.
We try very careful, very careful about when
discussing this subject.
Because we're talking about matters of aqeedah here.
So all these matters, you know, after a
person passes away, the moment his soul leaves
his body, so all this knowledge belongs to
ilm al ghayb.
And we have to have solid proofs and
solid knowledge about these matters.
We cannot use our own personal interpretations.
But we will try to understand, inshallah, this
topic, or at least we get an idea
about what happens when a person dies.
Now the first question is why do we
talk about death?
Why do we talk about death?
Because this is the recommendation of our Prophet
Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
So the answer came in the hadith of
Rasulallah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, in which he
said frequently, remember the destroyer of pleasures, meaning
death.
Meaning death is part of the hadith.
He used to encourage Muslims to remember the
destroyer of pleasures.
What are the pleasures?
The pleasures of this dunya.
Money, wealth, status, food, you know, anything.
Anything that we enjoy in this life, death
will destroy it because everything will finish.
It's done.
You cannot come back and do anything about
anything you had in this life.
And the purpose of this remembrance, remembering death,
when we remember death we are supposed to
be more spiritual, get closer to Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, try to improve our relationship
with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
We think about al-akhirah, we think about
jannah, about nahr, and hopefully we become better
Muslims.
But in this halaqa, as I said, we're
going to talk about al-barzakh.
But al-barzakh is a long period of
time and it depends.
Everyone will have his own time in this
al-barzakh.
It's a period of time.
It's a stage that a person goes through.
But again we're going to focus on these
moments because there is some type of consciousness
that the dead people have and we need
to pay attention to it.
And it should affect our behavior at the
time of death, when we are aware of
this type of consciousness that the dead people
have.
Yes, they live in a different dimension.
But they have their own awareness, they have
their own consciousness, and we're going to talk
about it first, as I said, from a
religious perspective.
So here we're going to deal with the
term al-barzakh, which is like a stage
or a barrier between the worldly life and
al-akhirah, the hereafter.
And al-barzakh, to the best of my
knowledge, was mentioned in the Quran in three
surahs.
Surat al-mu'minun, the one that we're going
to share with you today, ayah 99 and
100, so it was mentioned in ayah 100.
And surah ar-Rahman and maybe surah al
-furqan, if I'm not mistaken.
But the barzakh in surah ar-Rahman, it
means a barrier between the fresh water and
the salted water.
And this is, people call it a scientific
miracle because Rasulallah ﷺ had no way to
know about it at that time, he didn't
have the technology, he didn't have the knowledge
to know about it.
It was discovered in recent times, in modern
times, that there is a barrier between fresh
water and salted water, and they don't mix,
they don't mix.
And this is something scientifically proven now, right?
But here we're talking about some sort of
physical barrier, some sort of physical barrier.
The other one is surah al-furqan, I
believe is the same, it has the same
meaning like al-barzakh in surah ar-Rahman.
So these are not part of our topic
tonight.
We're talking about something here that belongs to
our life, worldly life, a barrier between salted
water and fresh water in the sea.
Al-barzakh that we talk about here is
when someone leaves this world and he lives
in a different dimension, so there is a
barrier between him and between us, those who
are alive.
We are alive, still we are the children
of this worldly life, this dunya, so when
this person dies, he moves to a different
stage.
So al-barzakh is like this period of
time that is between our worldly life, dunya,
and between al-akhirah.
So if you want to be more specific,
there are people who say every human being
passes, goes through four stages.
If you want to be more specific, the
first stage is when he is in the
womb of his mother for nine months, that
is the first stage of his life.
And then the second stage is his life
on this earth, as a human being living
on this earth.
And the third stage will be al-barzakh.
And then the last stage is al-akhirah,
and people there will be either in jannah,
or in hellfire, right?
They are either enjoying their life forever, talking
about eternity here, or they are in hellfire.
But this is the last stage, we are
not going to talk about it tonight.
We are going to talk about the time
of death, what happens during the time of
death, what does the person see, what kind
of experience he goes through.
And this is the beginning of what is
called al-barzakh.
These are the first moments, the first moment
of this stage called al-barzakh.
And as I said, this kind of barzakh
is mentioned only in one ayah, one and
then in surah, in surah al-mu'minun.
And it's an interesting ayah.
We'll talk about a possible link between this
ayah, and between the modern research about death.
Possible.
We have to be very careful.
We should approach this subject with care.
So, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said in
these two ayahs in surah al-mu'minun, still,
if someone has death, Allah says, at the
time of death, the person says, there is
an awareness, the person says, we don't hear
his words, but he says, The
answer comes from the Lord of the worlds,
no, no, it is a word He is
saying, a word, it does not mean anything,
it does not precede or delay, it does
not benefit, and from behind them is a
barrier until the Day of Resurrection, and from
behind them is a barrier until the Day
of Resurrection, this is the barrier, and from
behind them is a barrier until the So
in these two ayahs Allah said, when death
approaches them or any of them, they cry,
they cry, so they have some sort of
awareness, they are talking, they are aware of
their situation, that is why they make a
request, we are talking about the time of
death, we don't hear these people crying, we
don't hear them, but they make this statement,
because they are aware of their conditions, so
Allah saying this person at the time of
death, he will say, my Lord, my Lord,
let me go back, so I may do
good in what I have left behind, so
this person must have thought during that moment
about his life maybe, we will talk about
it, and then he felt like he is
missing something, he wants to go back to
this world and do something good, as I
said, we don't hear a statement, there is
no way for us, we don't have access
to it, because this person is leaving, it
is not a near death experience, we are
going to talk a little bit about this,
it is not a near death experience, this
person is dying, and when someone dies, he
does not come back to this life, then
Allah SWT answers their statement, it is a
general statement, general answer given to anyone who
makes this statement during the time of death,
never or nay, it is only a useless
appeal, they make, it is pointless, it doesn't
help, yes, they are making statement, making an
appeal, asking Allah to bring them back to
life, it is over, it is over, there
is no way that this person will come
back, and there is a barrier, he is
barzakh, Allah said, and there is a barrier,
a barrier behind them until the day they
are resurrected, this ayah again in surah al
-mu'minoon, chapter 23, ayah 100, so al-barzakh
is not a specific place, this is what
I want you to understand, it is not
a specific place, rather it is most likely
like a period of time, it is a
stage which every human has to experience and
go through.
There are two basic principles about this period
of time, two basic principles, so knowledge, this
is the first principle, about this period of
time belongs to what is called knowledge of
the unseen, and we have no access to
this knowledge except through authentic divine revelation, authentic
divine revelation, that means we don't get knowledge
about this period of time from fabricated or
weak hadiths, because these are matters of aqidah,
number one, we don't take knowledge about this
period of time, al-hayat al-barzakhiyah, barzakh
life, from dreams, and we don't take knowledge
about this life or period of time from
personal experiences or what we call these days
in modern times NDEs, what are NDEs?
They are near death experiences, we don't, now
when it comes to dreams, some dreams are
true, you see the dream and it comes
true, it becomes true, you are able to
see it happening in front of your eyes,
and it is haq, and it is a
message from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, but
dreams are about sending a message to a
person or to a community about something that
might happen in the future, or to give
glad tidings, good news about something that might
happen, or a warning, so we cannot, pay
attention to this, we cannot derive a fiqh
ruling from a dream, we cannot derive aqidah,
principle of aqidah from dreams, don't, you don't
take your aqidah from dreams, aqidah are matters
of iman, faith, belief, you don't take them
from dreams, we don't take any sharia ruling,
any hukm, halal, haram, mubah, mustahab, recommended, you
don't take these rulings from dreams, but dreams
might help you, someone might come in your
dream and gives you a message, this person
will give you a message, you might see
a family member in your dream, you might
see him laughing or smiling and this is
a good sign, you might see a family
member or a friend wearing white clothes, this
is a good sign that this person could
be in jannah, right?
Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam, he saw Waraq
ibn Nawfal, who was the cousin of Khadija,
who was Christian, but he died just few
days after Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam received
wahi, but he was able to talk to
the messenger of Allah and he asked him
about his experience in the cave of Hira,
and he told him this is the angel
that used to come to Musa alayhi salam
and Isa, and he said I wish I
am young when your people will remove you
from your town and they kick you out,
I will support you, which is a sign
of his iman, and Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa
sallam when he was asked about Waraq ibn
Nawfal, he said I saw him wearing white
clothes in my dream, he said if he
was in Jahannam, he wouldn't be wearing white
clothes, that was his answer alayhi salatu wasalam,
so he didn't give a final answer about
jannah or nar, but he said I saw
him in my dream wearing white clothes, and
he said if he was in Jahannam, he
wouldn't be wearing white clothes, and Allah ta
'ala, so dreams could be as I said
about personal situation, or even if it is
a communal situation, but you don't take a
ruling, you don't take a principle from dreams,
so this is the first principle, first basic
principle about the spirit of time Barzakh, belong
to ilm al ghayb, so we need ayat,
we need ahadith, we need solid knowledge to
talk about this spirit of time, the second
principle, this Barzakh life is different than our
life, so it's a different experience, you cannot
make an analogy between the two lives, you
can't, you cannot compare between our life here
on earth, and our life in al Barzakh,
and I give you like some examples from,
we'll talk about some ahadith today where the
malaika will come to the grave, and they
will talk to the person, and we know
the grave is very tight, there is no
space for him to sit down in the
grave, but the person will, the dead person
will sit down, and will have a conversation
with the malaika, but the qabr is very
tight, there is no way for him to
stand up, he can't physically, based on our
standards, the standards of our life, that's why
he cannot compare between the two lives, I
was asked one day, after a janaza, do
they feel in Cochrane, do they feel cold
weather, cold weather of Calgary, most likely not,
it's a different life, it's a different life,
they live in a different dimension, and we
have limited knowledge about their life, we're going
to share what is available for us in
the Qur'an, and the sunnah of our
messenger, salallahu alayhi wasalam, and I will share
an article, as I said, about some modern
research, but we have to be very careful
about it, and I'll make some disclaimers about
this article, I'll give you the, there are
a couple of articles, they call it the
new science of death, but I have to
make some disclaimers, and try to bring to
your attention a few things that you need
to, in case you want to read about
this subject, bi-idhnillahi ta'ala.
So now, when scientists talk about death, usually
these are the definitions they give, they said
death is cessation of the critical functions of
the organism as a whole, so everything will
cease to function, every body part, there is
no activity, or they say the permanent stopping
of all vital bodily activities, this is the
conventional definition of death, but what happened with
this research, they were surprised and amazed, they
said we discovered something else, they started talking
about this type of consciousness, at the time
of death, for a few minutes after death,
that's why it's interesting to look into this
subject, but this is the conventional, these are
conventional definitions of death, that everything will cease
to function, all activities will stop, right?
Now, what happens at the time of death
from an Islamic perspective, the best hadith would
describe this concept, or this story is the
hadith of al-Baraa ibn Azim, I want
you to memorize, and not memorize, it's a
long hadith, keep in mind this hadith, the
hadith of al-Baraa ibn Azim, collected by
Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawood, al-Hakim, Ibn Hibban,
and it was classified as sahih by Muslim
scholars, they made some interesting statements about this
hadith, the ulama, when they talked about this
hadith, they made some interesting statements, like for
example, Imam At-Tahawi, he said وذهب إلى
موجة بهذا الحديث جميع أهل السنة والحديث, so
Imam At-Tahawi said all the ulama of
Ahlul Sunnah and the ulama of hadith believe
in the content of this hadith, the hadith
of al-Baraa ibn Azim, and it's a
long hadith, so it talks about the story
of the believer, and then the story of
the disbelievers, what will happen to the believer
at the time of death, what will happen
to the disbeliever at time of death, and
we don't have time to talk about both
stories, but at least we're going to focus
on the story of the believer, but the
disbeliever has a different story, right, and this
story, as I said, was collected by Imam
Ahmed and some other scholars, and it is
a narration of al-Baraa ibn Azim, to
the best of my knowledge, he was an
Ansari, sahabi from the Ansar, he said we
went with a messenger of Allah ﷺ to
attend a janaza, to attend a funeral procession
of an Ansari man, so the deceased was
an Ansari man, he said we reached the
grave site, the cemetery, when it had not
yet been completed, they were not, the grave
was not ready, the grave was not ready
for this person to be buried, the messenger
of Allah ﷺ sat there, he sat on
the ground, waiting for the grave to be
ready, and we sat all around him, so
the sahaba made a halaqa like around the
prophet ﷺ, the story took place in this
cemetery, as if it were birds hovering above
our heads, which means he meant that we
were like paying attention to Rasulullah ﷺ, we
were all listening, we were all ears, paying
attention to what Rasulullah ﷺ would say, and
the prophet ﷺ was holding a piece of
wood in his hand, poking the ground with
it, so he was holding a piece of
wood, and he was poking the ground with
it ﷺ, maybe thinking about, Allah knows, about
death and the meaning of death and so
on, because he will be talking about this
subject, and then he said next, raise his
head, he raised his hand the sahaba, subhanallah,
were amazing when it comes to narrating the
hadith, they will give you all the details,
including the details that are not important, he
was carrying a piece of wood, poking the
ground with it, and then his head was
down, then he raised his head, these details
are not important, but this is the amanah,
this is the amanah, he tried to relay,
convey everything, give you all the details of
the story, maybe some ulema will look into
the story, and derive some rulings from it,
you know, some ahkam from it, so this
is the amanah of conveying the message, radhiallahu
anhu, and then he said twice or thrice,
he started the story by saying, استعيذ من
عذاب القبر, استعيذ من عذاب القبر, he told
the sahaba, seek refuge with Allah from the
punishment of the grave, and by the way,
ikhwan, I will give you a gift tonight,
when it comes to this issue, and I
hope inshallah that it will be very helpful
if you make it a habit, it will
help you, it will be very beneficial to
you, by the will of Allah ta'ala,
this dua, if you make it a habit,
to recite it at the end of every
salah, the ulema, majority of muslim scholars, they
said it is recommended to recite this dua
at the end of every salah, there is
one alim from Yemen, his name is Tawus,
he used to believe it's it's a must,
it's mandatory to recite this dua, and he
used to ask his children, did you recite
this dua at the end of the salah,
if his son would say no, he would
say repeat your salah, and that was like
the opinion of one single scholar, right, from
Yemen, but overwhelming majority, they don't say it's
mandatory, they say it is highly recommended to
recite this dua at the end of this
salah, so what is this dua, Allahumma in
ya'udhu bika, min azabi jahannam, wa min
azabi al-qabr, wa min fitnati al-mahya
wal-mamat mashallah, we have children here who
memorize this hadith, continue, Allahu akbar, wa min
sharri fitnati al-masih al-dajjal, so here
we are seeking refuge in Allah subhana wa
ta'ala from four things, oh Allah I
seek refuge in you from the punishment of
hellfire, and the punishment of the grave, and
trials of life and death, all trials of
life and death, because this is a general
statement, it's very beautiful, life and death, you're
being tested with your wife, children, money, wealth,
status, name it, you name it, this life
is full of tests, we are being tested
right and left, right, in this life, so
you're seeking refuge in Allah subhana wa ta
'ala from the trials of life and death,
and number four from the evil fitna of
al-masih al-dajjal, the false messiah, you
don't want to meet him, you don't want
to see him, so this arba'ah, four
things, if you make it a habit to
recite this dua inshallah at the end of
every salah, it's hadith in sahih muslim, it's
a recommendation from Rasulallah ﷺ, then inshallah you'll
be fine in the grave, and you'll be
happy on the day of judgment, this is
what we hope.
So Rasulallah ﷺ started this story by saying,
seek refuge with Allah from the punishment from
the grave, and then he said, he's talking
about the moment of death, مَعَهُمْ
كَفَنٌ مِنْ أَكْفَانِ الْجَنَّةِ وَحَنُوطٌ مِنْ حَنُوطِ الْجَنَّةِ
so Rasulallah ﷺ said, when a believing slave
is reaching the end of his term in
this life, the life of this world, he's
reaching the end, the last moment of his
life, there is something interesting that will happen,
he will see things happening in front of
his eyes, we don't see these things, but
he's able to see these things.
So he said, in the beginning of his
term in the hereafter, a group of angels
will come to him, whose faces are white
and as radiant as the sun, so their
faces are white and shiny, to give him
good news, good tidings, he'll feel comfortable with
their presence.
When ulama ask, do the people who are
passing away, all of them, do they see
the angels?
Some ulama, they said yes, they gave a
final answer, they said yes, everyone who is
passing away will be able to see these
angels.
Some other ulama, they said yes, this is
confirmed for some people, but it is not
confirmed for everyone, so Allah knows.
But the hadith is very clear, Rasulullah ﷺ
is not talking about some people, he said,
a believing slave, so this is a general
statement, this rule should apply to everyone.
I am more inclined towards the opinion of
these Muslim scholars who said, yes, every person
will see these angels, the believer and the
disbeliever.
But the disbeliever will see a different scene,
he will see a group of angels, but
their faces are dark, right?
But here the believer will see the angels
with white faces, and their faces are radiant,
are shiny, like the sun.
They will descend unto him from heaven, and
then they will carry with them a shroud
from paradise, so they will bring a shroud
from paradise.
Look at this, this is an honor that
will be given to the ruh, because in
this shroud they are not going to take
his body, the body will stay there.
We see the body in front of us,
but they will take a ruh, they come
to take a ruh, the soul of the
believing man.
He said, they will carry with them a
shroud from paradise, and fragrance from paradise, they
will sit as far from him as a
sight goes.
So, this is another statement, or part of
the hadith that shows that he will be
able to see them, see this malaika.
Then the angel of death will come until
he sits right next to his head.
The angel of death will come close to
him.
He will come beside his head, right?
He will be able to see angel of
death, but we don't see it, we don't
see him.
We don't see these things.
And then he will say, the angel of
death, he will say,
Look at this beautiful statement,
This is the way
he addressed the believer.
The angel of death will address the believer
in a very nice way.
He will tell him, Oh good and pure
soul, depart your body to Allah's forgiveness and
pleasure.
Depart your body to Allah's forgiveness and pleasure.
So giving him good news from day one,
from the first moment.
The first moment the person, the Muslim is
dying, he will receive good news about his
fate and destiny in Al-Akhirah.
قَال فَتَخْرُجُ تَسِيلُ كَمَا تَسِيلُ الْقَطْرَةُ مِنْ فِي
السِّقَاءِ فَيَأْخُذُهَا الْمَلَكِ الْمَوْتِ So he said the
soul will flow out of his body just
as the drop flows out from the tip
of a jug or the tip of a
skin water.
When the drop comes easily from a skin
water, then the soul of the mu'min will
leave in this easy way.
It's an easy way.
And the story is different for the disbeliever.
You can study this hadith.
Because we don't have time as I said
to go through the whole hadith.
It's a long hadith.
But we need to have an idea of
what happens to people when they are dying.
And the angel of death will take it,
will capture the soul.
The messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
said..
"..and when he took it, they did not
leave it in his hand for a blink
of an eye..." The angels.
"..until they took it and placed it in
that shroud..." The shroud is from Jannah.
They take the soul, not the body.
The body is with us.
"..until they placed it in that shroud and
in that jug..
"..and it came out of it like the
best breath of a poor person found on
the face of the earth..." Allahu Akbar.
"..so they ascended upon it, and none of
the angels passed by it but said, What
is this good spirit?"
So the messenger of Allah, peace be upon
him, he said..
"..when the angel of death captures the soul..."
When he captures the soul, the angels, the
group of angels..
"..will not leave it with him for more
than a second, for more than an instance."
They right away take it from him.
They take the soul from the angel of
death.
"..and they wrap it in that shroud that
they brought from Jannah."
A shroud that was brought from Jannah.
Again, we don't see these things, but these
things are happening.
Whether you are in the hospital, in a
room, or at home..
..witnessing the death of a family member.
These things are happening, we don't see these
things.
And he said, "..they wrap it in the
shroud and in that fragrance..
..and the most pleasant musk sand ever found
on earth will flow out of the soul..
..and the angels will ascend with it to
heaven."
So this group of angels will take the
soul of the believer to heaven.
And he said, they will not pass by
any group of angels..
..except that they will say, this group of
angels..
..they will say, Who is this good soul?
Who is this?
Who is this tayyib, this tayyib, or this
good soul?
"..the angels who received his soul and placed
it in that shroud..
..they will answer, they say, "..
These angels will ascend with him to the
heaven, as I said.
And then they will ask, these angels, they
will ask, who is this person?
Because the smell will be excellent, will be
amazing.
So the angels who are carrying this soul,
they will say, such person, the son of
such and such person.
Person calling him by the best names that
he used to be called in this world.
So it's an honor that is given to
this person.
Shrouding him in a shroud or a coffin
from Jannah..
..placing on him the best fragrance..
..calling him by the best names that he
used to use in this Dunya..
..and so on and so forth.
So they will take it, they will carry
it through all heavens..
..from the first heaven till the seventh heaven.
These angels will continue carrying the soul of
this person.
When they take the soul to the seventh
heaven..
So Allah SWT will say, list my servant
in the record of Aliyyin.
What is Aliyyin?
Aliyyin is a term that is found in
Surah Al-Mutaffifin.
The explanation, the tafsir of some ulama, it
is a record..
..a record to keep the deeds of pious
people and righteous people.
And it is found in the seventh, it
is placed..
..the location of this record in the seventh
heaven.
This is the tafsir of some ulama.
I don't have a hadith, I don't remember
a hadith..
..this explanation is not found in the Quran.
But the term is found in the Quran
in Surah Al-Mutaffifin.
And Allah SWT will say, send him back
to earth..
..for I have created them from it..
..and into it I shall return them..
..and from it I shall bring them out
once again.
The Messenger of Allah SAW said, So the
angels will bring the soul again into the
body.
So they will take it to the seventh
heaven.
It is a trip.
It is a beautiful trip that they will
take to the seventh heaven.
Then when Allah SWT said, take him back
to earth..
..they will bring the soul to the body
of this person.
So his soul will return to his body.
Here, at this moment..
..the next step..
..the angels will come to him..
..they will sit him..
..and they will say to him..
..who is your Lord?
So the soul will be joined with his
body again.
And the two angels will come to him..
..sit him up..
..and ask him, who is your Lord?
And the believer will say, my Lord is
Allah.
He will say Allah is my Lord.
He will say, what is your religion?
He will say, my religion is Islam.
What do you say about this man?
The imam of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Who was sent to you?
He will say, he is a messenger of
Allah.
What is your proof?
You said that, your religion is Islam.
Allah is your Lord.
Your religion is Islam.
Your Prophet is Muhammad SAW.
They will say, what is your proof?
How did you know this?
And then he will say..
..I read the book of Allah..
He will say, I read the book of
Allah..
..and I have faith..
..and I had faith and belief in it.
In the book of Allah SWT.
So he believed in the message..
..that he found in the Qur'an..
..and this is what helped him.
Most likely, it's a malak..
..an angel.
Then a caller..
..the translation..
..he said, Allah, not an angel..
..will say, will make a statement..
..a Nida from heaven..
..my servant has said the truth..
..the siyaq..
..the siyaq of the hadith..
..indicates that it is Allah SWT..
..who says this, my servant has said the
truth..
..therefore furnish him with paradise..
..or from paradise..
..let him wear from the clothes of paradise..
..and open a door for him..
..to paradise.
These things will happen in the grave.
But if you open the grave again..
..you will not be able to see these
things.
So it's a different dimension.
It's a different life.
Barzakh life.
You won't be able to see these things..
..if we open the grave..
..of someone who passed away.
So he said he will be given from
paradise..
..tranquility..
..serenity..
..tranquility..
..and good scent..
..and his grave will be expanded..
..expanded for him..
..as far as his sight can reach.
The grave will be expanded for the believer.
Again..
..if you..
..if you open the grave..
..you will see a small..
..small hufrah..
..a small grave..
..you don't see these things with your eyes.
So he said a man..
..with a handsome face..
..handsome clothes..
..whose scent is pleasant..
..will come to him saying..
..receive the glad tidings..
..with which pleases you..
..this is the day which you were promised.
A man will come to him in the
grave..
..in the grave.
فَيَقُولُ لَهُ مَنْ أَنْتَ فَوَجْهُكَ الْوَجْهُ الَّذِي يَعْتِي
بِالْخَيْرِ..
He said who are you?
Your face is a face that carries good
news.
Right?
So..
..this man will say..
..أَنَا عَمَلُكَ الصَّالِحَ..
..أَنَا عَمَلُكَ الصَّالِحَ..
This man he said..
..I am your good work..
..I am your righteous work.
So Allah SWT will turn..
..العمل الصالح..
..the good deeds of a Muslim..
..his Salat..
..his Zakat..
..his Siyam..
..بر الوالدين..
..kindness..
..good treatment of parents..
..صدقة..
..good treatment of neighbors..
..ذكر..
..قراءة القرآن..
..everything will be turned..
..into the shape of a man.
But this man..
..will have a handsome face..
..he will come to this..
..this person who passed away..
..with handsome clothes..
..with beautiful clothes..
..and then he will talk..
..speak to him..
..in a very nice way..
..and he will give him glad tidings.
So this person will know..
..about his fate from day one.
فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي..
..see the reaction of this person..
..he said..
رَبِّي أَقِمِ السَّاعَةَ..
..أَقِمِ السَّاعَةَ..
..حَتَّى أَرْجِعَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِي وَمَالِي..
He will say..
..Lord..
..hurry up with the commencement of the hour..
..hurry up with the hour..
..so I can return to my family..
..and my wealth.
So this person..
..who is in the grave..
..he wants to go to Jannah..
..he is excited now..
..because he knew..
..that he will be..
..in Jannah..
..he is excited..
..he would be asking Allah SWT..
..to start the hour..
..yeah..
..immediately. See..
..this is a story of..
..of..
..a believer..
..but..
..as I said..
..this believer..
..will have a different..
..will have a different story..
..and this is something that..
..you know..
..it's a long hadith..
..you can read it..
..by yourself..
..yeah..
..it's okay.
طيب..
..so this is a hadith..
..Hadith al-Baraa ibn Azih..
..it talks about..
..things that will happen..
..in front of a person..
..who is passing away..
..he would be able to see..
..the Malaika..
..for example Ibn Al-Qayyim..
..may Allah have mercy on him..
..Ibn Al-Qayyim is a great..
..classical scholar..
..he was a student of..
..Shaykh Islam Ibn Taymiyyah..
..made a statement..
..he said..
..so he used to believe..
..Ibn Al-Qayyim..
..that the person..
..who is dying..
..will be able to see..
..these angels..
..and he will be..
..some of the..
..he said..
..so the Malaika..
..he will be able to hear..
..their conversation..
..the person who is dying..
..but of course we..
..as I said..
..we don't see these things..
..and we don't hear..
..these things..
..so he will be aware..
..of a different..
..reality..
..this person who is dying..
..will be aware of..
..different reality..
..and is able to see..
..angels..
..around him..
..and this might happen..
..to everyone..
..I am inclined..
..towards this opinion..
..now we are talking..
..about here..
..about some sort of..
..consciousness..
..that this person..
..who is dying..
..he has this consciousness..
..but as I said..
..this consciousness..
..is not part of our..
..life on this earth..
..it's a different type..
..of awareness..
..different type of experience..
..and there are many..
..supporting proofs..
..and many of them..
..are interesting..
..supporting proofs..
..of this consciousness..
..that we are talking about..
..the first hadith..
..supporting proof..
..is about the suffering..
..of the dead person..
..when he hears..
..it's a very important message..
..to everyone..
..when he hears the screaming..
..of his family members..
..screaming..
..not shedding tears..
..not their sadness..
..not screaming..
..they are loudly..
..screaming..
..about his death..
..there are people who do it..
..especially during the first moment..
..when they hear..
..about the death of their..
..loved ones..
..some people start screaming..
..so what did the prophet say..
..in the hadith of Bukhari..
..and it's agreed upon..
..in Bukhari and Muslim..
..that the dead..
..are punished..
..by the crying of his family..
..that the dead..
..are punished by the crying of his family..
..in another hadith..
..that the dead..
..are punished..
..by what is given to them..
..interpretation of this hadith..
..that the dead person..
..feels the pain..
..feels the pain..
..because of the wailing of his..
..relatives..
..or family members..
..wailing..
..you know wailing..
..it's..
..crying..
..with a loud sound..
..in English is wailing..
..because the..
..unfortunately..
..if you check the translation..
..of this hadith..
..you will find that..
..the dead person..
..is punished..
..I'm gonna talk about it here..
..it is a discussion..
..that took place..
..during the time of the Sahaba..
..about this hadith..
..about this hadith..
..Aisha radiallahu anha..
..had a long discussion..
..with the Sahaba..
..she was a great scholar..
..she was a very smart lady..
..radiallahu anha..
..so here the first matter..
..in this hadith..
..the hadith does not forbid..
..weeping..
..or shedding tears..
..so it's halal..
..to weep..
..or shed tears..
..when we lose..
..a family member..
..when one of our family members..
..passes away..
..it's okay..
..to have tears..
..right..
..rather..
..it's..
..it's forbidding niyaha..
..or raising voice..
..when weeping..
..or complaining about the..
..Qadar of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala..
..there are people..
..who complain about the..
..Qadar of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala..
..for example..
..when they lose..
..a young person..
..when they lose someone..
..who is old..
..and then they say..
..halas..
..he's tired..
..he was sick..
..he's an old man..
..old woman..
..they accept..
..the death of this person..
..they accept it..
..it will be easier on them..
..right..
..but someone..
..for example..
..if a family loses..
..a young person..
..it could be a shock..
..right..
..but we're not allowed..
..as Muslims..
..to complain about..
..the Qadar of Allah..
..subhanahu wa ta'ala..
..Allah decreed..
..that this person..
..would pass away..
..at this time..
..when he's 20 or 15 years old..
..or 25 years..
..it's a very sad moment..
..it's a very..
..very sad occasion..
..but..
..but we as Muslims..
..we need to accept..
..the Qadar of Allah..
..subhanahu wa ta'ala..
..the Hadith..
..in Mutafaq Ali..
..inna Allaha..
..la yu'adhibu bidam'i al-'ayn..
..wala bihuzni al-qalb..
..inna Allaha la yu'adhibu bidam'i al-'ayn..
..wala bihuzni al-qalb..
..wa lakin yu'adhibu bihaza..
..Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam..
..wa ashara ila lisanihi..
..al-Habib Alayhi Salatu Wasallam..
..ashara ila lisanihi..
..Hadith Mutafaq Ali..
..he said..
..Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala..
..does not punish people..
..for shedding tears..
..or feeling sad..
..rather he takes people to account..
..because of what they say..
..and he pointed to his tongue..
..he pointed to his tongue..
..Alayhi Salatu Wasallam..
..now the second matter..
..about this Hadith..
..the second matter..
..is that..
..there was a disagreement..
..between the Sahaba..
..about the meaning..
..of this Hadith..
..Aisha..
..rejected this Hadith..
..I have to explain here..
..what does it mean..
..what does this statement mean..
..to say Aisha radiallahu anha..
..rejected this Hadith..
..first of all..
..I would say..
..that Aisha radiallahu anha..
..will never disobey..
..the messenger of Allah..
..in matters of the deen..
..she will never do that..
..number one..
..she does not intend..
..to reject a Sunnah..
..or a piece of knowledge..
..that is part of Wahi..
..she will not do it on purpose..
..number three..
..this Hadith was shared with her..
..after the death of our prophet..
..Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam..
..this is important..
..why..
..because if this Hadith..
..was shared with her..
..during the life of the prophet..
..Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam..
..the matter would be easier..
..she will go to the prophet..
..and verify..
..the Hadith..
..did you say this..
..and then if he said yes..
..he will..
..she will ask him..
..about interpretation..
..or explanation..
..and he will explain to her..
..the meaning of the Hadith..
..but the Hadith..
..she knew about it..
..after the death of our prophet..
..Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam..
..that's why..
..in one halaqa..
..one of our halaqas..
..we said..
..there are great Sahabis..
..who missed some knowledge..
..knowledge..
..which was with..
..some Sahabis..
..but some other Sahabis..
..they were great Sahabis..
..they were Mujtahideen..
..didn't have this knowledge..
..but it was found..
..with other Sahabis..
..that's why we said..
..we should not..
..we should stay away..
..from blind following..
..there is no Imam..
..who is perfect..
..there is no Alim..
..who is infallible..
..there is no leader..
..of a school of thought..
..who is perfect..
..to represent..
..there is no person..
..one person..
..single person..
..or one single school of thought..
..which represents..
..Islam..
..Islam is not..
..this Madhab..
..or this Madhab..
..or this person..
..or this Alim..
..Islam is the Qur'an..
..and the Sunnah..
..of our Messenger..
..Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam..
..we love the Sahaba..
..we respect their knowledge..
..and their contribution..
..we love the Imams..
..we respect them..
..but we have to stay away..
..from blind following..
..we have to have..
..our own filters..
..but filters of course..
..in a reasonable way..
..you don't use..
..your personal interpretation..
..to reject..
..the opinion of another scholar..
..no..
..you have the right..
..to question one..
..one Fatwa..
..and then..
..seek answers..
..with other Ulama..
..with other Madhab..
..if you have doubt about..
..a certain Fatwa..
..right..
..until you find the truth..
..until you find the truth..
..but don't say..
..I am..
..so this Madhab..
..I grew up in this Madhab..
..this is my religion..
..your religion is not..
..Maliki Madhab..
..or Shafi'i Madhab..
..your religion is Islam..
..these are schools of thought..
..we benefit from them..
..these Imams..
..made a great contribution..
..towards Islam..
..we appreciate their efforts..
..we have to have this balance..
..right..
..between love and respect..
..and between..
..staying away from..
..so here we have an example..
..of Aisha..
..because she was smart..
..and she had a reason..
..she was very smart..
..she was a great scholar..
..she had a good reason to..
..question this Hadith..
..she was not trying to reject..
..the Sunnah of Rasulullah SAW..
..she thought..
..that these Sahabis..
..have misunderstood..
..the message of the Prophet..
..that is her argument..
..these Sahabis..
..have misunderstood..
..the message of the Prophet..
..SAW..
..or they made a mistake..
..so she is not..
..she was not attributing the mistake..
..to Rasulullah SAW..
..attributing the mistake to..
..the understanding..
..of other Sahabis..
..she was a Sahabi like them..
..she lived with Rasulullah SAW..
..she had access to knowledge..
..and Wahi..
..she lived with him..
..right..
..she had the right..
..and she was a great scholar..
..she had the right to have..
..this kind of discussion..
..with..
..with Abu Bakr..
..and Umar..
..and all the Sahabis..
..so..
..what's..
..what was her opinion..
..she declared..
..that this Hadith..
..is in conflict..
..with what Allah said..
..so what..
..how she understood the Hadith..
..the person will be punished..
..will be punished in the grave..
..because of the wailing..
..of his family members..
..now the Quran says..
..these people are wailing..
..why would this deceased..
..person be punished..
..for the actions and the deeds..
..of his family members..
..it's their problem..
..it's not his problem..
..that was..
..it makes sense..
..it makes very sense..
..but it's all about the interpretation..
..of the Hadith..
..the interpretation of the Hadith..
..so she said..
..this is very clear..
..in Surah Al-An'am..
..Ayah 164..
..and other Ayat..
..same meaning..
..no soul burdened with sin..
..will bear the burden of another..
..meaning you will never..
..Allah will not make you..
..to carry the sins of someone else..
..you don't pay for the mistakes..
..of someone else..
..right..
..that was her understanding..
..so she said..
..this Hadith..
..is in conflict..
..with this Ayah..
..I cannot accept this Hadith..
..you must have made a mistake..
..maybe you misunderstood..
..the Hadith of Rasulullah SAW..
..so because of her objection..
..and the discussion that took place..
..between the Sahaba..
..the Muslim scholars had..
..different opinions about this Hadith..
..the majority of Muslim scholars..
..accepted this Hadith..
..and he said..
..because it is authentic..
..the problem is not in the Hadith..
..the Hadith is there..
..authentic..
..Bukhari and Muslim..
..it is authentic..
..there is no doubt about it..
..they said the Hadith..
..has a different interpretation..
..that is in line with the Ayah..
..so the first interpretation..
..that is there..
..said the word..
..does not mean..
..he will be punished..
..he will be punished..
..unfortunately..
..this is what you find in some..
..sources..
..some translated Hadith..
..he will be punished..
..I don't believe..
..this is the most correct..
..translation or interpretation..
..of this Hadith..
..he said it means that..
..he will feel the pain..
..feeling the pain..
..is not a punishment..
..he will feel the pain..
..but it is related to our subject..
..what I am trying to say here..
..I am trying to say that..
..the dead person..
..has some sort of consciousness..
..he is aware of..
..what is going on around him..
..this is important for us..
..important for us..
..how to behave..
..at the time of death..
..when we lose a person..
..a family member..
..how do we behave..
..we need to keep in mind..
..that the dead person..
..is aware..
..of what is going around him..
..and this is the most correct..
..interpretation..
..that he will feel pain..
..he will feel upset..
..he doesn't like the fact..
..that his family members..
..are raising their voices..
..while crying..
..and screaming..
..about his death..
..so he is upset..
..he is not being punished..
..second interpretation..
..it makes sense..
..but I believe the first one..
..is more correct..
..the second one..
..they said the hadith talks about..
..punishment..
..for those who make a wasiya..
..yes..
..this is something that happened..
..and that happens in some societies..
..and some communities..
..and they make a wasiya..
..and they hire someone..
..they give her money..
..to come to the janaza..
..and start wailing..
..and say good things..
..about the person..
..who passed away..
..and his achievement..
..he was a leader..
..he was wealthy..
..he used to help the poor..
..he paid them money..
..so this is a jahili practice..
..and it is found in some communities..
..so they said..
..maybe this person..
..because he made a wasiya..
..he told his family members..
..if I die..
..hire someone..
..give her money..
..and let her do these things..
..right..
..this is haram..
..it's a major sin..
..right..
..and it occurred..
..as I said..
..and it's still happening..
..in some societies..
..so..
..but..
..this interpretation means..
..that some of them..
..will happen to them..
..those who make a wasiya..
..and they ask their family members..
..to behave this way..
..but the hadith is talking about..
..it's a general statement..
..إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ ..so it's
talking about..
..everyone who passed away..
..it's a general statement..
..so most likely..
..والله تعالى أعلم..
..the first one..
..the first interpretation..
..makes..
..makes sense..
..and it is a proof..
..that the dead person..
..could be aware..
..about what's going on..
..around him..
..and there will be no conflict..
..between the ayah..
..and the hadith..
..because he's not being punished..
..والله تعالى أعلم..
..now..
..so these are the supporting proofs..
..and the second supporting proof is..
..the messenger of Allah..
..addressing..
..so it's almost 9 o'clock..
..I'm gonna quickly..
..go through these stories..
..after the battle of Badr..
..Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم..
..he stayed for..
..three days..
..and after three days..
..he decided to bury..
..the bodies..
..of those..
..Kuffar..
..Kuffar..
..non-Muslims who were killed..
..the disbelievers who were killed..
..in the battle of Badr..
..the Meccans..
..who were killed in the battle of Badr..
..but before burying them..
..he stood up in front of them..
..in front of them..
..and he started calling them..
..O Abu Jahl..
..O Umayyah ibn Khalaf..
..O Utbah ibn Rabi'ah..
..O Shaybah ibn Rabi'ah..
..these are names of the leaders..
..of the Meccans..
..who were killed in the battle of Badr..
..have you not found..
..what you had been promised..
..to be correct?
..he said..
..as for me..
..عليه الصلاة والسلام..
..he was talking to them..
..they were dead..
..after three days..
..he said..
..as for me..
..I found the promises of my Lord..
..to be perfectly correct..
..and then Umar heard..
..what Rasulullah SAW said..
..O Rasulullah..
..do they listen to you?
..you are talking to people..
..who passed away..
..who are dead..
..do they respond to you?
..and Rasulullah SAW said..
..وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ..
..مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ..
..he agreed upon..
..مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ مِنْهُمْ..
..وَلَكِنْ لَا يُجِيبُونَ..
..to Umar Ibn Khattab..
..who asked him..
..he said..
..they are..
..by him in whose hand is my soul..
..I'm making an oath by Allah SWT..
..you do not hear what I say..
..better than they do..
..but they cannot reply..
..so they are able to hear..
..the statement..
..they were able to hear..
..the statement of Rasulullah SAW..
..these people died three days ago..
..they were killed..
..in the battle of Badr..
..they were able to hear..
..and listen to what Rasulullah SAW said..
..but Rasulullah SAW he said..
..they cannot reply..
..because now they belong to..
..Hayat Al-Barzakh..
..they live in Al-Barzakh now..
..they cannot come back to our life..
..and have a discussion with us..
..right..
..so this is a second supporting proof..
..about the consciousness and the awareness..
..of these dead people..
..O Allah SWT..
..third one..
..so he said..
..when the servant is placed in his grave..
..and his companions leave him..
..literally he hears..
..the noise of their footsteps..
..so after we leave the loved one..
..in the grave..
..he is able to hear..
..the noise of the footsteps..
..of people who are around him..
..two angels come to him..
..and make him sit..
..and say to him..
..and they start asking the questions..
..that we mentioned before..
..right..
..that's why Rasulullah SAW said..
..what did he say..
..he said..
..what did he say..
..he said..
..ask Allah to forgive your brother..
..and ask Allah..
..to keep him firm..
..to keep him firm..
..because he will be asked now..
..at that moment..
..so..
..at that moment..
..this person is dealing with the angels..
..he's talking to them..
..but he's able also to hear the voice..
..or the noise of the footsteps..
..of the people who are around..
..in the cemetery..
..that's why my nasihah..
..to the brothers and sisters..
..especially those who..
..go and participate in the..
..of family members..
..most of the time..
..they will pull you..
..people will pull you..
..and tell you..
..line up here..
..and wait for the people..
..to make ta'zih..
..and you forget about your..
..family member..
..who is in the grave..
..and you're supposed to make du'a for
him..
..at least..
..some family members..
..they need to pay attention..
..all the time to this fact..
..this concept..
..that this person..
..needs our du'a..
..at that moment..
..so you leave these people..
..doing the ta'zih..
..which is not like..
..ta'zih can be done in any way..
..but this is culture..
..this is a cultural practice..
..ta'zih yes..
..in general it is recommended..
..but it doesn't have to be..
..with this line up..
..it's a cultural practice..
..some people want to do it..
..that's fine..
..it's a sort of ta'zih..
..but at least some family members..
..and friends..
..should go to the grave..
..when people are leaving..
..and spend around..
..five..
..ten minutes..
..making du'a..
..for your friend..
..or your family member..
..because he needs your du'a..
..or she needs your du'a..
..at that time..
..this is what Rasulullah SAW said..
..he said..
..same..
..the message is both..
..for both men and women..
..right..
..ask Allah SWT..
..to forgive them..
..and keep them firm..
..because they are being..
..asked right now..
..but this is again..
..a proof..
..that this..
..as I said..
..physically is not possible..
..for the person to sit down..
..in the grave..
..physically is not..
..but because they live..
..in a different reality..
..in a different dimension..
..that they will be able..
..to sit down..
..in a way that..
..we don't know how..
..we don't know the nature..
..of this..
..discussion..
..but he will be talking..
..to the mala'ika..
..and..
..answering them..
..another fourth..
..supporting proof..
..about this consciousness..
..or awareness..
..of this person..
..who is dying..
..Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri..
..said in a hadith in Bukhari..
..that the messenger of Allah..
..said..
..if the funeral is put..
..the funeral..
..and the men..
..carry it..
..on their necks..
..so if it is good..
..he said..
..give it to me..
..in a hadith..
..give it to me..
..give it to me..
..who is talking..
..who is saying..
..give it to me..
..the dead..
..give it to me..
..give it to me..
..because he is good..
..he saw the good news..
..he saw the good news..
..he saw the angels..
..their faces are good..
..so, he is happy now..
..give it to me..
..give it to me..
..and if it is not good..
..she said..
..oh, woe to her..
..where are you going with it..
..he hears her voice..
..everything..
..so..
..the messenger of Allah said..
..everything in this world..
..he hears the dead voice..
..when he says..
..give it to me..
..or he says..
..oh, woe to her..
..where are you going with it..
..except the person..
..and if he hears him..
..he will fall..
..he will fall..
..if we hear..
..if Allah SWT..
..enable us to hear..
..the dead voice..
..while he is screaming..
..we will fall..
..we will be drowned..
..we will not be able to bear it..
..the prophet said..
..he will fall..
..this is in Bukhari..
..he said..
..when the funeral is ready..
..and the men carry it..
..on their shoulders..
..so the men are carrying..
..the funeral..
..on their shoulders..
..taking it to the grave..
..right..
..or bringing it to..
..maybe to the prayer..
..or the grave..
..Allah knows..
..if the deceased..
..the deceased..
..was a righteous man..
..or a righteous woman..
..it will say..
..present me..
..and take me forward..
..because this person is excited..
..is happy..
..when he was dying..
..he saw this Malaika..
..with white faces..
..he got the news..
..good news now..
..so he is saying..
..take me forward..
..take me forward..
..because he wants to go to the grave..
..he wants to meet the Malaika..
..and talk to them..
..and get..
..get more of his good news..
..and then if he..
..Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam..
..he said..
..if he was not righteous..
..he was a sinful person..
..or a Kafir..
..he would say..
..woe to me..
..where are you taking me..
..so this person will be screaming..
..but we don't hear..
..their screaming..
..Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said..
..its voice is heard..
..by everything..
..except man..
..except we..
..humans..
..we don't hear..
..their screaming..
..we don't hear..
..we don't hear it..
..and he said..
..if he heard it..
..if man..
..the child of Adam..
..heard it..
..he would fall unconscious..
..you will lose consciousness..
..we will not have a normal life..
..if we..
..if we hear this..
..this sound..
..the sound of this person..
..who is saying..
..he is screaming..
..because he knows his fate..
..he knows..
..what..
..what is waiting for him..
..ahead..
..now there is Mas'ala..
..ah..
..so we'll talk about this..
..at the end insha'Allah..
..ah..
..there is one Mas'ala..
..do the souls meet..
..in Al-Barzakh..
..do they have interaction..
..do they talk to each other..
..so we have a Hadith..
..we have a Hadith..
..and this Hadith..
..is in Sunan An-Nasa'i..
..and some other sources..
..some Ulama they said it's Sahih..
..like it was classified as Sahih..
..by Shaykh Al-Albani..
..and it was approved..
..before Al-Albani..
..Shaykh Ibn Al-Qayyim..
..Shaykh Islam Al-Taymiyyah..
..these are classical scholars..
..who believe..
..that this Hadith..
..are authentic..
..I'll tell you about..
..one part of this Hadith..
..to prove that the souls..
..will talk to each other..
..and they will meet with each other..
..so..
..the first part of the Hadith..
..about the Mala'ika..
..taking the soul..
..placing it in the shroud..
..and then the soul..
..will meet..
..Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam..
..this is the second part..
..of the Hadith..
..he said that we don't..
..we don't..
..we don't have this part..
..in the Hadith..
..of Al-Bara'a Ibn Azim..
..you know the Hadith..
..the long Hadith that I..
..shared it with you today..
..we don't have this part..
..in this Hadith..
..so this is a different Hadith..
..from Abu Huraira R.A..
..he said..
..then the souls of the believers..
..come to him..
..the souls of the believers..
..come to this new soul..
..which recently passed away..
..left the world of this life..
..and they are more happy..
..to meet him or meet her..
..souls will meet with each other..
..than when one of you..
..is happy to meet..
..a loved one..
..when they come back..
..loved ones when they come back..
..from a trip..
..very happy, right?
..so he said these souls..
..are more happy..
..than when..
..one of us..
..meets his friends..
..or family members..
..after they come back..
..and then they ask him..
..or ask her..
..what happened to so and so..
..they start asking about..
..friends and family members..
..what happened to so and so..
..and then some of them..
..some of the souls..
..will tell the other souls..
..let him take some rest..
..for he was in the hardship..
..of this world..
..let him take some rest..
..because he is coming..
..from the hardship..
..of this world..
..this worldly life..
..and then when he says..
..he was..
..the soul..
..the new soul..
..who passed away..
..he would ask about one person..
..who was sinful..
..or kafir..
..or allahu alam..
..did he not come here..
..and they say..
..he was taken..
..to the pit of *..
..about one specific soul..
..he was taken to the pit of *..
..this is some sort of discussion..
..that took place..
..that will take place..
..between..
..the different souls..
..wallahu ta'ala..
..the pit of *..
..does not mean..
..wallahu alam..
..allahu alam..
..Allah knows better..
..is not hellfire..
..is the azab..
..the punishment..
..that takes place..
..during the time of al-barzakh..
..al-barzakh..
..because..
..during al-barzakh..
..some souls..
..will enjoy their time..
..and they will feel the..
..they will smell..
..the scent of jannah..
..they will feel the calmness..
..and the serenity..
..of jannah..
..and they will receive..
..good news..
..and they will enjoy..
..their time in barzakh..
..some other souls..
..will be suffering..
..and they will be punished..
..and these souls..
..who are punished..
..they don't..
..they will not have time..
..to have this kind of discussion..
..this is the decision..
..of this ulema..
..they said they will be busy..
..with their punishment..
..and suffering..
..but these are souls..
..of the believers..
..who are enjoying..
..their time..
..they will have..
..they have the luxury..
..of having this kind..
..of discussion..
..with other souls..
..wallahu ta'ala alam..
..and this hadith..
..as I said..
..there are some hadith..
..confirm the same meaning..
..and..
..and they said..
..even family and friends..
..will meet..
..or the souls of family..
..and friends will meet..
..wallahu ta'ala..
..and confirmation..
..of some highly qualified..
..scholars..
..like shaykh islam..
..abdul qayyim..
..and some other scholars..
..now..
..this is..
..what modern research..
..is saying..
..about..
..death..
..this article..
..if you wanna read it..
..feel free to read it..
..freedom of information..
..but I have to make some..
..disclaimers..
..right..
..we don't take aqeedah..
..from this kind of..
..articles..
..right..
..but there is something..
..interesting..
..and they started talking..
..this research..
..was made..
..recently..
..they started talking..
..and doing research..
..about this subject..
..before..
..2022..
..but they started talking..
..about the results..
..of this research..
..in 2022..
..but this article..
..was shared in April 2nd..
..2024..
..I'll tell you..
..this is the story..
..of a doctor..
..her name is..
..or his name..
..I'm not sure if he's a man..
..or a woman..
..anyway..
..if you read this article..
..you'll find the name..
..of this..
..it sounds like..
..an Asian name..
..Dr..
..Borjigin..
..Borjigin..
..from University of Michigan..
..and she works..
..or he works..
..in the neuro intensive..
..care unit..
..and..
..she..
..was talking about..
..or he was..
..this person..
..this doctor..
..was talking about..
..his or her experience..
..the full name is..
..Jimu..
..Jimu Borjigin..
..I'm not sure..
..but I'm sorry..
..if he's a man or a woman..
..oh..
..actually..
..it's a woman..
..she investigated..
..the case of patient..
..one..
..so maybe there is..
..patient two..
..but I didn't read..
..the article..
..what I'm interested in..
..one part of this article..
..so..
..this patient..
..died..
..and..
..this..
..this doctor..
..was trying to..
..experiment..
..to..
..try to see..
..and discover..
..what happens..
..during the..
..the times..
..when a person is..
..leaving this world..
..when the person is dying..
..so she was in..
..life support..
..she was in life support..
..she was having life support..
..and then the..
..this doctor decided to..
..remove the life support..
..so the moment she..
..this doctor removed..
..the life support from..
..equipment from this woman..
..patient one..
..she died..
..right..
..so at that moment..
..she had some..
..equipment..
..to study..
..the reaction..
..of..
..her brain..
..what happens in her brain..
..during the time of death..
..and he said..
..in the moment after..
..patient one..
..was taken off..
..oxygen..
..there was a surge..
..of activity..
..in her dying brain..
..surge of activity..
..this is what surprised..
..these doctors and scientists..
..that's why they are saying here..
..there is something happening..
..in the brain..
..that doesn't make sense..
..remember the conventional..
..definition of death..
..that everything will stop..
..no activity..
..this doctor..
..discovered something else..
..there is a surge of activity..
..in her dying brain..
..areas that had been..
..nearly silent..
..while she was..
..on life support..
..suddenly thrummed..
..with high frequency..
..electrical signals..
..called gamma waves..
..in particular..
..the parts of the brain..
..that scientists consider..
..a hot zone..
..for consciousness..
..became dramatically alive..
..so our brain..
..became very active..
..this doctor was not expecting this..
..this person is dying..
..in one..
..section the signals..
..remained detectable..
..for more than 6 minutes..
..in another they were..
..11 to 12 times..
..higher..
..than they had been before patient..
..once..
..patient once..
..ventilator was removed..
..as she died..
..patient once..
..brain was functioning..
..in a kind of..
..hyper drive..
..so the level of activity..
..of the brain went higher..
..and higher..
..and higher..
..and this doctor was..
..amazed..
..he said..
..this is not..
..supposed to..
..happen..
..so..
..this..
..think about the first ayah..
..that I shared with you..
حتى إذا جاء..
..أحدهم الموت قال..
..رب يرجعون..
..at the moment of death..
..why..
..why he is asking..
..asking Allah SWT..
..to bring him back to life..
..because he wanted to do something good..
..he wanted to give more sadaqah..
..maybe start praying..
..if he was not praying..
..maybe rectify his relationship..
..with his family members..
..and parents maybe..
..or friends..
..and so on and so forth..
..so Allah is telling us in surah..
..in ayah..
..99..
..and 100..
..in surah Al-Mu'minoon..
..that this person is..
..maybe he is..
..thinking about his life at that time..
..that's why he made this request..
..ya Allah..
..allow me to go back to this life..
..والله تعالى أعلم..
..now this article if you read it..
..these doctors..
..and scientists..
..will link this activity..
..with what is called..
..MDE..
..if you wanna read about them..
..this is an article..
..that is written by a Muslim professor..
..it's called professor Shahul Hamid..
..I guess from India..
..it's a good article..
..very reasonable..
..very knowledgeable..
..and he talks about..
..the near death experiences..
..of Muslims..
..from an Islamic perspective..
..basically they are dreams..
..they are dreams..
..you cannot call them..
..near death experiences..
..because these people did not die..
..did not go to the other world..
..and came back..
..it's not possible..
..from the perspective of our Aqeedah..
..our Islamic faith..
..there is no one..
..who will go to the..
..Hayat Al Barzakhiyah..
..the Barzakh life..
..and will come back..
..this is not possible..
..right..
..so..
..these people who are dying..
..because they are in a different..
..psychological..
..state..
..some of them..
..could be experiencing some pain..
..thinking about their family members..
..when they..
..they..
..sleep..
..they will see some dreams..
..when they go into a state of sleep..
..they will see some dreams..
..this is my understanding..
..okay..
..if you have a feedback..
..let me know about it..
..but this is my understanding..
..I have to share with you..
..the conclusion that I reached..
..based on..
..these articles..
..this research..
..and I was..
..when I was..
..studying in Medina..
..there is someone..
..a Muslim..
..professor..
..who..
..you know..
..who told me..
..told us I was there..
..when he was telling us..
..we were a group of people..
..I met him in Medina..
..when he was a student there..
..and he told us about his experience..
..I'll finish with this maybe..
..bear with me..
..because this program is..
..only one halaqa..
..next Friday we'll have a different..
..subject inshallah..
..we're not going to talk about this subject
next week..
..this person lived in..
..the 90s..
..in a country where..
..there was civil war..
..so some armed groups..
..were fighting against..
..the government..
..there was a civil war..
..and this professor..
..was a member of a Muslim..
..or Islamic movement..
..which was against..
..this violence, right..
..so he was..
..as a professor..
..of Islamic studies..
..was talking against..
..speaking against this..
..this kind of violence..
..right..
..so one time..
..he was in his house..
..meeting with another brother..
..another brother came to his house..
..he told us this story..
..I took it from him..
..right..
..it's not someone else..
..who told me about it..
..but it's a very interesting story..
..and this person of course..
..Allah SWT gave him a long life..
..but I'll tell you what happened..
..so he was meeting..
..with a man who..
..a young man..
..who maybe..
..he was a member of the same..
..Islamic movement..
..or group..
..and they were meeting in the house..
..in his house..
..so members of..
..this group..
..who..
..practice violence..
..and they're violent..
..and they..
..they decided to..
..assassinate or kill..
..eliminate anyone..
..who disagree with them..
..they came to assassinate..
..to kill this person..
..this professor..
..so they came with guns..
..and then they..
..it's a true story..
..came in front of his house..
..and they pretended..
..that there are some..
..people who need ruqya..
..they need ruqya shar'iya..
..so they need the sheikh..
..or this professor..
..to come out..
..and tell them about..
..you know..
..their condition..
..they need ruqya shar'iya..
..they want to talk to him..
..so someone..
..went inside..
..maybe a family member..
..and said these people..
..are outside..
..they need your help..
..they are asking about..
..ruqya shar'iya..
..but they came to kill him..
..so when he started talking..
..when he went out..
..and he started talking to him..
..they shot him..
..they shot him two twice..
..in his belly..
..and he went down..
..the person..
..who was..
..inside his house..
..who came to meet him..
..went out..
..and he saw this scene..
..and he said..
..fear Allah..
..what are you doing..
..they shot him again..
..they shot the second one..
..so the second one died..
..was killed..
..the second one..
..the other person..
..they didn't mean to kill..
..the other person..
..this is the Qadar of Allah..
..but the professor..
..did not die right away..
..the ambulance came..
..and police came..
..and they took him to the hospital..
..and in the hospital..
..the doctors were..
..you know..
..treating him..
..and everything..
..and it was a very difficult..
..situation..
..he was about to die..
..he told us..
..at a certain..
..after one week..
..or two weeks..
..I'm not sure..
..about his details..
..but he said..
..after a period of time..
..there was an imam..
..who came to visit this person..
..this professor..
..in the hospital..
..and he stood up..
..he found him sleeping..
..this professor paid attention to him..
..and then because he was extremely tired..
..he went to..
..sleep again..
..he slept again..
..so he lost consciousness..
..and he was sleeping..
..and this imam decided to make..
..du'a for this person..
..so he's standing..
..he was standing up..
..and making du'a for this person..
..who was sick and..
..about to die..
..he told us..
..that he saw a dream..
..this is what..
..many people call..
..near death experience..
..he saw a dream during that moment..
..when that imam..
..was making du'a for him..
..the imam is still making du'a..
..what was the dream?
..he said..
..I saw..
..like..
..that is his understanding..
..but what he saw..
..is his soul..
..leaving his body..
..but what he saw..
..a bird..
..he said the bird was flying..
..flying..
..flying..
..leaving my body..
..and flying..
..flying..
..until it came to a big wall..
..and this wall had..
..windows..
..so this bird..
..was about..
..came to one window..
..it was about to leave..
..through the window..
..and then the bird decided..
..to come back..
..to come back to his soul..
..to his body..
..his interpretation is..
..that was his soul..
..he was about to die..
..and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala..
..of course decreed..
..for him..
..a longer life..
..so then he woke up..
..again..
..after seeing the dream..
..and he saw the imam..
..still making du'a for him..
..he thanked him..
..I don't know if he shared..
..the dream with the imam..
..I'm not sure..
..he didn't..
..I don't remember these details..
..but this is what..
..clearly what people see..
..and call..
..these days..
..everyone has his own experience..
..but they call it..
..near death experience..
..but it was a dream..
..and this person..
..of course..
..alhamdulillah..
..Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala cured him..
..left the hospital..
..and he became later on..
..a minister..
..working with the government..
..and everything..
..until now he's still alive..
..he's still alive..
..until now he's still alive..
..but my point is..
..this is the conclusion..
..of this professor here..
..Muslim professor..
..that most of these..
..or these near death experiences..
..are dreams..
..and that's it..
..but this..
..professor at the..
..University of Michigan..
..if you read the article..
..in the Guardian..
..they will start..
..they will try..
..to establish a link..
..between..
..the experience of patient one..
..you know what I told you about..
..the activity of her brain..
..and between near death experiences..
..I don't believe in that..
..I disagree with them..
..because this..
..doctors don't have access..
..to our knowledge..
..they don't know about this..
..Ahadith..
..they don't know about this..
..Ayat..
..they don't know about this..
..sort of consciousness..
..and awareness..
..that the person..
..who is dying has..
..at the time of death..
..that we..
..we have limited knowledge about it..
..but at least we have some..
..knowledge about it..
..right..
..our knowledge is limited..
..but we have some Ahadith..
..that are authentic..
..and we know what is happening..
..so when we're carrying..
..a dead person..
..either he is saying..
..قدموني قدموني..
..or saying..
..يا ويلها أين تذهبون بها..
..either this person is saying..
..قدموني..
..take me forward..
..take me forward..
..he's excited..
..and he wants to go to the grave..
..or she wants to go to the grave..
..or saying..
..woe to it..
..where are you taking me..
..or where are you taking..
..yeah..
..me..
..so..
..it's a statement..
..that is made by this dead person..
..we don't hear it..
..but it is there..
..and this..
..Inshallah..
..should affect..
..or should..
..help us to have a better understanding..
..about..
..the experience of death..
..and that we should not scream..
..may Allah SWT..
..give us..
..increase our Iman..
..so we don't disobey Allah SWT..
..during these occasions..
..right..
..it's a very difficult moment..
..it's a very difficult moment..
..it's not easy..
..but..
..Inshallah we try to remember..
..this guidance..
..that we learned from the Quran..
..and the Sunnah..
..and behave in the right way..
..during the time of death..
..during the time of death..
..and also increase our Dua..
..for our parents..
..and our loved ones..
..because they need our Dua..
..a Waladun Salihun..
..Yad'uulah..
..this is..
..you know this Hadith..
..you're familiar with this Hadith..
..right..
..Mas'ulullah SAW said..
..nothing will benefit the person..
..who passed away..
..except three things..
..beneficial knowledge..
..that he left behind..
..or Sadaqah Jariyah..
..or a pious child..
..who will make Dua..
..for him or for her..
May Allah SWT bless you..
..may Allah SWT bless your time..
..bless your families..
..bless your Ibadah..
..and Jazakumullah Khair..
..it's 9.26..
..I don't think there is time..
..for questions..
..unless..
..there is a very important question..
..that we can take one or two..
..but..
..usually we finish at 9..
..but it is one session..
..so..
..bear with me..
..Alhamdulillah..
..so..
..maybe we will make it like..
..9.30 sharp..
..right? ..three minutes left..
..I will give you three minutes..
..so..
..9.30 sharp..
..we are going to stop this program..
..Jazakumullah Khair..
..Fadhal..
..feel the
pain?
..does the body feel the pain?
..it's your question?
..so..
..we don't have knowledge about it..
..that's why..
..you know..
..I don't have a proof..
..about this matter..
..the body feels your touch..
..and what you are doing..
..but there is some sort of..
..consciousness and awareness..
..as I said..
..that..
..we have some knowledge about it..
..yet it is limited..
..what we know is..
..he is able to hear..
..based on the hadith..
..that I shared with you..
..what people are saying around him..
..if a family member is wailing..
..crying with a loud sound..
..he feels the pain..
..he is upset..
..this person..
..but..
..if you touch his hand..
..does he feel your touch?
..I don't have proof about it..
..so I cannot say anything about it..
..I cannot say yes or no..
..because I don't have knowledge about it..
..I don't know any hadith..
..that says..
..if you touch him..
..or touch them..
..they will feel your hand..
..or they feel..
..Allah knows best..
..but you treat them with respect..
..this is what we are supposed to do..
..you treat..
..the dead people..
..with respect..
..yes..
..if they build
a structure..
..above the grave..
..does it affect the dead person?
..Allah knows best..
..we are not supposed to do that..
..we are not supposed to build a big..
..structure..
..we are not supposed to write Al-Fatiha..
..or write..
..some ayat from the Quran..
..we are not..
..actually what the MCC is doing now..
..is very good..
..Alhamdulillah..
..all the graves are the same..
..there is only the name..
..and maybe..
..the date of..
..the date of birth..
..and the date of..
..death..
..are not necessary..
..because..
..the ulama..
..gave rukhsah for the name..
..for the grave to be..
..to be recognized..
..because Rasulullah SAW said..
..don't try it..
..don't try it..
..on the graves..
..but there are some ulama..
..they said..
..it is okay..
..to write the name..
..if there is a good purpose..
..behind it..
..and the purpose here..
..is to recognize the grave..
..recognizing the grave is..
..is a good purpose..
..in sharia..
..but..
..does he feel..
..upset..
..does he..
..Allah knows..
..so..
..sisters you don't have question..
..because I need to be fair here..
..you are okay..
..go ahead..
..yeah..
..the mushrikeen..
..those who died..
..this is one interpretation..
..there is a long interpretation..
..about this hadith..
..one of the interpretations..
..he said..
..maybe it was something..
..that is specific to him..
..alayhi salatu wassalam..
..because they are not supposed to listen..
..after three days..
..that is the interpretation..
..of some scholars..
..but there is a big interpretation..
..I don't want to talk about it..
..because there is no time..
..I mean to go into details..
..but yeah..
..I used it as a supportive proof..
..that the dead people might..
..hear..
..what we..
..say to them..
..if we talk to them..
..I said 30..
..it's 31..
..do you want to still ask the question?
..it's okay?
..are you happy?
..okay..
..no..
..if I..
..if he is not asking..
..you will not ask..
..may Allah reward you well..
