The second pillar of Islam is Salah and
normally people translate Salah into prayer I personally
don't think prayer is an appropriate translation of
the Arabic word Salah to pray means to
besiege, to ask for help and In Salah
besides asking for help we praise Allah subhanaw
taala, we glorify him We are gaining guidance
for him.
So I prefer calling Salah as sort of
programming towards righteousness for example If the Imam
after Surah Fatiha, he reads Surah Maidah, chapter
number 5, verse number 90 O you who
believe Most certainly intoxicants and gambling Dedication of
stones, divination of arrows Are an abomination from
Satan's handiwork Abstain from it that you may
prosper So here we are being programmed that
alcohol is prohibited, gambling is prohibited, fortune-telling
is prohibited, idol worship is prohibited We are
being programmed towards righteousness
